Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Cam Ward BIG CONCERN in Tennessee Titans Loss to 49ers, WORST Titans Team EVER & Gunnar Helm is GOOD
Episode Date: December 15, 2025The Tennessee Titans got handled by the San Francisco 49ers, but the continued struggles of Cam Ward made the loss sting even more. Ward continues to miss on throws deep down the field and it is a pat...tern that has developed throughout the season. It doesn't mean the jury is out on Ward, but it is certainly an weakness that must improve next year and the Titans can help Ward as well. Overall though, this is the worst Titans team ever and watching them each week is a disaster. The conservative coaching and lack of answers on defense, combined with providing opportunities for the other team to basically have a party every week, make this season specifically excruciating. However, Gunnar Helm continues to shine and he along with the Titans offensive line, deserve some love for this performance. I have to admit, I am sick of watching the 2025 Tennessee Titans,
and I'm tired of seeing Cam Ward's biggest flaw be exposed each and every week.
That and more on today's edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast,
part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast.
I am your host, Tyler Roland Titans fans.
Today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast is brought to you by Fandall.
If you want to be right in the middle of the action this season,
just visit Fandle.com and place your NFL live bets all season long.
On today's show, we are going to break down another terrible loss for the Tennessee Titans
where they were 100% handled by the San Francisco 488.
matters worse. We continue to see some struggles from Cam Warden, something that I think
is a concern going forward that has to be corrected ASAP. Also, we got to talk about
Gunner Helm, who looks like the best Tennessee Titans rookie tight end that we have ever seen
broke a record on Sunday that we're going to talk about. Before we get into all of that,
I do want to thank you for making Locked on Titans, your first listen each and every day.
Remember Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year round, always
for free. Make sure that you get subscribed, stay subscribed. It's your team every day.
Shout out to my everydayers out there. Tune in Monday through Friday. Couldn't do it without you
guys. If you aren't an everydayer, you need to be one. On Friday show, we talked about some
big time coaching news for the Titans. We've got a coaching search right around the corner
if you want to stay as up to date as possible. You got to stay locked in with the Locked on Titans
podcast. But again, Cam Ward's biggest concern continued to show up in this game. Now, as we have
throughout the season. This has been a common theme and that's why some of the things that I'm feeling
although Cam Ward played better in the second half, I'm not going to go away from what I'm seeing out there
just because the same thing happened that's happened all year and the Titans look better in garbage time.
Cam Ward looks better in garbage time when the defense backs up but the deep ball accuracy is 100% a concern
and he misses on too many deep balls. Now as I said last week,
All quarterbacks have misses.
The best quarterbacks in the NFL miss passes.
That happens.
But what the key is, is that you hit more than you miss.
And at this point, Cam Ward does not hit on more of those deep balls than he's missed.
He misses open guys every week.
And again, in the second half, when San Francisco's defense led up a little bit,
when they were playing back more to give him easier possessions,
like we've seen all year long,
but when the game was in the balance, when the game actually mattered,
this game could have been 17 to 17 at halftime.
He has a wide open Van Jefferson.
And again, it's every single week there are these deep ball misses that happen.
It is a pattern and people would be like,
oh, you're gonna take one bad throw and make it,
no, it is a pattern that has been rough all year long
and I would remind you that on passes 30 plus yards
down the field in college in his final year,
year. He wasn't very good on those either. His deep ball accuracy, especially to the outside,
to the sidelines, which is where we're seeing these misses more often than not, it's to the
sideline. When he has to throw deep down the field and outside the numbers, it is a problem.
It was a problem on his college tape. So the fact that it's been a pattern in the NFL
lead you to believe, hey, this is one of his big weaknesses. When we have the conversation about
what does Cam Ward need to get better at?
Where are his weaknesses?
The biggest thing is his accuracy,
specifically is deep ball accuracy,
and then also the turnover problems.
He almost had three interceptions in the game today
if San Francisco's defense could have caught anything.
I guess that's why they're on defense.
And we're not going to sit here and be like,
oh, this almost, this almost, this almost,
but he has not played well the last couple of weeks.
And the past of Gunner Helm is a really good throw.
