Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans HELP Mike Borgonzi with MASSIVE HIRE of Dave Gardi & OTAs ARE SET TO BEGIN TODAY!
Episode Date: May 21, 2026The Tennessee Titans saw Chad Brinker exit earlier this offseason and it left a lot of duties unmanned that may have fallen to general manager Mike Borgonzi. While capable, Borgonzi would logically lo...se some of the time he uses for football-related activities. That would not help the Titans win football games so a big hire was made of Mike Gardi. Gardi will assist with the side quests of being a GM. Today also marks the first open practice of organized team activities and it's an exciting day with Robert Saleh and Cam Ward set to speak. The Tennessee Titans helped General Manager Mike Borganzi in a major way with a big hire in the front office.
I'm going to tell you who it was and why it was so important on today's edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast.
I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans.
On today's show, we're going to get ready for organized team activities.
The Tennessee Titans are going to have open practice today.
We're going to hear from players.
We're going to hear from Robert Sala.
I'm going to get you guys ready to go for that.
But we're going to start with a big time hire that the Tennessee Titans made in the front office
that is going to help general manager Mike Organzi in a massive way.
And that hire was Mike Jardy.
And Jardy may not be a name that you recognize.
Again, we'll talk about Jardy and his credentials.
and why I think this could be so beneficial to the Titans.
But the most important thing about this hire is it helps Mike Borganzi.
So Jardy is being hired as the executive vice president of football operations.
And he is going to report directly to Mike Borganzi, the general manager.
And that structure makes a ton of sense.
And remember, this is basically a replacement for Chad Brinker,
who exited earlier this all season.
and when you look at what the duties are going to be of Mike Jardy,
and when you look at what Chad Brinker was doing,
it's basically a one-for-one.
We're talking about handling the medical staff, the equipment,
the travel, the lodging, you know, turf maintenance and things like all of the,
what I would call all of the no-fun aspects of being a general manager.
When you're the general manager of a football team,
the reason you do that is so you can scout, draft, sign players,
manage a roster, do the roster,
cut downs, churn the back end, make your decisions. Like, that is the fun part. Imagine if you
traveled but never actually got to have vacation. Like, that's basically what Chad Brinker was doing
because he had to do all of those maintenance items, medical staff, equipment staff, travel,
lodging, you know, the cooks in the kitchen and the dietitians. And he had to manage all
of that stuff, but he didn't actually get to work on the roster. My Borganzi was the guy
working on the roster. So once Chad Brinker leaves, because he wants to go,
be more involved in the football aspects of the front office than some of these logistical
items and executive items, well, you don't want Mike Borganzi to have to take over
all of those different things. Because that's going to, just logically speaking,
if he has to now do all of those things, that's less time to focus on football.
That's less time to watch film, less time to make calls, less time to talk to scouts,
less time to talk to coaches, less time to be at the practice field.
It's just less time that he can devote to the actual thing
that will make this football team win games.
He's doing all the back end stuff.
So Mike Jardy was hired to do those things that Chad Brinker was doing,
but the difference is Brinker wanted to be more involved in the football stuff,
which is why he stepped away.
I don't think that's any mystery that we need to solve.
Jardy is a guy who was fine with the duties that he is being hired to do
and excels in those areas.
Let's talk about Jardy for a moment.
I'm not going to act like I knew who that was this morning,
but you look into the credentials spent, you know, 20 years
in the NFL league office, working on league policy,
league procedures, cap rules, roster rules,
working on the collective bargaining agreement.
This is a guy who not only oversaw those policies,
but help institute some of these policies.
So the Tennessee Titans,
Think about it this way.
The Tennessee Titans are trying to,
you don't want to say cheat.
They're not trying to cheat.
But you're trying to do as much as you possibly can within the rules.
You're trying to find every loophole.
You're trying to find every special thing that you can do.
Well, who better to find those little loopholes
and those little crevices and those little margins that you can take advantage of?
Then a guy who helped build the system.
Then a guy who upset the policies that you're looking to find.
loopholes through. He worked on cap mechanisms and contract structure rules and all of those
different things. So who better to help the Titans find margins maximize different advantages,
fine loopholes, things like that than someone who was involved on the other side of closing the
loopholes who would know them better than anybody else. He was the NFL senior vice president
of football operations for multiple years. He then spent the last two years with the Washington
and commanders is their vice president of football initiatives.
I believe what was the role.
But again, this is somebody who saw it all take place
and set it all up from the opposite side.
So now when he comes into this playing field,
he's going to know the rules better than anybody else.
And again, he's going to be helping with cap and scouting
and the logistical duties.
You know, all of the groundwork,
all of the logistical work that goes into being a general manager.
and again, that is so important,
not just because he is qualified
and his history and expertise
makes me very excited about what he could bring
to the Tennessee Titans.
Not only that,
but it remains
Mike Organzi's sole responsibility
to focus on the roster.
And you don't put all this extra work
on the general manager.
So for multiple,
this makes the Chad Brinker thing
make more sense.
This makes the Titan setup make more sense.
This makes the Titan.
responsibilities make more sense and it makes a lot more sense for Mike Burgundy.
