The Tennessee Titans have organized team activities this week,
and I think there are three obvious names that need to have a strong start.
I'm going to tell you who they are on today's edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast,
part of the Locked on Podcast Network, your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast.
I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans.
Today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast is brought to you by Fandall.
Right now, new customers can bet just $5 and get $150 in bonus bets
if your first bet wins had to Fandle.com to get started on today's show.
I'm going to get you ready for Tennessee Titans OTAs this week.
The Titans enter the next phase of their offseason,
and it includes full team practices.
I'm going to talk about the big questions that the Tennessee Titans have moving
forward, who needs to step up, what are the big roster battles?
But we're going to start with the three names that I think need a strong start
to organize team activities and number one on that list is Cam Ward.
Is it obvious?
Yes, it's obvious, but it needs to be emphasized how important it is
that Cam Ward gets off to a strong start for the Tennessee Titans.
Obviously, quarterback, face of the franchise, leader of the organization,
first one in, last one out, putting in the work, being in the weight room,
taking the coaching, all of those things that are required of Cam Ward with the position that he's in
are things that matter here, especially with a new program, new coaching staff.
All of those things are even more emphasized here than they would be in a normal year.
But I think it's even deeper on the field.
New offensive system from Brian Dable.
understanding, hey, you need to run your route at this depth.
The protection gets slide this way if we see this look.
Oh, I need you running this hard.
You need to run this route this way.
When I call this, this means we do this.
And especially in Brian Dable's system,
where we talked about the EP system, the Earhart Perkins,
where route concepts, no matter who's running them,
no matter whether it's tight end running back,
or wide receiver, wide receiver, wide receiver tied end,
or any combination of skill players that you can put together,
each of these route concepts has a nickname.
Well, to me, that makes it harder on the front end and easier on the back end.
So other offensive systems, you know, you've run a nine route, run a seven route.
There are, you know, the West Coast system has a name for every single route
and every single position and all that.
And it's different for all of them.
But in this system, again, it's code words for route concepts.
Cam Ward doesn't just need to be the first person in, hitting the weights,
taking care of his body, listening to the coaches,
being approachable in the locker room, all that.
On the field, Cam Ward needs to be like, hey, we're running circus,
we're running coffee, we're running bang, we're running.
And he needs to know all of that stuff and have every T crossed and every eye dotted.
Because if he's out on the field and he knows his playbook,
He knows his audibles.
He knows his adjustments.
He understands what they're going to be doing based on the defense that they're seeing.
The front, the coverage, the shade, inside, outside from a cornerback.
Cam Ward needs to have every single possible detail ironed out on the football field.
It's bigger than just the leadership responsibilities of being a franchise quarterback.
Because if he is doing that and he has all that stuff figured out,
then he can demand it of his teammates.
So the obvious stuff you think of with the responsibilities of a vet or,
of a franchise quarterback apply here.
No doubt about it.
They're ratcheted up even because of the tight and unique circumstances.
But deeper than that, the actual on-field leadership
is what I want to see Cam Ward nail home.
And he needs to have a strong start.
And again, the next person that I want to talk about here
that needs to have a strong star out of the three
is in line with this as well.
And it's Jeffrey Simmons.
Cam Ward is the leader on the offense.
Jeff Simmons is the leader.
on the defense. Cam Ward is the swagger and the leadership.
Jeffrey Simmons is the intensity and the physicality, and they blend together perfectly.
I look at them as like a Leonardo and Raphael of the Ninja Turtle.
If you're a Ninja Turtle fan, you understand the dynamic there.
I think that Jeffrey Simmons needs to set the tone also on the field from an intensity
standpoint. And both of those guys, we'll get to my third one here in a second,
that obviously matters.
But both Jeffrey Simmons and Cam Ward
with a new coaching staff
and a lot of new players,
I think they, I wouldn't call it
reinventing maybe is too strong of a word,
but they get to reintroduce,
allow me to reintroduce myself,
Jeffrey Simmons.
Like you get to reintroduce your leadership style,
reintroduce how you're going to talk to guys,
how you're going to operate, how you want to lead them.
So it's kind of a refresher when you have a new coaching staff.
So it's like the guys who are already in the locker room,
you don't want to act different.
