Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans Carnell Tate Wears 14 as Rookies Pick New Numbers & Finding Success for Rookies

Episode Date: May 1, 2026

The Tennessee Titans new rookie class finally picked their numbers on Thursday and first-round pick Carnell Tate selected 14. It is certainly a silly conversation, but 14 just doesn't have the pop of ...17. Chim Dike clearly was not willing to part with the number despite Tate's willingness to pay for it. However, all the other numbers fit perfectly fine for the rookie class. Regardless, numbers on the jersey don't mean numbers on the field and all of these rookies are more focused on the in-game results. Finding success as a rookie is different for each player as the expectations vary. Also, the Titans still need some depth at key places, but it may be a while before we see meaningful additions.   LOCKED ON TITANS EVERYDAY CLUB: https://lockedontitans.supercast.com/   Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel:  https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitans   TicTacTitans Merchandise: https://dixons-dream.square.site/shop...   Follow Tyler on Twitter @TicTacTitans   Follow the show on Facebook @LockedOnTitansPod   Subscribe to the Locked On Titans YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@LockedOnTitans   Everydayer ClubIf you never miss an episode, it’s time to make it official. Starting point is 00:00:00 Numbers on a jersey don't have anything to do with numbers on the field. But I got to admit, I don't love Carnell Tate wearing 14. We'll break it down on today's edition of Locked on Titans. You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast network, your team every day. Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast. I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans. Today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast is brought to you by Fandall.
Starting point is 00:00:39 Right now, new customers can bet just $5 and get $150 and bonus bets if your first bet wins had to Fandle.com to get started on today's show. We're going to talk about the Tennessee Titans rookie class picking their new numbers, and we'll talk about the drama with Chim D.K., not letting Carnell Tate have number 17. Also, I got some mailbag questions from my everydayers in the Locked on Titans every dayers. You're a club. Can't wait to go over those like what happens for a rookie season success for the Titans rookie class.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Also, depth spots that the Titans still need answers at. Before we dive into all of it again, thank you for making a locked-on Titans. You're at first listen each and every day. Remember, Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year round, always for free. Make sure that you get subscribed. Stay subscribed. It's your team every day.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Speaking of every day, again, shout out to my everydayers. Tune in Monday through Friday, couldn't do it without you guys. You aren't an everydayer you need to be one. With that being said, though, again, Cornell Tate, what number would he be? He picks number 14, and I get it. Numbers on the jersey don't mean numbers on the field. Whatever jersey number he is wearing isn't going to be the difference
Starting point is 00:01:59 between whether he's a good player or a bad player for the Titans. ultimately his jersey number does not matter. It's again, the numbers that he puts up on the actual football field. But dang it, I don't like 14. I don't like the number 14 personally. I don't think it's a great wide receiver number. Kids want to call it aura or swag or moxie or whatever any word, depending on what age you are, you want to subscribe it to.
Starting point is 00:02:27 14 just doesn't have a lot of that for me. 14 just doesn't have pop. It doesn't, you know, it's not one of my favorite numbers. And at the end of the day, what numbers you like best are subjective to you. So maybe you do like 14. It was your peewee number, there's a player you liked that was number 14 or this and, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:50 maybe you do like 14. But to me, if you're looking at the teens for wide receivers, I think that 12, 14, and 19 are the worst. 12, 14, and 19 just have no swag to him. I'm not a big fan. 19, you could maybe convince me. But I just don't, for a wide receiver,
Starting point is 00:03:15 12, 14, 19, I just don't like it. Just not a big fan. And of course he goes with 14. Now, Cardinal Tate said, before the draft, I forget whether it was at a event, a week before,
Starting point is 00:03:30 at the red carpet, before the draft night. But he saw, I've seen it on video, he said that he's willing to pay over $100,000 for number 17 if someone has it at his new team. Well, we know Jim D.K. Has number 17.
Starting point is 00:03:48 So it stands to reason that Cardinal Tate probably did offer Chim DK 100,000, little over 100,000 for 17. And DK said no. DK said no. So now Carnell Tate's in the 14 and we can hope we can hope that maybe he can eventually change his number.
