Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans DOMINATE DAY 3 with Nick Singleton as ATHLETIC PLAYMAKER & Offensive Line Additions

Episode Date: April 25, 2026

The Tennessee Titans capped off the NFL Draft on Day 3 with a ton of athletic upside including Nick Singleton from Penn State. Singleton is an extremely gifted athlete that is electric out of the back...field and is a perfect addition to the backfield. To help block for the running backs, the Titans added multiple offensive linemen. While these rookies could turn into starters, the Titans offensive line concern for 2026 is hard to feel comfortable with. Finally, the Titans added a defensive lineman and a tight end with high upside due to their athletic profile and that is exactly they kind of dart throw they should be making.   LOCKED ON TITANS EVERYDAY CLUB: https://lockedontitans.supercast.com/   Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel:  https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitans   TicTacTitans Merchandise: https://dixons-dream.square.site/shop...   Follow Tyler on Twitter @TicTacTitans   Follow the show on Facebook @LockedOnTitansPod   Subscribe to the Locked On Titans YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@LockedOnTitans   Everydayer ClubIf you never miss an episode, it’s time to make it official. Starting point is 00:00:52 for the Tennessee Titans again. I thought they went after athletic upside and offensive line depth. And I think there is a good chance that a lot of these players are going to be real contributors. on the Tennessee Titans this season. Now, before we dive into it, do want to thank you for making Locked on Titans, your first list in each and every day.
Starting point is 00:01:12 Remember, Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year round, always for free. Make sure that you get subscribed, stay subscribed. It's your team every day. Speaking of every day, shout out to my everydayers out there.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Tune in Monday through Friday. Couldn't do it without you guys. If you aren't an everydayer, you need to be one. I'm going to have a ton of draft content, breaking down how these guys fit into the new roster. the Titans have OTAs, mini-camps, mandatory minicamp, and it will be training camp before you know it.
Starting point is 00:01:40 So make sure that you stay locked in with the number one Tennessee Titans podcast in the world. Locked on Titans. But with that being said, again, I thought the Tennessee Titans went two different routes on day three of the NFL draft. The first route they went with was athletic upside. And I think nobody exemplifies the athletic upside moniker
Starting point is 00:02:00 more than Nicholas Singleton, the running back out of Penn State. I absolutely love this selection. The Tennessee Titans took Nick Singleton at 165, and I got to tell you, this is the type of running back selection the Tennessee Titans need to live off of. The Titans don't need to be taking running backs top five
Starting point is 00:02:19 in the NFL draft in the first round. What the Tennessee Titans need to do is they need to take running backs in the fourth, the fifth, the sixth round, over and over again every single year and cycle through them until they find a good one or until they age out of the process. And I think Tage Spears probably going to age out of the process this year.
Starting point is 00:02:39 I don't think that the Tennessee Titans are going to bring Tage Spears back. And I think a guy like Nick Singleton could be the new Tage Spears. Singleton is an explosive running back, 6 foot 220 pounds. So super explosive, good out of the back field, more of a receiving back at this stage of things. But again, a receiving back that 6 foot 220 with great home run speed, straight-line speed. The problem with Singleton is, just not really,
Starting point is 00:03:07 I don't want to use the word intelligent, but the mental athleticism of playing running back. He just doesn't showcase it often enough. Spatial awareness, setting up his blocks, good timing, tempo. He just runs into the back of his offensive linemen,
Starting point is 00:03:22 has a hard time seeing the hole, hitting the hole, better in zone runs than he has the gap runs because he can just cut and get up field. it's not a design place where he has to wait for the tempo. You make your own tempo when you're in zone. Now you've got to run with good tempo and make sure that you don't overrun things and you find the cutback at the right time.
Starting point is 00:03:41 And, you know, there's an element of that no matter what you're doing at the running back position. But that is the downside with Singleton. He just doesn't have the feel and the instincts for the running back position. But straight line speed, catching the ball out of the back field. He's awesome at maybe the best receiving back in the draft outside of Jeremiah Love. Like, I think that's a possibility.
Starting point is 00:04:03 And again, at that size, if the Tennessee Titans can kind of coach him up on how to have more feel and instinct as a runner, which I doubt. But again, we're talking about a backup running back. We're not talking about a superstar running back. We're not talking about the lead running back in your running back committee or anything like that.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Like, I don't think he's capable, but can you expect that? No, I don't think that you can expect that. But again, as part of a committee, a guy with that size, that speed, catch the ball out of the backfield, and he can be a factor in the special teams unit. He has had quite a bit of return yards
Starting point is 00:04:40 throughout his career in college. He's kind of a crazy guy because he went for a thousand yards rushing as a freshman, was awesome in 2024 again, took a big step back and was basically the backup at Penn State last year. He's an interesting case, quite frankly, but again, it's athletic upside
Starting point is 00:04:58 that the Titans are going for on day three with a running back. And I think that's exactly what they should be doing. Another guy who I would say is an athletic upside category is the pick at 184 Jackie Marshall, the defensive lineman out of Baylor, 6 foot 2, 2, 290 pounds. This is Robert Salas kind of interior defensive lineman, not 360 pounds of Andre sweat.
