Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans GOOD LOSS as Cam Ward SHINES vs New Orleans Saints & HUGE WEEKEND for TANK WATCHERS
Episode Date: December 28, 2025The Tennessee Titans lost to the New Orleans Saints, but this is the type of loss Titans fans should have been hoping for all season as Cam Ward played very well and flashed his high level ability whi...le losing in a close, competitive game against a team that is better than them. The loss also highlights how important it is to get Ward some help in the form of better coaching and higher quality weapons like a Chris Olave, who destroyed the Titans patchwork secondary. On the bright side, if you cared more about the Titans tank, today was the day for you as multiple things happened over the weekend to help the Titans draft positioning. That includes a Cleveland Browns win, and the AFC North still being wide open, thanks to Derrick Henry. I wanted the Tennessee Titans to win the game, but that was a perfect example of what a good loss should look like for the Titans in 2025.
We'll break it down on today's edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked on podcast network, your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked-on Titans podcast.
I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans.
The Tennessee Titans lost to the New Orleans Saints 34 to 26.
It was a comeback loss that certainly stings because I wanted to win the game.
But at the end of the day, when you look at the whole operation,
this was a perfect loss for the Tennessee Titans.
I'm going to explain why.
Plus talk about why if you were somebody who was more worried about the draft,
well, you had a good weekend.
as well. Before we dive into all of it, do want to thank you for making Locked on Titans
your first listen each and every day. Remember Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content
all year round, always for free. Make sure that you get subscribed, stay subscribed. It's your team
every day. Speaking of every day, shout up to my everydayers out there, tuning in Monday
through Friday. Couldn't do it without you guys. If you aren't an everydayer, you need to be one.
Again, there's one game left in the season, but the most important part of the Titans future
is right after the season ends with the head coaching search and the higher that they're going to make.
you up to date on all the candidates, all the recent reports. I'm going to go over strengths and
weaknesses. Once someone's hired, I'm going to break down who their coaching staff could be,
their scheme on both sides of the ball. So if you want to be as up to date, as informed,
and as entertained as a Tennessee Titans fan could be, make sure that you stay locked in with the
Locked on Titans podcast. But with all that being said, again, I think this is a perfect loss
for the Tennessee Titans. This is what we wanted the losses to look like before the year.
Again, I wanted to win this game.
I am disappointed that they did not win this game.
They were up 26 to 20.
They could have closed this out on the offensive side of the ball.
The defense didn't play well enough.
There are a lot of reasons why they didn't win this game.
But at the end of the day, even though I'm disappointed that they didn't win,
I can look at everything that took place in this game and say, honestly,
this is what the losses were supposed to look like.
This is a perfect loss for a Titans fan to endure.
Not only did the Tennessee Titans lose, which is what some people wanted them to do,
but at the end of the day, they were competitive in this game.
They were a competitive football team in this game.
They stayed in the game.
They scored 26 points.
They made plays on offense.
They made plays on defense.
They made plays deep down the ball.
They messed up.
It was a fun game.
This was a fun football game.
The Titans were competitive and fun.
All right, they lost, which is what we expected coming into the year.
I had the Titans winning five games on the season
I did not think that the Tennessee Titans
were going to win a bunch of games
I didn't think that that was going to happen
so what I wanted in those games
I wanted the Titans to be competitive
I wanted the games to be fun to watch
and be an enjoyable time to watch
I wanted Cam Ward to play well
and look it wasn't a perfect game from Cam Ward
there were some bad throws in there
a couple of almost interceptions
but my God man
21 of 40 251 had two touchdown passes
did get sacked four times, but some of those throws and some of those plays he made,
getting away from pressure, getting out of the pocket.
And we saw, we saw the true Cam Ward in this game
with some of those plays where he's nonchalant in the pocket,
and he kind of stops his feet and surveys the air.
The offensive line really did give him a lot of time early on in the game.
