Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Jacksonville Jaguars BOUNCE BACK with Travis Hunter, Liam Coen & Trevor Lawrence Uncertain Future
Episode Date: June 24, 2025The Jacksonville Jaguars made some big changes this offseason with the additions of Travis Hunter and front office hires like Liam Coen at head coach and James Gladstone at general manager. These move...s will allow the team to capitalize on the talent they currently have on the roster. However, Trevor Lawrence remains and he will be the key to the Jaguars success as his career so far has been up and down, at best. Tony Wiggins from Locked On Jaguars joins to give his inside intel on the situation. Finally, despite feeling sick while doing it, Tyler does think the Jaguars bounce back record-wise in 2025 and compete for the AFC South title. It makes me sick to my stomach, but I think the Jacksonville Jaguars do have a bounce
back season.
I'll explain on today's edition of Locked On Titans.
You are Locked On Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast
Network, your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked On Titans podcast.
I am your host, Tyler Rowland, Titans fans.
It's division rival week, but now we
have to start our division rival recap series.
We're going to deep dive into the off season
of every single one of the Tennessee Titans division
rivals.
We'll start with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
We'll talk about the Houston Texans.
We'll hit the Indianapolis Colts at the end of the week.
We're gonna talk about all of the moves that these teams have made,
who they've gained, players that they've lost.
We're gonna talk about the biggest question for all of these teams.
We're gonna go inside enemy lines and have a crossover segment
with the host of the other locked on show.
Can't wait for that. Tony Wiggins will join the show today.
And I'll give you my prediction on what I think each of these teams does record wise.
Before we dive into the Jacksonville Jaguars, do want to thank you for making Locked on Titans your first listen each and every day.

If you aren't an everydayer, you need to be one.
Because again, it may be summer break for the Titans. but there is no summer break here on the Locked on
Titans podcast I'm gonna stay five days a week all year round always for free
and it's never gonna change so again make sure you get subscribed stay
subscribed it's your team every day here on the Locked on Titans podcast but with
that being said Jacksonville had a really good all season. In
my opinion, they made a lot of change, change that needed to happen. They made some bold moves. They
made some bold cuts as well. But overall, I think it sets up Jacksonville for a bounce back year.
I think after, you know, last season, the wheels completely fell off, which if you go back and look at the division crossover show from last year,
I told Tony Wiggins that the Jacksonville Jaguars would finish last.
Now they didn't finish last because the Tennessee Titans found a way to mess
things up even more.
But I think the general idea was I did not think Jacksonville was going to be
good last year and they were not good and
they made the requisite changes and it starts up top. So they fire Trent Balke as the general manager,
they fired Doug Peterson as the head coach, a couple years removed from a major comeback
playoff win and playoff performance or playoff appearance where they barely got past the Josh
Dobbs Tennessee Titans. That should have been an omen all along, I guess. But they bring in Liam Cohen. Liam Cohen is a guy
who a lot of Tennessee Titans fans know is the guy who made Will Levis look good in college.
Liam Cohen was the offensive coordinator at Kentucky in 2021 when Will Levis transferred
there. And that is the reason Will Levis got drafted
where he got drafted is because that 2021 Kentucky film
and all of the people run a similar style
to Sean McVay tree, which is where Liam Cohen came from.
They were like, oh, Will Levis in that system, he can do it.
You know, that was the idea.
So Liam Cohen, I think he went back to the Rams for a season, goes to be the
offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year, does a good job, but now he's the
head coach. Remember there was all that drama of Tampa Bay wanting him to sign a contract
saying he couldn't take more interviews and bub- but either way, I think it was a smart
move to move off of Doug Peterson. Liam Cohen is a guy who I think could be very similar
to Brian Callahan in great designs, He understands offense. He's a good play
caller, but is he the leader that you need him to be to get Jacksonville out
of that Jacksonville funk that they're in? Because it's not just making a
football team win games. There is a funk over the Jacksonville Jaguars as a
franchise and you got to break through that first. Is Liam Cohen really the guy to lead them through that?
I don't know.
We will see.
All right, they changed general managers.
