On today's show, we got a ton to discuss the Tennessee Titans power trio of head coach, Brian Callahan of general manager, Mike Gorgonzzi, and also of president of football operations, Chad Brinker sat down for their pre-draft press conference. They essentially confirmed Cam Ward as the number one overall pick. Not only that, but they talked about their best player available philosophy
Starting point is 00:01:14 and they sure did make it sound like they're gonna pass on some talented guys that a lot of Titans fans are hoping that they'll take in round two. They also talked about individual positions in the draft, like running back, like tight end, what they're looking for. So, lots of great information to go over before we dive into it. Do want to thank you for making Locked on Titans your first listen each and every day.

Starting point is 00:01:53 If you aren't an every dayer, you need to be one. I'm gonna have a ton of content all draft weekend. I go live after every night. I do short videos, get you ready for the day ahead. Total recaps and next week after the players are picked, I'm going to be going through all of their tape and speaking of tape, I got a new film breakdown up right now on the Tic Tac Titans film channel about my top four wide receivers for the Titans in the draft Luther Burton, Emeka Muka, Jayden Higgins, and
Starting point is 00:02:21 Kyle Williams to make sure that you guys check that out, but enough with the preamble, we do got to talk about what happened at today's press conference and number one, the Tennessee Titans essentially came out and confirmed that cam ward will be the number one pick and we heard it early in the morning. Ian Rappaport from NFL network tweeted early in the day after months of speculation, the consensus around the league is that the Titans will stay at number one and pick rather than trade sources say no surprise decision made there was real
Starting point is 00:02:55 interest, but as one team said, they never opened the door all eyes on Cam Ward. And then the Tennessee Titans come out in their press conference today. And they say that we've reached a consensus on the number one overall pick. We've made a decision. Mike Borganzi admitted that people did try to come up to number one, that he did get trade offers. He didn't go into details as to what those trade offers actually were, but they got trade offers and the Titans said, no, they turned them down.
Starting point is 00:03:30 And then at the end of the press conference, Mike Borgonzi literally said other teams shouldn't even bother with calling the Titans anymore. And throughout the press conference, they talked about cam ward at length. If you're right now saying, Oh, well, Tyler, they said they came to a consensus. Uh, Ian Rappaport's tweet says that a decision has been made, but that doesn't mean that it's cam ward. Well, Mike Borganzi said this about cam ward quote, we got to know the person got to sit down with them multiple times, whether it be the combine, the pro day, the private workout,
Starting point is 00:04:08 got to meet his family, the competitive edge that he has. You can feel that talking with the kid. He's very intelligent. We've had him on the board several times with Brian Callahan, great family as well. End quote, right there. When he says we've had him on the board several times. What he means is they've had him on the whiteboard diagram in place. Hey Cam, if you get this coverage with this
Starting point is 00:04:30 route concept, where are you going? What are you looking for? What are your keys? If the safety does this and he rolls this way, if they float this way, what are your answers? How do you slide protection? All that stuff. Cam Ward has the answers. And they're telling you right there. They didn't talk about Shudder Sanders like that. They didn't talk about Abdul Carter like that. They didn't talk about Travis Hunter like that. And not only that, but they kept talking about him. Chad Breaker talked about the pro day moment.
Starting point is 00:04:57 He said, where he, Cam Ward looked at him and said, I'm solidifying it today. He said, quote, I think we enjoyed it. Cool moment. Cam, he's confident. I wouldn't say he's cocky. There's a fine line between the two. He carries himself the right way. I appreciate the way he approaches the game, the competitiveness, the way he plays the game with a quiet mind, the confidence he has. I think it's been impressed.
Starting point is 00:05:22 So you got the president of football operations and the general manager both coming out talking about cam ward. He is the pick. They have confirmed it. And then Brian Callahan went into detail about how he feels with the quarterback and supporting cam ward. And remember the Joe burrow experience. Brian Callahan said, quote, one of the things unique to my journey in this profession is that I've done it before too. I've been a part of a young quarterback, number one overall pick, coming to a team that picked number one for a reason. We weren't good enough last year.
Starting point is 00:05:54 We're picking first and we have a chance to add a really good player with the first overall pick. There is a lot of things that I learned from that first lesson in Cincinnati. When you bring a player like that, that will help us in the process. I think we have added the right players in free agency. We have good young players here. We've got to do a lot better job coaching and putting ourselves in some better positions.
