You are Locked On Colts, your daily Indianapolis Colts podcast.
Part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day.
Hello everybody, welcome back to today's episode of Locked On Colts, part of the Locked On Podcast Network.
Today's always your host, Evan Sedry, joined by Stephen Reed of Stampede Blue.
Stephen's going to be on the rest of the week now, guys.
I'm really excited about that because I know you guys love when we're both on here together just chit-chatting away about the Colts.
And Stephen, I think we're around 24 hours away from this time, probably when the Colts are making their pick tomorrow night on the clock at 21 overall.
The question is, do they stay there?
But for today's episode, we're going to be having double podcasts the next few days. Colts are making their pick tomorrow night on the clock at 21 overall. The question is, do they stay there?
But for today's episode, we're going to be having double podcasts next few days.
Stephen's going to be on tomorrow night for our live reaction after the 21st pick or whatever happens at the 21st pick.
But in the meantime, you'll be hearing Stephen and I discuss today
our probably the most realistic guys on the board from the 21.
They'll also discuss tradebacks.
And then you'll hear a mock draft from me tomorrow morning.
And we'll get some insight mock draft from me tomorrow morning.
And we'll get some insight as well from Kevin Bowe and hopefully,
as well as the Indy Star duo of Joel A. Erickson and Jim Aiello who give their predictions for the draft tomorrow.
But, Stephen, how are you doing today?
We're around 24 hours away from now when the Colts are probably on the clock.
Hey, Evan.
I'm doing great today.
As with everybody else right now, I'm super excited that we're about 24 hours away
until we find out that the Colts don't even pick tomorrow,
and we'll be waiting until Friday.
Of course, I kid, but that might really happen.
I'm super excited, though, just that it's here,
and you're going to see player selections made,
and you're going to be able to, you know, we're going to find out, you know, hopefully tomorrow night that we've got a new Colt.
And so I think as a fan, you get really excited for any of this whenever it comes around.
Yeah, and especially here, we're going to be talking about this, like I mentioned, at the end of the show.
Before we dive into the prospects who make sense, just with the way that things have shaken out the last 24, 48 hours,
still reading all the mock drafts from plugged-in insiders,
seeing movement, who wants to trade up,
who's maybe willing to move back a little bit.
It seems like just from all the rumors we've mentioned,
like yesterday with Travis Etienne at the Buffalo Bills,
now in Daniel Jeremiah's new mock draft today,
Etienne's going into the top 25, so that could be a team to watch out for.
Ian Rappaport has continuously mentioned in the last couple of days
in New Orleans Saints probably one of the more aggressive teams in trading up.
They want to get ahead of the Tennessee Titans at
22 for a corner. Maybe Greg Newsome
or Caleb Farley and Colts are in, I think
very good shape for a student to recoup some of that value.
I imagine if someone slips
through the cracks like a Quidipe, which seems
very unlikely at this point just with his stock, it seems like
his floor now is probably 18 to Miami.
I really think unless
one of those guys slips like Quidipe,
I think the Colts are in a good position here to trade back and recoup some value.
Yeah, the running joke is that if one of the whales slip,
then that's the only way that the Colts don't trade back.
And for me, the whale is Devontae Smith, which is ironic
because he's the smallest player almost in this entire draft.
But if one of those guys don't slip, whether it's Devonta Smith
or Quidipe, I think it's about as much of a lock as we can put on it that the Colts are trading
back. Assuming that they've got somebody that wants to trade up and from the sounds of it,
it sounds like Buffalo is trying to target Travis Etien, and they're trying to get in front of the New York Jets, the Pittsburgh Steelers,
and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
So probably not even there.
Probably not going to be able to let Atien slip past all those guys
to have them there for Buffalo.
So they're going to have to make a move.
And then the rumor today about the New Orleans Saints wanting to come up and get in front of Tennessee Titans. Well,
who happens to be sitting right there in front of the Tennessee Titans, but the Indianapolis Colts.
And they've, the Saints have been very aggressive to put it lightly with their draft picks. They're
not quite to the Rams level of tossing them out to anybody but they are really
aggressive and so I wouldn't be surprised to see them give up quite a bit to get up to 21 to just
to get in front of Tennessee so they can get the corner that they like it's gonna be fun to watch
we're gonna dive in later on the show talk about some prospects who may be fit in that late first
early second round range of the Colts do trade back. But in the meantime, like I mentioned, I was reading some mock drafts today from very plug-in guys.
I forget what the exact database is called for the mock draft accuracy,
but guys like Daniel Jeremiah, Benjamin Albury put out his only mock draft today at PFN,
Evan Silva over establishing the run.