And credit to the Saints, they adjusted, and we'll talk about all of that.
But Cam Ward was awesome in this game.
It wasn't a perfect game.
I'm not saying it was impeccable by any stretch of the imagination.
but to see him throw the ball down the field and connect,
the hit to Mason Kinsey,
the hit to Chim DeK that caused the pass interference,
you know, he just made so many incredible plays
running through the pocket,
finding a way to get rid of it,
almost makes the play,
but the knee is down at the end of the game.
Like, I don't know how you could not watch this game
or how you could watch this game
and not be fired up about Cam Ward going forward.
Now, you could talk about the Chase Young,
pull the ball out of his hands run for a touchdown play,
sure. Go ahead and talk about that.
me, the Titans offensive tackles both got
whooped on that play, and that's just
bad plays are going to happen.
Every bad play that happens to
Cam Ward, every interception, every
fumble that happens isn't an example
of the major problem. Cam Ward
has a problem with his fumbles that he needs
to clean up, but that play with
Chase Young is not a play that you would put.
He's had 10 fumbles on the season,
which leads the NFL. That is not
one of the fumbles that you would put on the
film and be like, hey, look,
this is a problem. It's got to be cleaned up.
That was just a great play by Chase Young and a terrible play by the Titans' offensive tackles.
But again, not only did Cam Ward have a really fun, really awesome game
where he showed the arm, he showed the playmaking, he showed the swagger,
he showed the full package in this game.
Not only did Cam Ward do that, but Chim Dike makes some big-time plays,
down the field, make some catches, four catches for 55 yards,
breaks the NFL rookie record for all-purpose yards.
he beats Tim Brown, Tim Brown, one of the best wide receivers of all time.
Chim D.K., rookie record in the NFL for most all-purpose charts.
And he broke it in this game, and he made plays throughout the game.
All right, and then you add to that, Elycheonner.
Elykeyeo Manor had a really good game.
Four catches, 37 yards, had a touchdown catch as well.
And a bunch of those were physical catches.
At least two of them were big physical catches where he went up and made a play,
and that's exactly what you're supposed to see.
from Elicio Manor.
So we got the speed of Chim Dekay
making plays, affecting the defense,
we got the physical nature
of Elyo Manor
going up and making combat catches.
We got that in this game.
And if you're somebody who wants the Tennessee Titans
to make it a priority to re-sign Chigacanquo,
look, I am up and down on Chigacanquo.
That's a conversation for another day.
But if you want him back
and you think that's a priority for the Titans,
well, him and John's.
and Cam Ward continued to show good chemistry in this game.
So, there was a lot to lie, and then Jeffrey Simmons,
just absolutely dominant.
The Titans' offensive line struggled later in the game for sure,
but there were moments of just great play
from the Titans' offensive line early on
with some of the protection that Cam had.
And again, a lot of the offensive line is going to be back next year.
So, Jeff Good, Cedric Gray, good in this game.
There were bad plays. Make no mistake about it.
There were bad plays.
Cam had bad plays, all that.
But again, you look at the total package from the Titans,
and this is what the losses were supposed to look like.
This is what we wanted to see from the Titans.
We wanted Cam to look good.
We wanted the young guys to make plays.
We wanted a competitive and entertaining football game.
And ultimately, while I wanted to win,
and I'm disappointed that the Titans lost,
one of the small advantages that we get to have as a terrible football team
is hey you know what they did lose
I wanted to win
but it did help their draft position
you know so it's like even if they lose
it's not all for not it's not all for not
even if I wanted them to win I wanted the Titans to go out and win this game
they're up 26 to 20 we're living high at half time I'm playing ring of
fire on my phone, getting fired up.
You know what I mean? I wanted them to win this game.
But you do have to get out of the emotions and I try my best
after the game ends to get out of the emotions of the game for a moment
and think about the reality here.
Cam played well, the young guys played well, the game was fun, it was competitive.
There were awesome plays that were exciting to watch.
