Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans Carnell Tate ROOKIE OF THE YEAR Ready After Signing & Cam Ward RECORD SEASON Coming
Episode Date: May 10, 2026The Tennessee Titans got their deal done with Carnell Tate this weekend in a move that wasn't surprising, but is still welcome as it avoids any unnecessary talking points or drama following the Titans.... Having a peaceful offseason that is all about the work is exactly what the doctored ordered at this point after fireworks during the offseason. This will set Tate up for a massive season that could have him in line for a rookie of the year award. Cam Ward would certainly have to have a good season for Tate to accomplish that, but the statistical projections for Ward are not exactly good enough from ESPN's Mike Clay. However, the projections for the Titans' top trio at receiver with Tate, Calvin Ridley and Wan'Dale Robinson all look pretty encouraging. Finally, the Titans again need to focus on getting to work as the rest of the summer schedule arrives. Organized team activities, mandatory mini-camp and training camp lie ahead with games happening before you know it. Each step is critical as the Titans try to shock the world this season. Cornell Tate got his rookie deal done with the Tennessee Titans over the weekend,
and I think it's a perfect start to a potential rookie of the year campaign.
I'll break it down on today's edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast Network,
your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast.
I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans.
Today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast is brought to you by Fandle.
Right now, new customers can bet just $5 and get $150 and bonus bets if your first bet
lends head to fandle.com to get started on today's show.
We are going to go through every important event remaining on the Tennessee Titans calendar
from now until week one.
And I'll tell you why the Titans offseason may have been exciting,
but it's time for the team to be boring.
Also, we're going to look at some stat projections for Cam Ward.
in the Tennessee Titans offense.
And I'll tell you why the projection I see for Cam Ward
simply isn't good enough.
But we're going to start with Cornell Tate
because again, he signed his rookie contract
with the Tennessee Titans over the weekend.
And I think it sets up a potential rookie of the year campaign.
Now, the deal is done for Cornell Tate.
And the thing about rookie contracts is they are mostly slotted,
like the amount of years, the amount of money,
the amount of guarantees.
that's based on what draft pick you are in the process
rather than, hey, we're negotiating how much you're going to pay me.
Now, there are things to negotiate within the process
when those guaranteed dollars are paid,
offset language, if you happen to cut somebody on a rookie deal
before the four years is up, how much does the other team pay
versus how much you have to pay?
Like, there are things to negotiate in there,
and that's why these things take a little bit of time.
But usually it's just a quick domino effect of the number two thing.
then the number three pick, then the number four pick,
and that's exactly what happened for the Titan.
So I'm not going to act like there was some drama
that's been avoided here, but also at the end of the day,
even though, and we saw this last year with Femiola-Dasia
when there was this blockade in the second round
of people getting their contract signed and things like that.
But even if it's an NFL-wide problem, it will cause drama.
It will be, oh, why isn't Cornell-Tate signed?
Oh, why are the Titans dragging their feet on that?
because a lot of people just don't understand how the rookie contracts work.
So they think it's some sort of impasse with the negotiations between the teams.
But often it's just an NFL-wide problem of, hey, the number three pick got this.
So the number four pick gets this.
So the number five.
And I'm just happy that there's none of that.
It's just a drama-free process because, again,
that's what I want the Tennessee Titans off-season to be.
I'll talk more about that from a team level at the end of the episode.
But for Cornell-Tate specifically, no drama,
problems, easy sailing.
Is that so much to ask?
Like I know that the contract would eventually get signed
and even if there was some sort of wait or delay or something like that, it would happen.
But I want no drama.
I want no friction.
I just want smooth sailing for Cornell Tate to go into his rookie season.
It's already difficult enough for a Tennessee Titans rookie wide receiver
to perform, produce, and do well.
I don't want any drama, any hiccups, any roadblocks,
anything smooth sailing because I think that Cornell Tate, while I have said, I think that
Anthony Hill will have the best season of the rookies. It's not that hard to see how
Carnel Tate could drive a path towards offensive rookie of the year. Like it's not a difficult
path. Do I think it's the most likely path? No, I can't say that I think it's the most likely
path. But is it possible? It's 100% possible. And as a matter of fact, if you go on to our friends
over at Fandu's sports book,
you're going to see Cornell Tate tied
for the third best odds for rookie of the year.