They do very in-depth, very source-dialed and mock drafts right before they happen for the draft.
Based off those readings, Stephen, I came up with a list here of guys who probably are going to be there for the Colts at 21.
A very good chance, I would say, just based off intel from guys like Jeremiah and Albright.
Just real quickly, just for those wondering out there who might not make it, just from what I've seen today,
this is a guy we've been covering on the show for months now, Stephen, just because I think he's a perfect fit on and off the field.
There's no question about his effort or his character or anything along those lines.
But like I just mentioned, Quiddie Paye out of Michigan.
It seems like Stephen is a player who's not going to be there at 21.
This floor looks like it's going to be 18 to Miami.
I've seen as high as today, 11 to the Giants.
I've seen as well a couple in that 15-16 range too.
It seems like to me Quiddie Paye, he's even got some noise in Philadelphia at 12 that he's not going to be there at 21 and like
you mentioned the wideouts Devontae Smith I've seen slipping down a little bit on boards I think
the latest I saw him go today was 16 of the Cardinals it's pretty much his four at this point
so I'd be shocked if he gets any further than that but other guys like like Zayven Collins or
Jeremiah Wusakoromo,
linebackers might not make a lot of sense there,
but they're going to be off the board by then.
Elijah Veritucker out of USC, a swing guard tackle,
probably off the board.
It seems like consensus he's going to be a top 15, top 17 pick.
From there, though, Stephen, it gets really interesting
because reading Jeremiah, Albright, and others' mock drafts today
and just really aggregating all those together to see who has a realistic chance
of being there for the Colts at 21.
It was intriguing because a couple guys here, we want to start this off
with just going down the board here.
If the Colts do stay at 21, I think these guys make a lot of sense
as far as BPA goes and positional value.
Let's start off with left tackle and edge rusher,
the top two guys here on the list.
It seems like there's a good chance they might be there.
Jalen Phillips out of Miami, there is an injury concern with him.
Obviously concussions, character issues in the past with UCLA.
He did very well in Miami this past year, but those questions still loom.
And surprisingly enough, Christian Derusaw went 25 to the Jacksonville Jaguars
in Daniel Jeremiah's mock draft.
DJ also dropped down Derusaw around 20 to 30 spots on his big board.
I believe he's around 36 overall on Jeremiah's big board now.
So maybe a guy we haven't talked about in a while on the show, Stephen,
and Christian Darisal could be falling in the Colts' lap.
You're almost saying Andy Costando did in 2011 for the Colts,
if he were to slip.
Yeah, Christian Darisal has been a guy that we've been pretty on top of
being kind of a perfect fit for the Colts offensive line.
It's one of those dream scenarios for Chris Ballard,
but even then, I'm not sure he takes him.
It's just such a weird thing to see a guy like that slide as much as he had,
at least in terms of projections with these guys that are really, really clued in.
And that's, again, what we have to kind of focus on.
I know with my own personal mock draft that I'll put out tomorrow,
I'm just going to post it on Twitter.
But I've got Quidipe, somebody that we've talked about quite a bit.
Quidipe was the guy that I chose for the Colts in the Sirius XM,
NFL, moving the chains mock draft when they let me make that selection for the Colts.
I've gotten going to New England at 15. And that's in in my mock draft. It's,
it's one of those things where I just don't see him getting to 21. And if he does, like, that's a that's a guy that I see Chris
Ballard taking without without hesitation. But yeah, that all the other all the other players
that mentioned it's not somebody that outside of Derrissaw, none of those guys really like
screamed to me, yes, I have to have him um and with the fact that Derisaw
seems to be sliding down the board it makes you wonder whether there is some kind of medical or
behind the scenes issue that we as fans we're not privy to that information and so you just kind of
have to guess uh but you know Daniel Jeremiah Ben Albright you, all these guys are really well plugged in. And so it makes me wonder whether there is some other thing going on that,
that we just don't know.
And we will never give that information prior to tomorrow.
Yeah. And that's a really fair point to watch.
I'm really curious to see if Darasol does slip, let's say,
by the Washington football team at 19.
I've seen his four be there in a lot of mock drafts.
He's going to probably be on the board at 21. That's going to be a big question for the Colts. Like, Derisaw on the field, he's a top 15 prospect in this draft class,
in my opinion. Just really solid in pass protection and run protection. Very high
upside player. Has some technique issues, but in this offensive line next to Quentin Nelson,
that'd be a road-gritting unit for sure. But between those two guys, Stephen, between Phillips and Darasol,
if they're both on the board, let's say, at 21,
Phillips is sliding due to medical character concerns.
