The Tennessee Titans cut Will Levis as part of their mandated roster trim and it was a move that was best for both parties. Holding on to Levis to see if a trade could materialize was smart, but having Levis around isn't what is best for Cam Ward's development or for Levis himself. Xavier Restrepo also made the roster after being an undrafted free agent last year. Restrepo's journey is commendable and even if his status doesn't last, this is an awesome moment and keeping him around is best for Ward as well. As the roster was cut down to 53 we saw the Titans part ways with unexpected names on offense like Bryce Oliver and Cordell Volson, leaving questions about special teams and offensive line depth. The Tennessee Titans are cutting Will Devis and keeping Xavier Restrepo. And my favorite part about both those moves is they help Cam Ward. I'll explain on today's edition of Locked on Titans. We're going to talk about some of the places where I think the Titans could still add on waivers like the secondary in defense. We're going to talk about the offensive side of the ball

where there were some surprise cuts, like a guy like Bryce Oliver. But we got to start with the two biggest pieces of news from cut down day. Will Levis being waived by the Titans and Xavier Restrepo, making the team and both of those moves are good for Cam Ward. And that's really where I want to start. You have the cut of Will Levis, which since the Tennessee Titans drafts,

Cam Ward since it was obvious that they were going to draft Cam Ward. I have been telling you that Will Levis cannot be on the roster for a season with Cam Ward. Last year, until he decided to have surprise surgery on his shoulder, say that five times fast. I was telling you the Titans have to trade them. They have to find a way to trade him. You can't have Will Levis in the room with Cam Ward all year long. It doesn't make any sense. And the surgery removed that as a possibility.

You come in this year and the Titans have tried. They've given Will Levis ample opportunities. There were even quarterbacks that got traded, backup quarterbacks that got traded on Sunday. And the Titans clearly could not get anything out of Will Levis. And if they can't get anything out of him in a trade, there is no need to have him on the team. He's a free agent after the end of the season. He is not coming back here. They're not getting a comp pick for his services.

you can see how Will Levis is valued around the NFL by the fact that no one would even give a seventh round pick in the future to bring him, despite a lot of teams needing backup quarterback options. So Will Levis was never going to be on a roster with Cam Ward. That's something I've been pretty dead set on, and he shouldn't be. At the end of the day, we need everybody in the quarterback room doing their best to support Cam Ward. That's what your job is if you're in the quarterback room for the Tennessee Titans, whether that's the quarterback coach, whether that's Mitch Trubisky. Mitch Trubisky isn't thinking in his head at night. I can still be a starter in the NFL.

I can lead a franchise and be the franchise player. I can still do it. Mitch Trubisky, those days are gone. Mitch Trubisky knows I am here to support a young quarterback and teach him this system, which I know. Hendon Hooker knows he's never going to be a starter in the NFL. He wants to keep a career in the NFL and helping Cam Ward and being another set of eyes

for the young quarterback that the Titans are trying to make the franchise, that is how you keep your job in Tennessee. Will Levis's motivations, and I don't blame Will Levis for this. This doesn't make Will Levis a bad guy, but Will Levis's motivations are clearly, I can be a franchise quarterback still. I am one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the NFL. I need a new opportunity.

These people gave up on me. Why wouldn't Will Levis feel like that? I don't blame him for that, but no matter how you want to slice it, Will Levis's primary motivations were never going to be, how can I make Cam Ward better? That's not going to be what's the number one thought in his mind.

So it's best for everyone, and I've been saying this for months and months and months. It's best for everyone. If Will Levis goes off and gets a new opportunity with a new team and they get him out of the quarterback room with Cam Ward. So this is a good thing for Cam Ward and supporting Cam Ward. and then Xavier Restrepo. The fan favorite,

gritty wide receiver makes the 53-man roster and boy does he deserve it. Xavier Restrepo, 100% deserve this opportunity without any doubts. And what he's done, he led the Titans with,

I think it was eight catches, 97 yards in the preseason. Every time Xavier Restrepo gets on the football field. He produces. He does multiple things. He gets open. He catches the ball and he does what he's supposed to do. He may not be the biggest, the strongest, the fastest. He may not be good at tackling people on special teams. He may not be good at returning punts. He may not be a lot of things. But what Xavier Restrepo is is someone who can help this football team.

