Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Cam Ward MUST STEP UP for Tennessee Titans to make PLAYOFF PUSH in 2026 & O-Line Has to TAKE A LEAP
Episode Date: February 12, 2026The Tennessee Titans need to go out and add a lot of talent in this offseason using both free agency and the draft, but Cam Ward improving his game and fitness level will also be a key to that kind of... jump. If Ward doesn't improve as he should, none of the other moves will be enough to take the Titans out of the abyss. That isn't just on Ward though as the offensive line has to play more like they did at the end of the season from the start of 2026. That puts a spotlight on the two offensive tackle, Dan Moore and JC Latham, but the other side of the line of scrimmage, the defensive line, needs to become a dominate force under Robert Saleh as well. Finally, the Titans secondary simply can't be full remodeled this offseason with too many holes to fill, but Kevin Winston, Amani Hooker and Marcus Harris could speed things up significantly if they play their best football. The Tennessee Titans can have a perfect offseason, but if Cam Moore doesn't get better,
they're not going to make the playoffs.
I'll explain on today's edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast Network,
your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast.
I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans on today's show.
I am going to talk about the perfect offseason that I put together for the Tennessee Titans,
but how it won't matter unless the players currently on the team improve.
And that includes, of course, Cam Ward.
Before we dive in, do want to thank you for making Locked-on Titans.
Your first listen each and every day.

Speaking of every day, shout out to my every day.
dayers out there. Tune in Monday through Friday. Couldn't do it without you guys. If you
aren't in every day or you need to be one. We're about to take off into the all season with
roster cuts, re-signings, free agency, the draft. If you want to stay as up to date, as informed,
as entertained as a Tennessee Titans fan could possibly be, make sure that again, you get
subscribed, stay subscribed, and stay locked in to the number one Tennessee Titans
podcast in the world, locked on Titans. But with that being said, again, I've talked about
perfect off season for the Tennessee Titans all week long.
We went through free agency, we went through the draft, we went through roster cuts and
re-signings, go back and check any of those episodes out.
But the point is no matter what the Titans add to the roster, they need the
players currently on the team to improve.
They need internal improvement and that of course includes Cam Ward.
And I know anytime that you get anywhere close to criticism of
Cam Ward, people freak out and lose their minds.
But think about what I am saying to you.
I am saying that the rookie version of Cam Ward has to get better.
I'm saying that Cam Ward has to improve from year one to year two in the NFL.
Tell me down below in the comments or hit me up on social media,
hit me up in the Locked on Titans every day or group chat.
Is that a hot take that Cam has to be better in year two than he was in year one?
I don't think that I'm saying something that controversial by saying that.
You know, like that is obvious.
Any rookie on the football team that we talk about
needs to get better from year one to year two.
But of course, with Cam Ward being the quarterback of the team,
being the star of the team,
being the leader of the team and the franchise,
of course he will have to take steps forward.
And quite honestly,
that is why I was so excited about the addition
a Brian Dable.
When we talked about Brian Dable being hired as offensive coordinator,
one of the reasons that everyone was excited for that
is because of what he could do for Cam Ward's development.
So me here now a couple weeks later saying,
hey, Cam's got to get better this year.
That shouldn't be something that makes you angry.
Because two weeks ago,
we all talked about how Brian Dable making Cam Ward better
was one of the reasons we were most excited.
Here is the reality.
Cam has to have better footwork.
He's got to be more consistent with his mechanics
He's got to be more consistently accurate
Out on the field
He's got to use his legs more
He's got to throw the ball within the timing of the play better
I've been going back through
And my film breakdown on Cam Ward season
Is going to drop on the TikTok Titans channel
Next week
Probably on Monday or Tuesday morning
It takes a lot of time to go back through 17 games
All right and chart every single play
But the point is
while I'm halfway through that, you know, tape watch,
it's clear that Cam Ward took some sacks
that he shouldn't have taken, could have got rent in the ball,
make better decisions.
There are some guys that Cam Ward missed
that would have resulted in bigger plays
that ended up being throwaways or small gains
because he didn't see it.