Darasol just slides down there because it seems like Elijah Vera Tucker,
across all sites that I've read for accuracy,
he seemed to have lead for Darasol at this point for the offensive tackle spot
right behind Slater and Sewell.
So it seems like Darasol is now offensive tackle four. So
if only three go in the first top 20 picks, Derrissaw could be there for him. Who do you
lean if they're both in the border between Phillips and Derrissaw? I personally, just based
off our history of Chris Bauer and knowing his history, I'd probably lean Derrissaw there.
I agree with you. I lean Derrissaw and just Jalen Phillips. There's, there's always been something about him.
Like we've talked about the talent.
We've talked about everything else.
There's just something that I look at and I go, okay, well,
does he really love it?
Does he love football?
And so it's one of those things where we,
I don't know if anybody else has listened to with the next pick. Um, but one part that they
talked about was a, a player, and we don't know who this is, but a player being super productive,
um, or having all the traits and they're talking themselves into it because of what could be,
um, kind of thing. I'm paraphrasing here. Um, and one of the scouts goes, you know,
the thing is every time we do this and
we talk ourselves into somebody like this, we always end up regretting it. And it makes me
wonder whether this is kind of it for Phillips. Now the injury stuff I get, you know, he's had
concussions to where I think he had two or three concussions, which UCLA has a requirement that once you get two to three concussions, you are retired from sports for UCLA.
And he had an ankle injury, I think, and a wrist surgery at some point.
And now the last time he was injured and missed time due to injury was 2018.
So that was a while ago.
He hasn't had any major injuries since then.
So I wouldn't necessarily count that against him.
But that all being said, I feel more comfortable.
If I'm not able to move back from 21, I feel much more comfortable taking Christian Derrissaw
because I know what I'm going to get with him.
Or I feel like I know what I'm going to get with him.
And I feel a lot better about Christian Derrissaw and being the left tackle there, the future for the Colts,
over taking kind of what I think might be a gamble with Jalen Phillips,
because you don't know whether his injury history is going to make it.
You don't know whether he's going to have other issues.
I know he had a rap career at one point, which a lot of players have
and a lot of players go for.
But, again, I feel like I feel more – I just feel more comfortable with Derrissaw.
He fits everything that the Colts look for in terms of athleticism.
He's got 34-inch arms, which is one of those magic number requirements
that Chris Ballard really likes for offensive tackles.
And I thought it was interesting because in Chris Ballard's press conference,
he talked about Braden Smith and how Braden Smith,
if anybody doesn't know this, he's the only starting tackle in the NFL,
I think, that has 33 inch arms um and Chris Ballard made the comment in the press conference and something that I've said
multiple times in multiple different outlets Braden Smith wasn't drafted to be a right tackle
he was drafted to be a guard and it just so happens that they put him in at right tackle
against New England and he did well and they kept him there and now he's obviously flourishing and so props to the scouts that pushed Chris
Ballard to to leave him there at right tackle and said hey look I think he can play it um but there
are still certain measurements that Chris Ballard really likes for these positions and Derrissaw has
those long arms he's able to get he's's athletic enough in pass protection and able to get out in front of guys in
run blocking that I wouldn't be surprised that if the Colts do decide
to stay at 21 and Christian Beresaw is sitting there just staring at them on the board
that he's the guy to go with. Yeah, like I mentioned, it really reminds
me of 2011 Andy Costanzo, a consensus top 15-20 guy, slips
down the board just due to positional
value and other teams moving up and down the board and they end up getting Costanzo at 20
22 overall if the same thing happens to Daris I think just based off trades and positional value
why he slips down the board a little bit if Daniel Jeremiah's mock happens he's there at 21 I'd race
up the card for him just based off like you mentioned I think he's a plug and play guy for
the next decade next to Quentin Nelson that's just a amazing fortifying of the offensive line if they were to do that. I love Darisaw's
speech on the show before as well, Stephen. But let's dive in to, I think, arguably outside
of Phillips and Darisaw. Obviously, Phillips is the huge question
character-wise and injury-wise. Darisaw might just still be the positional needs,
but I think, honestly, the guy who could be the best player available for the Colts and the
board, if they are locked in on staying at 21,
I think Greg Newsom someone should talk about more, Steve,
because we talked about him on the podcast I think last month or so
for a few minutes, but outside of that really not much
just because cornerback hasn't been a huge need for them.
Recently, though, with Jim Irsay's comments, I think it's fair to say
we should start eyeing that a little bit more earlier in the draft.
