Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans MAJOR CONCERN at Offensive Line & Edge After DOING NOTHING on Day 2 of Free Agency
Episode Date: March 10, 2026The Tennessee Titans did absolutely nothing on Day 2 of Free Agency and while that doesn't erase all the action they had on Day 1, it does leave you a little concerned about what the plan is for key s...pots like interior offensive line and edge. The Titans need legitimate starters at both spots and shouldn't wait around too long to add guys who can make sense. Positions with less concern, but still needing bodies include linebacker, safety and running back. At this point, the Titans are looking at cheap depth at all three, but still need to fortify those to move into the draft safely. Finally, a lot of national media are criticizing the Titans signings on Day 1 and it seems to be devoid of the reality of not only where the Titans are at, but what these players mean to the psychological side of football where the Titans need improvements as much as on the field. The Tennessee Titans did absolutely nothing on day two of NFL free agency,
and while it's not time to panic, I'm still majorly concerned about some of their biggest needs.
I'll explain on today's edition of Locked on Titan.

But with that being said, again, the Tennessee Titans did absolutely nothing on day two of free agency.
And look, it's not time to panic.
I'm not here to overly criticize Mike Borganzi and the Titans.
Oh, you guys didn't do nothing.
I mean, they made nine new signings on Monday.
10 different moves. I'm not gonna come back on day two and be super critical of them but at the end of the day
There are still some big time positions of need that they need to move on
They need to add some bodies there they need to do more than what they've done
Specifically on the interior offensive line and when I did kind of my day to preview show
Earlier in the day we talked about how much cap space the Titans have to use probably still 30 to 35 million dollars that they could still use to sign somebody
They could cut Legerius speed.
They could cut Calvin Ridley.
They could cut Tony Pollard to add more money.
I'm not saying that they have to do all of those things right now,
but it's not like they don't have the ability to continue spending and continue adding.
And at the end of the day, they absolutely must continue spending and continue adding
because especially on the interior offensive line,
it is simply not good enough.
I'm sorry, but you can't look at Austin Schlotman and Cordell Volson
and tell me that the Tennessee Titans have done enough on the interior offensive line.
They have to find a way to go out there and add more significant names to those key positions.
You cannot have Austin Schlotman slated to be your starter going into training camp.
You cannot have Austin Slotman and a rookie going in to compete for a starting position.
They need a legitimate starting NFL player at that,
spot. We talked about the names on the preview. You know, Dylan Parham is still a guy I want. Luke
Fortner is still a guy I want. They could go out and add Elton Jenkins. They could bring Lloyd
Cushingberry back. I would like that better than riding with Austin Schlotman and a rookie
Ethan Posich is still out there as well. Like there is a lot of options. There are a lot of options
out there for the Tennessee Titans to still add a competent guy at the spot. Sure, if you want to sell
as, hey, Austin Schlotman, he's going to have the opportunity to compete.
The rookie's going to have an opportunity to compete.
Then sure, but I'm sorry, it's not good enough with Cam Ward going into year two,
knowing that protection is critical.
You are downgrading from Lloyd Cushingberry.
If you go with Austin Schlotman and a fourth round rookie center
as guys who are competing for the starting spot.
And listen, again, I just want to remind you, it's day two.
I'm not panicking. I'm not trying to say, oh, Borganzi's asleep at the wheel.
But I'm just saying they didn't do anything to address these spots.
And these are critical starting level spots.
Now, I would like to see the Titans bring back Kevin Zitler.
If you sure up the right guard spot with a guy who we know is a starter, then sure.
You can have Jackson Slater or a drafted rookie compete with him.
Cordell Voulson is a backup guy who can compete with him.
Sure, I can accept that.
But that's the kind of signing that I'm talking about here.
Kevin Zitler isn't the long-term answer.
Kevin Zitler isn't an all-pro level guard or something like that.
But he is a competent, respected veteran who we can at least look at in a starting role and say,
okay, I feel comfortable with that.
But to get through two days of free agency and have two starting positions open on the offensive line
when all these other names are coming off the board, it does make me a bit nervous.
