On today's episode, we're going to talk about how the Tennessee Titans get an advantage
to get eyes on Shadur Sanders before the draft.
We'll talk about where the Tennessee Titans are at with wrapping up the general manager
hiring process and divisional round this weekend.
I'll give you my predictions for that to cap off the week.
But with that being said, do want to thank you for making the Locked on Titans podcast
your first listen each and every day.
Remember, Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content
all year round, always for free.
Make sure that you get subscribed, stay subscribed.
It's your team every day here on the Locked on Titans podcast.
Speaking of every day, shout out to my everydayers out there.
Tune in Monday through Friday.
Next week on Monday, our first show of the week,
unless the Titans hire a general manager over the weekend, of course,
will be our first mock draft Monday of the offseason.
So excited for that, no matter which way it goes.
Speaking of that, the Titans could drop that hiring news
at any moment over the weekend.
We'll talk about that on today's show,
but that's a great reason why you need to get subscribed, stay subscribed, and be in every day because it's going to be a wild off
season. And I'm going to have all the breaking news, all the best analysis for you guys Monday
through Friday and some bonus episodes as well. But with that being said, as I told you at the
beginning of the show, the Tennessee Titans are going to have all eyes on Shadur Sanders,
and now they're going to get the opportunity to get closer than ever
because college all-star games are right around the corner.
Two weeks from yesterday, Thursday, or two weeks today,
depending on when you're listening,
we have the East-West Shrine Bowl where Shadur Sanders is going to be playing in,
and the Tennessee Titans are going to have one of their assistant offensive coaches
as the quarterback coach to go with Shadur Sanders.
So they're going to get hands-on work with him.
They're going to be able to go through practice with him.
They're going to be able to get to know him.
And that assistant coach is going to be assistant wide receiver coach Peyton McCollum.
Now, Peyton McCollum, like I said, he's an assistant wide receiver coach
for the Tennessee Titans, but he does have experience.
He's been coaching for 10 years in the pros and college.
He has experience with quarterbacks,
so he's going to be the quarterback coach
for the West team at the East-West Shrine Bowl.
He actually was a wide receiver in college at Catawba College.
He graduated cum laude in business and economics as well,
so clearly an intelligent guy,
but it's great for the Tennessee Titans
to be able to have one of their assistant coaches,
even an assistant wide receiver coach, you know, not one of even the top positional coaches,
but to have somebody on their staff who they can get live intel from.
Guys, it's not just about the arm, the accuracy, going through the plays.
How does a guy interact with his teammates?
How does he interact with his coaches?
How does he take coaching when you tell him to do this a little bit different?
Do that a little bit different?
There's so much information that can be gleaned from hands-on contact with the player.
And I think getting this opportunity to have somebody within the coaching staff
be around them on a day-to-day basis during practice and then into the game,
any little crevice of information, any little piece of
information the Tennessee Titans can get on these two quarterbacks, they absolutely have to do it.
No stone left unturned. So I love this. You look at the Senior Bowl. Obviously, the Senior Bowl is
the more popular of the college all-star games. The Senior Bowl is actually going to take place
just a couple of days after the Shrine Bowl. The Shrine Bowl is two weeks from right now on Thursday night,
and then the Senior Bowl will take place a couple days later,
I believe on Saturday.
So those will happen the same weekend,
but the Titans will have some coaching at the Senior Bowl as well.
Perry Carter, one of the Titans' defensive assistant coaches,
is actually going to be a special teams coach
for one of the sides at the Senior Bowl,
so the Titans will get some good influence there and some good eyes there.
But I would imagine that Brian Callahan and whoever the Titans hire as general manager
are going to be at the Senior Bowl as well.
They're just not going to be the ones coaching the players directly from the coaching staffs
of the Senior Bowl.
But still great to have a member of the Tennessee Titans coaching staff on both coaching squads
for both the big time college college All-Star games.
So you love to see that.
That's great information for the Titans.
Excited about that.
But I do want to mention this other thing,
since we are talking about Shadur Sanders here in the Titans,
getting some prime time, we'll call it, with Shadur Sanders,
with pun intended.
But earlier in the week, we talked about the potential
to make a trade with the Dallas Cowboys
if they hire Deion Sanders as their head coach
because he has said publicly that he wants to coach his sons.
Well, a report came out from Adam Schefter.
He did it on television on Get Up on Thursday morning on ESPN.
But basically, I'm paraphrasing here.
