Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Cam Ward BACK ON TRACK Goals at Tennessee Titans Mandatory Mini-Camp & Jeffery Simmons Leadership

Episode Date: June 15, 2026

The Tennessee Titans kick off mandatory mini-camp this week and seeing Cam Ward get back on the right track would be the best thing that could happen. While it isn't time to panic, Ward has been havin...g his struggles through summer sessions so far and getting the momentum rolling in the right direction with a full complement of teammates would be a nice thing to hear. Also, Ward and Carnell Tate heating back up would be great progress, but hearing about Cam's connection with Calvin Ridley as Ridley gets back to full go would be something else to keep an eye on. Ridley's potential makes him a key player if the Titans hope to hit their goals or exceed them. The offensive line deserves attention too as starting offensive tackles JC Latham and Dan Moore have been absent of late. Their status plus the right guard battle make the trenches more interesting than ever. That counts on defense too as Jeffery Simmons and John Franklin-Myers have also not been participating in sessions so far. Having them back out on the field would mean a lot from a locker room perspective as well. Finally, Femi Oladejo getting back out there would be great as he is currently falling behind while his fellow second-year teammates, Kevin Winston and Marcus Harris, look to keep thriving.   LOCKED ON TITANS EVERYDAY CLUB: https://lockedontitans.supercast.com/   Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel:  https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitans   TicTacTitans Merchandise: https://dixons-dream.square.site/shop...   Follow Tyler on Twitter @TicTacTitans   Follow the show on Facebook @LockedOnTitansPod   Subscribe to the Locked On Titans YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@LockedOnTitans   Everydayer ClubIf you never miss an episode, it’s time to make it official. Starting point is 00:00:00 Tennessee Titans mandatory mini-camp starts on Tuesday, and I want to see Cam Ward get back on track. I'll tell you how we can do it on today's edition of Locked-on Titans. You are Locked-on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day. Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast. I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans. Today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast is brought to you by Fandall. The biggest stage in world soccer is here.
Starting point is 00:00:41 Let there be goals on Fandle. Visit fandle.com to get started now on today's show. We are going to look at the top 10 things I'm watching for as the Tennessee Titans head into mandatory minicamp to celebrate Locked On's 10-year anniversary. The Titans start mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. I'm going to talk about the veterans that should be returning that could make a big impact. We're going to talk about the big things I'm watching for on offense, which we talk a lot about
Starting point is 00:01:12 wide receiver, but offensive line has my eye in mandatory minicamp. But we got to begin with Cam Ward because right, that's where everything starts for the Tennessee Titans. And I want to see Cam Ward get back on track. And listen, I don't mean that Cam Ward has to be absolutely phenomenal. I don't mean that Cam Ward has to complete every pass that he's. throws and dominate the defense the entire time and all those different things. I just want to see Cam Ward get things back going in the right direction.
Starting point is 00:01:41 I don't want the conversation coming out of mandatory minicamp to be, oh, Cam Ward still struggling. Cam Ward still looks back. Look, we have contextualized these struggles as much as you possibly could at this point. The new scheme, the new weapons, the new coaching. This time of year, quarterback's figuring out how difficult it is to manage. everything going on, all of the different stuff that we've talked about, and all of that still applies. So it's not like if Cam Ward isn't incredible in mandatory minicamp, it's an outright disaster.
Starting point is 00:02:13 That's not what I'm saying. But just be honest with yourself. Look yourself in the mirror. Be real for a moment or as Cam Ward himself would say, keep it a buck. I'd rather Cam Ward play well, or at least not play poorly. So that, hey, was Cam Ward phenomenal? Was he dominant? Was he elite?
Starting point is 00:02:31 No, but Cam Ward struggling wasn't the storyline. And again, not because I don't want Cam Ward to struggle. I think the struggles right now could be good for Cam Ward. I want Cam Ward to struggle with things right now so that he has the answers to the test. Again, failure is what prepares you for success. You learn from your failures to find your success. That's true in football, in life in any realm. All right.
