Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans MOCK DRAFT: TRADE BACK Options, Double Dip at Need Positions & Depth Additions
Episode Date: April 14, 2024The Tennessee Titans could choose to trade down in the first round of the NFL Draft and if they do picking the right trade will be key, but the Raiders could be a great partner. Olu Fashanu would be a... prime target if a move is made. Also, the Titans need help at wide receiver and pass rush which leads to a double dip at those positions in the mid rounds. Finally, the Titans need to add depth at some underserved positions on Day 3. Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel:https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitans TicTacTitans Merchandise: https://dixons-dream.square.site/shop/tictactitans-gear/C3AAPNWXSXA6SBYG3USV2I7R?page=1&limit=30&sort_by=category_order&sort_order=asc Follow Tyler on Twitter @TicTacTitans Follow the show on Facebook @LockedOnTitansPod Subscribe to the Locked On Titans YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/c/LockedOnTitans/videos Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Monopoly GO!Get in the game and join your friends. If the Tennessee Titans trade down in the first round, I'll show you what the trade
and the pick should look like on today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.

We're doing a seven-round mock draft, and I know you all have waited,
but we are going to talk about what it would look like
if the Tennessee Titans trade down in the first round.
I'm going to go over the trade that they could make,
who they should pick, and then go through
the rest of the picks the rest of the way.
And the Tennessee Titans made a trade for an offensive tackle.
I'll talk about that when we get to that pick that they traded.
So, so much to get into on a seven-round mock draft edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
It's Mock Draft Monday.
Before I get into it, thank you for making the Locked on Titans podcast
your first listen each and every day.
Remember, Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year round,
always for free.
Make sure you get subscribed, stay subscribed.
It's your team every day.
Starting with that trade.
So the Tennessee Titans have the seventh pick,
and you look at who could be a team that could be interested in a trade.
Number one, you got to think about the Minnesota Vikings.
Obviously, they're angling up to get a quarterback.
You also have to think about the Denver Broncos who need a quarterback.
And then right behind them, the Oakland Raiders.
Oakland Raiders.
The Las Vegas Raiders.
They'll always be Oakland to me, okay?
The Las Vegas Raiders need a quarterback as well.
So those are
the three spots that I think really make sense. You could even maybe add in the Saints at number
14, but the Saints would be moving up to get an offensive tackle. And for a team like the Tennessee
Titans, who needs an offensive tackle, I think that would be a dangerous business to let them
come up and potentially get like Joe Ault if he's still on the board. But in this mock draft for the Tennessee Titans,
we saw quarterback, quarterback, quarterback.
And then we saw Marvin Harrison Jr. at four,
Malik neighbor or Joe Alt at five,
and Malik neighbors at six.
So the Tennessee Titans have the option here
of JC Latham, Olu Fashinu, Roma Dunzey.
And I have been on record, I have been on record saying
I think the right thing to do there would be to take Roma Dunzey.
That's what I would want the Tennessee Titans to do.
But at that point, according to a recent rumor from Matt Miller from ESPN,
if Joel isn't on the board, the Titans could then look to trade down.
And if they do, I think the best deal that they could make,
some people would say 11 for 23.
I don't think Minnesota would offer 11 for 23 at that point.
And they don't have any picks kind of in the mid rounds.
Denver doesn't have a lot of picks to work with either.
So there aren't really good combinations there for the Tennessee Titans to get
picks, but a team that does have a lot of good picks is the Las Vegas Raiders at number 13.
So the trade that I have the Tennessee Titans taking here,
and got to give a shout out to Teron Davenport from ESPN, Tennessee Titans beat writer.
Consider Teron a friend, but he threw out this trade, and I think it does make sense.
The Tennessee Titans give up pick number 7 and pick number 106
for pick 13, 44, and 77.
So look, you lose your fourth round pick
and you give up number 7.
You drop back six places,
but you add number 44,
you add number 77
to go along with pick number 38.
So now you have four picks in the top 100
instead of only two picks in the top 100.
And this draft class,
and this is a thing that's going to be something that's discussed
throughout the next few years with the NFL draft.
