Episode Date: October 13, 2024

The Tennessee Titans dropped a must-win game out of the bye against the Indianapolis Colts. While there were a ton of people to blame, the head coach Brian Callahan is the biggest culprit. High up on ...the blame list are two players high up on the pay list as well as Calvin Ridley and L'Jarius Sneed just weren't worth the money they are being given on Sunday. Finally, here was some good in the game with the defensive line and offensive line handling their business, but good isn't good enough when there is that much bad.Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel:https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitansTicTacTitans Merchandise: https://dixons-dream.square.site/shop/tictactitans-gear/C3AAPNWXSXA6SBYG3USV2I7R?page=1&limit=30&sort_by=category_order&sort_order=ascFollow Tyler on Twitter @TicTacTitansFollow the show on Facebook @LockedOnTitansPodSubscribe to the Locked On Titans YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/c/LockedOnTitans/videosSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!HimsVisit Hims.com/LOCKEDON to start your free online visit. Starting point is 00:00:00 The Tennessee Titans choke a must-win game against the Colts, and Brian Callahan deserves the most blame. We'll talk about it now on today's edition of Locked on Titans. You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked on Podcast Network, your team every day. Welcome to the Locked On Titans podcast. I am your host, Tyler Rowland, Titans fans. Today's edition of the Locked On Titans podcast is brought to you by PricePix.
Starting point is 00:00:37 Go to pricepix.com slash locked on NFL. Use the code locked on NFL to win $50 instantly when you play $5. The Tennessee Titans absolutely choke once again in a must-win game against the Indianapolis Colts. They lose 20-17. Brian Callahan, Tennessee Titans head coach, is the most to blame for this loss. I'm going to explain why this is mostly on Brian Callahan today. Also, LeJarrius Sneed and Calvin Ridley giving the Titans absolutely nothing for the money
Starting point is 00:01:12 that they are making. That's a big issue, and I will talk some about some of the good performances in this game in Tighten Up and Tighten Down as well, but before we dive in, thanks again for making the Locked on Titans podcast your first listen each and every day. Remember, Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year round, always for free. You're not going to beat that anywhere else.
Starting point is 00:01:34 Make sure that you get subscribed. Stay subscribed. It's your team every day here on the Locked on Titans podcast. But, I mean, at the end of the day, Brian Callahan choked this game away. Now, there's a long list of blame. We can blame LeJarrius Sneed. We can blame the referees who were outright terrible in this game. The referees were awful.
Starting point is 00:01:55 Make no mistake about it. Even the referees on the television broadcast. We're talking about how terrible the referees in the game were in this one. So, make no mistake about it. There's a lot of blame to go around. Willes in the game were in this one. So make no mistake about it. There's a lot of blame to go around. Will Levis was not good in this game. But for me, the number one person to blame in this game is Brian Callahan. The Tennessee Titans head coach hurt them the most.
Starting point is 00:02:19 If we're divvying out different slices of blame pie in this one, Brian Callahan is the most to blame by far, in my opinion. Let me know down below in the comments, if you're watching on YouTube Live, who you think is the most to blame for this loss for the Titans. But I'll explain to you why I think it's Brian Callahan. So, a couple of different things. Number one, the play calling. Alright?
Starting point is 00:02:43 I get it. Okay? And some people take this as me taking shots at Will Levis you can take it that way if you want to that's up to you but I am meaning this as a shot at Brian Callahan Brian Callahan called the offense scared all day long Brian Callahan calls plays like he is absolutely terrified of Will Levis. He is terrified to throw the football. And maybe some of you in the comments are going to say,
Starting point is 00:03:11 well, do you see the way Will Levis plays quarterback? I would be terrified as well. I would understand if that's your takeaway. But my point here is, if you're going to call plays like that, then put in Mason Rudolph then, if that's what you're going to call plays like that, then put in Mason Rudolph then. If that's what you're going to do, Brian. Now look, I think that calling plays scared with Will Levis is the same way that you're going to call plays with Mason Rudolph because Mason Rudolph is a backup quarterback who can't drive the ball down the field anyways. But make that decision. If you're going to call these plays, think about it.