They bring in James Gladstone,
who's Los Angeles Rams guy,
has a very young appearance
that a lot of people comment on all the time.
He does look super, super young,
but he is super, super young.
I think he's in his mid-30s.
So, Liam Cohen, James Gladstone,
those are the biggest moves that Jacksonville made
is changing their organization at the top.
But then they start to shape the roster.
The big move for Travis Hunter,
where they trade next year's first round pick,
move up, get Travis Hunter,
move from five to two with the Browns.
Huge pick for them.
We'll see how that works out,
but that's obviously a huge gain player-wise for them.
They have signed De'Ami Brown, who came from Washington.
Outside speed receiver, signed Patrick McCarrey
on the offensive line.
He was a guy who came out of Baltimore.
They draft Wyatt Milam, who I loved out of West Virginia.
I loved Wyatt Milam.
I think he's gonna be a player,
but not set to be a starter right now on the offensive line, but a good addition.
They signed Eric Murray to be a starting safety, Jordan Lewis to potentially be a starting cornerback, Emmanuel Agba, Dennis Gardak.
They've added some players there, but they did have some major losses.
They traded Christian Kirk in the division, weird, to the Houston Texans.
They cut Evan Ingram, who was picked up pretty quickly by the Denver Broncos.
That's a great match. We talk about fantasy football.
Evan Ingram on the Broncos, I love that fit.
They released Gabe Davis, probably the right thing.
Signing him made no sense.
They signed Gabe Davis with the idea that he would be their number two
outside receiver and he could play the physical X spot so Calvin Ridley could go back to play the
Z receiver. They made that bet with Gabe Davis based on the fact that they thought for sure that
Calvin Ridley was coming back and he would just come back for less money and cheat the Falcons out
of their second round pick so that they would only get a third round pick in the trade and
Calvin Ridley left. Hilarious. Hilarious.
And then they atone for the mistake.
They lose Andre Sisco, who's a really good safety.
They lose Mitch Morse, their starting center to retirement.
And some of the replacements, you know, I'm not a huge fan of.
I'll be honest with you. There are places on the Jaguars roster that I'm not super high on.
And we'll talk about those when
I give my prediction for what they're going to be and what I think their record is going to be at
the end. But overall the changes that they've made I think this was a good offseason for the
Jacksonville Jaguars and quite frankly I thought that they had a lot of talent on their roster
already. I thought Jacksonville had a talented of talent on their roster already.
I thought Jacksonville had a talented roster that didn't have the right direction,
and the culture and the organization wasn't right to get the most out of them.
But they have significant talent.
And the biggest question for Jacksonville is obvious.
What's Trevor Lawrence going to be?
It like, everyone, every year, it's,
this is the year that Trevor Lawrence finally steps up.
This is the year that Trevor Lawrence finally has what he needs.
This is the, like, and at some point,
we may need to accept that Trevor Lawrence is just a good player,
and he's never gonna become that great player.
He's never going to even be up to the Justin Herbert level.
You know, he's not getting there.
He's a third tier quarterback that's closer to Jared Goff than he is Joe Burrow.
At some point we might need to accept that.
Now, I would say though, that personally based on some of the moves that they made
and if Liam Cohen is a good coach, and even if he's not
a good coach, like Cliff Kingsbury wasn't a good head coach for the Arizona Cardinals, but he was
really good at doing offense and it led them to an 11-5 season, you know, because he was, and then
it caught up to him eventually and he got fired, now he's a really good offensive coordinator for
Jay Daniels in Washington, but like even if Liam Cohen is that good, Jacksonville could have a really, really good season.
And Trevor Lawrence doesn't need to be that elite quarterback. Number one overall pick,
one of the best prospects we've seen at number one that everybody always expects him to be.
Maybe doesn't even need to be that for Jacksonville to be decent because their roster
is in a pretty good shape. And again, I do think they bounce back this year how many wins they get
I'll talk about that at the end of the show but now let's get some behind enemy lines information
from my guy the OG Tony Wiggins from Locked On Jaguars. I do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought to you by Rougiet.

Tony, this is our division rival kind of recap week, getting an idea of what the Titans division rivals have done so far this all season,
now that we've reached that kind of summer break for all these NFL teams. I guess just starting off looking at the Jags all season blank canvas.
