Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Carnell Tate CAN'T BE STOPPED at Tennessee Titans OTAs & Kevin Winston INTERCEPTS Cam Ward
Episode Date: June 8, 2026The Tennessee Titans got back out on the practice field on Monday and once again Carnell Tate was making big plays. Tate had another downfield catch from Cam Ward and at this point it is hard not to g...et overly excited about what the young pairing can do when the football counts. On defense, one thing all fans should have been watching for is Kevin Winston. The second year safety could be a star and he made a star play by intercepting Cam Ward in the red zone. Jermaine Johnson also made his debut at OTAs and his presence is critical for the Titans defense. Outside of Ward, it sounds like Mitch Trubisky had a good day in his debut while Will Levis once again struggled at times. However, that didn't stop some young receivers from making some noise, like Bryce Oliver. Cornell Tate cannot be stopped at Tennessee Titans OTAs, and at this point, you have no choice
but to buy the hype. I'll tell you exactly what happened on today's edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast Network,
your team every day. Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast. I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans.

On today's show, I'm going to break down everything.
You need to know from Tennessee Titans OTAs on Monday.
We're going to talk about Kevin Winston, making a big time playing,
getting a pick on Cam Ward.
We're going to talk about the performance of some of the young guys on offense,
but we got to start where we have every single practice breakdown so far,
and that's with Carnell Tate,
because he simply cannot be stopped in every single practice.
He finds a way to make a big-time play.
And in this practice, again, according to multiple reports,
and we'll get there every single, every report, every report, every observation,
everything, Carnotate, Carnot take, 50-yard bomb.
down the middle of the field
in the end zone and poor Micah Robinson.
Another big time play
for Cornell Tate on Michael Robinson.
I know people are going to be,
it's Michael Robb, it's Michael Rob, I don't care, man.
Every single practice,
this dude is out there making some miraculous play,
some in Creighton jumping over top of a cornerback,
getting downfield for a deep ball.
What would be,
one of the best plays of the entire season for the Titans,
a 50-yard bomb for a touchdown from Cam Ward to Cornell Tate.
If that happened in a game,
we would watch that replay for 18 months straight.
And they're doing it every single day in practice.
Every single day in practice, there's a miraculous play.
So this one's a 50-yard bomb for a touchdown down the field.
from Cam Ward to Carnell Tate.
But remember it was two plays down the right-hand sideline
of Tate one hand in it and jumping over top and moss and a guy
and then remember a touchdown in the back of the end zone
and a deep pass-off play action in the first OTA.
And again, that's the point.
At some point, all of this evidence is overwhelming, right?
Every practice, every single reporter you hear talk about
Cornell Tate, who is there in person,
the people that I've spoken to,
he looks like the best player on the field.
He's the best football player on the field.
He stands out.
He's dominant.
He's wide receiver one.
It just gives off the wide receiver one vibes
the whole practice.
And remember,
these are only the practices
that we're hearing about.
these are only the practices that are open to the media.
This isn't even the majority of the...
We got one practice out of the three that the Titans had
each of the past two weeks.
Now they were lucky enough and shout out to the Titans.
Thank you.
To open up three practices this week to the media.
But in the only practice that was open in each of the last two weeks,
Cardinal Tate did something spectacular.
So it's every reporter, every observation, every single practice.
And if you're like, oh, well, that doesn't mean that he's bawling out when the media isn't there.
Well, just last week, Cedric Gray said, no, he's the truth.
He's an absolute dog.
Cedric Gray said he stopped him during practice after he saw him make a case.
edge and say, you're cold, bro. You're the truth.
So, while it would be easy to say, oh, well, he's just doing good in what we see,
if his teammates are praising him, his defensive teammates,
who aren't working with him every day and in the same meeting rooms,
and his defensive teammates, not even a cornerback who's going against him,
a linebacker is like, man, this guy's going crazy.
out here. Whoa. Like, look at this dude. He's nasty.
That means he's doing it when we aren't there.
That means he's doing it when the media isn't there to view it and give reports and take videos and
and tell us and tweet it out and when we aren't able to break down practice.
So in the times that we haven't seen, Cardinal tape has been equally impressive.
because his teammates are there when we're not.
His teammates are watching what we don't get to see
and hearing what we don't get to know about.
And his teammates, from the other side of the ball
and position he doesn't even go against often.
Giving him praise.
Put it all together, folks.
Connect all of these dots.
This is a constellation at this point.
And what is a constellation?
Except a whole lot of star power.
Write that one down, folks.
In my bag.
But the point is,
how long can I hold down the hype train?
How long can we tamp down expectations?
I say all the time, don't fit him for the gold jacket just yet.
I literally say it every episode.
But, you know, not saying, okay, yeah, go fit him for the gold jacket.
But this dude's probably going to be a dog.
