Starting point is 00:00:00 With the 2026 NFL draft behind us, it's time to get into some winners and losers, highlighting Jalen Tumelow as the biggest winner of the week. Let's get to it. You are Locked-on Colts, your daily Indianapolis Colts podcast. Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day. Welcome to Locked-on Colts. I'm Zach Hicks. That's Jake Arthur, and today we are diving into the winners and the losers of the
Starting point is 00:00:35 2026 NFL draft. And by winners and losers, we mean players or coaches that were around the Indianapolis Colts this past season. So obviously, you know, C.J. Allen and A.J. Halsey are big winners because they've been drafted. But we're going to more so talk about guys on the roster, along with some coaches who are the big winners of the day and big winners of the week, that is, from the NFL draft. So close it out with some losers and on a negative note. But we're going to start on some more positive note here. And let's talk about Jalen to him a low out, Jake, as the biggest winner of the week. There was a lot of conversation that the Colts could go defensive end.
Starting point is 00:01:10 They could go edge early to potentially start. And then that would have left to him a low out in a really weird spot as a former second round pick that clearly they didn't like the rookie season enough. So they had to go out and draft somebody else. But the Colts didn't draft someone to start, right? The earliest draft pick they spent was a fifth rounder on George Gums Jr. He's likely not going to get the call over to him, And same with Caden Curry, who they took in round six.
Starting point is 00:01:36 So it does appear like the other starting edge job is firmly Jalen to him, a lowow is to lose. And that's not something we all kind of expected coming out of the draft. So easily the biggest winner by not having that early addition be an edge rusher. Yeah, I mean, this guy's got nine lives. I mean, the offseason started with the Colts really thinking they kind of had Trey Hendrickson in the bag, who obviously would have started right there opposite a lot to. that fell through.
Starting point is 00:02:03 And then the Colts, you know, they made some edge additions, but Michael Clemens was the only one really on the strong side that they made. And that's an okay rotational guy, but not someone who's going to threaten to be the starter, really. And then you come out of the draft, you and I were saying, you know, they could really use a strong side guy. Zion Young could deny Dennis Sutton do it, J. Sean Barham.
Starting point is 00:02:26 The draft comes and goes. You know, T.J. Parker gets picked before as well. The draft comes and goes. and you kind of have to settle for developmental rotational guys. So Gumbs is going to be, I think, eventually when he hits his stride, more of a rotational guy with the LATU portion of it. And then Caden Curry is, you know, fine, but he's already been working behind jail and two him a low out before at Ohio State.
Starting point is 00:02:52 So two of them a low out probably with better traits, you know, translatable NFL traits. I don't really see Curry overtaking him. in the NFL either. So yeah, two of them a low out, unless the Colts coming up here and I don't know, in the next week or so makes some sort of significant edge move. It looks like this is his battle to lose. So I assume we're going to see this be between like him and Arden Key and Clemens.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Arden Key just even though he's more of a, you know, rush in type, just being the more experienced of the two and he's got starting experience before. But yeah, I mean, they're finally, it sounds like going to give this guy a chance to do it. And who knows? I mean, do we think he's going to be a star? No. But can he give you like strong run defense and, you know, maybe a pressure or so, a game, hopefully. Like five sacks on the season would be fine, like, I guess, right?
Starting point is 00:03:51 It would be perfectly fine. You want more production there. But like, if he is, if he is stout against the run and he's not a detriment, to be out there, then I think it's fine. You know what I mean? Like, we all would have wanted more, but you'll, you got to dance with who brung at a certain point. And if they don't make another move, they don't make another move.
Starting point is 00:04:10 But, you know, to him alone, I was certainly being given a golden opportunity here to get that starting spot. Yeah, absolutely. After only like 200 snaps in his rookie season, zero sacks. 115, I believe. What was it? Two 15. Sorry, 215, it snaps in his rookie season.