But basically, because of NIL, name, image, and likeness,
and college players getting more money in college,
some of these guys who are juniors who would come out before
and would stock pick 100 to pick 200,
those guys don't come out anymore because they're making money in college
probably more than they're going to make in the NFL.
So it's important to stock up on those top 100 picks
and a draft class that's really good at wide receiver
and really good at offensive tackle.
It makes a ton of sense for the Titans.
So again, pick number seven and pick number 106 for the Titans
going to the Raiders for pick 13, pick number 44, and pick number 77.
The Raiders come up and they draft J.J. McCarthy from the Michigan Wolverines.
Now, after that, that would leave the Tennessee Titans
with the 13th pick.
And we saw Talisa Fawanga come off the board.
We saw Quinion Mitchell come off the board.
There were a lot of people that came off the board
in that time frame.
But when you get to pick 13 for the Titans,
I still had the option of Olu Fashinu,
of J.C. Latham, Armarius Mims.
So I have any of those three offensive linemen.
And honestly, I would have Latham and Fashinu over Fuanga at this point
as we get closer to the draft.
That's where I've landed at here is Fashinu number two, Latham number three,
and then Mims at number five. Honestly, I would have
Fuanga at number four. So that's where I finished my
rankings on these guys and they were all available. You can even
look at Ed Rusher, Jared Verse, Leitham was
available as well. But for me, I kept it
to my board. I know I got high on JC Leitham last week,
kept watching the film, kept changing my mind and I have finished.
I'm going to take Olu Fashinu for the Tennessee Titans, the offensive tackle out of Penn State, 6'6",
315 pounds, and if you watched my offensive tackle film breakdown for the Tic Tac Titans film channel,
Fashinu just has the most incredible feet. Like, the way that he moves his feet and how nimble he
is and how agile he is,
how great of a pass protector he is. He does have small hands. He also needs to work on his technique with his hands. Doesn't have that strong punch, but a guy with that sort of athleticism,
that sort of feat, you have Bill Callahan work with him. He can still add strength and add power.
Some people think that Fashtanu is a guy who could be like a Laramie Tunsil.
That would be a high-end, a high-end comparison for Fashenu.
So I took that trade down with only Roma Dunze on the board,
just so we can mock it.
Obviously, I don't want the Titans to trade down,
but I know you guys wanted to see how this trade would work out.
And honestly, I understand the appeal
because you get a really good draft class here.
But it starts with Olu Fashinu.
You get a guy who is considered offensive tackle one by some people,
was considered OT one at this point in time last year
when you thought about the draft class coming up
and through times throughout the season.
So getting Fashinu at 13 while picking up pick 44,
picking up pick 77,
I think that would be a very good haul for the Tennessee Titans,
even if they have to give up pick 106.
But what comes next?
It's time to add some playmakers and double down
at two major positions of need for the Tennessee Titans.
We're going to get into what I do with the rest of the draft picks.
Before we do, though,

Titans fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
It is a mock draft Monday.
And finally, you all have been asking, so I had to give the people what they want,
a trade-down mock draft for the Tennessee Titans. We took Olufashinu with the 13th pick, making a trade with the Raiders
to get a couple more picks on day two.
Before I continue this mockock Draft Monday,
I do want to let you guys know that the Locked On Mock Draft Live
is coming on April 17th at 7 p.m. Eastern.
It's going to be streaming on Locked On Sports Today,
the 24-7 streaming channel on YouTube,
or the free Fire TV channels app.
So basically, every Locked On host for each of the locked on podcast,
me for locked on Titans,
make their pick for their team.
So I get to make the selection for the Tennessee Titans at pick number seven,
or maybe I trade down.
You never know,
but it's April 17th,
7 PM Eastern.
You're going to hear who all of the locked on experts picks.
It's it's what it is.
My favorite thing that I do here at Locked On
is do the Locked On NFL Mock Draft.
Again, April 17th, 7 p.m. Eastern on Locked On Sports Today,
the 24-7 streaming channel that's here on YouTube
and the free Amazon Fire TV channels app.
But we took Oluf Ashanu, and then we got the pick number 38,
and I went straight at the Titans' next biggest position of need,
and that was pass rush.
And I went with Darius Robinson, the edge rusher out of Missouri,
but I don't like calling him an edge rusher.