Like if Cardo Tate,
wasn't wide receiver one worthy
at this point with what we've heard,
I would be surprised.
That there's no pads, it's May, it's June,
it's OTAs,
Alante and Flod aren't out there,
it's not the full defense,
this and that,
but, but you could say all of that.
You could say all of that,
and you would be right.
I can't argue against any of that.
But if that is the evidence against,
I'm just saying that the evidence for,
is mounting.
It's because it's not just,
oh, Tyler's over exaggerating.
He made one 50-yard catch
and now he's this beast
and, you know, it's just a handful of plays.
The people who are literally watching it happen
in real time
are telling you, are telling me.
No.
He looks as good as it sounds.
It looks as good
as it feels.
and again, at some point,
if he keeps doing it,
and we'll know this week, right?
Because it's not just one practice this week,
like it's been before.
It's going to be three practices all in one week.
They're going to practice tomorrow too,
and we're going to be here to break it down,
so don't miss it.
But if he makes another big play tomorrow,
it makes another big play on Thursday.
Like, and take this into account,
his opportunities to make big-time plays down the field
were limited in today's practice
because according to reports, the Titans did a ton of red zone work.
So, there's not even the opportunity to do that.
Now, I did, from some of the videos that were posted,
see the Titans did work quite a bit on some deep stuff,
like the wide receivers did deep releases down the field.
The quarterbacks were like trying to throw it in a bucket
from 45 yards out.
I think Jim Wyatt had.
They were thrown from 45, 25, 25, 15, something like that.
It might have been 40, 20, and 10,
something throwing it in a, but they were working on some deep concepts.
But for most of the day, it seemed like they were in red zone drills.
People saying, oh, the Titans were in a red zone drill,
red zone opportunity for all three quarterbacks, this and that,
which that's how practice works, guys.
There are some practices that are dedicated to two minutes,
and some practices that are dedicated to the run game,
and some practices that are dedicated to red zone.
zone. Because it's like a, you know, it's like video games, they'll introduce the combat system first.
And then they'll introduce the exploration system. And then they'll introduce the traversal system.
And then the skill trees. And it's like almost like the first hour of any good video game is almost like a tutorial of sorts.
Well, think about it like that for football. When you're installing the offense, you are teaching someone how to run your offense.
it's best to break it up in sections.
We're going to learn red zone stuff today.
We're going to work third down,
and we're going to work two minute,
and we're going to work four minute,
and we're going to work, you know,
shot plays from the 40 yard,
and we're going to, you know,
do you see what I mean?
That's how they do it.
So big red zone day for the Titans,
and with that,
not a great day for the quarterbacks.
And I saw someone say,
I can't remember exactly here,
that it might have been Cam Ward's worst day
of OTAs that the media has been at.
so far, which is interesting, but they're in the red zone.
And when you're in the red zone, things are tighter.
And they're so tight that Cam Ward through an interception to my guy, Kevin Winston,
let's talk about the defense.

Fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast.
Again, we're breaking down everything you need to know from Tennessee Titans OTAs.
We talked about Carnell Tate continuing to make big-time plays,
and we just can't keep the hype in the bottle for much longer, folks.
But it was a tougher day for the Titans quarterback room,
including Cam Ward, Willis.
Mr. M. Triske was pretty good, though.
we're going to talk more about the offensive focus of that and the quarterbacks
and everything towards the end of the show.
But Cam Ward got intercepted in the red zone drills.
He had a lot of throwaways according to reports.
Just wasn't quite there.
But the interception went to Kevin Winston.
Now, I saw a report.
I think it was Terry McCormick who said it was fourth and 15 or it might have been Jim
Wyatt.
I get it all confused.
So many different reports, observations, all that.
but fourth and 15 in the red zone
Cam Ward had to fit it in somewhere
and he kind of threw it towards Gunner Helm
and it basically went right to Kevin Winston
and Kevin Winston picked it off.
And you could say, oh, he threw it right to him, you know,
it's fourth and 15, he had to do it,
doesn't mean that Kevin Winston is, but you know what?
I'm not going to throw it out.
You can't just throw it away and say,
oh, well, Kevin Winston gets no credit.
for making the interception in the red zone.
Kevin, oh, you know,
a dummy could have sat there
and caught the ball.
Well, one,
he had to be in the right place.
If Kevin Winston was in the absolute wrong place,
nowhere close to where he was supposed to be,
totally lost,
he isn't going to get the interception.
Okay?
So understanding where to be in the proper place
and good location and all that,
that has to give some credit to Kevin Winston.
Not only that,
he called it.
What do they say about defensive backs?
They're just wide receivers who can't catch.
He called it.
Are we not going to give him any credit for that?
You know, be where you're supposed to be,
make the play when it's thrown to you,
why can that not be a good play for Kevin Winston?
And that's what I wanted.
