The Tennessee Titans get absolutely mauled by the Detroit Lions 52-14. While Brian Callahan and Dennard Wilson should be utterly embarrassed by the performance, special teams coordinator Colt Anderson... must be fired. Calvin Ridley finally showed up with a massive game, but all for naught as the performance didn't really matter. Finally, after seeing wins by the Patriots and Browns, it is safe to say the Titans are the worst team in the NFL.Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel:https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitansTicTacTitans Merchandise: https://dixons-dream.square.site/shop/tictactitans-gear/C3AAPNWXSXA6SBYG3USV2I7R?page=1&limit=30&sort_by=category_order&sort_order=ascFollow Tyler on Twitter @TicTacTitansFollow the show on Facebook @LockedOnTitansPodSubscribe to the Locked On Titans YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/c/LockedOnTitans/videosSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Bilt Rewards5 Hour EnergyBetterHelpThis episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. Starting point is 00:00:00 It's a Motown meltdown for the Titans as they lose 52 to 14, and they're officially the worst team in the NFL. That and more on today's edition of Locked on Titans. You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked on Podcast Network, your team every day. Welcome to the Locked On Titans podcast. I am your host, Tyler Rowland, Titans fans.
Starting point is 00:00:34 Today's edition of the Locked On Titans podcast is brought to you by GameTime. Download the GameTime app, create an account, use the code LOCKEDONNFL for $20 off your first purchase. The Tennessee Titans got flat out embarrassed by the Detroit Lions, 52-14, one of the worst losses in the Tennessee Titans era for this franchise. Heads need to roll. Someone must be fired, and I'll tell you exactly who it needs to be. Also, Calvin Ridley had a breakout game. It was an absolute ugly, ugly game, but it happened nonetheless. And finally, I'll go through the reasons why this team is
Starting point is 00:01:13 the worst football team in the NFL, period. Before I get into it, thank you again for making Locked on Titans your first listen each and every day. Remember, Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year round, always for free. You're not going to beat that anywhere else. Make sure that you get subscribed. Stay subscribed.
Starting point is 00:01:31 It's your team every day here on the Locked on Titans podcast. Speaking of every day, shout out to my everydayers out there. Tune in Monday through Friday. Couldn't do it without you guys. Make sure you throw a thumbs up on the video. Throw a Titan up down in the chat. But with that being said, what a disaster.
Starting point is 00:01:49 I mean, what an embarrassment for the Tennessee Titans. I like, you know, I've spent time defending Brian Callahan. There are reasons for that. But this is a poorly coached football team. There's no way around it.
Starting point is 00:02:07 And there is not one coach out there who you could point to and say they're doing a good job right now. Obviously, Brian Callahan isn't doing a good enough job. Don't give me this. The Titans need to fire Brian Callahan and promote Denard Wilson. Nobody is going to have Denard Wilson as their head coach next year. That's a certified fact. But really, but really, but really,
Starting point is 00:02:34 Cole Anderson needs to be fired immediately. Cole Anderson has to be fired immediately. If you don't recognize Cole Anderson's name, he is the Titans special teams coordinator. 262 yards. 262 return yards on the day. It's outside of just this game, right? It's not just that the Titans special teams
Starting point is 00:02:59 had maybe the worst performance of the entire NFL season. I think the San Francisco 49ers gave up more return yards to the Seattle Seahawks in week two of this year. But the block punts, the penalties, the lack of explosive plays in the return game. What does Cole Anderson do well? What does Cole Anderson provide this football team? Not only should he be fired immediately,
Starting point is 00:03:24 but they should leave Cole Anderson in Detroit. Do not even give him a ride back to Tennessee. Leave him in Detroit. Drop him off on 8 Mile. I don't care. But Cole Anderson cannot continue to be this team's special teams coordinator. It cannot happen. It cannot happen. It cannot happen.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Period. No questions asked. Must be fired. And I'll tell you, today, gotta take my glasses off for this one because, whew, today
Starting point is 00:03:55 was the first day that I seriously looked at myself and said, Brian Callahan may be fired at the end of the year. Like, I still don't think that's going to happen. I still don't think he should be fired right now, for sure. But, I mean, again, this might be the worst team in the entire NFL. And they are getting completely outclassed every single week by other teams. Completely outclassed. And it's just, you know, at some
Starting point is 00:04:31 point, you gotta look yourself in the mirror sometimes on things. So I say that to set up this point. If Brian Callahan does not fire Colt Anderson or relieve him of his duties and promote somebody else, if that does not happen this week, I will lose a large amount of faith in Brian Callahan. And I know what the reaction to that will be from a lot of people is, well, how could you not have already?
