Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - AFC SOUTH POSITION RANKINGS: Cam Ward THIRD BEST QB, Set for TOP SPOT, Low End Weapons & O-Line Jump
Episode Date: June 22, 2025RANKING AFC SOUTH POSITION GROUP: Cam Ward would rank third among the starting quarterbacks in the AFC South going into the season if you are being realistic, but it is not unrealistic to think that W...ard could be the top quarterback in the division by the end of the season. It will be difficult though as Ward has the worst group of wide receivers to throw to in the division and it is not particularly close. However, the improvements the Titans have made on the offensive line could set Ward up to have some of the finest protection in the division! Cam Ward can be the best quarterback in the division by the end of the season, but right
now I have him at third.

But with that being said, I have Kim Ward is the third best quarterback in the
division right now.
And I know that a lot of you are immediately going to reject that idea and say he's at minimum second, he's already the best quarterback in the division and look
I just try to have a semblance of realism here.
CJ Stroud has won a playoff game in back to back seasons.
Okay?
I know that he struggled last year in his second season but he led his team to the playoffs.
He's still a pretty dang good player.
I would have CJ Stroud is at minimum a top 12 player,
and I'm probably going to put CJ Stroud top 10
in any of my own personal list.
Trevor Lawrence is really where people will start to get angry.
I get it.
I'm sitting here saying that right now,
if you're ranking the quarterbacks in the ASE South,
you cannot put Kim Ward over Trevor Lawrence.
Again, another guy who's won a playoff game, had some real success in the ASC South, you cannot put Kim Ward over Trevor Lawrence. Again, another guy
who's won a playoff game, had some real success in the NFL. The conversation around Trevor Lawrence
is always going to be tainted though, because he has not lived up to the expectations. There's no
other way around it. He has not lived up to the expectations of being the number one overall pick,
and I admit when he was coming out of Clemson,
I was like, man, I'm so salty that the Jags get Trevor Lawrence.
And the conversation around Trevor Lawrence
is even more toxic, not just because he hasn't lived up
to the expectations of what people thought of him,
but because people won't let it go either.
They won't let it go either that he's not maybe that guy
that you thought he was. He's not that good of a quarterback. He's more inconsistent and now they're doing it again. Anybody who liked Trevor Lawrence pre-draft refuses to admit that they were wrong about Trevor Lawrence from the pre-draft evaluation. Now he's got Liam Cohen as his head coach. That's an offensive guy who, you know, has gotten the best out of certain quarterbacks here and there. Buck's offense was great.
Made Will Levis look like a good player at Kentucky.
Liam Cohen is going to get the best out of Trevor Lawrence and turn him
into the player that I thought he was going to be when he was drafted.
Well, I guess I have learned to let that go.
Trevor Lawrence is never going to be Joe Burrow in my opinion.
He's never going to be on that level.
Okay? And that's the level I thought he could be on.
I know it was before Joe Burrow, but regardless, that's the point.
Or after Joe Burrow. Oh, 2021. Yeah, after. Okay.
That's the point, though, is you can look at Trevor Lawrence
and admit that he's not necessarily the player that people think that he is
or people thought that he was going to be, but Trevor Lawrence is still a pretty good quarterback.
He's a tier three quarterback. He's a solid starter.
And like if Cam Ward is as good as Trevor Lawrence as a rookie,
Cam Ward has had an awesome rookie year.
You know, like not Trevor Lawrence's rookie year.
I'm saying if Cam Ward were as good as Trevor Lawrence is this year,
if they were the same, that would be phenomenal for Cam Ward.
So right now I still do have Trevor Lawrence over Cam Ward.
I have CJ Stroud over Cam Ward, but Cam Ward hasn't played any games.
So he could easily vault over those guys quickly, but right now both Trevor Lawrence and CJ Stroud are too solid of quarterbacks for me to put a rookie over them.
Now, Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson are not that. They are not that. So I'm putting Cam Ward over CJ Stroud and
Anthony Richardson. And right now, if the Indianapolis Colts could trade DJ or Daniel
Jones and Anthony Richardson for Cam Ward straight up, they would do it. Regardless
of anything, they would do it right away. So I'm putting cam ward at third, but I think obviously, like I said, at the
beginning of the show, there was a chance that he rockets up to the best
quarterback in the division.
