Starting point is 00:00:00 The 26 NFL Combine is ready to kick off. And Jake and I are going to dive into some of who we think are going to be the biggest performers of the week. Let's get to it. You are Locked on Colts, your daily Indianapolis Colts podcast. Part of the Locked on Podcast Network, your team every day. Welcome to Locked on Colts, part of the Locked On Podcast Network. Now the number one sports podcast network around. Hello, everyone.
Starting point is 00:00:35 my name is Zach Hickcher, resident film nerd of horseshoe huddle.com and your boots on the ground for this week in Indianapolis as well. I'm joined today by our typical boots on the ground, Jake Arthur from Roundtable Sports. You know him. You love him. Again, the boots on the ground there at Roundtable. Today we are previewing the 2026 NFL combine diving into some players on offense, some players on defense that we think could, one, have huge performances that boosts them of draft boards, but also guys that we want to say. see in these testing environments to see if they hit the threshold that we are looking for. So some guys with question marks as well that need those answers this week. And then we're going to close it out by diving into a couple of the players that we talked to this morning with linebackers, edge rushers, and defense to tackle speaking to media
Starting point is 00:01:23 here at a media availability. So we're going to speak, we're going to talk to Jake about some of those guys who stood out to him, including Lee Hunter, one of my favorite players in the draft. But Jake, let's get into offense. here. You know, when it comes to offense, I picked kind of a traditional pick for who's going to have, like, the biggest week among these players on that side of the ball. You went a little off the beaten path, but you didn't really take a risk, though, because you picked a local kid. You knew what these guys would, you know, our people listening would really be all about this. So you went with a Notre Dame
Starting point is 00:01:56 running back, but not the Notre Dame running back. Tell me all about it. Yeah. So Judarian Price is known, I think widely is probably RB2, like, Notre name as the top two running backs in this draft class. Jeremiah I love, obviously, home run hitter, a big play threat on any given play. Jerry Price is more of the, you could say change of pace back, but in the terms of like he's more of the thunder to Love's Lightning.
Starting point is 00:02:22 But here's the thing. I think his athleticism is slept on a little bit, because I just think his running style is more conducive for the kind of guys, like the one cut Aaron Foster Times, types that we saw over the 2000s and everything. But I think someone like Jonathan Taylor, for example, is someone who really shocked people with his testing in Indy in 2020 because on tape he was productive and everything,
Starting point is 00:02:51 but people see, like he looked slower. Like he was getting some breakaway plays, but he just didn't look fast on film or anything, but the production was there. This is how I feel about price. So he, He's very productive statistically on offense, but the guy has also got three kickoff return touchdowns.
Starting point is 00:03:10 You don't do that by just being a platter. You know what I mean? Like I think his testing scores are going to surprise some people. I don't know if that's probably not going to change much. There's probably teams where he's not the second running back on their board. And maybe that eases their concerns about him a little bit about open field speed or like making guys miss or, you know, beating a defender to the corner, things like that. But I just think he's going to be a lot more explosive than some people are anticipating.
Starting point is 00:03:42 Yeah, no, I think it would be a big week for him and we'll see if he solidifies himself as RB2. And like you said, Notre Dame having the top two running backs in the class. We have seen that before in recent years. I believe like Georgia's had that a couple times it feels like and stuff. Yeah, like they've had a lot of those top guys, but it would be interesting to see there. I went with an offensive lineman because you guys know how I like to operate. But Monroe Freeling, offensive tackle from Georgia, I think he's become a big time riser in recent weeks and recent months.
