Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans CARNELL TATE MOCK DRAFTS: Supporting Cam Ward EARLY in NFL Draft & Best Day 2 Fit
Episode Date: April 15, 2026The Tennessee Titans could decide to support Cam Ward with a wide receiver in round one of the NFL Draft and the only guy that can logically go that high is Carnell Tate. Tate makes a ton of sense and... fits perfectly with what Ward needs to improve. However, going receiver so early not only means they miss out on Jeremiyah Love, but it also creates tough value plays going forward. If offensive line must be addressed and on defense, linebacker and edge, need to be addressed as well. Adding to all the spots you need simply isn't possible if you start with Tate, but the Titans can try their best. The Tennessee Titans need to support Cam Ward in the NFL draft.
That could look like Cornell Tate at number four.
But what would happen after to make it work?
I'll show you in today's mock draft edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked on
podcast network, your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast.
I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans on today's show.
We are going to look at three different three-round mock drafts for the Tennessee Titans
that all start with Carnell Tate, the Ohio Statewide receiver at the top,
which different path would be the best path for the Tennessee Titans.
You get to decide.
Let me know down below in the comments.
Hit me up on social media.
Let me know which of these three mock drafts with Carnell Tate at the top are your favorite
and the winner will advance to our final competition where we'll be.
look at the best mock draft starting with all these different players.
But Cornell Tate sets up interesting paths for the Titans.
Before we dive into them though, do want to thank you for making locked on Titans.

and great analysis once the draft actually gets here, make sure that you stay locked in
with the number one Tennessee Titans podcast in the world locked on Titans.
But with that being said, again, Carnell Tate could be an option for the Tennessee Titans.
I think he is the fourth most likely option for the Titans.
If I'm doing an honest ranking here, I think it's one of the edge rushers, Jeremiah Love,
Sonny Stiles, and then Carnell Tate, but I know that there are all.
lot of people who are heavy believers that the titans should be taking Tate more seriously
at number four and at the end of the day, maybe they are.
Maybe the Titans behind the scenes do actually want Carnell Tate and the reason that we haven't
heard more buzz about it is because they've simply been trying to keep it quiet.
Again, he would be my fourth option out of all of these in terms of likelihoodness.
But at the end of the day, what Cornell Tate brings to the table is exactly what Cam Ward needs.
I've talked about this. He's 6 foot to 193 pounds.
gets downfield vertically, great catch radius, makes big time catches over top of people
in contested situations, he's literally elite at that trait.
And Cam Ward, we know his biggest struggle came when throwing down the field vertically,
especially down the sidelines.
And what are the Titans desperately need?
They need a taller, bigger, boundary-wide receiver.
Them and Elic I.O. Manor could fill those roles theory if that's Carnell Tate.
So there are a lot of reasons why it fits.
And everybody talks again about supporting Cam Ward.
We need to support Cam Ward in the NFL draft.
When are we going to support a young quarterback and make it work?
So if you feel like that, say Jeremiah Love goes number three to the Arizona Cardinals.
Say it goes Fernando Mendoza, David Bailey, Jeremiah Love.
Do you want R. Val Reese or do you want to support your young quarterback?
Do you want Sonny Stiles or do you want to support your young quarterback?
Ask yourself that question.
So, do I think that Tate will be the picket for?
No, I don't.
But if the board went, Bailey Love,
and the Titans had the choice between taking Arvel Reese,
who would be who I would choose.
I would take Arvel Reese there.
But Arvel Reese is a project, right?
Can you afford to take that kind of project if you're the Tennessee Titans?
My answer is yes, I'd take Arvel Reese.
But if the Titans said, no, we can't do that.
I don't know that I would blame them.
you take Sonny Stiles, that's a linebacker non-premium,
what if they just help their young quarterback with a potential?
I don't believe that he is.
But maybe they believe that he's a number one wide receiver in the NFL.
Could you really turn down a number one wide receiver for your young quarterback
if you thought that of Carnell Tate?
So would it be crazy to see them actually take Carnell Tate?
