Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Cam Ward & Tennessee Titans DIVISION DREAMS ALIVE After WINLESS WEEKEND in AFC South
Episode Date: September 22, 2026The Tennessee Titans are sitting at 0-2, but their dreams of winning the AFC South are still alive. Every team in the South lost in Week 2 and only the Jacksonville Jaguars have won a game. With Jaxso...n Dart expected to miss for the New York Giants in Week 3 and the Houston Texans and Indianapolis colts on the schedule soon, the Titans have a great chance to flip their season around and be leading the division by Halloween. Through two weeks we have seen a good amount of snaps from the Titans key players, making it a great time to take stock of how each Titans starting is playing with Titan Up and Titan Down! JC Latham has been excellent through two weeks and his neighbor, Fernando Carmona, has done well too. While on defense, Jeffery Simmons has dominated while Anthony Hill has impressed. However, there are some issues and players not at their best currently that need to improve like Dan Moore and Keldric Faulk. The Tennessee Titans dream of winning the ASC South is still alive.
And after week two in the NFL, their chances just got a lot more realistic.
I'll explain why on today's edition of Locked on Titans.

We're going to do tighten up and tighten down through the first two weeks of the season.
I'm going to tell you the players that have been a disappointment so far
and the players that I've been impressed with so far.
But we got to start with the Titans chances in the AFC South
because after everything that has happened in week two of the NFL season,
the Titans' chances of winning the division are more realistic than ever.
And that starts with what has happened in the AFC South.
The only win in the division is Jacksonville, week one, against the Cleveland Browns.
The Texans are 0.2.
The Colts are 0.2.
And as you know, the Titans are 0 and 2.
but not only are the Colts and the Texans,
oh and two,
but both of those team's losses are coming in the AFC.
Jacksonville's only loss was in the AFC.
So these aren't NFC losses,
don't matter to, you know, playoff tiebreakers and division tiebreakers
and all these other things that can matter for the Titans.
So basically the Titans are in a spot.
where they've only lost one AFC game,
which is the same as all the other teams in the division.
They've lost an NFC game, which is less punitive
than what the other teams have faced.
And when you look at the schedules of these teams going forward,
there is clearly a shot for the Titans to get back
and by the end of week six,
by the time we get to Halloween,
the Titans could have first place in the AFC South.
And I am somebody who predicted the Titans to win six games.
I am somebody who called the Jets game a must-win game for the team that I didn't think that they could rebound from.
I am someone who does not believe that the Titans can win the AFC South this year.
But I have to look at what's ahead of the Titans and ahead of these teams and admit it is 100% possible.
So number one, the Titans schedule.
The Titans play the New York Giants next.
Jackson Dart is now going to be out for the season.
They are going to get James Winston.
and listen, the Titans are fully capable of going to New York
and losing to James Winston and the New York Giants.
I am not going to sit here and pretend like the Titans are going to go dominate that game.
That's going to be a close game and they may lose.
But they certainly have a better chance of beating the Giants
without Jackson Dart coming off a Monday night football loss
on the other side of the country where Andrew Thomas got hurt,
Brian Burns got her, Malik neighbors got banged up.
Like, if the Titans can't beat the banged-up giants without Jackson Dart,
with their backup quarterback in coming off a pretty good performance
against the Philadelphia Eagles,
then they are going to beat anybody.
You know what I mean?
Like, we're talking about the Titans potentially leading the AFC South
by the end of week six.
They need to beat this version of the New York Giants
if they're going to deserve to even be in that conversation.
But they can do it.
Now, the Titans have to go to Baltimore in week four.
and play the Ravens.
I know that the Ravens just lost at home to the Saints,
but I don't think the Titans can beat the Ravens in that game.
I don't see it happen.
So if the Titans win this week against the Giants
and then they lose against Baltimore,
there'll be one in three.
Well, Jacksonville plays New England this week.
New England's a pretty good team.
New England could win that game, Jacksonville.
There you go.
The Titans would be, yeah, through two weeks,
two more weeks of the season, they would be one and three.
Jacksonville plays New England and at Cincinnati.
It could be two losses for Jacksonville.
They could be one and three.
Houston and Indy play each other.
So one of those teams is going to 0 and 3,
meaning the best that they could be is 1 and 3.
And the team that wins, Houston plays Dallas in week 4,
and then Indy plays Washington.
