Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Jeremiyah Love CONFIRMED After Tennessee Titans Mike Borgonzi TIPS THE PICK, NOT SO FAST Titans Fans

Episode Date: March 31, 2026

The Tennessee Titans are just a few weeks out from making their pick at the top of the NFL Draft and on Monday Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi spoke about taking the "best player available." Love...struck Titans fans(pun intended) took that as a clear sign Jeremiyah Love would be the pick for the Titans, but the reality is that answer means nothing and everyone clinging to it has their mind in the wrong place. Especially after Robert Saleh spoke on Tuesday and called edge rushers "playmakers" and praised the Titans current running back room. This sets the Love vs. Edge back to square one. Both Borgonzi and Saleh also talked about competition on the offensive line at guard and center and entertained the idea of starting two rookies in those spots.   LOCKED ON TITANS EVERYDAY CLUB: https://lockedontitans.supercast.com/   Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitans   TicTacTitans Merchandise: https://dixons-dream.square.site/shop/tictactitans-gear/C3AAPNWXSXA6SBYG3USV2I7R?page=1&limit=30&sort_by=category_order&sort_order=asc   Follow Tyler on Twitter @TicTacTitans   Follow the show on Facebook @LockedOnTitansPod   Subscribe to the Locked On Titans YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/LockedOnTitans/videos   Everydayer ClubIf you never miss an episode, it’s time to make it official. Starting point is 00:00:00 Did Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi just tell us who the Titans are going to take in the first round? Some may think that, but not so fast, Titans fans. I'll explain on today's edition of Locked on Titans. You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day. Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast. I am your host Tyler Rowland Titans fans on today's show. We're going to talk about everything that Titans general manager Mike Borganzi had to say at NFL owner's meetings on Monday. A lot of people are taking his comments as a clear sign of who the Titans are going to take in the first round.
Starting point is 00:00:49 And I just don't think that that's the case. Also, Robert Salas spoke at the NFL owners meetings on Tuesday. And he kind of pointed me back in the direction that I've been going for quite some time. Before we get into everything that they had to say, I do want to thank you for making Locked-on Titans. Your first listen each and every day. Remember Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year-round. Always for free.
Starting point is 00:01:11 Make sure that you get subscribe, stay-subscribed. It's your team every day. Speaking of every day, shout-out to my everydayers out there. Tune in Monday through Friday. Couldn't do it without you guys. We're less than a month away from the NFL draft. We're into our Locked-on Titans NFL Draft preview series.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Now is the perfect time to get subscribed, stay-subscribe. There's a reason. This is the number one Tennessee Titans podcast in the world. Make sure you stay locked in with the Locked on Titans podcast. But with all that being said, again, Mike Borganzi, Titans General Manager, spoke at the NFL owners meetings in Arizona on Monday. He had a lot of interesting things to say, but there's one quote specifically about, you know, premium players,
Starting point is 00:01:50 premium positions, blue chip prospects, that conversation where people have been trying to get information about Jeremiah Love out of the Tennessee Titans General Manager for quite some time. time continued here and a lot of people are taking his comments to me that the Titans are taking Jeremiah Love and quite honestly I think a little bit of that as self-fulfilling prophecy a lot of you guys the majority of Titans fans at least in my experience it seems like want Jeremiah Love to be the pick so anything that happens you're going to take it as hey look here's more evidence that Jeremiah Love is going to be the pick but I honestly don't think
Starting point is 00:02:25 that Mike Borganzi's comments can be taken in that way and I think when we actually get into the comments and what he said, it's clear and it's obvious that he's just giving a non-answer in an answer. But again, a lot of people are using this as a weapon in their argument. Regardless, Jeremiah love people, people who want edge, people who are, you know, maybe off the wall with a sunny styles, Caleb Downs, things like that. Everybody is used in this quote as a weapon in their argument for whoever they like. And I think that perfectly proves that this quote can't be taken by anybody in any serious way. down to it. So here's what Mike Borganzi had to say again, a ton of local media and things like
Starting point is 00:03:04 that were reporting these comments. But Mike Borganzi said, yeah, I mean, some of these guys that have the same grade of premium positions, you know, quarterbacks tackles, I always come back to say for us where we're at right now, we want to take the best player available right now. Depends on your roster construction as well. But, you know, I would say where we're at, we're taking the best player available. And of course, anytime you hear that, Everyone jumps to Jeremiah Love. He's the best player. Everybody has him ranked the highest.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Burgundy even said, I mean, it depends. Everybody has different opinions on positional value. But yeah, we're taking the best football player. So when you hear best football player, everybody just thinks of whoever they think is the best football player. Like, oh, he's got to mean Jeremiah Love. Oh, he's got to mean Rubin Bain. They're, you know, running back, short arms.