It makes me a bit uncomfortable with you.
just how important this is.
I did not expect that when Lloyd Cushingberry was cut,
that the Titans would be telling me,
we're going with Austin Slotman,
a backup, his entire career,
and a drafted rookie.
And again, a lot of you guys want to put in the comments
or hit me up and tell me,
hey, I like this center in the draft.
I like this center on the draft.
Jake Slaughter, Connor Lou, this,
and listen, those guys could be fine.
They could be great players.
But do you remember the last time the Tennessee
Titans drafted a rookie offensive lineman and expected him to be a starter right away in the mid-rounds?
It was Dylan Raidens in round two.
Did Dylan Raidens ever turn into a good starter?
Sure, Carmen Bracillo, the Titans' new offensive line coach, in theory, could make a player better
than maybe what you expect.
But anytime, and I've been saying this since the moment that Lloyd Cushingberry was cut,
any time that you have a young quarterback like Cam Ward, you cannot expect.
a day two or day three draft pick to come in and be a starter right away.
If they are, if they are, then fantastic.
Like, what a home run, what a win.
That's great.
But that's a luxury type deal.
Not something that you need to count on.
You can't draft the center in the third or fourth round and expect them to be a starter.
So with how important it is to protect Cam Ward,
I'm just, I'm a little nervous that the Titans haven't made a legitimate.
addition on the interior offensive line with two starting spots open.
That is not Cordell Vosson.
That is not Austin Schlotman.
I'm sorry.
I refuse.
I refuse to believe that that's the case.
Now, the other position that has me very concerned is edge rusher.
The Titans traded for Jermaine Johnson.
They have Femiola Dacia.
They have Jalen Harold.
I'm sorry, that is not good enough.
Jermaine Johnson is not an elite edge rusher.
Jermaine Johnson is a rotational edge rusher.
Yes, he can be a starter for the Tennessee Titans.
No doubt about it.
He can start.
Femi can rotate in with Jermaine Johnson.
I think those guys can be very similar
in the way that they play and the way that they win.
But where's the other starting edge?
It's not Jalen Harrell.
And yeah, maybe they get that in the draft.
But a lot of you guys want the Titans to take Jeremiah Love.
And if they take Jeremiah Love at number four,
I wouldn't trust any of the other edge rushers
that they're going to take it, you know, pick 35 or pick 66.
I can't trust them to come in and be bona fide starters.
I can't trust them to come in and be bona fideotional players.
The Titans took Femiolidazio in round two last year
and a lot of you guys think he's a bust already.
So what if they take another guy in the second round
who isn't ready to compete right away?
Then what?
Now, Trey Hendrickson, still out there.
clearly his agent is screwing him over.
Like, Trey Hendrickson's agent has cost him so much money.
There's conversations out there that he wants $40 million a year
like DeNeil Hunter got from the Texans.
He ain't getting that.
There are teams out there that are saying,
we want to give you $30 million a year.
And he's saying, Jalen Phillips got $30 million a year.
He had five sacks last year.
He's never had more than eight and a half.
And that came in his rookie year.
I deserve more money than him.
That would be a fair position to take, but clearly there aren't a lot of teams out there
that are biting on Trey Hendrickson right now.
So with that in mind, if the Titans could swoop in,
get Trey Hendrickson on a value, I would be here for it.
But the reality is I don't think that that's going to happen.
But still, at this point,
maybe you give Joey Boso a one year prove-it deal
for $10 million like he got from Buffalo if he's not getting an opportunity from a competitor.
Maybe you bring in a K. Levan Chase on, who I don't really like that much, if I'm honest with you,
but he is a pure pass rusher and a speed guy.
I like Arnold Epiquete from the Atlanta Falcons.
That could make sense.
Leonard Floyd is still out there.
If you want to go down a level, Y.S. Bonessa, Clell and Farrell.
Now, they're more power rushers like you would get with Jermaine Johnson or Femiola Dejio.
But whether it's a high-end player, whether it's depth,
the Titans have a major need at the edge still.
And if you're somebody who wants them to take Jeremiah Love,
well, they're not going to get David Bailey or Rubin Bain or R. Val Rees to fill that other spot.