and you know who it helps the most? Again, Cam Ward. Because now, no matter what, Cam Ward has the security blanket role in his offense ready to go. It's supposed to be Wondale Robbins. Option routes. In the slot. Choice routes. Short yardage. Convert on third and short. Keep the chains moving. easy yards on early downs to give third manageable. That is what Wondale Robinson's role is within this offense. And if Wondale Robinson were not to be out there,

there is nobody else in the Titans top five who truly can replicate that role. Calvin Ridley is a speed guy who's more of a straight line burner, stretch the defense. I would say Chim Dike is the same thing. Neither of them are the quick Danny Amandola, West Welker, Chester Rogers. go, Kyle Phillips, like type slot wide receivers that Xavier Restrepo and Wondell Robinson on. It's just a different skill set when you're 6 foot, 6 foot 1 long striding speed guy. So having Xavier Restrepo on the roster protects Cam Ward and make sure that they have somebody who can adequately fill that role.

Because without Xavier Restrepo, they simply don't. and shout out to Wondale Robinson because if you're Xavier Restrepo, Wondale Robinson getting signed here might have been the best thing that ever happened to you because it creates more value for Xavier Restrepo's role and his skill set as a football player because that is Wondale Robinson's skill set.

And the best thing about it is too, not only if Wondale Robinson were to miss any time or whatever, not only do you have somebody who can adequately mirror that skill set, but it just so happens to be the guy that Cam Ward may have more chemistry with than any other wide receiver on Earth. So it's a double whammy for the Titans. Again, whether it's getting Levis out of the quarterback room, keeping Xavier Restrepo around in the wide receiver room,

both of those things are great for Cam Ward. They support your young quarterback, and that is exactly what the Titans should be focused on right now, whatever is best for Cam Ward. And Xavier Restrepo clearly is. I'm very fired up about it. I mean, Restrepo, a fan favorite as well. I mean, a lot of people wanted Restrepo to make this football team.

So the fact that he did, and listen, we also got to have a little, can we have a little reality check? I know everybody's excited. We're all fired up about Xavier Restrepo making the team, but let me just say this. there is at least an opportunity or a possibility, I will say. There Restrepo is cut later this week. And then the Titans move him to the practice squad

after other teams have picked guys up on waivers, put their practice squad together, blah, blah, it's possible that X could still be cut and then move to the practice squad eventually. So let's remember that that is a possibility that could happen. But right now, I'm sure he's very excited. I'm very excited, and I think that they should keep him around.

And the fact that they didn't keep Bryce Oliver a seventh wide receiver, that's a good sign that Restrepo may actually get to stick around. So we'll talk about Bryce Oliver, who was a little bit of a surprise cut, and we'll talk about some options on waivers, some guys who have been cut, who I'm very interested in for the Tennessee Titans. Let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast. Again, we're breaking down some of the roster moves. The Tennessee Titans have made so far.

Will Levis, Xavier Restrepo, Levis, All for Strepo in. That's obviously the big. biggest news of the day, but the Titans have made other moves, and there are players who are getting cut around the NFL, who I think make a lot of sense for the Tennessee Titans. But Bryce Oliver, being waved by the Titans, something that kind of caught me off

Bryce Oliver was considered somebody who had a really, really good shot to make this team. He's been a special team's dynamo when he's been healthy. He's a guy with great physical traits. He's big. He's strong. Things like that. But there are some concerns with Bryce Oliver that I've been talking about as of late. Not really that great at catching the football.

Will Levis hit him with the ball a couple of times in the second preseason game and he dropped it multiple times. The guy's always banged up. And it's like, yeah, he helps on special teams, but how good must he be on special teams to make up for the fact that he has little potential as an actual receiver? Why wouldn't we just keep an extra linebacker? Why wouldn't they keep one of the tied ends? You can find somebody at a different position to be a gunner for you.

It's harder to find somebody who can actually help you on offense. And again, like Xavier Restrepo, who mirrors a skill set that you don't have anybody else on the team that they can do it. You know, so that is something that I found, I don't want to say shocking, maybe a little bit surprising. I'll say interesting at minimum that Bryce Oliver didn't make it,

but the reasons why he didn't make it aren't really a surprise. If that makes sense, I'm surprised that he didn't make it, but I'm not surprised by the reasons that he didn't make it because you saw him. And I have said all along, I would value Xavier Restrepo

over what Bryce Oliver brings to the table. So the Titans are going to have six wide receivers. They're going to have the top five that we've known all along of Cornell Tate, Calvin Ridley, Wondale Robinson, Chim D.K., Elyke, Iow Manor. They're going to have Xavier Restrepo in there, and no Bryce Oliver, no KJ Osborne. Both of those guys were on the bubble and ended up getting cut. Tyrone Montgomery and Hank Beattie, all right? The two undrafted free agents, they might have a shot to make it onto the practice squad.