He is a defensive lineman, and Robinson actually accepted an invite to go to the NFL draft.
So, sounds like there's a very good chance he goes in the first round.
So, I couldn't pass on Robinson being available at number 38 for the Titans. Again, defensive lineman out of Missouri, six foot five,
285 pounds. He has incredible length, a great frame. I mean, he has the perfect body look and
body size forward pass rusher in the NFL. He's got a great bull rush, great power. He is a power
player without a doubt. Incredibly versatile too. He is a power player without a doubt.
Incredibly versatile too.
He could play anywhere from the nose tackle all the way to a seven technique.
Like he is, I hate to make this comparison,
but he does remind you a bit of Danico Autry.
He does.
He would be a great replacement for Danico Autry
because he's a guy who could play on the inside and rush on the inside.
He can be a power edge rusher on the outside, set a wall, all that.
He does need to get better in run defense.
There are some missed tackles, and he doesn't have great bend.
He had very bad testing numbers.
You want to talk about testing, like the three cone, the short shuttle,
the 40-yard dash, all that stuff.
He is not going to be a guy who wins with speed or bend,
like Harold Landry. He's not going to win like that. wins with speed or bend, you know, like Harold Landry.
He's not going to win like that.
He is a guy with great power, great size, great length.
Needs to work on his get-off, getting a good first step
off the line of scrimmage again.
The run defense does need to improve,
but he plays with violence.
He plays with power.
He's willing to play in the run game.
It's, you know, it's not like a slack-off.
And, man, does he have advanced pass rush moves. He's got to swim. He's got to chop. He's got to swipe. He's, you know, it's not like a slack off and man, does he have advanced pass rush moves.
He's got a swim. He's got a chop. He's got a swipe. He's got a rip move. Like he is a polished
pack. That's why I compare him to Danico Autry. And you see a lot of, a lot of people comparing
him to Danico Autry because he can play inside, play outside. He's not a speed guy. He's more of
a power guy with a big body and a big frame, but he's got polished pass rush moves.
And I think in the Titans new defense, we're going to see the Titans crowd the line of scrimmage
and they're going to fake a couple of guys come in, might blitz a linebacker, might drop an edge
rusher, might blitz a slot cornerback, might drop a defensive lineman. And in those scenarios,
the whole idea is you're creating one-on-one matchups
because the offensive line doesn't know where to slide.
You don't know if they need to slide left.
You don't know if they need to slide right.
Like, you're getting one-on-one matchups.
So you need to have guys who can win one-on-one matchups.
And that's why in this mock draft, I focused on players
who had polished pass rush moves because they're going to get one-on-one,
and you've got to be able to win that.
So 38, I went with Darius Robinson,
the edge out of Missouri.
Doubt he even makes it to 38 in the real NFL draft,
but if he's there, the Titans will snatch him up.
They've had interest in him.
The next guy I took when I got to pick number 44,
remember the trade we made with the Raiders,
went from seven to 13, got 44 and 77,
gave up 106 as well, but I got Olu Fashinu, 13, Darius Robinson, 38, and then I went with Ricky
Pearsall, who I've kind of fallen in love with after
watching the film. Really dove into wide receivers
at the end of last week and was just so, so impressed
with Ricky Pearsall. So, wide receiver out of Florida, and was just so, so impressed with Ricky Pearsall.
So wide receiver out of Florida, six foot tall, 190 pounds.
He's bigger than you think he is based on his style of play.
I had other options, you know, like could have went Chris Braswell,
another edge rusher who's more of an outside linebacker.
I thought about it.
I really did.
Kingsley Suomotai, the offensive lineman out of BYU, but I don't think he's a great fit for the Titans after watching the tape.
Roman Wilson was an option, but I'll tell you,
watching Roman Wilson's tape, I wouldn't take him in the second round.
He's a third-round player to me after watching on film.
Jonah Ellis was an option that I considered.
Keon Coleman, Xavier Leguette were available.
But at the end of the day, I did go with Ricky Pearsall.
So like we talked about last week,
the Titans are talking about someone needing to emerge
from the slot position.
And Pearsall is a guy who not only can play in the slot,
he can play a little outside as well.
He reminds me of Adam Thielen.
He's got Adam Thielen, Tyler Boyd, similarities.
