New Tennessee Titans cornerback LeJarius Sneed was an absolute steal.
I'll explain why on today's edition of the Locked On Titans podcast.
Let's get it.

LeJarius Sneed was an absolute steal.
I'm going to explain why.
Also, Brian Callahan speaks on specific roles
for offensive players. Very interesting quotes there. And the NFL released a ton of new rules
on Tuesday, and some of them have a big impact on the Tennessee Titans. I'm going to dive into
all of that. Before I do, thank you for making the Locked on Titans podcast your first listen
each and every day. Remember, Monday through Friday,
Tennessee Titans content all year round,
always for free.
Make sure you get subscribed.
Stay subscribed.
It's your team every day
here on the Locked on Titans podcast.
Make sure you throw a thumbs up on the video
if you're watching on YouTube.
Shout out to my everydayers out there
tuning in Monday through Friday.
Couldn't do it without you guys.
Also want to let you know, my Legereus Sneed film breakdown
will be live at 8 a.m. Eastern time on the Tic Tac Titans film channel.
I'm going to put a link down below in the description to that video.
Make sure that you guys check it out.
And also, get yourself some Tic Tac Titans merch
that my sister so graciously created.
But with that being said, all the promo out of the way.
LeJarius Sneed was an absolute steal for the Tennessee Titans.
I mean, number one, just as a player, we've discussed it all week.
Lockdown, shutdown, number one corner,
press your number one wide receiver, dominate the matchup.
Andy Reid talked to Paul Kaharski at the league owners' meetings
and even said LeJarrius Sneed is as good of a person as he is a player.
Incredibly tough.
Shutting down No. 1 wide receivers every week for us.
And he admitted, no, it's kind of a financial thing.
The reason they had to let Sneed go.
They have other people to pay, obviously.
They're paying Mahomes and Kelsey and Chris Jones and so many people. Such big money that somebody had to go. They have other people to pay, obviously. They're paying Mahomes and Kelsey and Chris Jones and so many
people such big money that somebody
had to go. And the Titans
in that scenario
were able to slide in and again
get an absolute steal
in the deal that they got for
LeJarius Snead. And it's
multi-level here. It's not just the money.
It's not just the trade terms.
It is both. So number one,
let's look at the contract because the
contract became official
on Tuesday. The Titans still haven't tweeted
it out, but we got Ian Rappaport tweeting it out
reporting from Paul Kaharski that the physical
was done. So the Jerry Estes
passed his physical. That will
secure the deal for the Titans
and the contract
for years
$76 million,
with $55 million guaranteed.
And that sounds like a lot of money, and don't get me wrong.
It absolutely is a boatload of money.
But when you look at that within the scale of other cornerbacks,
it becomes obvious how much of a steal the Tennessee Titans really got.
Number one, we're going to look at some information
from SpotTrack.com.
Mike Giannetti, I believe, is the guy's name
who runs the account here.
The highest paid cornerbacks
based on average salary in the NFL,
LeJarrius Sneed is sixth.
Jair Alexander at $21 million.
Denzel Ward at 20 million
Marshawn Lattimore at 19.5
Marlon Humphrey at 19.5
Trevon Diggs
at 19.4
all of them are getting a higher average
salary per year than
LeJarrius Sneed who in my opinion
outside of Denzel Ward
and maybe Sauce Gardner
I would take LeJarrius Sneed over all of those cornerbacks.
So we were hearing when everything was getting fleshed out
that LeJarrius Sneed was going to be looking at $22 million per season,
$21 million per season, and clearly that did not happen.
So an excellent, excellent value.
And again, once Sauce Gardner gets paid here soon,
some of these other cornerback contracts come in.
Like we talked about with Calvin Ridley,
this is incredible value by Rand Carthon on the average per year.
But not only that, look at the guaranteed money,
the $55 million in guaranteed money for LeJarius Sneed.
Again, according to SpotTrack,
that is only the fourth highest guaranteed total
in the NFL. Denzel Ward got 71 million guaranteed. Marlon Humphrey, who I believe Lajarius Sneed is
a much better player than right now, got 67 million dollars. Marshawn Lattimore, 58 million dollars.
Lajarius Sneed got less than all of them in guaranteed money.
