Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Cam Ward SCARY STAT Causes Concern as STRUGGLES CONTINUE at Tennessee Titans Training Camp
Episode Date: August 25, 2026Tennessee Titans starting quarterback Cam Ward is under fire as of late due to poor performances in preseason games. Some think this is overblown while some are rushing to proclaim Ward a bust. The an...swer remains unknown, but one recent stat that came to light makes you feel really nervous about Ward's accuracy. Add in Ward's poor day in practice on Tuesday and vibes are not high. However, the Titans did drop their new rivalry jerseys and they look fantastic. Going with the Navy blue base and using the Titans blue as highlights to create a neon feel was a stroke of genius. The guitar strings on having the "amped" look was so creative. They may not be good this year, but they will look good. Finally, Tyler rants about where the preseason process is right now and why putting stock in practice is no longer an option as the team is too familiar with itself at this point. The upcoming scrimmage and game against the Chicago Bears are the only things that matter now. I still believe in Cam Moore, but there's one stat in particular that has me absolutely terrified.
I'll tell you what it is on today's edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day.

On today's show, we are going to talk about why I simply do not put stock in Titans versus Titans practices anymore.
We're going to talk about the New Jersey drop for the Titans because the new uniforms look absolutely incredible.
And the Texans can try to copy as bad as they want.
they will always be the Timo Titans.
But we have to start with a conversation about Cam Ward,
who had mixed results in Tuesday's practice.
There were multiple interceptions, but also some touchdown throws.
We'll talk about that in a second.
But I want to talk more about the overall conversation about Cam Ward right now.
I still believe in Cam Ward.
That's all it comes down to.
I still think that Cam Ward can be the franchise quarterback
I think he can be the face of the Tennessee Titans.
He can be the quarterback that is good enough to win a Super Bowl around.
That has not changed.
My confidence in that happening has wavered just a little bit.
And again, we could talk about everything we see and everything we saw,
but there's one particular stat that has me, I guess, as worried
as any stat that I've come across or anything that I've seen.
and it comes from Warren Sharp at Sharp football on Twitter.
And he says,
Cam Ward has 25 dropbacks this preseason.
He has completed zero passes longer than seven air yards.
And air yards is throwing the ball in the airs.
So if you throw a one-yard pass and it goes for a seven-yard gain,
that's not seven air yards.
Literally in the air, not a dump off to Calvin Ridley for five yards that he runs
or a three-yard dump off to Tony Pollard where he runs at 30 more yards,
literally throwing the ball more than seven yards in the air, he's 0 for 6.
And of course, you could say it's pre-season, it's pre-season, it's pre-season, who cares.
But last year, as a rookie, Cam Ward had a 43% completion percentage
on throws that traveled in the air seven yards or more.
He was dead last among qualified quarterbacks,
36 out of 36.
This hits on multiple things that are at the heart of my concern
with Cam Ward this preseason.
A lot of the things that we've seen from Cam Ward this preseason
that are worrisome are things that have been worrisome before.
So it's not like an anomaly.
It's not a blip on the radar.
It's not, oh, that's just an anomaly.
We don't got to worry about that.
It's just a random thing.
It's preseason.
It's fun.
No, he struggles with accuracy,
especially the more he has to throw down the field.
And he struggles with ball security,
which he's already had troubles with already.
So almost interceptions,
ball getting knocked out of his hand.
So it's like,
this is the core of my issue
with how Titans fans have treated the preseason
is some of these problems,
Robert Salab run defense,
Cam Ward accuracy, ball control.
These are not new issues.
So I still believe in Cam Ward.
I think that his playmaking ability,
the special things that he can do,
make him somebody that I would still want to buy into.
And if he can clean up some of these smaller things,
some of these easier things,
ball security, easy accuracy, short throws.
If he can clean up some of the stuff that he struggles with,
and then continue to do the stuff that he expects,
sells that, that is a very good
quarterback that can go out and win
football games for you.
But I have to admit my confidence
in Cam Ward being able to become
that player is a little
bit rattled by what we've
seen in year one and so far
in the preseason. Now, the easy
thing to say, and it's what Brian Dables
said, the Titans' offensive
coordinator before practice on
Tuesday, deep
passing isn't all on cam.
The wide receivers need to catch
the ball. They need to be at the right
angles. They need to get open.