Starting point is 00:06:16 Those things to me are all part of the equation. I feel good about where we're at and where we're heading and how we're going to get there. And they how we're gonna get there and they're gonna get there with Cam Ward and I think it was interesting that Mike Borganzi also mentioned I was in Kansas City with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes during that process talked about Brian Callahan being in Cincinnati with Joe Burrow. Talked about Chad Brinker, Jordan Love, Chad Brinker being around for the Green Bay Packers organization that has been a quarterback factory for 40 years. So everyone within the organization has done this before. Everyone in the
Starting point is 00:07:00 organization has seen this process with a young quarterback work. They've seen what it looks like when it works. So I was real fired up about these comments. Now look we do got to acknowledge the reality here that Cam Ward has to make better decisions. He's got to find that balance and Brian Callahan even went out of his way to talk about that. He said, I don't want to take away what makes a player. Great. You have to have, you have to play a certain way to be successful in the league, but when it's time to put on the Cape and be Superman, you don't want to take that away.
Starting point is 00:07:36 It's a bounce. He talked about how you look around the league, the best quarterbacks in the NFL. They do Superman stuff. And shout out to the Superman movie coming out this summer. I'm fired up for that. Hope you guys are too, but side note, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, even Joe Burrow with his mobility, man, Joe Burrow was a pocket Jedi.
Starting point is 00:07:58 The way he slides around there. Jaylen Hertz just won the Superbowl. The best quarterbacks in the NFL have the ability to make plays when things break down. So he needs to make better decisions, yes, but as Brian Callahan is saying there, you don't want to tell Superman to take his cape off. You're going to need it. So I loved everything I heard from the Tennessee Titans, whether it be Ian Rapoport, whether it be Chad Breaker, Mike Borganzi, Brian Callahan, the Tennessee Titans have confirmed
Starting point is 00:08:28 Cam Ward as the number one overall pick. And guys, if you've been listening to Locked on Titans for about a month now, three weeks now, I've been telling you the same thing. It's confirmed Cam Ward is the guy and now we ride, but the question becomes what do the Titans do after Cam Ward is the guy and now we ride. But the question becomes, what do the Titans do after Cam Ward? What happens then? Well, I've been trying to tell you guys for weeks to keep an open mind and the general manager of the team is trying to tell you to keep an open mind as well.

Once again, that's Fandool.com. Titans fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast. We talked about the Tennessee Titans confirming Cam Ward as the number one overall pick in the pre draft press conference. But now I want to talk about some other non Cam Ward related things that they
Starting point is 00:10:35 discussed because they're trying to tell you guys not to expect certain players that you may be expecting and not to expect certain positions that you may be expecting. Just like I have been telling you for weeks now, before we dive into those quotes, do want to thank you again for making locked on Titan. Your first listen again, I had a film breakdown video on the Tic Tac Titan YouTube channel right now with my top four perfect pairing wide receivers for cam ward talked about too high end guys talked about two high end guys, talked about two guys that could be there on day two.
Starting point is 00:11:09 Now I say all that, but the reality is the Titans may not go wide receiver that high at all. And if you listen to some of the quotes that we got on Tuesday, well, it's pretty clear. Mike Borganzi said this about supporting Cam Ward. You want to surround a young quarterback with as much talent and environment he needs to succeed, but we're also building a team here.
Starting point is 00:11:40 There's a lot of holes on the roster. We have to make the best decisions for the team. Or Gonsi also said, I think we have eight picks and we're going to do as much with those picks. If they turn into more picks, we will see how the draft goes and unfolds. We certainly have a lot of needs as a team right now. That's the second time he's mentioned that the third time if you count Brian Callahan's first comment about the team
Starting point is 00:12:12 not being good enough. We're going to do our best to stay true to the board draft best player available not really reach for needs at this point, but this is a big opportunity for this organization. Really a tone setter, this draft for the guys we bring in here right now. Part of staying true to the board, you're trying to marry up the need with the value. You never want to force a need in the draft. For us, we do have a lot of needs. That's worth time. So I think it is important for us to stay true to the board and take the best player with that pick. We don't want to force needs and force a pick based on that.