What are your big picture thoughts on what Jacksonville has done so far?
The main thing is that they stopped the roller coaster right you have been on a roller coaster
you've been scared to ride and you want to get off and the dude keeps you going around
you know the dude the long hair he's like no you gotta go again to ride and you want to get off and the dude keeps you going around. You don't have to do it the long as he's like, no, you got to go again.
No, when you told him to stop the roller coaster, you stopped it and we got off.
We all got off that crickety roller coaster and
that is when they decided that they were going to reboot this entire thing.
You know, it didn't start out like that.
They fired the coach Doug Peterson and kept Trent Bocke.
And I went ballistic because that is not what needed to happen.
You didn't need to have continuous justification of these draft picks.
They weren't all bad.
I just think you needed a fresh outlook.
Don't allow him to help pick the coach.
Move on, move past it, get a complete start all over.
We don't know if it's gonna work, but
we definitely know the way it was going wasn't gonna work.
Yeah, it's funny that you mentioned that because there are a lot of Titans fans out there
who don't like that the Titans have kind of done that
where, you know, you have Mike Rabel,
but you fire John Robinson, and then you got Karthon together,
and then you fire Mike Rabel,
then you got a new coach in and you fire Karthon,
and now you got a new GM with a coach,
and they just keep going and going and going.
So there are Titans fans who are gonna, you know,
empathize with that,
but now that they have this brand-new start, they bring in Liam Cohen, going and going and going. So, there are Titans fans who are
going to, you know, empathize
with that but now that they
have this brand new start, they
bring in Liam Cohen, they
bring in James Gladwell and
Gladstone. He got them stones
now. Gladstone. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
He looks like he's freaking 20
years old. That's all I know for
sure but I don't think that
they've had a bad off season either. I think the Jags have had a pretty good off season out of everything that they've done.
Is it that front office change with the coach and GM that was the best move?
Is there another move out there that you like that they've done so far maybe on the field?
Yeah, I like it.
There were several things that I liked.
I like the coach and the GM.
I like the hiring of EVP Tony Baccelli.
I'm not saying that because he's a friend or a former player who played and
loves the city and all of that.
I've had conversations with Tony over the years.
It's like he used to do the radio broadcast.
And I would always show up late because I don't like crowds.
So I come in 20 minutes before the game and go downstairs in the press box and
get me some grub and he would be there too.
And we had these little conversations off the record when he wasn't in that position.
I knew what he was going to do. I knew the second he took this team over, you're going to see four
offensive linemen in free agency and then another one drafted infused into that offensive line
because I don't treat the offensive line as, okay, I think we can pick players. Okay, I think we can develop players.
No, that's cool.
But when it's not working, I don't wanna be the dude that tries to find a jewel in
the fourth and the sixth round every year.
Man, you better put some priority resources toward protecting your quarterback.
Right. Jacksonville couldn't run the ball.
I know y'all are ops, but maybe y'all didn't notice this.
First and goal on the five, we weren't't guaranteed squat and I almost didn't say squat
I almost said something else that rhymes with it because my thing is bro is
That is a bad feeling first and goal from the five and you throw it two or three times and get nothing
That's because you can't move people. You got no sandbags in your pocket. You ain't got no hind parts. You ain't got no gusto. So they had to fix that. And
their EVP is a dude that knows that better than anybody.
Yeah, I think investing in the offensive line is the only way nowadays because the talent
is so limited. You know, it's just hard to find big guys who are good enough to deal
with the athleticism of the defensive line. But speaking of defensive lines, Jacksonville obviously has a good pass rush.
They add to that.
The secondary, I know there's been a lot of changes there.
What's your read on the defensive side of the ball of Jacksonville?
Have they improved enough?
And what are some of the additions you think that could help in that
improvement?
So they have this thing that they say, James Gladstone says he looks for
players that are intangibly rich. And when we say what that is, we ask him. He says, we just want players
that all they got to do is come here and be nothing more than themselves. So that means not
seeing a talented player and hoping that his personality fits. No, it means getting all of
that stuff together, getting football playing, Jesse's that love the game, that realized that
they just got to be on time and
realize it's a short time for them to do it.