Starting point is 00:03:48 The very first drive, you get an eight-yard run. You throw two passes behind the line of scrimmage that lose you five yards. Think about in the second half when you finally go up and then you stop the Colts and you run three straight runs straight up the middle and punt. Run, run, run, punt. Brian Callahan is calling plays terrified. He's calling so conservative. He's trying to run a high school football offense and you cannot win in the NFL consistently with that. You can't win in the NFL at all when you're not playing a JV team like the Miami Dolphins were last game. So Brian Callahan's play calling is so conservative and so scared he is literally pissing down his leg on the sideline because he's so terrified
Starting point is 00:04:35 to call plays for Will Levis. And it makes it even, that in itself, that in itself is annoying as all get out. But when you add to it, the Jacksonville Jaguars are absolutely terrible at football. They are a garbage football team, just like the Titans. And they put up 37 points, throwing the ball down the field at will against the Indianapolis Colts. This Indianapolis Colts defense is god-awful, and they're going to go back to being god-awful. It's just classic Tennessee Titans.
Starting point is 00:05:12 The Colts have one of the worst pass defenses, one of the worst defenses we have seen in recent NFL history, and the Tennessee Titans make them look like the 85 Bears. The only time that the Titans were able to score in the first half was after an interception gave them a short field. And then Tony Pollard breaks off a 40-yard run. The Titans were terrible on offense in this game. Miserable. And to be that bad on offense against this Colts defense, again
Starting point is 00:05:43 that is on the coach. You had a bye week to plan for this garbage defense. And this is the product that you put on the field? Brian Callahan's play calling, and especially against this Colts defense, absolutely pathetic. Pathetic. And not only that, let's talk game management.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Let's talk game management for a second. Brian Callahan challenges the spot. Stupid challenge. Not only was it not that close, but you're probably not going to win a challenge on the spot anyways. You just admitted that with Will Levis. And then a couple of plays later, Josh Downs fumbles the football, but you can't challenge it because you wasted your challenge on that drive already.
Starting point is 00:06:27 A miserable challenge by Brian Callahan. What are we doing? And then, and then, to cap it off, to put the cherry on top of Brian Callahan screwing his football team, not going for it on the second-to-last drive. How can you not go for it on the second to last drive? How can you not go for it on the second to last drive? Follow me here. Follow the logic here. If you go for it on that fourth and seventh and you don't get it, what do you got to do? You got to get a stop and force the coach to a field goal. All right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:05 All right. If you punt it, you got to get a stop and then get the ball back and drive the entire length of the field anyways. I mean, just... Just uncomprehensible. I mean, reprehensible. And then finally, let me add as well, we have the play calling against this defense
Starting point is 00:07:31 and the plan the Titans had anyway. We have the challenge. We have not going for it on the second to last drive. And you are employing Cole Anderson as this team's special teams coach. How can any logical human being employ Cole Anderson as the special teams coach? Disaster day for Brian Callahan. Disastrous day for Brian Callahan. There are a lot of people to blame, but Brian Callahan gets the most blame.
Starting point is 00:07:58 I'm going to tell you who else is to blame because two of the highest paid players on the Titans are two of their worst players in this game. We'll talk about it now. Titans fans, let's continue our recap of the Tennessee Titans choke job against the Indianapolis Colts 20-17. We talked about who I think is the most to blame for this loss, and it's Brian Callahan. And I went over the numerous reasons why this is on Brian Callahan. But let me say this. He is not the only one to blame.
Starting point is 00:10:56 There are plenty of other players to blame in this game. And, you know, normally, and I'm going to go in order here of who I think deserves the most blame at the end of the day. I went with Brian Callahan at the top, but right underneath Brian Callahan is LeJarius Sneed. What a despicable performance by LeJarius Sneed and absolutely hilarious, hilarious that Denard Wilson called him the best cornerback in the NFL this week. Oh, my God. That is nonsense.
Starting point is 00:11:32 Now, when LeJarrius Sneed was traded for, I thought calling him the best cornerback in the NFL was maybe a little rich. Got guys like Sauce Gardner, Pat Sertan, Jalen Johnson. I thought he was one of the top five cornerbacks in the NFL, but that has absolutely not been the case. LeJarrius Sneed got roasted over and over and over all day long. So you want to blame Brian Callahan, I'm with you. He's at the top of the list of the blame pie handouts.
Starting point is 00:11:59 But right under him is LeJarrius Sneed. So we're going to talk tighten up, tighten down. I'm starting with the tighten downs right now. Thank you for making the Locked on Titans your first listen each and every day. But, I mean, how many times did Sneed get roasted? And he didn't even give up catches every time he got roasted. Let's just go over it. Alec Pierce roasted in the first half.
Starting point is 00:12:23 Legereus Sneed had to get DPI. There was another long DPI in the first half. LeJarrius Sneed had to get DPI. There was another long DPI in the second half. There were two passes where LeJarrius Sneed got smoked by Alec Pierce and Flacco overthrew him. Sneed could have gave up 200 passing yards in this game if Flacco threw accurate passes to wide open receivers. Not only that, but he gets mossed by Michael Pittman for the game-winning touchdown in the end zone.
