Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans Cam Ward CONFIDENCE is SKY HIGH | Rookie Weapons Impress | Offensive Line Confirms
Episode Date: August 17, 2025The Tennessee Titans should be sky high in their confidence in Cam Ward after two weeks of the preseason. Ward has checked every box you could ask for from the off-field to the on-field. It should giv...e Titans fans a lot of optimism for the future. Also, fans should feel excited for the rookie weapons like Elic Ayomanor and Gunnar Helm. Both have had great offseasons and look primed to contribute right away. Don't forget about the defense though where Femi Oladejo and Kevin Winston could make a bigger impact in year one than expected. Finally, one thing that has been the most concerning for Titans fans over the past few years is the offensive line, but they have confirmed enough this soon to feel great about the unit going into the season. I have a lot of concerns about this Tennessee Titans football team,
but my confidence in Cam Ward is sky high,
and I'll explain why on today's edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast,
part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked on Titans.
podcast. I am your host, Tyler Roland Titans fans on today's show. I'm going to go over the things
I'm most confident about with this football team. We've talked a lot about the issues I think
the team has and things I'm concerned with, but I want to go positive on today's show.
Talk about the things I'm most excited about. The Tennessee Titans offensive line
looks massively improved. I think all of these rookie weapons can have a major impact after
what we've seen so far. And again, my confidence in Cam Ward is as high as
possible and there are three main reasons why. Before I tell you those reasons, do want to thank
you for making Locked on Titans, your first listen each and every day. Remember, Monday through Friday,
Tennessee Titans content all year round, always for free. Make sure that you get subscribed,
stay subscribed. It's your team every day here on the Locked on Titans podcast. Speaking of
every day, shout up to my everydayers out there. Tune in Monday through Friday, couldn't do it
without you guys. If you aren't an everydayer, you need to be one. Three weeks until the Tennessee
Titans' first game against the Denver Broncos. The Titans have practice on Tuesday.
The Titans have practice on Wednesday. I'm going to be breaking those down. I'm going to be
doing a preview for the last preseason game of the year for the Titans, which is Friday
night. I'm going to go live after that game, breaking everything down. I'm going to come back
with my final 53-man roster prediction. And then the Tennessee Titans have roster cuts on Tuesday.
I'll be here to break down all of the madness. Who made the team? Who didn't make the team?
And then we got a lot to talk about as we get ready for the season ahead with season record predictions, statistical predictions, superlatives who's going to be the MVP of the team, the X factors, all of that.
So much coming your way here on the Locked on Titans podcast.
Make sure that you get subscribed, stay subscribed.
It's your team every day.
With that being said, my confidence in Cam Ward is as high as it could possibly be coming out of the last couple of weeks of training camp, joint practices, and preseason games.
Not everything has been pretty, not everything has been perfect, but for the boxes that I wanted to see Cam Ward check
and the way that he checked those boxes, I don't know how you could look at what Cam Ward has done so far and not been like,
okay, my faith that this guy is going to be a franchise changer, that this guy is going to change my team fundamentally.
My confidence in that being true is way higher than it was going into this last few weeks.
Like what I've seen from Cam so far has confirmed everything
and again there's three main things
that I want to hit on that have me so excited about Cam Ward
and number one we start with the leadership
all field leadership
him being with all of the guys and all those videos
with the Titans when all the rookies are out doing challenges
eating hot chicken and doing all these different things
he's always there Cam Ward's always with the guys
he's always one of those dudes
and being one of the guys allows you to be someone who can lead
the guys. Like to me, a leader is not someone who just tells other people what to do.
A leader is someone who leads you there. They don't just give instructions. They are
actively helping you row the boat forward. And Cam is one of those guys and he feels like
one of those guys. He doesn't feel like he's bigger than the team and all of that to the team.
Not only that, but we've seen flashes of the leadership in other ways. The 5 a.m. showing up
to watch film and bringing all the guys with him. He's showing up at the facility seven hours
early before a game to get comfortable and all that stuff.
That just, it just sets the precedent of
my starting quarterback is doing these things.
Do you think that I'm going to be able to keep my job
or be respected in the locker room if I'm not doing these things?
That's instant, immediate leadership right there.
So the leadership, the work ethic,
the picture of him with the guys motivating the team
after the bad practice in Atlanta, like he just has it.
He has the it factor.
And speaking of the it factor, we go from the off-field leadership to the on-field intangibles.
The on-field intangibles are absolutely critical.
Look at Cam Ward out there.
And look, I don't want to bash Will Levis, but I cover the Titans, and that's what I see the most.