Starting point is 00:04:11 I honestly, if I'm being honest with you, I kind of wanted to see Carnell Tate in like an 80s number. Now, all of the 80s numbers, if you go look like literally all of the 80s numbers are taken right now. 81, Hal Presley, 80, Bryce Oliver, 82, Daniel Bellinger, 83, Joel Wilson, 84 is obviously Gunner, KJ Osbournes, 85, Kyle, Kylean Granson, 86, Restrepo, 87, David Martin Robinson, 88, McCutcheon, 89. And I'm not a huge fan of 89 in the 80s also, 82, I don't really like that one.
Starting point is 00:04:56 but we can hope that maybe, and like if Will Levis has 8, if Will Levis were to be traded, for example, Hendon Hooker has 16, if he were to be cut, for example, that then maybe there are some of those options, and I would like those. I think that 8 would be great for Cornell Tate. I think 88 would be great for Cornell Tate.
Starting point is 00:05:30 I think 81 would be great for Cornell Tate as well. I think there are a lot of numbers that could be better than 14. Now, he'll probably just keep 14. He'll probably just keep 14 and go with that. And that'll be his number for his career. And again, it doesn't really matter. But like, I'm just being honest. I don't really like 14 as a number.
Starting point is 00:05:52 It's not that great for a wide receiver. I can see it for something else maybe. I just, I don't know. Just not what I was hoping for, I guess. But on the flip side, Keldrick Falk in the 15, awesome. Getting his college number,
Starting point is 00:06:10 having 15 for a defensive lineman like that, it just adds a new level of pop, in my opinion. I thought he looked awesome in the 15. I'm glad that he got to keep a number like that rather than happen to go into the 90s or something like that. You know what I mean? 15 will look great on Keldrick Fulk. Anthony Hill on the 53, great Titans linebackers, number 53, I'm telling you.
Starting point is 00:06:33 It's time. It's time for Anthony Hill to follow in the footsteps of my favorite Titans linebacker ever, Keith Bullock. All right. So I love the 53 on Anthony Hill. I'll be honest, though. Anthony Hill in like a six or an eight or an 11 or something. I did like the look of that. I loved his 11 at Texas.
Starting point is 00:06:53 So we'll see what happens there. Fernando Carmona in the 66. Cool with that. Classic offensive line, guard 66. Big fan. Nick Singleton in the 32, Nick Singleton did look sweet in the 10. Obviously Mitch Trubesky is 10.
Starting point is 00:07:10 But I was thinking maybe just like, you know, 30 flat. I guess Kendall Brooks does have the 30 flat right now, but 32, 30, I think that's a fine running back number. 32 is perfectly fine. in my opinion, for a running back. It won't look out of place or anything like that. Like Michael Carter's 35.
Starting point is 00:07:32 I don't think 35 looks good. Julie's chestnut, 36. I'm out on that. Running back numbers. But Pat Coogan, 79. Perfect. Perfect. 79. Good center number.
Starting point is 00:07:45 I know that Cush was just 79. I don't care. We can't worry about that kind of stuff forever. Coogan in the 79. Great. Jackie Marshall in the 96, I guess. Sure. Whatever. I'm not high on Jackie Marshall like some others are. I think if anybody gets cut from the initial roster, it might be Jackie. But either way.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Jaron Kanek, tight end, 47, sure. Is he going to make the roster either? I have my doubts about those final two right there. But 96, 47, they're fine. Not players I expect to have a major impact. If Kanik turns into a good player, we're going to have to change from 47, bro. 47, not a good number with aura, as the kids would say. 96 works for Jackie Marshall.
Starting point is 00:08:33 If Jackie Marshall turns into a good player, 96 is perfectly fine. So let's keep our eye out on Jaron Kanek because we're going to have to switch you if you do turn into a good player, my friend. But with that being said, got some mailbag questions from the Locked on Titans every dayer group chat. Shout out to my fine folks, my real everydayers in the chat. got a lot of mailback questions to get into, quite frankly, so I'm ready to dive in. I do want to let you know that today's episode is brought to you by FanDuel Sportsbook.