Those are natural things that a rookie quarterback has to improve on,
and it's all about consistency.
So that, again, is one of the reasons
I'm so excited about Brian Dable,
being the offensive coordinator, and being in Cam Ward's ear,
because he will demand every single play that consistency,
demand that the mechanics are right, every single play where,
you know, after hearing from Jeffrey Simmons on busing with the boys,
I think it's logical to conclude that maybe Brian Callahan wasn't such a stickler for the details.
Maybe Brian Callahan wouldn't jump down Cam Ward's throat to say,
hey, your feet were in the wrong place on that throw.
I don't care if you completed the pass or not.
That is not how we do it.
That sort of intensity, that sort of attention to detail,
that sort of consistent focus was obviously not there with Brian Callahan.
So if you take better coaching and natural progression from Cam Ward to a rookie,
from a rookie to a second year player, there should be improvement.
And if what we saw Cam Ward already do, the playmaking, the arm talent,
already reading defenses at the end of the year
and knowing where to go with the ball, faster, quicker,
more in rhythm, more accurate.
If you take the improvements we saw in the second half of the year
and you put that on the turbo booster,
if Super Mario eats the mushroom
while already doing that,
Cam is going to turn into a top 10 quarterback in the NFL.
And if Cam Moore does that,
plus some of the additions that we've talked about this week
in the perfect off season for the Titans?
That is how you make a playoff run.
That's how you go from worst team in the NFL,
three wins in back-to-back seasons,
to making the playoffs.
Do I think the Titans are going to make the playoffs?
Not right now, no.
How can I say that without knowing what they do
in free agency or the draft?
But what I am saying is if the Titans
have a perfect off-season
and hit all their needs,
and then Cam Ward and some of the other guys internally make jumps,
this team will absolutely be good enough to make the playoffs.
Now, say Cam Ward doesn't go up, you know, 50%.
He only goes up 25 in year two, which is fine.
I don't expect year two Cam Ward to be the best version of Cam Ward that we ever see.
He'll probably continue to progress.
But let's say he only makes half of the jump that I'm describing right now.
but the Titans have a perfect off season
and hit all their needs in a major way,
they still have a chance.
But I wouldn't call it likely
that they make the playoffs.
But again, if you get
the other version of that,
and Cammore does have a perfect offseason himself
with the coaching for Brian Dable
and he goes up 50 to 100% better than he was last year
and the Titans have a good off season,
maybe not perfect, but good off season.
I think that might be enough also.
There are multiple paths here to get to the playoffs for the Titans,
but they're going to include either Cam Ward going nuts and a good offseason
or Cam Ward taking a good step forward and a perfect offseason.
Those are the two paths that it would take.
Now again, it's not all on Cam Ward.
We learned in the last two Super Bowls, if you didn't know already,
football is a team sport and the entire team has to get better as well.
And that's why I'm going to talk about the backfield, the weapons on offense, the offensive line,
the guys who've got to step up on defense, because it can't be only Cam Ward with the responsibility to improve.
And you can't only rely on off-season acquisitions to turn this thing around either.
You need internal improvement, like I talked about at the beginning of the show.
And let's do a combination of who needs to improve internally combined with what we've done,
with this perfect off season for the Titans and talk about, you know, making this a playoff
football team. Do want to let you know that today's episode is brought to you by Indeed.

Fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast talking about what needs to happen internally for the Tennessee Titans to cap up this playoff push off season that we've been talking about all week long.
Now, want to dive into the offensive depth chart for you guys.
and give you a big picture view of what we've done here.
So at quarterback again, Cam Ward has to take a step forward.
But I want to sign a good veteran backup.
Mitch Trubisky is a guy that I would love with Cam Ward.
Tyler Huntley, Snoop Huntley, Tyrod Taylor makes a ton of sense as well.
Heck, I would take a guy like Kirk Cousins.
If that's, I don't think Kirk Cousins would want to come to Tennessee
because he's going to want a chance to compete to start, I guess.
If James Winston gets cut, those guys would make perfect.
sense for Cam Ward to help him improve, you know, in that year two process where
Brandon Allen, see ya, you know, you were a Brian Callahan guy.