The Titans, important players made important plays throughout the game
and ultimately they didn't win, they lost but a loss in this scenario.
now the Titans are in the top five of the draft after being down to six.
You know what I mean?
They're rising back up and the Giants and the Raiders are playing right now,
0-0 in the first quarter.
One of them loses.
One of them wins.
Maybe they win again next week.
Winnable games.
You never know.
I hope the Raiders win now because I think the Raiders can win again next week against Kansas City.
Titans could move up there potentially.
Like, I think that is still in the realm of politics.
possibility. So you try to look on the bright side here, and again, I think everything that
we saw from the Titans today in the total picture at large, this was a perfect loss for the
Titans, and at the beginning of the season, this is what I hope the losses would look like.
Cam looks good, young players make plays, Titans are competitive and fun, and they end up losing.
That's what I expected the games to look like and hoped the games to look like.
So with that being said, though, watching the New Orleans Saints out there and watching
in the way that they won this game
and came back in the second half,
boy, it makes you wish
that Cam Ward had his Chris Olive and Kellyn Moore.
Do you want to let you guys know

Titans fans.
Let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
Again, I thought this was a perfect loss for the Tennessee Titans.
This is exactly what it was supposed to look like.
But watching the New Orleans Saints made me think of everything that the Tennessee Titans.
desperately need.
First and foremost,
who dominated for the Saints on offense?
Who allowed the Saints to come back and win that game?
Chris Olave,
eight catches, 119 yards,
and a touchdown,
including a 60-yard bomb there at the end of the game,
and then the huge touchdown at the start of the second half.
Chris Olave was absolutely insane in this game.
He was incredible.
He was the best player on the field.
Joanne Johnson, the very talented tight end for the New Orleans Saints.
Four catches, 95 yards.
The Saints went up tempo in the second half.
They tested the Tennessee Titans substitution packages,
wouldn't let them rotate their defensive line,
got them in pressure situations when they had their backups in
so that the Titans couldn't get their starters back on on the field.
Brilliant coaching.
Brandon Staley, again, I told you guys before,
the game. I talked about this before the game all week long.
The Saints over the last six weeks had been a top
three pass defense in the NFL.
They were third in EPA per dropback.
They have been incredible over the last six weeks.
That is one of the best past defenses in the NFL.
And again, Cam Ward had a very good game against them.
But with that in mind, with that in mind,
they have this great secondary, this defense that's playing awesome.
Brandon Staley, a former head coach, as their defensive coordinator.
And I'm looking over at the Titans, and I see Keem-on Hall.
And listen, I like the way that Keem-Mong-Hall plays hard.
I was tweeting during the game if you don't follow me on Twitter at Tick-Tac Titans.
Feel free to follow me there.
I tweet literally during the entire game if you want real-time analysis non-stop during the games.
but like I like watching Keem-on-Hull play
because he plays hard
he hits hard, he gets down the hill
he's not afraid, he's physical
and we saw him get juke out of his shoes
and then run back during the game
and rip the ball out of Dante Pettis' hands
and fumble it into the end zone for a touchback
like he plays hard
but he got absolutely cooked in this game
cooked
and it's Keem-on-Hall
they picked him up off the scrap heap
three weeks ago or whatever
four weeks ago.
And we're seeing
Kyir Elam get burnt
on a cover for coverage
outside responsibility.
We're seeing Micah Robinson
out there.
We're seeing Darrell Baker Jr.
get beat deep down the sideline.
We're seeing Kendall Brooks.
Kendall Brooks was awful.
Number 30.
And again, I like Kendall Brooks.
He plays hard
on special teams
and he'll come up and hit you
just like Keemont Hall.
But God, they can't cover
to save their lives.
and they just got roasted and toasted all game long.
And I'm looking at the saints and I'm like,
I see what God has done for others
and I want you to do that for me,
if you guys know what I mean?
You know what I mean?