No, I think it's still within the logical possibilities,
even if it isn't the likely possibility.
So what would it look like after Carnell Tate?
Well, if you do have a wide receiver on the board, you get the number 35.
My options were Cassius Howe, Zion Young, Malachi Lawrence at Edge Rusher,
Max Ina CORE at Offensive Tackle, all three of the primary guards that we've been talking about,
Pregnone, Vesantus, Rutledge, on the board.
And out of that group of great players, guys, I got to tell you,
and I'm going to keep hammering this,
I just think that edge rusher is a much bigger need on the board for the Titans than people realize.
They do not have that starting speed rusher.
They don't have anybody on the team.
They can get to the quarterback in two seconds flat with their getoff.
I mean, Jeffrey Simmons can get to the quarterback very quickly,
as we saw the sack of C.J. Stroud against the Houston Texans
where he just burst through the line with the swim move and threw him down.
But again, that wide nine edge that Robert Sala wants in his defense,
that has speed off the line of scrimmage to push that quarterback into the other pocket pushers.
they don't have it.
Jacob Martin,
I'm sorry,
Jermaine Johnson's not that guy, in my opinion.
He is a power rusher and effort rusher.
Him and Femiola Dejo can be the same thing,
and I hope that Femi learns a lot from Jermaine Johnson.
Jermaine Johnson slips into a tertiary edge rusher role
after the season with Femi as the main power edge rusher starter.
And then the Titans have a certified alpha speed rusher
at some point in time.
That's what we could hope for.
And I think someone who could be that is Malachi.
Lawrence. So I had to go with Malachi
Lawrence at 35. You guys know at this point,
I'm a huge fan. Great length,
great get off off the line of scrimmage.
Absolutely fierce and tenacious.
You know, has every move that you want.
That's what I'm looking for.
So I think Malachi Lawrence goes in the first round.
When I do my mock draft next Thursday morning for you guys,
I'm going to have Lawrence going in the first round.
So there's a chance though that he falls if wide receivers
and offensive tackles go heavy.
there at the end of the first round.
It pushes the edge rushers.
It pushes the guards down.
Maybe the guards go.
It's going to push either wide receivers
or edge rushers down.
And I think that offensive line and wide receiver
will end up going at the end of the first round
pushing the edge rushers down a little bit more.
And I think the Titans take Malachi Lawrence there,
which brings us to the third round.
So we have Carnell Tate, we have Malachi Lawrence.
I think we just had our two biggest needs on the team.
The Titans, two biggest needs at premium positions, long term,
are wide receiver and edge rusher, and we just hit both of them.
So I feel pretty good about that,
and they're still offensive line depth on the board.
All right, especially at center.
So then we get to 66, and unfortunately, all the three guards that I like are gone.
Which I think they're going to be way gone before 66,
but in the mock draft simulator that I use every single time for consistent,
all three of the good guards are gone. Jennings Dunker is gone so I could maybe add him in as a
fourth guard, all gone. I don't want to take any of the centers. They're all there. I've talked about this.
I'm taking a center at 101. That's where I want to take a center. I'll take one at 101. I'll trade up
with 142 and 144 and get into the 120s and take center three or four. There's seven or eight
centers that I like and they're all still on the board. I'm not going to do that. So I went for some value.
Jeremiah Trotter, trading Stooks, the linebacker and the safety, defensive back, respectively.
I think they're both guys who can make sense for the Titans.
Trotter is that Mike linebacker plays with violence.
Stukes as that nickel back, versatile guy in the secondary who can do a little bit of everything.
I think Stoops is a guy they like.
They brought them in for a visit.
I think it's to check the medicals.
Make sure everything's good there because they are interested.
I think they may look for a nickel like that.
but instead
everybody wants Jeremiah
I love they want an explosive running back
so what I did at 66
I took Mike Washington
all right
the running back out of Arkansas
so we got Cornell Tate
Malachi Lawrence and Mike
Washington so we get that explosive running back
to get into the backfield eventually take over
for Tony Pollard maybe we even trade
Tony Pollard for a day three pick
and recoup a little bit there
maybe we would trade Tony Pollard for, you know,
another fifth round pick,
and then we put those two together and move up into the 120s,
not unlike what the Titans did last year.