But, yeah, Xavier Reds back in a one-year deal. You re-signed TJ Carey to a one-year
deal. Marvell Tell is back mopping out a huge year three for Rocky since they do have depth here on
the board, Steven. But I think just someone to watch out for here that just checks every box
for the Colts off the field as far as character goes and on the field just with the way he played.
I think Greg Newsome outside of Darryl Saul and outside of Phillips,
and let's say the guys at Quidipay and them are off the board,
I think if they do stay at 21, I think Greg Newsome is going to be
in serious, serious consideration for them.
And Newsome, he's got that speed and athleticism and the intelligence
to be able to excel really in the Colts system.
So I wouldn't be shocked if they went after him. Another guy to
consider is one that is falling down, down boards because of medical concerns is Caleb Farley.
I've seen him available in a couple of different mock drafts. I'll go back to Newsom here real
quick, but he's, he's got experience in those zone, zone concepts that the Colts like to run. So he'll
be able to come in, step in right away and be able to play. One of the interesting things I saw,
and I forget who put this out, but it talked about top 20 or top players at a position in
the given round that they're taken. And one of the highest in terms of
basically having a top player is cornerback. There's a cornerback left tackle and edge rusher.
If you don't take one in the first round, then the likelihood of them being successful
is it drops pretty significantly. And so I just thought that was just a really interesting stat,
and I need to go back to see how they broke down
what they considered successful.
But Newsom has got those long arms.
He's got good ball skills.
He makes a lot of sense for the Colts,
and especially given Jim Irsay's comments
several times over the course of the year.
And not only that, but Chris Ballard, when he was asked about edge rushers,
he brought up the importance of giving the youth a chance to play,
the importance of giving Taekwon a chance, and Kimoko Ture,
and getting him healthy and giving
him a chance and Ben Bannego and how big it was for him. When he was asked about the corners,
it wasn't something that he really got in super long, into depth into. And so it makes me wonder
if that's a position that they might try to target early. And Chris Ballard knows the numbers.
He knows that if you want a top cornerback,
you've got to take one early. You can't just keep plugging late round guys in. You can, but
something's got to give at some point. So Newsom makes a lot of sense. And quite honestly,
Caleb Farley makes a lot of sense if the medicals check out. If not for his back surgeries, he's probably the top corner in this draft and is
probably the one that goes off the board first, probably the top 10 pick. So you got two corners
right there that could be looking at Colts in the face at 21 if they don't want to move back and
they feel comfortable. I'd be fine with either corner, really. This episode is brought to you

meshes and data rates may apply yeah and i think it's fair to say this really quickly on new some
like the scheme at northwestern plate is so identical to the colts they played so much heavy
zone in that scheme something could be just a plug-and-play fit for Newsome
where there wouldn't really be an adjustment period.
Caleb Farley at Virginia Tech, obviously the huge question with his back.
I have no clue if the Colts even clear him at this point.
It seems like based off the mock drafts that I've been reading today,
he's probably going to be outside round one at this point,
unless a team like New Orleans clears him and they trade up to go get him
or something like that.
But it seems like Farley's still being on the board,
so if the Colts do trade back, they probably could still be able to get him or something like that. But it seems like Farley's slipping on the board. So if the Colts do trade back,
they probably could still be able to get him if they want to.
But Farley, like I mentioned, just a huge athletic freak.
Like he's six foot two, long arms.
Actually a new corner.
He was actually a wide receiver for Virginia Tech a couple years ago being
recruited there.
Then he switched to cornerback and he's made a lot of money in the process of
doing that.
But with Greg Newsome, ironically enough, Stephen,
one of his top comparables on mock draftable for spiderweb is Marcus Peters and as you guys all
know Marcus Peters was a first round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2015 Chris Bauer was second
in command in Kansas City around then and Bauer actually played a huge role in the Marcus Peters
draft pick because he went and visited Peters he cleared his character for the Chiefs and he went
on to have multi allall-pro seasons.
It would not shock me at all, just based off the athletic comparison,
that Greg Newsom – I would not be shocked if Chris Barrett sees Greg Newsom
as a cleaner version off the field of a Marcus Peters.
And if that's the case, a multi-all-pro corner,
I think he's going to be in very serious consideration for them.
Let's say those edge rushers and a couple of left tackles go off the board
and positional value BPA need-wise, then Newsom's just their guy.
Yeah, he makes a lot of sense, honestly.
I don't know how much more I can add to that.
You said it pretty succinctly, and I kind of rambled about it a minute ago.
He makes a lot of sense.
He's got experience in a similar system.
He's got all the measurables that the Colts look for,
and he fits into that locker room.
And they, again, and with the next pick, talked about the locker room
and talked about how important that is.
