Should the Tennessee Titans be done with Will Levis?
My answer is no, but it's definitely complicated.
That and more on today's edition of Locked on Titans.

On today's show, we are going to dive into a mailbag.
I'm going to be answering your guys' questions.
Obviously, the Tennessee Titans play on Monday night football,
so my preview episode for the game with my keys to victory,
my players to watch, my fantasy and gambling advice and predictions,
that's all going to come on Sunday night into Monday morning
to get you guys ready for the game.
But I figured we had an extra day this week.
Wanted to answer some of your guys' questions
after the Tennessee Titans have started.
Oh, and three is Will Levis, the Titans guy.
How long of a leash should Brian Callahan get?
And what should the Titans do if the tank continues to roll?
I'll answer all that before I do.
Thank you for making the Locked on Titans podcast your first listen each and every day.
Remember, Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year round, always for free.
You're not going to beat that anywhere else.

Speaking of every day, shout out to my everydayers out there.
Tune in Monday through Friday.
If you aren't an everydayer, well, you need to be one.
And especially, my next episode will be that preview episode.
But I'll be going live immediately after Monday night football
to break down everything that we saw.
And then, of course, dive into what happened next week
as we lead into the bye week in week five.
But I do want to remind you guys as well,
over on the Tic Tac Titans YouTube channel,
the description for that YouTube channel is down,
or the link for that YouTube channel is down in the description.
I have a JC Latham video on his performance,
a DeAndre Hopkins video.
So if you're looking for some optimistic
and some positive Tennessee Titans content,
you can find it over on the film channel there.
But with that being said,
You can find it over on the film channel there.
But with that being said,
I want to roll through the names of people who ask questions because I got a ton of Will Levis questions.
Basically, a couple of different kinds,
but Hunter, Britton, Always Titan, Brett, L09, John Porter,
Mystery the producer, Nick, Scott, Gabriel Pilcher, Owen, all of you
guys ask questions about Will Levis. So just wanted to give you guys your shout out there as
I dive into the questions. One of the questions was, is Will Levis the guy? It's that simple.
And then I got another question. What are your honest feelings on Will Levis? All right. So
I find it kind of funny that on Twitter,
everyone tells me that I hate Will Levis and I'm done with Will Levis and I'm so hard on Will
Levis. And then on YouTube, everybody says I'm a Will Levis defender. And why do I keep defending
this guy? And I had somebody say, you like Will Levis because he stinks and you stink too.
So I find it funny that it depends on what social platform you're on,
whether you think I like Will Levis or don't.
And I think the reason for that is because I'm in the middle.
I don't know how to feel about Will Levis right now, guys.
What I would tell you, gun to my head, is I don't know if Will Levis is the guy,
but I don't think that he'll ever be an elite quarterback at this stage.
I think he can be, you know, in the Jordan Love, Dak Prescott,
Baker Mayfield, Derek Carr.
Like, I think he can be a second-tier player,
but I don't think that he'll ever be Mahomes, Josh Allen,
Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow.
Like, I don't think that he has those capabilities.
I don't.
But again, you can win.
Like, Will Levis could be as good as Brock Purdy.
You know what I mean?
Like, I don't think that that is crazy,
and we're seeing what Sam Darnold is doing this year, and we're seeing what Gino Smith has done lately with the Seahawks.
Like, I think Will Levis could be on par with those guys if he, you know, just doesn't make
the stupid mistakes anymore. And then he gets a little bit better, which is just natural. So,
you know, a lot of people want to say that I'm out on Levis and this and that. And look,
after that Green Bay loss, I admit I was emotional. You know, I'm a fan just like you guys.
I take the losses really hard,
especially when I paid thousands of dollars
to go to the game.
But the reality is,
I don't know if Will Levis is the guy.
And I wish that I felt more confident about it.
But I feel pretty confident
that he'll never be an elite quarterback.
Now, you can win with a non-elite quarterback.
You can.