Be who you are and be the leader that you are.
But there's a lot of new guys.
There's a lot of new coaches.
And you kind of, again, do get to reintroduce yourself to the team in a way
from a leadership standpoint.
And it's very critical that Jeffrey Simmons and Cam Ward,
again, Cam Ward being on top of things.
Hey, our quarterback knows everything there is to know.
I better know everything there is to know about my job.
Oh, Jeffrey Simmons, he's going to come out and punch you in the mouth.
If you are not ready to play, he is going to absolutely bully you.
We're going to be the bullies.
We're going to follow Jeffrey Simmons lead,
and we're going to have the physical intensity at a different level
than teams that we play every single week in that
violent and fast mentality that Robert Salas preaching and pushing in the building.
Like, Jeffrey Simmons needs to be the guy to establish that physical tone of,
yeah, we're bullies.
We're a team that is going to beat the living crap out of you.
And I am the biggest, baddest dude on the planet.
Like, so setting that tone from day one, the coaches can do that all they want.
But Cam Ward and Jeffrey Simmons have to establish a culture of physicality and accountability.
That's on your best players at the end of the day.
So big, big, big moments going on right now behind closed doors for Jeffrey Simmons and Cam Ward.
And Robert Sala.
No, it's not a player.
I cheated.
All right.
Deal with it.
Okay?
But Robert Sala, this is a critical moment for him.
First impressions are key.
Are you going to set the tone that,
hey, I'm about what I preach.
And if you follow me into the battlefield,
we will end victoriously.
Do the players believe?
And that's more important for the battlefield.
the Titans right now, then it would be normally going into a season for a football team.
The amount of belief, the morale, the chemistry, the player morale, you could call it.
Is that an all-time love right now?
All right?
An all-time love.
This is not just about building a good football team and running good...
This team needs a jolt of energy in the chest to wake it back up.
Robert
Solid needs to be that jolt of energy.
So he has to come out strong
with a good plan
that instills confidence
instills belief in the coaching staff.
He needs to hold guys accountable
early on so we can set the standard early
hey, this is how we operate.
This is what is expected of you.
Now you won't be late to the meeting.
You won't be late to your rehab session.
You won't be late to the wait room.
You're going to go hard and on
stop and if you don't, you're out of here.
All of the first impressions.
So I used to be a manager and customer service back before the podcast days.
Fresh out of college, trying to make a way, young tie.
And the expectation setting, when you got a new person on your team,
the very first meeting that you had with them sets the tone for what your interactions are going to be like,
what you're going to expect from them, how you're going to solve problems.
with how new everything is for Robert Sala right now,
it is an absolute critical, critical time
in the growth of his program.
And Jeffrey Simmons, Cam Ward
have to be the tone setters,
but Robert Sala is the captain at the end of the day.
So those three guys, it may be obvious,
the star players on either side of the ball
and then the new head coach,
it may be obvious that those three need a strong start,
but with how important it is,
it needs to be emphasized
because it cannot be overstated.
With that being said, there are a lot more questions.
And there are some young guys that we got to keep our eye on here
because at the end of the day,
the development of the Titans young players
is ultimately going to be what's most critical
to the team improving in 2026.

And let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
Again, we talked about the Tennessee Titans
and three people who need to have a strong start
in Cam Ward, Jeffrey Simmons, Robert Sala.
Now we need to talk about guys who we have to keep our eye on
and we're going to talk about some position battles
at the end of the show as again, the Tennessee Titans
move into OTAs this week.
Before we dive in though, do want to thank you for making
Locked on Titans your first listen

Again, the Tennessee Titans have OTAs for the next few weeks,
mandatory minicamp in less than a month.
So much going on before we get to that mid-summer break,
make sure that you stay locked in with the number one Tennessee Titans
podcast in the world, locked on Titans.
With that being said, though, again, so many young players
that we need to keep our eye on here.
Again, the Titans are a young team now.
The Titans are in the top three in the NFL and youngest rosters.
I saw like an average the other day where they're at about just over 25 years old as an average.
The Titans are one of the youngest teams in the NFL now,
and that means that they will be relying on young players to take steps forward.
And obviously it starts with the rookies.
They need their rookie class to come in right away.
Carnell Tate needs to be a true number one wide receiver.
