Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans MUST BE BORING during Summer Break after EXCITING Offseason & PAY PETER SKORONSKI
Episode Date: June 21, 2026The Tennessee Titans enter their summer break on a high note after an incredible offseason capped by a Jeffery Simmons extension. It was one of the most exciting offseasons in team history, but the su...mmer needs to be boring - EXTREMELY BORING - even if it makes it harder for Tyler to do his job! After the Simmons extension though, one thing the Titans could do over the break is pay Peter Skoronski, although it may not come until closer to the fall. Skoronski will get a big-time deal and should as the only reliable offensive lineman the Titans have. Finally, with the dead period of the calendar here, let's take a look at the schedule ahead with training camp, the Bud Adams Bowl, preseason and cut down day ahead. The Tennessee Titans just had one of the most exciting off seasons in franchise history.
But this summer, I want them to be boring.
I'll tell you why on today's edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast network,
your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast.
I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans.
Today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast is brought to you by Fandle.
The biggest stage in world soccer is here.
Let there be goals on Fandle.
Visit fandle.com to get started now on today's show.
We're going to talk about what the Titan summer break needs to be like.
I'm going to tell you what's on the calendar next for the Tennessee Titans.
When do they get into training camp?
When's preseason?
When's cut down day?
We're going to talk about why I think Peter Skoronski needs to be the
the next Tennessee Titan to get a big contract, and I'm going to tell you exactly
how much it should be for. But we're going to start with what I think the Tennessee
Titans overall summer plan needs to be this year, and it needs to be boring. Just be
boring. And this comes off the heels of one of the most exciting all seasons in Tennessee
Titans history. I mean, if we're honest, two years ago with Brian Callahan and with Jerry
Steve and Calvin Ridley.
That all season was pretty exciting.
It didn't turn out.
So it feels differently now,
but that was an exciting all season.
I know there have been all seasons
before I started covering the team.
Way back in the day that fans may remember,
but this all season right here with new coaches,
New jerseys,
new players in free agency with the most money spent in the NFL,
the draft, multiple trades up the board.
A shocking pick at the front.
OTAs with Carnell Tate putting on a show, mandatory minicamp,
with Cam Ward bouncing back and having some highlights.
Like, this has truly been one of the most exciting all seasons
in the history of the franchise with everything going on.
You add in Jeffrey Simmons contract extension as kind of a cherry on top of everything
that's happened.
And it's just been awesome, the positive momentum that this franchise has,
the vibes in the fan base right now,
the excitement and the optimism for what they,
can do coming up. The new stadium on the horizon, there's just so much going on right now.
It has truly been, again, one of the most exciting off seasons in Tennessee Titans history,
maybe the most exciting off season of my time covering the team, I can say. I mean, the team has
been better in previous years. I will say the Julio Jones trade, the hype I felt there going
into that season after a couple of good playoff runs. The hype was pretty high there. I felt the Titans
were true Super Bowl contenders. But with all the newness, it just,
just feels different.
It feels like the beginning of something special for the Titans.
And through all of that excitement, again,
the Titans have delivered for us this all season
with exciting stuff around every single turn.
But now, we need to accept boredom.
Absolute, pure, unequivocal boredom.
I don't want to hear a single thing about the Tennessee Titans
front, not about the Tennessee Titans.
I'm ready to talk Titans with you guys
and talk Titans with me, of course.
But from a news standpoint,
I don't want to see the Titans' name
in Adam Shepter's tweets,
Ian Rappaport, Jordan Schultz,
Jay Glazer, I don't care who it is.
I don't want to see hashtag Titans
are in any report, any article,
any TV segment.
I don't want to hear Stephen A, Skip Bayless,
anybody talk about the Titans,
for six weeks.
Like until the Titans kick off training camp,
I don't want to hear a single piece of national news about them.
Point blank, period.
Like, no drama,
no incidents,
no controversy,
no injuries.
Number one,
anything like that,
anything within that realm,
none of it.
Boring.
I will take the absence of anything good
if it means the absence of anything bad.
I want nothing at all.
Make it hard on me.
I'm a Titans content creator.
The answer I get or the question I get from people most
when they find out that my job is I talk about the Titans.