So with hitting wide receiver,
hit an edge,
getting a playmaking running back,
we kind of hit some good stuff,
and we get to pick 101,
and we get a starting center.
We bring back Kevin Zitler at guard.
We're looking pretty good, right?
We got our starting speed rusher to rotate with Jacob Martin.
Isn't asked to play on rundowns early on as they develop.
We got our X wide receiver and our deep threat for Cam
and support our quarterback.
We got a playmaking running back in the backfield who I think is awesome,
my running back too in the class.
So we're helping Cam Ward with explosive playmakers on offense.
We get a guy who can be an explosive playmaker on defense
and fills our biggest need on defense.
We still have the ability to get a starting offensive lineman.
And then we get depth on day three at linebacker,
cornerback, safety, tight end, those positions.
I think we're in a pretty good spot with that mock draft.
So that's mock draft number one with Carnell Tate,
Carnell Tate, Malachi Lawrence, Mike Washington.
But I think, I think mock draft number two with Carnell Tate
might be the one that wins the vote.
Can't wait to see who you guys vote for in this one.

Let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
Again, we're looking at mock drafts that start with Carnell Tate at four.
I think he's the fourth most likely option.
But if you want to see your quarterback supported and Jeremiah Love goes off the board at three,
Carnell Tate could be a likely option that the Titans will have to consider.
We just did Carnell Tate mock draft number one with Malachi Lawrence,
the edge in the second round, and then Mike Washington,
back in the third round, but now I want to hit offensive line a little bit earlier than we did
in that recent mock draft. And that seems to be pretty popular with most of you guys in the
comments on social media who are commenting on the posts and the graphics that I'm putting
out there for the votes. Anytime that I hit offensive line in the second round, it seems to be
one that people like quite a bit. And that's what I'm going to do here. So we get Cardnell
Tate on the board. Supporting your young quarterback means more than playmakers. It means
offensive line as well. And I don't know at this stage, actually I feel pretty confident when I say this,
that Emmanuel Pregnone, Chase Bessontas, Keylon Rutledge, Jennings Dunker, none of those four are going to be on the board at 66.
I just don't believe that that's true. I hope so. You know, clip it. I don't care. I hope I'm wrong.
I hope the Titans can get one of those quality guards in the second tier of guards.
I hope that they can get one of those guys at 66.
That would be magical.
You get Jeremiah Love or Sunny Stiles or one of the edge rushers.
You can follow that up with, you know, one or the other.
Get one of those guards at 66,
but I just don't think that that's going to happen.
That would give the Titans a luxury pick.
And I don't think it, because that would be pushing offensive linemen down the board.
And at that point, I think you could probably get a center
by trading back up into the fifth round rather than having to use 101.
on it. You would be able to maybe trade back from 101 into the 120s,
collect some future capital next year, maybe a third round or next year,
and then a fifth rounder this year, something like that.
Give yourself an extra pick in the 140s, 150s somewhere, move back to 120.
Tons of possibilities.
But if you want one of those real quality guards,
I think it's going to have to happen at 35.
So I had options.
Zion Young, Cassius Howe,
Colton Hood, Chris Johnson's still on the board.
Oh, man, that was enticing.
But I got to tell you, I think I was wrong about the Titans wanting a boundary corner.
I think they want more of a slot corner in this draft.
And there are some good ones.
So we'll talk about one here in a little bit.
But, so I couldn't go with Boundary Corner and Hood or Johnson.
Although I think they may be best player on the board at that point.
Hood and Johnson could be first round cornerbacks, in my opinion.
The three guards were still all on the board, so I didn't want to take any chances.
I went and I got Chase Bessantis.
I think the Titans could be very interested in Bissontas.
I got to tell you that I think Emmanuel Pregnone
would be the better fit than Bessantis.
I think Kieland Rutledge would be a better fit than Bessantis.