Starting point is 00:11:08 where you can submit these things. talking about NFL news, everything that happens with the Titans immediately. You don't have to wait for the show. It's a great value and it helps support me, support the show in a small way for all the free content that I'm giving you all year round here on the Locked On Titans podcast and on the Tick-Tac Titans film channel. But with that being said, again, some mailback questions. Number one, Chris Fern says, are you concerned about the lack of real experience and depth on the offensive line? Who wouldn't be?
Starting point is 00:11:38 who wouldn't be at this point in time. I'm absolutely worried about the offensive line. If there is a path to this season going off the rails and going terrible, that path is through the offensive line being a disaster. Once again, like, hey, the wide receivers got better, Cam got better, the defense is better, but the O line is so bad that the season is ruined. That is a realistic outcome for this season right now.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Caboos says successful year for the rookies. Well, Carnell Tate for me, I mentioned 700 to 1,000 yards, 50 to 70 catches, three to eight touchdowns. That success for Carnell Tate for me. Keldrick Falk would be just being an impactful player on defense and having some impactful moments as a rotational player. I don't want to put too high of expectations on Falk. I think a successful year for Anthony Hill is to become the starting middle linebacker.
Starting point is 00:12:36 at some point during the season, it doesn't have to be, you know, day one, week one of training camp, starting week one of the NFL season. But if he takes over as the starter, you know, with like a month left in the year and has a good finish, I think that would be good for Anthony Hill. Fernando Carmona making the roster.
Starting point is 00:12:59 Nick Singleton, about 5 to 10 touches a game. I'd say, you know, 300 yards rushing, you know, if he gets 300 to 400 total yards on the year, if he gets to 500, it was a great year for Nick Singleton. Pat Coogan, I'm going to say making the roster, but if you want to have just an incredible year, not successful, but an incredible year,
Starting point is 00:13:24 Pat Coogan's starting. It's pretty much the same for Fernando Carmona. Make the roster, prove that you can belong, and then if you start, that's a cherry on top. And that makes a great year. for those guys. Jackie Marshall and Jaron Kinnock are the same for me. Make the team. If they simply make the roster, it's a successful year for late round picks like that.
Starting point is 00:13:47 Dippy had a bunch of questions. ASC South Power rankings. I would go Houston, Jacksonville, Indianapolis, Tennessee right now. Best free agent fit available, give me Joey Bosa. I want to keep adding, well, Kevin Zitler. Sure, you get Kevin Zitler, but Joey Bosa. is who I would really like to add for the tight. I don't think they will, but, you know, more veteran edge rushers,
Starting point is 00:14:13 especially if folk is going to be more of an inside rusher. They still need an edge rusher. Is anybody going to fill in for Chad Brinker, president of football operations? I don't think so. I think they're just going to let Mike Borganzi be in charge. They might add somebody to do some of the duties that Chad Brinker did to keep Mike Borganzi free to focus on football,
Starting point is 00:14:33 but I don't think it'll be called president of, football operations. That's a title thing. Expansion draft, is there anybody that you would save or who was the number one player? It would be Cam Ward. Jeffrey Simmons and Cam Ward are the only people
Starting point is 00:14:49 that realistically could get the honor of being someone who we saved if there was an expansion team in the NFL and they could draft off this roster, which who's taking players off the Titans other than Simmons Cam? Let's be honest here. Skoronsky at best. But a dream jersey. I don't really look at jerseys like that.
Starting point is 00:15:08 And this is going to sound however you want, but I can buy any jersey I want. So there is no dream jersey. You know, I'm at a stage and I can afford, I remember for most of my life, which I'm not, dude, I came from nothing, man. Like I came from dirt, poor, you know, I'm not. Pinky ring up drinking my tea. Like, ooh, I can afford anything.