The pass to Van Jefferson
was a massive underthrow
And look, at the end of the day
I think the solved to this problem
The solved to this problem
Is that Cam Ward stops
Trying to throw a frozen rope
Directly to the hands of the receiver
Because he's missing and he's offshooting
But start to put more touch under it
Start to put more loft under it
Put it up there for your guy to go make a play under
Rather than thinking that you got to put it perfectly to his hands
Let your guy go make a play
give him a chance
because on most of these deep balls
throughout the season
and especially over the last couple of weeks
he's missing four or five yards
off the sideline.
Now, what I think
is the biggest concern with the conversation
here is
that I can't say
what I'm saying right now.
I can't say Cam Ward has to get better
with his accuracy, specifically
the deep ball on the outside.
He has to find a way to be far more accurate
there.
I can't say that.
without people jumping to conclusions about what that means long term.
Oh, so you think Cam Ward's a bust.
Oh, so you think Cam Ward's gonna be terrible at deep balls the rest of his career.
Oh, you're giving up on him already. He's a rookie.
Why does that mean that?
Analyzing what Cam Ward has done.
I want you, if you're somebody who's angry that I'm criticizing Cam Ward.
If you're a pusher, oh, look at his offensive line.
Zero sacks in today's game.
The Titans' offensive line was good today.
The run game for the Titans.
Good in this game. 136 yards on 20 carries. They rush for 6.8 yards per carry.
Tony Pollard went over 100 yards for a second straight game. The offensive line was awesome in this game.
They dominated a matchup that they should have dominated. Zero sacks
and the run game was going. The offensive line was good in this game.
It was Cam Ward early in the game that wasn't good enough.
And again, we get away from the deep balls.
He missed Chim Deky underneath on a couple of throws where he had him
and he just went to the wrong guy.
It was a really bad first half
and we've seen Cam Ward have a lot of really bad first halves this year
and then he plays better in the second half
when the game is basically out of hand.
Now again, me pointing out these realities,
me being real about Cam Ward and telling you,
hey, I want you to tell me what you think Cam Ward's weaknesses are.
Do you think Cam Ward is a perfect player that has no problems?
that Cam Ward is just anything that he's good or bad at, we excuse it this year.
No, it's like I said a couple of weeks ago.
Cam has checked the boxes of what we needed to see to get him to next year.
I have already seen what I want to see from Cam Ward
for him to get the start next year.
He's the quarterback we're building around.
We're getting a coaching staff to build around that's going to build up Cam Ward.
But that doesn't mean that he's a perfect player who is above criticism at all times.
the accuracy must be better
the deep ball accuracy specifically
has to get a lot better
and the turnover problems with the fumbles
has to be cleaned up
it has to be better
why can't I say all of that
without you in your mind going
oh so you think Cam Ward's a bust
oh so you think it's over
oh so you're giving up on him
oh so you think he can't do this
he can't do that like I don't understand
what about today's society leads us to
not being able to analyze a single moment
and the analysis of that moment
not be proclamation towards
this is a definitive statement on the future.
I won't play by those rules
that I can't tell you that Cam Ward's deep accuracy
was a problem in college
and needs to be better now.
It's been a problem this year.
He had pockets, he had time,
he had open receivers and he missed.
That doesn't mean that Cam Ward can't be the franchise
quarterback for this team going forward
and that Cam Ward can't lead the Titans to success.
Those two things are not equal.
So,
it's just frustrating to me that we can't have
serious conversations of, hey,
Cam Ward's really good at some of the
intermediate throws over the middle of the field.
Cam Ward's really good at getting
some of those throws to the sideline
on short-to-intermediate stuff.
Cam Ward's really good at playmaking,
buying time in the pocket and finding guys
after he's got out.
Cam Ward's a gamer
who will be ready to play in the biggest moments
Cam Ward has a great work ethic
Cam Ward has showed great command of the offense
and command of the huddle
and understanding his play and being the leader for his team
he's done all those things well
and we can build on those
but he is far from perfect
and we are seeing on display
his biggest concerns the last couple of weeks
ball security
putting the ball in trouble
accuracy, especially the deep accuracy.