So honestly, I'm hoping that Houston beats Indianapolis
because indie schedule is easier.
But then after the Titans play Jacksonville and Baltimore,
they literally play at home against Houston,
and Houston looks way more beatable than we expect,
especially if they don't get Nico Collins back,
they aren't going to beat anybody.
He is the heart and soul of their whole team.
So the Titans could beat the Texans in week five at home.
I think that's way more possible than I thought it was a week ago.
And then the Titans play Indianapolis in Indy.
I don't think the Titans win that game necessarily.
But again, it feels way more possible when Alec Pierce is going to be out for a while for Indianapolis,
which makes their offense.
I mean, Tyler Warren's still good.
Josh Downs still good.
They brought in Darius Slayton.
They have Keenan Allen.
But Allen may even be suspended for a DUI.
You know what I mean?
Like, I can't be super worried about the Colts weapons.
And the Titans' biggest problem is the secondary.
Well, the Titans can sell out to stop the run in that game.
And if they stop the run, the Colts defense is not very good.
The Titans could absolutely win that game.
So even if the Titans lose in Baltimore to the Ravens,
if they beat the Giants this week like they should,
and they win their two division games,
which would be required to lead the division,
you should have to win some division games.
But if they were to beat Houston and Holm
and beat Indianapolis,
which are nowhere near and possible.
The Titans could be three and three after six weeks
with a game against the Cleveland Browns
to go to four and three and have a winning record.
And again, Jacksonville plays New England
at Cincinnati, Philadelphia, and Houston.
That one in three, two and two at best.
Let's say they're one and three.
Now Jacksonville is two,
and four with a division loss.
Or let's say they beat Houston.
Fine. Maybe Jacksonville is better
with a division win.
So they'd have one division win
and they'd be two and four.
Houston, they are at Indy.
Dallas,
Tennessee, Jacksonville.
If we're saying that they beat Indianapolis
but they lose to Dallas,
we said if the Titans beat them,
they lose to Jacksonville, they're one and three
in that stretch. They're 0 and 2.
That's one in five.
Indianapolis is 0 and 2.
Let's say they lose to Houston.
They beat Washington.
They beat Pittsburgh.
They lose to Tennessee.
Now they're 2 and 4.
The Titans would be 3 and 3 leading the division.
I mean, it's not.
Is it what is going to happen?
The Titans have to hold up their end of the bargain.
But I don't think it's absolutely insane to think
that the Titans would beat the Giants this week
and then find a way to win one of Houston and Indianapolis.
And now they're two and four,
and they're still down one game in the division or tiding the division even.
So it's like, do I think the Titans are going to win the division?
No, I do not.
But I got to tell you, I did not think that they would have as realistic of a path
because let's just do this week.
Jacksonville, I think New England's going to beat Jacksonville this week.
personally, that's not going to be my pick.
I think New England's going to beat Jacksonville.
If New England beats Jacksonville,
one of Houston and Indy have to lose.
So one of them's going to win and go to one and three.
If Jacksonville loses to New England,
or go to one and two, I should say,
one of them's going to go to 0 and 3.
And Jacksonville, if they lose their one and two,
the Titans win, they're one and two, like,
and their tie.
It's all right there.
So as bad as it felt against the Jets,
and even though they found a way to lose against the Eagles,
because this division is doing nothing early in the year,
the Titans are still right in it.
And this is the path.
Even if the Titans aren't great this year
and can't be in the wild card race
because the AFC West is too good,
and you got two teams in the East,
and the Bengals and the Ravens,
and it's just too hard.
if the AFC South comes back down to Earth this year, Houston and Jacksonville and even
Indianapolis's hot start, if the AFC South comes back down to Earth this year, that is the path
for the Titans making the playoffs, is winning their division in a year when the division
wins at 9 and 8 or something like that.
That's the path.
And, you know, it may be a dream, but it is more realistic than ever.
But now, let's do tighten up and tighten down through the first two weeks.
Let's talk about players who have played well and been impressive
and players who need to play better.

Fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast.
We talked about why the Titans' AFC South Dream is still alive in the realistic path
to the Titans leading the division by the end of week six.
But I want to dive into player performances.
We talk so much about the big picture items.
Cam Ward and the offensive structure, the O-line,
the defensive coverage, the pass rush.