And even though there are guys that could come
in and maybe don't fit and that they could try to assimilate them in and talked about the veteran
leaders and how they could bring them up. Greg Newsome is not a guy you have to worry about that
way. And that's one of the, I think one of the biggest things for the Colts in terms of whoever
they bring in the draft, because they want to bring in guys that they can go in and not have to worry
about and that they can bring in and have them be self-sufficient and work
hard and they don't have to worry about it. And, you know,
they're going to take the coaching.
That's one of the random things that i think might be dragging uh christian derisaw down is is a lack of coaching or the maybe a you
know inability to be coached because you you see like um lance zirline with nfl.com talk about
like the negative things about different prospects and a couple of those things that he brings up
with christian derisaw are those like random things really. Well, that's a coaching thing.
Like, is he willing to be coached?
You don't have to worry about what you're carrying Newsom.
And I don't think you have to worry about that with Caleb Farley either.
I think both those guys are just very self-motivated that want to be the best
and will work hard to be the best.
I think Farley, the one thing with him,
I think he just got diagnosed with COVID.
Is that what he put out a statement today that he wasn't going to be able to be at the draft?
Yeah, that's right.
He's not going to be at the draft anymore.
Okay, yeah.
So, and that's right. He's not gonna be at the draft anymore. Okay. Yeah. So,
and that's neither here nor there,
but it's just interesting because he's got all these other medical things.
It's kind of like the,
um,
the Laramie Tunsil thing where it's something that's unrelated.
Um,
maybe not quite like Laramie Tunsil thing.
Cause that was a bit more serious.
Um,
but anyway, it's just interesting because Farley's got such great, you know, got some great potential.
And my mind's just kind of racing trying to figure out who the Colts are talking about on the With Next Pick episode.
And one guy I know they weren't talking about was Greg Newsome because he's a great player and would
fit perfectly with them and then their system another guy let's go move on here to the next
one in this BPA rung of players who in that 20 to mid-20s range early 20s range that could be
staring in the face at 21 now it seems like there's a very good chance now after some early buzz with
him with boards and after he really blew up his pro day. Tevin Jenkins is kind of settling into that Colts range.
I've seen him around 20 to 24.
Daniel Jeremiah actually has him going.
Let me check here.
Double check on that.
Ben Albright has him going 23 to New York jets.
And then Daniel Jeremiah isn't going 24 to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
So Tevin Jenkins is a really interesting guy.
He could slide in and be a day one,
right tackle.
But for the Colts point of view, he had to switch to the left side.
And what makes me have some pause about Tevin Jenkins
and why he could be a really legitimate candidate for the Colts
is because Chris Dyer in his press conference last week
mentioned Jedrick Wills, and that wasn't out of nowhere.
When you talk about moving out from the right side to the left side,
the Cleveland Browns actually drafted Jedrick Wills last year,
a former right tackle at Alabama, blindside for Tua Tagovailoa as a left-handed thrower.
They moved him back over to the left side. He was a pro bowler last year in his rookie year
for the Cleveland Browns, helped solidify the offensive line, has a nasty streak, very long
arms too, very athletic. And you also see a guy like Tevin Jenkins, who's at almost 6'6", 6'5", 7'8", 320 pounds,
adequate arm length and wingspan, hits that 33-inch arm length threshold for the Colts.
And as well, he ran a very fast 40, 90th percentile in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump,
and a 97th percentile bench press. You know the Colts love their strong offense alignment too.
I think if the Colts view Tevin Jenkins as a guy who could switch to the left side, which he has played in the past for Oklahoma State before he settled on
the right side, Steven, I think Tevin Jenkins, if Darisaw's off the board there, I think he could
be one for sure if they do stay put at 21. They don't like the trade offers they get, that they
could see Tevin Jenkins as a guy like Jeter Wills who could really, he's a mean, nasty guy. Him and
Quentin Nelson would be just incredible on the left side of the watch
just opening up run lanes because those guys would just be taking pancakes
back and forth from each other.
But I think Jenkins is one to seriously watch out for,
especially if guys like Darryl Saul and Jalen Phillips
and Quitty Paye are off the board.
Yeah, then Jenkins makes a ton of sense, like you said.
And I was going to bring it up if you didn't.
Chris Ballard in that press conference talked about, you know,
specifically Jedrick Wills and moving from right tackle to left tackle
and talked about the athleticism that you would need to do that.
Tevin Jenkins really fits that mold.
And he's got that power.
He's got the strong hands.