I think Hank Beattie especially is a practice squad option. Tyrone Montgomery, I just think he's too old. show enough. I think Hank Beattie is more of a practice squad option, and he becomes the new Mason Kinsey. And Mason Kinsey gave a heartfelt goodbye to Titans' nation. Doesn't look like he's coming back, even on the practice squad. I think they informed him that they're totally done with him.

From here on out, six years with the Tennessee Titans. And I know Xavier... Or Xavier Restrepo, Mason Kinsey is a polarizing figure for Titans fans. Some people hated him because he just stayed around for so long. And I have coined the term roster pirate. So Mason Kinsey was the ultimate roster pirate. But let's be honest for a second. Whether you love or hate Mason Kinsey, whatever put it aside, he may be the greatest Tennessee Titans practice squad player of all time. Six years with the team, that longevity is a guy who spent the majority of that on the practice squad. That is incredible. That just does not happen in the

the fact that through multiple coaching staffs, multiple offensive systems, multiple quarterbacks, Mason Kinsey was able to stick around with this franchise as an employee. That is impressive. And listen, practice squad guys, they're still making, you know, 400 to 500,000 dollars a year to play football. What a great job. We would all do that for the most part. Maybe some of you guys are millionaires out there making million dollars a year. But I would make $500,000 a year to play football.

and you're going to tell me because I'm on the practice squad, I'm a loser. You know, like we all had to quit playing football in middle school, in high school, low-level college. Mason Kinsey is an absolute legend. Barry College. We talked about it with Restrepo, not the biggest, not the strongest, not the fastest.

To have a six-year NFL career with the same team. Constantly be available. Make plays on special teams. Think about the catch he had from Cam Ward against the Saints on Alante Taylor who's on the team now. The drop in the bucket he got from Cam Ward one time on the rub route on the fourth down. Mason Kinsey has showed up in the preseason consistently

when they called him up. He did his job. So no, he was never good enough to be a full-time roster guy. No, he didn't make Pro Bowls and win or lose the Titans games and all these other things that the actual greatest players in Tennessee Titans history have done. I'm not saying he's one of those.

And to some of you, being one of the greatest practice squad players in the history of this franchise may be the best. Some of you may scoff at that like, that's not cool. But I think that really loses sight of what life is all about. Mason Kinsey is an incredible story. And again, for my money, the greatest Tennessee Titans practice squad player of all time, who always did his job, always made players.

when he was counting on and got the absolute most out of his talent. And more than anything, he gave a crap. He loved being a Tennessee Titan. He loved the fans. He loved the team. And he would do anything to help this football team for six years. Shout out to you, Mason Kenji. You're a legend in my book,

even if it's not for, you know, full team reasons. Shout out to Mason for that. But on the offensive line, Cordell Volson also has been, cut. Gone. That is, I don't want to say it's a shocker. Okay? Because it's not an outright shocker. Surprise. But it is interesting because you would think that the Titans just want to have a little bit of veteran depth. They're going, Brendan Crenshaw, Dixon made the team.

They're going with a ton of youth on the offensive line. And Volson, I thought could be a guy who stayed around just to be fodder, to be cut. You know what I mean? You keep Volson, you hold that ninth position on the offensive line and you cut him as the week goes because that's something I think's going to happen. And speaking of that,

there are some guys on waivers that I think could be very interesting for an offensive tackle spot on the roster. Yeah, Brendan Crenshaw Dixon as your young swing tackle but maybe a guy like Kieran Adenagy who got waived by

the Chicago Bears. He was a third round pick a couple of years ago, project-type guy with good physical traits. Why not bring him in and develop him and see what you might get out of him? Wanya Morris, who spent a ton of time with the Kansas City Chiefs, was waived by the Atlanta Falcons. He was traded from the Chiefs to the Falcons this all season and was waived. I think that could make a ton of sense for the Titans. Outside of that, tight end, running back,

I don't think the Titans need too much. De Ernest Johnson was cut by the Tennessee Titans. no surprise there, in my opinion. Kyler Granson, going to make the team at tight end. We still await the status of David Martin Robinson. Man, I got to tell you, the rosters had to be cut down at 6 p.m.

