Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Rueben Bain GOES CRAZY in Showcase for Tennessee Titans FIRST ROUND Pick & Carnell Tate Disappoints

Episode Date: January 1, 2026

The Tennessee Titans got a showcase from some of the top prospects in the NFL Draft during the second round of the college football playoff including a dominant performance from Miami's Rueben Bain an...d a disappointing one from Ohio State's Carnell Tate. This should inform how we rank those players and Tyler gives his early "top pick" draft board. As the Titans take on the Jacksonville Jaguars to finish their season and the key for the Titans is to stay healthy. That is more important than a victory as they enter a critical offseason for the franchise. Finally, the Titans are currently slated to have the fourth pick in the NFL Draft and that should hold depending on results around the league, but the Titans could also use some help from the Baltimore Ravens to improve a Day 3 pick. Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel:https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitans TicTacTitans Merchandise: https://dixons-dream.square.site/shop/tictactitans-gear/C3AAPNWXSXA6SBYG3USV2I7R?page=1&limit=30&sort_by=category_order&sort_order=asc Follow Tyler on Twitter @TicTacTitans Follow the show on Facebook @LockedOnTitansPod Subscribe to the Locked On Titans YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/c/LockedOnTitans/videos Everydayer ClubIf you never miss an episode, it’s time to make it official. Starting point is 00:00:00 Ruben Bain just proved to the Tennessee Titans that he's absolutely worth their top pick in the draft, but he's not the only one. We're going to talk about my keys to victory, my players to watch, my predictions for this final game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but I want to talk about these draft showcases that we're seeing with the college football playoff
Starting point is 00:01:08 and how it impacts the Tennessee Titans number one draft pick. Before we get into it, I do want to thank you for making a locked-on Titans. Starting point is 00:01:45 Make sure that you're as up to date, as informed, as entertained as a Tennessee Titans fan could possibly be. Stay locked in with the Locked on Titans podcast. But with that being said, what a performance from Ruben Bain from the Miami Hurricanes against Ohio State on New Year's Eve, absolutely tremendous, a dominant performance,
Starting point is 00:02:06 had a sack, tackles for loss, was in the backfield, making plays against the run, all of that, and again, there are some people out there who want to tell you that Ruben Bain's arm length means that he can't play on the edge. He's got to be a D.T. He won't be a good player in the NFL,
Starting point is 00:02:23 and I simply do not buy it. The tape speaks for itself. Ruben Bain is an absolute beast and as I've been saying for months now I would love for Rubin Bain to be on the Tennessee Titans pairing him with Devandre Sweat and Jeffrey Simmons he can rush inside he can rush outside I've seen people compare him to Melvin Ingram
Starting point is 00:02:44 or Brandon Graham for example I think he compares favorably to a guy like Jared Verce from the Los Angeles Rams I think he's a big physical dominant forceful pop you in the mouth type defensive linemen and he has a bend for a guy I would be more worried about the arm length if he wasn't able to bend around the corner and he had to rely on the straight arm and not only that but he's got so many tools in the toolbox so many clubs in the bag he can win with the ghost rush he can win with power he can
Starting point is 00:03:12 win with the inside spin move he uses his hands well he understands leverage and he plays against the run he's physical he's dominant he's violent everything that you would want yes his arms are short. Does he have the huge explosive athletic ability? No, but his first step quickness is there off the line of scrimmage. And again, watch the tape. This dude dominates. Now, he did have a little bit of a lull between Ohio State and Notre Dame. Like, the tape isn't as dominant as we've seen from other number one edge rushers in draft classes. That's absolutely the case and true. But I mean, look at this guy. I would love to have Ruben Bain on the Tennessee Titans. It would make a ton of sense. And as I continue,
Starting point is 00:03:54 to say and will continue to pound the drum throughout draft season. I'm taking Ruben Bain over any of the wide receivers because I think the value is way better at wide receiver at the beginning of the second round. Like, if you had to choose, if you said, I have a first round pick, I have a second round pick. I need a wide receiver, I need an edge rusher. Where can I get the most value?
