Starting point is 00:00:01 The Indianapolis Colts close out the 2026 NFL draft doubling up at edge rusher and linebacker. Let's get to it. You are Locked on Colts, your daily Indianapolis Colts podcast. Part of the Locked on podcast network, your team every day. Welcome to Locked on Colts. I'm Zach Hicks, and that is Jake Arthur, our boots on the ground over there at Colts facility and from the inside of his car over there. Today's episode is brought to you by Fanduel. Right now, new customers can bet just $5 and get $250 in bonus bets if their first bet wins.
Starting point is 00:00:43 Head to Fandul.com to get started. Hello, everyone. Thank you for joining us a little bit earlier tonight, luckily, than compared to the last couple nights, breaking down the NFL draft for the Indianapolis Colts. All eight picks have been made. We've eight new faces coming to the Colts, plus many more coming in undrafted free agency. So on today's recap episode, we're going to dive into. the state of the Colts roster to close out the show, but we're going to talk about these six new additions to the team.
Starting point is 00:01:10 And then in the coming days, we'll talk about the undrafted free agent class as well. But Jake, let's start off with rounds four and five. The Colts had three picks in this range. And Chris Ballard said that they felt like they could get some good players in that round four to five range. And some mixed results here. I think we'll go back and forth a little bit on some of these players.
Starting point is 00:01:29 But let's start with the first player they took, guard Jalen Farmer from Kentucky. Now this was, I think, just the first fourth round pick every year has to go to Tony Spirano Jr. It's just what they've devoted to in the locker room is like, Tony, you get your guy in round four. So Jalen Farmer, a player, I had a fifth round grade on in the Indy draft guide. I love the power. I love the pop in his hands.
Starting point is 00:01:53 A little inconsistent in the past game, but look, if you're going to give anybody to Tony Sparano Jr., give him a powerful big guard that's really athletic, I love. I'm fine with this selection. Like if you're going to give him anybody, give him this type of guy, I have no complaints, even though the Colts over drafted him by my account, give this to Tony any day of the week. Yeah, and when a team and specifically like a position coach on the team has conviction about a player, I'm fine with the reach because it means they have a specific plan.
Starting point is 00:02:24 If you guys saw the little sneak peek that the Colts posted the other day on socials where Coach Sparano said, give them to me and I'll make it work. we wound up being about Jalen Farmer is who they were talking about. So, yeah, this is pretty intriguing. I think this is a more significant move than what it looks like on paper as a fourth rounder. They're going to try them inside first, and then when training camp comes, pepper them into the swing tackle mix a little bit. But at the very least, this guy is going to be in the next wave of players that comes in if someone gets hurt.
Starting point is 00:03:01 dare I say, could he compete to be the right guard? I think they really like Matt Gonzalez, but they seem to really like this guy too. It seems like to me, unless he bombs his floor this year, he might be the swing tackle. Yeah. So do they specifically mention tackle?
Starting point is 00:03:19 Because I know Ballard said he's got the upside to play multiple positions. And the way I took that was, hey, buddy, try to learn how to snap a little bit because maybe backup center could be in your future. Yeah, so when Chris initially was talking about him, he said he could be swing tackle a little bit. And then I asked him a follow up to that. I was like, well, do you guys see him as guard? Like could he compete inside or is the plan for him to be the swing tackle?
Starting point is 00:03:46 And he said when they get the guys in here and they do, you know, OTAs and mini camps and stuff, they're going to start him inside. And then when training camp gets here and they have more time to work with them and they can do more stuff, they'll probably give them some reps at tackle as well. just to see how it looks. Because he's just got like the tweener size to be able to play inside or out. Yeah. And I will say this. Yeah. I will say this.
Starting point is 00:04:09 I just like having six linemen that you can trust instead of only five. So whatever it's going to be, they can get five guys that they like on the field, plus have a six guy that can come in if there's an injury. So I'm not complaining about offensive line. I said take more offensive linemen. Honestly, my only complaint here is they only took one offensive lineman. I would have liked a second one here on day three. but beggars can't be choosers.