And that should be the case.
He was the third offensive rookie taken off the board.
You know what I mean?
So that does line up.
But again, I think the competition
that Carnell Tate is going to see for rookie of the year
is as much of a factor as Cornell Tate himself.
You look at Cornell Tate, I think he's going to have
a tremendous opportunity to win rookie of the year.
He's going to be the number one option
Tennessee Titans offense from day one.
Brian Daible's scheme is really, really good at creating opportunities and
isolation for the backside X wide receiver.
Like, Malik neighbors got one-on-one matchups against cover four,
because what Brian Daibu will do is he'll put trips to one side.
And then usually what happens is, and I believe the term is,
and if I'm wrong, let me know, but I believe the term is to Meg it.
But what happens is is when you put trips to one side against cover four,
is one of the most popular coverages in the NFL right now
because of the matchup potential that it allows.
The backside wide receiver that's not in the trips,
the isolated wide receiver usually gets one-on-one man coverage.
So the outside cornerback in cover four is playing a man technique,
even though they're in a cover-for zone.
Brian Dable is great at exposing that,
getting one-on-one opportunities for his isolated wide receiver.
He did it with Malik neighbors non-stop last year until Malik neighbors got hurt, of course,
That's something that worked very well for Malik neighbors during his time.
And when you can use a guy like Carnell Tate in that isolated wide receiver role,
let his route running get open against man coverage and single coverage.
That gives Cornell Tate a great opportunity to put up big time numbers.
And we're going to look at Cam Ward's projections and the rest of the offensive projections from Mike Clay of ESPN.
He does the fantasy projections.
But he's really projecting yards, stats, stuff like that, not just fantasy points.
He has Cardinal Tate projected to have 76 catches,
1,021 yards, and four touchdowns.
Now, I don't know if that would be good enough to win rookie of the year.
I think maybe 76 catches with 1,100 yards and 7 or 8 touchdowns
would probably win rookie of the year.
But, I mean, if that is like the base projection,
if Tate goes over that,
Cam Ward has a good season.
The Titans win six or seven, eight games
somewhere in that range
and look good while doing it.
Tate has some big games, stuff like that,
especially later in the year where it can really influence voters.
If he puts up that kind of performance on his own
with the opportunity that he has,
that's going to put him in the conversation.
And then you look at the competition.
And again, on Fandle,
Cornell Tate,
plus six,
$6.50. Tied for third best odds to win offensive rookie of the year.
Number one, Jeremiah Love.
I mean, Mike Clay from ESPN has him projected to have 15 total yards,
or 1,500 total yards and nine touchdowns.
Like, if he does that, that would be hard to beat.
But it's a crowded running back room in Arizona.
The Titans are likely to be a better football team than the Arizona Cardinals this year.
and if Jeremiah Love has an Ashton Genty year
where he doesn't go over a thousand yards rush,
say he gets, you know, 1,100 total yards
and six touchdowns.
But it doesn't look good.
He's up and down.
It's a struggle like Genty last year.
That could give Cardinal Tate a major advantage.
Mendoza is tied with Jeremiah Love
for the best odds at plus 4.30.
What's going on with Kirk Cousins?
Just because Mendoza went number one
doesn't mean that he's going to be in the rookie of the year conversation.
He could not have a good year.
Happened to Cam Ward last year.
He wasn't in the conversation because the team was too bad.
And Kim Ward had his struggles too.
And then you have Jordan Tyson who's tied with Cardinal Tate plus 650.
And Janarian Price is number five after that.
But Jordan Tyson has Chris Alave to deal with.
And Mike Clay projects Jordan Tyson
at 68 catches, 922 yards, 5 touchdowns.
That's one more touchdown.
But if Tate has, you know,
nine more catches, eight more catches,
100 more yards,
and a couple more touchdowns,
Cornell Tate would win the battle for wide receivers.
So, again, I don't,
I wouldn't have Cornell Tate as my favorite either.
I would have Jeremiah Love.
If I had to place a bet down today,
I would go with Jeremiah Love
or Mendoza,
which is why they're the first.
favorites. That makes sense.
So I'm not telling you that
Cornell Tate will win rookie of the year.
But what I'm saying is
there is clearly an easy path
to where he could win rookie of the year.
It makes sense.
And not only that,
but now that he's got his contract
signed, there's no drama.