Starting point is 00:04:23 To me, the pairing, of a number one edge rusher like Rubin Bain and some others who we'll talk about here in a second. With a early second round wide receiver, that's where the value is. I think if you got a guy like Ruben Bain and a KC. Concepcion. If you got a guy like David Bailey and a Jeremy Bernard, a Chris Brazil, you know what I mean? Guys in that range, I think that would make a ton of sense. ton of sense. That makes more sense to me than like Jordan Tyson and Cassius Howe or Ramello Height or something like like I think now the value isn't as good at edge later in the
Starting point is 00:05:07 now I think it's a good edge class and the titan should take two edge rushers in this draft class but I think if you're looking at the combinations of the pairings you're going to get better value from edge round one wide receiver round two than the other way around now here's what I will say. There are eight players. Right now there are eight players. And I'm going to give them a nickname and have fun with this conversation as we head to the draft in April. But there are eight guys right now who I would be happy if the Titans left the first round with one of those players. Now there are different scenarios. There are a few guys where I wouldn't be okay taking them unless there was a trade back a couple of spots or some moves. But there are
Starting point is 00:05:50 eight players who I'm like, the Titans have to get one of the these eight players. And here's how I rank them. And let me know your players and your ranks in the comments or on social media. You can find me on any social media platform at Locked on Titans. But number one on my list is still Ravelle Reese.
Starting point is 00:06:07 And I know a lot of people, I had a comment that said, how could you have watched that game last night and still had Reese over Rubin Bain? Well, the answer is, Arvel Reese is being played out of position. He's being played at linebacker by Matt Patricia. He is going to be a full-time edge rusher with positional versatility at the NFL level.
Starting point is 00:06:28 I still believe that Arval Reese, 6'4, long, 230 pounds, explosive, Panther-like athleticism out there on the field. Like, Arvel Reese is like a Micah Parsons, like an Abdul-Carter type, who was played at off-ball linebacker, but will be a full-time edge. And I don't care that they just took Femiola-Dazio. this is a totally different level of prospect than Femiola Dejo and Reese has a totally different level of potential
Starting point is 00:06:56 than Femiola Dezio as well so like it's not even part of the conversation you know imagine if your team was like hey we just took Femiola Dejio we can't take Abdul Carter they're projects we can't take Michael Parsons
Starting point is 00:07:11 they're projects we can't take Jalen Walker he's a project like those are silly things to say So Arvel Reese is still my number one player in the draft period But Ruben Bain is my number two And if Arvel Reese went in the top three like to the Jets or to the Giants or something like that And the Titans got Ruben Bain I would be a static
Starting point is 00:07:35 I would be over the mood so Reese and then Bain Then my third player is Jordan Tyson Listen I know the injuries are a factor But he had an ACL in 2022 that hasn't made him a worse player all. He's still awesome even after an ACL three years ago, four years ago now. It's 2026. His second injury was a collarbone injury. That's a freak accident. That doesn't have anything to do with his ACL. His ACL didn't make his collarbone break or anything. That's silly. So it's totally unrelated and then he has a hamstring injury. Well, A.J. Brown has hamstring
Starting point is 00:08:12 injuries every year. Justin Jefferson's missed time with hamstring injuries. Jamar Chase's missed time with hamstring injuries. It's a hamstring injury. It's a hamstring. Every wide receiver is going to have a hamstring at some point in time. If his ACL turned directly into a knee issue the next year, then I would be worried. But these injuries are so different from each other, so separate. There is one wide receiver in the draft that has real wide receiver one potential. There is one wide receiver who can actually become a dominant number one wide receiver for the Titans out of this group that we're talking about. And it's Jordan Tyson.
Starting point is 00:08:46 He has the contested catch ability that's just as good as Carnell Tate. He's faster. He's a better route runner. He's more of a yards after catch threat. Which is what really separates great wide receivers in the NFL is what you can do with the ball in your hands. Not just going downfield and catching deep balls wide open because everyone's worried about Jeremiah Smith all year.