Starting point is 00:15:36 like, you know what I mean? But like, I'm at a stage of my life right now where I, there is not a jersey unless it's like signed and collect like it's a, but like any jersey of any Titans player or anything like that throwback jersey of Steve McNair or something like I could buy eight of them if I wanted to. I'm not a big jersey person. They don't fit me right. I don't, jerseys just make me feel weird like they're tight in the ribs, but not in the, big in the shoulders. It's just weird. They don't fit me right. But I just got a Cam Ward white of the new jerseys. Last year when it was on sale, I got a Jeffrey Simmons light blue.
Starting point is 00:16:16 I have a Derek Henry Oilers jersey to commemorate that era of Titans football and the coolest looking Titans jersey ever. And then I have a Kevin Byard, which I bought a long time. And then I have the one that used to be up on my wall, the Tyler Rowland jersey of the Titans that I have in a frame. So I have some jerseys, but I wouldn't say I have a dream jersey because I can buy any jersey that I want. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:16:43 I'd say signed Kevin Byard in a frame. You know, that would probably be more expensive than a regular jersey. Do you want the Titans to have an international game? Yes. I will say this. Just purely from me as a content creator and the way that my Sundays go and comfortability. I can't wait for the Titans to have a 9-10.
Starting point is 00:17:04 If I woke up, the game was starting right away, eat a little breakfast from 830 to 9. 9.30. The game starts at 9.30. I go live and do my show after the game, which ends at noon 1230. And then I can sit on the couch and watch the games and watch. I have Sunday ticket. So all the other in my fantasy players and all the other matchups that I'm interested in because I love football. and the NFL. And I do Locked on NFL if you are listening to this and don't know that I'm the lead host of Locked on NFL, the national show.
Starting point is 00:17:42 So I get to watch all the other games, pay attention to those, prep for Locked on NFL. I can't wait for the Titans to have an international morning game. And it's just cool to see Titans play in another country. You know those games feel elevated. Same thing, prime time. I will do my wish list for the schedule in the coming weeks as we get closer to the schedule coming out.
Starting point is 00:18:04 I am begging the NFL for another Titans Jags Thursday night game. Can we just get Titans Jags on Thursday night? It's meant to be. It's such a good Thursday night matchup. Just give me Titans Jags on Thursday night. I'm begging you for it. I need it back in my life. I miss it.
Starting point is 00:18:21 The nostalgia, all right? Are you going bald for the playoffs? No, I will never, ever go bald in any capacity. I don't care what it would take, you know. Titan Super Bowl to go bald. Sorry, we ain't winning. Titans autographs. Kevin Byard.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Derek Henry. Brad Hopkins, my guy, when I meet him in person, I'm getting an autograph from the legend, Brad Hopkins from the Titan Squad show. I don't know. I don't really, I'm not, I know you see the stuff in the background, but I'm not a big collectible person for most of my life because I couldn't afford collectibles of any kind.
Starting point is 00:19:02 So I'm trying to ease myself into caring about those things. Like cards. A lot of you guys like playing cards, trading, you know, sports cards and stuff. I never had money to have collectibles and hobbies when I was a kid. I played sports and that's all I could do or had money to do. So like, it's weird for me. Like, I don't buy expensive watches and I'm just trying to get into jewelry and stuff because for most like shoes, I don't like, I don't care about shoes because I never had money to care about shoes. I couldn't afford shoes like good shoes and multiple. I had one pair of shoes each year. And I'd get a new pair when school was starting. And I'd won pair of shoes and then cleats.
Starting point is 00:19:38 So like, I'm trying to work my way into that kind of stuff and not feel like the poverty scratching at my soul when I buy something that's, you know, not necessary. This one's good. Would you rather be bad and guarantee that you got Jeremiah Smith or the Titans make the playoffs? Titans make the playoffs. Jeremiah Smith's probably going to be incredible, but you can't know for certain. It could be a Marvin Harrison Jr. situation where he's not quite as good
Starting point is 00:20:10 as you thought he was going to be. Like, I'm taking the playoffs over any player in the draft. Give me a playoff run this year. I need it, man. We need wins. Two back-to-back three-win seasons. We need some wins, man.
