the moves made on the Titans practice squad. And of course, the Titans have been dealing with
injuries at kicker and dealing with all of the shuffling, not just this year, but seems like for
the last two years, if we're being honest.
But we got some more shuffling in the kicker department on Friday.
The Titans, now that they have moved Randy Bullock up to the active roster
to be the starting kicker, they needed to have a backup kicker on the practice squad,
and they have brought back a name that you may recognize.
It is kicker Ryan Santoso.
And Santoso spent some time with the Titans last season,
played in three games.
He was more of a kickoff specialist than anything else.
He was never expected to kick field goals or extra points.
The Titans just wanted his big leg, quote-unquote,
to put the ball in the end zone for touchbacks on the kickoff.
But he kicked off 17 times, and only nine of those went into the end zone.
So generally a failure for Santoso.
But it's a guy that the Titans are hoping they don't have to rely on.
While at the same time, being a guy who's already been in the building,
so it makes it a little bit easier to acclimate him.
Now, the other move that the Titans made, the corresponding move,
they had to open a roster spot on the practice squad. And to do so, they have waived offensive
tackle Christian DeLauro. Now, DeLauro started at left tackle for the Titans throughout the
preseason. I thought he had some decent moments, but ultimately he's not good enough to be on
the 53-man roster. I'm surprised, though, that they are letting him go from the practice squad.
I would expect the Titans to try to get DeLauro back on the practice squad
as the roster continues to shuffle throughout the season.
He'll be one of those names that I bet will return at a later date.
But that's the moves that the Titans have made on the practice squad,
just adding a kicker in Ryan Santoso,
and then, of course, cutting tackle Christian DeLauro.
The bigger news of the day is about the Titans' injury report,
the final injury report of the week before the game against the Seahawks.
Now, because the Seahawks are out on the West Coast,
they have not released their final injury report yet, so I don't really have anything to report for you guys on the West Coast, they have not released their final injury report yet.
So I don't really have anything to report for you guys on the Seattle front,
but we can go over the Titans injury list, and it is extensive.
So number one, we're just going to go down the list name by name.
Outside linebacker Bud Dupree with a knee injury,
probably recovering from the ACL that he tore last season.
He did not participate on Wednesday, was limited on Thursday,
and then limited on Friday.
He goes into the game with a questionable designation.
I do think that Bud Dupree will ultimately play in the game.
If he doesn't, well, that is a very poor reflection on the Titans coaching staff
and the Titans medical staff.
If Bud Dupree was not ready to play in a game after tearing his ACL and recovering
and the Titans put him out there in week one and he suffered a setback,
that means he was not ready to go.
And based on the way that he played in that game,
it would be logical to conclude that he was not ready to play in a full NFL game
and the amount of snaps that he got, he was basically out there for a majority of the game.
So that would be very concerning, but I do think that Bud Dupree will be able to go.
A.J. Brown on the injury report with a knee injury was limited on Wednesday
and full participant on Thursday and Friday.
So no worry about A.J. Brown.
Just a repeat of last season all over again where he's on the injury report all week,
but he always ends up playing in the game.
Now, here's one that I am a little bit concerned about.
Tight end Anthony Perkser with a knee injury
took a really hard hit in the first half last week,
kind of bent his knee up.
I'm glad it wasn't anything more serious,
but he was limited on Wednesday and Thursday,
and then he did not practice on Friday.
My read on that is they tried to get him out there in a limited capacity.
The knee did not respond very well, not practice on Friday. My read on that is they tried to get him out there in a limited capacity.
The knee did not respond very well, and they decided to just go ahead and let him rest on Friday. He will be questionable going into the game, but I'll say this. If the Titans don't have
Anthony Ferkser, that is a major concern. I talked yesterday about how the Seahawks defense can be
vulnerable in pass coverage over the middle of the field. Jordan Brooks and Bobby Wagner were targeted 14 times last week against the Colts.
They gave up 12 completions for 88 yards and a touchdown.
If the Titans don't have their primary tight end over the middle passing option,
that could be rough because Jeff Swaim and Michael Pruitt
are much more of the blocking tight end type than they are the receiving type.
Moving forward though, Harold Landry suffering from a groin injury.
He was limited on Wednesday, but then a full participant on Thursday and Friday.
So thank God the Titans' most talented and athletic edge rusher
is not going to be out of this game when we have to chase down Russell Wilson.
