The Tennessee Titans added a lot of talent to the team this offseason,
but the best player on the team is still Jeffrey Simmons.

We are continuing Top 5 Week here on the Locked On Titans podcast.
On today's show, I am going to rank the top five current Tennessee Titans,
with, of course, Jeffrey Simmons at the top of the list.
I am going to rank the top five Tennessee Titans of all time. And I'm also
going to give you my personal favorite top five Titans of my 25 years of Tennessee Titans
fandom. Before we get into my ranks though, do want to thank you for making the Locked

It's your team every day here on the Locked on Titans podcast.
Again, I am your host, Tyler Rowland, 25 years as a Tennessee Titans fanatic.
I've covered the team for USA Today,
covered the team for Sports Illustrated.
I do in-depth film breakdowns over on my YouTube channel
at Tic Tac Titans.
And of course, I've been the host of the number one
Tennessee Titans podcast in the world
for five years running.
But with that being said,
let's get into my top five Tennessee Titans
on the roster right now.
Curious to hear what you guys have to say about this.
Let me know your top five down below in the YouTube comments
or hit me up on Twitter at TicTacTitans and let me know your top five.
But number one for me is Jeffrey Simmons.
And I don't know if this is controversial or not, but I don't think that it should be.
Jeffrey Simmons is, in terms of full value,
you want to look at cap hit, of course it's Harold Landry,
but the full contract, the full amount of a contract,
Jeffrey Simmons is the highest paid player on the entire team.
And he should be.
He is the best player on the team.
Jeffrey Simmons at his peak,
and I know that some people want to take shots at Simmons
because he didn't play the end of last season. He was banged up at the end of the season before that,
but I've continued to say that it seems obvious to me that the Titans intentionally shut Jeffrey
Simmons down at the end of last year because they were out of playoff contention. Why are we going
to risk serious injury to our best player
when we can't even make the playoffs?
Like, what would be the point in that?
There is no point in that.
So that's why the Tennessee Titans, in fact, did not take that risk.
They sat Jeffrey Simmons down.
I think that Jeffrey Simmons could have played at the end of last year
if the Titans were in a playoff chase.
Like, that's what I believe.
You can't tell me anything different.
Look, an interior rusher like Jeffrey
Simmons, who can be dominant
against the run, who can get to the
quarterback as well. I mean, we have
seen Jeffrey Simmons absolutely
take over games.
And
he is, in my opinion,
a top three,
if you want to be more conservative, top
five interior defensive lineman in the entire NFL.
Now Aaron Donald is gone.
And in my opinion, at his absolute best,
peak Jeffrey Simmons is the best interior defensive lineman in the NFL now.
Like, during his run in 2021 where he was absolutely dominant,
he was the second best interior defensive lineman in the world
behind Aaron Donald, who is, you know,
maybe the best defensive player of all time.
He's definitely in the top five.
So, I just, the peak of Jeffrey Simmons,
his ability to impact games is second to none on the team right now.
Jeffrey Simmons is the best player on the Tennessee Titans.
But number two is a new addition, and I have it as Legereus Sneed.
And again, my calculus here is
Legereus Sneed is one of
the top five cornerbacks in the NFL.
He is top five at his
position in the NFL, just like I
feel about Jeffrey Simmons. So how
could he not be better than
other guys on the team who aren't that
high at their position? Nobody
else on the team is as highly ranked at their position in the NFL
as Jeffrey Simmons and LeJarrius Sneed.
So to me, those are the clear-cut top two.
No discussion there.
And Jeffrey Simmons, to me, is the better player over LeJarrius Sneed.
And the contracts, I think, bear that out.
Like, the proof is in the pudding here.
Look at what these guys are getting paid.
So Simmons and Sneed at the top for me.
But after that, it's both the wide receivers.
Calvin Ridley and DeAndre Hopkins.
And look, I would understand if you flip this.
If you said DeAndre Hopkins is three, Calvin Ridley is four.
Alright, that's fine.
But I will continue to bang the drum that I have been banging for over a month now
that Calvin Ridley is the better player.
Calvin Ridley is the more highly paid player.
Calvin Ridley was the more highly sought-after player.
Calvin Ridley is going to be the Titans' number one wide receiver,
not only this year, but probably next year as well.
I believe in Calvin Ridley.
