Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Robert Saleh PROVEN RIGHT for Sitting DRAFT CLASS After Tennessee Titans Rookie Mini-Camp Failures

Episode Date: May 6, 2026

The Tennessee Titans caught some flack for holding their rookie draft class back during last weekend's rookie mini-camp and Robert Saleh in particular was criticized. After the news that all 58 of the... Titans rookie tryouts didn't make the 90-man roster, Saleh looks like he might have known what he was doing because the activities of the weekend would not have benefitted the draft picks in any way and could have actively harmed them. Saleh might just know what he is doing after all.   LOCKED ON TITANS EVERYDAY CLUB: https://lockedontitans.supercast.com/   Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel:  https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitans   TicTacTitans Merchandise: https://dixons-dream.square.site/shop...   Follow Tyler on Twitter @TicTacTitans   Follow the show on Facebook @LockedOnTitansPod   Subscribe to the Locked On Titans YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@LockedOnTitans   Everydayer ClubIf you never miss an episode, it’s time to make it official. Starting point is 00:00:01 Everybody was mad that Robert Sala didn't let the draft class participate in the Tennessee Titans rookie minicamp. But he was right. And I'll explain why on today's edition of Locked on Titans. You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast network, your team every day. Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast. I am your host Tyler Rul and Titans fans on today's show. to talk about how we got a little bit of proof that Robert Sala was right to hold out the Titans draft class
Starting point is 00:00:41 from Rookie Manny Camp. I'm going to explain to you why I think it is proof and also we'll talk about the undrafted free agents that actually did make the team for the Tennessee Titans so far. Do I want to start, of course, with this piece of information that I think proves Robert Sala right to hold the Titans rookie draft class out. Now, I already agreed with Robert Sala's explanation,
Starting point is 00:01:04 said he didn't want them to get hurt. They've been going through the pre-draft process. They've been flying to meetings and interviews and doing all this stuff. We want to get them up to shape, in shape, and make sure that they're in condition before we put them out on the football field. But this piece of information that came from Titans beat reporter
Starting point is 00:01:21 Terry McCormick, none. Zero. I'll do it in Spanish. Serro. Players from the Titans' rookie minicamp tryout made the actual 90-man roster. None. Terry McCormick reported,
Starting point is 00:01:38 oh for 58. They had 58 tryout players. Not a single one of them made it. Now, that doesn't mean that none of the undrafted free agents made it. Some of the undrafted free agents who participated already had a signed contract. But again, the 58 guys who were trying out, none of them made it. Not a single one.
Starting point is 00:02:00 What does that tell you? Well, to me, that tells me that tells me Robert Salah was right. Why would Robert Salah want to put the draft, think about Cornell tape. Just think about Cornell tape. Why would the Titans? Why would Robert Salah want to take the number four pick in the NFL draft who needs to be the number one wide receiver on this football team from day one?
Starting point is 00:02:26 Why would he want that guy doing conditioning drills, special teams drills, and competing against dudes who know that they're probably never, ever in their lives going to make an NFL roster. Number one, it's a waste of time. Number two, it's a health risk. Number three, it's an additional health risk because these dudes who are trying out are going to be going balls to the wall. They are going to give, as they should, as they should.
Starting point is 00:02:57 This is their chance. This is their audition. This is American Idol for them. They may never get noticed again. They've got to go back and be podcasters if they don't make the NFL like they want. That kind of guy, that kind of player who literally has their life on the line
Starting point is 00:03:16 may do something reckless, may do something overly aggressive. Are they going to be thinking of themselves, that's the number four pick in the draft? I can't, you know, I can't jeopardize his health by being too aggressive in this drill and this play and this scenario. and whatever it may be.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Seven on seven, this and that. I don't blame the tryout player for being a go-hard and being sweaty and doing everything they can to live their dream. But why would I put that guy on the field in a competitive environment with the number four pick in the draft? Now, the old school,
Starting point is 00:03:57 OG guys are going to be like, compete. I want to see them compete. I don't care where you come from. Compete. Let's not be stupid. So for me, and again, this may not be justification for you, but for me, none of those tryout players actually making the 90-man roster, not a single one of them.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Getting a chance on the 90, that is all the proof and all the truth that I need to know that Robert Solid was right to not put his freaking draft class out there. like, what are we doing? You know what I mean? So, again, is it medical proof that he prevented injury and blah, blah, blah, blah, no, not quite. But it just shows you, why would you put your top five pick out there with a bunch of dudes who are never going to make it in the NFL?
Starting point is 00:04:55 And we'll probably never even make a 90-man roster. And we'll be selling cars or insurance or doing podcasts like me by this time next week. Robert Sala was right. They held their rookie minicamp in a different way than what other teams would do. And I think it was smart for Robert Sala to not risk the health and safety of your draft class. Now, with that being said,
Starting point is 00:05:19 so that there's no confusion, the Titans undrafted free agents that they signed, not their tryout players, they did make the roster. And I'm going to tell you who the official 11 names are that the Titans signed. right now. Do want to let you know that today's episode is brought to you by Ruggiat. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it's an important reminder that whatever you're carrying right now, you don't have to go through it alone.
Starting point is 00:06:55 Life can feel overwhelming sometimes, whether it's stress, uncertainty, anxiety, or just trying to manage everything on your plate. It's easy to feel like you need to figure out everything by yourself. But therapy can be a place to get support, gain perspective, and talk things through with someone
Starting point is 00:07:11 who's there to listen and help. Better help connects you with licensed therapist that makes, and it makes it easier to get matched with someone who fit your needs and they have like a questionnaire at the start where you talk about what exactly you want out of your therapy experience and that helps match you to the right therapist.
Starting point is 00:07:30 And my favorite thing is, you know, if you don't like your first match, it's not the right fit. You can switch therapists at any time. And I think therapy, it's very important to have somebody that you feel comfortable with. And you don't have to be on this journey alone. Find support and someone with you in therapy.