Again, I have my doubts about whether that's possible
or whether Carnell Tate can be that guy for the Titans.
But even if he's not a Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson, AJ Brown,
even if he's not that, he needs to be a Cortland Sutton,
a Nico Collins, a Drake London, that level of player, right?
To be worth a top five pick?
Cortland Sutton, top five pick, we're not asking a lot, right?
I think Cortland Sutton's a very good player, but it needs to be from day one.
You know, like when you get picked that high and how desperately the Titans need him in the offense
and I have talked about how he can be the isolation winner that Brian Dable likes to have in his offense
because he uses his alignments against defenses to create one-on-one matchups for his best isolation player.
So the offense is literally designed to get those isolated matchups.
Carnell Tate was literally the best in the country.
at winning those isolated mashups at Ohio State.
So it stands to reason that he will keep winning those,
which will allow him to be that number one target for the Titans.
But again, we're going to know right away, like, is he that guy?
Is he dogging the cornerbacks?
And he can't afford to start slowly.
Like, so my eyes are going to be on Cornell Tate, obviously, right away.
Keldrick Falk, how quick can he integrate himself into a defense
that's going to ask him to do totally different things
than what he was asked to do in college.
The Titans put out a little video recently
of just like, you know, some highlights from a, like,
team activities of just drills and people throwing on air
and stuff like that.
And man, Caldric Falk looked fast.
And I told you guys that when we did the film breakdown
on the Tick Tac Titans film channel,
which you need to go check all those out.
If you missed, I did a Cardellate,
I did an Anthony Hill,
I did a Caldric Falk.
Caldric Falk was faster.
around the edge than I expected.
I mean, for a guy who's 6 foot 6,
275 pounds with
34 and a half inch arms
to have the speed around the edge
and then in that video that the Titans
put out, the social media video that I talked
about about OTAs, watch a
Keldrick Falk move around the bags, buddy.
Woo!
Like, got being
fired up. About as fired up as that
Drake album or Drake albums this weekend.
Frozen the world, baby. Let's go.
Iceman. But
Keldrick Falk looks good.
So I'm wondering how quickly he can learn the new system,
learn how to play differently, learn the new ask on him.
There's a lot of things that are new for Kaltrick Falk.
So I'm very curious how quickly he can catch on.
My expectation, where I'm saying,
Cornell Tate needs to be the man right away,
number one wide receiver.
I feel the opposite about Keldrick Falk.
I'm not rushing him at all, but I'm still curious.
Keep my eye on him.
Anthony Hill, we're going to talk about him more in just a second,
battling it out.
What about on the offensive line?
The rookies, Carmona, Coogan,
I gotta tell you,
and we'll talk more about it.
That's another position battle
that we'll discuss at the end of the show,
but I don't know that either of them
are going to end up finding a way to start day one.
Nick Singleton,
foot injury, is he going to be 100% right away?
It sounds like he might be.
How quickly can he make an impact?
I think he can take real snaps from day one.
Like, Singleton's been productive.
He's been in college a while.
ready to have the ball in his hands and make plays.
I think Singleton could be a star in these summer workout periods leading into training camp.
But the second-year players, you know, are they going to,
are they going to stay where they were role-wise?
Or are they going to step forward?
Like, Jim D.K.
Is D.K. going to take snaps away from Calvin Ridley?
Is he going to be that kind of wide receiver this year?
Are they going to have to give him more reps with Wondale Robinson on the, you know,
like take Wondell off. We've got to put in Jim DK.
I think that's going to more happen again with Calvin Ridley than Wondale
because they brought Wondell in for a reason.
But who's D.K. going to be?
Is he just the utility player that I've been talking about him as,
who's really good as a returner and he isn't really a starting level wide receiver?
Is that who Jim D.K. is?
Or is he a bona fide starting wide receiver?
who it's Tate and D.K.
And we have a real number two.
Is that who he's going to be this year?
So, think, what about Ayo?
Elyle-Iomanner looks more bulky, more built, in better shape.
That's great.
Be stronger through contact.
Lean into the kind of player that you need to be at the next level.
But, I mean, they got Cornell Tate because they don't look at I.O. Manor right now
as that number one wide receiver that he has the potential to be if things really broke.
Right. You know what I mean?