Starting point is 00:04:11 I had a really great finish to the season with Georgia starting at left tackle for them. And when you see this guy in the open field, he is just a height, weight speed freak. I think he's going to run under five seconds in the 40. I think we're going to see some really bonkers, explosive numbers. And I think he could creep his way into that top 10 pick status with a great. great combine. I think this offensive tackle class in general is just kind of up for grabs and teams reach for offensive tackles. We've seen that in the past. So I think Freeling with a great week could really propel himself way up draft boards and get taken as high as like what, number six
Starting point is 00:04:45 to the Browns. I think that's very, very possible for him. So yeah, I think Monroe Freeling is going to be one of the biggest winners. And you know, if we're talking like relative athletic score RAS or mock draftable, like we're talking, I think he's going to be like a 95th, 99th percent tile. athlete. I think it's going to be a great week for him. And I'm excited to see him in a lot of these drills. But we have two receivers on here, Jake, that you're very high on. But there's always this stipulation with big body receivers that, you know, they might test well explosively. They might run the 40 well. But if we can see some of the agilities, if we can see them in the gauntlet drill, see how they turn, that's always big. But Chris Brasel, wide receiver from Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:05:24 And again, a Notre Dame player here, Jake, I need you to branch out a little bit. Yeah, Malachi field wide receiver from Notre Dame. Two big, big body receivers, explosive downfield threats, but it's a big week for them to see how they do in those gauntlets and if they do the three cones or the short shuttle. Yeah, like you mentioned, you know, when you're
Starting point is 00:05:42 looking at those bigger guys, they're known as being stiff. I've heard the phrase, like, turn like a battleship a lot. Right. And, you know, D.K. Metcalf has made an awesome career, but he's another guy where very good vertical straight line speed, but he's not known for being nimble or having a vast route tree. Alex
Starting point is 00:05:58 Pierce to a degree as well. Yeah, Alex Pierce. Like he's never become a guy with like a very expansive route tree or anything and he doesn't do a lot of stuff short. That's kind of where you're looking to see these guys separate themselves. Malachi Fields for me, when I saw him in person at the senior bowl, really surprised me in the way that he moved, again, because those guys are usually just so rigid. But the way that he was able to turn and bend a little bit and sink those hips, I was
Starting point is 00:06:22 pretty surprised. And again, he's like six four, two, 20, which is just beautiful, perfect size for the receiver position can get downfield wins 50-50 balls like the contested catch is kind of you know that's one of his calling cards there so if you can see this guy wiggle a bit and he's got the loose hips i think that will easily solidify him into the top 50 because that's usually the thing like there's a lot of weight speed receivers and they they've always fall into similar buckets they can't turn they can only go forward a lot of them have inconsistent hands they don't know how to run routes and stuff.
Starting point is 00:07:00 So like a guy already with this profile who's beefier, I think, than those guys at the 220, I think he could make some people fall in love if he jumps well. If he does the agility is really well, really is the thing. So I think people expect him to test well. But if he looks good in the field workout, I think that will vote pretty well for him. Yeah, the gauntled drill will be big,
Starting point is 00:07:21 just seeing how he transitions his head, making those catches and running on that straight line. I think it's one of the most valuable field drills. especially for wide receivers. So we'll see how smooth he looks in that regard. And this all applies to Chris Brasel as well, even though he's, what, 6-5-200. So not as bulky as Malachi Fields.
Starting point is 00:07:38 Skinnier version. Right. You still want to be able to see him run that full route tree, not just be a height, weight, speed, run vertical and do nothing else type guy. You want to see a little bit more there. Two offensive tackles, for me, again, to keep it on the offensive line here,
Starting point is 00:07:51 that I'm curious about for different reasons. One is Blake Miller from Clemson. wrestling background started a lot of games at Clemson. Very good athlete. I think he's going to test very well, but I want to see him hit that benchmark I have for him, kind of the expectation I have for him. If you can hit that, then I feel really good about his projection. And then Austin Barber from Florida as well.
Starting point is 00:08:12 I had some questions on film about his overall athleticism. If he can get me above average or so, you know, upper like 70th percentile or so as an athlete, I can feel pretty good about him. And then another offensive tackle too, just while we're talking to, Demetrius Crownover, who we've talked about a lot. If he can test well with that tight end background and his size, I think we're looking at some good things there. But a couple other guys,
Starting point is 00:08:35 and I don't know if you watch too many of these guys yet, Jake, but I think we're going to have huge weeks here. Brennan Thompson, wide receiver from Mississippi State, ran a 10,400 meter dash in high school as a junior, very, very good speed. Did a lot of good things in Mississippi State. Tailing Green, the quarterback from Arkansas. That's your next Joe Milton.