Starting point is 00:04:26 And no sacks currently, as of right now. we'll see what he can do in year two for the Colts. Another big winner, though, Ashton Doolin, a player that has been a winner in our hearts for a long time, Jake. But, yeah, Ashton Doolin appears to be the next guy up at Z wide receiver, right? Because who's really going to challenge him at this point. You got Nick Westbrook Aquina, who was signed this offseason, a veteran player who didn't really have much a role with Miami last year, but was a fine role player with the Tennessee Titans before that. you have seventh round pick Dionne Burks.
Starting point is 00:05:00 But, you know, again, this was another position that we were thinking the Coles could go get to Jean Stribling, Ted Hurst, some of these guys in the top 100. And instead, like, outside of Dionne Burks, they haven't added to that position much this offseason. So I think, I mean, Doolin, even if it's not like a full-time starting job at Z, I think he's going to be like the third most snap receiver this season as of right now because he's experienced. the staff clearly loves him and he knows what he's doing. So, I mean, props to Ashton Doolin, right,
Starting point is 00:05:32 we're finally going to get his chance this next season to get real snaps on the offense because it looks like he's going to hit career highs across the board in like pretty much every stat as long as this holds true. Yeah, among the guys that are there, the most responsible thing to do is to give Doolin that not as the third starting receiver. Again, they just, they know what to expect from him. You know, Westbrook-Kekina, I think, is fine in a, you know, kind of a limited role. He does some dirty work.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Like, he's a good blocker. He can win vertically. He uses his body to win these matchups. But, like, it's a bit of a niche role compared to what they'll probably want someone like Doolin to do. And they are, like, again, he's been in the system now for what this is going to be year four. So, like, they're just, that's what it's going to be. Unless Dionne Burks just comes on and explodes onto the scene, which. I think he'll be pretty good for a seventh rounder,
Starting point is 00:06:27 but I'm not really expecting him to like you surf Ashton Doolin. It certainly looks like he'll get the opportunity. Big thing for him is just staying healthy because he's kind of a guy when he does get an opportunity to grow in a certain area, it gets stolen from him by some sort of injury or something. You know, like this year, he did set personal best as a kick returner, but he was performing at a pro bowl level, essentially. He was for my money, I think was going to be an all pro special team
Starting point is 00:06:54 or just with everything he was doing in that complete third of the game and then that hamstring injury put him on IR for a bit. But yeah, I certainly think he's going to be able to maintain kind of the gadgety stuff Shane was having him do. But also just the ends and outs of just being a regular role wide receiver. I'm pretty eager to see it happen. Yeah, no, for sure.
Starting point is 00:07:16 It's been a long time coming. He's one of the longest tenured Colts at this point. He came over here in 2018 as an undrafted free agent. I think 2018 or, I think it was 2019, actually, that he came over as an undrafted free agent, but that's still one of the longest tenured players, especially for an undrafted free agent. So it would be really cool to see him get his chance.
Starting point is 00:07:34 I don't know how great he's going to be in that role, but it would be fun to see him get that chance for the Colts. Next guy up here, Cam Taylor Britt at cornerback. You know, we didn't really speculate too much that the Colts were going to go corner like super early in this draft, but there were certainly some opportunities on day three for them to add another corner to that room and make the competition, you know, a little bit tougher, but Cam Taylor Britt has emerged as probably the next guy up on the outside,
Starting point is 00:07:59 especially with Justin Wally moving in to be the slot guy this year. I mean, it's Cam Taylor Britt's job to lose to be that next man up behind Mooney Ward and Sauce Gardner, which might be one of the most valuable positions on the roster, considering those two guys last year. Gardner played, what, one and a half games for the Colts, two and a half games for them last season, and Mooney Ward was put on IR like two or three separate times. That next, corner up is very valuable. So if Taylor Britt can find that that early Bengals form again, if you can get healthy and get his mind right, he has a chance to be like a really important piece for this Colts team. But that's