So I think he would be a perfect guy who could play in the slot,
could play a little outside if you need.
He's so tough, man.
He makes such physical catches.
He is a great route runner.
One of the top three route runners of all the wide receivers
that I've watched on film so far, the guys we went over
in the wide receiver Locked on Titans draft preview episode
from earlier last week, my everydayers will remember that one.
I went 40 minutes, so that was for you guys.
But Ricky Pearsall, man, I've just fallen in love with him.
I think he's a perfect fit.
He is an older player.
He's 23 years old, but I think coming in right away and being able to help
because he's already in his man body, I think that'll be critical for the
Titans who clearly are trying to win now.
So I went with Pearsall at 44.
At 77,
I couldn't help myself again.
Another guy that I've really fallen in love with
in the draft process
that I think would just be so excellent.
So we hit offensive tackle
and we have our starting left tackle.
All right.
We hit defensive line.
We have another pass rusher ready to help
take over the Danico Autry role.
So now we have Key. We have Robinson, we have Simmons,
we have Day, we have Landry.
That's a pretty good fivesome up front, okay?
With Robinson in the Autry role, Simmons in the three tech,
Day can play the nose tackle, Key and Landry outside.
We're going to hit edge rusher again to get another backup there to go with Weaver.
But I like where we're at right now.
So this is kind of a luxury pick at 77. And honestly, I could have went Austin Booker and got more D-line help. Blake
Fisher got more offensive tackle help. Jeremiah Trotter, Cam Kitchens on defense, I considered,
but I had to go with Javon Baker. Look, guys, you have to remember, you have to remember Javon
Baker, the wide receiver out of UCF, DeAndre Hopkins is on
the last year of his contract. Calvin Ridley is going to be 30. DeAndre Hopkins is going to be
32. Like the Titans need to double. And again, I want the Titans to trade Traylon Burks. So imagine
trading Traylon Burks to get back a sixth round pick in this draft. I didn't do that, but just
imagine if they can, they paired that with, I don't trust Traylon Burks. I just spent 10 minutes telling you
why I don't trust Traylon Burks. So if you get Javon Baker and you pair Calvin Ridley with Javon
Baker and Ricky Pearsall, now you have your two outside guys again. And Javon Baker is a physical
guy who can play the X and take over that DeAndre Hopkins role. And look, he's 6'1",
202 pounds.
It's all about focus.
It's all about development.
He has elite traits.
Great athlete.
Great at the catch point.
Physical player.
Good route runner when he's focused as well.
He just needs a little development.
So being the fourth wide receiver for the time,
I would rather spend my time developing Javon Baker
than spend my time developing Traylon Burks.
And that's what it came down to.
Do I want to develop Traylon or do I want to develop Javon Baker?
Give me Javon Baker.
So now you have Javon Baker, Ricky Pearsall, Calvin Ridley,
Andy Andre Hopkins, and when Hopkins moves on after the year,
now you have Javon Baker as a
guy who I think if we look back at a guy who got taken late on day two or day three, who could be
a superstar in the NFL, I think it's Javon Baker. The traits are there. He needs to focus in on his
technique, hone his craft. He's just not focused enough. But you get him there with good coaching and a good environment
in Hopkins and Ridley, setting the
example. Give me
Javon Baker. So, hit Javon
Baker, Ricky Pearsall, wide
receiver there, Darius Robinson
at edge, Olu Fashinu at offensive
tackle. I'm doubling down again
with the Titans' next pick. I'll tell you
who it is. Before I do, though,

It's a seven-round mock draft for the Tennessee Titans.
I've hit a bunch of positions of need so far.
We're going to get into the rest of my picks,
and the Tennessee Titans made a real trade. I'll tell you what happened.
Before I get into it, thank you for making the Locked On Titans podcast your first listen

So, we went with Olu
Fashinu after we traded down from
7-13 and picked up
44-77. Then
at number 38, we took Darius Robinson
as the defensive lineman who can replace Danico Autry.
Then I got greedy and I went back-to-back wide receivers.
Ricky Pearsall at number 44 to be that slot wide receiver for the Titans.