And that's not even like you get the guaranteed money
and then you get the fully guaranteed money afterwards.
So that total is going to be even lower
when we get the full details of the contract structure.
So you're telling me that the Tennessee Titans
gave a brand new contract to LeJarius Sneed,
who was just maybe the best corner in the NFL last year,
and they paid the fifth most or the fourth most
and guaranteed the sixth most in average per year?
That is an absolute value and an absolute steal,
and I think the Titans really benefited here
by sneaking in late in the process
because we're halfway through the first week of free agency. We're through the first week of free
agency. There was nobody else with the money to make this deal. So the Titans did a great job with
the contract, getting good value there. But also look at the trades. You want to talk about the
trade terms. Look at the trades for cornerbacks that have happened in recent years. Carlton Davis and a sixth and a fifth or a sixth in 2024,
a sixth in 2025 and Carlton Davis got a 2024 third round pick.
And LeJarrius Sneed only gets a seventh round pick swap in a third next year.
Snead only gets a seventh round pick swap and a third next year?
What?
How is that possible?
Not only that, Razul Douglas, good player Razul Douglas,
but Razul Douglas got a third round pick in 2024.
The Packers traded him to the Bills for a third round pick this year. So Razul Douglas is going to get you more in a trade
than LeJarius Sneed?
What a deal
by Rand Carthon. I mean,
Jalen Ramsey got a third
round pick in that year's draft
and Hunter Long, a player.
Jeff Okuda got a fifth round
pick in this year's draft in his
trade.
You go back even further.
Bradley Robey.
Bradley Robey.
Garnered a 2023 third round pick,
which is a year later.
It would be the 2025 now.
And then a 2023 sixth.
A third and a sixth.
For Bradley Robey.
I mean, I've talked about
LeJarrius Sneed and his impact
on the Titans as a team
we talked about LeJarrius Sneed as an individual
player with his skill set yesterday
I'm going to break down the tape on my
Tic Tac Titans film breakdown on LeJarrius Sneed
but just what the Titans have done
here and the value that they've got
whether you look at the contract, whether you look at the trade value,
what an absolute steal by Ran Carthon.
Let me know how you guys feel about the trade details down below.
Now we got to talk about some Brian Callahan and Ran Carthon talk
because they had some things to say at the league owners meetings
that I think are incredibly pertinent and relevant to Tennessee Titans fans.
So I'm going to dive into that.
Before I do, though,
I do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought to you by FanDuel.

Titans fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
Little technical mishaps there with the transition videos and everything going on.
That's all right. We're powering through here because that's what we do.
We just talked about why LeGarrius Sneed was an absolute steal for the Tennessee Titans.
But now I want to dive into some of the stuff that's happened at the league owners meetings because we got words from Brian Callahan.
We got words from Rand Carthon that I thought were very important.
And we got a ton of new rules that will impact the Tennessee Titans.
So I'm going to dive into all that before I do.
Thank you for making the Locked on Titans podcast your first listen each and every day,
Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year round, always for free.

It's your team every day.
But Brian Callahan had a lot to say at the league owners meetings.
He talked to Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com, and he talked to Kevin Clark of ESPN as well.
And I really want to hone in on what he had to say about Calvin Ridley,
what he had to say about the offensive line,
what he had to say about edge rushers.
So much in here.
Number one,
Brian Callahan was talking about Calvin Ridley
and his role within the offense.
And like I explained to you guys,
when Calvin Ridley and his role within the offense. And like I explained to you guys when Calvin Ridley was
signed and like I explained on my Calvin Ridley film breakdown over at the Tic Tac Titans film
breakdown channel, Calvin Ridley was used as an isolated X wide receiver last year for Jacksonville
and it makes absolutely zero sense that Jacksonville used him in that way. Calvin Ridley needs to be a Z-wide receiver,
which is your wide receiver that is off the line of scrimmage,
that goes in motion, that you can move around the formation.
You should get creative with Calvin Ridley with his speed,
his route running ability, to put him at one isolated spot
and just basically keep him there all the time.
Doesn't make any sense, but we talked about that
at the end of the film breakdown video.
Went over some of the stuff from reception, perception
about his route usage, his route
success rates, all that stuff.