The offensive line has to give them
time to get the ball down the field.
All of those factors are absolutely
true. All of those factors matter.
Brian Dable is right.
And you could argue
that in Cam Ward's rookie year,
his lack of success,
throwing the ball down the field
was more a product
of those contextual, circumstantial
factors that impacted Cam Ward, not necessarily his inability to make those throws.
You could make that argument.
But here is what I am going to tell you.
We're going to see, right?
Because the weapons are better.
The O-line looks improved.
We all agree that Brian Daible was a way better coach than Brian Callahan.
So we should see an improved version of Cam Ward with all of those factors playing in.
But again, through the preseason, the first two weeks,
we have not seen an improvement in any way in that regard.
I wouldn't say that it's gotten worse, but it certainly hasn't gotten better.
The ball security hasn't really gotten much better through two games.
When you look at average and the amount of snaps that he plays
and if you extrapolated that out to a full game.
So it's like the things we needed to see improve from Cam Ward so far,
we have not seen.
So those are the things that we look at,
going forward. Those are the things that we pay attention to. Those are the things that we put
a little market. And we just, we got to see. Because those things have to get better if Cam Ward is
going to be the franchise quarterback. I still believe that he can do it. But I admit my confidence in that
has waned a little bit from what we've seen. I know that some of you hear that. You go, oh,
you're, you're calling him a bud. No, I'm not. I'm just saying my confidence in him being the franchise
quarterback has been impacted by this preseason so far.
If that makes me a panicker or whatever you want to call it, then let that be the case.
But I don't think that's insane.
I really don't think it makes me a panicker or a bad fan or anything else that you want to
throw on me.
It doesn't make me any of that.
I mean, if you don't have your confidence shaken whatsoever by what we've seen from
Kim Ward so far, and you have just the same belief in him as you
before the preseason ever, then good for you.
But you can't be mad at people who do look at it and say,
I don't quite know.
That's a little alarming.
That's why when the conversation was,
oh, the national media is freaking out and they shouldn't.
But if you were somebody in the national media
and you watch Cam Ward's tape in the preseason,
I can't blame you for being a little freaked out.
So I'm just saying that stat right there,
passing the ball, and we're not talking about downfield.
We're talking about seven yards in the air.
That's not that long.
You know what I mean?
It's not like Cam Ward's bad at bombs 30 yards down the field.
We're talking about seven yards.
So I've already seen people push back to the idea and say,
oh, well, the downfield passing is hard.
Don't call an eight-yard pass downfield.
It's not.
It's not.
It's not a downfield pass.
But anyways, with that being said,
it was a mixed bag for Cam Ward in practice on Tuesday.
And I'll explain more.
at the end of the episode.
Why I'm not maybe putting more emphasis
into Cam's practice performance.
He threw two interceptions,
one to Alante Taylor, one to Kevin Winston.
Through a couple touchdowns in Red Zone 2, though.
They had some move-the-ball periods,
which are like scrimmages.
They did a lot of Red Zone work and everything like that.
That makes sense, but not a great day for Cam Ward,
not a great day for the offense.
Mitch Trubisky threw a.
an interception, Will Levis through an interception, so it was four interceptions total.
It's great that the secondary is making plays and again, gaining their confidence,
which is what we talked about last week, heading into the joint practice in the preseason
game is I wanted to see the Titan's secondary gain confidence, but, you know, just an up
and down day for everybody.
And it was a lighter practice.
The Titans played a lot of snaps in the joint practice in the preseason game against Seattle.
And then they have another joint practice on Thursday with the Bears in a preseason game.
On Saturday, their starters are getting a lot of reps right now.
So it makes sense they went with a little bit of a lighter practice on Tuesday.
But again, just not much to talk about from it.
And my general care about Titans versus Titans practices is basically at an all-time low.
Again, I'll talk about that at the end of the episode.
But we got to talk about the New Jersey's man,
because they look absolutely phenomenal.
Do you want to let you know that today's episode is brought to you by Koushi.

We talked about the scary Cam Ward stat that has me a little bit worried.
We talked about his mixed bag of performance in the Titans practice.
on Tuesday. I'm going to tell you why I don't really care about Titans
versus Titans practices anymore at the end of the show with a little
Roland's rant for you. But we got to talk about these new uniforms, man,
because they are just absolutely gorgeous.