I want to talk about individual players
and guys who really do deserve some love here
for how they've played through two weeks.
Tighten up for Jeffrey Simmons.
Jeffrey Simmons has been absolutely dominant.
Right now, Jeffrey Simmons has 19 pass rush wins.
That is the most in the NFL for any player.
by four.
The next closest player in the NFL in terms of
pass rush wins, according to ESPN,
is Dallas Turner from the Minnesota Vikings with 15.
And Big Jeff has 19.
Pass rush wins.
He has been by far the best defensive player
in the NFL through two weeks without a doubt.
And if Miles Garrett is going to stay hurt
and miss games and all that,
Big Jeff has a real chance
to win defensive player of the year.
could just win some games.
Just win some games.
I got to give a big shout out too to J.C. Latham.
Latham has been rock solid.
I know that everybody has been on him about that Jalen Carter sack at the end of the game.
Again, I don't think that that is fully J.C. Latham's fault.
Pro football focus also didn't give that sack to him.
Robert Sala also explained why that was just a scheme win for the Eagles and a great play
play by Jalen Carter.
They were doing a play-action run fake to the opposite side.
They did not think that somebody would come that wide on
the bootleg. He just read the play perfectly and was right there. That's not necessarily on J.C.
Latham. Now, Latham could be better in run blocking. That absolutely is the case.
But in pass blocking, Latham has just been spectacular. He's been really, really solid.
Only one pressure allowed in this game against the Eagles after two pressures allowed in week one.
he did get a sack in week one,
but I'm telling you, man,
like Latham's performance
is very, very encouraging.
And right there with him,
I'd give you Fernando Carmona.
Carmona had some struggles this week
in run blocking.
The Eagles defensive front is very, very good.
Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis,
what is it?
Moru Ojimo, if you don't know him,
you better get acquainted.
He's about to get a whole lot of money.
summer. But the Eagles just have a really, really good defensive front.
It was hard for the Titans interior offensive line.
Peter Skoronsky, Austin Shloatman, Fernando Carmona, even J.C.
Latham. Like, they had their struggles with run blocking.
You know what I mean? Even though the Titans were able to run for four yards per carry
and 120 yards total. It was still hard for the Titans.
The Eagles, again, have a great front.
I thought Carmona and Latham, some of Carmona's reps against Jalen Carter were
impressive.
Like, we have to be, again, this is part of the larger discussion about the offensive line,
but we have to be over the moon right now with how Carmona and J.C. Latham are playing.
It hasn't been perfect.
But, man, that is, it has been good early on.
I would also tell you that Anthony Hill deserves this praise.
Right now, Anthony Hill is leading the NFL in tackles.
Something that slipped under my radar, admittedly.
Anthony Hill set a record in week one for the most tackles in a rookie debut in NFL history.
He's breaking records already.
Now, Anthony Hill was not as good in this game as he was against the Jets.
I will tell you that.
He got out of position in the run game a couple of times.
Got, you know, bit up a little too far a couple of times,
left the middle of the field open.
But this is what we talked about.
he's going to make rookie mistakes.
I would rather have Anthony Hill out there doing what he does
and making rookie mistakes in learning
than not have him out on the field.
So Anthony Hill has been very impressive early on.
I also have to talk about Elykoa there.
I-O has been so solid.
He has been the Titans' best wide receiver through two weeks,
and I know that's a very low bar to clear,
but he catches the touchdown,
should have had another easy touchdown,
if Cam threw a decent pass.
I know you guys want to protect Cam Ward so bad
that you're going to blame that on Elyke.
Two hands, he needs to catch it.
If your buddy threw you that pass
in a backyard football game,
you would tell him that was a terrible pass.
You would not defend your buddy and say,
oh, I got to catch that, man.
You're running full speed one direction
and the guy throws at three yards behind you
towards your defender in the other direction.
That is a terrible pass.
That is more Cam Ward's fault than it is Elykeyeh's fault.
He was wide open on the.
the play in. I.O. has been open for a couple of opportunities where he didn't get the ball.
Cam gave him a good ball in that post that he kept, caught perfectly and got yards after catch.
After the hurdle, Helic Io Manor looks spectacular right now. He looks like the best weapon that
the Titans have on offense. And that's exciting news. I know it's disappointing because Tate hasn't
been great, but that's exciting news, in my opinion. I also want to go back to the defense.