And whatever their personality is, Travis Hunter's out there dancing on the field.
He's dancing, but you know what else he's doing?
He's showing up early and he's leaving late.
And you wanna punish Travis Hunter?
Tell him you gotta go home.
You've been here all day, man.
Get out of here.
He's been here 15 hours ago.
It's like telling the kid to come inside when he's outside in the summertime.
You're telling him to leave.
That's the kind of guy he is.
So to be nothing more than yourself,
they're not gonna ask you to do things that you don't do.
Whatever it is that you do that you don't do well,
they're gonna teach you how to do it.
And I think that is reflective also in the coaching staff.
When you talk to one coach,
it feels like you're talking to them all,
but it doesn't seem like it comes
from a place of talking points.
It comes from a place of familiarity. It comes from a place of familiarity.
It comes from a place of alignment.
It comes from either the tree of Kevin O'Connell or the tree of Sean McVeigh,
which Sean McVeigh is responsible for Kevin O'Connell's tree.
It's the language, it's the way they move about their business.
Tyler, it feels like guys like you and me, one.
It feels like dudes that's been writing and scribbling on these notes all their
lives, wanting to be a part of this game some type of way.
And those of us that realize that taking it as a career path, we won.
Because they got a whole full of room full of guys just like us over there that
have a proven track record.
They're all smart and they're doing more teaching.
The Jack Rows had a big problem under Doug Peterson.
They come out, the players and the coaches,
they get beaten and you hear them in the locker room
or at the press conference after the game
say something like this.
I don't know why we can't get it right.
We practice it all week, but then we get in the game,
it doesn't look like it.
That's cause you don't know how to do it.
That's why you're thinking about it, but it's not muscle memory,
because you haven't really been taught how to do it.
These things have to become second nature.
It's never always been about talent.
It has been about communication and learning.
And I think the football,
football if you watch Minnesota play, how rhythmic it is.
You know where that comes from?
That comes from getting answers pre-snap.
And it makes life easy.
And I think they can do the same thing for Trevor Lawrence
since they did it for Sam Donah.
You know what? I think that that's a generational thing.
I think that younger coaches now are just able to identify
and relate to the players.
They know what they want.
They're able to give them the coaching style that they want
just because it's more natural,
because they're more
similar than a coach who's maybe Doug Peterson's age who maybe fit better with 10 years ago the
type of player that might not be the only reason but I think that is somewhat of a reason. My last
question for you is this, what are your concerns right now where you know Jacksonville I think
they'll be an improved team this year and I'll talk about that here in my final segment
when I give you guys my predictions on what they'll be.
But just from your standing right now, seeing what they've done.
What are your concerns with Jacksonville right now?
Places where you think maybe you're worried about how good they are
and what kind of team do you see them being?
You don't have to give me a record prediction,
but do you think they kind of turn things around
and get back to being a playoff contender?
Yes, baddest things were at four and 13.
I think the Jaguars lost eight games by one score.
They were in a lot of games,
especially the games against good teams.
Sometimes they play a bad team and get smacked around
like the Bears or someone,
and then they come up against somebody else
and they're going toe to toe with them.
It's like you see that there was something there because they are professionals.
So if I have a bit of a concern, it's not physical, psychological.
You're used to losing. You get this new thing coming in and the new thing looks
good, sounds good. You're enthusiastic and you're happy.
Sometimes results don't happen immediately.
What happens if you get smacked in the face two out of the first three weeks?
Are you gonna now remember?
Are you gonna have all of that?
And here we go again.
Is that gonna take place?
Now, I think they have the coaches that'll keep that out.
But sometimes you and I've been in certain situations where you do all of
this hard work for things to get better.