Like, I'm sorry, we can still have hope that Cam Ward is the answer for this team
and still be excited about what's happened
while acknowledging all of the circumstances with the bad wide receiver play
and the struggling offensive line play and the bad coaching
and the bad development that Cam Ward's gotten his first year.
All of that can be true.
But when Cam Ward has a pocket and there's a wide open guy on a slug
down the sideline and he misses him and we've seen him miss that guy multiple times
throughout the season. I can't just wish that away and throw that away like it
never happened. We can't do that either. So it's just frustrating. It's just
frustrating that we're seeing some of these major issues and we can't have
conversations around them because some of you guys just don't want to acknowledge
what we're seeing. And not only that but when you add the fact that that
Cam Ward struggles in the last couple of weeks
because what we hope to see was Cam Ward get better
as the season went on and Cam Ward start to really progress
and we saw the game against Houston and the game against Seattle
and you're like okay he's going to turn a corner here
and the rest of the team has gotten better
the run game has gotten better
the O line has gotten better
the defense has gotten better over the last five to six weeks
although they were terrible today
the defense has gotten better statistically
you look at multiple marks they have improved
over the second third of the season.
And Cam Ward really hasn't matched that.
If Cam Ward did match that,
the Tennessee Titans might have actually been in that football game.
Again, it would have been 17 to 7 at halftime if he hits Van Jefferson.
So the fact that we've seen other parts of the team get a little bit better
and tick up just a little bit, but Cam Ward hasn't really matched that,
it's frustrating.
And the fact that he hasn't matched it
is because of his biggest concerns and the weaknesses
that must improve going forward.
And if we don't acknowledge that,
you think Cam Ward isn't going to acknowledge that?
How can you improve on anything if you don't acknowledge it?
So again, I'm sick of watching this football team,
but part of that is Cam Ward is just struggling in some areas
that give you concern.
And I wish that wasn't the case.
Because last week, there was the throw to DK.
This week, there's the throw to Van Jefferson.
And it's like if Cam Ward hits these plays,
the Titans are in a much better position
So with that being said though
Again it's not just Cam Ward
He's obviously just the most important piece to all of this
But again I am sick of the 2025
Tennessee Titans
I do not like this football team

Titans fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast, breaking down the Tennessee Titans 37 to 24 loss to the San Francisco.
49ers do want to thank you for making Locked-on Titans.
Your first listen, thank you for making the Locked-on Podcast Network,
the number one sports podcast network.
But with that being said, I am sick of this football team.
And I said it in my short video after the game.
I love the Tennessee Titans.
I mean, if you don't watch on YouTube, look behind me here.
You know, I've been a Titans fan for 26 years now.
Like, I'm in with the team.
I'll always be a Titans fan.
I'll always be covering the team for as long as I can.
I'm not going anywhere.
but God, I'm sick of the 2025 Tennessee Titans.
I am sick of this team.
We just talked about Cam Ward struggles.
It's like we can't even get a regular normal Cam Ward breakout game.
We can't even like the Levis or the Mario de game.
You know, the four touchdowns, the Cam Ward throws for 300,
throws three touchdowns, the Titans win.
Like we can't even get one of those.
All right.
And then you add in, I am so tired of Grandpa Mike McCoy.
I'm so tired of Grandpa Mike McCoy.
They're down 14.
They're down 17.
It's third and long.
It's third and eight.
It's third and 12.
You're across the 50.
You're all these different obvious things.
And you're running wide receiver screens.
You're running wide receiver screens.
On top of the field goal decisions that we've seen for Mike McCoy.
And again, a lot of the issues that I have,
rarely do I get really upset about something that I haven't been seeing all season long and to see it all season long all season long with these conservative play calls these surrender play calls whether just like whatever we're not getting it like in my mind every time they run a screen on like a wide receiver screen I could dig a running back screen a running back screen might actually give you an opportunity to catch the defense slip and you a fake a
chip you slip out you catch you go with taj spears something like that but these bubble screens out
to the wide receivers you think you're getting 12 13 14 yards on these bubble screens outside the reason
that those bubble screens and stuff like that work are because they're done on early downs where
teams are actually worried about the run game and then you can catch a team with their pants down
and get a number's advantage on the outside on the perimeter because the box is loaded worried about
the run on a rundown running them on a pat and
an obvious passing down, you're not going to find success with that consistently and they
haven't. I'm tired of this coaching staff. And look, this is why DeNard Wilson is a good
defensive coordinator. He's good. He's not great. And I don't think he's a head coach
yet either. But I am not here for the, oh, DeNard Wilson needs to be kept around. Like if the
Coach wants to keep DeNard Wilson around, whatever.