But I might be wrong.
Like that's the one thing about my shows and everything, you know,
everybody's in my comments all the time like love or bust,
they're not taking him, blah, blah, blah.
I just like to examine all the scenarios.
Because that's when you find the answers
and that's when you're prepared for whatever,
ever could happen. So I always like to
look at Carnell Tate mock draft,
Sunny Stiles, we don't know what they're going to do.
So examining all possibilities,
I think at least, if I were on the
other side of this, that's what I want.
Just go over everything that's possible for the Titans
and what it would look like. That's what's
most fun for me. Examining the scenarios.
And I think
that the scenario
that could play out as the Titans
end up liking Chase Pissontas better than I like him.
He's a little bit more mobile than Rutledge
or Pregnone got a little bit better
feet, very technical with the hands. Again, I compared him and I've seen comparisons to Peter Skoransky.
So if you want guards on either side that are really good pass protectors, very technical with their hands,
very quick with their feet that may not be the biggest, mauliest drive anchor type guys.
And you want them even so you can do anything either direction, they have similar skill sets,
then you take them.
Bessantis is that guy
So I think Chase Bessantis
could make a ton of sense
and if Keelon Ruttledge goes as high as it sounds like
you know, Ruttledge could be off the board already
and then you're left with Brasanta
Bissontas and Pregnone
And I guess I can accept the fact
that I may be wrong about pregnone's fit
even though he looks like a pure gap guy to me
I know that
Dable is going to be multiple in his run scheme
but at the end of the day,
I think there's going to be more gap runs,
which if they get Jeremiah Love,
he's, I mean, he could do anything.
He can play in zone, sure,
but he's really good in gap schemes
because the pullers and the blocks
kind of set up patiently.
With zone blocking, the running back is just going
until he sees the hole that he likes,
and the guys, you're just supposed to run your feet the whole time.
Get to your gap, get to your zone,
get to, you know, and just run your feet.
Take whoever's there.
but in gap blocking
which is think about like down blocks and pullers
counter power
you got to kind of wait for the pullers
to hit there may be a down block combo
and then the tackle gets up to the linebacker
and you got to be just patient enough
to where the linebacker doesn't shoot
before the tackle gets up to him
and you just wait patiently set your feet
do a little fake cut and then cut back right as the pooler
and then you got a butt right here and a butt right here
and you get right through both of them, you know what I mean?
That is, that's patient gap running.
And that's what Jeremiah Love does absolutely best.
So if you, if that's my read of Brian Dable's offense
for my study of him and my understanding,
if that's what they're going to do,
then Pregnone would be the best fit.
But again, I could be wrong.
So acknowledging that, I went with Chase Pesontas.
So we start Carnel Tate, Chase Pasantas.
that's one way to support your quarterback.
It may not be as flashy as Mike Washington
and the third and Carnell Tate in the first,
running back and wide receiver.
But one could argue that is the better way
to support your quarterback.
Now, you guys know me, I just said it in the last segment.
I can't turn down edge rusher too long.
So we get the 66 and I'm like,
Mike Washington's still on the board.
That would be all offense.
That would be interesting.
Trading Stoakes.
a guy who, again, I said earlier,
the Titans are interested in, had a meeting with
would be that versatile slot type guy.
There are some edge rushers on the board
like the Joshua Josephs,
Kieran Crawford,
J. Sean Barham type,
but the edge rusher that I'm most interested in
in that group is Ramello height.
I took Ramello height.
I couldn't pass up on edge rusher anymore, okay?
6 foot two,
240 pounds, 32 and a quarter inch arms.
So a little bit longer arms than some of the other undersized guy
like R. Mason Thomas has 31 and 3 4th inch arms.
Cassius Howe has 30 and a quarter inch arms.
Really small.
So Ramello height, a little bit longer arms than those guys
which could make him more palatable.
He's still a speed rusher with great get-off, really quick feet,
can do speed to power, very feisty, intense player,
really hard worker behind the scenes as well.
We'll chase you down backside a little better in the run game.