Starting point is 00:08:36 going to be on him to be the Cam Taylor Britt that he was to start his career, not what he was this past year for the Bengals. Yeah, I think if the Colts would have drafted a corner in the second, third, or fourth round, it certainly would have put Taylor Britt on notice. But without them doing that. I mean, he's already got the equity with Lou Anorumo. And we've seen Lou before. If he knows you and likes you, he's going to give you, he's going to give you the longest rope to go ahead and try to earn your keep, basically. So as long as he stays healthy, as long as he rebounds somewhat. And like you said, starts to look more like the earlier portion of his career rather than the last couple years in Cincinnati. He is playing a pretty, a pretty,
Starting point is 00:09:22 valuable spot because Sauce dealt with injury. Mooney obviously dealt with injury. We've seen how quickly you can get down to like your fifth corner with this team. So Mackay Blackman, I think already was, you know, they traded a draft pick for him. So he already was going to be here. But Taylor Britt was the guy that I thought was really on the most slippery slope if they were going to draft someone else. Yeah, no for sure. And also speaking of injuries, Wally missed all last year with an injury as well. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:09:49 Yeah, a lot of injuries in that Colts cornerback room last year. So those next guys up are going to be very valuable. So Cam Taylor Britt kind of earning a little bit of an edge by not having competition drafted into his room. But coming up, guys, we're going to keep talking about players that won, another position group. And then we're going to talk about some coaches that one, most notably on the O line coach who said, just give me this guy and I'll make it work. Well, he got that guy in this NFL draft. NFL draft is all done, but we are still talking about it, obviously,
Starting point is 00:10:20 because it's where preparation meets opportunity. and every decision matters. It's all about being ready when your moment arrives. Tap the link in the show notes or go to Lockdowncoldspot, supercast.com to join in on the fun. that, Zach, that chat has just been so cool to watch grow all the time.
Starting point is 00:11:28 We've got our frequent flyers in there that are always in there chatting about the Colts. If we need to bounce some ideas off people, we know exactly where to go because they keep that, that chat room really rolling. So that's fun to watch. All right. So let's continue here talking about the winners and the losers of the Colts draft hall. So we talked about some players so far, but we have one group left that we've got to get to. So every mock draft we ever wanted to do, Zach, we always had some sort of backup nose tackle on there.
Starting point is 00:12:01 You keep wanting your 325 plus pound behemoth. It just keeps getting bypassed. But you know what? The existing one tech depth behind Grover Stewart lives on another day. Tim Smith, Derek Naughty, and Jerry Tilleri, those guys, they stay alive. you know, I thought the Colts feasibly could have addressed defensive tackle as early as like the third round or something, you know? Like, how many times did I put Daryl Jackson Jr. on there, Dominique Orange for you? Like, it made sense. But they drafted nobody there. So Tim Smith, it is your opportunity to be the young guy that's really showing growth.
Starting point is 00:12:40 Derek Nottie and Jerry Tilleri, you're the wily old veterans kind of like hanging in there and, you know, just play responsibly. Smith doesn't really blow up, then it's your job. Yeah, that sounds great, doesn't it? Yeah. Everyone loves to win by default, you know. I've been wanting the young 325 plus pound guy for so many years. I do it in every mock for the last three years and we never get it. And Chris Ballard stays not investing in defensive tackle in the NFL draft.
Starting point is 00:13:09 It's his least invested position. I know part of that is because they traded for DeForest Buckner and then they hit on Grover-Stewart, but still, I mean, you need depth of those positions and they've been throwing Neville Gallimore and Taven Brian and Eric Johnson is the backup one tech over the years. And it really, I mean, Gallimore was fine, but it hasn't worked with the other ones across his career. So I don't love the decision. Maybe one of those edge picked could have been a one tech defensive tackle. But we hold out hope for Campbell, the undrafted free agent out of Arkansas.