Starting point is 00:04:31 Yeah, yeah, for sure. Now let's get to, I don't even want to say this is going to be a crazy debate here because I don't like, yes, I think this was a reach according to where I would have taken him. But Bryce Becher, the linebacker out of Oregon, your guy, you love Oregon players every year. It feels like Jake.
Starting point is 00:04:47 And this was the next in the line here. Betcher, I can never get around on his run defense. I don't think it's even remotely playable in the NFL. But linebackers, can't cover in this league and he actually can. So taking that in round four, I'm not going to complain to sport athlete that I think is going to be a demon on special teams
Starting point is 00:05:08 and can cover on third down. Like, yeah, again, a little bit of a reach for me, but I'm fine with it. I think he's a will linebacker. I'm actually going to give you three comps here, Jake, my low, medium and high. My medium comp was Jack Kaiser from last year's draft, right? My high comp is like a Cole Holcomb type player,
Starting point is 00:05:26 a guy who, you know, played some good ball in the league for a while, can fly around a little bit. My low comp, though, Joe Botchy from last year's training camp. I think that there's a little bit of Joe Botchy. Oh, no. So that's my little bit of pause with him. But I do think that you're going to get kind of more of that medium to high comp with him. He seems like a good player, good head on his shoulders. I think he's going to come in here and compete.
Starting point is 00:05:50 And I like him in past coverage as well. So I don't hate this pick whatsoever. I know I joke that I hated the pick, but I really don't hate this. Yeah, I, so when you're obviously getting into these middle rounds, you're in day three. No one's a complete player. You're just kind of looking for what they can do for you, right? And so obviously coverage is more of his strong suit. Like you automatically look at him and you don't think he's going to really stack up as much of a run defender in the NFL, which is fair.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Like on paper he's got okay size because he's about what, like six two, two 30, but he's a bit narrow. He's a little skinny as well. with the short arms too. So put two and two together. He's probably not going to stack up in the trenches very well. And you see that. I mean, he gets absorbed into traffic a little bit. But more linebackers in this league can defend the run
Starting point is 00:06:42 than they can move well out in space and cover, I think. So I think he can cover a bit. And then he gets to the ball quickly on outside runs and screens and things like that. And he plays with urgency. which is good, not a very passive player. So will he start at Mike? Almost certainly. They say he can play there a little bit.
Starting point is 00:07:06 I think he's going to compete for Will. We'll see how that goes. Ikeem Davis Gaither, I'm sure he's a more polished, powerful player that they're probably a little more comfortable using. Just in general, yeah, I mean, he's probably not a true three-down player, I wouldn't say. Yeah, I'm good with him as a third backer. this year. I think that's a fine role for him, a smart player that I think can be a good baseline player at both spots. So I'm fine with him as a third backer. I think that's a good
Starting point is 00:07:34 role for him. I just wouldn't have put him in like that starter range and the Colts didn't take him to start. So I'm not going to complain. I was nicer on Betcher than I remembered on the show the other day that we talked about him where I was being a little harsh on him. So I didn't say anything too crazy about Betcher. So I don't hate this pick at all. And then one more, Jake, our lone player from our mock drafts that the Colts actually took, George Gums Jr., the edge rusher from Florida, super freak athlete. He was number nine on my build of ballard for edge rushers in this class. He just barely missed with weight.
Starting point is 00:08:08 And I think his 40 time was like one one hundredth of a second off, is why he was a little bit lower on the board. But he hit the explosive metrics. He hit the three cone metrics, barely hit the production metrics as well. So certainly a Chris Ballard type. of player and if you're going to take a player on day three at edge rusher take a super freak like this so and also i was very pumped about his call that he had with Shane stuy and Ballard i was
Starting point is 00:08:33 getting a little teary eyed listening to that too so i'm rooting for him i think this is a project you take a shot on and yeah i'm fine with this picking round five yeah i know a lot of people immediately started belly achin and moaning about Chris Ballard taking a tracy developmental edge again because it's just never worked out in the past. But again, if you have to wait until day three to get an edge rusher that you actually like, this is the type you really go for. I mean, he's young in his development because he did play wide receiver and tight end at Northern Illinois. He's only been playing edge for a couple years now.