Starting point is 00:09:09 So Jordan Tyson, it goes Reese, Bain, and Tyson. That's my list right now for the top three prospects who I really, really want. Now, David Bailey would be next. David Bailey had a great game, at least the first three quarters that I watched before recording this. David Bailey is a nasty edge rusher out of Texas Tech. He is super explosive, super athletic, great pass rush moves, productive.
Starting point is 00:09:35 Like, he is the best pure pass rusher at the NFL level between Bain, Reese, and Bailey right now. The problem is, Bailey cannot play the run at all, period. Cannot play run defense. He's a one-down player. He's only going to be helpful on passing downs. Can you take Yonik and Gokwe in the top 10 of the NFL draft? Can you take Yonik and Gokwee number four overall in the NFL draft?
Starting point is 00:09:57 A guy who literally cannot play against the run is useless against the run. Can't even be out there on the field against the run. Doesn't even play. Just time to rush the pass or go out there. Can you take a guy like that over Ruben Bain? That's the conversation. But I still like David Bailey a lot. remember I like all of these players
Starting point is 00:10:17 I like all of these players it's just about how I rank them and I would have Reese Bain Tyson and then Bailey is my top four then I would go with Carnell Tate I think Carnell Tate's super overrated but in this draft class you know you might as well pick Corey Davis
Starting point is 00:10:34 top 10 because this is a terrible draft class but Carnell Tate is super overrated in my opinion does not have the ability to be a number one wide receiver he has survived off great talent around him at Ohio State. All he does is catch deep balls. He's not a good short or intermediate route runner.
Starting point is 00:10:52 He doesn't make tough catches over the middle and short and intermediate situations. Gives you nothing yards after catch. He literally is deep ball go on a... He is Alec Pierce to me. Would you take out... We're talking about signing Alec Pierce as a free agent. Would you take Alec Pierce number four overall in the draft?
Starting point is 00:11:09 Because that's who I believe that Carnell Tate is. He'd be a second round wide receiver if this was a good draft class. he is Alec Pierce That's who he is That's all he is So I don't know that I would feel comfortable Taking that top four And there's no way
Starting point is 00:11:22 That you can't get one of Reese Bain Tyson Bailey If you end up in the top five So it would be hard for me To have Tate be the pick If the Titans don't trade back And me be happy about that Now the next player on my list Is Jeremiah Love
Starting point is 00:11:36 Okay Jeremiah Love would be the next guy That I would be interested in At that point it's because the Titans traded down all the way If you can't get Reese, Bain, Tyson, Bailey, Tate, you probably traded down in a big way. And if the Titans trade down and pick up an extra first round pick and a bunch of extra draft capital with a big trade down, then you take Jeremiah Love, I'm not going to be mad about that if these other guys are gone. Now, after that I would go with Mackay Lemon, and then after that I would go with Caleb Downs.
Starting point is 00:12:05 And the thing with Downs is, I think Downs is a great player, but him and Kevin Winston do very similar things. They're box safeties who you want near the line of scrimmage. Neither of them are going to be guys who you really want playing center field, back deep, covering things up. So Winston and Downs being very, very similar, I just don't see how the Titans could afford to take Caleb Downs in this draft. Like they would have to trade down massively like 13, 14, 15 for me to really be on board with that. But if they come out with one of those eight players, Reese, Bain, Tyson, Bailey, Tate, Love, Downs, Lemon,
Starting point is 00:12:40 if they come out with one of those, I'll at least be happy. with the draft. But with that being said, Titans do have their final game of the season. It may be the least important thing for the team right now, but we still got to go over what needs to happen in Jacksonville. Starting point is 00:14:11 We talked about the draft showcases taking place in the college football playoff and how that affects my rankings of what the Titans should do with their top pick. Again, let me know your guys' thoughts on that down below. But now we do got to talk about this game with the Jacksonville Jaguars. And again, I pushed it to the second segment, guys, because we just need this game to get over with. I'm ready to talk coaching search. I'm ready to talk draft.