Starting point is 00:03:01 So it's all right that Cam Ward struggles. And as a matter of fact, you could even argue that it's a good thing that Cam Ward is having his struggles right now because you're going to have your struggles eventually. Would you rather have it be now in June when you're seeing things for the first time? Or would you rather have it be in September and October.
Starting point is 00:03:18 I would much rather Cam Ward have his struggles in June. But with all of that being said, it would be nice to see him get it back going the other way. Start to build positive momentum. start to correct some of those things that were going wrong during OTAs, start to be on the same page with your wide receivers, get more comfortable in the system, get the accuracy in a better place,
Starting point is 00:03:40 have more consistency throughout the practice. Again, it's not time to panic, it's not time to worry if he doesn't, but I would just like to see some positive momentum. And I say this to you, not ask somebody who is covering the team and trying to have this analysis. And as a fan of the Tennessee Titans and Cam Ward,
Starting point is 00:04:00 it would just be a lot better if we got to not talk about Cam Ward not playing his best. That would just make my heart feel better. And I'm sure you guys feel the same. So let's just get positive momentum. Let's just get going in the right direction. Let's just start to correct some of these things. And not saying you have to play perfect, but don't let the storyline be, oh, Cam Ward was struggling.
Starting point is 00:04:23 And what does that look like on the field? How does that manifest itself in a tangible way? Let's hit some of these deep shots. Let's get that deep outside accuracy to a little bit better of a place. Let's spread it around. I don't want to just hear, oh, Carnel take this, Cornell, take that, blah, blah, blah. I want to hear Cam had a good connection with multiple receivers.
Starting point is 00:04:44 He had six or seven guys during team drills today. Because that means that he has a good understanding of who's going to be open, not based on the player that's running the route, but within the scheme of the offense. And that would also mean that other guys are working in with the first team offense. We'll talk more about the wide receivers and who I want to see and all of that as we continue. But part of that is Cam Ward working with different people and understanding, hey, it's not just that I could throw it down the sideline to Carnell Tate
Starting point is 00:05:12 and he's going to one-on-one a wide receiver. That doesn't show any, it's not that, and I don't want to say this too strongly, it's not that it doesn't show any understanding of the offense. But I feel like that's just a quick get out of jail free card. You know what I mean? like you're not really proven that you understand, hey, I'm going to go to the backside dig against this coverage. Hey, the slot fade will be here.
Starting point is 00:05:37 If I get man here, it's just, oh, I don't have anything. I'm going to the bread and butter. Now, that's a good thing for the Titans long term. I want Cam Ward to have a bread and butter to go to like Cornell Tate where, hey, nothing's open. I'm going to throw the back shoulder fade, junk ball to Cornell Tate, and he's going to go get it because that's what he does best.
Starting point is 00:05:55 I want the Titans to be able to have that. but that can't be the only thing. And I would rather, like, it takes me back to Harold Landry's last season here where they told Harold Landry during training camp, you can't use the speed rush. You have to use a different pass rush move. We know that you could do the speed rush. You need to work on the other stuff right now.
Starting point is 00:06:20 That's where I'm at with Cam Ward too. Yes, we know that he could lob those balls up and Carnell Tate could jump over Micah Robinson and any time he wants to make that play. Let's win an other way. Spread the ball around. Hit Wondale Robinson on the quick slant. Hit Chim D.K. on the post route.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Hit Elic I.O. Manor on the curl route. Like, I just want to see him mix it up. And that also means that those wide receivers are getting mixed into the first team, which is a good sign for where they're at status-wise. But again, more wide-receiver conversation coming soon. So hit some deep balls, spread it around, and just have situational success. situational success.