Starting point is 00:12:57 They are telling you. We're not just going to go out there and say, like some of you guys in my comments say after cam ward, it's wide receiver edge lineman linebacker tight end running back. I don't care who's available. You got to take those positions in that order. And I'm sorry, that is not how this is going to work. They may take a guy who isn't even a starter this year. Remember when the Titans took Roger McCreary in the second round and everybody
Starting point is 00:13:31 was like, why would they take a cornerback when the Titans already have two starting cornerbacks? Why would they do that? Well, now Roger McCreary is one of the only good players on the team. So when the Titans go out there and they draft an interior defensive lineman, when they draft an interior offensive lineman, it was really Tyler Booker, Donovan Jackson, I think are right there for the Titans on day two. They go something like that. I'm not going to be mad. I'm not going to be shocked. I'm going to be
Starting point is 00:14:04 sitting here telling you, I told you guys, no, they could go wide receiver. They could go edge. I think edge is way more likely if they're not going wide receiver. I think it's because they're going with an edge. A guy like Donovan Azuracu, a guy like James Pierce, a guy like Nick, uh, Skorton, Scowerton. I don't know. I've heard it pronounced a million different ways like cam scataboo. I watched Joe Tessitore on ESPN. He says cam scataboo. And then I have people dogging me in the comments saying it's cam scataboo. I mean, whatever, who knows at this point, Camara Camaro.
Starting point is 00:14:36 But the point is they are telling us that they are going to draft talent over need. And I always, when people say, no, they have to take a wide receiver there. What if the wide receiver that's available is 60th on your board? Are you going to take the 60th best player at pick number 35 because you need a wide receiver? Or are you going to take the 28th ranked player who's an offensive lineman or interior defensive lineman or an edge who has dropped to number 35, are you going to take the 28th player on your board at an incredible value or are you going to reach for a position that may be a more dire immediate need even though that player isn't the best player? Like no one ever wants to answer that question. When you pose that question to them, when they say you got to take a wide
Starting point is 00:15:24 receiver, we'll answer that question when you pose that question to them. When they say you got to take a wide receiver. Well, answer that question. Would you take the 60th best player on your board at wide receiver instead of the 28th best player on your board at interior offensive or defensive line or at edge? Be honest. And if you're going to look me in the face and say, I take the 60th best player because that's a position of need. Well, I'm sorry. I don't have anything nice to say to you.
Starting point is 00:15:46 I think that's illogical. I think that's insane. And I don't think that any NFL team is honestly doing that. And the teams that do do that are the teams that are dumb. And we have a guy running the show who came from green Bay and a guy running the show who came from Kansas city teams that draft very well and have been great organizations for decades. So, I'm just trying to continue to push the point here that the Titans need to take the best players they can.
Starting point is 00:16:16 If that means a guard, if that means an interior defensive lineman who's a pass rusher, if that means an edge rusher, if one of these incredible linebackers, like if John Campbell drops all the way, I would consider that. Take the best players and in the press conference also, I don't have the direct quote for this one, but Chad Brinker even said, we need good football players. We're going to stay true to our board. Like you really have to do that. And he even admitted Mike Borganzi admitted that at previous times in his career, when he's reached on talent or he's reached on need instead of talent, he's been burned. Also, let me say this. I like Luther Burden.
Starting point is 00:17:03 So let me say this, I like Luther Burden. My number one perfect pairing for Cam Ward is Luther Burden because of how he could fit together with their skill sets. I have Luther Burden as my number two wide receiver in the draft. But when I hear Mike Borganzi and Chad Brinker talk about, Hey, this draft class is a tone center. This is, you know, this draft class is where we build our culture from. This draft class is the foundation for which our program will be built on. When I hear stuff like that, there's no way they're taking Luther Burden.
Starting point is 00:17:40 There's no way he's a character concern. He's a guy who isn't fully committed now He'll probably go if he went to a team with a strong culture in place like the Eagles He'll probably go crazy and be amazing. But that if you're trying to build a strong football culture You can't have one of your pillars of your franchise be Luther burden just You just can't. A Mecca, Bucca, Jaden Higgins, Kyle Williams. Yeah, probably so. But I just, I guess every time I hear the Titans talk and the closer we get to
Starting point is 00:18:18 the draft, I feel less and less confident. They were more and more sure the Titans aren't going to take Luther burden. Even if he's there, even if he's there, they're going to pass on him because they're trying to build a true football culture and the locker room is too important. So I know a lot of people would disagree with that. I would still take Luther burden, but what I think I would do and what I think will happen, always different things. Very, very rarely are they the same thing, what I would do and what I think will happen. So I'm just telling you guys, brace yourselves, not only for the Titans to pass on Luther burden, but for them to do so with potentially
Starting point is 00:19:05 a position that you don't think is a very big need. And the last point that I would make about this need talent conversation is the common denominator and folks who are, no, you got a draft, white receiver, no, you got to draft edge needs, needs, needs, needs, needs. You got to take the needs. The common denominator with all of the people who say that to me or respond like that is you're only focused on 20, 25, you want to win as many games. You possibly can't at 20 in 20, 25.