Starting point is 00:13:42 I just have to make him my guy just because he's like 327 pounds in a decent mover. So we hold out hope for Cam Ball or for Tim Smith or maybe Derek Noddy if he could just fall forward every play. I don't know, man. I don't love the backup one techs here. I'm almost fine with Kobe Wood and just being the backup one tech, even though the Colts have said repeatedly he was out of position last year playing. Well, another part of it, like you need a depth if Grover was 25 years old, but he's going to be 33 by the time the season ends.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Right. defensive tackles take a while to get ready to cook. Like, don't you want that guy ready to go by the time Grover is out? Yeah, I don't know. It seems like good logic to me. Like Grover is in like the prime age four nose tackles, but when that prime ends, it ends quickly. And then you become a guy who bounces around the league. So yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:14:37 I don't want to spend all day on this, but. Let's get to the coaches. I know. Let's get to the coach. Let's talk Tony Sprano, Jr. here because, again, Round four is the Tony Spirano Jr. round of the NFL draft, right? The Colts, ever since he's been here, have given him round four to just take who he wants, right? Whether it's Jalen Travis, Tanner Bordellini, and now it's Jalen Farmer out of Kentucky,
Starting point is 00:15:01 the guard who they've said could maybe play tackle, can maybe play other places on the line. And of course, the Colts released that video that where Tony said behind the scenes after the combine, like, just give me that guy and I'll make it work. look if Tony ever says that about an offensive lineman and it's feasible to get him that guy, just give it to him at this point, right? He's turned Tanner-Bortening into an above-average center. McAnsovus was a college tackle turned guard. It was league average last year, right?
Starting point is 00:15:28 Will Fries, Baron Hart, Ryman both have breakout years and breakout careers now after working with Tony. So whatever he says, just let it go. I mean, the Colts even said this, right? Like Shane Steichen has said, oh, we have Tony, we can make it work. Chris Ballard has said, we just, fault to Tony on these things. So yeah, get him who we want and we're good. So if he ever says that about a prospect, regardless of if I thought it was the worst prospect ever, if he's saying that, cool, I'm all good. Let's let's go from there. Yeah, I mean, he just, he speaks their language and
Starting point is 00:15:59 he makes them believe in themselves and trust him. You know what I mean? Like, I've talked to prospects like as they're getting drafted or even beforehand where they are always left with a lasting, like impression of talking to him like where i asked jalen farmer about him on draft night and he like he was like i could just tell how genuine he is and how much he loves ball and like he loves his players and it's like they just want to play for him and he is responsible for the offensive line turnaround because a lot of people could say it's jeff saturday whatever but like the line went to crap after the run the damn ball era it got really bad and then in comes verano and then here it comes it gets turned around uh but
Starting point is 00:16:41 No, I mean, he with Farmer, it's not, I don't feel like it's just one player that he's getting. It's a potential solution to multiple spots. You could just by default get your backup guard. And then if he, if that means he beats Dalton Tucker, well, like we briefly discussed yesterday, maybe Dalton Tucker could be your new backup center. Farmer could be your new swing tackle. Or if he wins the right guard spot, then now you have a really high quality backup. or a really high quality swing tackle and either Gonzalez or Jalen Travis,
Starting point is 00:17:15 whoever doesn't win the right tackle spot. So this one guy can lead to a few different really high quality solutions because you really need probably a, you probably needed a couple guys on the interior of the line coming into this. But it seems like farmers dynamic enough to kind of solve a couple different spots on his own. Yeah, no, absolutely. Getting to another coach who I think won the day, though, or just won this draft, Lou Anirumo, getting two back seven guys at positions they desperately needed.
Starting point is 00:17:44 You're not going into the season with Austin Ajika as you're Mike linebacker. And, you know, I keep forgetting, Jonathan Owens. I almost always say Simone Biles' husband, Jonathan Owens as you're starting safety, right? So you don't have those guys as your starters. Now you have AJ Halsey, this ball hawk strong safety who sets a physical tone as well. You could see how pumped they were in the behind the scenes video about getting Halsey. And then you get your Mike linebacker who has already been playing the NFL game the last three years at Georgia, right? He just knows how to be an NFL linebacker.
