Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans MOST UNDERRATED NFL Draft NEED is Linebacker & Best Fits for Robert Saleh Specialty
Episode Date: April 9, 2026The Tennessee Titans have big needs at a number of places, but one that isn't discussed often is linebacker. Part of that is the resources already given to the defense and Cedric Gray's emergence, but... the Titans still have a hole at the other starting spot and need a long-term solution. That means linebacker may be an option on Day 2 of the NFL Draft. If that is the case, Titans fans need to get familiar with names like Jake Golday, Anthony Hill, Jacob Rodriguez and Kyle Louis. If the Titans do wait until Day 3 for a linebacker addition, odds are it'll be a development player that will not start right away, which is fine too and the preferred outcome. The Tennessee Titans' most underrated need going into the NFL draft might be at linebacker,
and you can bet Robert Sala is going to draft himself one.
Who might it be?
We'll discuss the options on today's edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked on Podcast network,
your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast.
I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans on today's show.
We got to talk about the linebacker position in the NFL draft.
Again, we are continuing the 2026 Locked-on Titans NFL draft preview series.
We've gone position by position through the offense.
We did edge rushers.
We get into linebackers tomorrow.
We look at the secondary and you'll be ready to go with a little less than two weeks before the NFL draft kicks off.
Next week on the show, we are going to do.
do mock drafts all week long.
We're going to be looking at combinations of players that you could put together with the
Titans first three picks.
I'm going to have it interactive where you guys tell me which draft you think is the
winner and then we'll narrow it down to different players at the start, the best
combinations and which ultimately is the best trio start for the Titans.
Can't wait to do all that.
Again, Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year round, always for free.
Make sure that you get subscribed, stay subscribed.
It's your team every day.
Speaking of every day,
shout out to my everydayers out there.
Tune in Monday through Friday.
Couldn't do it without you guys.
If you aren't an everydayer,
you need to be one.
Make sure you stay locked in
with the number one Tennessee Titans podcast
in the world locked on Titans.
But with all that being said,
again, the linebacker position.
I talked about Sunny Stiles
on the bonus episode earlier today.
I don't think that it would be
insane, not because I agree with it, but because I think it's more likely than people want to
admit that Sunny Stiles could be the pick for the Tennessee Titans at number four.
Part of that discussion, part of the reason that I think that Sunny Stiles is an option for
the Tennessee Titans is because we are underrating how badly the Tennessee Titans want to
upgrade linebacker. We are underrating how big of a need the linebacker position is.
Again, this is a bigger conversation about the layout of the linebacker.
linebacker spot. You have Cedric Gray as you're starting Will linebacker run and chase.
Downhill physical linebacker needs to get better in coverage but showed an incredible,
incredible leap in play from his rookie season where he was banged up a little bit to last
year. Cedric Gray, excellent player, but a Will linebacker who again is a chase and run type guy,
get downhill, blitz, be physical, not the best guy in coverage right now. You look at the Sam linebacker
spot, which is going to be incorporated into Robert Salah's defense. You're going to have a guy like
Muhammad Diabani, who the Titans just signed as a free agent. Sam linebacker is kind of an edge
stack linebacker hybrid role. You could be on the line of scrimmage next to a defensive
end. You could be off the line of scrimmage in a traditional linebacker alignment. You could be
a little bit overhang if there's a slot wide receiver and you're in base personnel. That's the
Sam linebacker spot. So you kind of need a linebacker.
edge hybrid who can do all of that.
I don't see Cedric Gray in that role.
Maybe James Williams could potentially do that role,
but that's not what Cody Barton's going to do either.
Cody Barton right now is you're starting Mike linebacker.
You're a traditional middle linebacker.
That's what Cody Barton did last year.
That's what he's been throughout his career.
That's what he has slated to be right now.
And if you think that Robert Sala wants to go into the season
with Cody Barton in the poll,
position, I'm the starting middle linebacker for this team, then you're crazy, in my opinion.
And that's really what I've come to terms with over the last couple of weeks, over the last
couple of days as I've really sat down and looked at the roster, the depth in the draft,
and, you know, make my final reports on every player.
I have a hard time believing that they're just going to have Cody Barton,
and then they're going to bring in a sixth round pick to compete with him.
Like, the Titans, very likely will take a linebacker higher than I'm.
want them to take one.
That's really what it comes down to because I'll be honest with you.
We're going to get into these names.
I'm not as high on this linebacker class as everybody else seems to be.
All the linebackers that you guys tell me in the comments
when you take a linebacker on day two, this and that,
I'm never happy with it.