He's a number one overall pick.
Like we need to keep expectations realistic for like statistics and a game
by game basis, but cam ward is the number one overall pick in the draft.
It is not insane to expect him to be better than or just as good as
the number two and the number one overall pick in their
respective drafts with Stroud and Lawrence. Like, it's not
too high of expectations to expect Cam Ward to become the
best quarterback in the division. That's not asking too much.
It's not. He's the number one overall pick. That's what he should do eventually.
I'll be disappointed. See him, the disappointment is overcoming me. I will be so disappointed
if Cam Ward isn't at some point in time the best quarterback in the AFC South. He needs to be, you know, that's why you draft a quarterback number one overall.
He's talented enough to do it. I think part of the conversation,
like with these other quarterbacks is what are you going to put around him?
And that's why when I look at running back, so I have the Titans ranked third,
Kam Ward quarterbacks, I look at the running back groups.
And I think it's pretty clear that the Colts are number one.
A lot of this is heavily weighted towards your starters.
Like, I'm going to give you way more points for having
good starters than having good backups.
Good backups make some things even better.
Like, Khalil Herbert, very good player.
I think a very good backup.
The Colts also drafted DJ Giddens.
Really think he's going to be a solid.
I think he's a guy who could have been a, a one or two in a committee and he's
going to be a three behind the Colts O-line.
That's a good group.
That's my number one group.
But I'm giving the Titans number two.
Give me Tony Pollard over Joe Mixon.
Give me Tajay Spears over this version of Nick Chubb
or Damian Pierce. Julius Chestnut. I'm not very high on Julius Chestnut quite frankly, but right
now I would say that's probably their third running back until Calo Mullings is out there
for training camp and actually participating heavily after the core muscle injury that he had before the draft.
So on Pollard and Spears, I'll go Titans at two.
Texans was close though. I legitimately did put, did consider putting the Texans over the Titans.
Mixon is a good player, but he's wearing down now.
He's breaking down.
He had health issues last year.
Nick Chubb, more name value than player value right now with
his major injury. And Damian Pearce has been a major disappointment after looking pretty
good early in his career. Now, if you could argue that the Texans have a better room than
the Titans, I would not fight you on it. Fair enough. But give me Pollard over Mixon and
give me Spears over their final two. You know, I know Spears had his own downfalls last year.
I get that.
I understand that completely, but the projection of what should happen
next is way better than Chubb and Pierce just has never fit there since they
changed coaches.
So, and then the Jags at the end, you know, Travis ETN has been a disappointment.
They thought he was going to be one of the best running backs in the NFL.
Hasn't happened.
Tank Bigsby is a guy who every year they're like, oh, you know,
fantasy people are like, Tank Bigsby might be taking over for ETN.
They draft Bichal Tooten out of Virginia Tech.
The dude can't stop fumbling.
I think they got Laquint Allen too out of Syracuse, but like,
or is that Illinois, the orange teams?
You know, looking at them in my head, I just see orange. I think they got Laquint Allen too out of Syracuse, but like, or is that Illinois, the orange teams,
you know, looking at them in my head, I just see orange.
But either way, I think the Jags clearly
have the worst running back room in the division.
I think the Titans and Texans are battling
for the number two spot.
And I think the Colts clearly have the best
because they have the best running back out of the group.
But again, let me know how you guys feel.
The sad thing I have to say though is we're talking about wide receiver next and I think
the Tennessee Titans clearly have the worst room in the division and it's not particularly close.

Titans fans let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
We are ranking the position groups in the ASC South at the Titans at third,
at quarterback second in their running back group.
Now I want to get into some of the weapons on the offensive side of the ball
before we finish with the offensive line. Before we dive in,
do want to thank you again for making Locked on Titans your first listen each
and every day. Remember on tomorrow's episode of the Lock before we finish with the offensive line. Before we dive in, do wanna thank you again for making Locked on Titans your first listen
each and every day.
Remember on tomorrow's episode,
I'm gonna be doing the defensive side of the ball.
I'm gonna be doing the coaching staff.