I literally said on Friday's show,
or on last night's show,
when we previewed OTAs,
I want to see Kevin Winston.
make some plays.
Get an interception.
Get a PBU,
knock something away over the middle,
blitz in, tip a pass.
Just, I want to hear about Kevin Winston
making impact plays.
So, yeah, maybe it was fourth of 15.
Maybe it was an advantageous situation
in the red zone for Kevin Winston to make a play.
But he made one.
That's better than nothing.
That's better than him doing nothing.
You know what I mean?
So, like, yeah,
I'm going to take the circumstances for one.
what they are.
But that doesn't mean that's going to 100% eliminate the excitement for Kevin Winston.
So good for you, Kevin Winston.
But on defense again, Jermaine Johnson.
And I saw multiple reports out there.
I think it was Toran Davenport and said,
Jermaine Johnson made multiple plays in the backfield on a current drive.
And then I saw another report say he made multiple plays throughout the day and looked good.
This was Jermaine Johnson's debut in front of the media.
for the Tennessee Titans.
Maybe Jermaine Johnson had participated in some other practice
that wasn't open to media.
But there's the first time we've seen Jermaine Johnson
and think about how important
Jermaine Johnson's going to be to the Tennessee Titans this year.
He is their number one edge rusher.
And the only other pure edge rusher
that the Titans have that I think could be starting level
is Femi.
Keldrick Falk,
is more of an inside-outside guy, right?
Can he be a certified starter on day one?
At Edge?
It's fair to wonder that.
It's fair to have that question.
So if you have a rookie who's an inside-out tweener
who needed a lot of development anyway in Keldrick Falk,
and then you have a second-year player
who only played six games last year,
who was a massive development project
as a linebacker, Edge, tweener,
And those are two of your top three edges.
Well, your one veteran pure, every down developed edge rusher,
better be good, right?
If Jermaine Johnson is not good this year,
the Titans are in trouble on the edge.
They are in trouble.
So having Jermaine Johnson,
show back up, or,
be out there, who knows.
And play well.
He chased down Tosier Spears on a run
and, you know, caught him on a catch out of the backfield,
you know,
running around.
And that's important too,
because coming off the Achilles,
I know he played last year,
but you always hear people don't get to 100%
until they're a year removed from their return.
So I want to hear about Jermaine Johnson moving around.
Jermaine Johnson looking good.
Jermaine Johnson, looking spry, being bursty, chasing down Tadge Spears,
who's a jitterbug and fast as lightning.
Like, that's good stuff because they're going to need him.
It is going to be a disaster at edge if Jermaine Johnson isn't good.
And part of my concern is
we're here again.
Still no Femiola Dejo out on the field.
Still no Femi.
He is falling behind his development.
And with how crucial
this offseason is to Femi
and he is truly banged up
and, I mean, God,
for mismanitary minicamp next week.
Maybe he's not 100% to start a training camp.
Who knows?
We can't know right now.
But if he does not participate in June
this week,
next week's mandatory minicamp,
if Femi cannot be on the field at all for these summer practices,
there is no way that his development will not be hurt by it.
Now, does that mean that he can't be good?
Does that mean he can't still hit his potential?
Does that mean that he...
No.
All of that's still on the board.
but I'm going to have a lot less faith in it happening
from missing all this time.
This is critical development time for players.
Training camp is about making the roster.
Training camp is about finding your role on the team.
This time of year is about individual technique.
It's about improving as a player
so that you are a better version of yourself
when training camp starts and you can use that to prove
this is the role I should have on this team.
And clearly, this is week three now out of four weeks.
It's not three straight weeks.
It was one, two, break for a whole week.
And then this week, and Femmy's still not out there.
It's not good.
It is not good.
Now, for some other attendance-related items,
still no Big Jeff, no Cordell Flot.
Apparently, Alante Taylor isn't out there either.
He's working out doing something else.
And then no Amani Hooker in this one.
Hooker's been around.
So he's probably just taking some time off,
doing something personal.
You know, these are voluntary workouts.
Next week is mandatory minicamp.
But there's your attendance update.
And do want to throw this in here.
Shad Banks,
rookie undrafted free agent linebacker,
got an interception on Willison practice today.
So I told you, I want to keep hearing about the young linebackers making plays.
And there's a young linebacker making a play.
But speaking of the interception, again, it came on Will Levis,
who as well as Cam Ward did not have a very good day.

Today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast.
Again, breaking down Tennessee Titans practice on Monday.
Titans OTAs, their third week of them careening quickly towards mandatory minicamp next week.
We talked about Cornell Tate continuing to make plays.
Kevin Winston got an interception along with some defensive notes.
Let's go back to the offense.
Now, though, again, the quarterbacks had a struggle bus of a day outside of a guy like Mitch Trubiske.
Most reports said had a pretty clean day.