And there were some people
who were worried that, oh, the Titans
just hired the passing game coordinator from Jacksonville.
How do we know that they're going to use him
differently than what they used him last year?
Well, I told you that that shouldn't be a
concern because Callahan is smarter than that.
And he spoke that into words today.
He said, quote,
his speed, his ability to get in and out of breaks,
to separate are really kind of top level
for the position in the league.
He brings an element that we really needed.
The opportunity to add him was really awesome.
Rancor Thon talked about Calvin Ridley as well and he said he's a guy that you can move around to a bunch
of different spots. He's one of the better separators
in the league. One of the better guys working releases, finishing at the
top of his routes.
He gives another explosive element to the offense,
another weapon for our quarterback to throw to.
So if you had any doubt whatsoever about how Calvin Ridley will be used on offense,
you could put those to bed.
You could put those to side.
As I had been telling you, my everydayers will remember,
Calvin Ridley is going to be moved around this offense. He is going to be used
creatively. Nothing like what we saw
from Jacksonville last year. And think
this guy was misused
and still got a thousand yards.
What's he going to do
when he has the rust knocked off from
missing some time and when he's used
more properly in the offense? And
another thing from the Kevin Clark,
as I have been saying as well,
Brian Callahan said we're going to use Calvin Ridley
very similarly to how we use Jamar Chase in Cincinnati.
There you go.
I've been trying to say it, and now it is confirmed by Brian Callahan.
Not only that, though, but we got some offensive line discussion
from Brian Callahan.
He talked about potential options at offensive tackle,
and of course we've been wondering, Jalen Duncan, Nicholas Petit-Ferrer,
Dylan Radins, what's going to go on?
Do they think that they might have a right tackle option?
I wouldn't quite say that.
But Brian Callahan did talk about offensive tackle.
And he mentioned, according to Jim White from TennesseeTitans.com,
he mentioned Nicholas Petit Ferrer and Jalen Duncan
when asked about the right tackle position.
He said both the players have skills.
They just need some more development.
He expects them to compete.
But here's the quote.
But we might end up adding But here's the quote.
But we might end up adding a tackle in the draft.
Callahan also said, quote,
we might end up adding another tackle later.
It could happen a bunch of different ways.
So they're going to add tackle in the draft.
They might add a veteran tackle later on during the summer.
The Titans clearly have a plan.
Add offensive tackle. And hearing that Jalen Duncan and Nicholas Petit-Ferrer are guys who they have a plan at offensive tackle.
And hearing that Jalen Duncan and Nicholas Petit-Ferrer
are guys who they expect
to work at right tackle
kind of clears things up for us.
Another thing,
Brian Callahan said,
he sees Dylan Radins
starting out at guard.
So, there we go.
Some clarity.
Dylan Radins probably going to
work at right guard.
Nicholas Petit-Ferrer and Jalen Duncan are going to get an opportunity
to work at right tackle.
So, I thought that was very informative and it makes a lot of sense.
I've been saying all offseason,
give Dylan Radin's an opportunity to be the starting right guard.
You could save some money with Daniel Brunskill.
Who knows if the Titans are actually going to do that,
but I think giving an opportunity for Dylan Radin's to just work at right guard would be absolutely huge. NPF and Jalen Duncan out at right tackle. That makes sense. That's why the Titans are maybe looking at bringing in a backup left tackle, and then you could draft a guy in the draft. It's all coming together. All right, so I like the plan there. Finally, Brian Callahan talked about edge rusher, and this is what he had to say. And I think there's terminology
in here that's very interesting. Again, from TennesseeTitans.com.
Quote, asked about edge rushers. I think
good. I think with Harold Landry, we've got a guy with proven ability
to rush. I think Arden Key is a proven
situational rusher. I think Arden Key is a proven situational rusher.
I think he played really well
last year. I think we still need
more. You can never have
enough pass rushers.
I think we've got guys who have proven
themselves with the ability to do it.
You'd like to have three of them.
You'd like to have four of them.
I think we have some guys
that can rush the passer
and we'll keep trying to add guys to the position.
Number one, belief in Harold Landry, proven ability to rush.
I agree.