And Will Levis' happy feet in the pocket when the bullets started flying, it was his worst trait.
He just could not control his body.
When things got out of control, he looked wildly out of control the entire time.
Cam Ward looks perfectly in control.
where Ward looks calm, cool, and collected.
When the bullets start flying, he never looks out of control or out of place.
He's Neo in the Matrix. He's the one.
He just, the bullets are flying, and he's seeing it in slow motion.
I know it's just preseason, but that's already what we see from Cam Ward.
And there are a lot of players out there who don't look like that in the preseason either.
Okay?
So that looks like it translates.
And you look at the adversity that he's gone through on the field.
It's not like the Titans have the best offensive system in the world.
Can you really trust Brian Callahan right now?
And on tomorrow's show, I might talk about the things that I'm least confident in with this team.
Titans may have practice, though.
I don't know how that's going to work quite yet, but if there's practice,
I'll be here to cover practice.
If not, we'll talk about my least confident things.
But either way, you're dealing with Brian Callahan, and we might talk about it tomorrow if we have time.
If you watch the Kurt Warner breakdown of Cam Ward snaps,
he kind of
didn't seem like a very big fan
of the coaching of Brian Callahan
and how he's coaching his young wide receivers
and his route development.
Again, we might talk about that tomorrow
but Cam Ward's dealing with that.
It's not like Cam Ward has the best weapons in the NFL.
I'm very confident in the offensive line though.
I think that does give Cam Ward a chance
and we'll talk about them at the end of the show.
But, you know, it's not like Cam Ward is in the best environment
of all time.
So he's dealing with that.
And then in the games,
penalties,
drops.
It's third and nine
completion to Chig.
It's third and six in the red zone
completion to Tyler Lockett.
It's first and 20 after a penalty.
I'm going to complete two passes
to Calvin Ridley, my best target
and we're going to get a first down.
Cam Ward has been able to
showcase his on-field
intangibles by overcoming
the adversity.
And not only that, we talk about
CoolCom collected, in control.
And that's also displayed
with the procedural stuff.
The offense hasn't looked unprofessional.
They don't, you know, not know where to line up.
They're not having delay of games.
They're not having illegal motion.
They're not having an illegal procedure.
They don't have people lined up off the line of scrimmage
or should I go in motion?
Should I not go in motion?
Should I line up here?
No, you need to line up there.
But there's not a lot of confusion out there
in the operational aspect
of the pre-snap offense.
Cam Ward looks in control of the offense.
so outside of the leadership
outside of the on-field intangibles
then we have the on-field talent
and to see him throw with arm angles
the velocity
that dot to Van Jefferson
those outrouts
to Calvin Ridley
drilling those passes home over the middle
of the field
I know that the first third down screen
the linebacker got back and made it hard on Cam Ward
but
seeing those arm angles
and how quickly he can release the ball
and get it out
and we didn't just get him in the pocket
he was able to get out of the pocket
make some throws on the run
like all of the on-field talent
that you wanted to see from Cam Ward
we saw it already
we saw what he's capable of already
and consistency will be key going forward
consistency will be key
but whether it's the leadership qualities
that have been displayed all long
whether it's the on field
intangibles of composure and calmness
or whether it's the on-field playmaking talent
with the armed talent involved
every single aspect of what I wanted to see from Cam Ward
I've seen so far and you guys know the truth
I will find a way to nitpick something
I know it you know it we can all be real
I will find a way
and I got to tell you at this juncture where we're at
I could, you know, I could find a problem with the sunshine.
I got really nothing bad to say about Cam Ward after no turnover
worthy plays in that second preseason game.
He's learning on the fly, he's checked every box.
I could not be more confident in Cam Ward at this point.
And I'm confident in his rookie weapons as well.

Let's continue today's edition of Locked on Titans
We talked about my confidence in Cam Ward being at an all-time high
But now I want to talk about the confidence that I have in the Titans rookie weapons
and why the Titans need to have more confidence in their rookie weapons.
We'll also talk about the offensive line at the end of today's show.
Before we continue, though, I do want to thank you again
for making Locked on Titans.
You're at first listen each and every day.
But the rookie weapons showed out a little bit, a couple of them,
in that game against the Atlanta Falcons.
And here's the reality.
The Titans need to play these rookie guys even more than they are planning to right now.