Let's continue and cap off today's bonus edition of the Locked on Titans podcast. We talked about why I think Robert Sala was proven right with the tryouts not making the team. Now I want to talk about the undrafted free agency class. Now, we discussed this last week who actually made it.
Starting point is 00:08:31 But I had 12 people on that list. And one of the guys that I had on the list, big pop a pump, his son sadly was not an official undrafted free agent. He was a tryout, free agent. There was some confusion there. He was the 12th name I had on the list. We talked about Tommy Castiano's out of Florida State. who was another tryout player trying out at wide receiver, obviously, didn't make the team.
Starting point is 00:08:56 So there are 11, true, undrafted free agents who made the Tennessee Titans roster. They already had contracts signed before the tryout, the rookie minicamp, all that. Number one on that list, Tyron Montgomery. The wide receiver out of John Carroll, again, he caught 119 passes for 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns last year. Now he's 25 years old.
Starting point is 00:09:19 He's underdeveloped, average size. I think it's an uphill battle, even though he's an exciting name. Another guy that's an exciting name for me is Amel Wagner out of Notre Dame. Amil Wagner went to the high school in the city that I live in. That's pretty interesting. Amiel Wagner is literally from Dayton, Ohio. It's pretty cool. It's pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:09:44 So I'm hoping that he makes the team. I'm going to be standing him throughout the all season. just be ready. But all 12 games last year as a starter. He's one of like the Walter Payton Man of the Year award nominees in college football. They call it the Jason Winton collegiate player of the year. Finalist only allowed three sacks in his two years of starting. There is an opportunity for an offensive tackle to break through here
Starting point is 00:10:09 and take the Brendan Crenshaw Dixon development tackle spot. I would say the same for Rashid Miller. 6'7, 310 pounds out of Louisville. Played some guard. Also played right tackle. Only gave up one sack. I think he could be a pretty good option. Some other guys who I really like Shad Banks,
Starting point is 00:10:32 the linebacker out of University of Texas, San Antonio. He was first team, All-American Conference. Last year, 94 tackles, three interceptions, three fumble recoveries. He makes plays on the ball. athlete, he's physical. Shad Banks is a very interesting player who I think Robert Sala may want to develop. Hank Beattie, very interesting player. He's like a Kyle Phillips type of player, is what I would tell you. Out of Illinois, zero drops
Starting point is 00:10:58 last season. Do him and Cornell Tate have the best hands in college football? Now a guy that I really have my eye on and I think looking at the defensive backfield is a good place to look at undrafted free agents who might break through. Fitzgerald. The safety out of USC played 10 games last year, had 51 tackles, had a couple of sacks, five interceptions in 10 games, three pass breakups. This is a guy who makes ball, he may not be the biggest, may not be the best athlete, but he just has great instincts, makes plays on the ball. I think Bishop Fitzgerald will make this roster. That's one of my bold predictions for the undrafted free agents. Jaden Lucas out of Clemson, another cornerback who makes a ton of sense.
Starting point is 00:11:45 Latrell McCutcheon out of Houston. I think I said out of Clemson. Jaden Lucas is out of Clemson. LaTrell McCutcheon out of Houston. McCutcheon is a long, ball productive, outside cornerback with speed. I think LaTrell McCutcheon has a real chance to break through. And then Jalen McMurray out of Tennessee. He was more of a nickel type guy.
Starting point is 00:12:07 He plays the star position. but Jalen McMurray could be interesting. The Titans probably need some extra help at slot cornerback. Now, the final names here that I want to mention are both linebackers. You have Sean Brown out of NC State. You have Manny Powell out of Purdue. Again, special teams is where these guys are really going to make their hate. Mani Powell out of Purdue is a very productive player.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Played 12 games last year, 110 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, five sacks. Mani Powell is an interesting defensive weapon for the Tennessee Titans. So those are the 11 undrafted free agents that actually made the roster. But again, all 58 of the tryout players didn't make it. Robert Sala was right to not put his drafted rookies out there with those guys. It just never made sense. But with that being said, that's going to do it for today's bonus edition of Locked on Titans.
Starting point is 00:12:59 Going to be back later on tonight to break down where the Titans have improved the most. And then on tomorrow's full episode, I'm going to talk about where I think the Tennessee Titans have gotten worse this all season. So a lot of great content coming your way. I'm going to do my 53-man roster prediction, my initial one at the beginning of next week. So that's what we're doing there.
Starting point is 00:13:21 But with that being said, that's going to do it for today's bonus episode. I am your host, Tyler Rowland. And this was Locked on Titans.
