Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans COWARDLY COACHING to Blame for BIG LOSS to Colts & Cam Ward Needs Brand New Roster
Episode Date: October 26, 2025The Tennessee Titans lost big to the Indianapolis Colts once again this season and once again coaching was a primary component. Mike McCoy routinely made conservative decisions that you simply can't m...ake when you are trying to pull an upset like the Titans were. However, we saw some good things on the day that should be exciting to see. Cam Ward had a nice game and was held back by his coaching and weapons once again although Chim Dike performed again. The offensive line had a pretty good day as well. Sadly though, the defensive side of the ball needs so much work and it emphasizes once again how far away this team is from a roster perspective from being where they need to be. The Tennessee Titans were probably always going to lose that game,
but interim head coach Mike McCoy made sure of it with a bunch of cowardly coaching.

The Tennessee Titans lose once again this time their second loss to the Indianapolis Colts of the season.
They lose 38 to 14 and we all thought that the Tennessee Titans were going to lose this.
game, but Mike McCoy made sure of it. Before we dive in, do want to thank you for making

It's your team every day. Speaking of every day, shout out to my everydayers out there.
Tune in Monday through Friday, couldn't do it without you guys. If you aren't an everydayer,
you need to be one because the Tennessee Titans sure is the world. Need a new head coach,
and we got a lot of candidates to talk about over the next few months.
But before all of that, we must start with today's game.
Again, another loss for the Tennessee Titans that I think
the Titans had a chance to get in the game,
at least be in the game at halftime.
They had an opportunity, and Mike McCoy absolutely blew it,
and he did it on multiple occasions with cowardly decisions.
Like, it's truly unbelievable.
Just how cowardly, Mike McCoy.
called this game. When there's absolutely no reason for it whatsoever, there is no reason to be as
conservative as Mike McCoy was and it makes me frustrated because there are certain players out
there who are trying their best, who are trying to keep the team in the game. The defense even
had some moments against this vaunted Colts offense before things got off the rails.
But when the head coach, just like we experienced against the Denver Broncos, just like we
experience against the Los Angeles Rams, the Colts the first time, the Texas,
Exxins after that.
Like it's over and over and over again and it doesn't matter whether it's Brian Callahan.
Now it doesn't matter whether it's Mike McCoy.
But the coach is hurting the team.
And when the Titans roster and the Titans players are so young and quite frankly not very good.
When you have so many things going against you,
the head coach cannot be somebody who is actively harming the team.
And that's exactly what Mike McCoy did in this game.
I mean, let's just look at the half-time sequence.
One of the most important, maybe the most important part of a football game
outside of the end of the game
is the end of the first half
in the beginning of the second half.
How does your team act?
How does your team respond in that sort of
switch up moment?
Okay?
That's why I will always, I will always, I'll never change on this.
There is no example.
You can make your argument all you want,
but this is why you always kick the ball to start a game.
If you win the coin toss, you defer because it gives you the opportunity to score before halftime,
get the ball out of halftime, and score again.
And the Titans had such a great opportunity to do this because the Colts took the ball.
It's fourth and what, like fourth and four, fourth and five.
And the Titans don't go for it.
And they punt, give it back to the Colts.
and go into the locker room 17, 7.
All right, right, all right, whatever.
But then, the most egregious moment of all,
coming out of halftime, you're down 17-7.
You have a chance here.
Get a touchdown on the board.
Get some points on the board.
You're down by one score in the third quarter against the Colts.
Nobody expected this.
You got a chance.
And then what happens?
it's third and three
and you run the football
all right listen everybody be mad about that
I wasn't I was like all right
I get it
if you thought you were going for it on fourth down
and you know hey it's third down
and then I have fourth down I have two downs to get this
I'm going to run on the first one
and see if I can pick it up on the ground
I'm not mad at that it's fourth and three
all right
all right now it's fourth and three
You ran the ball, it didn't work.
Now you got your second down.
And they pun again.
They pun again.
They're at the 50 yard line.
They're at the 50 yard line against the Colts offense.
Mike, Mike McCoy,
hello, I'm in your headset.
You're an interim head coach.
You have nothing to lose.
You're probably not getting the full-time gig anyway.
You're an interim guy.
Nobody's going to blame you for being aggressive.
Your team is 1 and 6.
There is truly nothing to lose.
The Colts offense is great
and has been hot knife through butter for most of the game.
Why would you give them the ball back
and you're punting from inside the 50 yard line?
You're going to need a great punt
to even have this field position battle work
and what are you doing?
You're playing the field position battle.
You're one in six.
What are we doing?