Starting point is 00:03:56 Oh, he's got to mean David Bailey. He had 14 and a half sacks last year like that's the best player. So everybody just uses it how they want but the reality is he didn't say anything. We don't know who their best player available is. We don't know if that's Jeremiah Love, Ruben Bain, Sonny Stiles, David Bailey, R. Val Reese,
Starting point is 00:04:15 we don't know. We can guess, we can have our conversations, we can have our opinions, but at the end of the day, no matter what report you hear, who you trust, this and that we cannot truly know. who is at the top of Mike Borges' board. So he could say, yeah, we're going to take the best football player available
Starting point is 00:04:32 and then take Edge. And all the people who love Jeremiah Love are going to be like, how could you think that one of these edges are a better football player than Jeremiah Love? You know what I mean? But maybe they do. Maybe they do have Jeremiah Love at the top of their board. And they were prepping people for, hey, you think premium this, premium that, no, we're taking the best football player.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Now, I would be against this, but Sonny Stiles. He just had an elite season and then followed that with an elite combine. Again, I've laid out why I think Sunny Stiles would be a bad decision at number four. And I would not like that pick. But maybe Sonny Stiles is the best player on their board. And then they take him and all the people that wanted Jeremiah Love and have been fighting Jeremiah Love against Edge, right? That's been the conversation.
Starting point is 00:05:19 Do you want Edge? Do you want Jeremiah Love? Those are the two top prevailing thoughts. anything else, you know, if we're making the family feud board, Jeremiah loves the top answer, then it would be an edge rusher, depending on who you like Bain or Bailey, because most people think Reese is going to be off the board. It's kind of not, he's not going to make it through two and three and get to the titan, so you kind of let that go.
Starting point is 00:05:40 Maybe he does, but most likely not. We try to be as realistic as possible while acknowledging all of the possibilities here, but nonetheless, Sunny Stiles or Caleb Downs or Carnell Tate or something like that would be lower options. I think Tate would be next after Edge and then probably styles and downs in there. But the point is, we don't know. So I think it's funny that I see Jeremiah Love people saying, look, see, they're taking Jeremiah Love. We're trying to tell you best player available when he may not be their best player on their board.
Starting point is 00:06:10 Like, we don't know that for sure. And we learn every single year that while there are a lot of draft analysts that do a great job, you just can't know how individual people are going to feel and how they're going to feel people fit their scheme and everything like that. And then we also hear from Robert Sala. And Robert Sala on Tuesday
Starting point is 00:06:34 when he was talking at the NFL owner's meeting. He said, oh, you support a young quarterback with run game and defense. Run game and defense is the best support. So, run game, you could argue Jeremiah Love, but then he says defense,
Starting point is 00:06:52 stack the defensive line. That's the best way to have a great defense historically speaking. He even said, you know, the pass rushers can be game changers. Like, he went out of his way. I think it was Toron Davenport from ESPN. Asked a question about, you know,
Starting point is 00:07:06 supporting Cam Ward game changers on offense. And Robert Salo went out of his way to say, you know, defensive linemen can be game changers. He said he thinks that Jeffrey Simmons and John Franklin Myers are game changers. So he went out of his way to be like, hey, just because we don't draft a running back draft somebody on offense. This isn't a direct quote. This is me paraphrasing this part, you know.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Just because we don't take somebody on offense doesn't mean we're not getting a game changer. And to correlate that earlier to his comment about supporting a young quarterback run game and defense, he could be saying getting a defensive game changer does support our quarterback. And that's something that I've been talking about throughout is that having the best football team possible is going to make Cam Ward look his best. You know, and it's not like you can't use later, picks in the draft to add playmakers around Cam Ward, but the point is, again, you could look at Mike Borgonzi's comments, say, best player available, boy, that's Jeremiah Love.
Starting point is 00:08:05 But then you look at Robert Sala saying run game defense, defense, going out of his way in an offensive question to talk about defensive playmakers. And then Robert Sala also said, which I find very interesting, he was asked about the running back room and he said, I love our running back room. Tony Pollard dropped 100 yards on us with San Francisco last year. He's a dang good player. Said he likes the one-two punch the Titans have.