But that also includes Tajay Spears.
I see you guys saying to me, you know, the Titans don't need to worry about running
back as much.
They need to, you know, let Tajay Spears finally be the lead running back.
Guys, I just don't think that that is possible.
Look at what Taji Spears has done in his three years with the Titans.
453 rushing yards, two touchdowns, 385 receiving.
That's pretty good right there.
I mean, you know, we're talking about big time total yardage there, 833.
But since that rookie season, 536 total scrimmage yards in year two, five touchdowns.
Last year, only 547 total scrimmage yards.
and two touchdowns.
Like, Taji Spears has done absolutely nothing
to prove that he is capable of being a lead running back.
I think it is proven right now
that he is not capable of doing that.
But what the Titans do need from Tadier Spears
is to play more games.
He played 17 games, his rookie season.
And again, 838 total scrimmage yards.
That's pretty good.
But year two, only 12 games.
year three, only 13 games.
He's missing four or five games and back-to-back seasons.
He's leaving games early.
If Tadier Spears, I don't even need Tagee
to improve that much as a player.
He's already very dynamic with the ball in his hands,
can catch the ball out of the back field.
He's a guy who's great in pass protection.
Tage is a hard nose blocker in pass protection.
He'll stick his nose up to a linebacker
and knock him out of the way.
He's good in all three phases
that a running back needs to be good in.
But he's got to stay on the field.
That's the level of improvement
that I want to see from Taji Spears.
And that's why for me,
I want the Titans to go out
and sign a value running back in free agency
like a Tyler Algier,
like a Rashad White,
like a Brian Robinson.
Heck, go get Breece Hall.
That's what you feel inclined to do.
I'm not going to pound the table
for a Breece Hall.
But, okay, I'm not going to be mad either.
but they need to get a true power running back
because you simply can't rely on Taji Spears.
I also think they need to get a running back in the draft.
There are some really good running backs in this draft class.
Mike Washington,
I think a guy like Emmett Johnson,
very good player,
if they want to maybe get a replacement for Tage Spears in the wings
who can do similar things because you can't count on Tadjay,
maybe a guy like Demmon Claiborne.
From Georgia Tech, could make some sense there too.
I'm just saying like, the Titans will be a much better football team
and have a better chance at making the playoffs
if Taji Spears just stays on the field.
Whatever he has to do to get his body in a position
to last the entire season is what he needs to do this offseason.
Now, if we go back to the draft,
there were concerns about Tadier Spears' health
because he didn't have an ACL in his knee
and why that hasn't been a major issue for him, health has.
So you could say there were medical concerns
and there have been medical concerns throughout his career.
So he's going into a contract year,
the final year of his rookie deal.
If he wants to ensure that he gets a good contract,
he needs to make sure that he stays on the field.
And that sort of internal improvement
and having Tage Spears available every single week,
that would help the Titans get to the playoffs as well.
But even bigger for me is the white.
receiver room. Yes, the Titans need to add wide receivers in free agency in a perfect
off season. I had them getting Michael Pittman Jr. to be the starting X receiver.
But make no mistake about it. Chim D.K.
Elyke Elyon, have to get better. Steve Smith, the Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens wide receiver,
does a podcast. He actually did a breakdown on Chim D.K. I thought it was kind of surface level
to be honest with you. I thought it was a lot of cliches and this and that.
But one thing that did stand out to me from Steve Smith's analysis on Chimdeka
was his in-breaking routes.
When he breaks inside, he needs to, he has great speed,
but he needs to snap his routes inside, not kind of bend them inside,
which you're going at a tough, at a fast speed.
It is hard to snap that route and not in-break.
But if he doesn't snap his in-breaking routes in,
and he's rolling through his routes,
he's not going to utilize his speed to the max capacity.
So Chim D.K.
has to improve as a route runner in year two.
And if he does that,
part of the Titans' wide receiver problems are going to be answered
because D.K. is going to be a true number two wide receiver in the NFL
if he becomes a better short and intermediate route runner.
especially in Brian Dable's system
where he could play in the slot,
he could play the Z position and go in motion.