And that was something that i thought was interesting because i think he talked about um you know having offensive linemen with
strength um so there are certain things that you know certain drills that we talk about that guys
do and you kind of take it into importance uh you know with explosiveness, you look at the jumps for any athlete, really.
And then for the edge rusher, you did three cone,
and that was your big one there.
For offensive linemen, bench press does matter.
You have to be at least adequate, and if you're not,
then people are asking, okay, what was your training?
Tevin Jenkins is excellent in terms of upper body power um he's super strong and it would just be so much
fun to watch him and quentin nelson just absolutely bury the left side of a line
and be able to just open up gaping holes for Jonathan Taylor to run,
run through.
And it would just be so much fun to see that.
And there'd be a lot of, of defensive backs after they just placed the,
those first defenders,
either the tackle or the,
the end.
And a lot of defensive backs would be making some business decisions to get
out of either Quentin Nelson or Tevin Jenkins way in that scenario. Yeah, it's gonna be really interesting to see what happens on tomorrow
night on draft night when the Colts are on the clock at 21. If Tevin Jenkins is someone that's
there and guys like Garrett Tucker, Darryl Saul are off the board left tackle. Jenkins is probably
the BPA left office tackle at that point of the draft. And if the Colts are locked in on Tevin
Jenkins, we do know Anthony Coughlin, one of their lead scouting directors Southwest Scout was following
Tevin Jenkins around through multiple drills on this pro day they've been in contact with Tevin
Jenkins multiple times through the zoom process so I think this guy is gonna be in serious
consideration for the Colts at 21 if they do stay there but a couple other guys here Steve before
we get into our last part of the show talk about some tradeback options just based off what I've read today.
I think a couple guys to watch out for if we're staying at edge rusher is Joe Tryon and Jason Owe.
Those two guys, it seems like they're settling into that
mid to late first round range.
So the Colts do stay put at 21 and just decide to go for the best edge rusher.
It seems like Owe and Tryon are kind of settling in as those guys,
even above like an Aziz Ojolari,
who's slipping down boards are not good at medical concerns yeah Tryon's really kind of come up more recently than at least for those of us in
the draft community those you know within the NFL probably always had him really high, so we're just trying to play catch-up right now. Tryon, he really – he's got such, like, elite traits.
And his tape from back, you know, two years ago, the last time he played,
was really, really good.
And so he fits the athletic profile that the Coltsts really look for that Chris Ballard really looks
for he's got the length he's got the athleticism um he's got your pretty good play strength and
he's able to bend and get around the edge and so he would make a ton of sense for the Colts um
especially if they were able to drop back a little bit in the draft and and drop back a little bit
in the first round but he's been climbing up boards i was hoping i was hoping they could steal him in the second round
but it doesn't look like that's going to be the case anymore um aziz ojolari i'm surprised with
how he's kind of kind of slipped down boards um and with but the medicals, again, it's something that we don't know, uh, being on
the outside, uh, outside of the NFL franchises, we, we just don't know what the medicals are.
Um, and so it could be something that's a little bit more concerning than what anybody
else thought.
Uh, Jason Elway, Jason Elway very well could be the, one of the players of the, the culture
talking about with, with the next pick where they talk themselves into players.
Because Jason Elway has a kind of perfect, in terms of body,
that you look for in terms of explosiveness and length and everything,
but he has no production.
And you go, well, how? Like, how could you be that explosive, that long, that big,
and not have any production?
And so it's a conundrum to me about O.A., and it's something that we've talked about before with it.
It's just I don't know what to make of him at this point.
If the Colts really believe they can coach him up
and they can tap into that just elite athleticism, then he's a great pick.
But that's a big if.
And in the first round, you don't like to take ifs.
Yeah, that is the thing, especially.
But no way, like from a Colts perspective, like you just mentioned, Stephen,
from just a Colts perspective as far as the way they scout edge rushers,
he's like a perfect fit for them as far as like what they look for.
The super long arms, the super bend, the super twitch.
Like he fits everything they look for.
He's like a souped-up version of Bandigo and Ture.
But, yeah, like the production thing is a little worrisome to me.
I wonder if they can coach him, like get him with Ibraflux and Brian Baker,
and he could go off on Robert Mathis.
But, man, it is a big debate in my mind.
I think Owe is probably one of the lower guys on my board as far as if he's
there at 21 to lean with.
Maybe if you feel comfortable enough to trade back a couple spots
and recoup some picks.
Maybe you feel more comfortable taking Owe in the late first round.
But, yeah, he's certainly one to watch out for.
I'd probably put him in the lower tier with Joe Tryon.