They say, how do you talk about all year?
What do you talk about?
Like, you know, especially this time of year
when it's the dead of summer.
This is the most dead five to six weeks.
weeks of the Tennessee of the NFL calendar, period.
The NFL is a 12-month sport, and I am wholly thankful for it.
But this five-week period here between the end of mandatory mini-camp
to the start of training camp is the dead zone,
and that's what I wanted to be.
Make it hard on me.
Make me hurt.
I hope the Titans have me racking my brain going on Google and searching for
I hope I have to ask advice from my other podcast, friends.
what are you talking about?
I hope it's endlessly difficult on me
over the next five weeks
because that means again,
no drama,
no incidents,
no controversy,
and no injuries.
That's what matters most to me right now.
So it's been, again,
an incredible off-season.
But be boring.
And Robert Sala,
Robert Sala talked about this break
and I can say
that I want to,
the Titans to be boring. I don't want to hear stories and news or anything like that about
the Titans. I just want to talk about the team, the football, how the roster sets up. I don't want
anything new to discuss. We'll talk about what we know right now and moving forward. But
for the players, they got to get to work. This can't be the summer break. They're not a
teacher taking summer break. It's time to go. And I want to read what Robert Sala had to say.
because I thought it was great.
He said for him personally,
I'll be taking a lot of naps on the beach, hopefully with the kids,
if they let me and golfing.
My kind of guy right there, naps and golfing.
I'm all about that, Robert Sala.
But he said, the next 40 days are critical.
He said, and I feel like so many players lose their season
before it ever starts because of the way they handle these next 40 days.
It's not a vacation.
They've got to get ready to play ball.
We kind of trick it by pretending the four-day acclamation period
will help them kind of get a runway to get into the season.
There is no runway.
When you get here, we've got to go.
And if you're not prepared to play,
you're going to get hurt, and that's league-wide.
We could put bubble wrap on these guys and delay the inevitable,
which leads to injuries week one through week five during the season.
But the important thing is that our players attack the heck out of the next 40 days,
get ready to play and have an amazing training camp.
He talked about the time.
Guys, think once training camp gets here and again,
we'll go over what's next on the Titan schedule at the end of the show
as we kind of close out this big picture summer discussion.
But he said this.
It's all conditioning level.
Our strength group put together a great program for them over the next 40 days
to get them ready for that first day of practice.
And then from there, the acclamation, the build up will continue to rise.
But a lot of soft tissue injuries come because they're not prepared for the load that they're going to get hit with.
And I get it.
You're going to go out.
You're going to enjoy your vacation.
You're going to go to the beach.
You're going to have some drinks and all that stuff.
But you've got to be mindful about what you're doing to your body
and how you're preparing yourself to play because one injury,
you set yourself back two weeks.
And two weeks is everything, Robert Salas, says this right here again.
take our situation in our schedule.
A week and a half into camp,
we're having a scrimmage in the stadium.
Two weeks from Report Day,
we are in San Francisco practicing and we're playing a game.
So you've got two weeks.
A four-day acclamation period is not covering that.
You've got to be able to prepare in a way
that has you ready from day one.
And so, like I said,
we got a great program that we put together for the guys to follow
and they're always welcome to do more than what's being asked.
That's a long quote, but I love every single second of
and especially how he says a week and a half from training camp,
we got a scrimmage.
Two weeks.
We're in San Francisco like the schedule is going to hit quickly.
You cannot, in the four-day acclamation period that he's talking about,
is at the beginning of training camp.
They do kind of a four-day ramp up where they do some practices without pads.
they do conditioning tests, they do walkthroughs,
you know, half-speed bird dog with the whistle.
Like, they get guys ready to go, but like Sala said,
that four days right there,
if you didn't get your body right during the 40 days before that,
four days isn't going to fix 40 days.
That's just not how it works in life.
So, I want the Titans to be boring
after the exciting all season,
but the players can't necessarily have a boring
40 days themselves. They're a professional athlete, and that's a full round or full year, all-year
round job. So let's hope that the Titans take what Robert Salas saying very, very seriously.