I think Calvin Ridley can get back to that 1400 yard
season form that he had in his last good year with the Atlanta Falcons last year. Again,
people act like you see the conversation about Calvin Ridley online and it's Jack's fan saying,
oh, he didn't run the right routes. Oh, he had drops. Oh, this and that. He can't get all press.
Calvin Ridley is not the same guy that
he was. He's 29. I mean, last I checked, he had 76 catches, a thousand yards and eight
touchdowns last year. And the conversation around Calvin Ridley is like, he's washed.
He's a bum. He missed two years of football and then put up that stat line. Like this
guy's a freak. The Titans absolutely
stole him from Jacksonville and any hate on Calvin Ridley is pure cope. Let's be honest. If anything,
missing two years of football means his body is younger than 29 years old. I think Calvin Ridley
is the better football player than DeAndre Hopkins right now. But again, they're very close. And if
you wanted to flip that and say Hopkins is three
and Ridley is four, I would accept that.
Now, number five is where things get a little spicy.
So when I did this on Twitter,
I put Will Levis at number five.
And a lot of people were saying,
how can you put Will Levis in there?
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
He hasn't proven that.
And you know what? You guys are right. It is not can you put Will Levis in there? Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. He hasn't proven that. And you know what?
You guys are right.
It is not fair to put Will Levis in the top five best players on the team right now.
Now, that is my projection.
If Will Levis isn't one of the top five players on the team by midseason,
well, then he's probably not the guy.
So, yes, projecting a little bit to have Will Levis fifth.
But I certainly think that Will Levis should be fifth very soon.
Or, well, we need a new quarterback.
You know what I mean?
Your quarterback has to be one of the best players on your football team.
Like, we don't have, and I know people are going to say,
look at Brock Purdy, but we don't have Kyle Shanahan as a head coach. Alright? I think that
Brian Callahan can be a hell of a head coach. And not be Kyle Shanahan
one of the best offensive, maybe the best offensive coach of all time.
I mean, he's up there with, obviously, the greats like Bill Walsh. I mean, he's not going to
overtake Bill Walsh. Even Sean McVay is a good conversation.
Him and Kyle Shanahan.
But Shanahan is clearly one of the top coaches of my lifetime.
So without him, you need your quarterback to be a top five player.
So if it's not Will Levis, to me, number five is clearly Harold Landry.
Harold Landry is the fifth best player on the team.
Again, Will Levis needs to jump him if we all want to keep our sanity.
But I would say that is the true top five best players on the team.
Jeffrey Simmons, LeJarius Sneed, Calvin Ridley, DeAndre Hopkins, Harold Landry.
That's my top five.
Let me know your top five.
Very curious for the feedback here on this one.
But who are the top five Tennessee Titans of all time?
Very excited to get into my list there before I do.
Do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought to you by Game Time.

Titans fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast. Continuing top five week here on the show.
We did X-Factors, breakout candidates, make or break.
Then we did cut candidates and trade options and first-time Pro Bowl potential.
So check out those top five episodes from earlier this week if you missed those.
But did the top five players on the current Tennessee Titans?
Now I'm wading into some historical waters,
doing the best Tennessee Titans of all time.
This is certainly going to be a controversial topic,
I would imagine, especially with some of our older folks
who are even older than me who have been watching this team
for even longer than 25 years.
But before I dive into it,
I do want to thank you again for making Locked on Titans your first listen
each and every day, Monday through Friday,
Tennessee Titans content all year round, always for free.
You won't beat that anywhere else.
Make sure you get subscribed today.
Subscribe to your team every day.
Do want to make clear here before I do my list.
This is of the Tennessee Titans era.
I'm not counting Houston Oilers players
just since the Tennessee Titans moved to Tennessee.
Well, since the Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee
and became the Tennessee Titans.
Do you know what I'm saying?
All right.
So just, and I'll tell you the honest truth.
The reason is, is because that's what I watched.
I can't sit up here and give you some crazy explanation
on players that played in the 80s and 70s.
I was born in 91.
I just simply don't know those players.
I don't.
I don't know them well enough to speak accurately on them.
If I'm just being honest.
I'm not going to lie to you guys.
It just wouldn't make any sense.
So what I've seen is the Tennessee Titans.
And what I remember is the Tennessee Titans.