I think it's interesting, though, Stephen, with Joe Tryon,
the Washington edge rusher, that Daniel Jeremiah mocked him
to the Colts today at 21, even above guys like Darisol
and also Tevin Jenkins and all these left tackles and pass rushers.
He went ahead to Owe and Ogilarary as well in his final mock draft.
I wonder if Joe Tryon's the one that the opt-out that is really rising up
boards because, like you mentioned, he has all the athleticism.
He has the production, too, on his tape last year.
Chris McGaha, the Colts West Coast scout,
was actually running Joe Tryon's pro day.
So there has to be some interest from the Colts side of things.
And I've also read a lot of things like that maybe Tron's floor is 23 at the Jets now.
The Colts obviously do have some legitimate interest, it seems like, with Chris McGaha
running his pro day, Steven.
I think Tron's a guy like a sleeper one to watch out for, like out of left field, like
Jonathan Taylor picked last year, like Triumph for a running back.
I would not be shocked if Tron's their pick at 21 just based off the the shock factor of it but also just him checking off the box I know he's an opt-out last
year but I've read like his character is sky high at Washington yeah Triumph makes a lot of sense
again we've I feel like you keep saying that um about these guys that the the Colts have a very
limited like skill set that they look for.
And, you know, we talked about Greg Newsome.
Now we're talking about Joe Tryon.
The character is, like you said, sky high.
He's got all the athletic traits.
He's a perfect fit for this defense.
And it just seems like we're now all catching up to what they think,
what all the NFL teams have known to this point.
And it's just interesting because like you said,
McGaha was the one who ran his pro day.
Also there is on with the next pick, there is, you know,
the discussion with McGaha and about how, you know,
they took four of his guys last year from the West coast.
And Ed Dodds, you know, kind of ribbed him for,
for little things here or there,
but it's just interesting because trying is such a,
he's such a perfect fit for this, this defense.
It wouldn't surprise me if they took him at 21. I, I,
I really think that he's, he's an option for
them to, you know, trade back with, you know, say New Orleans or Buffalo and try to get him at the
end of the end of the first round. Um, now the only hesitation, the only hesitation I have with
any of these addressers is Chris Ballard's comments from his press
conference where he's talked about not trying to force the pick. And so they're going to take the
best guy that they can, regardless of position. Now, if that happens to be edged, then that's
great. That's what they'll take. But he also made comments about giving the defensive
end, the un-defensive ends a chance. So that's really kind of my biggest hesitation about
taking anybody that's not in Quidipe at 21, because Quidipe to me is one of those
potential difference makers that Chris Fowler talked about, the five to six difference makers,
and probably the only one that I think might be on defense. Um, and so I don't think that they're going to force it there at 21.
Um, but if they took Joe try on him again, he makes a ton of sense for them. So with the depth
that the left tackle position, I don't think that they're going to force taking a left tackle early.
Um, if they've got just a ton on the board that they really, really like.
And so I could see them going there, Joe trying out at the edge position.

Let's move on to the final part of our show now, Stephen.
Talking into some possible trade back guys based off what we've been reading
so far in national media today for who could be sliding,
who's probably going where and what range.
Looks like here you can probably throw Caleb Farley in this mix as well,
just based off him probably sliding out of round one at this point
due to his injury.
But the tradeback guys that made sense to me after reading all these mock
drafts today, and especially Daniel Jeremiah,
who mentioned in his story under the Panay Sewell blurb what the Cincinnati Bengals' ace here,
and there's going to be a really big run of offense tackles
in the late parts of round one.
So that could mean the Colts are a team that could trade back from 21
and draft one of these guys in that 28 to 30 range.
And two guys who sneak into Jeremiah's mock,
who the Colts we know have legitimate interest in,
who I think are rising up boards now and probably be in that late first,
early second round range. Dylan Radin's out in North Dakota state,
the Colts area scout, Chad Henry, I believe was his name,
was at his pro day. And then as well, we all know Liam Eikenberg's pro day.
Ballard was there, Frank Reich, Kevin Rogers,
the whole crew pretty much is in South Bend for that one.
Jeremiah had him Eikenberg going 31 to the Baltimore Ravens,
and he had Dylan Radins going 29 overall to the Green Bay Packers.
I think those two guys, especially in that 28 to 30 range team,
just right where those guys went, let's say they moved back with 28 to New Orleans.
They moved for Caleb Farley or Greg Newsome, one of those other guys.
Or if they moved back to 30 and the Bills move up and get Travis Etienne,
for example,
I think just based off the intel from Jeremiah and also Ben Albright and these
guys, it's, you know, the, the consensus, like number five,
number six offense tackles in this class are Dylan Radins and Liam Eikenberg.