Any punt.
and he punts
and instantly
instantly gets the karma from that
I mean instant karma for the cowardly coaching
before halftime
and then now right after halftime
the pure cowardice
of not going forward on forth down there
what happens
the punt goes into the back of the end zone
for a touchback you gained a net
22 yards Mike McCoy
22 yards congratulations
What a great field flipping moment for you, genius.
And then immediately, boom, 80-yard touchdown.
Jonathan Taylor, down the sideline, gone 24-7, game over.
Game over.
So, were the Titans going to win this game?
Probably not.
But Mike McCoy made sure they didn't win the game
because when they had an actual opportunity to be in the game
before halftime and right out of halftime,
when they had an actual chance to, hey, maybe you put some pressure on the Colts.
The Titans' defense, surprisingly, got a couple of stops in this game,
forced a couple of punts in this game.
You want to talk about complimentary football.
Mike McCoy wants to get up there and say,
oh, we need to play better complimentary football.
That's what we haven't done all year.
You yourself as the coach, you are not complimenting your team
by being totally unaware of the situation.
Again, you're 1 and 6.
You're on the road.
You're playing a better football team.
No one's expecting anything from the interim head coach anyway.
You already got a pay bump that made this totally worth it for you.
And you get none of the pressure being the real coach and long-term expectations.
It's fourth and three.
You're down by 10.
It's the third quarter.
You're past the 50.
What are we doing?
So like,
quite honestly, again,
the Titans were not going to win this game.
Nobody was picking them to win the game,
but they would have had a chance to win the game
at least given themselves a chance
if not for Mike McCoy being such a coward as a coach out there today.
It's just unbelievable how many games this year
the Titans should have been more competitive.
The Titans should have been in the game.
The Titans had a chance to win.
If not for how bad the coaching has been,
whether it's Brian Callahan or now Mike McCoy.
This is why I tried to tell you people. There is no scenario where Mike McCoy is going to get this job.
There's just none. It's not going to happen. And I told you before he ever even coached the game.
The guy is not an NFL head coach.
So, I'm glad we can all understand that now.
But the reality is here, there was a lot of good I liked in that game.
Despite the score, this is one of those games where it's like,
All right, they lost.
It wasn't all bad and Cam Ward honestly had a pretty good game.

Titans fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast,
recapping a 38 to 14 beat down by the Indianapolis courts,
but quite frankly, that was the expectation.
I had this one 33 to 16.
Feels pretty close to what I was expecting in this game.
Again, I thought Mike McCoy had a chance to get the team in the game,
but his cowardly coaching kept the Titans
from even making it close
in the big time moments.
But quite frankly,
this isn't one of those losses
where I come out of it
and I'm angry and screaming mad
and, you know, smoke coming out of my ears
like the old school cartoons.
You know, I'm just not that angry at this loss.
At the end of the day, we expected the Titans
to lose this game to the Colts.
Again, I know that maybe some of you don't feel this way,
but this game went pretty much how I expected.
The Titans don't have enough talent out on the field.
They're missing Jeffrey Simmons.
They're missing Calvin Ridley,
missing Legerius Sneed in the secondary,
and they don't have a lot of talent in the first place.
As a team, the Colts are a much better football team,
and we knew that coming in.
But with that,
again, I'm not that angry at the outcome,
and I thought there was a lot to like in this matchup,
if I'm honest with you.
So we could call it tighten up, tighten down.
I kind of have allowed that to be part of the squad show
with my guy Julian and Bradson.
Hopkins, the Titans legend.
We do the squad show on Tuesdays live on YouTube.
It comes out on the podcast feed too.
Check that out if you guys haven't been tapped into that.
But, you know, you want to look at the Titan ups.
I think there are a lot.
You start with Cam Ward.
You know, 22 for 38, 259.
Had the interception late in the game when he's trying to force something
to Chim D.K. on fourth and goal.
I'm not going to get too overly angry at him about that.
Had the touchdown to Gunner Helm, which I did call the touchdown
to Gunner Helm from Friday show.
It means very little with this.
point, but I guess it did happen. National
tight ends day, so it makes sense that
Gunner Helm would get in on the action. He had a very good game.
We'll get to him.
But I thought Cam Ward was pretty precise.
And some of the sacks were his fault.
I thought at least two of the sacks
are on him, not necessarily the offensive line.
But there were some drops out there.
I.O. Manor stopped on a route, on a corner route
that was open that I thought Cam threw a good ball on.
You know, I thought Cam made plays.
Got out of the pocket when he could.
Try to extend stuff.
try to make stuff happen.
I don't think it was a bad game from Cam Ward.
You know, the stats aren't overwhelming.
He throws another interception,
so people are going to cling on to that,
you know, six straight with an interception, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
But honestly, this game,
this game was kind of what I expected
from the Cam Ward experience coming in.
The Titans are a bad football team.
They're getting beat by a better football team.