Starting point is 00:18:18 He can set your defense seamlessly as well. I know it's going to be a little bit of a turnaround form going from college to the pro, but he gets these guys lined up. He gets these guys in the right position and he communicates better than most prospects. So getting Allen at your mic and then getting Halsey as your strong safety. I mean, if you're a defensive coach for the coach, you're probably pumped about those two additions. I think they're going to be pretty high-level rookies for them, and I think they're going to start right away and play some good ball.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Yeah, I mean, Allen is, like, obviously we know that's a really solid addition, but I know the college gaming program are, they're different. It's not apples to apples. But, like, when you look at how Zaire Franklin performed as an NFL linebacker last year and how C.G. Allen performed as a starting Mike linebacker in the SEC, Allen's marks just crushed him in every area. And last year, too. C.J. Allen was all, like, he was an elite level linebacker in the SEC for at least the last two years.
Starting point is 00:19:19 So do those things translate to the NFL? We'd certainly like to think so. And then with Halsey, I think we were fine with the options to replace Nick Cross. Like, they had a few different guys to throw together there, but now they get a no doubt upgrade. physically he plays a lot like Nick Cross, but he has much better instincts and football IQ. Like the guy sees route combinations and he knows what to do in coverage. He plays fast as well, and he's dynamic.
Starting point is 00:19:50 He can play the back end. He can play close to the line of scrimmage. And then so now the Colts kind of got a version of Nick Cross that is good in coverage, which, you know, we were cool with Nick Cross coming back for the right price, but now they're getting a guy on a rookie deal. that's even better. So, yeah, they really got lucky there. Lou Anuromo's group did.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Yeah, I do think Halsey is a better fit for the Colts defense than what Nick Cross was. Nick Cross was fun, he was a good player for them. I'm not even going to say Halsey's better than Cross at this point because Cross has proven in the NFL that he can be a solid safety. But I do think this is a better fit for what the Colts want to do in coverage, where Cross was pretty limited in coverage. Even though the run defense was better with Cross, I just think with Halsey you get much better coverage. average upside. So I'm excited for what that looks like this next season. Coming up, though, we're going to talk some losers on this Colts roster. Some guys who are here where either a replacement was drafted that might limit some of their playing time or they didn't
Starting point is 00:20:48 get their trade requests that they have been requesting for quite a few weeks now. Already, locked on Colts every dayers, we are back talking about the biggest losers on the Colts roster. And this doesn't mean like these guys are all out or whatever. All that sounds rough. I know. Yeah, biggest non-winners on the Colts. roster following the 2026 NFL draft. And I think we have to start with the two guys who have requested trades. Now, not so much for Kenny Moore because the Colts already said they're going to be pretty lenient with where he goes, right? So even if it's not a trade, they'll just cut him and he can pick his next destination. So it's kind of even hard to put him
Starting point is 00:21:27 in this, but him not getting his departure that he wants and he's still here. You know, it's part of the equation here. But Anthony Richardson, I think, is one of the bigger ones because if now all these teams have young quarterbacks, right? They've all drafted these younger quarterbacks to come in in that they're going to invest in in and they're going to give more reps in training camp. So where does that leave you until training camp, right? Now you're just stuck on a roster where the, look,
Starting point is 00:21:54 the head coach doesn't bring him up ever when talking about this upcoming off season. The head coach has fully moved on. He talks Riley Leonard and he talks Daniel Jones. That's all he talks about. He doesn't say a thing about Anthony Richardson and less directly asked. and then he says and then he just kind of deflects from there.
Starting point is 00:22:10 Richardson's not in the plans for this team. And if he is still on the roster, he's either not going to be a training camp or he's going to be the healthy scratch QB3 all year if he is here. If that, right, because I don't, again, Shane Steichen is clearly not not about it anymore. So I do think that he's kind of a loser of this situation because it's like,
Starting point is 00:22:29 it's like a divorced couple still living in the same house, right? Like that's not good for anybody. It's not, it's not a health. like it might be financially responsible still, but it's not good for anybody. No one's enjoying that situation. So that's kind of what we're at right now.