But the rest of the team has to be so good around him, and with him being on his rookie contract, the time
is running out in some sense. They only have the rest of this year
and two more years, and he's really hurting the team right now. I know that there are
good spots, but he's hurting the team, so I simply don't know, and those are my honest
feelings.
If Will Levis isn't the guy, would you trade or draft a new quarterback? For me,
I'm not wasting assets to trade for somebody else's trash. I am going to build up the team around whoever the quarterback is next, and I'm going to draft a quarterback at some point in
time. So I'm a firm believer that you need to get your quarterback in the draft. Uh, if the Titans draft in the top five, would I take a
quarterback? I don't know that I'm very confident in this year's quarterback class, but the reality
is every year when people say that there's usually a couple of quarterbacks that do break through.
So I'll have to do more research on this year's quarterback class, but I would much rather get Arch Manning, if I'm honest with you.
What does Will need to do to be the quarterback next year?
For me, he's got to stop making the stupid mistakes.
If he just stops making the turnovers,
then they can try to build the roster back up in 2025 in certain spots.
Let Will Levis have next year as well.
And then if it doesn't work, then in 2026,
that's when you go get your quarterback and a draft class that should be pretty solid.
Would you start Will all year? Yes. I've said this numerous times. No matter what happens this year,
I'm starting Will Levis. Mason Rudolph is not going to make a difference of whether this team
makes the playoffs or doesn't. Maybe one or two wins, he would make a difference, but is that really helping the Titans long-term
to get one or two wins in a bad season? I don't think so, personally. So, I just, you know,
I'm starting him all year, and what does Will Levis have to do to be the quarterback next year?
Just stop making the stupid turnovers, you know, like it's, it's really that simple.
I'm not asking for Will Levis to be elite or be incredible this year. Just stop doing such
stupid things. Like that's really all the ask is. And then I was asked, does Will Levis fit
in Brian Callahan system? And is Will Levis being set up to fail with the lack of rollouts and quick
game? Well, number one, I disagree entirely. A
lot of you guys have been saying stuff to me like, and we'll talk about it more about the offense and
what they can do to help Will Levis, more quick game, more rollouts. They could certainly do more
rollouts and they could certainly run the ball better and more, but they are doing a ton of quick
game to get the ball out of his hands early on early downs. They are doing that.
Now the question of does Will Levis fit in the system,
my answer right now is no because I don't think Will Levis
is a good decision maker.
And in a quick timing passing system where you have to quickly process
what the defense is doing, get the ball out of your hands quickly
and accurately to a guy, I just don't know if that's what Will Levis
is going to be good at.
I think Will Levis honestly probably
fit better in the Titans' previous
system that was much more play
action heavy. I just don't know if Will Levis
is the mental processor
and decision maker that you need
to be to succeed
in this kind of Callahan quick timing system.
And finally,
will we ever have a
generational quarterback? I get having doubts. You have
to think that eventually it happens, right? Like just, I don't know if it'll be this year,
next year, five years, 10 years, 15 years, 20 years. But I mean, eventually, like, even a blind squirrel finds a nut, even a
broken clock is right twice a day, so even the sun shines on a dog's butt, you know,
all the sayings you can think of, eventually, the Titans, whether through process or luck,
have to get a generational quarterback, but what about Brian Callahan?

Run your game. Titans fans, let's continue today's mailbag edition
of the Locked on Titans podcast.
Just answered a ton of questions about Will Levis.
Now I want to move the conversation to Brian Callahan
because understandably so,
a lot of fans are upset about Brian Callahan,
about the situation the Titans are in.
And I'm going to answer these questions as best as I can.
Before I get to it,
I do want to thank you again for making Locked on Titans
your first listen each and every day.
It's your team every day here on the Locked on Titans podcast.
But I got questions on Brian Callahan and the coaching in general
from CQ Collins, Kratus Gray, Ryan, Kwon, Kors, Ryan Smith,
TTK, Bandito, IKC, Conrus.