But Arden Key, he says, is a proven situational rusher,
which to me tells me, which to me tells me,
that the Titans don't see Arden Key as a starter.
And I have continued to say throughout the offseason and throughout last year
that Arden Key needs to be your third edge.
He needs to be a guy who can come in on passing downs,
rush inside and outside.
He plays with great energy,
and that energy can wane throughout the course of a game
and the course of a season if you play Arden Key too much.
So slotting Arden Key in more of a, again,
situational rotational pass rushing role
is where you're going to get the most value out of Arden Key.
So watch edge rusher for the Titans in the draft.
I think it'll be very interesting.
And we'll talk about that more as we get closer to the draft,
the possibilities and edge rusher and how that factors in.
But I found that incredibly informative.
Then finally, I do want to point out this one last thing.
Rand Carthon said,
quote,
if I'm being honest,
we weren't able to get Aziz redone,
weren't able to get Danico.
Those were two guys of our own that you'd like to have back.
But they ultimately made the decision that was best for them and their families.
And it's like anything else, when one door closes, another opens.
And us being able to pivot and be fluid allowed us to make some other moves.
You listen to some stuff that Brian Callahan had to say.
It's pretty clear that once Aziz and Autry chose to go to Houston,
the Titans said, okay, fine, we're going to pivot.
And they went out and got Calvin Ridley. So
to me, I'd rather have
Calvin Ridley than overpaying
for Aziz and overpaying for a
34-year-old Danico Autry.
I get some of you guys are really upset they went
to Houston, but to me, those were complete
overpays, and I would much rather
spend that money on Calvin Ridley. So
totally fine with that. But with that being
said, we got more news from the league meetings.
Rule changes that not only you guys will want to know about,
but also that affect the Tennessee Titans.
So I'm going to dive into that before I do.

Titans fans, let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
We talked about why LeJarrius Sneed was such a steal for the Titans comparatively to other things that have happened at the cornerback position.
Some good data there. I hope you guys enjoyed that.
Then we talked about some comments from Brian Callahan and Rancart Thon that shined
some light on how they see the roster
right now. Now I want to talk about some
new rules that the NFL
instated on Tuesday and how
they impact the Tennessee Titans and just
my thoughts on how the Tennessee Titans
are involved in that or how it can
impact them before I get into it. I want to
thank you guys again for making the Locked on Titans
podcast your first listen each and
every day. Again, I am encouraging you all
to go over to the Tic Tac
Titans YouTube
channel where I'm doing all of my film
content this year. Got a

And like I said, Tic Tac
Titans merch. I'm going to have a link
down below. You guys can go
purchase some of that off my sister's website.
Really appreciate any support. It's up to
you guys. Wanted to let you know. But with that being said,
the biggest thing that changed
was the kickoff. The NFL
has completely changed how kickoffs
work after the play had basically
been made irrelevant
throughout last season. They stole, not stole, that sounds bad, but they basically copied
what the XFL has done for kickoffs. So what's going to happen now is instead of the kickoff
team lining up with the kicker on the 35-yard line, the kickoff team is going
to line up on the 40-yard line on the opposite side where the kickoff return team would usually
be.
So it's going to be a line on the 40.
And then the kickoff return team is going to have a line of players on the 35.
The ball is going to be kicked, and once the ball is either caught by the returner or once the ball lands within
the 20 yard line, then the two lines of the kickoff
return team and the kickoff team are able to go at each other and block, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Alright? So, there are additional rules here
where if the ball lands within the 20
yard line in the end zone and then rolls into the end lands within the 20-yard line in the end zone
and then rolls into the end zone,
the team takes a touchback at the 20-yard line.
If you kick it directly into the end zone for a touchback,
the offense gets the ball at the 35-yard line.
It's basically a 15-yard penalty to kick a touchback now.
That's going to encourage more returns.
It's going to,
in the NFL's theory, be safer because guys aren't running at each other from 20 yard run up
distances. They're five yards apart going at each other. So that is the new kickoff rule. They're
going to test it for one year on sidekicks can only happen now. If you alert the officials,
you're doing an onside kick. So surprise onside kicks
are now dead. Me personally, I love this idea. The kickoff was a dead play last year. It was
boring. It was awful. Like 5% of onside kicks got recovered by the kicking team. Only like 22%
of kickoffs actually got returned. They have made it boring. I want less boredom. I want more action.