Starting point is 00:19:36 That's what, why would I take, uh, an interior offensive lineman? Who isn't going to start this year over a wide receiver when they desperately need wide receiver? Well, because you're more worried about 2026 than you are 2025. That's why you would do something like that. But most fans only care about maximizing wins. The next time I watch football, I want to be happy on Sunday. I want them to win as many games as possible.
Starting point is 00:20:00 If the Tennessee Titans could take a player that they know would be better in two years than a player who would be better this year, they would take them. The Titans want players who are going to be better in 2026 than 2025. Luther Burden may be better than some players in 2025, but 2026, maybe Luther Burden is a bad example, but do you see what I'm saying? It's very obvious that the time and they even talked about that. I mean, Mike Borghansi said part of the draft process is projecting two or three years from now. What are they going to be?
Starting point is 00:20:35 So for us, we are trying to think what is this player going to look like in year two or year three? That is what really separates good teams. You're really digging in on the talent and you're trying to find or year three, that is what really separates good teams. You're really digging in on the talent and you're trying to find what are certain traits that are going to project this guy to being a contributor or starter. He said, what is this player going to look like in year two or year three?
Starting point is 00:20:57 The Titans are a rebuilding team. They're building their foundation. They are telling us this team has a lot of needs. We're not a very good team. Like they're screaming at you that this team is not good. The roster is not good. This is going to take a while. They're not going to prioritize a 2025 need over a 2026 potential. They're not. So I'm just telling you with the draft couple of days away, one day away, get your mind in the right
Starting point is 00:21:25 spot folks. But the Titans also talked about some individual positions and their philosophy there and I thought it was very interesting. Do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought to you by the Amazon fire TV stick 4k. Did you know that your fire TV is also an Xbox? Titans fans, let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans fans. Let's cap off today's edition of the locked on Titans podcast. We talked about the comments on cam ward. The Tennessee Titans have confirmed cam ward as the pick.
Starting point is 00:23:15 We talked about the open-mindedness that a lot of you guys need to have as we go into day two of the NFL draft. The Titans are going to be drafting for talent, not 2025 need just like I've been telling you for multiple weeks, but want to talk about some other, I guess, more miscellaneous comments from the press conference on Tuesday, some individual player philosophy things that the Titans talked about, uh, I found very interesting. Number one, the Titans talked about the running back position and Brian Callahan specifically talked about the running back position. And he said, I think nowadays, you know, you need three running backs because
Starting point is 00:23:55 guys are going to get banged up. And he talked about Tony Pollard and Tajay Spears, and he mentioned Julius Chestnut as well, who the Titans brought back. But what I thought was most interesting is Brian Callahan mentioned a certain style of runner. He's like, you know, might be interested in a certain style of runner. And it lines up with exactly what we've been talking about and what I've been talking about on the show.
Starting point is 00:24:18 You know, I hate to be so like, you know, I tried to tell you, I've been telling you, but everything that they're saying in the press conference Is exactly what i've been saying to you guys when we've talked about these positions for a month now So it's like running back. What do the titans need? They need a big Physical powerful running back and brian callahan talked about specific style, but he also did say more than anything You need three good runners So I think what he's saying is the titans are open to other styles of running back But he also did mention, you know, maybe a certain style would fit best three good runners. So I think what he's saying is the Titans are open to other styles of running back,
Starting point is 00:24:45 but he also did mention, you know, maybe a certain style would fit best. They know what they need. They need a big powerful running back who can do short yardage, who can take carries. Tony Pollard is not going to make it. He barely made it last year. He was falling apart by the end of the year because of all of the carries that he's had. Tajay Spears could barely stay healthy at all last year. You can't count on either of them to stay healthy for a full season and fulfill their role in the
Starting point is 00:25:10 way that you hope. So you need a third running back to give you a security blanket and having a guy with a varying skill set from those two smaller speed backs. That would be perfect. So I feel like it's like three levels smallest and fastest power or spears Pollard is the mid-range guy is a little bit bigger than spears, but not quite as jitter bugger buggery That's a word and then you need your big power back. They Interviewed caleb johnson for example is a guy they talk to out of iowa I've been talking about ollie gordon as a guy that makes a ton of sense
Starting point is 00:25:48 If they really want to go late phil muffa from clemson. Maybe he's a guy you break bring in, you know, there there are options there for the Titans. What if the Titans went Omari on Hampton? I picked number 35 if he was there that would really like I'm talking interior line offensive line, you know, edge boa, but that would really shake some things up be very interesting. But regardless, they know what they need at running back, but that would really shake some things up. Be very interesting. But regardless, they know what they need at running back, but they're going to get a running back in the strap. It's too good of a class of running back. They also talked about tight ends. And I thought this was really interesting.