But here are some of the questions I got.
If the Titans get a top three pick,
so they're one of the worst three teams in the NFL,
does Brian Callahan get a second season?
And to me, the answer is obviously yes.
Guys, I get that people are frustrated
and I get that people had high expectations for the year
and wanted to see
the team improve. And you're not wrong if you feel that way, but you can't just hire and fire coaches
nonstop over and over. Like that's just not, it's just not conducive to success. And the reality is
I think Brian Callahan has done a good job. I do. Brian Callahan, if you look at any of the analytics,
if you look at any of the play calling data that they have around the NFL, I've retweeted a lot of
that stuff. We can talk about some of that stuff during the bye week after this game against the
Dolphins, but Brian Callahan is rated as one of the top 12 play callers in the NFL right now.
He's creating separation for the wide receivers, his game script, like not doing run-run pass,
not running on second and 10,
throwing on early downs.
Like, Brian Callahan is doing a lot of good things, in my opinion.
And a lot of these concepts and a lot of these play calls
are good play calls, and they're open.
Now, does that mean he's been perfect?
Absolutely not.
But I think that everybody wants someone to blame.
Everybody looks around and says,
someone's got to be at fault.
I got to be mad at somebody.
Being mad at Will Levis will hurt your heart.
Being mad at the offensive line is futile
because the offensive line isn't going to get better this year
from outside sources.
Like, it's just going to come from internal development at some point.
So it's easy to just get mad at the coach and blame the new coach and say,
oh, I miss Mike Vrabel.
Even though Mike Vrabel scored 17 or less points half of the years that he
was the coach and was six for 18 in his last 24 games, people just, you know,
want that old thing back.
It's like when you get sad after a night of drinking and you miss your ex no you don't when you wake up tomorrow you're gonna feel dumb that
you called her you know what I mean so yes Brian Callahan needs to be back yes Brian Callahan
should get a season two um I did get a question of if the Titans don't work out, when should Brian Callahan be fired?
Who should the new coach be?
I'll tell you.
I would give Brian Callahan until 2027.
So this year, 2025 and 2026,
I would give Brian Callahan three seasons
with Rand Carthon together. Let Rand Car would give Brian Callahan three seasons with Rand Carthon together.
Let Rand Carthon and Brian Callahan work together
for three total off-seasons and seasons.
And then if this doesn't work, they don't get better,
they can't figure things out,
then you fire Rand Carthon and you fire Brian Callahan
after the 2026 season.
And then you hire a new coach and a new general manager
going into the new stadium.
Start brand new going into the new stadium.
Will Levis's rookie contract will be out.
You'll have yourself a new quarterback.
You'll have yourself a new coach.
You'll have yourself a new GM.
I'm giving Brian Callahan and Rand Carthon three seasons at minimum.
I think that's only fair.
Let them build their vision. You could say
Rancart Thon, that'd be year four, but let's be honest with ourselves. Rancart Thon has said this
as well. Last year, Mike Vrabel had a lot of input. It wasn't just what Rancart Thon wanted
to do. We know that from the first round pick. Rancart Thon wanted Zay Flowers. Mike Vrabel
wanted Peter Skoranski. Give them three years together as a group and
let's see what happens. I was asked about Brian Callahan's
play calling and what adjustments need to be made. What improvements
need to be made. I've had a lot of you say, why don't they chip to the right tackle to help
Nicholas Petit Ferrer? Why don't they go empty more often
and go to quick games
so he can get the ball out of his hands more?
Like I said earlier, why aren't there more rollouts?
And guys, there are.
That's why I'm not mad at Brian Callahan.
The Titans have run a ton of quick game.
The Titans have chip helped the tight end
with the tight end on the right tackle.
The Titans have gone to empty.
Will Levis threw a pick six.
The Titans were in empty and it was a quick throw
because they're trying to do those things.
All right, the problem with this season is three things.