And this kickoff rule is going to do that. So I'm very excited to see it. But how does it impact
the Titans? To me, this is a great opportunity to get the ball in the hands of your best playmakers.
Tajay Spears and Traylon Burks should be the top two players who go out for this.
Tajay Spears is obvious. He already had some kick return duties last year.
Great wiggle.
Great vision.
Good speed.
He makes a lot of sense.
Burks I got a little bit of pushback on.
Why would you put Traylon Burks out there?
You don't want him to get hurt.
Do you guys remember what Traylon Burks actually did well in college?
It was screens.
They threw him little bubble screens.
And he would just get the ball and then run.
That's basically what you're doing with this kickoff.
You're just getting the ball to a guy in space.
So to me, based on what Traylon Burks has actually showed us he is good at,
this would be a great opportunity to get him in the mix.
And if you draft a wide receiver,
you have Calvin Ridley,
you have DeAndre Hopkins on the outside,
that's going to give Traylon Burks less opportunities
to actually play wide receiver.
So get him more opportunities as a kickoff return guy.
I think that would make a ton of sense.
His skill set fits.
His role on the team would be better with that opportunity.
And some of you guys are,
oh, we don't want him to get hurt again.
He needs to play football.
All right.
Traylon Burks is at just as much risk to get hurt playing wide receiver
as he is doing kickoff return.
So just spare me the, oh, he's going to get hurt.
He's going to get hurt if he plays wide receiver too.
There is no safety out there.
You're not saving anybody or preventing anybody from injury
if they're out on a football field in the NFL.
So spare me that line of thought that he's got a better chance of getting hurt
if he does kickoff return.
He's got a better chance of getting hurt if he plays NFL football.
Like, you're not safe anywhere.
So let's not act like playing wide receiver is safer than doing kickoff return.
And like, get out of here with that.
Not hearing that.
So that was the number one rule.
I also want to point out here,
this is good news for special teams players
because it makes them more important
now that the kickoff is a more important play.
And Nick Folk, this is big for him.
Nick Folk doesn't have the biggest leg.
He's not just booting the ball
through the back of the end zone every time.
So this actually lines up
with an older kicker's strength here.
He could be more of an accuracy guy than a power guy.
So I actually love this for Nick Folk.
Helps him.
Also, you have unlimited call-ups for practice squad quarterbacks.
Again, Malik Willis with the ever-changing quarterback rules in the NFL
continues to get opportunities because the rules have changed
and it's not forcing him off the roster.
So before, you could only elevate a player, I believe, three or four times
off a practice squad before you had to put him on your active roster.
Now, if it's a quarterback, you can leave him on the practice squad all year long
and pull him up as your third emergency quarterback
without ever having to put him on your active roster.
The trade deadline.
The trade deadline has been moved back to the Tuesday
after week nine. It's going to be
November 5th in this year's
season. This was a great move
by the NFL. With a longer season
now, 18 weeks, 17
games, you need to push that trade deadline
back so teams have a better understanding
of where they're at as a team and can
make those decisions to help their franchise, whether
it be buyers or sellers.
So I love that flexibility. It helps the Titans.
Also, new rule, before, if you put somebody on injured reserve
before roster cut down day, from 90 players to 53 players,
if you put somebody on injured reserve before that,
those players were out for the season.
They could never return.
But now the NFL has made it that you could place two players on IR
before the roster is cut down,
and those two players can return during the season.
As a matter of fact, they must return during the season.
That is, they have to hit your active roster based on the rules.
Now it sounds to love that. And then finally, the
hip drop tackle thing.
I think it's absurd. I think
it's hard enough to play defense. But at
the end of the day, I'm not going to stop
watching the NFL because they took out the hip drop
tackle. I didn't even know what a hip
drop tackle was. I didn't know they had
a term for just a tackle. To me, it's just
tackling. That's just every example I've ever seen of a hip drop tackle is. I didn't know they had a term for just a tackle. To me, it's just tackling. That's just every example I've ever seen of a hip drop tackle
is just a tackle in football.
So, just more stuff for the referees to have their input on.