So it makes it easy to just say,
hey, since the team became the Titans,
these are my top five.
And there is no way.
There is no effing way
that you could have anybody at the top
other than Bruce Matthews.
Like, I don't want to hear a conversation.
I don't want an argument.
There is nobody who's ever played
for the Tennessee Titans
that is a better player than Bruce Matthews.
Bruce Matthews,
Hall of Fame offensive lineman,
majority played left guard in his career,
but did play a year of center at the end of his Titans career,
was with the Titans for five seasons in Tennessee.
So the majority of his career was with the Oilers,
but he spent five years in Tennessee.
He's a Titan as well.
Hall of Fame, like I said, Hall of Famer.
Titans don't have a lot of those.
14-time Pro Bowler, when the Pro Bowl mattered.
Seven-time first-team All-Pro.
He was on the all-1990s decade team.
And if you want to say, oh, all those stats are good,
but he was still a five-time Pro Bowler
and a three-time first-team All-Pro in Tennessee in those five seasons.
Bruce Matthews is the greatest Titan of all time.
And there's no doubt.
There's just no doubt.
All right? There's no doubt about it.
Now, if people argue for someone else,
I would imagine that it would be number two on my list,
Steve Ayer McNair, baby.
Throw up the hooks.
Watching Steve McNair play as a kid.
So I was introduced to professional football through Brett Favre.
I've said this on the show a lot.
I had people on Twitter accuse me of being a Packers fan.
I was raised in a Packer house.
My dad's been a Packers fan since 66.
Yes, he is old, okay?
Brett Favre is what I saw that was like,
oh, this is football.
Watch his childlike enthusiasm,
him running around the field in that Super Bowl win.
Like, that's what made me love football.
So to watch Steve McNair, who played like that as well,
toughest player that's ever played for the team,
battle through injuries, have that excitement out on the field.
The play is never dead if I am still standing.
Like, Steve McNair had a lot of that Brett Favre enthusiasm,
so I was instantly drawn to that. Three-time
Pro Bowler, MVP, got the Titans
to their only Super Bowl appearance ever.
R.I.P. to Steve McNair. He is just an
absolute legend for this team. I can't put him over
Bruce Matthews as a Hall of Famer, guys. 14 Pro Bowls,
7 All Pros, all 1990s, one of the greatest players in NFL
history, not just Titans history. Steve McNair
is number two because he is greatness
for this franchise, but in the all-time pantheon
of the NFL,
Steve McNair is nowhere close to the level that Bruce Matthews is at.
And that's just a reality. No disrespect.
That's just a reality.
Number three, though.
Derrick Henry.
Derrick Henry.
Look, Derrick Henry was the driving force.
Now, I think I'll lay that take out here when I get to my favorite players, but Derrick Henry is considered the driving force of this Tennessee Titans run that we experienced from 2019
to 2021. The second most successful
run in Titans history. And Derrick Henry was
at the center of it all. He was the star of it all. I don't think he was the
most important player on those teams, but the person who I do think is most
important, can't put him in the top five all-time Titans list.
But Derrick Henry, four-time Pro Bowler, first team
All-Pro one year, second team All-Pro one year as well.
Offensive player of the year in 2020 with a 2,000-yard season.
90 touchdowns.
Holy crap.
90 touchdowns.
As a Tennessee Titan, 9,500 yards.
And if he didn't get hurt, that back half of 2021,
he would be over 10,000 yards for his career and maybe 100 touchdowns.
So, got gotta have Derrick
Henry number three. But number
four, I went with Eddie George. Again,
another driving force like Steve
McNair, that Super Bowl run team.
Eddie George and Derrick Henry
stuff is so comparable. Both of them,
four-time pro bowlers. Both of them,
one-time first-team all-pro.
Eddie George didn't get offensive
player of the year, but he got Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Eddie George, 10,000 yards with the Titans,
but only 64 touchdowns.
Think about that.
Derrick Henry has 26 more touchdowns
than Eddie George in the same amount of time.
That's why, and Steve McNair and Eddie George together,
Ryan Tannehill deserves his
credit, of course, and AJ Brown deserves his credit for sure. But Derrick Henry was more
important to the Titans than Eddie George was to those early Titans teams. Like it was very similar.
I'm not trying to act like there's a big gap, but you got to give Derrick Henry the edge there. So
I have Henry over Eddie George, but Eddie George number four.