The coaching is holding them back.
You know, Cam's trying to make play.
throws for some yards, made some crazy completions.
The one deep down the middle to I.O. Manor, a couple to Chim Dekay.
The one to Chigakonkwo late in the game.
Like, Camphor threw some absolute rockets and some lasers.
He made some good decisions out there as well.
Like, this wasn't a bad game from Cam Ward.
Wasn't a great game where he, you know, set the world on fire or anything like that.
But again, this is kind of the type of games that I was hoping for.
The Titans lose
They're a bad team
I thought they would win five games this year
Now they're not gonna win five games
But I didn't think the Titans would be good
So like the Titans lose to a better football team
All right
But Cam Ward has some flashes
Make some really good throws
Does some good things
Check
Chim DK
Young Weapon
7 catches 93 yards
leads the league in all-purpose yards right now, or the AFC at least.
Seven catches on eight targets.
Has an explosive 21-yard catch.
Chim D-K is really starting to come on as a weapon for the Titans' offense.
They literally got rid of Tyler Lockett
because they're like, hey, we're going with D-K,
and D-K and Kame have really been connected.
The last two weeks, 163 yards, 11 catches.
Really good stuff from Chim D.K.
I know I.O. Manor had a couple of drops,
but four catches, 52 yards,
looking like a competent wide receiver 3 in the future.
Gunner Helm catches a touchdown, two catches, 23 yards.
Taj Spears has 82 yards of total offense,
a couple of catches, scores a touchdown on the run.
Like, you know, it's not all bad.
You know what I mean?
It's really not all bad.
On defense, Kevin Winston gets in.
Cedric Gray, makes some tackles to Vandre Sweat,
gets another sack.
I mean, he pushed Daniel Jones out of bounds,
counts all the same thing. You know, quite honestly,
this is the kind of loss that I thought the Titans would take this year.
Where the young guys step up, do some good stuff,
the team clearly isn't good enough, the coaching clearly isn't good enough.
Okay. All right.
Nobody thought they were, this is just one of those moments where
the Titans always find a way.
The Titans always seem to find a way to make us man.
Um, but I can't be mad after this one.
I really can't.
This is about what I thought games would be like.
Now, Mike McCoy, coaching like a coward, is frustrating.
But you can't look at this game and say Cam Ward played bad
or that this game was his fault or anything like that.
This is just the reality of where the Titans are out as a team
and what our expectation should have been coming in.
But I'm very encouraged by the play of Cam.
Ward in this one. Again, Jim
D.K. turning into a weapon. Elich I.O.
Manor, solid, valuable.
Possession guy.
Gunner Helm is tight end
1. It's about time. Honestly, I know
we're going to freak out here and there were bad
moments, but the O-line wasn't
that bad for most of the game.
Spears made some plays.
This is just, again,
this is one of those games
where I simply cannot be mad.
This is not a terrible outcome for
Titans considering the circumstances. Like, what did we expect?
I was angry at previous games.
The Broncos game. Furious.
The Texans game. Furious. The Raiders game.
Furious with how they played football.
Angry throughout.
But this game, the Patriots game, you know, it's hard for me to be too upset.
This is just what I expected from this football.
team when they play against good football teams.
These aren't the type of teams that the Titans are going to have a chance against.
I think the Titans might be able to compete with the Texans after they're by.
I think the Titans will be able to compete with the Jags.
Those are better football teams, but they're not as good as the Colts.
They're not as good as the Patriots.
You know what I mean?
The Titans can compete with the Browns, the Saints, the Jags again.
Those are the games where I would expect the Titans
come out and maybe possibly have a chance to compete.
Not these games here.
So again, I think this, if you were realistic about the Titans,
this is one of those games at Indianapolis
where you're like, yeah, this is kind of an okay loss at the end of the day.
It's not the worst one that they've had this year.
But with that being said, you know, that's kind of the positive read of it.
At the end of the day, though, this team is super, super far away.
Do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought.

fans, let's continue and cap off today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast,
recapping the Tennessee Titans 38 to 14 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Mike McCoy, coaching like a coward out there, absolutely unbelievable.
He threw away any shot that the Tennessee Titans had to be competitive in this game,
punting on those fourth and short opportunities,
fourth and medium opportunities that he had at the each end of halftime.
But a lot to like in this game.
Cam Ward played bad in this game
and the rookie wide receivers
were clearly the most productive guys on offense
even a guy like Tajay Spears
finally got going there was a lot to like
but let's finish with some realism
because there was a lot not to like
in this game and I'm looking out there
and I talked about it last week
but I'm looking out there
and I cannot believe
the players that are on the field
so let's finish with a little good news
bad news
The good news
The good news folks
Is that some crappy teams won
The Jets
The 0 and 7 New York Jets
Got to win
That's huge for the Titans draft pick
That's massive for the Titans draft pick
The Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins
Beat the Atlanta Falcons
The Dolphins now have two wins
huge. So zero wins
goes to one with the Jets
one win goes to two with the dolphins.