Starting point is 00:09:11 But he plays with a high motor. He has a lot of urgency to his game. He's got power too. I think he shows plenty of power like through. contact. And he's, again, super freak athlete, really good 40, really good jumps. So you put all those things together. It's just going to take a little bit of time. But I think he could be a useful player for them a little bit down the road. I don't have high expectations for him right out the gate. But obviously, you know, this is a guy who in my one and only mock draft, I had him in this exact
Starting point is 00:09:47 spot, fifth round, I think, what is it, 156 for this express purpose. Because I didn't have them getting an edge on day two. So I doubled up. I had Keeron Crawford right ahead of him and then George Gumbs as another really good developmental guy with good physical measurements as well. Only got one of those guys, but, you know, gum, gums really for a while now, we've kind of zeroed in on him being a pretty good option for them on day three. If you're going to have to take an edge then.
Starting point is 00:10:17 Yeah, it essentially came down. I think for both of us, like if you're taking an edge rush around day three, Gumbs is just the guy that they would like. And ultimately that, I mean, I had a tweet in jest earlier today before the pick was made, like, oh, they're going to take George Gumbs in round four. And they took him in round five, you know, because he's just such a Chris Ballard type of player. So we'll see if he can develop into the type of guy they need him to be, especially with how
Starting point is 00:10:41 the edge room looks right now. But certainly a project that makes a lot of sense for the Colts. But coming up, we have more players to talk about, including another edge rusher who, Fun fact, I believe he had more sacks this past season than George Gumbs had in his entire college career. So we'll talk about these other picks that the Colts had to close out segment two as well. The NFL draft is here where preparation meets opportunity and every decision matters. All righty, locked on Colts everydayers, we are back breaking down the Colts selections on day three of the NFL draft. Jake Arthur is on location. That's why he's a little in and out of this call right now. We did just get him back. He didn't just need a
Starting point is 00:12:46 Bryce Betcher talk right there. I swear we have him on a little bit longer here. Before we get to the final three selections of the draft, though. Don't forget to check out the Everydayer Club for ad-free episodes and access to a group chat with me, Jake, and other listeners of the show. So tap the link in our show notes. We're going to Lockdowncultz.com. All right, Jake, so getting to round six now, the Colts took another edge rusher this time, Caden Curry from Ohio State, the guy who replaced Jalen to him a low-ow this past season
Starting point is 00:13:15 and had 11 sacks, I believe it was 16 and a half tackles for a loss as well. Now, when you're looking at that, you're looking at Ohio State, it's like, why was this guy available so late? He has the shortest arms for an edge rusher in the last like 15 years, right? So it could be ever. It could be ever. But at least in the last like 15 years, I think he projects well to being just a guy who sticks in this league for a long time as the bottom of the roster past rusher. Like I don't know if he's going to give you anything special, but his energy, his hustle, his versatility. he just screams like a Travis Gibson type guy who like plays for a bunch of teams,
Starting point is 00:13:53 bounces around, give some really good production here and there as like a bottom of the roster guy, but nothing special, nothing to write home about. But we do need a shout out. I can't remember who it was, but early in the draft season, one guy was asking us for Cade and Curry breakdowns every single day. Well, you've got your wish, buddy. I hope you are popping some champagne. But Caden Curry, yeah, I think he's a fine bottom of the roster edge rusher to have a good
Starting point is 00:14:16 depth player. And I think you'll be in this league for the next, like, 10 years bouncing around a couple teams. Yeah, I'm still, like, the great mystery for me is still just trying to find how he wins so successfully. You know what I mean? Like, I think it just really comes down to effort and playing to the whistle. You know, like, we've even asked, like, what's this guy's defining trait and everything? And no one seems to know, you know, a lot of guys are really athletic or they have really good bend or they have power. they're a polished pass rusher with good counter moves.