But with that being said, talking Titans football, worrying about the roster, that's what we're
about to do all summer long.
And the Titans first open OTA takes place this afternoon.
Robert Sal is going to speak here in the next 20, 30 minutes.
What am I looking forward to most?
Let's get ready for it.

We talked about the big hire that's going to help Mike Borganzi of Mike Jardy.
That's great news.
But now I want to focus on OTAs, which again, kick off here very, very shortly.
Robert Salah is going to speak before practice.
The Titans are going to go to practice.
Then they're going to be players speaking afterwards.
Very excited for that.
Robert Salah, again, on the,
docket. I'm going to be breaking down everything that you need to know that happened at OTAs
later tonight on our, you know, regular Locked on Titans podcast, the full episode edition.
Make sure, again, that you get subscribed, stay subscribed to the number one Tennessee
Titans podcast in the world Lock on Titans. And shout out to my everydayers out there.
Tune in Monday through Friday. Couldn't do it without you guys. If you aren't an everydayer,
you need to be one. But I want to hear from
Robert Sala again about the offensive line.
How long do you think the O line group would need to be ready for the regular season?
When do you think you need to have your offensive line figured out?
What is your just thought on that?
I want that question asked.
Questions about Kevin Winston's usage on defense.
If they're going to bring in a veteran to challenge Marcus Harris at the nickel spot,
what's the rotation going to be like?
you're so gung-ho about Keldrick Falk rushing on the interior on passing downs.
Is he going to get any opportunity to rush from the edge on passing downs?
What's the thought there?
What do you need to see from Anthony Hill for him to be in the discussion for a starting role?
Would Cedric Gray be the Mike linebacker?
How are you going to use Cornell Tate out of the gate?
Are you going to treat him like a number one wide receiver out of the gate and just build that way?
What are you looking for from Cam?
he'd mentioned Cam's fitness
on and off the field professionalism
multiple times.
How does he feel about Cam Ward's body
and shape and fitness coming into
this OTA period?
Those are questions that I would like to ask Robert Sala.
You're going to get Cam out there.
Of course, we're going to ask,
I'd love to see questions about the offense,
how he feels in it,
how quickly he's picking up the terminology,
all the different nicknames
for the route combinations,
concepts, things like that.
Wondell Robinson, you know,
what about Brian Dable's offense
allows you to have so much success?
Has that carried over to what you've done so far?
And do you think that you'll be able to have that same amount of success?
Ask Pete about the people next to him.
I want to ask Pete how soon he thinks the offensive line needs to be set
so that they can grow as a group and be ready for the regular season.
How does he feel about potentially having two rookies next to him?
Amani Hooker, let's be honest.
who's going to ask, hey, your level of play
wasn't as high as it's been in the past last year.
Would you agree with that assessment?
And if you do agree, how do you get back to the standard
that you've set in this league?
I doubt anybody will ask the question that forward
and put their own opinion of his play out there.
I guess that's maybe toe in the line of what the reporters will be,
beat reporters would be willing to do.
Maybe that's why it's better for me not to be on the beat
because I would just say,
Amani, I didn't think last year was your best season in the league.
How do you improve your level of play?
Do you agree with that?
That might be something that Titans PR doesn't want ask to their players.
Titans are pretty tight about this kind of stuff.
But if you could find a way to ask that,
I would ask that question because Amani Hooker did not play well last year.
He has to know that, right?
He has to know it wasn't his best season.
Now, he may have different excuses for it,
but at least he can acknowledge,
yeah, I didn't look that good out there last year.
and he could say, oh, because of the system,
all the guys hurt in the secondary,
all the injuries that we dealt with,
you know, up front, all the upheaval
constantly throughout the season with the trades
and the roster moves and all that different stuff.
He could say a bunch of different things,
but I would at least like him to acknowledge
that it wasn't a very good year for him
and he needs to play better.
So hopefully we get that.
But hopefully we get some good highlights.
I don't think it's going to be like training camp
where we get like, oh, so-and-so made this catch
and so-and-so made this play
and so-and-so threw a bomb to this guy.
like how we get training can't reports from the beats, but maybe, maybe.
So, but just saying, I'm excited for Titans football.
It's practice, it's something, and I'm going to be here to break it all down.
I did want to throw in one last thing.
The Titans picked their sideline reporter for the season.
Remember, we talked about Ramon Foster being added as the color analyst for the Titans, commentator.
Kevin Dyson, my guy Brad Hopkins from the Titan Squad show,
Ben Jones and Mark Mariani are going to rotate doing it.
Very interesting.
Again, the local stuff doesn't matter as much to me
because I don't watch the local broadcasts and things like that.
I'm not local, so it doesn't really impact anything for me, quite honestly.
But it seems pretty cool.
And shout out Brad Hopkins from the Titan Squad show
if you needed another reason to turn into the squad shows
and put that into your Locked-on Titans repertoire.
There you go.
You're going to get sideline analysis from Brad Hopkins
and then on the Locked on Titans podcast multiple times a week.
So you've got to check out the squad show there.
But with that being said, though, again, I'll be back after OTAs
to break everything down.
So excited for that.
Make sure that you're here.

That's going to do it for me today, folks.