But if the coach is like, hey, I'm getting rid of, it's an offensive coach.
He's like, I'm getting rid of DeNard Wilson.
I'll find my own defensive coordinator.
I'm not going to be mad about it.
They have been killed on those bootlegs all year long.
Hey, credit to DeNord Wilson for improving the defense.
And they got a Pizza Hut delivery driver out there starting at safety during this game.
Mike Brown, Kevin Winston, Xavier Woods, all get hurt in the game.
Three safeties all get hurt in the game
They got Kendall Brooks out there
I think they had
Kair Elam playing safety
At one point during the game
After Kendall Brooks got banged up
But like you got a Pizza Hut delivery driver
Out there playing safety
So excuse me
That's what it does to me
I'm not gonna kill DeNard Wilson
too hard or anything like that
I think that he is a good
But he's not so great
That you know you gotta pound the table
To keep DeNard Wilson around
What are we doing there?
And then again,
I'm tired of being the other team's parade.
I'm sick of it.
The 49ers fans are having a party.
Think of what it must be like.
Think of what it must be like to be the 49ers.
Kittles making plays, McCaffrey's scoring,
Purdy's running around like he's Michael Vick,
you know what I mean?
The defense is making plays.
Cam Ward's missing deep balls.
You're 10 and 4.
You're dominating this JV team
Again, it's like having your little brother in a headlock and you're giving him a nougie.
You're wrestling and your little brother squirming trying to do the best that he can,
blah, blah, blah, and you're like laughing, laughing.
I'm tired of it every week like the Jacksonville.
And again, the game against Seattle.
The Titans are down 23 to 3.
They're down 30 to 10.
They make it close at the end, but they got stomped.
Houston, they're down 13 to 3
they make it close at the end with a late touchdown
and they lose by 3
but they got handled in that game
pretty much all game long
until that final drive where Cam Ward made it work
Jacksonville is 25 to 3
you know they're just
they're getting stomp this team's terrible
this is the worst Titans team
ever and I'm just sick of watching
them and Cam Ward struggling
doesn't make if Cam Ward was playing awesome
and they were losing
Like, that would at least be workable, you know what I mean?
But in this game, and for the last couple of weeks, other than the Cleveland win,
and again, let's be honest here.
I'm happy that they beat Cleveland.
I enjoyed the win, but when it comes to Cam Ward's performances,
we're putting on a brave face here.
He hasn't been good for a month.
It wasn't the worst of those games.
Like, but man, I'm just sick of this team.
I can't wait for the off-season.
We have, you know, three games left,
and Titans will probably win next week.
Patrick Mahomes, ACL.
And add to it,
the Giants didn't win,
and Jackson Dart, get off my lawn about Jackson Dart.
That dude is insane.
He's always hurt.
Throwing multiple intercept.
Shador Sanders was absolute garbage against the Bears.
You know,
the Raiders got stomped
the Ravens
won but
no Dremont Jones sack
I think when I checked after that game
and the Steelers win last week
like the Ravens may not make the playoffs
it's just God man
everything
literally everything
but you guys know me
what I like to do is
I like to finish on some positivity
so Gunner Helm is the
best rookie tight end in Tennessee
Titans history. I called
his touchdown. I told you the route
it was going to happen on. I told you who they
were going to attack on defense. Let's talk
about Gunnard Helm, the offensive
line, Calell Mullings,
Jalen Harrell, there are some things
to be excited about here.