Starting point is 00:04:57 Well, because, you know, I'm not as quick trigger as a lot of you guys. You got to take a step back for a second. But it would be outright incompetence for Brian Callahan to keep Colt Anderson as a special teams coach. There's no way that that continue. That can't continue after maybe the worst special teams performance in Tennessee Titans history.
Starting point is 00:05:20 No doubt about it. The Detroit Lions set a record five scoring drives of less than 30 yards. Why? Well, a lot of that had to do with the turnovers because Mason Rudolph is not very good either. But most of that had to do with the returns.
Starting point is 00:05:42 And it just looked like child's play. The Titans did not look like a professional football team. And look, honestly, from a Brian Callahan offensive coordinator perspective, Mason Rudolph threw for like 200 yards in the first half. The Titans were tied with the Lions 14-14 at one point. Like, there were some things to like Calvin Ridley. We'll talk about him in a second. There were some things to like with the Titans offense.
Starting point is 00:06:12 There were. But, Callahan on the goal line, four straight run plays. Now, I will point out the hypocrisy here. Last week, last week, Brian Callahan ran two run plays. Now I will, I will point out the hypocrisy here. Last week, last week, Brian Callahan ran two run plays on third and short and fourth and short. And everybody said, fire Brian Callahan. How could you call back-to-back run plays? And then Brian Callahan doesn't call run plays on, on the goal line. And everybody, oh, you got to fire Brian Callahan. How do you not run the football? So it's just funny to me, but at the end of the day, you do have to run the ball one of those times.
Starting point is 00:06:50 And as I said before, Denard Wilson's defense, I have been saying this on crossover episodes when I talk to other hosts and I get a negative reaction. Oh, how can you, you know, be a traitor and say the Titans defense isn't good? And well, the Titans defense isn't great. They're a good defense. They're not a great defense. And I mean, Jameer Gibbs ran for 70 yards right down their throat because Kenneth Murray got bullied and Jeffrey Simmons got bullied all game
Starting point is 00:07:21 and Quandre Diggs takes a bad angle and Jalen Harrell gets pushed out of his spot. This defense isn't great. They're good, but they're not great. So it's all the way down. Cole Anderson has to be fired. Brian Callahan looking in over his head. Denard Wilson, okay. But, like, nothing about this coaching staff is great in any way
Starting point is 00:07:45 or good in any way at this time. Like, and that's the reality. So, like I said, I have defended Brian Callahan, but if things like this continue, people out there saying he has to be fired after the season, I mean, it's hard to argue with you at this point. But with that being said, I do want to talk about the individual player performances in this game
Starting point is 00:08:08 because there were some good, there were some bad, of course. So we'll get into Titan up, Titan down. And at the end of the show, I think the Titans might be the worst team in the NFL. And with that in mind, we got some good news in week eight. So I'll go over that. Before I do, I do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought to you by LinkedIn Jobs. Titans fans, let's continue today's recap edition of the Locked on Titans podcast. The Tennessee Titans get flat out embarrassed. 52 to 14 by the Detroit Lions. And guys, I got to tell you, I said on Friday's show,
Starting point is 00:11:06 I thought that this would be a bad game. I thought the Titans would get absolutely smoked in this game. I said 41-7. Okay? And quick math on 41-7, that is 34 points. I mean, somehow the Titans get beat even worse. Like, pretty crazy.
Starting point is 00:11:28 38 points difference. Somehow, the Titans get beat worse than I thought. But, but, with that being said, there were some good performances in here. Like, there were. There were some good performances. Number one, Calvin Ridley. 10 catches, 143 yards. Finally went crazy. Nice one, Calvin Ridley, 10 catches, 143 yards,
Starting point is 00:11:46 finally went crazy. Nice to see Calvin Ridley playing out there. And again, Calvin Ridley's taking a lot of heat, but I think Calvin Ridley has done a pretty good job all year. He's just had terrible quarterbacks throwing him the football. You look at Tony Pollard. Tony Pollard goes over 100 total yards from scrimmage, 20 carries, 94 yards. Why was he in so late in the game getting carries? I don't know. Three catches, 23 yards. Like to see that from Tony Pollard. I thought Arden Key finally showed up, and thank God.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Somebody, come trade for Arden Key. Give us a sixth-round pick for Arden Key, please. Two sacks on the day, forced a couple fumbles, three quarterback hits, six tackles. Pretty good day from Arden Key. Hey, Detroit, Detroit needs an edge rusher. I'm just saying Arden Key could stay in Detroit if you wanted to give us like a sixth round pick.