I know that the rookie weapons were already going to play a big role
especially on this offense
guys like Alec I O Manor and Chim DK at wide receiver Gunner Helm on offense
they were all right Gunner Helmut tied in
obviously he's on offense but they were already going to play a massive role
no doubt they were going to be massive role players
but I think we're to the point now
where the confidence in those rookie weapons
should be so much higher
to the point where we don't need to phase them in slow
anymore. And here's what I mean. Let's start with Elico
Manor. Elk Io Manor, like I have been saying since he was drafted, should be the Tennessee
Titan starting X pretty quickly. The only person who he could compete with is Van
Jefferson. Van Jefferson is the only guy big enough out of Tyler Lockett, Calvin Ridley,
and Van Jefferson. He's the only one big enough to play the X receiver spot.
Van Jefferson has versatility to play the slot or the Z.
as well as X?
I don't think that's what I-O-Manor should be focused on.
I think he should be purely focused on the X wide receiver position
and doing as good as he could possibly do at that spot
and then once he's super confident, comfortable there,
then we can start moving him around.
So what makes the most sense?
Starting E.O. Manor at X.
I'm not saying he has to play every single snap
and Van Jefferson cannot play any at X.
but Van Jefferson needs to be used as the utility infielder
who spells Tyler Lockett in the slot
if they want a bigger body because they're going to run a run play or a screen
who spells Calvin Ridley on early downs
to make sure Calvin Ridley can get a breather
and he can be out there if they're running the ball since he's a bigger guy
who spells Elicio Manor or a rookie
when he's just going through rookie doldrums
or just needs a break anyway because you don't want to push the rookie too hard too soon
but Elykeio Manor should be the starter
Ellic I.O. Manor should play more than Van Jefferson.
And I know that one drop from Van Jefferson doesn't mean that, you know, this and that.
But here's the reality.
He had what you could call a drop in the first game on the very first throw.
I wouldn't call it that. I'd call it a P.B.U.
But a lot of you guys are more unrelenting than me when it comes to defending Cam Ward and the mistakes others are making.
That was a bad drop in the game against the Falcons.
and what made me more mad
I'll be honest with you
and if this doesn't
make you a little salty
when you hear it
I don't know what else to say
but Van Jefferson
blamed Cam Ward
Van Jefferson said the ball
was a little too far out in front of him
the ball was perfect
and Cam Ward
again leader
Cam Ward said
you know, yeah, he's right.
I got to hit him in the chest next time.
Got to hit him in the chest next time.
And it's absurd.
And then Brian Callahan, when he was asked about it,
was like, that was an incredible throw by Cam.
I'm glad he's taking accountability,
but, yeah, that's a drop, Van Jefferson.
Your head coach knows it.
And it just rubbed me the wrong way, man.
It just rubs me the wrong way.
that Van Jefferson
the guy who has been a journeyman in the NFL
never a true starting level talent
out of one good year in the RAM system
where Sean McVe makes everyone look good
a guy who does not in my opinion
have the right at all
to put the blame on Cam Ward for that
I was taught
I was taught in life
be a thumb pointer
not a finger pointer
yeah
this guy and that guy and this guy
maybe they made mistakes maybe their mistakes are worse
but figure out what you could have done better
before you start throwing stones
in your glass house
some sort of something like that
but the point is it just
I'm not going to lie
it made me mad
to hear Van Jefferson blamed Cam Ward
for that behind the scenes
and then Cam Ward went out and took accountability
good on Cam
bad on Van
I don't care if he doesn't play at all
but anyway there's no reason for him to play more
that Alec Ayo Manor at this point
I.O. Manor has infinitely more potential, has more talent,
and gives you the same size and more speed.
Did you see I.O. Manor catch the ball and think about Van Jefferson.
Come on. Let's be real here.
So, I'm more confident, super confident right now
that I.O. can be the starting X over Van Jefferson
and the Titans need to do it than I was before.
similarly with Gunner Helm
my confidence in Gunner Helm being
tight end one
that was one of my hot takes
of the all season one of my bold predictions
is that Gunner Helm would be
tight end one for the Titans and Snaps this year
I don't think it's that bold of a prediction
I don't think that it's that much of a hot take
anymore
we know what he can do
what we thought these guys could do
in college they have done whether it's a down block
where you fall to your knees
but continue to gain leverage
and execute the block on the goal line
to allow Tony Poller to score a touchdown,
whether it's a seam route
down the middle of the field for about 30, 40 yards
that you catch over top of two defensive backs for the Falcons.
Gunner Helm is who we thought he was.
He is who we thought he was.
And I think he's a better player than Chick-a-Conquo right now.
Chick is more explosive.
Chig should not be phased out.