Starting point is 00:14:32 I'm ready to talk free agency. Like, I said it a couple weeks ago, and I feel it even more now. I'm done with this season. We know what we need to know from this season. Cam Ward good, Jeffrey Simmons dominant, need wide receiver, need edge, all that, so many things that we already know that this Jacksonville game isn't going to change. And I don't have a lot of faith
Starting point is 00:14:50 that the Titans are going to win this game in Jacksonville either. But my keys to victory for the Titans and this one are simple and it follows along that thought process. Stay healthy. That's the only key to victory I have in this game. I don't care if the Titans win. I don't care what happens. You know, Cam Ward could throw eight interceptions.
Starting point is 00:15:10 it's not going to change how I feel about Cam Ward. Just stay healthy. No long-term injury for Cam or Simmons or anyone on the offensive line, the young weapons, anything like that. Like Femmy's already hurt. Kevin Winston's already hurt. Now Gunner Helm is in a walking boot.
Starting point is 00:15:31 Probably not going to play in the game. Like, let's just get everybody healthy. Cedric Gray had a concussion, but he's probably going to play. We'll talk about him here in a second. one in the secondary banged up like I just want the Titans important players to stay healthy and get through this game. Just get done with this season. It's been, look, there are been moments that have been fun, but this has been the worst Tennessee Titans season in Tennessee
Starting point is 00:15:55 Titans history. It's been terrible. Okay, terrible. So we need to get this thing over with and what I don't want is I don't want any of this terrible, awful, no good season. season to affect next year. So no long-term injuries to anybody important is my only key to victory and the only thing that I care about. Just stay healthy. Nothing else matters. The players to watch in this game, again, Cam Ward, let's just see how he plays, see how he does. Again, stay healthy. The offensive tackles. If you really want to get into the nitty-gritty of what is going to give the Titans a chance to win this game if they can win against Jacksonville, it's going to be the offensive tackles
Starting point is 00:16:41 because if Cam Ward's under pressure the jagged secondary in their past defense is awesome and Jeff Halfley is going to have those or Anthony Campanelli now I get those two dudes mixed up because they're so tied together
Starting point is 00:16:53 Anthony Campanelli is going to have this past defense rock and it was a big problem for Cam Ward last time they played and if you add pressure from Trayvon Walker who didn't play in the last matchup and Josh Heinz Allen on the offensive tackles if those guys dominate the Titans' offensive tackles Cam Ward's going to have no chance whatsoever because in the back end of the defense
Starting point is 00:17:13 nobody's going to be getting open Van Jefferson not going to play on IR with a broken forearm so you're just going to have your fourth round rookies James Prochay Mason Kinsey is going to get big time snaps in this game I don't know if Xavier Restrepo is healthy enough to get called up and actually play remember he hurt his ankle in the last game that he played like
Starting point is 00:17:33 there's going to be literally nobody out there now Gunner Helm's going to be hurt so we're going to have what Gunner Helm has been the starting tight end for the last few weeks getting more snaps than Chicka Conquo which I talked about since he was drafted but that's going to be David Martin Robinson now so like yikes you know what I mean
Starting point is 00:17:52 there's going to be nobody to throw to nobody to get open and if Cam Ward is also under pressure because the offensive tackles are getting cooked what chance does he really have he does not have one now outside of Cam Ward and the offensive tackles dealing with that Tadier Spears. Tadier Spears always has a good game against Jacksonville. Get him going in the screen game. He had a bad game against the Saints.
Starting point is 00:18:15 And it's funny, I told you guys for weeks, the fronts of the defenses the Titans are facing or allowing them to have more success in the run game. Well, what did the Saints do? They went with five-man fronts. They put pressure on the gaps. They attacked the line of scrimmage downhill at the snap instead of waiting and sitting back. and that aggressive forward defense is what Jacksonville is going to do,
Starting point is 00:18:39 and they weren't able to run the ball as successful last week. And Tage Spears specifically, when he does not have any space to operate, he can get through one guy. But when you hem him up and he's got to just barrel through a group of guys to pick out some yards, he's not going to be able to do it. We saw the limitations of Atage Spears last week. He's not a physical enough runner to be your full-time running back. He's a scat-back.