I don't like any of these linebackers as much as other people seem to like.
And that includes the guys at the top.
I mean, Sonny Stiles is by far and away the best linebacker prospect
and one of the best linebacker prospects that we've seen in the last 10 years.
The Titans could take him at 4, but I don't think that's the smart move.
Take Jeremiah Love, take Carnell Tate, take somebody who helps Cam Ward
if the edge rushers that you want are off the board.
I don't want Sonny Stiles at number 4, even though I admit he is an excellent linebacker prospect,
elite linebacker prospect, even you could say.
But after that, the next two linebackers that everybody loves,
I would not take them at 35.
It's Jacob Rodriguez and C.J. Allen.
Rodriguez out of Texas Tech.
Man, they had a loaded defense.
Think of all the different players they have
that are going to get drafted off their defense.
Loaded, man.
6 foot 1, 231, 31 and a quarter inch arms.
He's 23.6 years old.
He could play Mike linebacker.
He could play Will linebacker if he needed to.
He is an instinctive athletic playmaker,
but he's got limited size
and his length shows up on tape.
He's not as good at shed in blocks.
Now he is a playmaker.
Interceptions, force and fumbles,
getting to the ball.
He is a playmaker.
And that instinctive athletic playmaking ability
will probably lead to a good career.
But what it comes down to is
it's like the running back conversation.
When I talked about running back,
I said, take Jeremiah Love at number,
4 if you want to take Jeremiah Love at number 4. But if you don't take Jeremiah Love at number 4,
don't take a running back until day 3. Don't take a running back on day 2 in the second or third
round. Listen, I like Mike Washington, Emmett Johnson, Judarian Price, Jonah Coleman, Dem and
Claiborne, I like these guys. They're good running backs. But they're not good enough to use a day 2
pick on when you have Tony Pollard and Tadge Spears. Running back isn't a massive need.
And part of that is the need and part of that is the other needs that you have and part of that
is the talent at the position. I don't like the talent at the linebacker position that much.
The Titans have way bigger other needs. Like edge, like cornerback, like wide receiver,
like interior offensive line. So what the Titans think,
what I think, again, are opposed.
I think that the Titans think that they need a linebacker.
I explained that already.
They can't go into the season with Cody Barton starting.
I think that's what they think.
I don't agree with that.
And it's not because I like Cody Barton,
but there are just so many other needs that I would want to hit before linebacker.
I can't take Jacob Rodriguez at pick number 35.
C.J. Allen, 6 foot, 2.30.
31 and a half inch arms, 21 years old.
He is a standard Mike linebacker.
Strong, reliable, downhill, physical linebacker.
Great character as well.
But he's not good in coverage.
He's smaller.
You know, 230's good size, but 6 foot.
31.5 inch arms, not the greatest length.
That, to me, slightly undersized,
strong downhill linebacker with good character.
That's Cedric Gray.
I want a coverage guy with length
next to Cedric Gray
which is why again I think
Sunny Stuyos could be the picket for
but why I would not take a linebacker at 35
and any of the other linebackers
there's no way I'm taking them at 35
not a chance
the next group
the next group I would be
I would be more okay with taking linebacker
at 66
than I would 35
if they took a linebacker at 66
I would be like, okay, I guess I understand.
But it better be from this group of guys
that I'm about to go over with you in a second.
Like, you can't take any of these guys.
I would not take Jacob Rodriguez or C.J. Allen at 35.
They're not going to be there at 66.
But the rest of these guys, they may be there at 66.
And I still wouldn't want to take linebacker there,
but I would at least understand.
And that's the group that we probably really need to pay the most attention to when it comes to the draft and linebackers.

Let's continue today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast.
Again, we're looking at the linebackers in the NFL draft.
Breaking down the draft class, we talked about the top three.
Sunny Stiles could be an option at number four.
I would not take Jacob Rodriguez or C.J. Allen in the first two rounds.
Now we get into guys who I think could be an option for the Titans in round three.
Again, maybe the Titans would take one of these guys at 35 if I have.
totally, totally underestimated their want for a linebacker.
But I think 66 could be a sweet spot if they actually do want to take one.
Again, we hit Stiles, Rodriguez, and Allen.
But the next guy on my list is Jake Golday from Cincinnati.
He is 6 foot 4, 240 pounds, 31.8 inch arms.
Obviously, he's long, good size.
4.6 240 yard dash, that's cooking.
Had a 39 inch vertical.
So an explosive athlete as well, 22.9 years old, almost 23.
Now, he is more of a Sam or a Mike linebacker.
You could make him a Mike linebacker if you wanted,
but I think Sam responsibilities are probably the best for Jake Gold Day going forward.