So I am still, again, it's day two.
I'm not telling you to panic.
I'm not telling you to criticize Mike Borgonzi or anything like that.
But at the end of the day, interior offensive line starters
and your second starter at edge rusher are still wide open.
And the Titans need to do something about it in the first week of free agency.
And I'm going to continue to have my eye on it.
But there are a lot of depth positions that still need help,
and that's what makes me concerned about these top spots
as the Titans still have a ton of work to do on this roster
before we get close to the NFL draft.
Do want to let you know that today's episode is brought to you by 5-hour energy.
Welcome to the 5-hour energy flavor draft folks
with 18 different flavors to choose from,
including new options like confetti craze, fruity rainbow,
cotton candy, there's something for everyone. The board is set. The flavors are ready and I've got
my number one pick for the five hour energy flavor draft and for me I gotta stay with a classic
the grape flavor. It's got that Concord grape flavor that's similar to grape juice or candy
a soft rounded sweetness. It's smooth almost syrup like in the fruit profile consistent
straightforward taste. It's that classic purple candy style finish.
Now, if I didn't go with the grape, my sleeper is the peach mango.
You get that ripe peach flavor on the first sip.
Then the mango comes in to add that tropical depth in sweetness.
It's a smooth, rounded fruit profile.
It's slightly richer in the mouthfield than the citrus flavors.
The sweet aromatic finish at the end, it's a nice, balanced tropical blend.
But here's the thing.
There is something for everyone when it comes to five-hour energy.
So find your new favorite flavor of five hour energy shots available online
and 5hourenergy.com.
That's the number 5 hour energy.com

Fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
Again, we talked about interior offensive line and edge as two positions
that the Titans have still not addressed on day two of free agency
and I can't lie, it has me a little bit.
concerned. I know it's only day two. It's not time to panic, but at the same time,
those are big areas of need where the Titans need starters, and they haven't really done
anything while they've added three cornerbacks and, you know, depth offensive linemen and
a backup tight end and like maybe get some starters in here at key positions. But there are
positions of depth that still need to be filled by the Tennessee Titans as well that
I'm curious to see how they go about it. Now, I'm not
nearly as concerned with these depth positions as I am the positions that we just talked about
because there are a lot more options available at these spots than there are those spots.
I look at, you know, safety, for example.
The Tennessee Titans need a good third safety.
Again, Robert Sala runs a ton of 4-2-5 with three safeties on the field,
especially on early downs.
Now, I will tell you this.
I think after thinking about it
and we'll talk about roles and fits
and all of that later in the week
I'm going to do a full episode on the roles
that I see these free agents in
but the more I think about it
and the more I watch the tape
Alate Taylor has always been better in the slot
but in my opinion you have Kevin Winston
who can be that big nickel
you have Marcus Harris
who I think is better in the slot
but again the more I think
about it, the more I watch tape on Alante Taylor as I get ready for my next Tick-Tac Titans film video.
I think Robert Sala actually does want to use Alante Taylor in the slot.
I think he does want to use him there.
So that could maybe take the place of, you know, instead of having three safety looks,
you just use Alante Taylor in the slot.
But also, you could make the argument that having Alante Taylor on the outside
and Cordell Flot on the outside, they're by far your two best corner.
cornerbacks. So would you be better served
rather than having Alante Taylor in the slot with
Marcus Harris or Josh Williams
on the outside or a rookie on the outside?
Would the Titans be better served in their 425 package
to have Alante Taylor and Cordell Flot on the outside?
Kevin Winston's still at that big nickel.
Amani Hooker is your box safety
and then another safety added in.
So safety is a position that I continue to look at and say
the Titans need to maybe not get a starter there
but they still need to address the depth pretty badly
and Nick Cross still out there
Kevin Byard still out there
Jaquan Brisker still out there
Jason Pinoc still out there
Andre Sisko, Gino Stone still out there
so there are a lot of good options still at safety
which is why I'm not overly concerned about it.
But nonetheless, I think the third safety role
is very, very important in Robert Salas' defense
and they need to treat it like it's very, very important.