Chick-a-conquo should be used consistently
in the offense as a playmaker.
but I think Gunner Helm is better right now
right now is the better tied in
and I would play him more than I expected to
going into training camp
and whatever the Titans wanted to do with Gunner Helm
they need to play him more
I'm that confident in the rookies here
now some other guys who I want to hit on quickly
Chim Dek
I can't say that he did anything crazy
but I have had better expectations
for IO and Helm the entire time
So, Jim D.K. coming along a little slowly because the guy who didn't run a diverse route churie at Florida,
I'm not shocked by that.
That's why I wasn't as hype about that pick as I was Gunner Helm and Elykeyeo Manor.
And let me say this before we move on to non-wide receivers or people who catch passes.
I understand why the Tennessee Titans would keep James Prochet over Xavier Restores.
He's going to be the punt returner. James Prochay has done pretty good as a wide receiver too.
I get it. I totally get it. I get why the Titans are going to keep Bryce Oliver over Xavier Restrepo.
He's a good gunner, good on special teams coverage, can play all the wide receiver positions, be your new NWI.
I get it. I get it.
But keeping, when we look back in two years, when we look at, when we look at,
back in two years
and we say
the Titans kept James Proche,
Van Jefferson, and Bryce Oliver
instead of Xavier Restrepo
I'm sorry but that's going to look like a mistake.
I get why
right now, the way that it looks right now
and the decision the Titans are faced with
right now.
I get why that is the right
decision for them right now.
But I'm sorry, there's no
way that
we don't look back at this
if they don't keep Xavier Restrepo
two catches, 14 yards
he did exactly what I thought he could do
out there. If they
don't keep him, we're going to feel dumb about it
in a few years. Again, I don't think he's going to be a Monross
St. Brown. He's probably just going to turn into a solid
third down slot guy who's a good
depth player, a fourth or fifth receiver
for a team who plays a specific role.
But that role is so valuable
and would be so valuable to Cam Ward.
We are talking about Van Jefferson, Bryce Oliver, and James Proche.
Again, I understand their value to the team right now.
But this is a rebuilding football team
that might not win a ton of games this year,
and I'm sorry, but I am much more confident
in keeping Xavier Restrepo being the better move
and not letting him go to another team
than I am dropping him and letting another team pick him up
and him go somewhere else and get a chance.
It just, I'm telling you,
I get the reasons why you don't have to sell me.
I know why the Titans coaching staff
would make that decision,
but I just think it's short-sighted.
It's short-sighted.
Now, Jackson Slater has been moving bodies
in the run game,
in the second string and third-string lines.
Like to see that.
Excited about him being a piece next year for the Titans.
Femiola-Dazio, I still believe,
will be a great contributor on early downs.
I don't think he's going to help much in the past rush,
but we knew that all along.
And Marcus Harris and Kevin Winston
in the secondary.
Marcus Harris had a pretty good game against the Atlanta Falcons.
I might do a special little breakdown on him at the end of the week
that I didn't have planned initially in my three film breakdowns
that I'm going to work on first.
Cam Ward's already out.
If you miss my Cam Ward film breakdown,
check that out on the Tick-Tac Titans film channel.
Marcus Harris and Kevin Winston may not be great right away,
but I think they could certainly be contributors, Kevin Winston especially.
Kevin Winston could start over Xavier Woods by the end of the year.
I think Marcus Harris could take over for Darrow Baker Jr.,
which you might be doing already,
but I think both those guys could be contributors.
So my confidence in the Tennessee Titans rookie class
is also very, very high and one of the things I'm most confident about
with this football team.
And the last thing that I want to talk about is the offensive line,
which feels pretty good to say.

Today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
We talked about the things I'm most confident in.
On today's show, we talked Cam Ward, we talked the rookie class.
Now I want to talk about the Tennessee Titans offensive line.
Because the offensive line has been a massive issue, a massive, massive issue.
for years.
For years.
I mean, since 2021, and even in 2021,
the offense wasn't good.
The Titans were just winning games,
and the O-line wasn't that good,
but they were just finding a way to get it done.
But, I mean, it's been a long time
since the Titans have had a good offensive line.
And I've got to tell you,
I am as confident in this offensive line
as I have been since 2020, since 2020.
ESPN ranked this Titans' offensive line number five in the NFL.
Now, I think that's a bit generous, but the point remains
that the offensive line talent has been upgraded in a major way.
Dan Moore is way better than Nicholas Petit Ferreira.
Worth his contract remains to be seen.
But he's way better than Nicholas Petit Farer.
Dennis Daley, Andre Dillard.