Number one, the full layout from the Titans, you get the Navy Blue uniform
with the Light Titans Blue numbers, the white going through the numbers,
and I'm so happy that they picked a different font for the numbers.
a little bit of personality, give it a little bit of uniqueness as well.
You get the strip, the entire strip on the top of the helmet.
The helmet is the Titans Blue.
The logo is the white and the Navy Blue only, just those two colors.
And then the guitar strip is the Navy Blue in the middle with the light blue stripes through it.
The stripes on the outside, I mean, it just looks incredible.
The Music City on the chest in whatever format, they have that in. It just looks so awesome.
Like these are a great fit with the Titans, other uniforms, and it adds back in that Navy element
that a lot of Titans fans like the new uniforms, but a lot of Titans fans were like, man,
I wish they would have kept Navy more involved in the uniform.
Now, putting it into the guitar stripe, I think was an absolute stroke of genius,
a great way to keep it around, but it certainly is a very small element.
So now that you have a full Navy kit for the Titans,
I think this is an absolute home run.
Quite honestly, I think it was the best Nike rivalry uniform
and we'll compare some of them later,
but I got to point out my favorite detail
of these new uniforms for the Titans,
and it's the guitar strings.
Such a cool and creative design element.
the guitar strings on the Titans alternate uniforms
are rigid.
They're like
you know like how it looks when you're on a heartbeat monitor.
I don't know the proper name
but what the Titan said is they're rhythmic stripes.
They're amped.
They're vibrating.
It looks like they're moving.
They got squigglys all around.
What a cool addition.
When you have them straight on the normal uniforms
and then it's like the Music City Knights
uniforms
they're actually playing the guitar, it's amped up,
it's vibrating, it's at full volume
is what they say, what an incredible detail
like whoever thought of that,
whoever sat down and said,
hey, maybe we should squiggle the guitar line,
the guitar strings for the amped up version,
that is just absolutely brilliant.
Absolutely brilliant.
The light blue, Titans Blue tag on the back of
the jersey looks so good.
These are magnificent.
Now, I will say this.
If I had one critique
of the new uniforms,
just one critique,
I think instead of the new logo,
they should have done the football logo,
the white football that has the T and the N in it,
I think that secondary logo looks so awesome
and would have been just a nice change up
to differentiate these,
even more. That's literally the only thing that I would say,
they're a nine out of ten to me. And when you combine them with, again,
the Titans' regular jerseys, I think it might be the best closet in the entire NFL.
But I think the Titans' new regular uniforms are the best uniforms in the NFL.
You add these in, absolute home run, two for two, the way the jerseys look out on
the field, the branding around the stadium, the new merch.
it was a 10 out of a 10 decision for the Titans to rebrand.
I know not everybody loved it,
but I don't know how you can look at the way things look right now
and not say that it wasn't a great idea
for the Titans gives them way more identity.
And as a matter of fact, it's so awesome.
The Houston Texans cannot help
but just copy the Titans at every single turn.
As we get a look at the other alternate uniforms
around the NFL,
the Texans alternate uniforms
are basically just the Titans away uniforms.
The Titans all white Storm Trooper uniforms,
they're basically just the same thing.
Thick stripe down the middle, light blue, white, pops of red.
They cannot help.
But continue to try to copy everything the Titans do.
From the colors that they chose initially that the Titans already were,
the red, the dark, the navy blue,
now they're adding pops of light blue in it,
Like that is literally just the Titans color scheme to his color scheme to a T.
And I forget who it was.
Former Titans Oilers player.
I want to say it's Warren Moon, but it might have been somebody else.
Can't remember exactly.
I saw the video.
He did an interview with Kay Adams.
I think it might have been Warren Moon when he was talking about these jerseys and everything.
But he literally said the Houston Texans organization needs to move on.
They're not the Oilers.
They're not the Titans.
Like they need to move on and create their own identity.
But Houston just refuses to do it.
They just won't do it.
They're just so petty.
They can't get over it.
Those are not your colors anymore.
You didn't want that team to stick around.
So it's just funny that the Texans alternates
or rivalry alternates
are just a crappier version of the Titans Away uniforms.
That's all they are.