Starting point is 00:08:38 They both run with physicality. They have versatility in the running back room. He said, I'm a believer in our backfield. Now, that could be smokescreen talk as well. He could just be saying that because he doesn't want people to know either way. But I mean, there is a gap in my opinion between saying, hey, yeah, we like our running back room.
Starting point is 00:08:59 You know, maybe we could make some additions there, but we like what we got and going out of his way to praise the group in that way. Like between, you know, hating and glazing, there's a big gap where you could be and he decided to go all the way one way. So maybe that means something. Maybe it means nothing at all.
Starting point is 00:09:18 The point of all of this is, and Mike Borganzi told, told Tehran Davenport that he doesn't care about Ruben Bain's arm length and that he can play a wide nine defense event. So whether it's Bain's arms or Jeremiah Love at running back or still being interested in edge, like they said all the right things and that's what they should do. They can't tip their pick.
Starting point is 00:09:42 That's the funniest part about the, oh, he's telling us they want Jeremiah Love, the people who decided to take that quote and go that way with it. The funniest part about that is, do you think that Mike Borganzi sitting at pick number four would intentionally or unintentionally leak who they're going to pick this early and tip you off for what? For why?
Starting point is 00:10:03 Why would he do that? That's the funniest part about all of this. Is that the whole entire point of all of this is to not say anything by saying things. If we, oh, no, we don't care about Bain's arms. Oh, yeah, we're going to take the best player available. Oh, edges can be playmakers. They are intentionally going, here, here, here, here, here.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Trying to confuse you. It's like the cup game. You know where you put the ping pong ball under the solo cup and then you have the two other solo cups and you twist them and move them around and try to confuse people? That's what they're doing. They put the ball down and they're moving the cups around and the entire time the ball slid off the bottom of the table
Starting point is 00:10:41 before they ever started moving the cups around. There is no ball. They're just trying to confuse and answer every question so that you could look at any comment. that they make and say, oh, they're still taking edge. Oh, maybe they go a defensive playmaker that isn't edge. Oh, they could take Jeremiah Love. You don't know, and that's how they want it.
Starting point is 00:11:00 So acting like these comments tip us one way or the other is just not the case. It's just interesting to hear their answers, but if you put it all together, they're just saying good things about everything everywhere, which is what they should be doing because you cannot tip your hand this early. Or at all, for that matter.
Starting point is 00:11:18 And Mike Borganzi knows that. So don't expect to get real answers on what they're going to do moving forward. Now, that's about the draft because they did give us some, I think, honest answers when it comes to the interior offensive line. So we'll talk about that now. Starting point is 00:12:57 We talked about the Mike Borganzi, the Robert Sala comments coming out of the combine why they mean something but nothing at the same time and it's smoke green season at an all-time high so they're kind of leading us in all-time. different directions. But one thing I think we can't take a little bit of value out of here
Starting point is 00:13:14 is their comments on the offensive line. A lot of us, now, you know, maybe some people who don't want to look too hard into it this early in the year, they're not that worried about it. But you know what, us diehards out there, my everydayers out there. I know that we lose sleep about this. The offensive line. The interior offensive line.
Starting point is 00:13:35 The center and the guard spot where I thought going into year two 4KM ward, it would at minimum stay the same. At maximum be improved. I did not consider a path. You know, I'm like Dr. Strange in the multiverse going through all the different futures. I did not see the future where the Titans' offensive line was significantly worse.
Starting point is 00:13:56 And that's where we're at right now with Cordell Volson and Andrew Slotman, Austin Schlotman, slated to be starters. Okay, that's a lot of S's. but the Titans don't seem too worried about that, at least publicly. Because Mike Borgonzi said local media that, you know, he wants competition there. And he even acknowledged he would be willing to have rookie starters
Starting point is 00:14:24 at both right guard and center. I cannot believe it. I was wrong. There you go. People always say I never admit when I'm wrong. When reality, my everydayers who listen to the show, no, I admit I'm wrong all the time. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
Starting point is 00:14:39 That's fine. It's not the worst thing that's ever happened. Okay? This is hard. I can't predict everything. Who am I? No Shardamus. Give me a break. But anyway, I thought for certain that they would not risk starting a rookie in front of Cam Ward going into year two.
Starting point is 00:14:59 It was too big of a risk. You have to protect your quarterback. They took 55 sacks last year. Cam contributed. The O line got better, but now that O line's going to be worse. So you can't be like, oh, well, the O line was getting better. Well, now they're going to have two new starters who are probably going to be rookies. Or at minimum, bad veterans like Volson or Schlotman.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Schlotman's not, Shlot, I don't know. It's not bad, but is he a certified starter? No. Probably one of the worst starters in the league. And that is, disheartening would be the word that I would use. But regardless, I thought there was no chance that they would do that. and that clearly that is what they're doing. Now, was that the plan? I can't believe that that was the plan. I can't.