Like, what if Cam Ward had a Chris Olavé?
What if Cam Ward had a Joanne Johnson?
What if Cam Ward gets his Kellyn Moore
to set him up the way that Tyler Shucks being set up?
by Kellen Moore
and to go up tempo to take advantage
of substitution packages.
I don't even think that Bo Hardigree
and Mike McCoy have done that terrible
of a job as of late.
But they also aren't like
our next head coach needs to be better
than Mike McCoy.
Our next offensive
play caller needs to be better
than Bo Harder.
You know what I mean?
Like that is
that is what we need.
the Cam Ward needs his
Kellyn Moore
Cam Ward needs his Chris Olavet
Cam Ward needs his
Juan Johnson
like that's what he needs
he needs his playmakers on offense
and a coach who knows how to call the game
so I'm just watching the game
and it's hard for me
it's hard for me to ignore that
that is like the number one thing
that is giving me hope
as you see the way that
put these two conversations together
put the peanut butter with the jelly here folks
Cam Ward played awesome
showed the full package
Jim Dike
broke an NFL rookie record
played good
Elyoh Manor showed exactly
what makes you excited about him
with the physicality in the combat catches
Jeffrey Simmons was dominant
got over double-digit sacks
for the first time in his career
which is what I've been asking him to do for years
and he did it he's been incredible
He won the NFL
charity award
for Christmas week
for everything that he did
had four different events
all of that stuff happened
without
Cam Ward having his
Kellyn Moore
without Cam Ward having a Chris O'Lave
and a Joanne Johnson
without having
good weapons and good coaching
so when you think about that
I don't know like again
and I'm see I'm you know
I see the comments why are you being so positive
what's there to be positive about
what is there not to be positive about
I knew that the Tennessee Titans were a bad team
you knew that the Tennessee Titans were a bad team
we knew that
so everything that
you want to see from a bad team going into an off season where you're going to get a head
coaching change and you're going to have high draft picks and you're going to have the most
cap space in the NFL. That is exactly what you want. And seeing the New Orleans Saints
turn it around in the middle of the season when they have their coach in place and they have
a couple of extra weapons that the Titans don't have, when you see the next step of where
it goes, it makes you excited. Because what the Titans should want to
be next year is like what the Saints are doing right now.
Four straight wins with their big time players make a big time plays.
Their young quarterback looks good.
Their head coach has them rolling.
They're massively improved on both sides of the ball in the second half of the season.
Like what the Panthers did last season.
Playing very competitive, strong, hard football down the stretch
with their new head coach,
that's what you want to see from the Titans.
So to see the Titans be competitive
with that football team right now
knowing that the Saints are a tick ahead of the Titans
in so many critical spots
that's what makes this a great outcome.
Like, it's not like if the Titans won this game
it was going to change their season.
It's not like if the Titans won this game,
the season is a success
and now it's a failure.
All of the things that make the season a success
when you're a bad football team
are the things that we saw in the game.
So yeah, I'm optimistic.
Yeah, I'm being positive.
The Titans have three wins on the year.
You think one more loss is going to change
whether Cam Ward's performance
should make me feel optimistic or not?
You should feel optimistic.
Does that mean that things are solved forever?
The Titans are going to turn it around and it guarantees they're going to be Super Bowl contenders at one point in time?
No.
But these are the signs that you want to see from your team.
And again, it makes it even louder when you look across the field and you see why did the Saints win the game?
Because their coaching staff was way better in the second half.
They beat the Titans 24 to 6 in the second half.
24 to 6
their coaches
dominated the Titans
in the second half
they have a Chris Olave
and a Jawan Johnson
those are the things
that if Cam Ward has those
next year again
if this time next year
Cam Ward has a head coach
that we're excited about
that's getting the best out of him
and the offense
he has a weapon
that he can rely on
whether it comes from the draft
whether it comes from free agency
or both
a couple extra weapons
at wide receiver or tight end
that he can rely on.