Starting point is 00:08:53 That's your next, you know, Anthony Richardson, height weight speed. at quarterback and then Oscar Delp, the tight end from Georgia, very rarely used there at Georgia, but when he was used, he played very well. Kind of reminds me of like when George Kittle was in college, he was a blocker, barely caught the ball, and then he tested out of this world. I'm not saying Delp is George Kittle again, but those are the guys you take shots on on like early day three at tight end where it's like, just give me a guy who can block and he's
Starting point is 00:09:20 very athletic. And I can throw in the football in the NFL. So I think an Oscar Delp guy projects much better to the NFL game than what he did at college because Georgia just didn't feature him in that passing game. Yeah, I know with Thompson specifically, I've seen a lot of people kind of shout him out as someone who could threaten the 40 record this week. I don't know how much that translates to the Colts. I mean, it's nice to always look and see if the 40 is being threatened. But Taylor Green, you know, we've seen guys get boosted up quite a bit just based on their sheer athleticism alone. and then Delp became kind of a draft darling throughout the season too because,
Starting point is 00:09:54 hey, this guy can actually do something. He was never really used in the passing game before, but now it looks like he can do a little something. So coming up, guys, we're going to flip this over to the defensive side of the ball and some things that apply way more to the Colts. There's a lot at stake when it comes to the Colts at this one because a lot of guys without perfect size, but they need to really test. Welcome to the five-hour energy flavor draft.
Starting point is 00:10:20 We're looking at every aspect of the draft. let you know which tasty flavors are the best and which might just be sleepers. The board is set. The flavors are ready and only one is going to take the top spot. Five hour energy shots gives you a boost with zero sugar. And the one I'm shooting for is peach mango personally. That is an absolutely dominant flavor profile of me. You get those perfect mixes in there.
Starting point is 00:10:45 It brings the ripe peach flavor on the first sip and then the mango adds tropical depth and sweetness. the drink has a smooth, rounded fruit profile with a slightly richer mouth feel than citrus flavors. I think you always got to throw strawberry watermelon or blue raz into the fray as well. Those are always safe bets. So find your new favorite flavor of five-hour energy shots available now at five-hour energy.com or Amazon. All right, gang, thank you for making Locked on Culture first listen to the day. And thank you for making locked on the number one sports podcast.
Starting point is 00:11:22 network. Remember, we have been telling you guys a lot about the Everydayers Club. It means you're going to get our audio ad free and you're going to get an invite over to our Discord server where the conversation just keeps picking up all the time. Free agent rumors are going around, combine stuff's going around. It is always hopping. It's hard for Zach and I to even keep up with it. But we've really been enjoying speaking with you guys on there. So please hop in and join the conversation today. Well, all right, let's talk about some defensive players that either need a big to kind of solid players or, you know, shed some doubts, I guess, or guys that we just think are just going to flat out blow the roof off of Lucas Oil Stadium this week.
Starting point is 00:12:04 So, Zach, you know, we've got, there was a safety last year who made quite a bit of noise with Nick MN Worry, Super Bowl champion of the Seattle Seahawks, Nick MN Worry. And there's a guy who's kind of got that profile this year. Yeah, he's a little different than MN Worry, where MN Worry, I think, is a little bit more of a height weight speed freak because it's hard to find someone that's as freaky as as Nick Eman Worry, which made that Seattle defense so unique. But Emmanuel McNeil Warren,
Starting point is 00:12:31 the safety from Toledo, I think is a pretty close comparison. And as Alan Pinkett always says in our squad show, it's a copycat league. And when you see what Emin Worry, you see what Kyle Hamilton, Derwin James have really done for their respective teams and how they made those top defenses,
Starting point is 00:12:48 or at least the Ravens went healthier up there with those other two. I think a guy like Emmanuel McNeil Warren, when he tests exceptionally well this week, he's going to be flying up draft boards and everyone's going to be just chomping at the bit to really go after him and get him on their defense. So I think he's going to have a huge week. I think that's what the expectation has been, kind of like where, again, last year in the draft process, people were saying, hey, Nickyman War, he's kind of raw on the field, but the athleticism is going to be great.
Starting point is 00:13:12 But to actually see it in person, it kind of made it different. Even though it didn't boost his stock at all, he still felt around two, shockingly. I think people aren't going to fall for that twice. So when they see McNeil Warren from Toledo just test out of this world, I think that's going to boost him up into round one. And lately, Toledo kind of a DB factory. A little bit.