I actually might do special teams here
at the end of this episode, just to, you know,
have a good balance or whatever, but play along with me.
Can't wait to see what you guys have to say.
We gotta talk about these receivers though folks i know i know again might be a tad controversial i know there are
going to be people that disagree but i have this wide receiver group as by far the worst in the
division and let me go through from top to bottom here and maybe you'll see what i mean maybe you'll
agree with me i think at some point you have to be honest with yourself
about where the Titans are lacking
and where they don't stack up.
And I think wide receiver is clearly the spot
where they're brutally last, the Texans.
Nico Collins is incredible, right?
Top seven wide receiver in the NFL,
top eight probably if we're doing a full ranking.
And maybe later in the summer, top eight, probably, if we're doing a full ranking. And maybe later in the summer,
like before training camp starts,
I'll do just a rankings.
You know, this is my top 10 wide receivers.
That's not Titan specific content.
So you guys let me know whether you'd want that or not.
But Nico Collins, I think clearly top 10 wide receiver,
hands down, where you put them within that,
we could have discussions.
Tank Del comes back healthy.
That's a solid player right there. Is he gonna be healthy? I don't know. They trade for
Christian Kirk. Very solid player. He may not be worth what he's getting paid these days,
but very solid player. I love the two wide receivers out of Iowa State. We talked about
them a ton in the pre-draft process, especially Jayden Higgins. Jayden Higgins has some Nico
Collins to his game. A bigger guy, but a smooth runner.
I think he's more Michael Pittman Jr. than Nico Collins,
but regardless, that's a good player.
Especially if you have Nico as your number one,
and then Michael Pittman Jr. as your number two,
which is what I think Jayden Higgins could be
for the Texans, that's a good group.
With Christian Kirk at first, and then Tank Dell
when he comes back in the slot,
and they have Jalen Noll, who can be a great yards after catch gadget weapon.
Like that's a great, whether it's talent at the top, whether it's top to bottom
depth, the Texans have a great group, but the Jags is really good too.
Brian Thomas Jr.
Folks.
Whoa.
Might be even better than Nico Collins.
Like you gotta prove it when you're a young player like that.
It's gonna take some time before I put Brian Thomas Jr.
like top five, top seven, like we're talking with Nico,
but folks, he's the real deal.
Okay, he's the real deal.
And then Travis Hunter, number two overall pick.
Supposed to be a game-breaking wide receiver with incredible yards after catchability, great contested
catchability, body control, all of that.
If he turns into, you know, what is draft selection, you're talking
about two top 10 receivers on the same team, the best wide receiver duo in the
NFL, that's what's possible in Jacksonville.
Okay.
And then Dyeemi Brown is just a solid deep threat wide receiver.
Dyeemi Brown to me is the quintessential average starting wide receiver.
Like it, most teams have three, you know, three starting receivers,
your two outside guys in your slot.
Well, if your best two players out of those three are
your slot guy and then one of your outside guys and Dyeeami Brown is your
number three starter as an outside boundary deep threat, I think that's
phenomenal. I think that's just normal solid average which is great quite
frankly. So Parker Washington is a good player below them too.
Not quite as much depth and upside,
but could be disgusting.
Well, upside, I guess, just upside within the depth.
Like they don't have Higgins and Knoll.
Like I'm not as high on Washington to turn out like that.
So anyways, then I have the Colts. Michael
Pittman Jr. is not better than Calvin Ridley in my opinion. Calvin Ridley is
better than Michael Pittman Jr. But after that, Josh Downs is a very good
player and he has torched the Titans at times. Alec Pierce, like Dianne Brown, a
really, really good wide receiver
three is an outside boundary deep threat guy. Really, really solid. And I think Adonai Mitchell
will take a step forward this year. And Adonai Mitchell, out of Texas, second round pick,
a guy that I really liked, that I thought the Titans would be smart to pick there,
had an okay rookie year, bad quarterback situation.
Obviously, I think he takes a big step this year.
So that's a pretty good top four.
And then the Titans have Calvin Ridley.
Tyler Lockett.
Is Tyler Lockett better than Josh Downs
or Travis Hunter or Christian Kirk
or a healthy Tank Dell?
No.