Like if Elico Manor hit his full potential and turn into a star player,
him and Cornell Tate could work together, but Carnell Tate could play Z.
Don't get me wrong.
Like if I.O. breaks out, him and Tate as Twin Towers together would be awesome.
But he's certainly going to get less opportunities than he got last year
because of Carnel Tate and Wondale Robinson and hopefully a healthy Calvin Ridley.
and Chim D.K.
trying to take a step forward.
So he better be ready to go.
If Cornel Tate is out there whooping him,
not like they're going to go against each other directly,
but if Cornell Tate is clearly the better player right away
and is going to be, you know,
is I.O. ever going to be anything?
There are real analytical reasons for concern
with the drops and the route running and the separation.
So if I.O. wants to be a starting wide receiver in the NFL,
he better come with him.
Okay. Gunner Helm, is he going to step up and be the guy that I think that he can be a top 10 tied end in the NFL?
I think this is the year for Gunner Helm to take a big step forward.
He's going to get way more opportunities.
Jackson Slater, I think he's a starter at right guard.
But again, the Titans try to trade up for Keelon Rutledge.
So I don't think they're big believers in Jackson Slater.
They're super comfortable with Slater starting at guard.
But I think right now it's Schlotman and Slater.
and I'm adding to CH in there with Slater
because I'm doing it again.
Slotman, Schlaughtman, and Slater.
There we go.
Say that five times fast.
But I think that's your starting interior right now personally.
Now, we'll talk about that more in a second,
but just keep an eye.
That second year players on offense.
And then on defense,
we'll talk about Femmy in a second in position battles
because I think he's going to have to prove it
that he deserves reps.
What about Marcus Harris?
Kevin Winston.
Are those guys going to take a step forward?
Are they going to solidify themselves
as future pieces of the secondary?
Like, hey, we can build this secondary
knowing that we have you guys in those spots.
It was up and down for Winston last year,
which is to be expected.
But he should take a big leap forward
with better defensive coaching.
And Marcus Harris, I mean, the coaches have been hyping him up.
I mean, we can't
can't blame the fans anymore
for being hype about Marcus Harris
with the way that the coaching staff has hyped him up.
At this point, with the lack of competition
they brought in at cornerback
or at slot cornerback
and the way that they've been hyping up Marcus Harris,
there's no other way to take it
other than they think he's the guy.
So we will see.
But with that in mind,
let's talk about some of the position battles
that we need to watch Shakeout.
Do you want to let you know

fans, let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
Again, getting you guys ready to go for OTAs,
the Tennessee Titans back out on the practice field for open sessions.
This week we talked about the three names that need to start fast.
We talked about all the young players to keep an eye on.
But now I want to talk about some position battles that we need to pay attention to.
Before I do, though, thanks again for making Locked on Titans,

But position battles.
We've got to keep our eye on.
Number one, the interior offensive line.
isn't that going to be the biggest position battle that we watch?
And I need someone to ask Robert Sala.
Someone out there, please.
I'm giving you a free, great question because I'm generous.
Ask Robert Sala or Brian Dable
or one of the position coaches,
if you talk to Carmen Priscilla or whatever.
When do you think the offensive line needs to be set
for them to gain the needed chemistry
to be ready for the regular season.
Is it going into training camp?
Is it the end of training camp?
Does it not matter?
And you can just pick it whenever
and have the whole battle go throughout training camp
preseason?
Is it the final preseason game,
which is usually a dress rehearsal?
Is it the beginning of training camp?
Is it two weeks into training camp?
I want to know what his answer would be
because that's an answer that I think we deserve.
And it's, I'm interested to hear
the answer to that is.
Because
I feel like
it's Schlotman and Slater.
I'm doing it again.
Schlotman and Slater
who are currently the starters.
But I don't think it would be
out of the realm of possibility
for a Carmona,
for a Coogan,
for a Volson.
Oh man, if it's
Schlotman and Volson
starting day one, just
oh boy.
Oh, God.
I can't even get into it.
But, like, it could change.
It absolutely could change.
It's early.
I think it's Schlotman and Slater.
Right now, they're the favorites, is what I would say to you,
is they would be the favorites to get that job.
But Carmona has worked at Summit Center in his training,
and he's a bigger-bodied guy.