And then Javon Baker, our superstar project
who can be the wide receiver for in year one. Trade Traylon Burks
to Hong Kong. I do not care. He can play for the Guangdong Sharks for all I care. But I'm doubling
down again at a big position of need with the Titans next draft pick. Because remember, we sent
106 to the Raiders as part of that trade. That left 146 as the next pick for the Titans. And I went with edge rusher Gabriel Murphy from UCLA.
6'2", 247 pounds.
And to me, he can be a guy who you develop behind Harold Landry.
He can be Harold Landry's direct backup.
And then you got Rashad Weaver backing up Arden Key.
Murphy is another guy who does not have great height,
does not have incredibly long arms.
All right, he's 6'2", 247, but he is an excellent athlete. Like, he had great testing numbers,
freak athletic testing numbers, and it was kind of surprising because he doesn't really play like
that on the field, but if he has that potential and the Titans can develop him, that would be
huge. He has a great first step burst.
So I kind of took somebody who had some differing traits from Darius Robinson. Robinson is big,
has great length, great power, great strength, you know, and Murphy is a guy who has incredible first step burst, great athleticism, quick hands, super quick hands, which makes sense. He's got
shorter arms, better control.
Here's the one thing, though.
Like I said when I talked about Darius Robinson,
the Titans are going to put guys in one-on-one situations
because the offensive line isn't going to know who to block
because of them crowding the line of scrimmage and showing pressure.
Are they blitzing a linebacker, blitzing a cornerback,
dropping a defensive lineman, dropping an edge rusher?
What are they doing?
And what that's going to do is that's going to create one-on-one matchups and pass rush situations.
And the Titans need guys who can just win one-on-one immediately. All right. And Gabriel
Murphy has really polished pass rush moves. Like he has a pass rush plan. He has good moves. He
has a professional look to him when he's rushing the passer. And he got a lot of one-on-one
situations because teams were sliding over to Latu, who was his teammate on the other edge. has a professional look to him when he's rushing the passer. And he got a lot of one-on-one situations
because teams were sliding over to Latu,
who was his teammate on the other edge.
But he's going to be a rotational pass rusher
with Jeffrey Simmons and now Darius Robinson
and Harold Landry and Arden Key.
Murphy is going to get one-on-one opportunities
when he's on the field as well.
So I just want somebody who I can count on,
who I know is going to be able to win one-on-one and have a polished plan,
and we'll develop him and make sure he gets full control of the athletic
gifts that he showed in his testing.
So really like the addition of Gabriel Murphy at 146 as someone who has a
different profile than Darius Robinson.
So we've double-d dipped on the pass rush.
We've double dipped at wide receiver.
Now it's time to hit some positions where the Titans need some depth.
And at the next pick, which was pick number 182,
I took another guy who I'm just absolutely in love with.
Not because I think he's such an incredible player,
but because of the fit with the Tennessee Titans.
And it's Tip Raymond, the tight end out of Illinois.
And I talked about Tip quite a bit in my tight end preview
that happened on Friday.
My everydayers will remember.
Six foot four, 270 pounds.
Another guy who, he's a freak athlete if you look at his testing.
Like his agility numbers, his 40-yard dash.
Like, I mean, his athleticism does not show up on the tape that he tested,
which to me means potential.
But what I do know about Tip Raymond right now, immediately,
is he is maybe the best blocking tight end in the entire NFL draft.
Like, he is probably that right away.
If you develop him as a receiver,
which he wasn't asked to be a receiver,
he's done not a lot in the receiving game,
but with that athleticism, with that size,
with the ability to block,
he's a guy to me who,
I think, you know, this may sound a bit hyperbolic,
and maybe it is,
but with the athleticism that he displayed with his testing I think, you know, this may sound a bit hyperbolic, and maybe it is,
but with the athleticism that he displayed with his testing and his size at 6'6", 270,
and his ability already to be an impact blocker,
to me, Tip Raymond could be the George Kittle of this draft class.
Like, that's what he could be.
A guy who showed tremendous blocking ability,
but was untapped as a receiver.
I think that Tip Raymond could come in,
and you got Josh Wiley as, you know,
as probably your in-line tight end,
and then Chigakonkwo as your move tight end,
and those two can kind of flip responsibilities.