Will Levis making boneheaded turnovers,
the offensive line not being good in the right side,
and the defense not creating turnovers,
and the special teams making blunders.
Like, this is an execution issue why the Titans are 0-3.
In my opinion, it's not fully coaching.
It's not really coaching.
It's execution by individual players making bad decisions and bad execution.
So, you know, I want Brian Callahan to call more zone runs.
I want Brian Callahan to actually,
some of this window dressing where he's bringing wide receivers in motion
and faking pitches and faking quick screens and faking swing screens,
I want him to actually do some of those things
so that it sells the fakes a little bit more.
There are improvements that I want to see from Brian Callahan
as a play caller and a play designer,
but overall, some of these
things you guys are sending to me, it makes me wonder whether you're really watching the games.
And, you know, it's obvious that you're not watching the film, at least, which I get not
everyone has money to pay to see the film, but like they are doing these things that you're
asking them to do that you think will help. they're doing them. And it's still not working because the individual players are breaking down. So Will Levis is making mistakes. The tackles are
getting help. Well, NPF at least is getting help from tight ends and still messing up.
And to a point, if you remember, we talked about this last year, guys. We talked about it in 2022.
You can leave a running back in and you can leave a tight end in to block,
but then you only have three people out in routes
and you're really, really easy to cover.
So it's not like you can just do one thing and that's going to fix it
because it's like when a boat starts to leak.
You can plug one hole, but another hole is going to pop up.
And then how do you plug that?
At some point,
you're playing whack-a-mole with the scheme. You just need your players to play better.
In my opinion, this isn't a coaching problem. Like we saw with the Titans last year,
you know, like this is an execution issue. So some other questions, um, I was asked
the Packers really, and I forget who exactly asked this question,
but the question was, the Packers really hurt the Titans
with crossing routes and with counters last week.
And is that one bad game, or are those weaknesses?
And in my opinion, those are weaknesses.
I've been talking about the Titans' middle-of-the-field pass coverage
for months now
Kenneth Murray Jack Gibbons even Ernest Jones who's better than those two at coverage but still
not an excellent coverage linebacker um Quandre Diggs is an older player Jamal Adams is washed
entirely like the Titans were always going to be vulnerable over the middle of the field and I
don't think that that is going to get better, okay? Because they signed Kenneth Murray,
who's been terrible in coverage his entire career, you know what I mean? Like,
that's not going to get better. And similarly, counters, the Titans don't have strong edge
rushers. Harold Landry is a good edge rusher, but he's not a huge physical guy. He's an undersized guy with good speed.
Arden Key is terrible against the run.
Jalen Harrell is a seventh-round rookie.
The linebackers over-pursue,
and they're going to be vulnerable to counters no matter what.
So when you have an offensive lineman pulling to the backside on a counter,
the Titans don't have edges who are strong enough to hold up.
They're going
to get blown out. And when you have over-aggressive linebackers who are only good when they're coming
downhill with speed, well, when the counter starts and it fakes to the play side, the linebackers
are going to dart down and then they're going to overrun and not be able to hit the counter.
So I think these are just weaknesses of the Titans' defense, not just one bad game that they played against the Packers.
Also, I was asked about the Titans limiting the blitz.
The Titans have not blitzed as much as I thought that they would
under Denard Wilson, and I know that a lot of that probably has to do with
they played Caleb Williams, a rookie, who you want to disguise coverage and not let him out of the pocket.
They played Aaron Rodgers, who gets rid of the ball so quick
that blitzing is almost futile.
And then they played Malik, and you don't want to make it easy on Malik
to get out of the pocket and to have less guys in coverage
so you leave guys back in zone and make Malik beat you with his arm and his mind.
But he was able to do that.
So I get why the Titans haven't been a heavy blitz team in the first three weeks.
But at some point, they're not getting pressure on quarterbacks.
And they're going to have to go more blitz heavy to change that.
So that's how I feel about the coaching side of things.
If the Titans do continue to spiral,
what roster moves should be made during the season or after?