Before we get into it, though, do want to thank you for making Locked on Titans,

But
the quarterbacks, Cam Ward,
again, I saw someone call it
maybe his worst practice
that media has been out to
of OTAs, but again
it makes sense. They're in the Red Zone.
The windows are tighter.
They haven't fully practiced
red zone yet. First experience.
with it. All that different stuff, all those different caveats.
But again, like I said, last week, I'm going to keep saying it.
You don't want the offense to dominate every single day.
The Titans defense should win days.
We want the Titans defense to be good.
And quite frankly, if the Titans are going to, you know, like make the playoffs,
win nine games, eight games, seven games.
If the Titans are going to overperform or go to the top end of their spectrum,
it's probably going to be mostly because the defense is awesome.
The offense could be improved,
but the defense being great is what's going to lead this team to more victories.
Absolutely.
So you want the defense to win days.
You don't want the Titans red zone defense to be gutter ball.
so not bad to hear.
But from an offensive standpoint,
Cam struggled through the interception to Kevin Winston.
Again, a lot of throwaways in the red zone.
Will Levis had the interception to Shad Banks,
almost had another one according to reports,
struggle as well.
But Mitch Trubisky,
Mitch Trubisky was good.
And it makes sense because
older player, experienced player, knows the system.
Apparently Mitch Trubisky is just operating smoothly out there.
He knows the checks, he knows all the calls,
knows what to expect, knows where to go, knows what he wants.
And that is why Mitch Trubisky was signed
so that he can show Cam Ward all that stuff,
tell him what he's seeing,
hey, this is why I checked to this against this coverage.
I saw this cornerback and this leverage.
That tipped me off to this.
I wanted that route combination on the outside.
We went to that.
We changed their, hey, they had this coverage.
We had this concept, this play.
We got to get out of that and go to this.
Hey, I wanted to be in.
Those are the conversations that make Cam Ward the best version of himself.
So having a Mitch Trubisky there who could execute that on tape,
explain it to him in the quarterback room,
tell him what he was thinking and let Cam Ward into his thought process.
That is literally why Mitch Trubisky.
I keep wanting to say hired because, you know, it makes sense.
But that is literally it.
That is why Mitch Trubisky is on the team.
To do that and be a solid backup quarterback.
And by any account,
Trubisky was probably the best quarterback out there on the field today.
Which I find very interesting.
Apparently he had a baby and that's why he was missing practice
over the last couple of weeks, which, hey, I don't blame him.
I would too.
but nonetheless,
Mr. Trubisky's going to be the backup quarterback.
It's not going to be Will Levis.
It's not.
Trubisky's better.
I told you that when he was signed.
Trubisky's better player.
But you add in that Will Levis's main motivation
is his own NFL career
and Mitch Trubiske's main motivation
is going to be to help Cam Ward
to have the best career that he can have.
It's not really that much of a debate
who should be the quarterback to
and who should clearly be the backup and be on the roster
and all that different stuff.
It's not even close.
Do want to mention
Dan Moore wasn't out there.
He's been in and out of practice.
It seems like I don't like hearing that.
He already isn't a great player,
so let's hope he's not banged up.
Calvin Ridley didn't participate in team drills
or seven on seven once again.
Be slow with the veteran coming back from a serious injury.
Look like I.O. was out there.
D.K. Limited again.
Bryce Oliver.
I'm telling you, Bryce Oliver's wide receiver six.
He's going to make the team.
I promise you that.
Bryce Oliver is going to make the team.
Had a touchdown catch from Mitch Trubiskey,
corner of the end zone according to reports.
Sounds like it was a beautiful throw.
Hopefully we get to look at it.
Titans Media looking at you.
Put it out.
Hank Beatty.
Who I keep talking about,
Beady, Bady, whatever.
From Illinois, basically Kyle Phillips.
He's your Kyle Phillips style player.
Caught a touchdown pass from Willeus.
So love to hear that.
But the last name,
that I want to mention here.
Jaron Canick.
I think it was Austin Stanley from A to Z said
Will Levis and Jaron Canick
are going to get hundreds of yards in the preseason.
Canick is a matchup nightmare.
10.3 100-yard dash track star
convert to offense
after being a lineback
for his first three years of college.
500 yards in his only season is a
a tight end in college.
I think Jaron Kanek's going to be a good player.
I think he's going to make the roster.
He's going to be going on special teams.
He's going to play fullback.
He's going to play move tight end.
Jaron Kanek.
The can opener.
I just have a feeling.
He's going to be a player.
He's going to be a fan favorite.
He's going to be useful.
I like Jared Kanek.
But again, the Titans are back out on the practice field tomorrow.
I want to see a little bit of a bounce back from the quarterbacks,
including Cam.
Let's have a little bit of a better day.
But
Titans football, baby, doesn't get any better than this.
So I'll be back with you guys tomorrow to break it all down.
Make sure that you're back here with me.