And if they do move back, those can be two guys to watch out for there.
Yeah. Radins makes a lot of sense there for the Colts. He's got
the experience on the left side. He's got the athletic profile that they look for, and he's got
those long arms that the Colts really like in terms of their left tackle position. Eichenberg
is limited, more so athletically. He's got shorter arms, uh, too.
So that that's the big concern with Eichenberg more than anything else. Um,
he's just steady, but it's the same thing we talked about with,
with Anthony Costanzo is why Anthony Costanzo got overlooked for years and years and years. He was a top five left tackle in the NFL,
but he never got the recognition because he was just steady. Anyway,
he wasn't
flash. He didn't make big, huge blocks. He just made every block. Now, I think the Colts are going
to go with a, you know,
late in round one after a tradeback,
because that means they're probably after a tradeback,
probably picking up an extra third round pick,
maybe even an extra second round pick.
If it's, you know, you're dropping back with Buffalo
in that situation. And with how loose New Orleans has been with their draft picks, you might be able
to get, you know, 28 and 60 or whatever the number is for New Orleans for their second round pick.
I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen if they're able to do that. Chris Ballard would be
just over the moon because he's going to be able to get his
offensive tackle. He's going to be able to probably get a corner if he wants it. He's
going to have a lot more options open to him there with that extra second round pick or even
extra third round pick. It just gives him so many more options. And like Chris Ballard talked about,
if he gets more darts at the board,
more opportunities to be lucky, he's able to go ahead and get some –
you get some extra hits.
And if you can put them in play, you never know.
Last one here for you, Steve.
I appreciate the time, as always, running through today.
I don't know if you have any back on the rest of the week here
for our live reactions.
But before – probably at this point we do know who the
Colts are picking if they stay at 21 here on draft night it's around 10 30 11 o'clock eastern time on
Wednesday night I think honestly Steven just for my prediction I'm leaning more towards the Colts
at this point trading back to that 28 to 30 range like Those three teams, 28-30, which is the Saints, the Packers,
and the Buffalo Bills, three teams known to be very aggressive.
I think one of those teams moves up for whoever it may be.
The Colts move back around seven to nine spots,
get a third-round pick or two, maybe even a future pick on top of that.
I think we're going to see the Colts stay in the first round of Marist team,
but I think they're probably going to trade back in the process. What is your prediction
for what the Colts are going to be doing at 21 to Maronette?
I think they're going to trade back, unless if one of those two,
unless if Devontae Smith somehow falls to them at 21,
which I don't see happening. I've seen him mocked as low as
16 to Arizona, so it could happen.
It's five picks in between, but it'd just be hard for me to see it.
Or Kuti Pei is there at 21.
I think the Colts look to take him.
But outside of those two, I see the Colts dropping back.
I see them trading back, like you said, between 28 to 30.
And then seeing what's available to them, if they like what's available, I could see them trading back again
and dropping back to Philadelphia they've traded with,
New York Jets they've traded with before.
I just see the Colts trying to make moves and recoup some extra picks
in this year's draft and potentially some picks in the next year's draft.
I think Chris Ballard is really hoping to move back with, you know,
New Orleans, Green Bay,
or Buffalo and picking up their second round pick to drop back those eight or
nine spots. Because, you know, if you're Buffalo,
you're trying to get up in front of, like I mentioned earlier, the Jets,
Pittsburgh, Jacksonville that are trying to get a running back.
If you're New Orleans,
you're trying to get in front of Tennessee to get your corner. If you're Green Bay, you want to try to get up
in front of potentially Tennessee or Baltimore or Cleveland to get a wide receiver
or a corner for that matter in Green Bay. There's just so many teams that I think are going to try to get up in front of teams from 22 to 26.
Then I just don't see the Colts staying put at 21.
I see them dropping back,
picking up an extra second or third round pick and then potentially dropping
back again and picking up a future pick.
Yeah.
Quite honestly,
like the guys we didn't mention on the pod who have been frequent connectors to the colts alex leatherwood sam cosme it seems like those guys could be available maybe
in the mid late second round just based off the intel i've been reading and from guys like daniel
jeremiah like we could see the colts trade back like multiple times and probably get a future
pick plus like two or three more day two picks like that wouldn't be shocking at all to see but
steve we're gonna be reacting to all this happening live right after the Colts
selection,
whenever that may be.
If they do stay put at 21,
I'm going to be with you guys,
or if we do a trade back,
we're going to still be reacting to what they end up getting in the hall and
picking it on Friday.
But in the meantime,
Colts fans go ahead and follow Steven on Twitter.