Starting point is 00:26:15 Mike Borganzi said that he's not as how do I phrase this? I don't want to put words in his mouth. I don't have the exact quote. I'm trying to paraphrase it for you guys. Cause it's better for the discussion, but he was basically saying like, you don't necessarily need a true inline why tight end do it all like George Kittle type, he was saying, you know, now in the NFL, it's kind of committee. Tight end is more about committee.
Starting point is 00:26:44 You have different kinds of tight ends. So that was something interesting that I thought the philosophy of what the Titans are looking for at tight end. I think about a do it all guy, like a Trey McBride, like a George Kittle, like a Mark Andrews, blah, blah, blah. But the Titans are talking about tight end. Like it's more of a committee position for them. Like we don't necessarily need to do it all.
Starting point is 00:27:05 You know, prototypical tight end. We can have a group of guys at tight end. And that makes sense with guys that, you know, they had a visit with Terrence Ferguson, who is more of a blocking tight end. So if you have Josh Wiley, who's kind of the in between, he could be a vertical threat. He could be a red zone mismatch. You have Chicka Conquo, who can be your move tight end, your secondary tight end, your flex tight end. And then you have a guy who could fill the, you know, the Jeff Swain role, the Nick Van Et role, a guy that could fill that role right there, who could be the blocking tight end for the team. That would make sense. So later in the draft, getting a tight end Jackson Halls is a guy that I really like in that range. What's the guy's name?
Starting point is 00:27:49 Tiffin. I think it is the tight end would make a lot of sense as well. Big body blocking tight ends, but I just thought it was interesting that they talked about tight end as a committee position like running back rather than one where you're looking for a bona fide. So very, very interesting there. The last few things I want to mention is when Mike Borganzi talks about Will Levis, he said, Will Levis is a quarterback on our roster. Big pause. Who still needs to develop. I'm sorry, guys. I think Will Levis will be traded. There are some people who don't think that. I think Will Levis is 100% going to be traded. So it just doesn't make I've said this all all season long.
Starting point is 00:28:28 It doesn't make any sense in the world to bring in Cam Ward is the number one overall pick and try to establish a culture with him as your leader in the face of your franchise and still have Will Levis in the locker room who probably has strong bonds and friendships with other people in that locker room, whether he failed or not. Football players aren't going to be like, Oh, you threw an interception. I hate you. Football players are militaristic.
Starting point is 00:28:51 They're like, that's my brother. I don't care if you make a mistake. I've seen the best you can do. You're going to rebound. You're going to do better. You're like players don't give up on each other like that. So it would just be way too awkward. Get Leviss out of the locker room for whatever it takes.
Starting point is 00:29:04 Let Ken Ward come in with a fresh start without having that weird awkwardness in the locker room, man. I'm not, I'm not into that. Um, last few things that I can think of, um, Talked about trades for veterans. Borganzi was very coy about that. Didn't really give any hints or anything about trades for veterans. It was just like, yeah, it depends on the player. It depends on the player.
Starting point is 00:29:31 So I thought, I thought that was interesting, but with that being said, that is going to do it for today's edition of the locked on Titans podcast. And we talked about all of the comments from the power trio from the Titans Titans podcast. And we talked about all the comments from the power trio from the Titans. Tomorrow, I'm going to have a full draft breakdown, full preview for you guys going over my favorite options at every position, who I think are the best fits for the Titans, different rounds, different trades. They can make it again. We talk about a trade back, but as I said on March the 15th, I think there's a good chance that the Titans trade up into the top 100. But as I said on March the 15th, I think there's a good chance that the Titans trade up into the top 100.
Starting point is 00:30:15 So we'll discuss that on tomorrow's full draft preview, but the draft is here, folks. Make sure you get subscribed, stay subscribed. But as always, I am your host, Tyler Rollin, and this was locked on tight.