Like that is, that is the next step.
That's where this is going.
And with the performance of Cam Ward
and Jim D.K. and Elicio Manor and Jeffrey Simmons,
that makes you believe that that is capable.
So I wanted to win this game,
but make no mistake about it.
With where the Titans are at in their cycle as a team
and where we know them to be,
this is a really good loss to experience.
And the way that it happened has to be very excited for the future.
I felt things during that game
that I've not felt in a long time as a Titans fan.
It feels good to be upset that they didn't win
and to be able to step back from that and say,
okay, they didn't win.
But all of these things that happened in this game
and where this boat is going,
where we're rowing right now,
is going in the right direction.
That's what this game is all about,
even in the disappointment of a loss.
You have to step back and have perspective here.
So, with that being said,
a lot of you guys told me that I was dumb.
All week long, a lot of you guys told me, Tyler, you're an idiot.
Who cares about winning?
We need to focus on the draft pick.
If that's you, if that's you, boy, do I have good news for you.
It was a great holiday weekend.

of the Locked-on Titans podcast.
We talked about why I'm disappointed
the Titans loss, but this is a perfect
loss for the Titans based on our
pre-season expectations. We talked about
why I cannot wait for Cam Ward
to have his Chris Olavé, his
Kellyn Moore, and what that could be
for the Titans going forward.
But now, hey, listen, I
wanted to win. I didn't care about the draft
pick, but at the end of the day, a lot of
you do, and it was a good,
good week for the draft pick
enjoyers for the Titans Tank
movement and we got a lot of help from a lot of different places. Before I get into it,
thanks again for making Locked on Titans. You're at first listen each and every day. Remember
Monday through Friday Tennessee Titans content all year round always for free and thank you
for making the Lockdowne Podcast Network, the number one sports podcast network. But
the Cleveland Browns, I told you guys on Friday show, I told you guys on Friday show that
I had a feeling that the Browns could win this game, division game.
The Steelers always play down to their competition when they're due for a stinker.
The Steelers were due for one, and the Cleveland Browns went out there and won 13 to 6.
It was one of the ugliest games that I have ever seen.
Shador Sanders through one of the ugliest interceptions that I've ever seen in my life.
But the Steelers' offense was even uglier.
Dear God, do not mention Arthur Smith to me as a head coaching candidate.
I want zero to do with Arthur Smith.
He is not an NFL head coach.
He's not even that good of an office.
offensive coordinator, like, we cannot do this.
Get out of my face with anything Arthur Smith related.
Like, I wouldn't even be 100% sold on him as an OC, let alone the Titans head coach.
Yeah, right.
Get out of here.
It's appalling to me, quite honestly.
It ruins my appetite when people mention Arthur Smith to me.
But regardless, his incompetence is the Tennessee Titans game.
Because the Cleveland Browns won.
That means they went to four wins on the season.
that means it breaks a tie with them and the Titans with three wins.
So now the Titans have the number five pick in the NFL draft as of right now.
Now, I will tell you this.
The odds of them moving up any more than that is very low.
It's very low.
And I will remind you once again that the number one tiebreaker for draft positioning,
draft positioning is strength of schedule.
the more difficult your strength of schedule
the lower your pick
so the Titans right now have the second highest strength of schedule
in the NFL them in the Arizona Cardinals
continue to bounce back and forth
right now the Titans are at 0.576
and the Cardinals are at 0.577 so right now
the Titans actually have the fourth pick in the draft
as things stand right now
because Cleveland dropped back to number six.
And Cleveland was a team that wants to trade up for a quarterback.
I want as many teams that want to trade up for a quarterback
behind the Titans as possible.
So, you know, maybe Mendoza goes number one,
but who's going to go after that?
You know, maybe Dante Moore doesn't go
and the Titans can get to the third pick
and who knows what could happen there.
Now, you look at the jet strength of schedule, 5-5-2,
Titans probably aren't going to be able to get close to that.