If he's a better route runner,
it's going to give him more versatility out on the field,
which is going to make him a better weapon in the offense.
Now, Elyeo Manor,
I am not going to
give you some sort of analysis that you probably aren't aware of.
He's got to catch the freaking ball.
Catch the ball.
We knew coming out of college that I.O. had some drop issues.
Why do you think that he fell so far in the draft to pick 136?
He had some drop issues.
20% drop rate for Elyke-Iro Manor.
Last year was a rookie.
That is despicably bad.
We can't really have you on the field.
Now last year,
the Titans had no wide receivers whatsoever.
No wide receivers whatsoever.
And it's a 20% drop rate on on target passes.
He got thrown the ball 89 times and caught 41 of them.
His drop rate percentage is only 5.6 on pro football reference and that's total.
But I'm talking about on target.
Catchable passes. 20%.
Like, again, you simply cannot be on the field.
If that's what you're doing.
We can't trust you.
We can't rely on you.
Now, I think because of that,
the Titans can't expect Elylech-Iomanner
to be a starting wide receiver.
They need to get a real X-wide receiver
who can be ahead of him at first
and make him earn it and give him competition.
Maybe you bring in a wide receiver in the draft
if you can't get one in free...
Say they get Wondell Robinson in free agency,
who's a slot wide receiver.
I would love that.
I would love Wondell Robinson.
If they get Wondell Robinson in free agency,
and they don't get a bigger physical wide receiver in free agency,
like a Romeo Dobbs, for example.
Dobbs is an X wide receiver.
Then go get a Chris Brazel.
Go get a Chris Bell.
Go get a Ted Hurst.
You know, one of these guys who can be that big physical X
and make Elye O'Manor prove it.
Make him earn it.
So we can talk about Cam Ward,
but if Taji Spears doesn't stay on the field,
if Elek Ayo Manor doesn't catch the football,
if Chim Dike doesn't run better routes,
the perfect off season isn't going to do enough
to get the Titans to the playoffs
because they need those guys to improve
and the offensive line.
I don't need to spend a lot of time here, in my opinion,
because it is clear that the O line has to play better,
but what gives me hope that they can
is that the Titans' offensive line played a lot better after the buy,
after the clown of hands
were out of the building.
The Titans' offensive line
really took steps forward.
But they need to get a more consistent right guard in there
because Kevin Zitler was up and down
with injury and age at the end of the season.
J.C. Latham has to be better from the jump.
And I know he was dealing with an injury
early in the season,
but he's got to be better right away
and prove that he was a top 10 pick
because Joe Alt is an all-time talent
and looks like he might be a Hall of Fame
offensive lineman.
he's elite already.
Already.
Talisei Fawaga,
Troy Fattano,
Olu Faschino
who I liked better than J.C.
Latham for most of the draft process.
I heard that the Titans
liked Latham better
and I changed my rankings.
I'll admit it to you guys.
I didn't want to look dumb
when they picked Latham over Fashanu.
So I was like, you know what,
if Bill Callahan really likes J.C. Latham better
and I know,
because some people tell me things
and I hear things sometimes,
I'm not a scooper, so I don't really break that information to people.
But if I, like last year, I was told at the combine,
the Titans are taking Cam Ward.
I was told.
So, of course, I'm going to turn my focus to what's important for Titans fans.
I owe you guys to give you the right information.
So I was like, all right, if the Titans like Latham better,
maybe I'm wrong.
Bill Callahan knows more about football than I will ever know.
maybe I should give J.C. Latham more credit.
But I like Fashtonu the whole time.
Say that's playing the fence if you want.
That's fine. I don't care.
I'm just telling you guys the truth of what happened there.
But there are guys who were drafted after Latham
and Armarius Mims with the Bengals.
Like Latham right now would be fifth best
out of those five guys that were drafted
early in the first round at offensive tackle.
He'd be fifth best.
That can't continue if the Titans are going to make the playoffs.
He's got to learn to be dominant.
And in the second half of the year,
he only gave up two sacks and eight games,
was better in the ground game.