John Franklin Myers.
I know that he was really quiet in week one against the Jets,
but he flashed in that game against the Eagles.
He had four pressures,
got a hit on Jalen Hertz, got him down.
John Franklin Myers is going to be all right.
He made a huge play in the run game
on the first play of the game
with Jeffrey Simmons to slow down Sequin Barclay.
John Franklin Myers is going to be fine.
I think he's trending on his way up,
and I got to give credit to Jacob Martin.
There's a clip going around,
of Jacob Martin looking like he's giving low effort on the final play of the game.
Or maybe it was the second to last play of the game, the penultimate play
where he hits Devante Adams on the sideline.
But Jacob Martin led the Titans with seven pressures.
He got the only, or got that one sat on Jalen Hurts.
Should have had a second sat there on that final drive
that some people say should have been an intentional grounding.
Jacob Martin played really, really well in this game.
And I know that that one clip is going around of him not looking like he's
given great effort, but in my opinion, he was exhausted.
He played 60 snaps in 115 degree weather.
He is not loafing.
He was exhausted.
He was exhausted.
So let's give Jacob Martin a little bit of a break.
He played great for the Titans.
Based on his expectations as a player and who we think he is,
Jacob Martin played great in that game.
We got to give him credit.
He's heating up.
And then Marcus Harris, hasn't been perfect for Marcus Harris,
but I didn't expect perfection.
Marcus Harris has been pretty solid for the Titans.
He knows where to be.
That interception that he made wasn't even...
He saved Alante Taylor who fell down.
Marcus Harris looks like a solid player for the Titans.
They can be fine with Marcus Harris in the slot.
Also got to mention Alante Taylor.
I know that Alante Taylor has given up some plays.
He's given up a couple slants on third and shorts.
I understand that.
But I think overall, Alante Taylor's been solid.
He didn't get whooped like Michael Parsons got whooped.
Yes, he's not a number one elite, Pat Sertan type corner.
I agree with that.
But Alante Taylor has been solid early on this season.
He's not an outright disaster, in my opinion.
And I think that's critical for the Titans.
But again, everybody's so mad about losing.
They hate the secondary, all of that.
I just, when I watched the tape, it's funny.
I said this the other day to, uh,
to my girl. I said, whenever I watch the tape,
what I think is good is never as good as it seems.
And what I think is bad is never as bad as it seems.
And that goes for the secondary, the offensive line,
Cam Ward, everything. If I think it's really good,
it's usually never quite that good.
If I think it's really bad, it's usually not quite that bad.
And that's how I feel about a lot of things with the Titans right now.
But with that being said,
we do have to talk about the players who I think have been a disappointment so far.
and that starts, in my opinion,
on the offensive side of the ball with Cornell tape.

Fans, let's cap off today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast.
Again, we talked about the Titans,
AFC South Dreams still being alive.
We talked about Titan up the players that I think deserve a little bit more credit.
And I forgot Femiola Dejao and Cody Barton, quite honestly.
I didn't read my notes properly.
And I got to give a shout out to Femiola Dejo and Cody Barton.
Cody Barton has played above what everybody expected from him.
He was really good in that game against the Eagles playing outside linebacker.
I think is a better fit for him in this system than playing Mike linebacker.
And then Femio dejo continues to make splash plays on defense.
And he deserves more and more opportunities.
He's playing a lot better than Caldric Falk.
And that's kind of where we start.
Because my two biggest titan downs for the Titans through the first two weeks of the season,
number one, Cornell Tate and number two, Keldrick Falk.
And look, Cardinal Tate actually played pretty good in week one against the Jets.
He should have had more opportunities.
He should have.
But that drop that he had on the Cam Ward pass, it just, just frustrating to me.
He had a couple of drops late in training camp.
He had a drop in the Titans game against Seattle.
Now he's having, this guy was billed as someone who has elite hands.
So the amount of drops I've seen from Cornell Tate,
in the past six weeks to a month.
It's still too many.
He is the Titans number one guy.
If you're wide open on a post-rout
to get a first down on a third down
and Cam throws you a perfect ball,
yeah, there's going to be traffic over the middle.
Catch the ball.
You're the elite hands guy.
Catch the ball.