Starting point is 00:12:48 It's one-on-one. Michael Pittman with a broke back. Michael Pittman got snapped by Bain this week. Ended up playing, and LeJarrius Sneed got roasted by a guy with a broke back. My back, spinal. I mean, LeJarrius Sneed got absolutely torched by a dude with a broken back. Think about that. So not only did he get roasted down the field multiple times
Starting point is 00:13:14 for catches and DPIs with Alec Pierce, but the two biggest plays of the game in the fourth quarter, Michael Pittman mosses LeJarrius Sneed for the game-winning touchdown, and then he gives up the game-ending pass to Michael Pittman across the field. LeJarrius Sneed was despicably bad. Not only is he not the best cornerback in the NFL, he looked like the worst cornerback in the NFL. And what makes it even worse, just purely as a Titans fan, Christian Fulton is bawling for the San Diego
Starting point is 00:13:45 or they're always San Diego to me for the Los Angeles Chargers. Elijah Moulton, we'll talk about Jamal Adams later this week. I told you Jamal Adams is washed and a garbage football player and not a very good person either. Quit on the football team
Starting point is 00:14:02 and is out for the next four games because he's crying about snaps, even though he's been awful when he's played. I just can't. Elijah Molden gets an interception, literally two minutes after the Titans game ends. It's like, not only do the Titans sign players who are good, and then they suck immediately,
Starting point is 00:14:25 but the Titans sucky players go to other teams and are good immediately. It is demoralizing. It is depressing. I don't even have words to acknowledge the pain that Titans fans feel watching good players at other places come in and suck and then watching their suck and their trash turn into treasure for other teams. It is just insane, man. It's insane. So, LeJarius Sneed, terrible. Kenneth Murray, you box score scouts,
Starting point is 00:14:56 you guys who go in and you look, oh, Kenneth Murray has this tackles. Kenneth Murray has these tackles for loss. Watch the film. Kenneth Murray is awful. Miss these tackles for loss. Watch the film. Kenneth Murray is awful. Missed tackles. Terrible in coverage. Overruns plays. The big huge run that Tyler Goodson had to the left side. Miserable play by Kenneth Murray.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Tyler Goodson breaking the tackle in the red zone to get it to the two-yard line. Miserable play by Kenneth Murray. The DPI on third and ten with Josh Downs over the middle. Miserable play by Kenneth Murray. The DPI on third and ten with Josh Downs over the middle. Miserable play by Kenneth Murray. Kenneth Murray is not a good football player. He is not good. He makes flashy plays that casual people that just watch the game on Sunday, they go, oh, look, he just made that good play.
Starting point is 00:15:39 He's good. He's not good at football. I told you this in February or March, whenever he got signed. I tried to tell you. So, major tighten down to Kenneth Murray. Major tighten down to LeJarius Sneed. A tighten down to Calvin Ridley as well. Now look, I'm giving Calvin Ridley a half of a tighten down
Starting point is 00:16:03 because some of this stuff is out of his control. How can Brian Callahan not get Calvin Ridley a half of the Titan down because some of this stuff is out of his control. How can Brian Callahan not get Calvin Ridley open? And when Calvin Ridley is open, Will Levis often throws a bad pass. But Calvin Ridley had two drops in this game as well that are on him. LeJarrius Dean and Calvin Ridley were the most expensive contracts that the Titans gave out this entire offseason, and neither of them did anything in this game.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Calvin Ridley ran 21 routes, had eight targets, and had zero catches for zero yards. That's not just on Callahan and Levis. That's on Ridley too. Awful. Awful. Some other Titan downs. I did Brian Callahan.
Starting point is 00:16:46 I did Colt Anderson, LeJarius Sneed, Kenneth Murray, Calvin Ridley. I'm going to give a tighten down to Jamal Adams. Again, we're going to talk about this later in the week,
Starting point is 00:16:59 but Jamal Adams quitting on his football team, essentially, complaining about snaps, all that. I mean, I didn't like three moves this offseason. I didn't like Sweat, and I apologize for that. We'll talk about Sweat, who had a good game in our next segment, and tighten up.
Starting point is 00:17:14 But I didn't like Sweat. I didn't like Adams. I didn't like Murray. Well, I went two for three, folks. So I know that ain't good enough for some of you, but like I said in the Sweat video, shut up. Anyways, I kind of want to give a Titan down to Leroy Watson. Three penalties in this game.