He's not hurt. He's not holding
out. There is nothing
to impede him
from getting into organized team
activities next week.
and balling out.
And that is the, whether he wins rookie of the year or not,
that is the kind of start
that you want Cornell Tate to have
if he is going to win rookie of the year.
That's how it begins.
Not with need your inhaler after rookie minicamp,
not with a holdout that causes you to miss any time
or extra drama or anything like that.
This is just a nice, calm, easy, smart,
good start for Cornell Tate.
But with that being said,
we talked about Tate statistical projections.
What about Cam Ward?
And if Cam Ward does the stats that are being projected,
I don't know if it's quite good enough.

Let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
Again, we're talking about Carnell Tate being ready for rookie of the year.
We mentioned his projections.
Now I want to talk about Cam Ward and the rest of the offenses projections.
And we'll talk about the schedule at the end of the episode
and why it's so important for the Titans to be boring going for.
Before we dive in, though, do want to thank you for making Locked-on Titans,

But again, we talked about Cornell Tate's projections. Let's look at Cam Ward's projections.
So Mike Clay, the fantasy guy from ESPN, uses his
his analytics, his formulas, whatever, come up with projections.
And he has the Cam Ward, 359 completions,
565 attempts, that's 63% accuracy,
which is a big jump from the 59% that Cam Ward had last season.
So that would be good.
I would love it for it to be 65, 67.
But 63 would be a good jump.
3,77 yards.
He had 3169 last year.
So that's a 600-yard jump.
And then 16 touchdowns to 10 interceptions with two rushing touchdowns.
So 18 total touchdowns, 10 interceptions.
Last year he had 15 or 17 total touchdowns and seven interceptions.
The yards are not bad.
The completion percentage.
Not hateful.
But I don't know if that's good enough.
I don't think that's good enough personally, especially the touchdowns.
18 total touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
So he has one more total touchdown this year,
but three more interceptions, that is not a good enough improvement.
I don't care about the yards and the completion percentage.
Like that right there is not good enough.
Cam needs to be responsible for at minimum, at minimum,
20 total touchdowns.
at minimum.
Because, and I think one thing that's important,
and in Mike Clay's full projections,
he has like a little blurb, a little comment.
And he says in it that, you know,
this would be good enough for a year-two breakout for Cam Ward.
And I'm just like, is it really?
I mean, again, the yards are good.
The yards are probably my favorite part of it.
3,700. That's pretty good.
That's a little less than 100 away from the Tennessee Titans.
not including the Oilers,
but the Tennessee,
since they moved to Tennessee
or since they've been the Titans,
the highest is Ryan Tannehill, 3,800.
So Cam wouldn't quite be to that level.
I would like Cam Ward to break that record.
Can Cam Ward be the first 4,000-yard passer?
And here's the thing.
Caleb Williams went for 3,900 last year.
Drake May went for 4,200 last year.
And their teams were not going.
their rookie seasons.
So it's not too much to ask
with Carnell Tate, with Brian
Dable, with Wondale Robinson,
with an improved defense, with an improved
culture, with the New Jersey's, which
hey, look good, feel good, play good.
It counts a little bit for something.
I'm just saying like,
why can't Cam Ward have a season like that?
That is the breakout season.
So,
for me personally,
I want
65% completion.
I want 39 to 4,100 yards.
I want 20 total touchdowns minimum.
I think it should be closer to 25.
And if he throws for 10 interceptions, I'm fine with that.
Cam should take more chances.
He should have more time to do more things, make more plays.
Cam Ward's a gunslinger.
I've been saying it since he was drafted.
He's going to throw a couple picks.
He's going to have some fumbles when he's trying to make plays in the backfield.
like he's going to have boom or bus plays.
He's a gunsling.
That's the way that it works.
But I need more than that.
So, like, that wouldn't be a bad year,
but I would not call that like second year breakout for Cam Ward either.
That would just be a good progress.
It wouldn't be a bad year,
but I'm hoping that Cam Ward does more, I guess,
especially in the touchdown department.
That's what's really irking me right now.
16 passing touchdown.
and 10 interceptions, come on, man.
That's not good enough.
And that's why the Titans wide receivers,
you know, touchdown totals are all low.
Carnal Tate only four touchdowns.
Well, if Cam Ward's only going to throw 16 touchdowns
the whole freaking year,
then yeah, Carnal Tate's probably only going to get four of them.