Starting point is 00:12:33 I'm just saying. I'm just saying. Roger McCreary had a pretty good day in this game. Made a sack. Had some good tackles. But that's about it. That is about it, if we're honest. And looking at the tight end downs,
Starting point is 00:12:49 like it pains me to say it because Jeffrey Simmons is my favorite player on the team. But Jeffrey Simmons got bullied. He made one good play near the goal line where he shot through the line, slanted through, crossed an offensive lineman's face and made a play in the goal line where he shot through the line, slanted through, crossed an offensive lineman's face, and made a play in the backfield. But Jeffrey Simmons was god-awful in this game.
Starting point is 00:13:14 He got bullied. On that touchdown, the first touchdown of the game, Penny Sewell absolutely drove him back 10 yards and put him in the end zone with David Montgomery. It was embarrassing. Jeffrey Simmons should be embarrassed about the way he played in this game. I mean, for a $100 million player, he has been a disaster this year. A disaster. Not only that, but Quandre Diggs.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Quandre Diggs has been mostly good for the Titans this year. I'm not going to act like he hasn't. But his angles in the run game on that Jameer Gibbs touchdown run, what are you doing? The angles that the safeties have taken in the run game have been so poor all year long. That includes Imani Hooker, although Hooker wasn't bad in this game, but Diggs, man. And again, we talked about Arden Key.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Quandre Diggs. Trade him. Trade him. Trade him for whatever you can get. Quandre Diggs isn't going to be here next year. He's not staying with this clown show next year. Trade him. Terrible. Kenneth Murray.
Starting point is 00:14:22 I've had people argue with me that Kenneth Murray is playing well. And to me, linebacker, linebacker is like the number one position on defense where casual fans think someone is good when they're not. Like, because you see linebackers make plays. Linebacker get a tackle in the backfield. Linebacker blitz and gets a sack. Linebacker with a big hit behind the line of scrimmage. Like, casual fans will look at linebackers make plays.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Like Aziz Alshayer. Everybody said Aziz Alshayer was some incredible player. You know? Because he had so many tackles. Look how many tackles he has. He's awesome. I had somebody do that. Multiple people do that with Kenneth Murray.
Starting point is 00:15:01 And it's just like, bad linebacker play is hard to see sometimes. Out of position, overrunning plays, not getting off blocks. Kenneth Murray is awful. He's awful. I just don't understand, you know. I guess I do understand, but man, it's crazy to me that more people can't see how bad Kenneth Murray is.
Starting point is 00:15:26 And he was terrible in this game. On the offensive side of the ball, you know, Chigaconko fumbles. What are we doing there? Mason Rudolph with multiple interceptions. A bobbled snap at the end. Like, Mason Rudolph made some okay plays, but he makes some terrible plays too.
Starting point is 00:15:47 And it's just like, this is why you're a backup. This is why when people are in my comments comparing Mason Rudolph to Tom Brady and say, oh, he just needs a chance to start. What are you talking about? Mason Rudolph isn't any answer. Mason Rudolph ain't the guy. He's a good backup.
Starting point is 00:16:04 And that's it. And that's all he will ever be. Mason Rudolph isn't any answer. Mason Rudolph ain't the guy. He's a good backup. And that's it. And that's all he will ever be. Period. Peter Skowronski struggled in this game. His second holding call was bogus, man. On the big screen to Tony Pollard. But still, it's just not good enough. It's just not good enough for a first-round pick.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Latham did not have a great game in this one either, folks. J.C. Latham, back-to-back games now against good teams has not looked good. You know, you look good against the Jets. You know, you look good against the Dolphins. But Latham has had his struggles here lately. That's a fact. Leroy Watson just continues to get penalties. He's not a good player. You know, they put in John Ajuku. He's terrible too. You know,
Starting point is 00:16:52 that's all that it comes down to. You know, question, well, Tyler, who is the guy at quarterback? It's not on the team. He's not on the team, folks. It's all there is to it. The quarterback isn't on the team. That's the problem. And I don't know that I trust any of the quarterbacks coming, but that's a different conversation for another day. So the reality here is the Tennessee Titans are probably the worst football team in the NFL. I would say that it's them or the Carolina Panthers. And with that in mind,
Starting point is 00:17:32 Titans got some help on Sunday from some other bad football teams. Let's talk about that now. Before we do, I do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought to you by GameTime. GameTime is the best place to buy tickets, period. Why? They have the best features in the industry, and now they have an even better feature, a new feature called GameTime Picks that makes getting tickets to see your favorite teams play live even easier. Starting point is 00:19:04 Titans fans, let's cap off today's recap edition of the Locked on Titans podcast. Boy, that was a stinker, man. Like that was one of the worst Tennessee Titans losses that I've ever seen. You know what I mean? I've been a fan for 25 years. I've been a fan of this football team. That's one of the worst losses I've ever seen. And not just because they got beat bad.