But again, be boring Titans. Make it hard on me. That's what I want. That's what we need
heading into training camp. But with that being said, the only thing that could happen
that I would be happy about newswise is for Peter Skoransky to get
his big contract because he's the next guy
who the Titans need to pay and I'll tell you what
they need to pay him as well.
Do you want to let you know that today's episode
is brought to you by fan
dual sportsbook
the biggest stage in world soccer is here.
Every match feels like it has the potential
for a memorable moment.
One goal can completely change
the energy of the game, shift
the momentum and alter
the outcome in an instant. That's what makes
tournament soccer so exciting
from the opening whistle to the final kick.
Now, Fandle was giving fans another reason to stay locked in
to every match with every goal pays.
Bet on a match and get bonus bets for every goal scored in that match.
More goals means more bonus bets.
All you have to do is turn on your token.
I know I'm going to be turning mine on for the next United States match, man.
The USA run so far with the national team has been absolutely incredible.
their next game is coming up later on this week.
I believe it's on Thursday,
so I know that I'm going to have my token turned on by then
so I can capitalize on all the goals
that get scored in that one, hopefully a lot for the USA team.
But from the opening whistle to the final kick,
let there be goals on Fandall. Visit fandle.com right now to get started.
And let's continue today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast again.
We're kind of doing a big picture look at the summer here.
I want the Tennessee Titans to be boring over the next 40 days,
whatever it happens to be.
But the one piece of news that I would accept,
the one piece of news that I would find,
okay, is Peter Skoronsky getting his extension?
Because now that Jeffrey Simmons extension is done,
the next extension that needs to get done for the Titans
that we've discussed throughout this all season,
I've told you the entire time, it's going to be Jeff,
it's going to be Pete.
Those are the guys who need to get paid,
and the Titans have gobs of money to do it.
But regardless, Pete is the guy who's next after the Simmons extension.
And we talked about the Jeffrey Simmons extension on the bonus episode.
Absolutely deserved.
On the field, off the field, everything that we could ever ask for.
Leader in the locker room, excellent player.
Good deal as well at only 35 million per.
That's going to get jumped by Jalen Carter from the Eagles eventually most likely.
So Simmons was a good deal, smart move, deserved, got the drama out of the way as well.
That goes to the boring thing.
We don't have to hear Jeffrey Simmons is going to be a hold-in during training camp
as he wants new guaranteed money on his deal.
We don't got to worry about all that.
So let's get that done with Pete too.
I know that Pete has the fifth year option, which the Titans picked up.
So technically he's good this year and good next year on a contract.
but that's not how the Titans
want to operate.
And they have the money
where they don't have to delay
and push things out.
They could pay Peter Skoronsky
right now and get it over with.
They don't need to play this game.
And what would happen is
Pete's final year of his rookie deal contract
would still happen this year.
So if they gave Peter Skoronsky
an extension,
it would not make him more expensive
salary cap-wise this year.
It wouldn't affect the Titans at all.
All right?
the extension for Peter Skronsky would kick in next year,
which is year five for Pete.
That's when his number would go up.
But it wouldn't hurt the Titans this year to get it done.
So let's get it done.
Now, I will tell you this.
I think that Pete's contract would get done closer to the regular season.
It would be after training camp right before the year,
get the new money done.
That's a window where you see after cuts,
when teams have their roster settled, they know what their salary cap picture looks like for sure, all of that.
You see the first week of the NFL season, a lot of deals happen to get done.
And I think that Pete will get his extension before the season,
but it'll be later in the summer close to after training camp.
And he should get one.
He is incredible and past protection, great pass protection guard.
great hands in terms of his placement and his technique,
really smart with his landing marks, knows what to do.
Great feet. Pete has incredible feet.
The way he's able to recover, the quickness of his feet, moving around.
He's a great athlete for an interior offensive lineman,
just a smooth mover.
Really good movement, catching guys at the second level,
getting out on screens, climbing up to linebackers,
executing a combo block with one of his teammates and then getting up to the next level.
Really good at all that stuff.
Now, I would tell you this.
Pete doesn't have the best raw power.
Like Roger Saffel was a more raw, powerful guard to blow somebody out of a hole,
to have great anchor against a bull rush.
Pete is more, I don't want to say, you know, thin,
because Pete is still 320, 330 pounds.
he's a big boy, let's call it what it is.