Starting point is 00:22:43 And it'll be better if we could just get these two parties to move out and be separate from each other. And we'll see when that can eventually get done this off season. Yeah. I'm very curious. Like I know the market there. There's not been much from market. So take that for what it is. But I do wonder how much of it is with the limited interest,
Starting point is 00:23:04 the Colts just not wanting to accept such low return. But at a certain point, don't you just have to do it? Like, and especially if like the eye, the division problems are a thing, take anything you can get at this point. You know what I mean? Like, I mean, I think by now maybe you just wait for like a quarterback injury to happen in the preseason because at this point, the draft is over. like what do the next three months mean you know right but do we think he's going to be at training
Starting point is 00:23:38 camp at all i mean i know financially because it financially it costs a lot of money so i think he'll probably be there unless the team excuses him because like i think the team can be like you know we get it we're going to waive this you know what i mean so there's i mean there's that but there's there's just no benefit to it and i mean now that it's after the draft you you i know they probably wanted compensation for this year but now that it's after the draft you can do the conditional pick now where you're like okay six round pick conditional fifth if you resign him or he makes a pro bowl or play 70 percent whatever you know um i don't know that's that's just whatever it is i mean with kinney it's he asked for a trade and didn't get it
Starting point is 00:24:28 so technically that's on the loser part but like yeah now he can like hand pick wherever he goes after he gets released, you know. Yeah, if it comes down to being a release. Sure. Like, there's still talks going on, but yeah, we'll ultimately see what happens with that. Moving on from those topics, though, because gosh, we could talk all offseason about those two topics, and I'm sure we will at differing points. Linebacker, Jalen Carlis, Austin, Ajigay, I think specifically Carly's here is the big one
Starting point is 00:24:56 to focus on because he was the guy that they had a lot of faith in going into last offseason, and he was kind of the big loser of last off season, or just last off season and last season in general, with his injury that limited him throughout the entire year and led to Jermaine Pratt coming in, and him never really having a role in the defense, like whatsoever. Now he's going into his third season. He's barely been healthy in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:25:19 And there was a glimmer of hope if the goals didn't draft CJ out. They didn't draft Bryce Becher. If they didn't bring in Akeem Davis Gather for him to get a chance to get on the field. but now it appears that he's at best fourth in the rotation right now. And they might have Austin and GK ahead of him. They might have West Weeks or whoever these other guys are ahead of him as well. So it does look kind of bleak right now for Jalen Carlis and his prospects, not only starting or playing on defense this year,
Starting point is 00:25:51 but making the team in general, I would say. Yeah, I think with Carlis, it's pretty much a wrap. because if you look at it, they've definitely, so it's, it's Allen, it's Betcher and Ajikah as like the top three. And Akeem Davis Gathe, they're obviously, right. So the rest of the guys are, you're looking at for strong special teams considerations. Well, you went and you claimed John Bullock at the end of last year. Devin Verisuke, I've got to imagine the whole point of that was with special teams as well. I mean, Carlis, they tried to get him on special teams last year, but it's like,
Starting point is 00:26:28 I don't even think it was 20 snaps. If I remember, it's just like the last few games. So if you're really just looking at guys who are strong on special teams, well, he's not stronger than the next guy on special teams. Like there's, I just think there's no room anymore at this point. A GK at least is a core special teamer for you. So where his opportunity to play defense is probably gone now, as of these moves in the draft,
Starting point is 00:26:52 he at least is going to get 150 snaps plus for you on special teams throughout the year. So, yeah, Carlis is probably not on the team at all. And then a GK just not going to play defense, I would imagine. Yeah, I mean, again, injuries happen. So maybe these guys do get their chance still because knock on wood, hopefully he has to be healthy. Well, as I said, Carlize has to even be able to be on the field. Like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:17 He spent like the entire calendar year of 2025 unavailable. Like by the time he was ready to play in training camp, he got hurt like a week into it and then missed like four months with that ankle injury. So more often than not, of the entire calendar year, he was unable to participate. Yeah, and most of 2024 as well, like half of that season, he was on IR. So it's about just staying healthy for him, bouncing off of just positions the coach drafted high in this draft, just any of the safeties they brought in. You can even kind of say Hunter Woler to a degree, right? But Hunter Woler is going to be on this team.