Is Van Jefferson better than Dianne Brown, Alec Pierce or Christian Kirk or Jaden Higgins?
No.
You know, like maybe the rookies step up here.
You know, that's what the Titans are banking on.
The Titans rookies. If Elik
Io Manor turns into, you know, a Michael Pittman Jr. level player, well, then the Titans probably
jump up a spot. If that happens and Xavier Restrepo turns into, you know, a wonderful
slot chain mover. Okay.
Then maybe we'll reassess after the year.
But they're rookies.
And I continue to say,
I am as excited as you could possibly be
about this rookie weapons group.
But the odds of all four of these guys
being real legitimate,
like players that contribute to the roster consistently,
it's just not likely, it's realistic that probably two of those guys turn into real contributors. So if only two of them turn into real contributors, you know, one of them would have to go AJ Brown for the Titans to move up a spot at all.
It's just they're too far away with that wide receiver group. Now you look at tight end,
this is controversial, but I'm doing it. I have the Colts at number one because I
think Tyler Warren is gonna be really good right away. I think he's gonna be
solid. It's gonna be a really good player. You know, he's not gonna be a super
disappointment. I don't think he's gonna go Brock Bowers. No, I don't think he's going to go Brock Bowers. No, I don't think he's going to do that. Okay. But I think he's going to be the best tight end in the division right away. He's better
than Dalton Schultz, better than Chig. He's a better player than Gunnar Helm, better than
Brenton Strange. What are they doing in Jacksonville? We'll get there. Don't worry. But then Mo Allie Cox
is a solid player.
I'd love to have Mo Alley-Cox on the Titans instead of Josh Wiley, right? Mo Alley-Cox is
a solid player and they got a guy named Will Mallory who is more of a receiving tight end
who I think because Warren and Mo Alley-Cox both have end of the line potential, he'll get used
more properly this year. It could make an impact. That's a good
group of tight ends in Indy. They just needed that star tight end, that number one clear talented
tight end, and they got that warrant. They got that. How good he'll be, we'll see, but he'll be
good enough to fill the box that they've been missing there. And then I went with the Texans.
Dalton Schultz right now is a better tight end than anybody on the Titans.
We can't, again, Gunnar Helm could be, I think if Gunnar Helm comes out and has a season that I think Gunnar Helm is going to have,
Gunnar Helm will be better than Dalton Schultz. That's about where I think Gunnar Helm could be, is the Dalton Schultz level tight end. Okay.
And if he takes that step with Chigga Conqua just being Chigga Conqua where he is the Titans.
Good jump up really high to number one.
But for right now Dalton Schultz is a solid starting tight end
in the NFL man.
He's a really solid starter Brevinvin Jordan's gonna be coming back.
I liked Brevin Jordan and have all along maybe that's a little biased there.
I think he signed Cade Stover out of Ohio State. Very versatile, very useful player.
So I'm going with Schultz who I think is the best tight end in the division right now.
I think Warren is going to be better right away, but Schultz gets that bump there.
I like their depth.
And then I would have the Titans number three
with Chig Aconquo, Gunnar Helm, Josh Wiley.
That would be my number three group right there.
Cause Chig still has really good ability.
He's been a breakout star in these off season practices.
Gunnar Helm, I'm super high on him
and think that he'll get the most reps of any tight end.
Josh Wiley is Josh Wiley.
I think his time is about out.
But Jacksonville is such a distant fourth at tight end. Josh Wiley is Josh Wiley. I think his time is about out. But Jacksonville is such a distant fourth at tight end. Their best tight end is Brenton Strange. Then they have a rookie
and Johnny Munt. And then they have a journeyman veteran and Hunter Long. I liked Hunter Long coming
out of college. I think Boston College for Hunter Long. But that's a bad group. They can like Brenton strange all they want, but they got rid of Evan Ingram
and they did not add any kind of replacement.
So if somebody is going to like trade for Kyle Pitts or Jonu Smith or something,
watch it be the Jags because, whoo, they're clearly in fourth, but that
leads the offensive line.
So let's get into the offensive line and look, the wide receiver
conversation may have been bad news for you guys, but I got good news about the offensive line and look, the wide receiver conversation may have been bad news for you guys, but I got good news about the offensive line.