Starting point is 00:17:31 Two of them back-to-back, a holding and a false start when the Titans were in the red zone. Not good enough, but he was better than Nicholas Petit-Ferrer, and I didn't think that that would happen either. So you kind of, I don't think the Titans gave up a sack in this one. They were able to run the ball with success. So, you know, the reality
Starting point is 00:17:51 is here, the Tennessee Titans could not lose this game. They could not lose this game coming out of the bye, at home, against a banged up Colts team with a miserable defense. They could not lose this game, and they did. And they're 1-4, and the season is over. The season is over.
Starting point is 00:18:08 We've got to look towards the NFL draft. We've got to talk about who the Titans can cut, who the Titans can get rid of, who the Titans can trade at the trade deadline to get some picks back because it is full rebuild time. This team sucks. This team sucks. And you all need to accept it. Everyone needs to accept it. This
Starting point is 00:18:27 football team is awful. They're going to be one of the bottom five teams in the NFL in the draft. They'll get a top five pick. And I want to keep Levis in. I want to keep seeing what Levis is going to do and let him tank us to the promised land, but I would not have thought the Titans should take a quarterback. When I did my mock draft Monday, I did not think the Titans should take a quarterback. They basically have to. They basically have to. Levis is not the guy.
Starting point is 00:18:54 But let's talk about some good stuff. Let's talk about some players who played well because there is some good in this trash of a game. Before we talk about it, though, I do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought to you by PricePix. PricePix is the best place to get real money sports action.
Starting point is 00:19:14 They have over 10 million members and they've given out billions of dollars in awarded winnings. PricePix makes daily fantasy sports accessible to all. Starting point is 00:19:33 So you look at the Price Picks projections here. Calvin Ridley, one catch. DeAndre Hopkins, 20.5 yards. Tony Pollard, 75.5 rushing yards. Tony Pollard, 75 and a half rushing yards. Will Levis, a half of an interception. All you do is pick two to six players and say whether they're going to do more or less. It's really that simple.
Starting point is 00:19:55 And again, you can win up to 100 times your money. So make sure that you download the PrizePix app today. Use the code LOCKEDONNFL. You're going to get $50 instantly after you play your first $5 lineup. Again, download the PrizePix app today. Use the code LOCKEDONNFL to get $50 instantly after you play your first $5 lineup. It's PrizePix. Run your game. Titans fans, let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:20:44 A choke job. An absolute choke job. on Titans podcast. Oh, man. A choke job. An absolute choke job. We talked about why I think this is mostly on Brian Callahan. Brian Callahan is at the top of my list when it comes to blame. Under him, I go LeJarius Sneed. And then there are a couple other options underneath. We talked about Calvin Ridley.
Starting point is 00:21:02 We talked about Kenneth Murray. Let's talk about the good stuff. All right, because there's good stuff in there. There are good parts to this team. There are good parts to this team. I do want to say this, that I'm seeing a quote coming out from Calvin Ridley right now that says, quote,
Starting point is 00:21:22 and I'm going to edit this a little bit because this is a family program and I don't cuss on the show. Crap. I need some targets in the beginning of the freaking game too. Crap's getting crazy for me. So, Brian Callahan not only cost his team the game today, but the locker room is going to start to turn on him soon. Too many veteran players getting paid money to produce
Starting point is 00:21:50 with egg on their face looking like idiots. It's not going to be good. It's not going to be good. This team was sold as a playoff contender, and they're going to be a bottom five team. And every other team that has those circumstances, the coach has taken massive heat. Now, I am not going to get up here and tell you that Brian Callahan needs to be fired. That would be totally reactionary. That doesn't need to happen.
Starting point is 00:22:15 But some questions have to be asked. Some changes have to be made. Number one, fire Colt Anderson yesterday. He is a garbage special teams coach. What are we doing? The Colts had a ton of big returns. Punts nearly blocked all the time. Coverage units are terrible. Penalties, disruption, it's awful.
Starting point is 00:22:39 But we're going to do some tighten up. So I challenge you all listening to tell me which players you thought played well in this game. Let's talk about the good stuff to get out of here because, you know, we're all frustrated. But before I do, thanks again for making Locked on Titans your first listen. If you want to just hear about some general NFL news and avoid the Titans completely, check out Locked on NFL. I'm the lead host of Locked on NFL. I would appreciate your guys' support over there as well.
Starting point is 00:23:05 Get subscribed there. Again, it's free. I would appreciate your help there. But looking at the good, okay? Looking at the good here. Tony Pollard. Tony Pollard continues to be fantastic. 17 carries, 93 yards.
Starting point is 00:23:25 That's five and a half yards per carry. Had the long touchdown as well. Was it 23 yards? I think on the third and 19. This Colts defense is just so despicably bad. And for, just so bad. And this Titans team looked like a high school team against it. Just unreal to me.