You ever started going to the gym when you ain't been in a while and you work
your butt off and you're doing creatine and you're doing the shakes and you're eating
the little rabbit food and you're going in there every day, twice a day, you're doing
cardio, you're lifting, your body's all sore. Three weeks later, you get on a scale and
you lost one pound. You can't give up, man. Everything ain't meant to be instant new start. There's somebody like the Titans and the Texans. I would say the
coast, but ain't nobody think
about them. The Titans and the
Texans. They're enthusiastic
to slap you right back to where
you come from. Remember,
remind me, man, you're not
going to get a new start. You
got to get a new start. You
got to get a new start. You
got to get a new start. You
got to get a new start. You
got to get a new start. You
got to get a new start. You got to get a new start. You got to get a new start. You there's somebody like the Titans and the Texans, I would say the coach, but ain't nobody think about them. The Titans and the Texans, they're enthusiastic,
the slap you right back to where you come from
and remind you that you ain't no good.
If it happens early, what goes on?
And that is the thing.
There's still a lot of players here from a year ago.
That's the task I believe the coaches are gonna have is,
look, we want instant success, but we're more concerned about how we are and who we are long term,
whether we win or lost, it's the how and the why that's going to determine if
we're ever going to turn this thing around the way it's supposed to be.
You know, it's funny that you say that because I look at the Tennessee Titans
of last year who had similar vibes coming in, Will Levis, it's time for him
to step up. He's, you know, Callahan's new, he's going to get the best at it.
But, and then they lose a couple of it's time for him to step up. He's at, you know, Callahan's new. He's going to get the best out of, but,
and then they lose a couple of games early
in nightmarish fashion.
And then the whole thing just collapses.
You know, it starts to drop, doesn't it?
Man, they're giving up 350 special teams yards to the lions
and getting blasted and giving up 50 points.
Like the wheels fell off because,
and then this year they're all preaching about culture.
We need leadership. We need togetherness.
We need team and they're doing all these things.
I can tell you all fair that they're doing to try to foster that.
And they're like telling you like, yeah, last year the going got
tough early and we laid down because we had no leadership and we can't do that.
Again.
So identifying that and where Jacksonville is that that makes a ton of
sense because there are some similarities, even if it's not a perfect one to one.
But Tony, thank you so much for coming on giving your side of things getting some on the ground intel from
Jacksonville and we'll talk again before the season kicks off and make our real predictions
about how these teams do. Hey and if you think I ain't gonna give my opinion and you already know
I ain't picking y'all to beat us so that that's that's cool, man. But guess what? Love you, man.
You do a great job.
And I know when people hear us
going back and forth, they think
we don't like each other, man.
That's my dog, man.
That's why I do that.
If I don't argue at you,
I don't care about you.
So, Tyler, you keep doing that work, man.
Hey, listen, consistency is what
people need in this world.
And you give consistency that
we can all count on, locked on
Jaguars and locked on Titans
fans alike. But with that being said,
gonna move forward and give you my prediction on how Jacksonville does this season.

We talked about all the moves, the Jacksonville Jaguars have made all the
change that they've made.
We got inside information on all that change from Tony Wiggins had an
absolute blast during that conversation.
But now I want to cap things off with sort of my prediction of what I think the Jacksonville
Jaguars will do this year. Now, obviously I teased throughout the episode that I think the
Jacksonville Jaguars will bounce back, but I'll dive into exactly why I think that is. Before I
do want to thank you again for making the Locked on Titans podcast your first listen each and every
day. Now for your second listen, check out Locked on NFL Scouting.
Host Kyle Krabs, Joe Marino are going to make you the most informed NFL fan
possible this off season.
Locked on NFL Scouting is going to go over all of the signings that
happened during the summer, how they affect all the different teams.
Make sure that you check out Locked on NFL Scouting on YouTube or whatever
podcast platform that you check out Locked On NFL Scouting on YouTube or whatever podcast platform
that you listen to. But looking at Jacksonville, I think this season they win nine games to eight
games. I think they're eight and nine, they're nine and eight. Again, I'm not predicting that
they will make the playoffs, they will win the division quite yet. I'm sorting those things out.
It's still pretty early.
Let's see training camp first before I make my final official predictions of
what's going to happen in the division this year. There could be injuries and
everything you never know. But at the end of the day, I think that they are a
team that will be competitive. I think that they're a team that will be
fighting for the playoffs. I think they'll be interesting down the stretch
of the season. Again, I think eight and nine, nine and eight,
they're going to bounce back in a major way from the bad, bad season
that they had last year where everything was falling apart.