And then
to make it even better
the Baltimore Ravens
win at 2 and 5.
They have two wins now.
That is all great news
for the Tennessee Titans.
That is great news. Wonderful.
As a matter of fact,
that they're going to be in a great spot to get their draft pick.
The bad news is
by God they need that pick so bad
Look how terrible this team is
At one point in time during this game
At one point in time during this game
The Titans' defensive line
was Allie Gay
Shy Tuttle
C.J. Ravenel
And I'm still not convinced
as a real player
and Jalen Harrell
That was the Titans' defensive line in the game
Jalen Harrell and Allie Gay at the edge
C.J. Ravenel
and Shy Tuttle on the defensive line
with Jalen Armar Davis
and Daryl Baker Jr.
At cornerback.
And I'm just like
what are we doing?
You know?
Think about that.
That's going to be one of those things
We're like 10 years from now we, you know, joke about how bad the team was.
I put out, you know, this tweet, hey, this is your defensive line that's in the game right now.
It's unbelievable how bad that is.
And, you know, you keep going down the roster.
Jarvis Brindley Jr. makes the game-winning play for the Jets as Jalen Armar Davis gets destroyed
and Darrell Baker Jr. gets mossed by Michael Pittman Jr.
Both of them took turns.
Michael Pittman, and then Alec Pierce,
like they just dominated the Titans outside corners.
But think about it.
Lloyd Cushenberry got smoked in this game.
After the Achilles, is he going to be worth the money at any point in time?
Probably not.
The Titans probably need a new center.
When the Titans are good,
if the Titans get good during Cam Ward's rookie contract,
they're going to need a new center.
They're going to need a right guard.
they're going to need two more decent wide receivers,
including an alpha number one wide receiver.
They're going to need another tight end
because Chigaconkwo is gone.
You need two good tight ends.
They're probably going to need two running backs.
They're not going to keep Taj Spears
after his rookie contract is up after next year.
And I think Tony Pollard's gone this offseason.
He's worn down.
He is not the same running back anymore.
Titans need two edge rushers.
No matter whether Femi is the number three edge rusher
because he never develops
Whether Femi becomes a number two rusher like you hope,
you need an alpha edge rusher,
and you need your third tertiary edge rusher
that can give you complex packages in the rush game.
They're going to need another linebacker next to Cedric Gray.
They're going to need another safety next to Kevin Winston
because Xavier Woods got her, Amani Hooker got banged up,
but he's just absolutely terrible, terrible.
Quadra Diggs is old already and slow.
You know that he's not a part of the future.
And then you probably need three cornerbacks.
And something that we're going to talk about this week is
all of the Roger McCreary trade reports,
just tell me that the Titans don't want to re-sign him.
And if you're not going to re-sign Roger McCreary after the year,
you're going to trade him.
Well, you're done with Legerius Sneed.
You traded Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
That means you need three cornerbacks.
And Joey Sly, give me a break.
The Titans need a kicker.
So you need a center, a right guard, two wide receivers,
a tight end, two more running backs, two more edge rushers,
a linebacker, a safety, three cornerbacks, and a kicker.
And Johnny Hecker's 35 at punter, so you probably need one of those two.
I mean, the Titans literally only have answers at like five or six spots.
Again, not for right now, but let's say 2027 when the team is good.
That's how far away they are.
So the good news, the good news is
the Titans draft pit got a lot better
this week.
Got a lot better.
The bad news is
that they're earning it.
The roster is toast.
And even some of the guys who seem like answers right now
probably won't be answers by the time the team fixes all these problems.
And look, how many teams have all these answers?
Probably not many.
Only the best teams.
but if the Titans want to be a really good team
that's all the spots that they have to fill.
We'll probably talk about this again
later this week and have more of an extended discussion
on the future of every position.
That's probably a by-week discussion next week, actually,
more realistically.
But like, it just makes you realize
boy, they better have some good picks
because they're going to need them
and they better go ahead
and get on the line right now
and get those trade talks going.
There should be no expense spared
get some picks
because these holes
aren't going to fill themselves
that's for sure
but with that being said
that is going to do it for today's edition
of Locked on Titans
the team moves to 1 and 7 on the year
the nightmare continues
I'll be back with you guys tomorrow
we'll probably talk more trade stuff
probably get into Cam Ward's performance
because I thought it was pretty good
talk about some Jim Dike and Gunner Helm too
because they continue to impress
But again, that's going to do it for me today, folks, just told you that.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland, and this was Locked on Titans.