Starting point is 00:19:01 He's a satellite back. You know, he's a Darren Sprouls. type of guy. You know, he is not a lead running back. He can't do that. We've learned that over the last two years. But in this matchup against Jacksonville, they always seem to get a mountain space. They always seem to let him have some space to operate. He always seems to have decent games against the Jags. So they're going to need Tajay Spears and when the Jaguar start bringing pressure and there's nobody open downfield. A lot of
Starting point is 00:19:28 dump offs. And Bo Hardigree, Titans, play caller and quarterback coach had an interesting quote on Thursday. He said, Cam Ward has show that he has the ability to be Superman, but sometimes I need him to be Clark Kent. And in that game last week, like we talked about, the bipolar performance from Cam Ward, he made some incredible Superman plays. But there were sometimes when he just needed to be Clark Kent.
Starting point is 00:19:53 So that's a very good analogy. And I like that from Bowhart-degree. And I think he's done a pretty good job of trying to help Cam Ward grow here in the back half of the season. And that's sage advice right there. But again, to do that, you've got to have somebody to dump it off to, and that's Tage Spears. So I think Tadier is going to have a big game this week, or at least be helpful. He's a player to watch this week.
Starting point is 00:20:12 On defense, just the whole secondary. I mean, the Jaxs have great wide receivers. Parker Washington has been awesome as of late. Brian Thomas Jr., still a very good player even in a disappointing year. Jacoby Myers has been excellent for them since the trade. And they're going to add Travis Hunter to that next year as a wide receiver. I really do think that the secondary is in trouble. It's not going to be good.
Starting point is 00:20:37 Like, the Saints only had Chris Olave, and they were able to get rolling. And now Chris Olivae's out for this game. Coming up, he had a serious health issue. I hope he's all right, you know. But let's see how Tyler Shuck does when he's throw into a group of weapons that's similar to what Cam Ward had to throw to last week.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Hmm? Hmm? Let's see. Let's see that. But anyways, the Titan secondary is in trouble. So the whole secondary is the player to watch on defense. And then Jeffrey Simmons. If Simmons outright dominates the game, dominates the line of scrimmage,
Starting point is 00:21:12 throws Trevor Lawrence on his back a million times, then the Titans are going to win. The Titans are going to win. That's just how that goes. But it's going to be tough. The Jags' offensive line is actually pretty good. They work well as a unit. I do want to mention Cedric Gray as well.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Cedric Gray going to be going for a record here for the Tennessee Titans. the record for tackles in a season. Now, there is some controversy, I guess, about whether that counts or not. So Cedric Gray needs, I think, 13 tackles. 13 tackles to set, or it's eight tackles. My mistake, eight tackles away from setting the franchise record
Starting point is 00:21:55 for total tackles in a season. However, worth noting, as Jim Wyatt from Tennessee Titans.com, pointed out. The coach's film, the coaching staff, had Keith Bullock with 180 tackles one season. So that's the unofficial record for the Tennessee Titans. But for the official record, again, Cedric Gray, eight tackles to get it. I hope he gets it. It'll be fun to watch. So he's a player to watch, not for winning the game or whatever, but I want to see him get the tackle record for the Tennessee Titans, which currently sits with Aziz Al Shire from 2023. And I do not like Aziz.
Starting point is 00:22:26 Didn't like Aziz when he was here. Don't like him on the Texans. don't think he's a good person, quite honestly. I think he's a bad guy. He's a dirty player. I did not like him on the team. I hope that Cedric Gray breaks that record and takes it from him because I'm not a fan of Aziz O'Shea. But with that being said,
Starting point is 00:22:43 from my predictions for this game, I do think that the Titans lose. I think it's like 23 to 16 is what I would say. I think Taj Spears is my beautiful dark, twisted fantasy player of the week. and my keeping at plus 100 for the gambling, the Titans are plus 12 and a half right now. I would take that.
Starting point is 00:23:03 That's too many points. The game's going to be closer than that, even though the Titans lost by 18 last time. It's going to be within 12.5 in my opinion. But with that being said, we do got to do one final tank watch, one final check-in on the Tennessee Titans draft status and where things are going to be.