You know, that wouldn't be that crazy.
But the rest of it is okay.
We need to score more points than that.
Please, I'm begging you.
But the interesting part is
Cornel Tate, 76 catches
1,000 yards, 4 touchdowns
is his projection.
But Calvin Ridley's projection,
53 catches, 825 yards, 4 touchdowns.
If Calvin Ridley has 50 catches,
800 yards, and 4 touchdowns,
what an incredible season.
That is literally a perfect season
for Calvin Ritley.
That would be, quite honestly,
if I'm, okay,
we won't go this far.
I was about to say that would be an elite season.
An elite season for Calvin Ridley right now is a thousand-yard season.
Imagine of Cornell Tate and Calvin Ridley both went over 1,000 yards.
That would be elite.
That's an elite outcome for the Titans.
But Ridley at 800 yards, 50 catches,
that is an incredible outcome.
That is great.
That may not be elite.
That is great.
the tier system.
It's not S tier, but it's an A tier.
That is an A tier outcome for Calvin Ridley, 800 yards.
Like, that would, you know,
Cornell Tate at 1,000, Ridley at 800,
that's a pretty great start.
And then what's crazy to me is
Mike Clay also has Wondale Robinson,
80 catches, 821 yards, two touchdowns.
So, Cardo Tate's going to go for a thousand,
and Calvin Ridley and Wondell Robinson get 800 a piece,
I don't see that happening.
Like, yeah, I would love that.
I would love that.
That is great news, you know, that's awesome.
I would be very happy for that happening.
That does not seem likely to me.
I think it's much more likely that Calvin Ridley is at like 40 catches
for 600 yards.
And then Wondale is at like, you know, 65 catches for 60,
650 to 700 yards.
Having 1,800 and 800,
I don't know, man.
I just think it's going to be spread out a little bit more than that.
And it's not just Ridley or Wondale Robinson being a little less.
And again, I think Cardinal Tate ultimately does do a little bit less
than a thousand.
but like the projections for Chim Dikey and Eich Ayo Manor are stupid.
Chim Dekay, 7 catches, 74 yards in a touchdown.
Elykeyeomanner, three catches, 38 yards.
If Elico Manor plays in 15 games and only has three catches,
like, you know, I'll do the show with my shirt off.
I wouldn't obviously do that.
But it just shows like if he gets hurt, he gets hurt.
Obviously there's nothing you can do there.
but the Titans are going to do way more of a rotation.
And also, Elyle-Gyel Manor,
Carnell Tate as a Z wide receiver,
and then D-K or Wondale or Ridley in the slot,
is something the Titans should be using a ton.
Two bigger, wide receivers on the outside.
And then even, you know, Ridley or D-K
would be a bigger slot as a wide receiver.
and then if a team has smaller cornerbacks
plays a ton of man,
you can use those guys.
I just, that's why I think it,
there's no way that we're going to get 1,800, 800,
it's much more likely that I.O.
ends up with 300 on 30 catches
and D.K. gets 400 on 40 catches.
And then it's, you know, 500 for Ridley,
700 for Wondale and then 1,000 for Carnell Tate.
Like, that makes way more.
sense to me than the way that they have it right now. That just doesn't make sense.
Now, tight end, they got Gunner Helm, 59 catches, 497 yards and three touchdowns.
And he does that plus improved blocking that we saw at the end of the year.
That's a great starting tight end right there, man.
That's a solid player in year two.
And I think that's about where Gunner Helm is going to be.
That's what I expect.
They had Bellinger at about 13 catches 112 yards.
I think it's going to be more than that.
I think Belly gets closer to 200 yards, personally.
Spears, 1,000 rushing yards, 1,064, 6 touchdowns,
200 receiving yards, perfectly fine.
Taj Spears, 800 total yards.
I think it was like 500 rushing, 300 receiving five touchdowns.
Again, perfectly fine backfield.
That would work great.
I'm not going to look at the Titans backfield and be like,
they are losing games because they don't have good enough running backs.
I don't expect that to be the case.
But with that being said,
there's a lot of big events
that are going to happen between right now
and when the Titans start to accumulate those stats.
And I think it's best if the Titans are as boring as possible
during that time.

game. And let's cap off today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast.
Again, we talked about Cardo Tate being rookie of the year ready after signing his contract.