Do want to let you guys
know that today's episode is brought to you

Let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
We talked about Cam Ward's biggest concerns being exposed the last couple
weeks and why that doesn't mean that he's a bust or anything like a lot of you guys
try to say it just means we know where Cam Ward must improve going forward overall though
it is a part of the worst experience I've ever had with a Tennessee Titans football team I'm sick
of this team but there was some good stuff in this game that we should be excited about number
one gunner helm guys I'm going to take a little bit of a victory lap here on the gunner helm
situation. I told you guys that Gunner Helm was going to be awesome. I said he was
tied in one from the jump. This guy needs to play more than Chigacanquo. It took forever for
the Tennessee Titans coaching staff to figure it out. No shock, I guess. But Gunnard
four catches, 49 yards, had a touchdown, had the 34 yard touchdown long, and again we
talked about it. The up and out route
against a linebacker of the San Francisco 49ers. We talked about D. Winters. We talked about D. Winters
We talked about that as a potential matchup for the Titans with Gunner Helm
and they caught the San Francisco 49ers in a zone coverage
where the linebacker was responsible for the outbreaking route of Gunner Helm
and then Helm bent it upfield down the sideline.
Cam put it on him and it was a touchdown, well deserved for Gunner Helm who has been awesome this year
and seeing some people nationally start to notice how good that Gunner Helm is
he's gotten so much better throughout the season as a blocker.
He is so reliable as a pass catcher
He is a weapon
He is a good route runner
He can catch the ball and get up field
He again record breaking day
For Gunner Helm
He passed Bo Skafe
For the most catches
By a rookie tight end
And Titan's history
Congratulations Gunner Helm
And at this point
I think
He's about 50 or 60 yards
Behind Chicka Conquo
From his rookie year
he had 450 yards as a rookie.
Gunner Helm is about 60 yards behind Chicka Conquo
to set the record for most receiving yards by a tight end.
So if he passes that, it is without a doubt
the best rookie tight end season in Tennessee Titans history
and it's kind of crazy because it hasn't felt like that, right?
We haven't seen Gunner Helm have crazy breakout performances
or even have consistent production.
And again, I remind you that a big part of that
is the Tennessee Titans coaching staff has no clue what they're doing,
didn't know what they were doing with Gunner Helm
and continued to play Chica Conquo 40, 48, 50 snaps a game
while playing Gunner Helm 15, 20, 25 snaps less than Chigacalco
it didn't make any sense whatsoever throughout the season
it makes even less sense now knowing what we know about Gunner Helm
but again I think that yeah and I see Tyler Gunner Helm had back to back off sides
that's so dumb like that is a simple look over to the referee
and the rep to say back up that is not like Gunner Helm's a
dumb player, doesn't know what he's doing. That's a complete non-issue for me in that one.
But anyways, moving right along, so excited about Gunner Helm, could not possibly be more
hype and could not possibly feel more right about Gunner Helm and what he was able to do.
I called the Titans drafting Chigacanquo during that draft.
I figured Gunner Helm would be a good player and should be the real tight end one for this team.
I feel like tight end is just one of those positions like I see a tight end in college.
I think they're good.
I'm going to, like, have a good understanding of that.
It's just one of those things that I tend to get right, I guess.
And there are positions that I certainly seem to get wrong quite a bit.
But tight end, I feel pretty locked in on.
And good for Gunner Helm, he deserves it.
One of the best bright spots of this team.
Him and Cam Ward together for the next five years is going to feed families, as they say.
Also, this offensive line, Kevin Zeitler went out during this game after we initially starting.
Dan Moore did not play in Ali Udo's story.
started in front of him. This offensive line gave up zero sacks after giving up one sack last week
to Miles Garrett, and it was right before halftime in a weird situation. The Titans ran the ball
very well. I mean, that's 180 yards last week, 100 nearly 140 yards, 136. This week,
the Titans have run for over 300 yards in back-to-back weeks, and yeah, you could say Cleveland
is a bad team, but Cleveland had a top 10 run defense. Yeah, you could say San Francisco
doesn't have the best run defense.
They're 12th in the NFL coming into the week,
but this is a really good football team,
and the Titans have ran for 300 rushing yards in two weeks
and one sack, 300 rushing yards and one sack in two weeks.
The Titans' offensive line deserves a ton of credit
for how they've been playing.
And again, that's what makes it disappointing
that Cam Ward hasn't really upticked his level of play
because the offensive line has certainly been a lot better.