I'm going to do a J.C. Latham film breakdown in a couple of weeks.
Because I'm going through the entire offense right now.
But if Cushingberry is better off the Achilles,
Peter Skoronsky's already a top five guard in the league.
Dan Moore is who Dan Moore is.
I don't think we can expect any improvement there.
What they need is they need the rest of the offensive line to be better
so Dan Moore doesn't hurt that.
as much.
Because you can't have Dan Moore being
average to below average
and then have the offensive line not be really good.
That doesn't work.
So, the offensive line has to be
the offensive line
that was in the second half of the season,
the entire season.
And that will be a massive,
massive improvement for the Tennessee Titans.
As we saw, the Titans scored 20 points
in four out of five games.
They ran the football for over 100 yards.
multiple times in the second half.
Cam Ward had great games against great teams.
Like, if the offensive line could do that,
along with the improvements.
And remember, I wanted to add Dylan Parham
at right guard.
So Scoronsky stays awesome.
Cushing Barry gets more consistent
coming off the Achilles after a year.
Dylan Parham is a good addition at right guard.
J.C. Latham plays like he did at the end of the year.
Dan Moore just stays the level that Dan Moore is at.
with a few additions like
that would be how
the Tennessee Titans would make the playoffs.
But we got to talk about the defensive side of the ball as well
where there needs to be big time improvements
from some obvious spots for the team.
Do want to let you know that today's episode
is brought to you by Fan Duol Sportsbook.
Look, the winner games are here, folks.
And if you're anything like me,
you're locking in for the events that you only get to see
on the biggest stage every four years.
And that's why following the winter games on Fandall
just makes so much sense.
From metal counts to individual events
to finding your angle on the sports that you care about the most,
Fandall gives you more ways to stay connected to the action.
The drama of curling matches that start slow
and somehow get intense, fast, speed skating races
that are decided by inches.
Hockey games that feel different right from the opening phase.
every niche event becomes must watch when you're fully locked in to the competition.
Fandall keeps the entire Olympic experience engaging from start to finish.
The winter games are on and there's no better way to follow them than with Fandle.
It's Fandle. Play your game.
Fans, let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast
talking about the internal improvements that need to pair with a perfect off season to get the
Tennessee Titans back into the playoffs.
Again, is it likely? No, it's not.
But is it impossible? No, it's not.
So you're telling me there's a chance.
Before we dive into the defense, do want to thank you again
for making Locked on Titans, your first listen each and every day.

by joining the Locked on Titans Every Day or club
and you get a bunch of benefits as well.
So, I mean, it's a home run at the end of the day.
But with that being said, again,
looking at what we've done in the all season,
what needs to improve with the roster
on the defensive line.
The Titans need two players
to take steps forward as a pass rushers.
Tavondre Sweat and Femiola Deja.
Now, I want to bring in help
I want to sign
Trey Hendrickson
or Adafay Oway
or Quitty Pay
in free agency.
Let's get some help
on the edge.
I want to get a backup
defensive end
like a Sam Williams
a Yurturgros
a Cuellin Farrell
a J. Espinessa.
So I want to hit it twice.
And then in the draft
I want to go get
Ruben Bain
Arvel Reese
David Bailey
somebody like that
to
also be on the edge. We just saw the Seattle Seahawks.
We just saw the Philadelphia Eagles.
A couple years ago, we saw Aaron Donald in the defensive front of the Rams.
We saw the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive line with Tom Brady.
Go back to the New York Giants teams that won the Super Bowl in their NASCAR package.
Guys, either you have a Tom Brady, you have a Patrick Mahomes,
or you have an elite defensive line,
which is way deeper than four guys.
Don't just say, oh, we got starters, we don't need all those guys.
No, they do.
They need Ruben Bain, Femiola DeGio,
Trey Hendrickson, Sam Williams, plus Jihad Ward.
They need all that, plus Jalen Harrell.
They need all that.
you need waves and waves and waves of defensive line.
So, I don't think that Tavondre sweat needs to be one of their primary interior rushers.