Starting point is 00:06:58 So like we've talked about, the Titans aren't just going out there and having a scrimmage where up there's, you know, 15 minutes left in the first quarter, we're playing a game, go out there and play cam. That's not what the Titans are doing in practice. So when you see his numbers of,
Starting point is 00:07:11 he was 12 for 14 or 7 for 17 or 9 of 17 or whatever all these numbers are, you got to remember that's like, yeah, but he's doing specific situational work. So I want to see Red zone, score some touchdowns. Third down, get some conversions. Two-minute drill, half success.
Starting point is 00:07:36 Drive down, get the field goal, get the touchdown, get what you need. They're not going to be wins every single session. The defense is going to win, especially if, like we're going to talk about at the end of the show, the Titans have more veterans in the building, like Jeffrey Simmons, John Franklin Myers, who are inevitably going to get into the backfield more than Solomon Thomas and Jordan Elliott and Jackie Marshall, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:08:02 Like, that's just naturally going to happen. So with that in mind, have some successes. I don't want the Titans getting absolutely wrecked by the defense in any of these situational drills. Just have your fair share of successes so that, again, my overall overarching point is, I just don't want Cam not playing his best to be the storyline coming out. I wanted to be either Cam Ward bounced back and had a great day
Starting point is 00:08:34 or Cam Ward was just good in this day. He wasn't a detriment to the offense. There were other things to discuss. So that's what I'm hoping for. That's the number one thing that I'm watching for. Don't be the storyline. Have more consistency and bounce back. Get back on the right track.
Starting point is 00:08:53 And I don't think that it's being panicky or overly critical or not understanding the situation. I think I have been a staunch supporter of Cam throughout this situation. But we still have to have some semblance of reality here too. And I want to see him curtail the struggles a little bit and start to move this thing back in the right direction. It's not going to be linear. It's not like, you know, he's going to be good and mandatory. He'll never have a bad practice.
Starting point is 00:09:23 the rest of the year on his way up to being an elite quarterback. There will be ups and downs, but we just need a little bit more ups here early in the process to balance things out with how they've been so far. But with that being said, that's only one thing out of 10 that I'm watching for as mandatory minicamp kicks off. We've got to talk about things on offense.
Starting point is 00:09:44 I know everybody loves the wide receivers, but I got my eye on the offensive line as well. Do want to let you know that today's episode is brought to you by Square. Again, we're looking at the 10 things that I'm watching for at Tennessee Titans mandatory minicamp number one on my list was Cam Ward getting it going. back in the right direction. But now I want to talk about the rest of the list and we stay on offense where a lot of people are focused on wide receiver and rightfully so.
Starting point is 00:11:49 Wide receiver are probably the most exciting position to watch for the Titans right now. And they are on my list for sure. But the offensive line is something that I'm going to be watching for as well. Now, before we talk about all of that, I do want to thank you again for making a locked-on Titans your first listen each and every day. Remember Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content
Starting point is 00:12:09 all year round, always for free. Make sure that you get subscribed. Stay subscribed to your team every day. Speaking of every day, shout out to my everydayers out there. Tune in Monday through Friday. Couldn't do it without you guys. If you aren't an everydayer,
Starting point is 00:12:19 you need to be one, mandatory minicamp. Two days this week, I'm going to be here to break it all down for you guys. So make sure that you stay locked in with the number one Tennessee Titans podcast in the world. Locked on Titans. But number two on my list is Cornell Tate.
Starting point is 00:12:36 I want to see Cornell Tate. Keep it going. Stay healthy. Continue to make plays. Look like a number one wide receiver. look dominant for the Tennessee Titans. That's what I want to see from him in mandatory minicamp is just keep that thing rolling.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Him and Cam Ward keeping that chemistry going seems simple to me. Number three on my list, though, is Calvin Redley. Yeah, I'm excited about Carnell Tate, but I'm even more excited to see, or I guess more excited, more interested, to see if Calvin Ridley will be a full participant in mandatory minicamp.