But safety is one of those positions where
there are going to be good options on the market for months.
So I would love to see Kevin Byard come home.
I think Jason Penock makes sense.
Nick Cross is my number one safety on the board.
but again, I'm not overly concerned about filling the safety position
like I am interior offensive line or edge rusher.
A position I feel similarly about at this point is linebacker.
Like, I think if the Titans were going to seriously address the linebacker position,
they would have done that already.
They would have made sure that they got Tremaine Edmonds
or they would have paid up for Devin Lloyd,
who only got three years, $15 million.
per season, which is less than what I thought he was going to get.
I think the Titans still have a ton of great options on the board
to go with a coverage-centric linebacker,
like a Leo Chanel, a Bobby O'Caricay, a Willie Gay.
All you guys keep saying, Dre Greenlaw, Drey Greenlaw,
but I'm sorry, I just don't think that Dre Greenlaw is a great player.
Right now, he's had so many injuries.
I know that he's got experience in Robert Salas' defense,
but he played Cedric Gray's position.
the chase and run will linebacker.
He did not play the coverage Mike linebacker spot.
That was Fred Warner.
So I would much rather have Chanel or O'Karek or Gay
who are coverage linebackers.
But here's something that we need to accept.
They might just keep Cody Barton around
and give James Williams an opportunity to beat him out
or draft a guy in the mid-rounds
on day three of the draft
and try to develop him behind Cody Barton.
They might just do that.
They can't solve everything.
They don't want to spend all of,
of their money. Linebacker might be a spot where they decide, hey,
we're going to take a step back and not really do a lot there.
And I don't think that that would be insane. I don't think that that would be a bad decision for
the Titans. Cody Barton played better football later in the year. Now,
he played pretty bad football early in the year. But he is a coverage-centric linebacker
with, you know, decent size, decent length who can run around. He's not good at coming
downhill. He's not a good blitzer.
He's not good at shedding blocks, but as a converted safety,
maybe he is the coverage linebacker the Titans are looking for,
and they would rather draft a guy like, you know, a Rodriguez,
a Jacob Rodriguez or a Kyle Lewis or something like that
and say, hey, you know, we'll develop a guy who we draft in the mid-rounds,
and Robert Sala can use that magic fairy dust that he has on linebackers throughout his career
and get the best out of a guy like that.
I don't think that that would be a bad route to go.
Now, the interior defensive line, yes, they add John Franklin Myers,
but they need a run-stuffing interior defensive lineman
to replace the role that Tavandre Sweat had.
And, you know, a Folli Faulticassi, bringing back Sebastian Joseph Day,
who I think is more of a John Franklin Myers type guy
than he is a run-stuffing defensive lineman,
but it's at least depth in a good player.
Deshaun Hand, who was it, that just got cut
by the Carolina Panthers, Ardarius Washington,
is the safety, but Washington is the last name of the interior defensive lineman that just got,
or Robinson, A. Sean Robinson, boom, there it is, came to me eventually.
Aishon Robinson just got cut by the Carolina Panthers.
He would be a good guy on the interior.
I continue to talk about Deshawn Hand, Kalaya Davis,
is who I think the Titans ultimately end up with.
Now, the Titans don't need to rush to fill those spots.
But it's still, the point is safety, linebacker depth.
Interior defensive line depth.
A starting edge.
Starting guard.
Starting center.
More depth at wide receiver.
More depth at running back.
Now we're here in reports.
The Titans might be interested in David Nunjoku.
So they're going to add a third tight end?
I mean, I would be fine with that.
Let's add as many good players as we possibly can.
And then Joku is more of a receiving threat than Daniel Bellinger.
So he could be a replacement for Chigakanco that is still big enough at 6 foot 4
245 to be an in-line blocker if needed.
A versatile enough tight end to fill a great role in the offense.
But nonetheless, the point is the totality of the depth positions.
And there he goes off the board.
Elton Jenkins signed by the Cleveland Browns.
So there's another starting center option that's gone now.
I mean,
very disappointing. Very disappointing to hear
the Elton Jenkins is off the board.