Starting point is 00:14:49 Like no one knows like why this guy gets, you know, gets into the backfield and is successful. He just finds himself there. We talked to some of the scouts after the draft today. And the scout that had him, I think it was Tyler Hughes, just said, you know, it doesn't always look, it doesn't always look good, but, you know, he gets there. It's like that, that's kind of exactly right.
Starting point is 00:15:10 Like, he's just effort gets him there. But I think, honestly, special teams, is the forefront of what his role is going to be right off the back, because I think I heard special teams and his history there mentioned probably two or three times tonight. So I think initially that's what it's going to be until he can work in, probably on the strong side with Clemens and To him a low out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:35 So I think he's going to stick in this league for a minute. And I'm curious to see what his role looks like in year one, but I think he's certainly worth a roster spot for sure. So there's some hustle. there's some good energy. I don't think he's a bad athlete either. I think he's a fine athlete. If he can get a little bit stronger, it makes the projection a little bit better, but certainly not the worst player to take late in the draft. Like I think this is, again, another fine selection here. And then we round out the draft with two seventh round picks,
Starting point is 00:16:02 two drastically different seventh round picks here. Seth McGowan running back from Kentucky. Now, he's going to turn 25 in season. But there's very little tread on the tires here for a 25-year-old. He started his career back at Oklahoma back in 2020, was arrested for larceny, and among other charges, served three months in prison and was on probation for a year as well, was sitting out of football for two seasons. Then he went back to community college level, went up to New Mexico State, and then up to Kentucky this past season, where he had pretty modest production,
Starting point is 00:16:37 over 700 yards, height, weight speed guy, big, thick running back, who tested out of this world in the offseason. And he was, I think, in the consensus board, like a top 150, top 160 type player. So there was a lot of love for him in the draft cycle. But I think some of that off-field stuff certainly pushed him down the board. But I think it's good value here late to take a shot on him. I don't think you're banking on him being anything like special for you. So as long as like you checked off the like the off-field stuff,
Starting point is 00:17:05 you realized like he served his time and he's learned from that, then I think this can be a perfectly fine late round like investment for the team. Yeah, I'll be real. I am skeptical about this one a little bit. So one of the biggest issues with DJ Giddens last year and why he can never be active or get any playing time on game days was because he did not play special teams at all. They liked who he was as a runner. And like, I think they did want to give him, you know, some time and opportunities to like mix it in and develop a little bit. But he brought them nothing on game days because.
Starting point is 00:17:42 you have to be able to play special teams if you're a backup player and he didn't and mcgowan has almost no special teams background either and so if you if you like these guys as runners just about equally but neither of them play special teams it's like what i i guess i don't understand what we're doing here uh because like tyler goodson and amir abdula both of those guys they played special teams for you that's why they were always active and and useful to you on game days. So I don't I don't know what the plan is between these two. I don't think they're done at running back. Like there's there's some stuff they're doing in the UDFA class that I think is honestly a little more intriguing. But just like as a runner, if it works out, I think this is a good
Starting point is 00:18:31 little tough competition. It'll be between McGowan and DJ Giddens. I do think McGowan does some nice things. He went to Oklahoma as a four-star recruit out of the state. to Texas, so that is pretty legit. Tough, big runner, pretty determined, can catch the ball as well. So if I'm taking my hater hat off for a second, then like he's got some skills. I'm just looking at the bigger picture. I'm a little bit curious about that one. Yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 00:19:02 And then the most notable pick of day three actually was the Colts very last one, a player that on the consensus draft board was a top 100 player. most people had him as a top 100 player. You and I actually did like a hater episode on him recently where we said we wouldn't take him in the top 100. But I will say this, when we did that, yeah, I didn't want him in the top 100, but I would have taken him in round like five.