It's nearly 6.30 p.m. Eastern time. The Tennessee Titans have not put out their roster cuts. They haven't put out the official 53-man roster. They should be penalized by the NFL for this tardiness. But we await to see the status. of David Martin Robinson, but with Kyler Grantson being in, that does make things dangerous. I don't know if the Tennessee Titans should keep four tight ends like that.

But I think we know the three tight end or the three running backs, Tony Pollard, Tage Spears, Nick Singleton, Julius Chestnut, most likely going to make it for special teams prowess. Michael Carter would be the other guy, though, that I would look at. I think Kelle Mullings going to IR. We also heard about Dorian Musai going to IR, on the defensive side of the ball. There are going to be some things like that

that we need to pay attention to. But with that, we do got to move to the defensive side of the ball because there were some moves over there. And I think there are quite a few options at cornerback, at safety, at edge rusher that could make sense for the Tennessee Titans on waivers. Do you want to let you know that today's episode

Again, reacting to the Tennessee Titans roster moves that have happened so far. We got Will Levis being cut. We have Xavier Restrepo making the team, Bryce Oliver getting cut, some of the other guys on offense being added. I talked about some names on offense on waivers that I would be interested in, but there's even more names on the defensive side of the ball that I would be interested. But looking at the defensive side of the ball, one of the big surprises that happened early on, in my opinion,

was Malik Herring. Malik Herring was cut by the Tennessee Titans. He was an option on the edge. We know the Titans, top four edge rushers with Jermaine. Johnson, Jacob Martin, Keldrick Falk, Femiola-Dajio, who would be that fifth guy? Would they have a fifth guy? It's not going to be Malik Herring. I think a guy like Truman Jones could get that spot.

I think there's a pretty good chance that he could get that spot. I like Truman Jones. I have been talking up Truman Jones for quite some time now. And according to Paul Kaharski, Truman Jones did make the team. So there's your fifth edge rusher, like, I've been expecting. I would imagine Tono Pasanga did not make it.

Who else? Malik Herring. Jalen Holmes is somebody who's going to be on that cut line, but I don't think ultimately is going to make it. Maybe they consider him more of an inside guide. Kalin Saunders at defensive tackle on the defensive line. Ernest Brown, Timmy Horn also did not make

the team. So again, you're looking at Jalen Holmes or Jackie Marshall right now on who is actually going to get that fifth defensive tackle spot if the Titans have one. I think it's going to end up going to Jackie Marshall. And I wouldn't be surprised to be honest with you if the Titans just keep both of them. We're going to get word on that soon.

But again, a lot of moves on the defensive side of the ball. We know our five edge rushers now. What about defensive tackle? We go to linebacker where Dorian Musai, this kind of clears things up. Dorian Musai, who is a very good, good special teams player is going to start the season on IR. And that's something that I hinted at earlier in the week.

He's got a little bit of a foot issue. Robert Sala clarified that after practice or after the preseason game. We know the top four at linebacker. Cedric Gray, Cody Barton, Anthony Hill, James Williams. All right, there we go. But were they going to keep five? Were they going to keep six? Muhammad Di Abadi, Dori and Mousai, who is going to be the guy there? Now I think this clears it up. Dorian Musai goes to I.R. the abody, going to be on the team. That makes a lot of sense.

Five linebackers there. And then at cornerback. Alante Taylor, Cordell Flott, Marcus Harris, that's who we knew. Josh Williams, again, this is another guy.

We've been talking about this since last week. Josh Williams, a little bit banged up. Peck injury, he's going to start the season on IR, according to a report from Justin Mello. And shout out to Mello, who does a great job this time of year

with reports about who made the roster. and who didn't. But regardless, one of those reports was Josh Williams going to IR. So that makes the cornerback room more complicated. You know what I mean? But Micah Robinson and Eric Hallett

did make the team. So Michael Robinson is going to be the number four cornerback. Eric Hallett is the backup slot. I think the Tennessee Titans still need to add one more cornerback. And Kair Elam, who has been here before, former first rounder,

for the Buffalo Bills. Sean Murphy Bunting, who has been here before for the Tennessee Titans, I think would make a lot of sense. Murphy Bunting is a big, long, physical zone-style cornerback. I know that he's probably not as good right now as the level of player that he was with the Titans

when he was here a couple of years ago. I understand that. He's a couple of years older. It didn't go great in Arizona. I know. but Sean Murphy bunting as your fifth cornerback, your fourth cornerback, I would rather have Sean Murphy bunting than Michael Robinson if one of those guys had to play, right?