We'll talk about that now.
Before we do, I do want to let you guys know
that today's episode is brought to you by FanDuel Sportsbook.
Hey, Titans fans.
Yep, talking to you.
You can start this season with a big return on FanDuel,
America's number one sportsbook.

And if you're looking for a $5 bet,
the Titans are one-and-a- a half point underdogs in Miami and the Colts are one and a half
point underdogs at home against the Steelers.
A six point teaser to take the Titans to plus seven and a half and the Colts to plus seven
and a half at home.
I love that teaser.
To me, I'm going to be hammering that personally.
So if you want to do that or you want to take advantage of any other bets that are available,
make sure that you visit FanDuel.com.
Titans fans, let's cap off today's mailbag edition
of the Locked on Titans podcast.
We talked about Will Levis.
We talked about the coaching.
Now people want to know,
what happens if the Titans keep losing?
What does that look like?
What moves should they make?
Some of these questions came from Titan Up,
Dave, Matt, Martin, Ryan P.,
Conru's, Tony, Lord Fombs, Logan.
So you guys send in your questions.
And I want to say this.
Twitter has been really buggy this week.
I've had problems posting videos.
I've been getting error messages that I can't reply
because I've already hit my limit,
which I pay for Twitter Blue,
so I can post longer videos and have bookmark folders.
So none of those things should apply to me.
Also, I couldn't save certain tweets in my bookmarks
and in my folders when I usually do that to make sure I get to all your guys' questions.
So if I didn't get to your question, I truly apologize.
But Twitter was acting really, really weird this week, technically speaking.
So I hope you guys understand if that affected my ability to get your question.
But quickly, I got a question about the Bengals.
Actually, if the Bengals go 0-4 and continue to lose,
should the Titans trade for T. Higgins?
My answer is no.
I think that if the Bengals continue to lose,
they probably will want to shift their money from wide receiver to defense
because their defenses look so bad.
So rather than keep T. Higgins on the franchise tag again next year
for $25 million, they'd probably just let him go.
They can't avoid Jamar Chase next year either.
And it's more of a cash issue than a salary cap issue
for the Bengals as a franchise.
So if the Titans are still interested in T. Higgins,
I would say wait until the offseason and sign him outright
rather than trade anything for him.
And with the way it looks right now,
the Titans can't afford to trade away draft picks.
They're going to need to replenish this roster.
Who should the Titans trade away if they continue to lose?
Should they trade Big Jeff?
No.
I will continue to say you don't trade Jeffrey Simmons.
You build the defense around Jeffrey Simmons.
I think, if anything, the Titans should trade DeAndre Hopkins
if they are 2-6 or 1-7 or, God forbid, 0-8
by the time that the trade deadline rolls around.
You trade DeAndre Hopkins, who was on the last year of his contract,
will be 33 years old next year.
The Titans have to get younger at wide receiver anyways.
So if you could get a third or a fourth round pick
for DeAndre Hopkins from a contending team,
again, that's only if the Titans are 2-6, 1-7.
If they fight their way back and they're 3-4,
or they're 2-5, it's kind of on that line. But if they're 3-4 or they're 2-5,
it's kind of on that line.
But if they're 3-4 or they're 500 or whatever,
you keep DeAndre Hopkins and you push for the playoffs.
Because if that happens, that means that the Titans have really turned things around.
And I think they can do that if they stop making the big critical mistakes.
They should be 2-1 right now, in my opinion, without the big critical mistakes.
So it's tough to hear, but that's how I feel.
Do I have concerns about Peter Skowronski? As a guy who's been a big
Peter Skowronski defender and fan, I have to admit that I'm a little bit
sad about what I've seen. Brian Callahan has said that Peter Skowronski
is playing fine, that they think he's played pretty good.
I think that that's just Brian Callahan trying to make sure that Pete doesn't lose his confidence.
His anchor, somebody asked me about, you know, Quentin Nelson.