You know what I mean?
And the run game's been there.
So big credit to the offensive line,
but it does make you look like
why do the Titans pay Dan Moore
$20 million a year
when Ali Udo comes in
and you don't really even notice?
Also, I know J.C. Latham got an illegal block in the back
but J.C. Latham I thought was awesome in this game.
He gave up what, literally I tweeted out
that I thought J.C. Latham was awesome in this game
and as I hit send on the tweet,
he gave up his only pressure of the game.
Literally, like incredible reverse chinks.
incredible reverse jinks power
that I seem to have
but overall that has to make you very excited
because a lot of what we're seeing
on the offensive line this year for the Titans
is going to be the offensive line
for the Titans next year
Cushenberry they could cut Cushenberry
and go to Corey Levin
but they will have to eat some dead money
whether it's post June 1st or not
that's not a clean cut
Dan Moore makes too much to be gone
Kevin Zitler could be replaced
but we know that
we're gonna see Skoronsky
we're gonna see Latham we're gonna see more
we could see Levin and Levin
was out there playing no matter what, so even if Cushingberry is cut, we're probably just
going to get Corey Levin at center, which I'm fine with going cheap there and maybe throwing
some money at right guard at like a Wyatt Teller or maybe a one-year deal for a Joel
Betonio or, you know, something like that. We'll look into options as they pop up. There are other
options out there for sure. But overall, you've got to be happy about the offensive line.
Hello Mullings! Superman Mullings finally got a carry. He got a short yardage, third down
carry that he converted. Shout out to the rookie. Finally getting on the field there, that was his only
carry of the day but again three yards got the first down that's what we wanted to see
and we could have seen that from kellow mulling's all season i would be a lot happier about that
situation jalen harrell has three sacks in the last five weeks i think it is he has gotten
pressure jalen harrel looks like a real rotation player now jalen harrel isn't going to be a starter
for the tennessee titans but he looks like a good depth player could be good like if the
titan you need to have a defensive line rotation if you're a good football team you need to have about
seven guys on the defensive line that you can rotate in and out for pass rush
situations and keep your guys fresh. The best teams in the NFL have that
depth on the defensive line. If you look at sweat, Simmons, Sebastian Joseph Day,
Jalen Harrell, Femio, that's five right there. And I think if you have a veteran
edge rusher and you get an edge rusher early in the draft, like think if they
you know, if they added a guy like Adafo-O-A and drafted
Rubin Bain or Arvel Reitz or something like that.
Those are just examples.
I'm not pounding the table for any individual guy,
but you could see how this pass rush group,
this defensive line group,
could get a lot better this all season
if the right things are at it.
And Jalen Harrell is a part of that.
Marcus Harris, he had some catches on him
against Ricky Pearson and stuff,
but Marcus Harris had a PBU,
he had some tackles.
Like Marcus Harris, again, I do believe is an answer
as a passing down slot guy for the Titans.
next year, Kevin Winston got hurt in this game.
That was unfortunate.
He had a hamstring issue.
People are so ready to hate on Kevin Winston.
I don't understand it with what he showed us this year
and the limited snaps coming back from an ACL as a rookie,
like, how could you not be overly excited about Kevin Winston?
Even, you know, he gives up...
That pass took forever.
The first touchdown to Joanne Jennings
that was on Kevin Winston in man coverage,
zero pressure on Brock Purdy on that play yet all the time in the world
for a long developing route
and it's Kevin Winston one-on-one against a wide receiver
like I don't expect him to win on those all the time
he's his safety but regardless
unfortunately Kevin Winston got hurt
hopefully we get him back
because he's one of the lone bright spots on the team
that make you excited to watch the defensive side of the ball
but again on tomorrow's show
we're gonna talk about how you can help Cam Ward
with some of his weaknesses
what are some of the best ways to do that this off season
and how they need to let him struggle.
Mike McCoy needs to let Cam Ward struggle
if he really wants to do what's best for Cam Ward going forward
none of this conservative nonsense.
So a lot to break down on tomorrow's show.
That is going to do it for me today though, folks.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland,
and this was Locked on Titans.
Thank you.