He's just an older prospect at 25 years old.
But here's the thing.
The Titans in round three,
it's not like you're picking in round one
where you want to get eight to nine years out of these guys.
If you get a really good player,
speed rusher, for four years until they're 29 years old
in the third round, that's fine.
We're going to take another edge rusher again soon.
Like the Titans could take an edge rusher in the first round next year
if they get the right guy.
There's some good guys.
They still need an alpha number one edge rusher.
But I think Ramello height would be a great pick at 66.
So if we go offense with Carnell Tate and we go Chase Bessont to Sack Guard
and we support Cam Ward early, then we're coming back and we're hitting the biggest need on the defensive side of the ball.
And that's Ramello height.
And I think out of these undersized speed rushers that can line up super wide, get off the ball,
get to the line of scrimmage like, you know, Malachi Lawrence,
who's a little bit bigger than these other guys,
is why I like him so much.
Cash is how.
R. Mello High.
R. Mason Thomas.
You could maybe even put Joshua Josephs in there.
But I think that taking Joshua Josephson
the third round may be maybe a mistake on my part.
I think he's going to end up being more in the 100 to 120 range.
He's like this year is Braden Swinson for me.
I thought Swinson was going to go so high in the draft.
I thought he was so good.
And he didn't get taken until like the 120s by the Patriots
and may not even be a factor.
I think that Joshua Joseph's could be a guy like that.
But I really like this combination.
I think this is probably my favorite combination of the two.
Carnell Tate, Chase Passantis, and Ramello Hype.
But what if the Titans went offensive line,
but not guard at pick 35?
I think that that is,
if the Titans trade down in the first round,
I think that take an offensive tackle is squarely on the board,
which means that they're certainly interested in some of these guys anyway.
So let's talk about what that would look like.

With that being said,
we move to our third and final
Carnel Tate mock draft. We are going to do
trade down mock drafts later on tonight.
So make sure that you come back and check that out
and then we'll have our five advancees
and they will face off tomorrow for mock draft supremacy
for the Titans. But with that being said,
at pick number 35,
Colton Hood's still on the board,
the guard's still on the board,
Edge was a little run down,
Gabe Jackus was on the board.
That could have been an option for me. But I've got to tell you,
I don't know if the Titans would be able to pass up at pick 35.
Max, I and a core.
Ian Accor, actually.
Sorry, there you go.
But the offensive tackle out of Arizona State, 6 foot 5, 315 pounds,
long arms, great feet, good athlete, started playing football late in his career.
I just think that he is the perfect kind of project.
I don't really even think he's a project.
He could play right now.
if they needed him to.
But I think,
I say he's a project
because he just started playing football
a couple of years ago,
but if you look at some of the best edge rushers
in college football,
he gave them their biggest struggles.
Right?
He's a good enough athlete to stay with
some of these speedy edge rushers like David Bailey.
He can deal with the power
because he's got good core strength.
He's built thick, built solid.
If one of these really good offensive tackles,
again,
Maxi and Accor, Blake Miller,
Caden Proctor, Caleb Loomu,
Monroe Freeling, no way.
But, speaking of Monroe Freeling,
I think he would be very interesting
for the Titans in another scenario
that we might talk about later tonight.
But I really do think that the Titans may get ahead of it
with offensive tackle.
I don't think that it's crazy.
And if they were to trade down in the first round,
collect an extra top 100 pick,
you hit edge, you hit wide receiver,
you hit offensive line,
you got one luxury pick.
Is that going to go to cornerback?
Is that going to go to running back?
Is that going to go to tight end?
Is that going to go to cornerback?
Or is it going to go to offensive tackle?
Because Dan Moore
not worth the money that they had to pay
and they knew it.
They know that.
J.C. Latham has had his struggles.
It's never bad to have a surplus of offensive tackles.
So I just think offensive tackle.
in the top 100 is more realistic than you think.
And when you look at the value that could be available
in the top 100 offensive tackle,
it's basically pick 35 and up to 1.
It's nowhere else.
It's not a good offensive tackle class.