Starting point is 00:13:07 So he was not there, or maybe he was rehabbing, maybe they're holding him back. I don't know if he was in the building, present, blah, blah, whatever. But he wasn't participating in practice much early on in OTAs. And then last week, he ramped it up a little bit. And Robert Sala said on the final day
Starting point is 00:13:25 that he would be included in seven on seven for the Titans. Well, I'd like to see Calvin Ridley out there in the full team 11 on 11 drills this week. And for Cam Ward to have Carnell take, Calvin Ridley, Wondell Robinson, his actual true top three wide receivers. I think that would be absolutely critical, not only for the wide receivers, but also for Cam Ward,
Starting point is 00:13:44 who we talked about just a little bit earlier. I think that would be very helpful for Cam Ward to curtail some of his quote-unquote struggles to have his full complement of wide receivers out there and have a better understanding of what it's going to look like, who's going to be where, and who's going to do what. So I want to see Calvin Ridley out there, not only for Calvin Ridley to make plays,
Starting point is 00:14:00 see what kind of shape Calvin Ridley's in. If Calvin Ridley, if Calvin Ridley dominates in his role, I'm not saying Calvin Ridley's going to go, Jamar Chase, blah, blah, this and that, and do that kind of thing. But if Calvin Ridley actually has the best possible season that he can for the Titans, that fundamentally changes everything about what the Titans offense can be. Like Calvin Ridley is one of those X-factor players for the Titans, that his season, whether he does his best or does his worst,
Starting point is 00:14:43 will have a major impact on what the Titans do. So seeing Calvin Ridley get out there with Cam Ward, be healthy, look good, make an impact. Man, Calvin Ridley was burning out there today. Man, Calvin Ridley couldn't be covered out there today. Cam and Calvin just had it going today. That's the sort of update that I want to hear in one of these sessions. Because again, the X-factor potential of a guy like Calvin Ridley,
Starting point is 00:15:09 it just can fundamentally change the Tennessee Titan season. and specifically can change their offense. That's why, if you have Cornell Tate doing what Carnell Tate looks like he could do, and then you have Calvin Ridley who could be a, you know, 700 to 800-yard-wide receiver still on his own, and then you add in Wondale Robinson, who's going over 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons.
Starting point is 00:15:33 I'm not saying all of these guys are going to go over 1,000 yards, but the combination of their three talents together, that's one of the better top-three-wide receiver groups in the entire NFL. But it all hinges on Calvin Ridley being the best version of Calvin Ridley. Again, I'm not expecting Atlanta, Calvin Ridley, or even 2024, Calvin Ridley. But be 600 to 800-yard Calvin Ridley, a true number two wide receiver for the Titans.
Starting point is 00:15:57 And I think that means great things for the offense and for the team. So I'm going to have my eye on Calvin Ridley and Carnel Tate specifically, but lower on the depth chart, the battle for what I'm going to call wide receiver 7. I truly do think, I truly do think that Bryce Oliver is going to be wide receiver 6. He's going to make the team. He can be an outside wide receiver where the Titans have D.K.,
Starting point is 00:16:23 Wondale, Ridley, that can all work in the slot. And behind that, you have the guys we're going to talk about, Osborne, X, Beatty. They're all slot guys. So having a guy like Bryce Oliver, who could play on the outside, and help you on special teams and be a special team's dynamo, that is far too valuable to not make the team.
Starting point is 00:16:47 And when we know that Ridley, Tate, D.K., Iow Manor, and Wondale are going to make this team. That means Oliver would be wide receiver 6. Will they keep a wide receiver 7? And if they do, again, I think it's going to be one of KJ. Osborne and Xavier Restrepa.