Starting point is 00:15:48 But that's what they have to deal with now. So, Borgonzi said, yeah, I'd do it. Now, is that a negotiating tactic for Kevin Zitler? You know, like, hey, we'll do it. You know, it's like pointing, it's like you're holding yourself hostage. I'll do it. I'll do it. I'll start a rookie guard, you know.
Starting point is 00:16:08 Don't do it, man. don't do it. But anyway, I'm just saying, would that actually work on Kevin Zitler? Is that a negotiation tactic to say, yeah, we'll start two rookies? I don't know. Maybe he was just telling the truth because that, the actions match the words in that regard. And then Sala said the same thing. We want competition there. He said, rookies play all over the league. Rookies start on all the, you know what I mean? And he's right, he's right, but just right next to each other in a position as important a center where you're supposed to slide. protections. They talked about
Starting point is 00:16:41 having somebody in front of Cam Ward to call those protections and stuff like that. They wanted a veteran in that spot to do that important job and help Cam Ward who's still a young quarterback with those types of things. Recognizing fronts, recognizing blitzes, stuff like that. And to do
Starting point is 00:16:57 that with a rookie and then have a rookie next to him against an unproven right or next to an unproven right tackle and an average to below average starting left tackle. Now you're just playing with fire, in my opinion, which is why I was surprised that they would do that. Maybe they did not think that they were going to do that,
Starting point is 00:17:16 and that's just the position that they're in right now. But again, that's a dangerous game to have a starting rookie guard. Because now, not only are you having rookies start, but how do you know that the rookies that you draft are even going to be ready for that? You can't know for certain. I always go back, the Titans drafted Dylan Raidens in the second round. They drafted NPF in the third round. Now, MPF did come in and start most of the year, but was he good? No.
Starting point is 00:17:44 And can the Titans afford for a rookie guard in the third round to play to the level that NPF did his rookie season, which wasn't an outright disaster like later in his career, but still also wasn't good and he got a ton of help. Can you ask for that next to J.C. Latham and then with a rookie center on the other side? And that rookie center, if they're taking guard in the third round, what are you going center guard, guard center, second and third round? Can you afford to use your picks like that? when this team needs wide receiver, needs edge, maybe a development offensive tackle, needs cornerback. Can you afford to do that?
Starting point is 00:18:20 How many picks do you have to get quality players? And then are you asking fourth, fifth, sixth rounders to come in and be day one starters? You can't know that for sure. And again, maybe it works, maybe it hits. But that is a roll the dice yazzi situation where you need every single die to roll and land on the number that you and to play that kind of gamble with Cam Ward's second year again is disheartening to me. So it could work, but it's just not likely to work and to bet Cam Ward's protection on an unlikely
Starting point is 00:18:52 situation like starting two rookies on the interior. Mike Borganzi, he better hit. Instead of Yotsie, I'm a Yachti on the Yomboorgonzi. You know what I mean? That would be, I'm not good enough it, but like a Yotsie box with Mike Borganzi's face and it says Borgonzi in the font, I don't have the ability to create stuff like that, but a lot of talented people like you guys out there
Starting point is 00:19:14 might be able to do it. But I'm just saying, they got to hit Borgonzie. And I just don't know. You know what I mean? I'm not out here betting on outliers and betting on elite draft classes out of nowhere where every picks a starter and the value works out perfect.
Starting point is 00:19:30 Like, I'd say it every time. Titans get nine players in a draft class. They'll be lucky if four of those guys turn into starters. be happy if three of those guys turn into real starters. Most likely you'll get two good players out of a nine-man draft class. But they just don't hit like that, you know? The expectations for fans and draft picks and everything is just way higher than what reality is. It's like a baseball player. Like general manager goes three for 10 and picks. It's not that bad, you know? Like in baseball it's really good, but I'm just saying, you know? But anyways,
Starting point is 00:20:06 smoke screen season take what you want use it in your arguments but just know it's all just smoke right now but with that being said again preview and wide receivers later on tonight show we did running backs on yesterday's episode
Starting point is 00:20:23 I talked about why it's Jeremiah Love or bust at the running back position for the Titans and tonight we got a lot to discuss with wide receivers so make sure that I see you there that's going to do it for today though that's going to do it for today's bonus edition. As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland, and this was Locked on Titans.