And Eddie George was a big reason why I'm a Titans fan.
Coming from Ohio, being an Ohio State fan,
watching him win the Heisman and then go to the Titans, that made it easy for me to kind of choose them as my team.
And then finally, I have Kevin Byard.
I think Kevin Byard is the best defensive player in Tennessee Titans history.
Two-time Pro Bowler, two-time first-team All-Pro,
27 interceptions in his career, constantly made
big plays, had an eight-interception season
as a third-round pick, like,
you gotta give it to the mayor of Murfreesboro. He is number five
in the all-time Titans list to me.
Obviously, you have honorable mentions.
Frank Wycheck, Keith Bullock, Samari Roll.
I mean, there are definitely Brad Hopkins.
You could put Michael Roos.
You could put Rob Baronis even.
You could throw in there.
Craig Hendrick.
Like, Ryan Tannehill is probably in the top 10.
You know, Javon Curse, another name.
Like, there are plenty of honorable mentions,
but I feel pretty good about my top five.
Bruce Matthews, Steve McNair, Derek Henry, Eddie George, Kevin Byard.
Let me know your top five Titans of all time.
And again, we're just talking Titans era.
But now, I'm going to give you my personal favorite top five Titans ever.
My personal list.
So I'm excited to talk about that. Titans fans, let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
We've done the best five Tennessee Titans on the team right now.
The top five Tennessee Titans of the Titans era.
Now I'm going to give you my personal favorite top five Tennessee Titans.
Before I get into it, thanks again for making Locked on Titans
your first listen each and every day.

But, so this list seems to perplex people.
Sometimes people don't understand what I'm saying.
These are my favorite five Titans ever.
The guys who I liked the most.
Okay?
And there are some players who are not on this list
that will probably drive you guys crazy.
And there is at least one player on this list
that I know drives
people crazy still. And I don't really care because it's my favorites. These are my personal
favorites. Number one is Kevin Byard. I have said this plenty of times. If you've been watching the
show for any amount of time, you know, Kevin Byard is my favorite Tennessee Titan of all time.
of all time.
Number one,
I knew it.
I knew it when he was drafted.
Third round, 2016.
I wasn't doing the show.
I wasn't covering the Titans for money or anything like that.
I was just purely a fan.
And let me just say this.
I'm so blessed
to have the opportunity to do this show,
but it does change how you watch the games.
It changes how I consume the team.
It is work.
It is work.
So the pure fandom and pure joy of now anything that happens with the Titans,
I have to immediately think of how to do this for work.
You know, like when a big player,
when the Titans got LeJarius Sneed,
before I did the show, I would just,
let's get a beer.
I'm doing, you know, bubba bug.
Sneed, baby freak.
And now, instantly, my brain goes,
okay, so I need to do a video.
I need to do a show.
Where are his stats? I have a bookmark folder with all of his prevalent information
that I found on Twitter. My brain just instantly goes into
work mode. So when Kevin Byard was drafted
in 2016, me and my brother, who is also a big Titans fan, we were
together watching the draft and I was like, bro,
he's going to be the guy.
Like, I just know it.
I just feel it.
Middle Tennessee State, small school, didn't know him.
I just, something about it.
I just knew that Bayard would be special.
I can't tell you how.
Just a gut feeling.
And he, like many Titans players who I believed in have not,
Kevin Byard delivered tenfold.
He was even better than I expected, and I thought he would be great.
So, again, I have Kevin Byard as the fifth best Tennessee Titan of all time.
To kind of put a bet on that guy the moment he was drafted
and for him to pay it off double, I love Kevin Byard.
I absolutely love Kevin Byard.
For a long time, he was the only Tennessee Titans jersey that I had
because I just didn't trust anybody else.
You know what I mean?
I ended up getting a Derrick Henry Oilers
because I felt I needed to pay homage to what he's done for this team.
And for me personally, my personal career,
I owe a lot to Derrick Henry for what he's done
and the hype that he's given to this team.
But Kevin Byard is the guy.
He'll always be my guy.
Love KB, my favorite Tennessee Titan of all time.
But the next guy on my list would have been my favorite Tennessee Titan of all time
if John Robinson wasn't a moron.
And it's A.J. Brown.