Starting point is 00:17:04 That's the real battle for wide receiver. receiver 7. Now maybe Tyrone Montgomery who flashed as he develops, grows. Maybe he's just so good, so explosive, so much talent,
Starting point is 00:17:18 they simply can't get rid of him. They got to keep Tyrone Montgomery around. And he gets that seventh spot over those slot guys. And we say, hey, we have enough with DK, with Ridley, with Wondale. With those
Starting point is 00:17:34 three guys, we have enough in the slot. we don't have to worry about keeping a slot-wide receiver outside of our top five. We don't need that. We have enough within the top five. And then Tyrone Montgomery slides in. Maybe, and I think this player has been incredibly impressive early on, Hank Beattie, the undrafted free agent out of Illinois, has impressed.
Starting point is 00:17:59 And working with Will Levis is the best thing that could ever happen for Tyron Montgomery, Hank Beattie, Jaron Kanick, the rookie tight end, these low-level wide receivers that would otherwise be getting passes from Henden Hooker are now getting passes from Will Levis. And I know you volunteers fans, don't believe it, never have, never will. That's your prerogative. But Will Levis is better than Hendon Hooker. He always has been at the NFL level. Sorry, it's the truth. Even, I'm not saying Levis is good. He's better than Hendon Hooking. All right. So having a quarterback, the quality of Will Levis,
Starting point is 00:18:35 getting to throw you passes, that should help those young guys because typically your QB3 is going to be worse than Will Levis. So that gives them even more of an advantage. So the young wide receiver battle, wide receiver 7, that's the number 4 thing I'm watching for. Again, though, I told you guys,
Starting point is 00:18:54 offensive line. Offensive line. Very, very interesting group. and very, very interesting to watch at mandatory minicamp because Dan Moore and J.C. Latham have not been around for the past couple of practices. I feel like going all the way back to OTAs, not last week, but there was a week gap from, there was last week's OTAs, a gap week,
Starting point is 00:19:24 and then week two of OTAs was three weeks ago, four weeks ago now. I feel like going back to there, Dan Moore and J.C. Latham weren't there. Latham was there at the first week of OTAs, if I remember correctly. Dan Moore might have been there at the first week of OTAs, but after that, they haven't been there. And I think it's important that they get back and start gaining chemistry. Like, how dare Dan Moore not be there if he isn't injured? Now, maybe Dan Moore's banged up, which creates its own set of worries and anxieties.
Starting point is 00:19:58 I don't think that Latham is banged up. Latham was doing some college stuff, getting his degrees and stuff like that recently. Maybe that was a factor in his absence. But regardless, if Dan Moore or J.C. Latham are not out there for mandatory minicamp, that tells us that they're hurt. And we'll talk more about that concept here in a second when we talk about the defense and veterans returning. But number five on my watch list is Dan Moore and J.C. Latham.
Starting point is 00:20:29 Are they going to be back? because if not, that's a whole just session of summer from OTAs to mandatory minicamp where the offensive line did not gain chemistry together. Big concern with the position group that requires the most chemistry
Starting point is 00:20:53 and is also vital to Cam Ward's health. Don't like that. So Dan Moore, J.C. Latham. are they going to be back? And then my number six thing that I'm watching for it, mandatory minicamp for the Titans, right guard battle.
Starting point is 00:21:10 You guys know what I like to do when the Titans put out their miced-up videos or any of their videos from OTAs. I go through them with a fine-tooth comb. I'm literally going frame by frame seeing if I can learn anything from lineups, things like that, where people are at in the plays. I saw a video with the first team offense
Starting point is 00:21:33 and the Kevin Winston miced up video I think it's the punch-out force fumble that he had on Calvin Ridley that was ruled incomplete but Jackson Slater was out there and I had heard initially that Cordell Volson was out there.
Starting point is 00:21:55 So is Jackson Slater starting to get worked into the first team a little bit and given more opportunities there? that's something that I want to watch for. Jackson Slater coming for that right guard spot. Again, I think Austin Schlotman is set at center for right now. As we talk about the starting lineup going into week one, Schlotman is set.