We talked about his projections, Cam Ward's projections, and the rest of the offense.
And while some of them just don't make sense to me and some of them do.
But we need to talk about what's next now for the Tennessee Titans.
What does the schedule look like going forward?

join the Locked-on Titans every day or club now.
But with that being said, again,
the Titans have been very exciting this offseason.
New coaching staff, coaching staff that were excited about,
the free agency process, they spent a ton of money,
the draft, they made trades, they had two first-round picks,
they move up in the second, they add Tate, they surprise us,
that, you know, again, they're moving up, making these moves,
getting their guys.
It's been a very exciting all season.
You add in the jerseys, the brand release, the party,
the stadium coming together.
Like right now, Titans fans are on the highest of the high.
It has been one of the most exciting off seasons in Titans history,
bar none.
But it's time to be born.
And I'm going to talk about this more,
I would imagine, in a few weeks,
when the Titans do take their break.
officially. A little bit of a break here
in a couple of weeks for the Titans, but
it's time to be boring.
They've been exciting. Now it's time
to put your head down and go to work.
I don't want
injuries,
scandal,
drama,
fallout,
controversy,
anything, you know, criminal
players getting in trouble, suspensions,
and no drama quiet.
Nothing is great.
Nothing is great.
I don't want to hear anything about the Titans in the news.
Now, of course, locally,
we're going to have OTAs and mandatory minicamp
and fun to talk about there.
Like, they're not just going to go radio silent.
But big national stories about the Titans,
anything too dramatic?
Let's just talk about practice, how people are doing, how things are shaping up.
Again, no drama.
You were exciting.
Now let's be boring.
And here's the schedule that remains for the Titans.
For them to be boring and just work on football.
Next Monday, the 18th of May,
the Titans start their full team,
organized team activities.
18th and 19th
one day break on the 20th
and then the 21st.
Then they're back the next week
26th, 27th
and then the 29th.
And then the first week of June
there is a break.
And then they come back
June 8th, 9th,
11th and 12th, day break on the 10th.
Those are the organized team activities,
three sets of them.
organized team activities.
The whole team together,
they're going to be working on technique,
working on seven on seven,
walkthroughs,
drilling,
scripts,
install the playbooks,
that's serious football time.
Now it's not mandatory,
but I would bet
with the new coaching staff,
the hunger to win,
the hunger to lead,
going to be pretty good attendance.
I would imagine.
And then mandatory mini-camp.
June the 16th and June the 17th.
And that is the last
that we are going to see from the Tennessee Titans
until training camp.
Then the six weeks of death begin.
Six, five weeks, whatever you want to call it.
I think it is six, though.
That is the deadest period,
the most dead period of the entire NFL schedule is that gap.
And I want it to be boring.
We'll talk about that as we approach it.
But no drama, no stories, no news, just football.
And then training camp starts the last week of July.
So I would imagine July the 28th,
which is a Tuesday, July the 29th, which is a Wednesday.
Usually there's the first day of training camp where the players report.
and then the next day they actually get out on the field.
So I would imagine Tuesday is report day.
Wednesday will be the first practice of training camp.
And then we're off folks.
And then it's not long.
Then we're into August.
Hall of Fame game is the first week of August
and then August 13th through the 16th, preseason week one.
August 20th through the 23rd, preseason week two.
August 27th through the 30th, preseason week three.
and then the next week after that, cuts happen.
Officially on Tuesday at noon.
Noont, I think is when they're official.
And then we have one week of a buy,
and then we're right into week one of the NFL season.
And the first game of the NFL season this year is September the 9th on Wednesday.
And we're there.
So think about that.
Three sets of OTAs.
one mandatory mini camp,
training camp,
three preseason games,
and we're right there.
It's right around the corner.
The summer is here, folks.
It's just crazy that it's upon us.
The off season, the off season,
it's almost over.
We're almost into preseason activities.
Like, we're pretty much there.
So, it's been an exciting off season.
Now it's time for them to get to work.
They just simply need to get to work.
and that's, that's all I want to hear about is football, on field football.
That's all I want.
So with that being said, again, schedule release week, folks.
We got a lot of schedule conversation to have trying to get a roster prediction in here as well among all the news and everything going on.
But with that being said, that is going to do it for me today, folks.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland.
And this was Locked on Titans.