Jeffrey Simmons is the best in the entire NFL as an interior rusher.
The best in the world.
Okay?
Bring back Sebastian Joseph Day, who is incredibly underrated.
Bring in John Franklin Myers.
And then, if you have Tavondre sweat and,
proved as a pass rusher, having that on the edge with those four guys on the interior
to rotate in and out, we are going to eat quarterbacks a lot.
And I think if the Titans truly want to get to the playoffs,
the number one thing that can get them there is a dominant defensive line.
Because not only do they have the best interior defensive linemen in the NFL to build off of
and a ton of resources to add to the defensive line
and some good D-line depth already
with Sebastian Joseph Day and Tavandre Sweat.
But they have a head coach now
who has historically created dominant defensive lines.
So you have a chess master
who knows how to use the pieces
and you have the resources to get the pieces
that can become dominant.
Imagine Trey Hendrickson, Ruben Bain,
John Franklin Myers, Jeffrey Simmons,
and then behind them, Sam Williams,
Yaturgros Matos, Sebastian Joseph Day, and Tavandre Sweat.
What a freaky top eight.
So if that happens,
with Femiola Dejo taking steps forward as a pass rusher,
as the Sam linebacker,
folks, that's how you get to the playoffs.
Now, at linebacker,
Cedricer Gray is pretty freaking good.
I want to see Cedricer Gray get better in coverage.
But again, Robert Salah, former linebacker coach,
has gotten the absolute best out of his front seven.
I think Cedric Gray could turn in one of the best linebackers in the entire NFL
if he's not already there.
He's probably top 20, top 25 right now.
He could go up to top 10, top 5.
There aren't a lot of great linebackers in the NFL, if we're being honest.
Cedric Gray, if he gets better in coverage,
he's a top 10 linebacker period.
Period.
And Robert Sala can get him there.
I want to see James Williams take a step forward to.
He's got all the gifts, all the size.
If Robert Sala gets the best out of him,
he could be the starting Mike linebacker for the Titans.
And then when they go into their nickel and sub-packages,
Cedric Gray and Kevin Winston,
or Cedric Gray and Amani Hooker can beat your linebackers in your past sets.
That would work.
But then in the secondary, speaking of those guys,
Amani Hooker has to play better.
Last year was his worst year as a pro, even worse than his rookie year.
Ammoni Hooker has to play better.
Kevin Winston has to get better at recognizing coverage
and at guarding wide receivers.
He's got to get better at it.
Okay?
But we knew that those were, you know,
things that needed to improve for Kevin Winston coming out of college.
And with a slow start with the injury early on
because Brian Callahan overworked him,
that probably set him back even a little bit more.
Okay, and then he gets hurt at the end of the year.
And then Marcus Harris as a slot corner.
I am excited about Marcus Harris.
I think he can start in the slot for the Titans.
But they probably need to get a veteran in there
to at least give him some competition.
And honestly, with his stickiness in man coverage,
his speed, he just needs to add a little weight,
add a little muscle, and get a little more physical.
And I think he's going to be in a great spot.
But with all the additions on the defense,
if they add, Trey Hendrickson, Sam Williams,
John Franklin Myers, Rubin Bain,
Harold Perkins at linebacker behind Cedric Gray,
bring in a guy like Jason Pinnock at safety,
Genesis Smith in the draft to play free safety.
Add a guy like Brandon C-Sysay in the draft
or one of the long cornerbacks.
Get a guy like Alante Taylor, a Kello Witherspoon.
Now we're talking about internal development
with off-season acquisitions
and all of that together
sends the Tennessee Titans to the playoffs.
That's what I'm looking for
if this team really wants to make a push
to the playoffs like we started talking about
at the beginning of the week.
Again, if you missed any of the episodes,
I went over the entire acquisition process
all my roster cuts on the first show of the week on Sunday night
then we went into cuts, extensions, trades.
Then we went into a mock free agency.
Then yesterday we did a full seven round mock draft.
If you missed any step of the process that got us here, go back and check that out.
But with that being said, that's going to do it for me today, folks.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland, and this was Locked on Titans.