He said that Deion Sanders is willing to take the Cowboys job
even if it means that he's coaching Dak Prescott
and he's not coaching his son.
And if you listen to my episode talking about this story earlier this week,
my everydayers will remember,
I mentioned that it would be nearly impossible
and obviously illogical for the Dallas Cowboys
to hire Deion Sanders
and try to trade for Shadur Sanders and trade away Dak Prescott.
No matter if they traded Dak Prescott or not,
they would have to eat $100 million of their salary cap space this season
to do that.
It's just not possible.
If Deion Sanders is going to coach the Dallas Cowboys,
and that very well may happen,
having his son be the quarterback and drafting him
and trading up to get him, whatever it takes,
whether it's with the Titans or not,
that's just not a logical way to go about this.
So we got the report from Adam Schefter
that Deion Sanders is considering the Cowboys head coaching position,
whether he's able to make a trade up for his son or not.
So that makes sense too.
Now, the skeptic would say there
that the Cowboys are just negotiating,
that they still intend to trade up for Shadur,
but they don't want to play their hand too early
and make it too easy on the Titans
to put them over the barrel.
But I mean, it's a little too late for that,
quite honestly.
If you're serious about trading up for Shadur Sanders because
you hired Deion Sanders as your head coach you've lost all leverage anyway because it was a
requirement of his so you could say whatever you want in the public but if you know that he's
already told you I want my son and then they're serious about calling to do it like you got to
put two and two together there if you're the Titans and get as much as you possibly can and use that leverage and wield it ultimately to to fleece the Dallas
Cowboys when they're in a position of desperation that I mean that's what you got to do you got to
be cunning you got to be cutthroat and the Dallas Cowboys have done it before in their history with
the Herschel Walker trade so I'm not going to feel any remorse about that, but you know, they could say that all they want. I still think if that's a real
possibility and the Titans are interested in the Cowboys are interested, the Titans are in such
a position of power, but the reality is of course, again, that Dak Prescott's financial situation
and it's no trade clause as well. It's not a realistic possibility for the Cowboys to play that game.
So I don't think that's truly on the table for them
and that's something to consider going forward with the Titans
and how they can approach that situation.
But whoever is going to make that move
is going to be the Titans' new general manager,
and I'm going to update that situation right now.

Titans fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
We talked about the Tennessee Titans coaching representation at the college all-star games
and an immediate update on the Deion Sanders situation as it pertains at least to the Tennessee
Titans future.
But now I want to talk about something that's obviously much more impactful to the Tennessee
Titans future in the immediate, and it's their hire of general manager.
We're getting towards the end of the process here.
We've been covering this for quite some time now,
the candidates, the interviews, the ups and downs,
the pros and cons, all of that,
but we're getting to a point where a decision has to be made.
We have to have some finality,
and I think we're going to be getting that decision pretty quickly,
quite honestly, but we have gotten to a place
where the Tennessee Titans are wrapping up their second round
of general manager interviews, their finalist interviews.
Again, their finalists were John Eric Sullivan from the Green Bay Packers, Mike Borganti
from the Kansas City Chiefs, Ed Dodds from the Indianapolis Colts, Ian Cunningham from
the Chicago Bears, and John Spitek from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
So those were the finalists for the Tennessee Titans.
They've conducted the interviews now, virtual on the first one,
in person on the second one with Amy Adams-Strunk included
in the interview on the second one.
I ranked these candidates.
I like John Eric Sullivan from Green Bay,
and Mike Borgonzi is kind of my top two options for the Titans.
John Spytek does make a lot of sense.
Ian Cunningham and Ed Dodds.
I'm not quite as certain about, I guess, I will say.
But either way, we're going to get this decision very, very soon.
The Titans will be done over the weekend.
Now, my prediction, I guess, for
when we will hear about this is Monday or Tuesday at the latest. That's when I think the Tennessee
Titans will ultimately make their decision is Monday or Tuesday at the latest. And I think for
a couple of different reasons. Number one, this isn't always true. And I have an immediate example
for you to prove it that, you, that nothing is 100% binding.
But the NFL typically doesn't like teams to have outside news drop
during the beginning of playoff weekend.
The NFL wants the attention on the football games and on the players
and on the storylines at hand out on the field.