Again, he's lean and he's long,
and he has pass rush upside.
So he used to be a defensive end,
and then he transferred to Cincinnati from a lower level of college football,
and they made him into a Mike linebacker.
And then from a Mike linebacker,
he kind of settled into a versatile role,
which is probably what he should do going forward.
He can be an issue in coverage.
He's more of a linear athlete,
dropping back into coverage, good swivel hips, all of that,
not really his game.
Not the strongest guy either.
Again, he's a lean 6 foot 4 240.
Long, stretched out.
I'm not as high on Jake Gold Day as a lot of you guys.
because I don't know that I see a great fit.
Sam linebacker, how important is that going to be within the scheme
compared to a defensive end or just a regular stand-up linebacker?
Golda's not, in my opinion, a pure middle linebacker
who can be that Cody Barton replacement and drop back into coverage
and all of that.
Like, that's not who he is.
He is a downhill going forward, long athlete who can set the edge
and have a little bit of pass rush pop.
I just don't know what he is.
And I don't know if he's good enough in coverage
or good enough in pass rush to be able to do both.
So I'm out on Jake Gold Day.
I'm not, he might be a good player,
but he's not a fit for the Titans.
You know what I mean?
I don't see that as a clean fit.
Now, I'll tell you this.
I don't have rationale for what I'm about to say to you.
I love Anthony Hill out of Texas.
I love him.
At 66, give me him.
I'll take it.
I don't even want linebacker at 66,
but if they got Anthony Hill, I'm in.
He just, to me, he oozes superstar potential
and Robert Sala can get the best out of him.
6'2, 240 pounds, 32.3-inch arms,
rent a 4-5-40,
so the longest arms of anybody but Sonny Stiles,
the best 40 time of anybody so far,
except Sonny Stiles.
21.2 years old.
Now, right now,
I think he's more of a will linebacker.
And Cedric Gray is a will linebacker,
so how would that mesh together?
But I think over time, he could become a Mike linebacker.
He is long, he is fast, he is physical,
he's a great blitzer.
He can be over-aggressive.
He can be out of control.
He can overrun the play.
He can get too far upfield.
He lacks a little bit of polish at the linebacker position.
But that size,
that length, that explosion, that physicality.
Let's teach this guy technique.
Let's improve the IQ and the ID ability.
Robert Sala can do that.
Again, he is a linebacker savant.
He was a linebacker coach.
If we were playing Madden and you were creating Robert Sala
and the coach had a specialty, it would be linebacker developed.
That is what he does.
So give him a moldable chess piece
like Anthony Hill
and watch it work.
I like Anthony Hill a lot.
I know that, again,
he clashes with Cedric Gray,
he's not the tallest guy,
not the best in coverage,
but man, I can't,
I can't turn all that down.
That is superstar potential in the third round.
And Anthony Hill could go in the second round
because I think people are going to be attracted to that.
Another guy is Missouri's Josiah Trotter,
6 foot 1, 237 pounds, 32 and a quarter inch arms. He's 21 years old.
He is your traditional Mike linebacker.
So I think Josiah Trotter could be a fit for what the Titans want.
Violent downhill linebacker. Not good in coverage.
That's how simple it is.
He's just a violent, physical, downhill linebacker, incredible in the run game.
Some people just love Trotter because he's so reliable in the run game.
maybe that's enough, but again,
I look at coverage ability
with Cedric Gray being more of a downhill physical linebacker,
who's going to be our coverage linebacker
for dime and nickel purposes.
I don't know that Trotter can fill that role.
But if he gets to 101,
all bets are off after that.
I'm not as concerned about that.
Let's just take a good linebacker.
And when we talk about coverage,
the next guy, Kyle Lewis,
there's your coverage linebacker.
He reminds me of, well, not quite.
I don't know if that's quite fair.
I think that might be disrespectful to Kyle Lewis.
But he's a Jayon Brown type.
And I only mean that in role.
Not in play style per se.
Jayon Brown much more of a linebacker than Kyle Lewis,
where Kyle Lewis is more of a slot cornerback, in my opinion.
But 5'11, 220 pounds, by far the smallest guy that we've talked about.
32-inch arms, though, so decent length for a guy that small ran a 4-5, 40-yard. Again, Anthony Hill is 20 pounds heavier, 3 inches taller, with longer arms, and ran a faster 40 time.
And he's a year younger than Kyle Lewis. Like, I'm sorry, all that adds up to something I would take a chance on if I'm a linebacker, Savant. You know what I mean? That's young Hercules.
but Kyle Lewis is undersized.