I thought he would have been a great option
for the Tennessee Titans and now he goes to the Cleveland Brown.
So it's like Dylan Parham, Luke Fortner,
bringing back Cush, Ethan Posich,
like the options to get a legitimate starting center
are dwindling, man, you know?
And it's just disappointing.
So again, I'm not panicking on day two of free agency,
but with the amount of starting spots that the Titans haven't addressed
and then the amount of depth spots,
I mean, they don't have a punner or a kicker either.
They could probably use another wide receiver.
They need a backup running back to add to the group.
Like there's just so much work still to do,
they need to get on it.
That's all I got to say about that.
But with that being said,
seeing some of the national media reaction
to the Tennessee Titans day one of free agency
it's just another reminder of why you guys come to me
why local coverage of the team has blown up
and why national coverage has fallen to the wayside
because these people just don't get it.

Titans podcast. Again, we talked about my concerns with the Titans having starting positions
still open as names go off the board in free agency. We talked about the depth positions that
still need to be filled. The Titans have so much work to do before they get to the NFL draft.
But now I gotta tell you, it's just so frustrating to see the way that the Tennessee Titans are
discussed on a national level. It gives me disgust to see the way they are disgust.
if you know what I'm saying.
And listen, I get it.
The conversations that happen around the Titans,
they don't actually matter.
It's not going to affect the wins and losses.
Whether these free agent moves work, don't work.
The way that they're discussed ultimately isn't going to change
what happens on the football field.
But at the end of the day,
I'm a Tennessee Titans fan,
and it is frustrating to see articles and videos
going around the Internet and blah, blah, blah, blah.
with people who just simply do not get it.
They just simply missed the mark on what the Titans are doing.
You know, Bill Barnwell from ESPN
criticized the Titans to all get out.
He said he liked what they did on the defensive side of the ball,
but talked about how, you know,
they signed a bunch of New York Giants
and a bunch of guys who, you know,
weren't really that good of players like a Daniel Bellinger
and Austin Slotman and stuff like that.
You know, they should have gone out and signed Charlie Kohler
and Charlie Werner who got more money and this and that.
Oh, Daniel Bellinger, they only had a 39.8 success rate on runs when he was on the field.
They had a 40.8 mark when he was on the sideline.
Well, what that would tell me is that Daniel Bellinger wasn't the reason
that the Giants had trouble running the football.
And it's funny, he says the Giants had one of the worst running games in the NFL.
The Giants had the fifth most rushing yards in the NFL last.
year. What are we talking about?
They had one of the worst rushing games in the NFL
and they were top five in rushing yards last year.
Uh, what?
Uh, wait.
You know, like, and then the criticism of Wondale Robinson,
he's a gadget player.
And then you go to Matt Harmon.
I like Matt Harmon's work.
The reception, perception stuff is absolutely fantastic.
Matt Harmon isn't a bad guy or a bad analyst.
And Bill Barnwell is a smart analyst as
It's not like, but that's what's frustrating is these guys are smart analysts
and they just don't get it with the Titans.
Colin Wondale Robinson, a gadget player,
and then saying Chim D.K., like Matt Harmon,
we had this discussion on Twitter directly.
Colin Chim Dekay, similar to Wondale Robinson has been,
I've seen this within the Titans fan base.
It's just a lack of understanding of who these guys are as players.
Wondale Robinson is not like Chim Dike.
Chim Dike is a vertical player
who's not a good short or intermediate route runner
at this stage of his career.
And Wondale Robinson is not a gadget player.
He's a slot wide receiver
but just because you work in the slot
doesn't mean you're a gadget player.
Is anybody calling Amon Ross St. Brown
a gadget player?
Is anybody calling Justin Jefferson
a gadget player?
Like, what are we talking about?
You know, just because you work, like, is this the 1990s
where they don't even use slot-wide receivers
because they're in two tight-end sets all the time?
Wondale Robinson isn't a gadget player.
And again, and this isn't even just national media,
there are local media who are selling doom and gloom
and 19.5 million A-AV, how could you give 90s?
It's not that.
Look at the contract for Wondale Robinson.
that's $38 million guaranteed in two years and then they're out in two years if they need to be.