But Raymond could come in and immediately take over
the Trevon Wesko-Jeff Swain role
with way more upside as a receiver at tight end.
So I love the pick of Tip Raymond there.
It makes a ton of sense for me.
You could have gone defensive line like Jordan Jefferson from LSU
or some running backs and linebackers,
but I thought that Raymond was the best value there.
And then with my next pick, well, let's say this,
because the Titans traded pick number 227 on Friday
for Leroy Watson, offensive tackle from the Cleveland Browns.
He went to UTSA in college,
was a tight end, converted to offensive tackle for the NFL.
He's 6'6", 6'5", 313 pounds,
so put on a bunch of good weight.
He was undrafted in 2022,
spent time on the 49ers practice squad, which is how
Rankar Thon knows him. And then in 2023, he got taken by the Cleveland Browns at the end
of the year and got put on their active roster. So now you have the Bill Callahan connection.
So Rankar Thon knows about him. Bill Callahan worked with him. They're bringing in Leroy
Watson. He's going to be a development offensive tackle.
He's got great athleticism, but just really needs technique work. He played 60 snaps on offense last year for the Browns, gave up zero sacks and zero pressures though.
So clearly Bill Callahan thinks that there's potential with Leroy Watson. I wouldn't count
on him to be a starter by any means. I think that would be asking too much, but I think this could
be the end for like Jalen Duncan, NPF, guys like that.
Because if they're already looking for development tackles,
there's only so many spots on the roster.
So Leroy Watson brought in with pick number 227,
the Titans make a trade with the Cleveland Browns.
Again, I don't think the guy's going to be a starter or anything like that.
But Bill Callahan clearly wants to continue to develop him.
And as a converted tight end,
who's only played offensive tackle for a couple of years,
there is potential there.
So it'll be interesting to watch.
But my last two actual draft picks, 242 and 252,
I went with some depth on defense.
And I just love Trevin Wallace, the linebacker from Kentucky.
To me, he's exactly what the Tennessee Titans are looking for at linebacker.
He's got Kenneth Murray kind of traits.
He's got great size and of traits. He's got
great size and length at six foot one, 230 pounds, great athleticism, first step quickness. He's just
undisciplined. He just needs to really work on the mental aspects of the game, reading coverage,
reading in the backfield. He's overaggressive. He gets caught going downhill. He's really faked out
by different fakes in the backfield and misdirection. So he's
a guy who just needs to develop the mental aspect and his awareness, but he's got freakish athleticism
and size. I think that's a great thing for the Titans to bet on. And then my final pick was Josh
Proctor, the safety out of Ohio State. Six foot two, 200 pounds, ran a 4.540 yard dash. Good speed,
good size, good length. He just doesn't have great coverage ability.
He's not going to be able to cover people one-on-one.
You don't want him back deep.
It's like a deep free safety.
He is like a, think about a Dane Cruikshank role
where you can play one-on-one against tight ends or running backs
and dime when you have three safeties out on the field in passing situations.
He's going to be very valuable on special teams as a gunner and a coverage guy.
That's going to be a big part of what he does. And then maybe you develop him into a matchup
safety who are used more often, but I think as a seventh round pick and pick 252, good to bring in
a guy like Josh Proctor, who has good football character as a super hard worker. And again,
Brian Callahan talked about how the Bengals really brought in guys with that first draft class under
Zach Taylor that would help set the culture.
And I think when you get a guy like Darius Robinson and Ricky Pearsall
and Tip Raymond and Josh Proctor to go along with Levis and the veterans,
I think those are guys who can set the culture for the Titans.
So that's what a trade-down draft will look like for the Tennessee Titans.
You get Olu Fashinu at 13, Darius Robinson at 38,
Ricky Pearsall at 44, Javon Baker at 77, Gabriel Murphy at 146, Tip Raymond 182, Trevin Wallace 242,
Josh Proctor 252. Pro Football Focus's mock draft simulator where I did this gave me an A-. You add
in Leroy Watson as a development offensive tackle
and I think you double dip at tackle.
You double dip at wide receiver.
You double dip at edge rusher
and pass rush. You get tight end linebacker
and safety. I think that's a really, really
good class. Let me know how you would rate that class
down below, but that is
going to do it for me today, folks.
As always, I am your host