There's, again, Malanoa, Fano,
Fon-O, Freeling,
Miller, Proctor,
Lumoo,
Anacor,
After that, that's seven.
After that, there's a major drop-off.
And you've got to go down to like Caleb Tiernan.
You know what I mean?
I don't, you know, Demetrius Crownover,
who, Austin Barber, who the Titans I've met with.
You know, so I think the Titans are like, hey,
we're interested in offensive tackle.
If one of these really good offensive tackle slip,
we'll take them.
But if not, then we'll look to,
to get offensive tackle early on day three.
I think, remember,
last year when the Titans went
wide receiver,
wide receiver, wide receiver, wide receiver,
wide receiver, wide receiver, wide receiver,
because it was DK and then Helm and then
Iowa Manor.
The Titans said, we're not using top picks
on those positions, but we're just
throwing a bunch of darts at playmakers
on offense early
on day three. We have a bunch of picks. We'll just
throw a bunch of darts. The Titans have two
fifths and two-sixth. They can
package those together and move up and be in the
120s and they can go
101
center
120
or tackle 140
guard. What if they went like
Jake Slaughter, Austin
Barber
and as Cooper
and just said,
we're going to throw a bunch of resources
at the offensive line here in the middle rounds.
One or two of these guys is going to turn into a starter.
If we get one out of three that turns into a starter,
like Iyo Manor, we'll see what he becomes.
Gunther Helm looks like a starter,
looks like a good player.
DK wasn't all pro as a rookie as a returner
and also showed some, it's like,
yeah, you threw three darts at it and one of them hit the bullseye.
One was good, one was,
We'll see.
So if you do that again at offensive line,
you're in a pretty good spot.
So again, I say that as a bigger conversation
about the offensive line in the draft,
but the point is I think that they're more interested
in taking an offensive tackle than people realize,
which leads me to Maxie and Accor
at pick 35 in the second round.
And then we get to the third round.
Could have went with edge rusher.
Could have went with the centers,
one of them, but they're still all on the board,
so no reason to take them there.
could have went with like Kyle Lewis at linebacker, for example,
Max Claire at Tide-N.
Some people think's tight-end too, still on the board.
But I went with Traden Stoops.
And again, we talked about him a little bit on earlier episodes.
We talked about him a little bit earlier on this episode.
He's a guy who met with the Titans.
And I think it tells us a lot about what they're looking for.
He was everything in college.
He played in the slot.
He could play at safety.
He could play outside at cornerback.
He's a playmaker with great ball skills,
really, really fast, four-three speed.
He's average side.
average length, has had injuries,
which is why I think the Titans probably brought him in
to do an injury check, medical check on him.
But he's an absolute playmaker,
and he could be that versatile chess piece
in the middle of Robert Sala's defense
that can play early down nickel,
then play safety with Kevin Winston
in the back end,
and you have so much speed at safety with Winston
and Stukes.
I don't think that Stukes actually makes it to 66.
It seems like teams like him
a lot more than to let him fall to 66.
but again, if the Titans were able to get their, you know, number one starting nickel,
off left tackle of the future,
and a number one wide receiver,
which would be possible with Tate and Accor and Stukes,
that could be a pretty good draft.
So again, mock draft number one for Carnell Tate is Carnell Tate, Malachi Lawrence, Mike Washington.
Cornell Tate number two is Carnell Tate, Chase Bessantis, Ramello Hight.
Carnell Tate number three is Carnell Tate, Maxie, and Accor, and Traden Stukes.
Let me know which one.
of those is your favorite down below or hit me up on social media.
I've been putting up different posts with the three different mock drafts as
pictures as well to allow you guys to vote there.
So either way, make sure that your voice is heard.
Who will advance?
And I'll be back later on tonight to do trade down mock drafts.
I have one with Dallas, one with Washington, and then one that happens in the second
round, very curious to see what you guys think about those mock drafts as well.
But with that being said, that's going to do it for me today, folks.
as always. I am your host, Tyler Rowland, and this was Locked on Titans.