They don't really like hiring news and things like that
to dominate
the games themselves. The NFL likes to make sure that they have the news cycle taken over at all
times. So if you can hold on to some information until after the weekend of games, let's let the
entire nation focus on all of the divisional football matchups. I think that this weekend
of football, and I'm going to talk some about these games coming up here at
the end of the show, just for fun. At the end of the day, it's the end of the week. We'll talk
about these games coming up, but you want everybody focused on those on Saturday and Sunday. So hold
the information, please, until the weekend is over. Now, again, I have an example here, the Los
Angeles Rams against Philadelphia Eagles game. We got the Deion Sanders news during that game.
But I think it's a little different because it was late on a Monday night.
So that kind of feeds the news cycle for tomorrow morning on Tuesday.
It's a big story there.
And the Rams-Vikings game, or it was Rams-Vikings.
Rams and Eagles play this weekend.
But Rams-Vikings game wasn't very entertaining at the end of the day.
So the NFL was like, man, this game is a dud. Go ahead and release the house.
You know, Deion Sanders, Dallas Cowboys. That's a big one. Boom. So I think there were some factors in play with that example. I think generally speaking for a divisional weekend and the four
games we're about to see, the NFL doesn't want anything to cut their legs out from under them
and just let the focus be there. But I do think on Monday, with a couple of different things happening,
the national championship happens on Monday,
and then there is a presidential inauguration on Monday.
So with both those things happening,
the Tennessee Titans can release that GM information on Monday,
and it'll kind of get swallowed up in the news cycle,
and they don't have to take any more public criticism.
You know, kind of just out of sight, out of mind.
We don't have time to talk about the Tennessee Titans
hiring a general manager that the general public has no idea about.
So whatever.
You know what I mean?
I think that's where the Titans are at.
So my prediction here is we do not get this news over the weekend.
I think we get it on Monday or Tuesday.
But as I've been saying for quite some time now,
the Titans need to make this decision quickly
because whether it's the quarterback decision,
roster management with Jeffrey Simmons and Harold Landry
and some of the other decisions the Titans have to make,
which after we kind of get through this general manager situation,
I look at the all season and a couple of different stages here.
So staff changes is usually right after the season ends.
Are we firing the coach?
Are we firing a general manager?
Then we got to hire them.
Are we making any changes to the staff?
I'm still hoping that we see a special teams change for the Titans on the coaching staff.
Is anything like that going to happen?
We're going to handle that right now.
Then after that, you kind of get to the roster management portion
with who are we going to cut?
Who are we going to trade?
Whose contract needs to be restructured?
All of those different things.
I always say you can't go out and do things
until you have your house in order.
You got to keep your house clean before you're able to go out into the world.
You know what I mean?
Take care of what's in front of you.
So roster management, and then you get into the acquisition period.
Free agency comes next, and that's when you want to add players there,
and then you get into the draft, and after that, you're stacking your cards.
After the draft, it's like all your cards have been dealt to you,
and you're kind of putting them in order and trying to decide
how you want to play your game regardless of whatever the game is.
That's kind of how the process goes for me.
So that's how I try to stack my content as well.
I don't get too heavy into the draft when we have free agency ahead of us.
Now, with the quarterback decision ahead, we're definitely going to do that.
But either way, the reason why I'm getting ahead of myself with the quarterback
discussion and the draft discussions is because the Titans have the number one pick. It has become
far more important than in previous off seasons. And that is why the Tennessee Titans need to make
this pick as soon as possible because of how critical their decisions this off season are.
The Titans have the ability this off season to set themselves up for the next five to seven years to be a winner. All right, they hit their picks and they make smart decisions financially with the contracts that they have on the board and who they bring in a free agency. If they hire the right general manager here who can hire the right coach and Brian Callahan isn't that guy of Chad Brinker was the right decision, the Titans can put this thing back on track.
Now, as for who is going to be the hire again,
John Eric Sullivan from the Green Bay Packers,
Mike Borgonzi from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Those are my top two options for the Titans. And I can give you this news.
I don't know if it's going to be good or bad,
but Green Bay Packers general manager, Brian Gutekunst,
said, quote, he will be missed when talking about John Eric Sullivan
at a press conference on Thursday for the Packers,
which indicates, if you read between the lines here,
now he could just be saying, generally speaking,
if he were to get hired, he will be missed.
But I think most people are looking at that and saying,
oh, so he did get hired.
He is getting a job.