Starting point is 00:22:13 But that right guard spot, Volson and Slater, that's one to watch right there. But with that being said, again, we got to talk the defensive side of the ball. I got four things left that I'm watching for. And a big one is, who returns that has been absent on the defensive side? of the ball. Now, but with that being said, number seven on my list of things that I'm watching for at Tennessee Titans mandatory minicamp absences. Who is going to return?
Starting point is 00:26:18 Because previous sessions were voluntary. this is mandatory minicamp. So if a player isn't out on the field for mandatory minicamp that means they're hurt. Right now we can't know for certain unless the coaches
Starting point is 00:26:37 literally tell us he's banged up, he's coming back from something, he's rehab and he's dealing with something. Unless they confirm it, we can't know because the Titans aren't required to put out any injury information during the summer like this. So we can't know unless
Starting point is 00:26:53 the coach gets asked or the coach volunteers that information. And other than Cordell Flott and Nick Singleton, I haven't heard Robert Sala confirm any of that personally. So Femiola Dejio hasn't participated at all, fallen behind in his development, needs to get back on the field desperately. Is Femiola Dejio going to be back?
Starting point is 00:27:23 Because if not, we can confirm he's hurt, which I think we already know, but we can confirm. Jeffrey Simmons. Simmons worked on a side field last week. I think he's back in the building. He's there. Will he participate in mandatory minicamp, though? That's something to watch because I know that I talk about Jeffrey Simmons' impact in the locker room and leadership, the new culture, building it up. He needs to be a part of that. But he also sets the tone on the field as well.
Starting point is 00:27:49 And I know they don't have pads on, but it's still Jeffrey Simmons. So Simmons are going to set the tone out there. And I think that can make a big impact on his teammates as well, not just in the locker room out on the field. So I would love to see Jeff out there. John Franklin Myers, a little weird that he signed as big of a contract as he did, and he hasn't participated in any of the voluntary stuff.
Starting point is 00:28:10 You need to get in there, John Franklin Myers. So if he's not, then that means that he's rehabbing something, which I hope isn't the case. Cordell Flott working on a side field. Last week, Robert Salas said that Flott should be back for mandatory minnesota. Let's keep our eye on that. So the guy's returning.
Starting point is 00:28:28 I already talked about Ridley being a full participant, Dan Moore, J.C. Latham. So let's see about some of these other guys on the defensive side of the ball. Amani Hooker? Where have you been Amani Hooker? You were terrible last year. You have no right to miss voluntary workouts.
Starting point is 00:28:46 You better be there at mandatory minicamp. And if it's not, again, we know that there must be an injury. Number eight on my list of things to watch at mandatory minicamp. Anthony Hill, does he get any work with the starters? They're letting him call the defense on the second team. He's flashed in practice. Does he get a couple of opportunities
Starting point is 00:29:05 next to Cedric Gray over Cody Barton? I'm watching for that. Number nine, Marcus Harrison, Kevin Winston, in the secondary, the second year players. Are they going to continue to take steps forward? There have been rave reviews on both players. They both could have a massive role in turning this secondary into one of the better ones in the league.
Starting point is 00:29:22 if that happens. Kevin Winston, I think it would be an absolute superstar under Robert Sala. So let's see how they continue to progress in the second area. And then the 10th thing for me, the last thing that I'm looking for it, are there any surprises? Are there any players that show up and show out and catch us off guard? Maybe somebody takes a huge step forward that you didn't expect. One of the young players, maybe a veteran doesn't have a good play. Maybe somebody takes over. Maybe Jackson Slater does take the starting right guard spot.
Starting point is 00:29:51 Maybe Anthony Hill does take the start. the starting middle linebacker spot. Are there any surprises out there? Very curious to see what all unfolds. But again, I'm going to be here to break it all down with you guys no matter what happens. So make sure that you get subscribed, stay subscribed. It's your team every day.
Starting point is 00:30:09 That's going to do it for me today. Folks, as always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland, and this was locked on Titans.