Starting point is 00:23:48 Unreal. But Tony Pollard has been great this year. Tony Pollard has been fantastic. And we got to give credit to the offensive line as well. The offensive line was moving bodies. Will Levis wasn't sacked at all. Not once was Will Levis sacked. The offensive line played well in this game,
Starting point is 00:24:06 which makes this loss even more unbelievable that the offensive line played well. The defensive line played well. So let's do that. Peter Skowronski and J.C. Latham were awesome in this game. They were awesome in this game. Lloyd Cushenam were awesome in this game. They were awesome in this game. Lloyd Cushenberry looked good in this game. The Titans offensive line came to play.
Starting point is 00:24:30 The Titans offensive line did their job. Tony Pollard did his job. This run game went for 146 yards on 28 carries. It's 5.2 yards per carry with a touchdown. That's a great day on the ground. This passing offense, I mean, Will Levis 15 for 26, 83 yards, 3.2 yards per
Starting point is 00:24:50 attempt, one touchdown, one interception with some despicable throws in there too. People are going to clamor to defend Will Levis here. He was bad in this game and don't blame the shoulder. He's playing. He's out there playing. He should be fine. You can't blame the shoulder when he plays playing. He's out there playing. He should be fine.
Starting point is 00:25:07 You can't blame the shoulder when he plays bad. If he's out there, he should play well. So the offensive line in the run game deserves credit here. They played well enough to win. And then look at the defensive line. The defensive line. Excellent in this game. Jeffrey Simmons had his best game of the year. He had multiple pressures. He had a tackle for loss. He had a ton of run stops as well in big moments. Think about the
Starting point is 00:25:32 goal line stand near the end of the game when they forced the Colts to get the field goal in the fourth quarter. First, Jeffrey Simmons on second down makes a big play. And then Tavondre Sweat makes a huge play to stop the line of scrimmage. Hurts Ryan Kelly as well a big play. And then Tavondre Sweat makes a huge play to stuff the line of scrimmage. Hurts Ryan Kelly as well on the play. The Colts starting center. And forces the Colts to a field goal. Sebastian Joseph Day had a good stop in there as well.
Starting point is 00:25:57 Two tackles on the day. Sweat had three tackles. Simmons had three tackles in the TFL. Harold Landry didn't get a sack, but ran down the line of scrimmage and made a bunch of tackles in the TFL. Harold Landry didn't get a sack, but ran down the line of scrimmage and made a bunch of tackles. Seven tackles, two for loss, and two quarterback hits for Harold Landry. Landry played a really good, versatile game.
Starting point is 00:26:18 Arden Key even. You guys know I'm not a big Arden Key fan, but Arden Key even deserves some love. And we go into the secondary. LeJarrius Sneed was a disaster in this game, but Jarvis Brownlee Jr. Jarvis Brownlee Jr. was
Starting point is 00:26:33 amazing. And that ticky-tack pass interference when he got an interception in the end zone, that was despicable. And then to not call the pass interference on DeAndre Hopkins on the third down on the second to last drive. What are we doing here? But Jarvis Brownlee Jr. was incredible in this game.
Starting point is 00:26:51 The Titans have a real player with the rookie cornerback in the fifth round. Real quarterback or cornerback. They don't have a real quarterback on the team, but they have a real cornerback in Jarvis Brownlee Jr. Excellent in this game. For the most part, locked down anybody he was going against.
Starting point is 00:27:11 So, Jarvis Brownlee Jr., good. Tony Pollard and the offensive line, good. The defensive line, Jeffrey Simmons, Devondre Sweat, Harold Landry, good. All good in this game. But, Snead, Jeffrey Simmons, Devondre Sweat, Harold Landry, good.
Starting point is 00:27:25 All good in this game. But Snead being terrible, the passing offense being terrible, and Brian Callahan pissing down his leg all game blew this game for the Titans, and now their season is over. Now they have zero chance to make the playoffs. It is over.
Starting point is 00:27:47 It is over. They're not coming back from one and four to make the playoffs. It's not happening. It's not happening with this team. There is no Ryan Tannehill quarterback switch walking through that door. I know that there are some of you out there that just think Mason Rudolph is a starting quarterback in the NFL. You're idiots.
Starting point is 00:28:04 Okay, and I don't care if you're offended by that. If you think that Mason Rudolph a starting quarterback in the NFL, you're idiots. Okay? And I don't care if you're offended by that. If you think that Mason Rudolph is a starter in the NFL, you got to screw loose. Seek help. And the Titans offense would look basically the same.