Okay, and there are three general manager jobs open right now. The New York jets, the Las Vegas
Raiders, and then the Tennessee Titans. Obviously his connection to Chad Brinker, 13 years working
together, both of them as green Bay people. I wouldn't mind being green Bay South. I think
there are worse things to be for the Tennessee Titans, but either way, if you get John Eric
Sullivan in here, that would be great. But the
reality is he interviewed for the Raiders and the Jets and Ben Johnson is heavily reported to be
going to the Las Vegas Raiders. There are some that think that that deal is actually already
done. They're just waiting for Ben Johnson to finish his season with the Detroit Lions and then
they'll make that official. And that's why they fired Tom Telesco because Ben Johnson said,
I want to hire my own general manager.
I want to bring in my own general manager.
So even though Tom Telesco drafted Brock Bowers and drafted Jackson Powers,
uh,
Johnson,
he got fired after one season because Ben Johnson's going to bring his own
guy.
And John Eric Sullivan is another NFC North player.
That could be somebody who may maybe Ben Johnson would want to
come with it. So while a lot of Titans fans were looking at the, he'll be missed comment as, oh,
John Eric Sullivan's getting hired by the Titans. Well, I mean, it could mean he got hired, but just
by somebody else. So I don't know if that's good or bad news, but it's definitely something to watch.
Mike Borgonzi interviewed with the
Jets, so he could
always end up there as well. There's competition
out here, and that's another reason
why I think the Tennessee Titans need to
get on with it.
Because you don't want to hang around and let one of these
other teams come in with a better offer
or show more interest or something
like that and take the candidate that you want
out from under you, even though you got a head start on the process.
So all things to think about, but I think we get this decision
early, early next week.
Again, I think Monday morning we'll probably have something,
and if not Monday morning, I think Tuesday morning at the latest.
But I'll be here to break it all down with you guys.
Now let's look ahead at the football this weekend
and the best weekend of football

We talked about the Titans working with Shadur Sanders at the Shrine Bowl.
We talked about the, I wouldn't say final update because the final update is the hiring,
but the last, you know, search update
on the general manager position for the Tennessee Titans.
Now I want to talk about these games this weekend.

So with that being said, I do want to look at these games this weekend.
You know, I figured it would be fun to take a look.
We're at the end of the week.
Best weekend of football ahead.
The top eight teams in the NFL.
I feel like it's a good time to take a look.
And the first game of the weekend is the Houston Texans.
Boo.
430 Saturday p.m.
They're eight and a halfpoint underdogs on the road
against the Kansas City Chiefs.
I got the Chiefs winning this one 20-16.
I think this game is going to be closer than people think,
and I think there's a critical advantage for the Houston Texans,
and that's their defensive line,
particularly their defensive ends against Kansas City's offensive tackles.
Juwan Taylor is up and down, but he's a little, you know,
he's an okay player. He's a good player, but he can be up and down, but he's a little, you know, he's an okay player.
He's a good player, but he can be up and down.
The left tackle position for Kansas City,
are they going to continue to try to move Joe Tooney out there
and add somebody on the interior?
Are they going to roll with Wanya Morris?
No.
Are they going to roll with Kingsley Suamati, the rookie?
Are they finally going to put DJ Humphreys in there,
the veteran who they signed in free agency late in the season
who's yet to play for them?
What are they really going to do at that left tackle spot?
Because the Texans have Will Anderson, and the Texans have Daniil Hunter,
and the Texans have Danico Autry.
And I just think that if there's one real thing that's plagued Kansas
City this year, it's the play of their offensive tackles, which has put a lot of pressure on Patrick
Mahomes, which has led to more turnovers for Patrick Mahomes. And turnovers are what can
ultimately break the game in Houston's favor. But it all starts with that pass rush and that
edge pressure. And I think that's an area where Houston has a real advantage over Kansas City, and that might be a place where they're able to manufacture an upset. But ultimately, I think that's an area where Houston has a real advantage over Kansas City
and that might be a place where they're able to manufacture an upset.
But ultimately, I think Kansas City gets the job done, 20-16 Chiefs,
but I do like Houston plus 8.5, and if you want to put them in a teaser
with another team, I think that would be wonderful, quite honestly,
and I'll get to the other side of that.
But the next game at 8 p.m. on Saturday night
is the Washington Commanders.
They're eight-and-a-half-point underdogs on the road
against the Detroit Lions.
I think this is going to be an entertaining game.
I know that Detroit is considered a lot better team
than the Washington Commanders,
but I think there are a few key factors here
that will keep Washington in the
game. I have Detroit winning 31 to 23, but Jaden Daniels is the key factor here. Of course,
Detroit has actually struggled against mobile quarterbacks this year. They've given up the
fourth most rushing yards to the quarterback position. Not only that, but a guy like Josh
Allen and Kyler Murray and Anthony Richardson,
who are real, they haven't really played a schedule of really good mobile quarterbacks.