Starting point is 00:19:23 Like I would have taken him over George Gumbs in round five to be like competition for the Z wide receiver. So I guess I'll go out on a limb and say this. This was my favorite pick of day three. Dionne Burks from Oklahoma, the wide receiver. Now, why did he fall so late in this draft, right? He's a smaller player who dealt with injuries in pretty much every single season of his college career. And I'm sure teens were a little bit nervous about that.
Starting point is 00:19:47 He's also not like the greatest route runner. He's more of like, I don't want to call him a gadget guy because I think he can be like a Z receiver and run and do those like run away from them type routes. But I like what I saw, man. Like I like again, he fell this late because of injury history. And that's something that's probably still going to be there in the NFL. But, you know, if we're going to do like a committee approach to Z wide receiver and 11 personnel, I'm cool with it. Like, I think he can be a fine player in there.
Starting point is 00:20:14 I'm actually not as terrified about wide receiver because of Berks. I think he's a guy who can be in that rotation there. So, like, you know, I'm not saying it's the greatest thing ever, but if you have Doolin, Westbrook Aquina and Burks being like your competition there as your Z receiver in purely 11 personnel because Downs is going to kick out in 12 personnel, yeah, I think it's fine. Like, it's not great. Sure, you'd love another upgrade.
Starting point is 00:20:39 there, but I think it can work, especially with Shane Sike and who can scheme guys open. I think it can be fine. So I kind of like this addition. I think he can get some snaps on offense if things break his way in training camp and he stays healthy. Yeah. So I like the George Gums pick a lot, but this overall, I think, might be like the best value pick for them in the draft.
Starting point is 00:21:01 It's later than we thought. And again, we wouldn't have picked him where the consensus really had him. But that doesn't mean he wasn't draftable at all. all. But like you said, I feel better about receiver after this. I'm not going to say there's no need there, but I know the Colts are high on Berks. And for being a seventh round pick, I certainly feel like he has a good chance of not only making the roster, but having a role. They see him contributing in the return game as well, which he hasn't done much of since Purdue. But to me, I see him as like an immediate threat to Anthony Gould, because at no point this offseason
Starting point is 00:21:39 have the Colts talked about Anthony Gould when we've been like, hey, you have two receivers to replace. They haven't mentioned him at all. They've mentioned Laquan Treadwell. They've mentioned Westbrook Akina and Ashton Doolin, but they have not mentioned this young guy they've had on their team for a few years now. So Burks could come in and immediately threaten Gould. And I asked Mike, Mike Lacey, the scout, who is kind of oversaw Berks in this process. I was like what makes him not just pigeonholed as like a little guy, a little vertical gadget guy basically, because that's what happens with these guys, especially if they're picked this late. And he said like his ability to separate and, you know, get in and out of his cuts, but also his play strength, which was, I was really taken back by that. Did you know he benched 26 reps? Yeah, he's a thick small, like he's a muscular smaller receiver.
Starting point is 00:22:35 like a five foot nine hundred and eighty pound receiver to bench 26 reps there are a ton of guys much much much bigger than him that don't put up that much so this dude's play strength is really good for how small he is uh and i actually think that could play a significant role in him withstanding the rigors of the NFL i mean that receiver you're on the boundary most often and you're not taking the biggest hits in the world. But for a little guy to have strength, I think will help. Yeah, no, for sure. Coming up, guys, we're going to talk about the state of the Colts roster.
Starting point is 00:23:12 I know you guys want to hear us talk about undrafted free agency, but we're going to wait until those things are official with undrafted free agency, although I do love, I saw two signings were Cameron Ball and West Weeks. We're going to talk about those guys a lot more on the squad show on Sunday. But to frown out the rest of this show, we're going to talk about just the state of this Colts roster. And how do we feel about this team? guess now that the draft is behind us and we kind of have a clearer look on how things are going going
Starting point is 00:23:37 forward the NFL draft is this week it just wrapped and every pick is a tradable moment on call she hopefully you guys got in on some of the fun there i know just right off the bat one of the biggest things they were most excited about was the number two pick the draft started at number two we all knew about Mendoza but between david bailey and arvel ral reese who was going to be those guys were driving like a 50-50 line uh essentially the whole time and if eventually Bailey won out. Starting point is 00:24:19 and use code locked on to get $10 when you trade 10. Call She, K-A-L-S-H-I. Call-She, Trade on anything. All right, everybody, thanks for hanging with us here. So we've talked to about day two, day three, the Colts have obviously made it a point to re-energize that defense. They, you know, added a couple people in the skill positions on offense. You got an offensive lineman. So how are we feeling about this roster now, Zach? Like, are any of the big holes that we came into the weekend with that they still exist? Do you feel better about anything that was lacking?