He's rangy, he's feisty, really good in coverage.
He had an excellent, excellent senior bowl in the one-on-one coverage drills.
It was just incredible.
But he's just so small, man.
He's just so small.
I don't think that he's a real linebacker at the NFL level.
I think he's a slot cornerback.
I think he's a nickel.
So if the Titans take Kyle Lewis,
In my opinion, it would be to be their nickelback on early downs
and then be like a passing down linebacker next to Cedric Grey.
Or it could be Kyle Lewis and Kevin Winston,
or it could be Kyle Lewis and Amani Hooker.
You know what I mean?
Like I think those are the type of moves that the Titans would be considering
if they take a Kyle Lewis.
I just do not believe that Kyle Lewis is a traditional every down linebacker.
As a Will linebacker, I don't buy it.
I don't buy it.
He is a passing down only.
early down nickel, passing down linebacker.
That is my opinion on Kyle Lewis.
So I don't know if that makes sense for the Titans as early
as some people are acting like Kyle Lewis is going to get taken.
But I think he's going to go day three, in my opinion.
Cashaun Elliott, a guy who I think is a really good fit for the Titans.
Arizona State linebacker, 6-1-2-31-32-inch arms
or in a 45-3-40, 22-year-old.
Oh, sorry, read the wrong line.
6-1, 2-30, 32-inch-arms, 458, 22 years old.
He is a Mike linebacker.
He's a run-game demon.
He's got elite character.
He needs to improve in coverage.
He's not the most athletic guy,
but we're talking about pick 101 at this point.
And I think with his character and how it fits in the Titans culture,
the ability to be just amazing against the run,
we'll see if Robert Sala can improve the coverage a little bit.
but again, we're getting to a point where
these are linebackers that, yeah,
I want a coverage linebacker for the Titans.
That's what I want.
But at this point, this late in the draft,
we just want good players.
Just give me a good player.
That's what really matters.
And I think Kishon Elliott is a very good player.
A lot of you guys like Caleb Elam's Orr
out of TCU,
he's 6-2-230, 31-3 quarter-inch arms.
We're in a 4-47 40-yard dash.
That is blazing. 22.7 years old.
Look, he's well built.
Good frame on him.
Good straight line speed.
As you can see with the 4.4740 yard dash.
That's obvious.
Great character as well.
Elite character guy, hard worker.
But doesn't have the length.
Doesn't have great play recognition.
Like his IQ isn't there for an older player.
Needs to get better at recognizing runs,
recognizing route concepts,
drop it to the right spot over the middle.
I would not take him in the first two days.
That would not be an option for me.
Keo is, again, good straight line, well-built,
all of that, but a guy who doesn't have recognition skills,
not long enough to keep guys off his body,
I got to wait until day three before I take something like that.
Now, here's what I'll tell you.
There are still some guys
at the linebacker spot.
I have like 10 more names on day three
that I think would be great options for the Titans
just to get a good linebacker
that I think could be a good player.

Again, we're breaking down the linebacker group in the NFL draft.

With that being said, though,
a guy who I'm very interested in,
and the Titans had a visit with recently is Justin Jefferson out of Alabama,
6 foot, 223, 31.6 inch arms, 457 on the 40-yard dash.
He is an older prospect at 24 years old, but he is explosive,
he's physical, he's a downhill linebacker,
bit undersized, bit overreactive, gets out of position,
Not great at recognition right now, recognizing runs.
He's not great at dropping back into coverage.
But he's got good character.
He's downhill.
He's an explosive athlete.
And the Titans can get him as good going backwards as he is going forwards.
He could be a really, really solid player.
So I think that's a good day three fit.
Bryce Botcher from Oregon, 6.1, 233, 30.6-inch arms.
That's really short.
4.69.
That's not a great time in the 40.
23.8.
That's old.
you can see where I'm going here.
He's undersized.
He's older.
He doesn't have great length.
But he's tough.
He's fast.
He's physical.
Limited athlete and everything like that.
But I don't think he's as good of a fit as a guy as Justin Jefferson, in my opinion.
Torrine York is another guy out of Texas A&M.
I don't think is a great fit for the Titans.
He's 5'10, 226 pounds.
So basically smaller than Kyle Lewis.
He's got 30-inch arms, 459 in the 40.
You've got to be a lot.
faster than that if you're going to be that small.
He's only 20.8 years old though,
so a younger guy who could be in the NFL for quite some time.
For such a small guy, he is an incredibly physical player.
He has very high IQ.
That helps him defeat some of his measurable deficiencies.
But at the end of the day, he's too small.