So I'd be interested in bringing Sean Murphy bunting back. That would make some sense in my eyes. At safety. Again, Eric Hallett, technically a safety, but he's been playing nickel for the Titans. We know a Monty Hooker, Kevin Winston, Tony Adams. Okay, and now we have Eric Hallett. Will the Titans bring in a fifth safety?

That's what I want to see. There's a guy who got cut by Seattle. His name is Anthony Bell. He's a safety, but he is a heck of a special teams player. I would be interested if the Titans would bring in a guy like that. But I think in the secondary, there are going to be more additions and more waiver claims for the Titans than we are going to see at other positions.

And edge rusher, I think, again, is a spot true. Truman Jones is a guy who I think he made the roster, but how long is Truman Jones going to be on the roster? I think a guy who the Titans could add, who could make some sense, is Adisa Isaac, who was a mid-round pick out of Penn State two years ago. I think Isaac could make some sense for the Tennessee Titans and be an interesting fit. So there are a lot of guys who are getting cut right now

at the Titans' weakness spots. And I know that the instant reaction, the negative fans, the haters out there, their instant reaction is going to be like, if we're picking up guys from other teams' cuts, why do we expect them to be any good? And yes, Cameron Hall, I agree with you as well. Anybody standing in the track?

Sam Williams was cut by the Dallas Cowboys. If you guys remember, if you guys remember, I wanted Sam Williams. as a depth signing early in free agency. He was actually one of my predictions that the Titans would sign Sam Williams. He was in Dallas last year with Aaron Whitecotton

and with Dave Borganzi, the Titans linebacker coach, Mike Borganzi's brother. So there's a lot of connection there and I think having another veteran edge rusher would make a ton of sense. So I am all about Sam Williams as well. I'm with you guys there.

But one thing we have to remember here is the roster is not done. This may be the initial roster, but a lot of these guys who made the team now could just be cut in the coming days. Because like I was saying, it may be players getting cut on other teams and that sounds bad,

but like the Titans, the Titans had a pretty strong wide receiver group. KJ Osborne might be able to go somewhere like Miami Dolphins, for example. The Las Vegas Raiders. For example, KJ Osborne might be able to go somewhere and get a job and deserve that job because the Titans had a good group at wide receiver. Whereas on the flip side, the Titans do not have a good group at safety.

They do not have a good group at cornerback. And other teams may be deeper at those spots. They may be deeper at edge rusher. They may be deeper at tight end. And that'll give the Titans an opportunity to pick off teams who have more roster talent at spots where the Titans are very, very thin. Bishop Fitzgerald, the undrafted free agent,

safety didn't make the team. That's a guy that I've been high on for quite some time. I'm not shocked that he didn't make the team by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm certainly hoping that he can get a practice squad option. We're hearing now a report from Justin Mello that Michael Carter didn't make the team, so I think it makes it even more obvious

that it's going to be Julius Chestnut that man's that fourth-throft. running back spot if there is a fourth running back on the team. I am just holding out right now, sticking out, refreshing the Titans page, seeing if they'll make the roster official. We know pretty much everything that we kind of need to know what's left to figure out Julius Chestnut. What about Jackson Slater, Pat Coogan on the offensive line,

David Martin Robinson at tight end, Jackie Marshall, Jalen Holmes, at defensive tackle. Still haven't confirmed Mohamed Di Abadi at linebacker, but I feel pretty convinced about that. Backup safety will a Kendall Brooks, will a Jerich Reed make it because we know that Fitzgerald and Canteen did not. Mario Goodrich at cornerback. Maybe it could be an option.

We know Jalen McMurray, Caligan, Corey Mayfield did not make the team. so we have eliminated just about everybody. We're down to about five players who we need to know if they're going to make the team. So I am admittedly holding out for that. This is not the most elite podcast content that I've ever made in my life.

But at some point, the show must go on. The Titans have not dropped the information entirely, but we know basically all the positions that matter. Right? We know basically all the information that we need. So, we'll see if the Titans add people in the coming days. I expect them to. If anything truly tremendous happens with the roster,

a big trade or something like that. Maybe the Titans do something like that. We'll be here to break it down. But Zevio Restrepo made it. Will Levis did not. We have the majority of the news on the roster. I'm going to have another piece of content later tonight on the Titans hit channel.