Starting point is 00:13:34 Max and Hook, Quine and Mitchell. Yeah, I mean, they are just producing these guys. And like, again, we scout the player out the helmet. But sometimes I think with like certain schools when it comes to like certain positions, you can kind of say like, hey, Toledo's got something good there with their development at these defensive back positions.
Starting point is 00:13:51 So Manuel McNeil Warren, I think, is going to be the next line of those Toledo defenders. I think he's going to test out of this world this week. But who do you have on defense here? I know you're going to the trenches with your guy. Yeah, we got to. This is super important for the Colts. And this is a guy who I think is focused on, you know,
Starting point is 00:14:09 proving things and checking boxes and kind of just stacking his wins throughout the soft season. It's Florida defensive tackle Caleb Banks. This is a massive guy. We're talking like six. six, three, 30, but he moves like a guy much smaller than him. So number one, I think he's going to test well just in general off that. But his entire 2025 season was basically marred by a foot injury that just derailed everything,
Starting point is 00:14:33 really ended it before it truly got going. He came into the senior ball and did really, really well, was one of the best defensive linemen of the entire week. Again, I mentioned his enormous size, which shows up at pad level and things like that, which you almost can't get over that when you're that, that dang big, like it's hard to counter that. But he can dip a bit and he's very slippery and he's got good. He's got some quick twitch to him for a guy that size.
Starting point is 00:14:59 So you got to prove, you know, with your testing that, you know, the foot injury hasn't put you too far behind the eight ball. You build off of the senior bowl performance. And shoot, I've seen this guy. If all goes well this offseason, Caleb Banks really shouldn't make it out of the first round. Yeah, we'll definitely. see there. I think a height weight speed guy for sure. We'll see if NFL teams are a little wary of
Starting point is 00:15:21 the production, but he's had a really great offseason and he can really stamp his mark in that first round with a great week this week. Speaking of linebackers, though, like just completing our middle of the defense here from defensive tackles and safety, he's going to linebacker. We've talked a lot about this linebacker class being a very good class, but a class where you're not really finding too many 240 plus guys. You're not finding too many guys who check every single box from length and size. But two players who I think do check all those boxes and are going to test out of this world, Josiah Trotter, the linebacker from Missouri, and Jake Golda, the linebacker from Cincinnati.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Trotter, we've talked about so much the saucies, one of my favorite players in the draft. And Golda, even, we've talked about a good bit too because that's one of your favorite players in the draft. So I think these two guys are going to test unreal this week. Gold Day's starting to get some first round buzz. Trotter, he's got the age, he's got the NFL bloodlines, he's got the athleticism. I know the coverage isn't there yet, but I could still see a world where he goes round one as well. But I think both these players have a chance to really solidify themselves because there's not too many 240 plus linebackers in this draft.
Starting point is 00:16:28 So, like, yes, it's great to get a Jacob Rodriguez later and Aden Fisher later. I think Fisher's actually a little bit bigger. But, you know, like those type of guys a little bit bigger later on in the draft, but getting a guy who's a super athlete plus the size, plus can fit against the run like Gold Day and Trotter, I think is an asset that's hard to find in this draft. So these two guys really could stamp themselves in that top 30, top 40 conversation with a great week. Yeah, I think both these guys definitely fit into the mold of like if this year has a Carson Schwessinger, when it comes with that type of ascension, you know, they're both, their frame, you know, height is a bit different. I think Trotter is only like, what, 6-1, 6-2. 6-3.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Gold A is 6-4. Yeah. And they're both about 240. So on tape, both of them are explosive and they're violent when they go and they attack at the line of scrimmage. If that gets verified with explosive numbers, teams are going to be like, yep, that's all I need to see. The only problem is I think there's a lot of teams that discount the linebacker position a little bit. It's not always considered a premium position. So where there are several linebackers who have a great argument for top 50, we don't know how the league is going to feel about how they rank the linebackers.
Starting point is 00:17:41 I think this is kind of a little bit of an odd year. But those are two guys who definitely, I think, shouldn't get out of the top 40 or 50 with good performances here in Indy. Now, looking at scores you really want to see among a group of guys is in the trenches. Again, you got some edge guys, like guys who really need to perform well to verify that they are what their tape says, like are Mason Thomas, the edge from Oklahoma. I've seen a lot of comparisons to another former Oklahoma edge, Nick Bonito. who cashed in big time with the Broncos.