Moving down, David Long, who missed last week's game at linebacker,
suffering from a hamstring injury.
He was limited on Wednesday, did not participate on Thursday,
but then was a full participant on Friday.
He still is questionable, so remains to be seen
how he responds to a full day of practice on Friday.
But I have some optimism that David Long will be able to play in this game.
And remember, David Long has a very important role to this team.
Not only is the third inside linebacker on the depth chart,
but the Titans love bringing in David Long
and taking Rashawn Evans off the field on third downs.
Not only that, but that would allow Rashawn Evans
to go down to the defensive line
and maybe use his versatility to help the Titans rush the passer as well.
And if Bud Dupree is out,
the Titans would need a lot of Rashawn Evans rushing off the edge. So if David Long could play, that would be important. Now, the only player
that's been ruled out so far is Caleb Farley with a shoulder injury. He was a full participant on
Wednesday, but then did not participate on Thursday or Friday. And I think this is a major concern
because one thing I mentioned in my game preview is Caleb Farley is the only player in the Titans secondary with and I'm not saying he can do this well I'm just saying
he's the only person who checks the boxes he is the only person Caleb Farley who has the size
and the athleticism to even try to compete with DK Metcalf now I know that it would have been a
long shot for the Titans coaching staff to put Caleb Farley out there in the slot anyways based on how it's gone so far this season. But Elijah
Molden one-on-one in man coverage in the red zone against the six foot three physical specimen that
is DK Metcalf when Molden is like five foot ten five foot eleven it's a recipe for disaster. And
people are saying,
oh, well, you have Molden and Mann,
and then you just put a safety over top to help.
Well, Imani Hooker is the only guy I would trust to do that,
and he's out.
So, Elijah Molden and Bradley McDougald,
I don't think that's solving any problems here.
Kevin Byard and Elijah Molden,
I don't think that's solving any problems. DK Met Byard and Elijah Moulton, I don't think that's solving any problems.
DK Metcalf will smoke both
of those combinations.
You're going to do nothing. I think
playing a guy like Caleb Farley, who was
6'2", incredible speed
out there, would have been a great
matchup. You know what you're going to say? He's
a rookie. What if he fails? What if he struggles?
What if he gets beat? Well, Elijah Moulton's a rookie
and he's probably going to struggle
and get beat too. So
I don't see how the Titans secondary
is so talented that you can't throw
Caleb Farley out there.
I don't see how it's going to get demonstrably worse
by having Farley out there. But either
way, we're robbed of that opportunity
because Caleb Farley with the shoulder injury
is officially out for
this game. Next, another cornerback, Chris Jackson.
Hamstring injury, but he was a full participant all week.
He'll be able to play in the game, but I sure do hope he doesn't get reps over Elijah Molden.
Even though Elijah Molden struggled last week,
I would rather Elijah Molden cut his teeth and get those reps,
because there's upside that he's a good player,
than have Chris Jackson, who was literally the worst cornerback in the NFL last year,
take reps away from the talented rookie.
Next, another cornerback here, or my apologies,
Josh Reynolds at wide receiver.
Foot injury.
Did not play last week.
Full participant all week.
He will be able to go.
And I certainly hope the Titans use this opportunity
to have their three big physical wide receivers,
and A.J. Brown, Julio Jones, and Josh Reynolds out on the field and mimic some of the two tight end sets
that they were trying to run last week
with Swaim and Pruitt to very little success.
And then they can do what I was saying all season,
use big physical wide receivers
to mimic heavy tight end sets.
I think that would be advantageous,
but Josh Reynolds is a go.
Outside linebacker Derek Roberson,
groin injury but full participant all week.
He'll be able to go.
The Titans need that athleticism on the outside against Russell Wilson.
And then two concerning ones here, though.
Jayon Brown and Rashawn Evans, the starting linebackers,
both on the injury report.
Jayon Brown with a hamstring.
He was a full participant on Thursday, but then did not practice on Friday
and is officially questionable.
That is going to be a major loss for the Titans.
I mean, what if David Long and Jayon Brown can't go?
That is going to be a nightmare.
Now, Rashawn Evans has a groin injury, but he was a full participant all week,
so he'll be able to go out there.
But having only Rashawn Evans as your viable linebacker over the middle
is, like I said, a recipe for disaster for the Titans.
So that is your injury report. That is all
my analysis to go along with what
we see on the injury report.
This is a Friday night special.