Again, I talked about Trevor Lawrence at the beginning of the show.
I don't think that Trevor Lawrence is the guy that people who love Trevor
Lawrence are waiting on him to be, but I don't think he has to be that for
Jacksonville to be this level of football team.
I just think that the roster is actually pretty decent, especially on defense.
I like their interior front with Josh Hines Allen and Travon Walker.
Those are both really, really good edge rushers.
Josh Hines Allen, obviously better, but Travon Walker, a very versatile, powerful player.
Eric Armstead, Mason Smith on the interior with Devon Hamilton
I think that's a pretty good trio of guys and they're gonna let Eric Armstead rush from the interior a little bit more this year
They added good depth and Dennis Gardek when he gets healthy and then Emmanuel Agba as well
He was a guy who we talked about the Titans signing a ton last offseason their linebacker group is not that bad
They're top three like we talked about
on yesterday's episode.
Foyasidah Luakon is a very good player.
Devin Lloyd has hit or miss, but he's not awful.
Chad Mama is good depth as well.
And then in the secondary is where you're gonna find
the real questions.
You know, will Caleb Ransall step up and be a good safety
because Eric Murray, who they signed out of Houston,
Darnell Savage, that's probably their worst group.
Andrew Winger, man, he's just been around forever.
He'll probably end up playing a ton for him.
But then you wonder about Travis Hunter,
and that takes you from the secondary, where he's probably
going to play some quarterback, to the offense where, look,
Brian Thomas Jr., whether you want to hear it or not, folks,
Brian Thomas Jr. is going to be a top 10 wide receiver
in the NFL.
He's disgusting.
He's nasty.
And now you have Travis Hunter, who
might be more of a full time wide receiver at the NFL level
if he is as dynamic as it seems like he might be.
Dyeeami Brown is just an average starter, in my opinion.
But as your third wide receiver, your outside speed
wide receiver to take the top off the defense,
that's pretty solid.
That's a solid group right there.
The offensive line is not terrible.
Anton Harrison is okay.
Patrick McCarrey is a, you know, baseline average starter.
Walker Little, I would say not too different from Dan Moore.
Like we talked about when we ranked the offense a couple of days ago, like I
think Walker Little and Dan Moore pretty close to each other.
Who's better?
Who's going to play better?
I think Dan Moore is better, but we'll see.
You know what I mean? There's no guarantees. It's really on that interior.
Ezra Cleveland at left guard, Robert Hainsey at center, Wyatt Milam again.
Can he step up and maybe take one of those spots?
I thought he was going to be a ready to play player right away.
Luke Fortner still there as depth for Jackson.
So I just think they have some okay
players on the O line. They have a top 10 dynamic wide receiver and could have two top 20 receivers.
If Travis Hunter is awesome right away, I think it might take them a little longer to be fully
refined at wide receiver, but he could be dynamic at least right away and score touchdowns and make
plays like he did in college. So they just have some playmakers.
They have some really good talent and important positions.
And if the coaching is even just decent,
Jacksonville is going to win games.
They're going to win games.
So I do think that they bounce back this year.
Again, it makes me sick to my stomach.
I hate to hear it.
I hate Jacksonville more probably
than I hate any of the other teams.
I hate the Colts because they've had the success and the rest of us
haven't, but Jacksonville is just like, you know, our ugly sibling and that
there are little ugly sister and you're just slap boxing each other in the back
seat from your car seats.
I just hate those guys.
It's funny because me and Tony like each other so much.
We're so friendly, but our teams and fan bases hate each other so much.
So we have fun with that.
You know what I mean?
But as you guys can tell, but at the end of the day, I got to, I got to keep it
honest, I got to keep it real.
And I look around the division and I think Jacksonville will have a little bit
of a bounce back season where they went some games and they're, they're competitive.
The question is, can the Titans match them and make those games interesting?
That'll be fun to watch.
But with that being said, that is gonna do it for me today folks.
I'll be back with you guys tomorrow.
We'll be talking about the Houston Texans.
But as always, I am your host Tyler Rowland and this was Locked on Titans. Thanks for watching guys!