Titans fans, let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
We are ranking the AFC South. I'm doing the offense on today's show.
Cam Ward, third best quarterback.
I think he could jump to number one though.
Second best running back group for the Titans.
Fourth best wide receiver group for the Titans, fourth best wide receiver
group for the Titans, third best tight end group for the Titans, and now we go to the
offensive line and yeah, I'm gonna hit special teams, gonna hit special teams here.
But before we do, wanna thank you again for making Locked on Titans your first listen
for your second listen.
Check out Locked On NFL Scouting.

Okay.
Oh line man, I'm telling you, I feel good about it. I feel good. I know that there are question marks and we talked about how the offensive line is a big question.
Just how good will it be? Will Dan Moore be good enough? Will Kush be back? Will Zeitler stay healthy? Latham and score, will they keep improving? those questions, even with all of those questions, there's no way that you can't
rank the Titans offensive line second. Like, as I look through all the position
groups and all the depth charts and where these guys are at, like, how can you not
put the Titans second? I don't even think that it's being, it's not even me being a
homer to put the tight in second.
When you look at these groups, I, I, well, I'm probably giving a little too much
benefit of the doubt to the casual fan for a division rival in these kinds of
discussions, but how could the Texans tell you that their offensive line is
anything better than last?
How could the Jags be overly optimistic about what they... So I think the Colts are number one by far.
They have the best offensive line. Bernard Raymond at left tackle is turning
to a solid player. Braden Smith is a really good player at right tackle.
We all know that Quinton Nelson is the dog of dogs.
One of the best guards in the history of football especially
you know this millennium this
century so far quarter century whatever you want to call it Quinten Nelson one
of the top guards of my lifetime that's good you know those three dudes are
really good but even Indy has some questions I think the Titans I know this
is crazy this is where I get crazy all. I think the Titans could have the best offensive
line in the division by the end of the season. There are two main reasons. Look at the Indianapolis
Colts offensive line on the interior. We know Quentin Nelson is a freaking A-cher, but you know,
he's an older guy. Maybe he slows down a little bit as we go, like tired of him, but they lost
Ryan Kelly at center who they've had for a
long time, and they're replacing him with Tanner Bordellini. I think Bordellini
came out of Illinois a couple of years ago, but I like Tanner Bordellini.
Might have been Maryland. It was Big Ten, I gotta believe. But I think Tanner Bordellini
could be good, but is he gonna be as good as Ryan Kelly when Ryan Kelly was really good?
Maybe not. Maybe he's just okay, you know?
And then Matt Gonclaves, I've heard Goncalves, Gonclaves, Gonclaves, I don't know, man.
I even looked it up multiple times before the draft when he came out of the draft last year guy who
Had a bad injury
It was kind of rehabbing for most of the year last year getting back to normal basically
For the Colts now gonna step in was a college offensive tackle gonna play guard
Super question mark. This was a late round pick anyways
super big question mark for those two guys, Bortolini and Gonclays. So, Indy's offensive line, you got to rank it number
one because they have three really, really good players and one of those guys is an elite
all-timer. But those two spots, that's where the Titans could get the edge. Now, I have
the Titans at two. I think Dan Moore is the third best left tackle in the division.
He's behind Raymond and Walker Little and Cam Robinson is last in my opinion for the Texans.
I think Peter Skoronsky is the second best guard behind Quentin Nelson in the entire division.
I think that, well, honestly, that's a lie. I would have him, he's the second best left guard
make the or well, honestly, that's a lie. I would have him. He's the second best left guard and I would have him as the
third best guard period because the best right guard is Kevin
Zeitler and it's Quintin Nelson, Kevin Zeitler, and
then Peter Skowron in terms of all the guards in the division
in my opinion. Then I probably go like Titus Howard after
that or Patrick McCarrey, whatever, we'll get to them. But Lloyd Cushinberry, if healthy, if healthy, if Lloyd Cushinberry is back and he looks ahead of schedule,
if Lloyd Cushinberry is back for week one, he is the best center in the entire division.
He's better than Robert Hainsey. He's better than Tanner Bordellini. He's better than Jarrett Patterson.