And the big number on the front looks stupid
with how big they made the number.
It's just dumb.
So the Titans clearly have the best alternate rivalry
uniforms of anybody who dropped on Tuesday.
I would say the Vikings are number two.
The Vikings have the, you know, the Vikings are Norse-coded,
as the kids would say, Norse mythology and everything like that
from the heritage of the area.
And they have some Norse markings on their shoulder pad
and like a spear through the middle of their helmet.
I think it looks awesome.
And when you're storytelling in that way to,
connect to the community that you're in and the culture of the people who settled in your area,
that's sick. I think the Vikings jerseys are the only, only jerseys that were anywhere close
to the Tennessee Titans. I think it's the Titans at the top, the Vikings.
And then I would say the Colts jerseys are fine. They're dark gray with some black and
blue them. They look like Duke, but they share similar colors. The Colts alternate uniforms are fine.
I hate the Colts. I really do. But they look fine.
Okay, I would say that the bears, I love the orange helmet.
I don't love the jersey, but I love the orange helmet.
The bears are fine.
The lions, I think the lions look like a madden create a team.
I think the shoulder pads look stupid.
They're all right.
They're not an absolute disgrace or anything like that.
Now, the Packers, the Packers would be near the bottom for me.
I think the Packers jerseys are all right.
They look like North Dakota State.
They don't really have any originality.
to me, but I get Green Bay tries to go for a classic look.
I would just have them towards the bottom.
But the worst two are the Texans and the Jags.
And even though the Texans are little copycats
who wish they were the Titans,
the Jags, the Jags are by far the worst.
The Jags are wearing Jaguar Print Yoga pants.
The Jags jerseys are by far the worst.
It's not even close.
Everybody else is like, meh, too awesome.
the Jags are a disgrace.
There's is terrible, man.
So I feel bad for...
Actually, I don't feel bad for their fans.
Screw Jacksonville.
And the Jaguars fans.
Do not feel bad for your jersey suck.
All right, so...
I don't know how good the Titans are going to be as a team, folks.
I can't tell you that.
But what I can tell you is
they're going to be the best-looking team in the NFL this year,
and at least we got that.
But with that being said,
I want to finish today's episode
with a little bit of a Roland's rant for you guys.
I just do not care about Titans versus Titans practice anymore.

Let's continue and cap off today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast.
We talked about the scary Cam Ward stat, even though I still believe in Cam,
that stat really has me concerned.
We talked about the secondary making some plays in practice and mixed results for Cam in that practice.
We talked about the Titans new uniform drop, which looks absolutely fantastic.
But want to finish with a Rollins rant here for you guys.
Before I dive in, though, thanks again for making Locked on Titans.

you want to stay as up to date, as informed, as entertained as a Tennessee Titans
fan could possibly be, stay locked in to the number one Tennessee Titans
podcast in the world, locked on Titans.
But I do not care about practice anymore.
joint practices. I'm excited for the joint practice against the bears. Don't get me wrong.
But Titans versus Titans practices mean nothing to me anymore.
And the reality is, training camp is over. Training camp is over for the Titans.
You have the joint practice. You have the preseason game.
Roster cut down day is on Sunday. The NFL moved it up a week going forward.
So roster cut down day is on Sunday
and then all of the next practices that the Titans have
we won't get practice reports
they won't be treated like training camp
because training camp is over
the Titans have set their roster
that's the truth
so with that in mind
I just don't care about Titans
versus Titans practice anymore
Cam Ward could have thrown 500 interceptions today
500 touchdowns
Carnot take could have 500 yards
and it just would not have moved me in any way.
I realized it, quite honestly,
after Cam Ward played bad against San Francisco
and then through five touchdown passes
in Saturday's practice two days after that,
I was like, he bounced back, that's fun,
but I could feel inside myself.
I'm not really that excited about this news.
And I have a feeling that you guys feel the same.
There's just nothing that,
can happen in a Titans versus Titans practice right now that can really move me in any way.
You know, again, Alante Taylor, five picks, Kevin Winston, do that.
Jeffrey Simmons was dominant.
Oh, J.C. Latham had his best practice.
But, like, they have played against each other so much at this point that they know who each other are.
They know what they're going to run.
They know what their moves are.
There's nothing fresh.