Starting point is 00:05:22 I tried to tell you guys this all along from the moment that Robert Salah got hired that this is his kind of interior. defensive lineman, a gap penetrator. He's a great athlete, twitchy, interior defensive lineman, ton of versatility. He can play on the edge.
Starting point is 00:05:37 He can play at the one tech. He can play at the three tech. He has great football character as well. He just needs to improve his technique. He hasn't been playing on the defensive line his entire life. He added 50 pounds as an edge rusher to play on the interior. So he's a guy who's dedicated to the sport. He doesn't have great length, great technique.
Starting point is 00:05:57 but if the Tennessee Titans can catch his technique up with his athletic ability, they're going to have an awesome backup to Jeffrey Simmons and a guy who can move up and down the defensive line and make plays and shoot gaps and things like that. So again, it needs to be coached up but has insane athletic upside. I would say Jaron Kenick, the Canick, the Titans' final pick, 225, the tight end that they took.
Starting point is 00:06:26 6 foot 2, 234. That's a small tight end. He's more of a, some people might see him as a wide receiver type. He used to play linebacker, got moved to tight end, his final year in college, had 500 yards receiving. It's kind of that move tight end
Starting point is 00:06:44 where, you know, think about like a Johnu Smith type or a Chikonkwo type. I think he's going to come in, he's going to play on special teams right away because he was a former linebacker or used to physicality in tackling. he's a guy who's got athletic upside to be a matchup tight end with speed
Starting point is 00:07:02 as the seventh round pick to get one of these tight ends in a really good tight end class I love taking a chance on that athletic upside so Nick Singleton Jackie Marshall Jaron Kanek all athletic upside plays for the Titans
Starting point is 00:07:20 but then we get to the offensive line the Tennessee Titans go offence offensive line depth with Fernando Carmona at 142, and then Pat Coogan at 194. And I love Pat Coogan, but I'll give Fernando Carmona his moment. 6'5, 315. Offensive lineman out of Arkansas, he's versatile. He could play right guard, left guard, maybe big enough to play some tackle in a pinch.
Starting point is 00:07:53 You don't want him doing that, but he can. I almost said Floyd. It's Duke Maniweather, who is one of the best, maybe the best, definitely the most well-known, offensive line trainer
Starting point is 00:08:07 in the entire world. He trained Fernando Carmona, and he said on Twitter after the pick that he took the biggest leap within their program of anybody that they had. They said that his best position, this is his trainer, said that Fernando Carmona's best position
Starting point is 00:08:24 may ultimately be at center. 6-5-3-15 center Fernando Carmona is tough physical, strong a decent athlete as well but he did stomp on a dude's ankle during a game in college football one time like Blatent like stomped on the dude's ankle
Starting point is 00:08:46 after the play on purpose now he said that he learned from it and he was embarrassed by it and like but the counterpointed to that is I want my offensive linemen to be a little a little dirty. You know what I mean? I want him to have that little mean streak to him.
Starting point is 00:09:02 They're offensive linemen. That's what I want. So Fernando Carmona, we all think about guard. He's a guard. But his trainer and the best offensive line trainer in the world said he might be best at center.
Starting point is 00:09:16 So you can't rule that out either. And I know that you're thinking, well, if he's a center, why would they take Pat Coogan? Pat Coogan from Indiana, just won a national championship. 6'5, 310, very similar size to a guy of Fernando Carmona. Thick, technically sound, nasty player in Pat Coogan.
Starting point is 00:09:38 He's a fiery leader who would do these fired-up pre-game warm-up speeches. Toughness would play through injury. He's not the best athlete. He doesn't have great anchor, not great length, but he had 483 pass blocking snaps last year, gave up zero sack, zero quarterback hits, and only 10 pressures allowed. That's a pretty good player right there. So it reminds me of last year on day three,
Starting point is 00:10:08 the Titans just threw resources at pass catcher. They said, Chim Dikeye Manor, Gunnard Helm, one of you guys is going to be good. That's what the Titans did here. They say, I don't know if Fernando Carmona will play guard or center. I don't know a Pat Coogan will make the team, but we're going to throw both those guys in there. We're going to throw Jackson Slater in there,
Starting point is 00:10:30 Cordell Voulson, Austin, Shloatman. We're probably going to grab an undrafted free agent. We're going to throw all those guys in there. We're going to shake it up. And when we roll it out, we hope it says YATZ. That's what the Titans are doing with their interior offensive line with right guard and center. Do I agree with that philosophy?
Starting point is 00:10:48 No, I don't. But that's what they're doing. Now let's talk about what remains for the Tennessee Titans. What is still a need for the Tennessee Titans now that the draft is officially over? Do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought to you by Kalshi.