So you're talking about third best left tackle and Dan Moore lovers would maybe argue he's better than Jared Patterson. So you're talking about third best left tackle
and Dan Moore lovers would maybe argue
he's better than Walker Little
and say he's the second best left tackle.
I'm not, I have a misthird.
But you have the third best guard in the division,
the second best guard in the division,
the best center in the division.
Probably the third best left tackle.
J.C. Latham could be the best right tackle in the entire division.
Braden Smith is very good, but Latham has way more potential in his younger.
Anton Harrison for Jacksonville was a first-round pick out of Oklahoma.
He's just okay. I don't know if he's first-round offensive tackle good, you know.
He's okay. I think J.C. Latham's better. Okay,
Blake Fisher out of Notre Dame is going to step into a starting role for Houston this year. I
think he's going to get worked. Now Houston has a ton of depth. Okay, they have a ton of depth,
but I don't think it can save them. All right. Jacksonville is the third best offensive line
to me though. Walker Little is the second best left tackle. Ezra Cleveland,
bottom barrel starter at guard. Robert Hainsey same thing, bottom barrel starter in my opinion.
Patrick McCarrey is a good starting guard at right guard. Anton Harrison like I said,
he's just average. He's like as good as J.C. Latham was last year at left tackle. He's just okay.
So that's the third best offensive line to me.
Jacksonville's offensive line isn't garbage.
You know? It's just, it's, it, you know, it's a little below average in my opinion.
But Texans offensive line is not good. And again, they have as much depth as you could possibly have.
They got Cam Robinson at left tackle. But he was terrible last year for Minnesota after he got traded from Jacksonville.
And you traded away Laramie Tunzel, top five left tackle and replaced him with Cam Robinson and
you think that that's gonna be okay? I don't know about that. They drafted
Ariante Ursery out of Minnesota who I didn't like the scouting reports on him
that he wasn't really a guy that finished through the whistle he wasn't
really a guy that maybe loved you you know, physically working other guys.
I don't know about Ariante, Ursary, we'll see.
They had Trent Brown, Trent Brown, it couldn't be a factor, you know, for the Bengals last year, I think he's super risky.
Titus Howard is a solid player at guard, but Jared Patterson, Lincoln Tomlinson
is solid. I guess Jared Patterson, Lincoln Tomlinson is solid.
I guess Jared Patterson's not good.
They brought in Ed Ingram too.
Like they brought in a bunch of C level guys
hoping that, you know, a couple of them will pan out.
I don't think they do.
I think this offensive line is terrible.
To be honest with you, I think they're gonna be
switching through combinations and this and that
over and over throughout. It's going to be super difficult.
So, I have the Titans as the second best offensive line.
Now, I do want to do special teams real quick to cap things off here.
I have the Texans number one on special teams. They have Kiyomi Fairbairn at
kicker. He's good. Tommy Townsend at punter. One of the best.
Damien Pierce is a good kick returner. Braxton Berrios could be a good punt
returner. I like what they have for their special teams, but I put the Titans
second for special teams. Joey Sly at kicker. Johnny Hecker at punter. I think
somebody will step up to be a solid returner under Bones Fossil, whether it's
Chim Dike or Xavier Restrepo or James Prochet,
Titans are going to have good returns this year.
The Jags, I think it's Cameron Little as their kicker.
Then you have Brian Cook at punter.
Parker Washington at returner is pretty solid as well, but I'm not certain about the kicker there so
we'll see let me see it again okay and then I think the Colts have the worst special teams
Rigoberto Sanchez is an okay punter Anthony Gold is an all right returner uh Spencer Schrader a
rookie at kicker who what it's always risky when you're going with a rookie at kicker. So I got a ranking last based on that, but it's special teams.
I, if you want to tell me that my rankings are terrible and they should be
totally different for special teams, then sure, I'm not going to fight you on it.
But remember, I'm going to be doing head coach and the defensive side of the ball
on tomorrow's episode, make sure that you tune in and division rivalry week.
I'm going to do a deep dive on the Jags, the Texans and the Colts as we go forward
throughout the rest of this week, but that's going to do it for me today.
Folks, as always, I am your host Tyler Rowland and this was Locked on Titans.