Starting point is 00:27:52 He's going to have a role unless the foot injury is just like you can't bounce back from it, which we have no indication of that. that he's going to be on this team and have a role. But, you know, the guys like Jonathan Owens, Juanier Thomas, even like Nassir Adderly, Ruben Lowry, you could throw in there as well. Like all of those guys, they probably thought coming into the draft, they would have a chance to compete for the starting role or for a role on this defense. But then the second you hear A.J. Halsey announced it's, okay, now we're competing for safety four, safety five.
Starting point is 00:28:23 Like, we're competing for one of the last few spots, which is fine. I mean, now of these guys have really shown that they've earned anything more than that in the NFL, but that little opening they had to potentially be a starter next season turned into, okay, we're competing for a roster spot among these couple guys. So it does kind of suck for them. They lose that little opportunity, but that's what happens when you draft a guy in the top 100. Yeah, especially when you draft a guy that can kind of wear multiple hats. You don't, and there was like maybe a couple small roles available,
Starting point is 00:28:55 not an entire just strong safety role, but the Ronnie Thomas role was a thing. You know, there's little pockets of opportunity that have kind of just been filled at this point. Next up, I would say Blake Freeland and Luke Tanuda when it comes to swing tackle, because we kind of addressed that with the Jalen Farmer of it all, but the potential for someone better to be now in the mix there, I think is much greater. you know, they didn't directly draft a tackle, but just kind of the trickle down from Farmer joining, I certainly think, hurts Freeland and Tanuda's chances. They may not both make it.
Starting point is 00:29:35 Yeah, Nolan Rucci in the mix as well. I like Nolan Rucci. I think Tanuda has a decent shot because he was on the team for most of last season, but we'll see with Freeland and how he comes back from that broken ankle. And then we'll see if Rucci can be like a wild card on this as well. And then two quick ones we've got to add here, Anthony Gould and DJ Giddens. For Giddens, the Colts drafted another running back, plus they added like three undrafted free agent running backs as well to come in here and compete.
Starting point is 00:30:02 And then for Gould, I mean, grabbing Dionne Berks, who they're clearly very high on, potentially could play a little bit in the slot. But also, like you mentioned a lot, Jake, that they're going to have him compete for return snaps as well, which could take away opportunities from Gould. So the arrival of Dionne Burke certainly puts Anthony Gould's roster spot in jeopardy. Yeah, without question because there just won't be room for both of those guys, especially since you have to have kind of receiver by committee because you don't have a Michael Pittman that, you know, fills this whole thing. Like you have, you're kind of piecemealing this thing together. So I don't think there will be room for everybody.
Starting point is 00:30:38 One guy I did want to mention real quick for the winners that we didn't get to get to, but I'd be remiss not to do it. Brian Mason. So Brian Mason always seems to get his guys as well. He lost a lot when it comes to special teams. offseason. Tyler Goodson, who was a gunner, gone to the Falcons. Also, let's see who else, Shagoo Alubi. Yeah. Core special teamer, Rodney Thomas, core special teamer. This draft class, really the only guy who isn't a special teamer was Seth McGowan. Caden Curry, Bryce Betcher, those guys averaged about 150 special team snaps per year. So those are core guys. Halsey and
Starting point is 00:31:19 Halsey and Alan even about 85 to 90 special team snaps per year. Alan not going to do it probably, I'm sure. Maybe not Halsey either. But even Gums, a defensive end, 75 snaps per year. Berks, 46 and a half. And Farmer was a guy on field goal block, obviously. So 32 a year. So every guy they picked, except for McGowan has got a lot of special teams utility.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Yeah, no, for sure. So we'll see how much that comes into play. And also how some of these undrafted free agents can maybe fight for a spot a la Trevor Denbo or Ashton Doolin back in 2019 who have been able to win roster spots because of their ability on special teams. So we'll see how that plays out in training camp. But thank you all for tuning into Lockdown Colts today. We'll be back yet again tomorrow.