Starting point is 00:11:07 The NFL draft was here, now it's gone, but either way, every pick was tradable on Kalsi. Remember, everybody was arguing about David Bailey, R. Val Rees, who's going to be the number two pick? That was tradable on Kalshi, and it was 50-50 for most of the time, meaning you could have doubled your money
Starting point is 00:11:25 when one of them won, ultimately being David Bailey. On Kalshi, you're trading against your peers in a live market, meaning there's no house. And as the probabilities change, you can buy in and out of your position. Trade the draft pick, the game, and more on Kalshi. Starting point is 00:13:35 Fans, let's cap off today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast. Again, the Tennessee Titans' 2026 NFL draft is over day three. They went for athletic upside plays and offensive line depth, but I still think that there are big time holes on this roster. Before we get to it, though, do want to thank you again for making a locked-on titan. you are at first, listen each and every day. Speaking of every day, you guys got to check out the Locked on Titans every day or club.

Starting point is 00:14:32 The Titans added offensive line, but I got to start there. I'm still not comfortable with the offensive line. add Fernando Carmona, they add Pat Coogan, but did they draft offensive line early enough for me to feel comfortable that one of these guys is going to be an immediate
Starting point is 00:14:49 starter? No. I don't think much has changed. We can't say, oh, well, you know, it was Cordell Voson, Austin Schloteman, before, now they got Fernando Carmona and Pat Coogan,
Starting point is 00:15:05 those guys aren't going to start anymore. Austin Schloteman, has just as good of a chance to be a starter for the Titans this season today as he did before the draft started. And that's unfortunate. I would say the same for Cordell Voulson, Jackson Slater. I don't think that their percentage is significantly challenged by Fernando Carmona or Pat Coogan.
Starting point is 00:15:34 We're still talking about low-level free agent backups and late-day-3 players. That's what we're talking about with the Titans right guard and center spot. And no matter what you want to say, no matter what you want to do, no matter what you want to call it, that makes me nervous. That makes me nervous. The Titans also never got that slot cornerback. They never got a cornerback at all.
Starting point is 00:16:01 Now, I know you could say, why would they get cornerback? They signed three cornerbacks in free agency. But they have been talking about cornerback. It's the Titans. not me. The Titans have been talking about slot cornerbacks in the draft. They never went and got one. Now, to me, my question instantly becomes,
Starting point is 00:16:20 does that mean Marcus Harris, Kevin Winston, have a better chance of being that big nickel, being that slot cornerback like I've been talking about since Sala was hired, Kevin Winston on early downs, Marcus Harris on passing downs? Is that the Titans' current best plan there? It seems like it to me. They didn't even get a cornerback at all.
Starting point is 00:16:39 So not that big of a priority for them, right? Also, when I asked Robert Sala about Kevin Winston at the Combine, he declined to answer about Kevin Winston and just talked about Devonre Sweat, who he had to know that they were going to trade a day later, right? It's not like Robert Sala didn't know that trade conversations were going on. But he was like, I'm not going to talk about the guy who's actually going to be here. I'm going to falsely pump up the guy who were trading.
Starting point is 00:17:12 found that interesting. But again, they didn't add that. They didn't add a depth safety either. So it's, you know, Tony Adams, Amani Hooker, Kevin Winston, and I mean, I guess Jerich Reed is still in the mix, but like, come on, those are the three top safeties. They didn't add anybody to develop behind them.
Starting point is 00:17:39 no development offensive tackle. That's big for Brendan Crenshaw Dixon. Didn't double dip it wide receiver or edge. So a little surprised by some of the things that they didn't go after. But interior offensive line, still an uncertainty. Speed rusher. Never got a speed rusher. Keldrick Falk is not a speed rusher.
Starting point is 00:18:09 Now maybe Anthony Hill can help with that. He's done some, but we're talking about a linebacker helping with a speed rusher position. Doesn't really work out for me. So starting interior offensive line, don't feel like they got that. Speed rusher, don't feel like they got that. Slot cornerback, don't feel like they got that.
Starting point is 00:18:34 So Titans still have some work to do. They still have some work to do. This still isn't a great roster by any stretch of the imagination. But they definitely, definitely did make some improvements. But with that in mind, that's going to do it for draft weekend. Thank you all so much for hanging out with me, likes, comments, sharing, engaging,
Starting point is 00:18:56 just watching, listening, whatever. This weekend is so much fun for me. So thankful that I get to do this for a job. So thankful to all of you guys, draft weekend, another one in the books. Again, such a fun time, such a great weekend every year. Tighten up everybody. But I'm going to be back with you guys tomorrow night to look at the draft in totem.
Starting point is 00:19:16 and a lot of conversations coming out of this as well. But with that being said, that's going to do it for me today, folks. As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland, and this was Locked on Titans.