And it makes people mad that I say that, but there has never,
there has never in my life been a more exciting Tennessee Titan than A.J. Brown.
For me personally, watching A.J. Brown play football,
we have never had elite superstar wide receiver play. Ever. Ever.
And with passing in the, like, think about that
one-handed catch against San Francisco with one arm in his elbow
and like, think about bowling over those guys at the Baltimore Ravens
at the five-yard line and getting in the catch against the Raiders,
the 91-yard bomb.
I just, man, just flooded with sadness.
Like that guy, A.J. Brown's going to be one of the best wide receivers
in the history of the NFL.
He was just, I loved A.J. Brown.
I loved him from the moment against Atlanta, scoring that touchdown.
I was just like, I love you.
I, like, man.
Man, it makes me hurt.
It makes me hurt.
And I know most people in the comments are going, move on, move on already.
I can't.
I can't move on.
The most talented wide receiver
and one of the top five most talented players
this team has ever had ever.
They let him go for nothing.
For Traylon Burks.
Man.
So, A.J. Brown,
personal joy watching a player play.
Only Kevin Byard made me happier.
A Kevin Byard interception is the only thing better
than an A.J. Brown touchdown for me in my experience.
So I know a lot of people don't agree with that.
I don't care. It's my personal favorites.
Next is Keith Bullock.
So I played linebacker as a little kid.
I mean, we're talking about little, short,
I played linebacker as a little kid.
I mean, we're talking about little, short,
garbage Tyler at, you know, third grade.
I'm like eight years old, nine years old.
And I used to wear the armbands on my arm halves just like Keith Bullock.
I wanted to be a linebacker forever.
Like, if you ask me at nine years old,
I'm going to be a professional linebacker in the NFL.
Now, unfortunately I was never even close to being that kind of athlete,
never even close to being big enough to even dream about that stuff, which if you can't play sports for a living, might as well talk about it. Right. So that's been my goal since I was like 15 years
old is, Oh, I'm not going to make it. So I'm going to talk about it. But Keith Bullock is like who I wanted to be
when I was a little kid.
So I love Keith Bullock.
Shout out to KB.
I love KBs, I guess.
That's two KBs on my list.
But Bullock's number three for me.
Four is Kevin Dyson.
So when I was a little kid,
Eddie George
got me
to notice the Titans because I knew him.
And then the jerseys were sweet.
I loved the Titans jerseys, the concept, the newness.
I'm eight, nine years old.
You know, brand new team.
Oh, this is cool.
Me and my brother are like, yeah, we're in for this.
this is cool.
Me and my brother are like,
yeah, we're in for this.
And of course,
naturally people are drawn to wide receiver play
because wide receivers are exciting.
But watching Kevin Dyson
catch the Music City Miracle
and run it down the sideline,
that was the moment.
Like, that was the moment
where me and my brother were like,
this is our team, baby.
And I loved Kevin Dyson, man.
I love KD. Just absolutely loved him. So I know that that's a little bit of a deep cut there,
but man, I loved Dyson. That was my guy. And then you got to throw in Steve McNair.
Loved watching Steve McNair play. But let me say this. A close sixth place, a close sixth place is Vince Young.
I know.
I know.
I get it.
One thing that you will never bully me off of,
one thing I will never change my mind about,
is Vince Young would have been a great NFL player
if he had more creative NFL coaching.
Norm Chow, they were going to take Matt Liner.
They all were going to take Matt Liner,
so they hired Norm Chow from USC,
and then Bud Adams said, no, we're taking Vince Young.
Not a fit.
Jeff Fisher and Norm Chow creating an offense for Vince Young,
no wonder it didn't work.
Now Vince Young had his own personal problems
and he has his own share of fault
for his career not working out.
But when Vince Young was cooking
for the Titans with CJ2K,
bro, I'll be straight honest.
I was never happier.
I loved it.
Vince Young winning the national championship
with Texas against USC in 2005
is the greatest football game I've ever
seen. That is my favorite football
game of all time, period.
Period.
Man, I loved Vince Young.
So that's a close sixth, and
I wake up certain days saying,
he might be five.
So, my personal favorite Titans
ever, Kevin Byard, A.J. Brown personal favorite Titans ever, Kevin Byard,
AJ Brown,
Keith Bullock,
Kevin Dyson,
Steve McNair,