Starting point is 00:20:26 I can't do it anymore. Dio Brando said is it possible for Cam to play bad enough where the Titans would draft a quarterback if they got the number one overall pick? Yeah. I mean, I don't think it would happen, but if Cam played as bad as Will played,
Starting point is 00:20:45 the Titans would have to consider one of these awesome quarterbacks coming out in 2027, right? That ain't going to happen, all right? I feel very confident that ain't going to happen, but certainly there's a realm where that would, or, you know, there are other reasons, things of controversy, injury, you never know, but yeah, it's not like insane.
Starting point is 00:21:05 Haunted said, Depp still needed. Harris in the slot. Yeah, I think Marcus Harris is a passing down slot, but I still think that Kevin Winston's going to play early down slot. I think that Robert Sala's just trying to play coolly about it. But I think Kevin Winston is the early down slot. I'm still going to hold to that belief.
Starting point is 00:21:26 And depth still needed, of course. I think that you can see some depth at linebacker. I think obviously on the offensive line. I think at safety, at cornerback as well, at edge. Like there could be depth at a lot of places for basically every place. The Titans aren't good enough to not accept good players. And if they're available at spots they need. Juice says, could you see a player for player trade for a guard,
Starting point is 00:21:55 like for Barton or for one of the, the running backs. Yes. That does. That's a great point, Juice. I could absolutely see a, if they're happy with Nick Singleton, like if Nick Singleton looks like he can be the new Taj Spears guy, which I think Brian Daibble likes bigger backs, I can see Taj Spears traded for a guard. Yeah, I think something like that could make sense for the Titans. I don't think it's likely, but I think it's, it could be on the table. And Mike Borganzi has proven that he will be creative. solutions. Andrew says,
Starting point is 00:22:29 why did the Titans take Fernando Carmona over Sam Hect? And my only answer is they liked Carmona better. He's a guard, bigger, more physical. And why would they take Sam Hect there at center if they felt confident and comfortable that they could get somebody like Pat
Starting point is 00:22:51 Coogan later who they think is just as good as Sam Hett? Maybe we don't agree with that. but that's clearly how they felt. Andrew Artees also asked, are they going to sign an edge rusher who's the best speed edge rusher left? Joey Bosa. That's my answer. I mean, he's not a pure speed rusher,
Starting point is 00:23:08 but I think he would make sense. Titan should bring him in one year, $10 million deal. I think that, why not? Stack out the D-line. You're going to rotate a ton anyway, so hopefully he stays healthy. And at this point, even if you give Joey Bosa a one-year $10 million deal,
Starting point is 00:23:23 and he only plays in 11 games because he has hamstring problems or whatever. Isn't that worth the money at that point? They have $60 million in cap space. You can't roll over $60 million. That's too much. So why not? What's the downside?
Starting point is 00:23:39 Tell me a downside. There isn't one. And it's not like he would be taking snaps from a younger player who needs them like Femi. They're going to do different things. So final question here. David says
Starting point is 00:23:52 Mason Kinsey as an assistant coach, If he's cut, I don't think that's crazy. But I know a lot of people who don't like Mason Kinsey and are sick of him being around or rolling their eyes like, oh, give me a break. Offensive coach, yeah, right. But maybe he's like a quality control assistant, a coffee runner or something like that.
Starting point is 00:24:10 If he wants to be a coach, if Mason Kinsey truly wants to be a coach in the NFL, and they think that he's good enough to be a young coach, then why not? Why not? But I don't see that happening personally. But with that being said again, That's going to do it for today's edition and this week's edition of Locked on Titans.
Starting point is 00:24:30 I'm going to be back to recap rookie minicamp. Hopefully nothing newsworthy happens because nothing good newsworthy could happen for the Titans over rookie minicamp. It would only be bad news to be honest. No news is good news. But, you know, there will still be stuff to discuss. There will be media appearances, things like that. So we'll break it all down when we come back.
Starting point is 00:24:50 But thank you all so much. That's going to do it for me today. Folks, as always, I am your hope. Tyler Rowland, and this was locked on Titans.