Detroit really hasn't the three most mobile quarterbacks they've faced are the three I just
mentioned. And they gave up 45 rushing yards to Kyler Murray. And they gave up, I think it was
like 40 or 50 rushing yards to Josh Allen and two rushing touchdowns. They gave up 60 rushing yards to Anthony Richardson. So I think Detroit's defense is susceptible to mobile quarterbacks. And if
Jaden Daniels goes out there and pulls like a Kaepernick against the Packers in 2012, where he
runs for a hundred yards and is just constantly gashing them with his legs. I think maybe even
like 80, 90 yards on the ground, Jaden Daniels could make this one very, very close in Detroit
and playing inside in the dome.
I think it just goes towards his athleticism.
So I think that Washington finds a way to keep this within a score.
I think Detroit wins.
I could see like a backdoor cover at the end of the game
where Daniels gets a late touchdown to make it what it is.
But 31-23, not as confident in the plus 8.5 on that one like I am with Houston,
but definitely would have to lean towards Washington.
I think we'll get some close games here.
The one game that I don't think will be close,
and it's interesting because if I asked all of you listening right now
to rank the games, which is something I've been doing this week on Locked on NFL,
but rank the games in terms of which underdog is most likely to get an upset.
Well, the Buffalo Bills are underdogs at home,
so I think it's pretty obvious they'd be number one,
but I think most people would put the Rams plus six and a half
as the second best underdog that could possibly win their game.
But I'll be honest with you.
The 3 p.m. Sunday game, I think is going to be a
blowout. I think Philadelphia handles Los Angeles. It's a strength on strength matchup. And I think
Philly's strengths are way better. So the Los Angeles Rams defensive line led by rookie Jared
Verse with Kobe Turner and from Florida State, Braden Fisk.
They have Byron Young as well.
They blitz a ton with Chris Shula as their defensive coordinator, who's an up-and-coming candidate and will be a head coach
in the next couple of years.
But I do believe he's a descendant of Don Shula.
I think there's some relation there.
I could be crazy.
But the Rams' defensive line is great, okay?
And the Rams' wide receivers, Puka Nakua
and Cooper cup, even to Marcus Robinson in there to, to at well in there, like, you know, Jordan
Whittingham, like they have some players in there along with Tyler Higby at tight end position.
They have some playmakers on offense. That's a strength for them. Well, Philadelphia's offensive
line is maybe the best in the league, probably second best at most. All right? And that can negate the defensive line of the Rams,
especially a young defensive line.
And then the wide receivers, Philadelphia's cornerback trio
has been absolutely ridiculous this year with Darius Slay,
Cooper Dejean, the rookie in the slot, and Quinion Mitchell
on the outside, the rookie from Toledo as well.
So that can negate that advantage.
And then what ultimately pushes it from, you know, the Eagles win to,
I think it's going to be excessive, is the Eagles run game.
The Rams have been a bottom 11 run defense in the NFL this year,
and the Eagles obviously can run the ball.
I think I said Rams run game, but I mean Eagles.
Saquon Barkley is going to have a big game in this one. I think the Eagles hold this one down 28-13. The last game of the weekend is
the best game of the weekend. Sunday, 6.30 p.m. Eastern, Baltimore Ravens, one and a half point
favorites at the Buffalo Bills. Give me Buffalo at home, 33-30. And when I said I like a teaser here Buffalo up to plus seven and a half getting
honestly you could tease any of these together tease Philadelphia down six points to plus a half
so it's just pick them you know what I mean tease Buffalo up to seven and a half I love that tease
Washington and Houston up to 14 and a half I love all all of those. I might do like a round Robin of those on FanDuel.
So yeah, I just hope that we get good games. I hope we get close games, but that's how I see
things playing out this week. And then we'll have Buffalo and Kansas City on one side and Detroit
and Philadelphia on the other chalk, but it's been a chalky year in the NFL where the good teams are
really good and the bad teams are really bad.
So I'm going to roll with that for this NFL season,
but that's going to do it for me today,
folks.
Again,
if the Titans hire a general manager over the weekend,
I'm going to be here with breaking news and update on that.
We're going to talk about that for a couple of days.
If not on Monday,
we'll have our first mock draft Monday of the all season and the Titans get a
quarterback in the mock draft that I want to look at first.
So we'll discuss that.
But that's going to do it for me today.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland.
And this was Locked on Titans.