Vegas 541, Giants 530.
Odds are that the Titans at 576 are not going to be able to pass those teams.
Now, one of the Giants or Raiders is going to lose.
They're playing right now.
But again, whoever wins the game is only going to go to three
and the Titans still have a stronger strength of schedule.
So that's not going to help the Titans pass those teams.
But I talked about it earlier.
The Raiders play the Chiefs the last week of the season
and the Chiefs won a tank as well.
And maybe the Raiders win this game against the Giants.
They're losing right now.
Maybe they win the game against the Giants somehow.
They come back and win,
and then the Raiders win again next week against Kansas City.
And then maybe the Titans get the number three pick.
And it's the Giants at number one,
the Jets at number two, the Titans at number three.
And I think that could still be advantageous for the Tennessee Titans.
And that would help as well.
So right now the Titans have the number four overall pick
that's probably going to hold throughout this week.
We'll see what happens.
next week that strength of schedule is very, very important for the Tennessee Titans.
Again, I wanted to win.
I wasn't concerned about the draft pick,
but I will say it's not that bad to, you know,
get your butt kick and come home to a nice fat kiss from a top five draft pick.
It's not the worst thing that ever happened.
You know what I mean?
And not only are the Titans in the top four for draft pick purposes
after this loss to the New Orleans Saints and the Browns win.
But if you're worried about the 3rd,
Tennessee Titans conditional draft pick from the Baltimore Ravens,
that got a major boost this weekend as well.
So throwback to before the trade deadline,
the Tennessee Titans traded Draymont Jones to the Baltimore Ravens
for a conditional fifth round pick.
It's a fifth round pick that could go up to a fourth round pick
if the Baltimore Ravens make the playoffs and if Draymont Jones has two sacks.
Well, Draymont Jones already has two and a half sacks for the Baltimore Ravens,
so checked that box.
The box that needed to be checked
was the Ravens to make the playoffs.
And it did not look good last weekend
as the Baltimore Ravens lost in comeback fashion
disgustingly to the New England Patriots
and the Pittsburgh Steelers won against the Detroit Lions.
It looked like that hope was over.
But again, like I told you,
I called it, the Cleveland Browns beat the Pittsburgh Steelers.
the Ravens go into Lambo and beat the Green Bay Packers
and Malik Willis who played very well in that game but still lost
shout out Derek Henry who went for over 200 yards
and four touchdowns, a historic performance from Derek Henry
most 200-yard games in NFL history
so now the Ravens play the Steelers in week 18
for the AFC North
and if the Ravens win,
that game.
The Titans' fifth round pick becomes a fourth.
Huge.
Huge.
So, whether you're worried about the number one overall pick
or the first round pick, I should say number one overall pick
is not happening.
That's done, can't happen so possible.
Whether you're worried about the first round pick
draft positioning, which also affects, you know,
the rest of the draft, like where your pick is in the other rounds,
or whether you're worried about the conditions of that Ravens pick,
we are in a good spot with those two things
and especially with the Cardinals
passing the Titans and the strength of schedule
for the last couple of weeks
it may be by you know
a thousandth of a point
but it is desperately needed
for the Tennessee Titans so that's absolutely critical
if they could have beaten Arizona
but still found a way to pick ahead of them
that's absolutely awesome
so that would be good stuff so again
the Titans lost
I'm disappointed
of course
However
Cam Ward was really good in this game
DK and IO were good in this game
The O line had good moments in this game
Jeffrey Simmons continues to be dominant
Got his double-digit sack season
DK breaks a rookie record
The Titans are competitive
They were entertaining
You see what it could look like
When you have a Chris Olave
And you have a good head coach
And then the Titans draft pick situations
Both got better
So could have been
better with a win, but let's not pretend like it was a bad weekend for the Titans either.
With that being said, though, that is going to do it for me today, folks.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland, and this was Locked on Titans.