Starting point is 00:24:58 Like, where are we standing here? Yeah, I guess we can start with the positives. I feel a lot better about safety and linebacker right now, especially, linebacker, right? Linebacker was the biggest concern coming into this week where the only guys they had were Akeem Davis Gather and if Jalen Carlis could stay healthy for like a week or two, maybe they would have him in there. They didn't really have anything else at linebacker. Now you're plugging at a guy who was starting at Georgia at 18 years old, who was a first team All-American at 20 and now is going to be your green dot at 21. Like this is a guy who's just ready for
Starting point is 00:25:32 the moment, very good fit for the defense. Then you add it. in a Bryce Betcher who had over 100 tackles the last three seasons in college. Whether, again, whether you're like me and you think he can start or not is one thing, but be a high level, high leverage depth player that can cover. Yeah, absolutely can do that. Then you even add in like a guy like West Weeks who I think can be a good camp body that can compete and maybe even make your roster by the end of camp. So, yeah, linebacker I feel very good about right now.
Starting point is 00:25:58 And then safety, just getting that playmaker to play strong safety next to Cameron Bynum, a guy who's going to fit so well in their. in their cover one robber stuff and some of their cover three stuff, even when they go to like cover two being a split field safety. I think AJ Halsey is going to be a really good fit there. So I feel really good about those two positions. Offensive line, again, getting a six guy in there that you feel comfortable with, I think is a big thing there. And then adding some depth at running back as well with McGowan and a couple undrafted free agents. So there are a few spots I feel a lot better at. And Jake, before we go to the negatives, I guess, do you kind of agree with that or do you have any other
Starting point is 00:26:35 you want to add on? Yeah, I don't feel like certain spots are as dire as they were before. Like there's still a couple things you could do with some free agents. But they had a couple areas where I thought like you cannot enter the season, how it looks right now. And while I am a bit skeptical of edge still, like I do think they could use a more proven power player there, it does feel deeper than it was last year at this point. there's more players to feel positive about, I guess.
Starting point is 00:27:09 Arden Key is someone that gives you something. George Gumbs is a nice developmental guy that we like. Law too hopefully takes another step. They're putting a lot of eggs in the Tua Molo out basket, but it is what it is. And then Michael Clemens and Caden Curry bring you a little bit of power as well. So edges deeper than I think it was before. And then at receiver.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Now, I don't think just. adding Dionne Burks makes it to where you can't add anybody else, but I certainly feel better about it. Like, because I don't think he's just a one-trick pony. I think he can kind of help you with the separation stuff and the crossers and the yards after catch opportunities. So I see a relatively complete receiver core when it comes to all the skill sets being met.
Starting point is 00:27:57 But yeah, safety definitely. I think you're getting a really modern secondary now. just because guys like A.J. Halsey and Wanii Thomas are multi-talented. They could do different things for you. Obviously, Hunter Woller. We think he can too if he's healthy and he's out there. Justin Wally has inside, outside versatility. So there's certain areas I feel better about how dynamic they can be.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Yeah, for sure. And I guess to bring this to a little bit of negative before we get to closing out this show, my big concern, I think, is something that was going to happen regardless with this draft, right? The Colts just had too many holes and not enough, like, high leverage, high premium picks to fill those holes. So no matter what they did in the first two rounds or even what they did in round four, right, you weren't going to fill all those gaps. Like, even if they came out of this draft with like going after all those big positions, even if they took Deny Dennis Sutton and Bryce Lance, right? Like two guys who were really high on the consensus board in round four,
Starting point is 00:28:57 I'm still not feeling great about edge rusher at that point. I mean, I'm not still feeling like great at wide receiver because I think Lance is a developmental player. So either way, I think we would have been concerned about the positions they didn't take in round two or round three with the guys that they took there. So, you know, I'm really concerned about Edge. I'm really concerned about Edge. Jalen Toem a low-ow. I think there's some potential there.