Starting point is 00:19:27 It's not just the score. It's the way that it happened. The special teams blunders over and over and over, setting the Lions up with short fields, the interceptions, the turnovers. Man, just crazy. And the reality is this might be the worst is, the reality is, this might be the worst team in the NFL. Now, I think that the Carolina Panthers are actually the worst team in the NFL. I think the Panthers are worse than the Titans,
Starting point is 00:19:57 if I'm honest with you. I think the Panthers are worse than the Titans. But, but, the Titans are number two. The Cleveland Browns beat the Baltimore Ravens. Everybody was saying all they had to do was sit Deshaun Watson and the football gods sat Deshaun Watson for them. And now the Browns beat the Ravens, the hottest team in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:20:23 So the Browns win and that's their second win of the season. Thank you, Cleveland. And then also, the New England Patriots do what the Titans could not do and beat the Jets. The New England Patriots got their second win of the season. their second win of the season. That's great. That's great news. Love that. Also, it's a 4 o'clock game, and I'm live right now afterwards.
Starting point is 00:20:53 I'm recording right after the Titans game. But the Panthers are playing the Broncos, and we all know that the Broncos aren't legit. So maybe the Panthers, led by Bryce Young, can find a way to win that game. And if that happens, the Titans are set to have the number one pick after eight weeks. So that is bad news, but good news, I guess, in a sense. Silver lining, we will say.
Starting point is 00:21:15 Also, if you want some other things to make you feel a little bit better, the Colts lost again, and the Jags lost again. So, you know, misery loves company. Anthony Richardson, up and down game, but man, he just continues to look terrible. The Jaguars, a terrible football team as well. So, yeah, that's what we got. That's what we got to hold on to right now, folks.
Starting point is 00:21:41 Because the Titans sure aren't going to do much this year. That ship has completely sailed. You look at it. They lost the turnover battle 4-0. They have the worst turnover margin in the NFL. They had eight penalties for 60 yards. They continue to rack up a ton of penalties. Special teams gave up 262 return yards, had penalties seemingly everywhere you look.
Starting point is 00:22:07 Um, second half offense scored zero points. Once again, Titans are the worst team in the NFL in the second half and in the fourth quarter. And then this defense right now, this defense is on pace to, uh, give up the most points in Tennessee Titans history. to give up the most points in Tennessee Titans history. So, I mean, I don't know what to tell you. All I will say is, I see a lot of people during the game, after the game, all week, talking about, oh, Mike Vrabel.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Mike Vrabel. Well, Mike Vrabel was awful too last year. And Craig Aukerman, if you remember, if you remember Craig Aukerman, the Titans special teams coordinator last year, had two punts blocked and got Ryan Stonehouse murdered. And Mike Vrabel employed that man for six years while the Titans had terrible special teams units the entire time. So I know that it's easy to say,
Starting point is 00:23:06 oh, Mike Vrabel, Mike Vrabel, Mike Vrabel. But the Titans got beat by Buffalo 41-7 last year or two years ago under Mike Vrabel. And then the special teams under Mike Vrabel were terrible all along. The Titans were a terrible second half offense and fourth quarter offense last year under Mike Vrabel. So it's like, you know, you reminisce over your ex. I get it.
Starting point is 00:23:32 But the reality is, Mike Vrabel is doing a terrible job too. So you just got to keep that in mind here. Doesn't mean that Brian Callahan is going to be the answer at this point. My confidence is truly shaken. But yeah, at the end of the day, I think with all that being said, the Titans are the worst team in the NFL. And, I mean, it's them or the Panthers, folks.
Starting point is 00:23:57 And it's not a battle that you want to be in. So, path to the number one pick, baby. The thing is, next week is a huge game. The Titans play the New England Patriots, and that is an absolute tank off, folks. If the Titans beat the Patriots, it may not be the best thing for them long term, but I'm going to pick the Titans to beat the Patriots next week at home.
Starting point is 00:24:20 I truly am. So, call me crazy if you want, but that's where I'm at. But with that being said, that is going to do it for me today, folks. Thumbs up on the video. Tighten up down in the chat. Shout out to all my audio folks. It's going to be an interesting week ahead, folks. That's all I know.
Starting point is 00:24:36 But with that being said, that is going to do it for me today. As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland, and this was Locked on Titans.