This offense cannot afford
to scheme up opportunities for Carnell Tate
for those opportunities to be open
and for him not to catch the football with a perfect pass.
It just cannot afford that.
Can't right now.
So that's a tighten down for Carnel Tate.
But Caldric Falk too, and listen, this is to be expected.
I told you guys that Keldrick Falk is a player
that we're going to have to have immense patience with.
He's one of the youngest players in the NFL, totally new system,
totally raw as a pass rusher.
You can use that to critique the draft pick if you want.
But whether you like it or not,
Keldrick Folk requires patience.
But nonetheless, I'm not giving him a tighten down
because he doesn't deserve patience
and he needs to be good right now.
I'm giving him a tighten down simply because he has not played good football
through the first two weeks.
He has not been effective.
He has not helped the team.
He's been an outright disaster and a lot of pass rush snaps.
He's just not ready.
So play more Femiola-Dagio.
and that's why, you know,
Jacob Martin looking good is a good thing for the Titans.
I would also tell you,
tighten down for Wondale Robinson.
And I don't know that it's Wondell Robinson's fault necessarily.
I will tell you this in week one against the Jets,
they got real physical with Wondale Robinson on his releases,
and he didn't handle it very well,
and it made it a lot of congestion for the Titans' offense
because he was just getting bullied all over the field.
The Titans had to overpay for Wondale Robinson
to get him in and just increase.
the talent level of the group.
But, you know, I would have a hard time right now
giving more opportunities to Wondell Robinson
and less to Tate and I.O. and Ridley.
I would rather throw the ball to Ridley, I.O. and Tate
than throw the ball to Wondell Robinson right now.
And I know that's frustrating because of the money,
but he's just not making a big enough impact right now.
And sometimes he gets knocked off his routes
because he's not physical enough.
Calvin Ridley has
Calvin Ridley played all right in that game
but I'm going to give Calvin Ridley a tighten down
because
I think he is purposefully
trying to get cut
in week one against the Jets
it was the first or the second
offensive series
Calvin Ridley smacked the guy in the head
like on purpose
full on full hand
smack the dude in the helmet
the refs did not see it.
He was fined $13,000 for that move.
On the second drive of the Titans,
he smacked an Eagles player in the head again.
And I put the clip of it up on Twitter
and you can see it's a run blocking rep.
And he's going across the field to get to the DB.
and he gets to him and it's just normal interaction.
It's not even very long.
Like, it's not like they're tussling for a long time or anything.
Calvin just kind of puts hands on him and then it's over.
During the play,
Calvin Riddley literally looks over to the sideline,
which, in my opinion,
is to check and make sure that the referee is looking at him.
He looks to make, because last week in week one,
he didn't get a penalty.
He didn't get caught.
he got fined, but he didn't get caught and didn't get a penalty and ruin a drive.
So this time he made sure that the referee was looking.
He turns, looks to the sideline right at the referee,
and then looks back to the Eagles guy and smacks him right in the helmet again.
And the Titans get a penalty at second and 21 instead of second and six,
and the drive is ruined.
I'm telling you, he's doing it on purpose.
Is he...
you know, is he trying to, you know, go back to his old ways, so to speak?
Is he just trying to get released and trying to blatantly make it obvious
that he's hurting the team?
Why would he back-to-back weeks on the same exact drive,
do the same exact thing,
and check and make sure that the referees are watching before he did it?
That's a tighten down.
I don't know about that.
Amani Hooker, Amoni Hooker didn't play terrible,
and he had the interception
and that's going to get everybody
on his side, I get it.
But Ammoni Hooker is a tighten down for me.
He's slow-footed.
He can't cover anymore.
He played good.
He played an intermediate zone
and red zone coverage
and got an interception
and played it very well.
But out in space,
like when Devonte Smith ran past him
like Amani Hooker
had combat boots on,
he's just a liability.
And on a couple of play,
one on Adonai Mitchell,
one to Garrett Wilson from week one.
He was just too slow to get over
and get to the wide receiver.
So I know Amani Hooker
made the interception, had good grades, all that,
but he's a tighten down for me.
He's a liability in the secondary for the Titans.
But let me know your tightenups,
your tighten downs, what you agree and disagree on with me.
Very excited to see what you guys have to say.
That's going to do it for me today, though, folks.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland,
and this was locked on.
tight.