Starting point is 00:18:14 If that's the comparisons you're drawn, if you're saying you're going to test well, if you're going to be an undersized edge, you really do need to test well. And you could say the same thing for like Romalo height from Texas Tech, who his size is even worse. So like he may have to like be a whole different like position type of situation there. But if these guys test really,
Starting point is 00:18:35 really well, it will give defenses more confidence to use them in a creative way. Yeah. I will drop into coverage a little bit in the NFL, so he's got to show the ability to move in space. I think will be a big thing for him. Another player I have my questions about is a key messador, the edge from Miami.
Starting point is 00:18:51 Aside from being 45 years old, he's also got some medical recheck, he's had to get done. But all joking aside, I want to see if he does the agility, or at least he does some of the field work that shows agility, how he looks in that regard, because he is a bigger player.
Starting point is 00:19:06 He reminds me a lot of Layatsu, Latu, and I think where the concerns have been with Latu is being a finesse rusher that doesn't have a ton of bend, which leads to the lack of finishing. I see a lot of that in Akeem Messador as well. So I want to see if he has a little bit more bend in finesse than Latu had and see if he can get past that. But some couple guys real quick that I think are just going to test out of this world here at the combine, Domani Jackson, the cornerback from Alabama. We said how in the first segment, there was a 10-4-100-meter dash in the state for his state or whatever. Domani Jackson ran 10-25 in high school, which is
Starting point is 00:19:40 tied to state record in Alabama. Very, very good track speed. So I think we could see him break the 40 record, like legit break the 40 record. AJ Hall see the safety from LSU, a guy who showed deep range from a deep safety position at almost 225 pounds, I think is crazy. And then your boy, Kyle Lewis,
Starting point is 00:19:57 I really want to see how he tests. He better test really well because if he doesn't, then we're going to be in a really concerning place with him, like a certain Oregon linebacker last year with your guy. So this is the combine. We have some heartbreaks. we have some buildups. Hopefully Kyle Lewis is not another Jeffrey Bossa,
Starting point is 00:20:14 and he is more of your next one there. But coming up, we also talk to a couple of players. So we're talking about the on-field with these first two segments, but Jake and I, and particularly Jake, spent a lot of time with these players in the media session this morning. So we're going to go through some guys that stood out and some notable aspects of that as well. As the new year gets going,

We previewed who we think are going to be some big time testers in the first two segments and definitely let us know in the comment section below.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Some of your predictions for the week. I know we didn't have a chance to talk about all 300 players that are in attendance, but we talked about a couple there. But Jake, you spent time talking to some linebackers, talking to some defensive linemen down there today, who were a couple guys that really stood out in those videos that you posted here on the Lockdown Colts channel on YouTube earlier today. Yeah, this was a good group of guys who was very, very open and, you know, weren't too reserved, willing to share their thoughts and experiences. I did think one guy who was pretty interesting, I didn't have a ton of,
Starting point is 00:23:40 background on him yet, but Darrell Jackson, Jr., the defensive tackle for Florida State. So he's the nephew of former seminal Dexter Jackson, and he only started playing football, really organized sports at all as a junior in high school. Dane Brugler, when he said junior year of high school, Dane Bruegler was like, well, did you play any other sports growing up? He's like, no. It's like, wow. Okay, so this kid is a late bloomer athletically in general with, again, NFL bloodline.
Starting point is 00:24:07 So when I saw that, I was like, this is another huge dude. He's like 6, 5, 330. He's got very comparable size to Caleb Banks. And he's new to football. Like, that's Chris Ballard right there. Like, he has got to love it. He's a guy. I like to ask guys about leadership, their preparation through the week.
Starting point is 00:24:25 I try to sift through guys who maybe skate by on being the best athlete as they've ever been around, essentially. I like to see who actually works. And I think all these guys really did. I talked to Texas linebacker Anthony Hill, Cincinnati linebacker Jake Golda, Oregon linebacker Bryce Betcher, our guy Texas Tech, nose tackle Lee Hunter, and you talked to Oklahoma linebacker Owen Heineke. But kind of the name of the game here was versatility, especially with Anthony Hill Jr. and Jake Golda.