He's a limited athlete.
Not good enough in coverage to be a run-first linebacker, in my opinion.
I'm not a big fan of Torreene York as an option for the Titans.
but Harold Perkins
I haven't talked about Harold Perkins in a while
because I've been trying to do other things,
move past because I drafted him in mock drafts
like three in a row to start mock draft season
but Harold Perkins out of LSU
would be just an elite
day three picks six foot
223
31 and a half inch arms
so not the biggest guy by any means
but a 445 40 yard dash
he's only 21.6 years old
he is a freak athlete with great explosion
He's a versatile player who played on the edge, played linebacker.
I think he played some defensive back early in his career.
He doesn't have a lot of power though.
Isn't the strongest guy?
Isn't the biggest guy, obviously.
His feel is just not there.
And I would imagine it's not
because he's been moved around a bunch of different positions.
The coaching in LSU was an absolutely elite for his position.
There are so much potential with Harold Perkins
to be an elite player at the NFL level.
To me, he is a...
discount or Val Rees.
If you want an offball backer with pass rusher upside,
I would go with Harold Perkins much later in the draft.
That would be the move.
Day 3 option.
I think it would be any lead pick for the times I'd be so excited.
A guy who I'm lower on than maybe I should be,
but it's really just a lack of experience.
Is Jimmy Rolder from Michigan?
He's probably going to go way higher than the way that I'm talking about him.
6 foot 2, 238 pounds, 30.5 inch arms.
that's not great length, 22 years old.
He is a traditional Mike linebacker.
I think he could be a really good fit for the Titans,
but again, I don't know exactly where he's going to go.
Great speed, great awareness.
And for a guy who has limited experience to have the awareness that he has,
that's a feather in his cap.
He's got great upside because he just hasn't had a ton of time playing.
He only played for one year at Michigan,
like got opportunities to play for one year at Michigan.
And because of that, he could be a little over-aggressive.
his communication skills.
Like, he's not used to being the Mike linebacker
and lining up his teammates and calling out the plays
and he hasn't been doing that his whole life.
So I think Jimmy Rolder would be a perfect guy to bring in.
He could contribute on special teams right away.
You can develop him into the kind of linebacker.
You need him to be with the talents that he already has,
the speed, the awareness, all of that.
And you could have yourself a very good linebacker,
which is why he's probably going to go late third round,
early fourth round.
But if the Titans took him on day three,
I would be pretty ecstatic.
He's a great fit.
Now, just some other knockoff options here
that I think are sixth and seventh round picks
that the Titans could throw darts at later.
Lander Barton, Cody Barton's little brother,
he's long, he's physical.
Not great awareness or power, though.
Some teams, according to Dane Bruegler,
some teams are looking to move him to tight end.
So if teams are talking about moving a linebacker to tight end,
might not be a physical enough linebacker, in my opinion.
Aden Fisher out of Indiana.
Very interesting player.
Really good athlete, really good Blitzer,
really competitive player.
He's just a smaller guy, not the strongest guy,
but I think he's the type of guy you take on day three
and it makes your locker room better.
Eric Gentry at a USC, interesting player.
He's like 6 foot 6.
Super long, stretched out, good in coverage,
but he's just limited because of how tall he is.
It's just going to be hard to play linebacker
when you're that thin and that tall.
It's just difficult.
Alabama's Deontay Lawson
Another super fast, violent, smart linebacker
But he's got injury concerns
Not the strongest guy
He doesn't he's fast but he doesn't have elite speed
But downhill striker
Physical guy could make a lot of sense for the Titans late
And then the last guy I want to mention is Jaden Dugger
And Dugger is a guy who I have starred
I have Keishon Elliott Harold Perkins
Jimmy Rolder, Jaden Dugger,
Josiah Trotter, Anthony Hill, Sunny Stiles.
Those are my star players who are the best fits,
in my opinion, with what the Titans need.
Jaden Dugger is out of Louisiana Monroe.
He's a long, athletic player,
major upside, needs development with his IQ,
his recognition, needs to put about 10 more pounds of mass on his body,
he's about 240 pounds.
Needs to be a little bit bigger,
but I'm telling you,
you might have a literal freak linebacker.
If anybody, if anybody on this list
is going to end up being Robert Salas
Fred Warner,
it's Jaden Dugger in the 6th or 7th round.
I'm telling you. I'm telling you.
I just believe it.
I believe it.
But with that being said,
who are your favorite linebacker prospects?
Again, looking to get to the secondary
on tomorrow's bonus episodes.
But that's going to do it for me today, folks.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland,
And this was Locked on Titans.