Cougan, obviously, very experienced, tough, gritty.
They like him a lot.
It wouldn't be crazy for one of those guys to steal one of those spots.
But again, going into these,
OTAs and stuff. It's my
understanding, belief,
opinion, a lot of different words that
I would use, that it is Schlotman
and Slater right now.
So what happens
from there, I don't know, but that's our baseline
that we need to watch. Going forward.
Anthony Hill and Cody Barton. Cody Barton
is not a fit for what this team
wants at linebacker. I don't think
it's going to take long for Anthony Hill to take that
spot for him. I don't.
Barton is just not a downhill
violence linebacker.
that's not who he is.
That's what they want.
Barton's not going to be blitzing gaps,
blitzing downhill.
It's just not going to happen.
Maybe they rotate him in on some passing downs
because he can still have good awareness of routes
and get in the way and read quarterback's eyes
and stuff like.
He's not a loss,
but I just don't think he's a fit for what they're going to do.
So watch Anthony Hill potentially taking over for Cody Barton.
Femmy and Folk.
I know that Caldric Fulk is going to be rushing from the interior on passing downs,
but on early downs,
we know Jermaine Johnson's going to be one of those starters.
And I know, I know, I know there's going to be a rotation.
They're going to rotate a lot.
So it may not ultimately matter.
But who's going to get the bulk of those early down edge reps?
Is it going to be Caldric Falk or is it going to be Femi Oladaiso?
Because Femi is a direct backup, in my opinion, for Jermaine Johnson, can be.
and then Caldric Folk is a different kind of player
than Jermaine Johnson and Femiole-A-Dazio on the other side.
He's like a traditional big-body defensive end
where Jermaine Johnson and Femiole-A-Dajio
are more like, you know, tweener types
where they could be an outside linebacker and a 3-4
or put their hand in the dirt because they're big and long and physical.
You know what I mean?
But if you have one kind of a hybrid front
where one is more of that outside linebacker D-N hybrid,
and then you have the traditional D-N on the other side,
I think that's what Robert Sala would prefer.
So we will see.
I like some heavy packages where Jermaine Johnson is on one side.
And then you have Caldric Falk as a inside the tackle
or head up on the tackle.
And then you still have Femioledazio as an edge on the tight end.
Like in a heavy package on defense,
I think that could really work out.
Singleton versus Tage Spears.
Singleton is a bigger back.
Brian Dable likes bigger back.
back. Singleton is good out of the backfield, catching the ball and can run the route
tree. Singleton is jittery and explosive and can take it in the distance. He kind of gives
you a lot of what Taj Spears gives you. So I would not be shocked if Nick Singleton
cut into the Taj Spears work and the Tony Pollard work, but cut in more to the Taj
Spears work than maybe people are realizing. And it's more of a Pollard and Singleton
as the top two backs for the Titans. But Spears really,
as that change of pace, third back.
Levis versus Trubesky, anybody?
No, no, no, no.
Can't do it, but I'm just saying.
Something to watch.
The Titans, it would be better
for Willis to win the backup spot
and make it seem like he'd be better
in a trade, right?
Right?
But Trubisky ain't going anywhere.
He knows the system.
He's a pseudo-coach, which is what your backup
quarterback should be.
And then the slot quarterback position.
I talked about it earlier when I mentioned
Marcus Harris.
They didn't bring anybody in right now.
And who else would even play in the slot?
Micah Robinson?
Some of these undrafted free agent guys?
I just have a hard time believing that
that the Titans are going to not give any more difficult
competition to Marcus Harris for that nickelback slot.
Or maybe, maybe it's like I've been saying,
they actually want to use Kevin Winston
as a big nickel and a slot guy early on.
So they know that they have Winston
and then they have Harris as the late-down slot
and they feel good about that.
And we just hasn't been a lot of talk
about Kevin Winston
and what he could be.
So very curious
when we get more conversation about him going forward as well.
But with that being said, again,
feel like we're ready to go
into a week of organized team activities
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday,
Titans have practices. I believe they're all open to the media.
So we're going to get some reporting.
We're going to get some press conferences and stuff like that.
And I'm going to be here to break it all down.
That's going to do it for me today, folks.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland.
And this was Locked on Titans.