Like, I thought Pete was going to be a Quentin Nelson.
And I was hoping for something like that, too.
But the reality is Peter Skowronski is smaller than Quentin Nelson.
Naturally, he's
about 15 pounds lighter. He's shorter. He doesn't have as long of arms. Pete's really struggled with
his hands. His punch, trying to slow down defensive linemen and blitzers has not been good. His anchor
has not been good. I think Pete's still going to get better. I haven't lost hope in Pete,
has not been good.
I think Pete's still going to get better.
I haven't lost, like, hope in Pete,
but I definitely wish that he would be playing better right now because teams are attacking him.
They're trying specifically to attack him
because they know he doesn't have a lot of power going on right now.
The question I got, again, was,
should the Titans be looking at right tackle or quarterback?
My answer is still edge.
The pass rush and lack of pass rush for this defense
is just as big of a problem as right tackle and quarterback right now.
I know people don't believe that, but it's the truth.
The Titans have to get a better pass rush.
Right now, they've only generated 18% of the time generated pressure,
some of the worst in the NFL.
Pass rush is a big, big issue, even though offensive line
and special teams and the quarterback have kind of masked that problem.
Pass rush is huge.
Also, would the Titans make the playoffs if they had better right tackle
or quarterback play?
I think the answer is yes.
If they had a better quarterback who didn't make the mistakes
that Levis has made, I think they win at least one of those games if they had better right tackle play
then that would help on the turnover front as well so yeah the Titans had Penny Sewell at right
tackle I think they're two and one if the Titans had Josh Allen I think they're two and one you
know what I mean or Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson.
You know what I mean?
Like, yes, you know?
Over, under, the Titans are contenders in five years.
I'm going to say under.
I hope that they're a contending team quicker than five years from now.
I don't know, but I'm going to hope so.
Also was asked some funny
questions here. How was the barbecue in Nashville? I'll say this about Edley's. Is it Edley's or
Eadley's? I don't know for sure, but the brisket was fantastic. There's not a lot of good brisket where I'm at in Ohio.
I'm not a big fan of ribs.
Ribs are okay, but I never go to a restaurant and order ribs.
I just don't enjoy the meat off the bone like that
as much as I enjoy brisket or pulled pork or smoked chicken.
So I will say that the brisket was absolutely phenomenal. The green
beans were great. The mac and cheese was excellent. My dad really liked the cornbread. I will tell you
I did not like the barbecue sauce and I think there's better pulled pork where I'm from here
in Ohio than the pulled pork that I got at Eatless. I know a lot of people have said that I should have tried the burnt ends
and mac and cheese or the cheddar grits, and I wish I would have.
I think Caleb Dyson is who told me that.
But I didn't get that message until after I already ordered.
And then the last question I got was,
will we ever be happy again?
And, you know, I just don't know.
I just don't know.
I can tell you personally, I've mentioned this,
my nephew's football team is 0-4.
The high school football team that I do announcements for is 0-5.
And both of those teams are getting smoked every week,
not even just losing.
It's not even close.
And then the Titans are 0-3.
One and six, or one and five in fantasy football.
At least I'm up like $20 on my bets on FanDuel.
But it's been a really, football really affects my mood. I know that
that's not healthy or, you know, you know, someone who doesn't like football could laugh at that, but
I am really down, uh, from the, the football lack of happiness, quite honestly, like it's
really affected my mood and I really need the Titans or somebody to win a game or something.
You know, just give me something.
I'm trying my best to be positive.
I'm putting out optimistic videos on the Film Breakdown channel
and trying to highlight the good, but I can't lie to you guys.
It's wearing on me how bad all the football teams I care about
have been so far this year.
So with that being said, hopefully we get a good performance on Monday night.
I'm going to be back on Sunday night
with my preview episode back on Monday
to break down the action.
Please, Titans, please win a football game.
I'm begging you.
But with that being said,
that's going to do it for me today, folks.
Tighten up down in the chat.
Thumbs up on the video.