There's nothing new there.
like everything that I think that we can learn about like, oh, this player is standing out.
Oh, this player has been a big surprise.
This player has been a big disappointment.
Anything that we can learn like that from training camp, we've already learned it.
It's already happened.
There's nothing new that can happen.
There's no new standout that can break out.
There's no new disappointment that can arrive on our door.
There's no new information to glean anymore.
There's nothing new to learn from Titans versus Titans practices.
I feel no emotion when good or bad things happen with it anymore.
I'm just ready to play games.
I'm ready to play other teams.
The only thing that matters to me anymore is what these guys do against other teams.
In real situations that matter, joint practices and the final preseason game.
And we have one more of each.
Bears Thursday, game Saturday, and that is it.
We are done, caring about practice reports and notes and this and that,
blah, blah, none of that really matters that much anymore.
And once we get to cut down day on Sunday,
and I'm going to be here to go live to break down the cuts with you guys,
but once the cuts happen on Sunday,
there's no more talking about practice.
It's time to talk about the Jets, the roster.
what we need to do going forward.
Who's the big X factors?
Where I see wins and losses on the schedule.
Record predictions.
Like we're moving away from the training camp conversation.
It's over.
Today was it.
People don't realize it,
but today was the last day of training camp.
Maybe not technically.
I think one of the practices afterwards or,
no, it's different now because cut down day is gone.
because cut down day has been moved back.
Yeah, it's done.
Like, training camp is over today.
Maybe not technically the Titans, again,
maybe they'll have one more camp practice like on Tuesday,
next Tuesday or something like that,
that they count a week from today,
but they may just, you know,
technically with the cut down day, call it over.
Because it is functionally over.
Training camp is done.
So I don't care about the practices anymore
when the Titans are playing the Titans.
I'm going to be excited for that joint practice
against the Bears on Thursday.
I'm ready for the preseason game on Saturday night
and breaking that down on Sunday when the roster cuts come.
But I am ready to move forward
from this training camp preseason time period
and move into regular season territory.
And it's essentially here.
I mean, every episode from here on out,
Thursday will be a recap of practice.
Friday I'll probably have a bonus episode
preview in the preseason.
season game. Saturday night will go live after the preseason game. Sunday will go live to
break down cuts. And again, that's it. The book has been closed on the preseason process.
And it's all about the New York Jets and all about starting to, we hear, oh, it's all vanilla,
no game plan, no scheme, all of that. Well, that changes after the Bears preseason game. Now it is
about game planning for the Jets, scheming for the Jets, and getting ready for what the Titans are
going to do to attack New York in week one. We're here. We made it. So I just, again,
I haven't cared about practice updates in a couple of days. They don't move me anymore.
And also let me say this, and I can't help it. I just can't help myself, but throw in my
little petty individual gripes here at the end. But you guys who listen to the show every day
and listen to my content all year long on the Ticktack Titans channel
and now the Titans hits or anywhere else that I'm at,
you know that, you know, the majority of my content is
my own personal thoughts on scheme, on the film,
my own personal opinions of this player is important, this player isn't,
sign this guy, trade this guy, but all my own original thoughts and analysis.
But during this training camp period, I will tell you,
I aggregate practice reports from the beat riders.
Tehran Davenport from ESPN, Jim Wyatt from Tennessee Titans.com, A to Z, Paul Kaharski, Terry,
and John, you know, Nick Suss.
I aggregate practice reports from the beat reporters who report it at practice,
and I talk about that on the podcast, like every other Titans podcast that is out there.
I do the same thing as everybody else.
Welcome to the media landscape.
It's called aggregation.
Thank you to the great beat reporters who cover the Titans
who give training camp reports that can be aggregated.
Thank you for your service throughout this time.
But make no mistake whatsoever.
This couple of weeks of training camp
is literally the only time that my content
would depend on reports from anybody for that matter.
So thank you for your reporting, beat reporters.
We appreciate you.
I just wanted to say that.
Anyways.
With that being said,
that's going to do it for me today.
Folks, stick around.
Everybody who's watching live right now,
stick around.
The Titan Squad Show is about to go live.
I'm going to be there with Brad Hopkins, Julian Minnesone.
But that's going to do it for today's edition of the show.
I am your host, Tyler Rowland.
And as always, this was locked on Titans.