Starting point is 00:23:23 So we'll dive into that. And hey, it's a new year. And just want to remind folks, How much I appreciate all you guys. Do want to let you know that today's episode is brought to you by FanDuel Sportsbook. Fridays already feel different during basketball season and Fandall is making them even better. We talked about my current top of the draft draft board, my rankings for right now of the top prospects I'm interested in. And we talk about the Tennessee Titans final game of the year against the Jacksonville.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Jaguars, just stay healthy. I don't care what happens in that one. But now with that in mind, do want to give one last update to the Tennessee Titans draft pick watch to the Tank Watch for the season. Before we get into it, thanks again for making Locked-on Titans your first listen each and every day and thank you for making the Locked-on Podcast Network,
Starting point is 00:25:32 the number one sports podcast network. But again, the Tennessee Titans currently sit at the fourth pick in the NFL draft. That's where they are set to pick right now. The Arizona Cardinals have actually passed the Tennessee Titans in strength of schedule. So the Titans are ahead of the Cardinals, even though they both have three wins. Now, look at what could happen this week.
Starting point is 00:25:58 The Raiders and the Giants, those are the two teams right now that are worse than the Tennessee Titans, but here is the issue. Again, strength of schedule. So because the New York Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders have an easier strength of schedule this year by win percentage of their opponents, they will pick ahead of the Titans.
Starting point is 00:26:25 So even if the Raiders beat the Chiefs and the Titans lose and they both have three wins, Titans are not going to pick above them. You know what I mean? There is no way that the Titans can leap the Raiders right now. The Raiders will pick ahead of the Titans. Now the Giants, on the other hand, the Giants have three wins.
Starting point is 00:26:45 In theory, in theory, they could win. it would vault them over the Tennessee Titans. That could potentially happen. Same thing with the Jets. The Jets have three wins. They could, in theory, win their game. And then it would put them over the Tennessee Titans.
Starting point is 00:27:05 So the Titans could jump all the way up to the number two pick in the draft. Here is the problem. The Giants play the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas probably going to roll them. The Raiders. Titans can't jump them. The Jets are at the Buffalo Bills. Jets are not winning that game.
Starting point is 00:27:25 Giants. Maybe Giants beat the Dallas Cowboys. I think that's the most likely, but the Jets aren't winning. The Raiders can't go behind the Titans. The Cardinals play at the Rams. They're probably going to lose that game. So that's good for the Titans. But again, the Titans are ahead of the Cardinals right now. So that's not really something that the Titans should be worrying about.
Starting point is 00:27:45 The Browns are at the Bengals. The Browns can absolutely win that game, and the Browns have four wins. the commanders have four wins so they're behind the Titans but if the Titans were to win obviously they're going to drop below those teams so it would help if those teams would just win
Starting point is 00:27:59 and then the Titans don't have to worry about that so the commanders are going to play the Eagles I doubt that the commanders are going to beat the Eagles like I just that's not in Philadelphia that's not going to happen and then again the Browns could beat the Bengals but
Starting point is 00:28:17 regardless I think that the Titans are basically in a situation where they're either going to pick number seven or they're going to pick number four. And I think they're going to stay at pick number four. I think, you know, as I said, the Raiders can't move. I don't think the Giants win against the Cowboys. I don't think that the Jets win against the Bills.
Starting point is 00:28:37 The Titans are already ahead of the Cardinals. So I do think the Titans end up picking fourth and let's be honest, that is not a bad spot to be in. It's not the number one pick, of course, but it's not a bad spot to be in. So also, final thing, Baltimore Ravens, you want the Ravens to make the playoffs because then the Titans fifth round pick they got from them in the Dremont Jones trade moves to a fourth. Dremont Jones has his two sacks, he's got two and a half, so check.
Starting point is 00:29:02 Now we need the Ravens to make the playoffs. And then the Titans' fifth round pick they got from Baltimore goes to a fourth. So you want to root for that this weekend as well, even though it doesn't feel good to root for the Baltimore Ravens. I admit that. Now, the last thing that I want to say is, Happy New Year It's a new year
Starting point is 00:29:20 And hopefully it's a better year For the Tennessee Titans But I just want to say Thank you guys all again I could not do this without you I'm so grateful for the support That I have for both my YouTube channels The Locked on Titans podcast