Way better. Way better than that.
And Dan Moore's fine.
Came back in the game, got rolled up on a little bit.
Dan Moore's fine. No need to worry.
Peter Skoronski looks like an absolute phenol.
The last six weeks of the season,
Peter Skironsky was the best pass protecting guard in the entire NFL.
And the entire NFL.
And he looks just as good this preseason.
It has not been hard for him.
He's getting the job done and it doesn't look very difficult.
Could not be more excited about Peter Skoransky this season.
We talked about, I talked about.
A lot of people hated the pick.
But I talked about how Peter Skoronsky could turn into a pro-bowl level guard.
We need that at number 11.
But I think he could be an all-pro-level guard.
And we could see an all-pro-level season for Peter Skronsky.
this year at Left Guard, and the Titans need it.
And what I love is, when you watch the tape
and what the Titans have done with Skoronsky,
he is like their primary puller.
He wants, they want
Peter Skoronsky to be on the move,
leading through holes, kicking out guys on the run,
dominating defensive backs who come up in the hole too early.
Like, Peter Skoronsky looks great,
and the Titans look like they know how they want to use him.
Lloyd Cushenberry did individual work
and dressed for the game.
Lloyd Cushenberry is expected to get
back out at practice this week.
Lloyd Cushenberry might do team drills
at practice this week.
The plan is for him to be ready
for week one. He is on track. And even
if he's not ready for week one, I would imagine
he wants to be ready for week one because they play Denver
in Denver and he wants to go back to where he was from
and, you know, revenge game it.
But even if not,
second week at home against the Rams,
tough matchup against a defensive line of the Rams, bring him
back then. Either way, Cush is going to be
back sooner than later.
and even if he's not playing his best
or something happens or whatever
you know that you have a decent depth
with Corey Levin.
And then of course
Kevin Zitler has been the biggest mystery
on the offensive line.
I just put a question mark.
I'm very confident in the offensive line
but it's not because I'm confident
in anything I've seen with them
with Kevin Zitler who hasn't really participated in anything.
Zitler's an older guy, I get it.
He's a veteran player.
But there haven't been rave reviews
about Kevin Zitler coming out of training camp
when he has participated.
and him not playing in the preseason and not getting ramped up
and not being ready to go,
that could be a major concern come week one
when you play against a great Broncos defensive line
that led the NFL in sex.
But if Kevin Zeitler, a 35-year-old veteran
who's been one of the better guards in the NFL for quite some time now,
if that's my biggest concern and my biggest question
on the Tennessee Titans' offensive line going into the season,
folks, we won.
Because we get the right tackle.
A J.C. Latham looks dominant.
Dominant.
I kept calling him lockout Latham
when I did my offensive line film breakdown,
which if you missed it, I put it out on Friday,
Tennessee Titans' offensive line film breakdown
on the Tick-Tac Titans YouTube channel
from their performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
But it looks exactly how we want it to look.
And that is so critical for Cam Ward
because I talked about this.
You can't have a crappy wide receiver group.
You can't have an uncertain running back rotation.
You can't have a head coach who you can't be certain that he's a good head coach.
You can't have all of that and a crap offensive line.
And what looks to maybe be a bad defense.
Defense does not look good.
Can't have all that and have any success.
A good offensive line will at least keep Cam Ward healthy.
keep him protected, give him an opportunity he uses playmaking,
and when he can use his playmaking,
that's going to help wide receivers who can't get open,
get more open because now you're in a say-in-lott situation.
That's why Baltimore's wide receivers
always have really good separation data,
because Lamar Jackson can run around
and they get open because now it's not normal routes
and defense and playing zone.
Now everything's squirly.
So if the offensive line is good,
that gives Cam Ward the ability to tap into that more,
which helps compensate for the bad wide receiver group.
So I'm confident that this offensive line can protect Cam.
I'm confident that this offensive line, top five maybe, maybe pushing it.
You know what I mean? Top five may be pushing it.
Thanks though, ESPN.
Appreciate that.
A little confidence and optimism for the Titans.
But if the Titans have a top 10 offensive line,
even that, even that is great, great, great news.
And I'm confident, I am confident that,
we'll get that level of play from them.
But with that being said, again, tomorrow,
if the Titans have practice, I'll be here to break it down.
If practice isn't open to media,
then we'll talk about the things that I'm least confident in
for the Titans going forward.
But practice on Tuesday is open.
Practice on Wednesday is open for sure.
I'll be here to break stuff down after that.
Thursday, game preview, Friday, game recap live after the game.