Starting point is 00:24:58 It's a couple of linebackers who did vast backgrounds and experiences rushing the passer as well as playing off ball linebacker. And they also, you know, not too bad in coverage. either. These are guys who the Colts would be lucky to have available to them at 47. And both really smart guys who I feel like at least said all the right things when it comes to their preparation and leadership and, you know, guys who kind of have experience, you know, with the green dot at times calling the defense. Bryce Betcher, not maybe as much of the versatility. He does do well against the run and the past as well, probably not the, the,
Starting point is 00:25:37 pass rusher that those other guys are but i'm always interested by guys with two sport backgrounds as well he i think he was drafted by the houston astros and baseball so we he came to organ as a two sport star so he's got a great baseball background and teams have been kind of trying to break down those walls back well are you a football guy or a baseball guy and he says he's committed to football so uh betcher is another guy with a pretty interesting background there but personality of the day was Lee Hunter. If you guys haven't yet right after this, go check out the Lee Hunter interview. That's a guy. He reminds me a lot of Grover Stewart, just a big goofy teddy bear type guy with a great personality who it's really easy to root for. Yeah, we love Lee Hunter around here.
Starting point is 00:26:22 I peeped in on a couple of his comments and stuff. Very, very fun personality to go with him being a really fun, exciting player on the field as well. But while Jake was talking with all these big name guys and guys that the Colts might talk to at 47. I did talk to two Oklahoma linebackers, one being Owen Heineke and the other being Kendall Daniels as well, who was a safety converted to linebacker this past year at Oklahoma. Very intriguing stuff. I posted it on my personal YouTube channel. You guys can check those two out there. But speaking of two sport athletes, Owen Heineke has made waves recently because he's a guy who went for a six-year waiver to go back to Oklahoma, but got denied because he played lacrosse his first year at Ohio.
Starting point is 00:27:03 state before transitioning back to playing football over with Oklahoma Sooners. But he went through his path of being a walk-on at Oklahoma, working his way up through special teams and getting his one year as a starter this past year at Oklahoma as well. I thought that was a really intriguing thing. And look, at the end of the day, when you're a day three guy, the special teams are just as invaluable or just as valuable as the starting experience, you know? So when I look at guys like that, I'm like, look, I already know what this guy can do on special teams now, which is what I need on day.
Starting point is 00:27:33 three on day three, I'm not drafting you to be a starter. I'm drafting you to be a special teamer, you know, and he's got that experience. So I like that. And then Kendall, or Kendall Daniels, uh, being a guy who could play,
Starting point is 00:27:44 uh, over the top, played some of that overhanging position, uh, star position that you call it a little bit in college as well. Um, I thought he did some good things. I thought he,
Starting point is 00:27:52 he spoke well about just that adjustment moving to linebacker and, and how he reads the field. So I was really impressed by both the Oklahoma linebackers. Uh, and look, Oklahoma, you get to learn, under one of the best defensive coaches in the college game at Brent Venables,
Starting point is 00:28:07 who had all that success with Clemson as well. So very intrigued by both those guys, especially Heineke, though, on day three. I want to see how they test. Heena key in particular. He's got a lacrosse background. I'm excited to see his footwork. But if those guys check off the boxes testing-wise,
Starting point is 00:28:22 I did like some of their personality and the way they play the game. If you can bring that as a day three player, I think is very valuable. Yeah, without question. When it comes to Daniels, you know, The Colts obviously have Cato June on staff, who's been there, done that. Former safety at Michigan turned Pro Bowl linebacker and has now made a several-year career out of being an assistant coach with the Colts coaching up those linebackers. And Cato, I think, is also a good communicator with the young guys as well because he's been
Starting point is 00:28:52 down there coaching at the senior bowl, a couple, like two out of the last three years now. And there's precedent for the Colts going Jalen Carly's college safety turned linebacker. So I think that one's pretty interesting as well. Yeah, and Heineke was down at the Senior Bowl as well this year. So we got to see him firsthand. So really intriguing player there. But that is all we have for today, guys.