The contract is incredible.
Romeo Dobbs, who's not as good as Wondale Robinson, just got four years,
$80 million with incentives.
$70 million without.
So it's like nobody thought that Romeo Dobbs was going to get as much money as Wondale Robinson
and he did. Romeo Dobbs has never had 800 yards receiving in a season.
Wondale Robinson just came off to 90 catch seasons and had a thousand yards last year.
How are you going to tell me that Wondale Robinson is a gadget player who got overpaid by the Titans
and then liked the Romeo Dobbs move?
And let me say this.
A lot of these people, I think just want the Titans to stay.
bad. They don't want them to take...
If Wondale Robinson would have went to the Packers or would have went to the Eagles
or would have went to the Rams, they would be praising the move.
Oh, they just got a 90 catch,000 yard receiver to go in this great offense.
What did you want them to do?
Sign nobody is the answer.
If they didn't sign Wondell Robinson, who were they going to sign?
Jalen Naylor?
How are you going to tell me that's better?
Here's what people are missing.
And yes, they signed a bunch of people from the giants
or a bunch of people who have ties to the former coaches.
Yes, you're 100% right.
But like, what does that actually mean?
Why is that important?
Why are the Titans doing that?
It's not just because these players know the coaches.
It's because they can carry the flame of the culture.
They can be culture builders in the locker room
because they know what to expect.
They know who the coaches are.
Not only that, but they can teach the coaches system
to all of the other young players that the Titans have
and at the end of the day,
where people get in trouble is,
you go get free agents who you know nothing about.
You don't know if they're good guys.
You don't know if they're hard workers.
You don't know if they can help you set the culture.
They don't know you.
But the Titans go out and get a Daniel Bellinger,
a bitch, Tribiske.
a Wondale Robinson, an Austin Slotman, a John Franklin Myers, a Cordell Fl.
They go get these guys because they do know what they are getting.
It's not a guess.
It's not a, I wonder, I hope, like a Legerius Sneed.
No, you know what you're getting out of these guys.
You know what kind of people they are.
You know who they are in the locker room and they can help you.
They can be lieutenants to get your soldiers in the right spot.
and a lot of people want to complain about the money.
The Patriots, the Panthers, the Seahawks, the Giants.
All big spenders last year.
The only spender in the top five last year in free agency
that got less wins was the Minnesota Vikings.
And we know that's because J.J. McCarthy is the worst quarterback in the NFL.
And the Vikings had 14 wins the year before.
Of course, they're not going to plus that.
So, like, you can't complain about the big spending
because big spending got teams a bunch of wins last year
and helped them turn things around.
You can't complain that the Titans went out
and got guys who the coaches know
because everybody does that.
Mike Vrable went out and got Robert Spillane
and Dr. Gibby and Harold Landry
and, you know, but no one complains
that Mike Vrable went and got a bunch of guys
who he coached before.
Nobody had anything to say about that.
But when the Titans do it, it's a problem.
And, oh, they're losers of day one and free agency.
No, you just don't like the Titans.
You don't want them to be good.
You don't want them to win.
You don't want them to turn it around.
And that's why national media is losing their grip on fan bases
because teams don't want to hear that nonsense
that doesn't have anything to do with the actual team and their actual needs.
Oh, the Titans didn't upgrade anything.
Who did they have it?
Cornerback?
Micah Robinson?
Kair Elam?
Marcus Harris?
I'm sorry, but Cordell Flot and Alante
Taylor are upgrades over those guys. Wondale Robinson is an upgrade over Xavier Restrepa
or Bryce Oliver. You know, like, it just, again, it shouldn't matter, it doesn't matter,
but if you're a real Tennessee Titans fan, you know, just like I know, it's still very frustrating.
But with that being said, let's hope the Titans make some moves here because names are going
off the board. I keep checking. See if anything's happening.
Haven't done anything just quite yet.
If they do, I'll be back to break it down.
But for the time being, back to the Alante Taylor film.
And I'll have that ready for you guys later this week.
But that's gonna do it for me today, folks.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland, and this was Locked on Titans.