Starting point is 00:29:23 There really wasn't much on the rookie film that says that you should be that high on him, as the Colts apparently are. And I know you can't just burn a second round pick right like that. right like you still have to give them some chances but i mean again you're putting a lot of your you know your your edge rush on a guy who wasn't productive and barely played last season and yet what zero sacks and like eight games played last year it's like i think you have to sign an edge but then why are you double dipping at edge if you feel like you need to go sign one right because that means one or two of these guys are going to get cut you know so i don't know if they're going to sign an edge and that concerns
Starting point is 00:30:00 me because Toimo Loao and Curry as your base down edges and Clemens rotating in and then like Key and Latu as your pass rushers, I mean, unless Latu becomes Max Crosby, I don't think that's good enough. And especially with Buckner, we don't know what Buckner is going to look like
Starting point is 00:30:16 this year, you know? So I don't know. I said this a lot throughout the pre-draft process. I was not a fan of double dipping at Edge on day three because one, day three edges aren't going to be productive in year one for you. They're just going to be bottomed the roster guys.
Starting point is 00:30:32 And then it just takes up roster spots that you can't really put other guys in there. So I don't know. We'll see. We'll see. I'll reserve judgment, I guess, until training camp. I keep saying this all the times. But, yeah, I don't know about the edge rush plan right now, man. Like, I don't feel great about it.
Starting point is 00:30:51 So what are your thoughts? I know you were a little bit higher on double dipping an edge than I was. Yeah, I'm fine with the depth. got now, but I am skeptical about what it's going to look like as a whole. Just because you're putting a lot of eggs in the baskets of guys who haven't proven they're capable yet. Like, Tuma Lauer hasn't shown you enough yet. And, you know, Clemens, he's been in the league for four years and Jets fans were ecstatic
Starting point is 00:31:23 for him to go. Arden Key has been like a fine third pass rusher. but the more like right now he is probably your second best pass rusher um so i like how things could look for the future but i i still am pretty iffy about how things will go this year and i mean they can't they can prop up to him a low out all they want but the fact of the matter is they tried to get trey hendrickson who is like leaps and bounds a more effective pass rusher from what we saw from Toa Malau. So like, you basically went from a guy who has all this enormous production in the NFL
Starting point is 00:32:03 and led the NFL and sacks over to your stretch to now go into a guy who played 215 snaps last year as a rookie. Like, you can't hide that fact. That, that is what happened. That's where we're at right now. So I think they're taking a leap of faith that they didn't intend on taking. But that, that's just kind of, that's where we're at right now. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Yeah. Yeah, and not to end this on a negative note, so just to be positive here, I do think the Colts got pretty good value overall in this draft class. I think they took really good value on day three, and day two, I think they took exceptional value, but even on day three, I think they took some pretty good value overall. I think they took players from, like, productive players from high-level programs that are going to help them. So I do think this was overall a pretty good draft class. Like because day two was such a home run for me, like, and I gave day two like an A-plus,
Starting point is 00:32:55 and day three I'd say like a B plus you know like an a minus draft class a draft class I know we don't do a bunch of grades on here but I think it was a good draft class for them overall I think it's going to help them it's just I still think the state of the roster needs a little bit more work before training camp kicks off so we'll see the cold still have some roster shuffling to do they still have a lot of cab space to play with so there is room for more moves although not really player room because they have like 90 plus players on the roster currently so they will have to make some moves regardless, but we'll see if they bring in some other outside help to finish up this team. That is all we have for today, though, guys. We'll be back with the Colt Squad