But Pete doesn't have that natural core power of a guy like,
you know, Roger Saffold or Quentin Nelson, for example,
who's just a little bit thicker than Pete.
But Pete wins in other ways, and he's one of the top five, top 10 at minimum.
If you want to argue with me, then top 10 at minimum.
But I think top five, he's one of the top five guards in the entire NFL.
And right now, Peter Skoronsky,
is the only guard, is the only offensive lineman on the team that you can rely on to be good.
We don't know about J.C. Latham right now.
He's had up and downs both his years, and now he's hurt.
Recovering from an injury during OTAs, mandatory minicamp.
Wasn't out there. He's hurt.
Austin Sloatman has been a career backup.
Cordell Volson has been a career back.
bad player. We know who Dan Moore is. He is a below average starting offensive tackle.
Or I'd say he is average because if you want to say, I say starting. He's a below average
starting offensive tackle. Dan Moore is, you know, probably among starting offensive
tackles somewhere in the, you know, 50 to 66 range. Or how many is there 32 times two
math, 64? I would say he's, you know, 48 to 64.
It's probably where Dan Moore is
among starting offensive tackles.
So that's not good.
That's average, you know,
for all offensive tackles.
Peter Skoransky is the only good
offensive linemen we know the Titans have.
It's the only one we know for certain.
You cannot play with him
when you have nobody to pay.
There's nobody else to pay for a couple of years.
Who's the next guy who's going to get
a big contract extension from the Titans?
after Peter Skoransky.
It would have to be Latham, right?
And are we doing that?
So there's nobody to spend big money on for the Titans
for the next couple of years.
He's the only good offensive linemen you have.
He's a top five guard.
You got to pay him.
You got to get it done.
There's no reason to mess around.
Now, here is why, though,
I do think that it will take a little bit of time.
because it is a new coaching staff and a new system
and a new offensive line coach.
So I think the offensive line coach,
I'm sure that they have a ton of faith in Pete right now.
This could get done immediately.
But maybe Sala, Dable, Bracillo,
I'm going to throw Stocker in there
because I think Luke Stocker is the next offensive coordinator
in my personal opinion. If things go well
and Brian Dable gets a head coaching job,
Luke Stocker's going to be the next O.C. in my opinion.
But all of those guys maybe want to see Pete.
Maybe they just want to see him work in the offense, see how he fits,
see how much, you know, they think he should be paid.
How big of a priority should this be for the titles?
Now, I think Pete will check all those boxes for the new coaches.
I don't think it's going to be a concern at all.
But nonetheless, that might be part of the delay here too.
Now, when we talk about what Pete is going to get paid,
what should the extension look like?
to me, I think we're going to be looking at $21 to $22 million per year.
Now, I was about $3 or $4 million, $3 to $5 million off on Jeffrey Simmons.
I thought he'd get $38 to $40 million per year somewhere in there,
maybe $37.5 and he got $35 million per year.
So maybe I'm a little bit off on Pete.
But you look at Tray Smith from the Chiefs who got $23.5 million.
You look at Tyler Smith from the Cowboys who got $24 million.
Those are the two highest paid per year average annual contracts for guards in the NFL.
Chris Lindstrom is right there from the Falcons with $20 million per year.
I think Pete comes in right in between all that.
I think Pete's at about 21 and a half to $23.5 million is where I would say Pete is.
22 and a half $21, 20 to $22.5 million per year.
I think four years, $88 million with about $45 million guaranteed.
I think that would be a good deal for Peter Scoronty.
That would make sense right there for the type.
Four years, $88 million, $22 million per year.
That's not resetting the guard market.
Linderbaum got 27 a year.
Again, I talked about the Smith boys, Tyler and Trey,
who are at 23 and a half and 24.
So I think Pete comes in just a little bit below that.
$22 million per year.
Again, $40 to $45 million guaranteed.
top five guard contract in the NFL.
He deserves it.
They can afford it.
And that's the only news that I would want to hear from the Titans
during this little summer break.
Now, with that in mind, what comes after the summer break?
What's next on the schedule for the Titans
as we lead up to week one against the New York Jets?
I'm going to tell you right now.
Do want to let you know that today's episode is brought to you by Indeed.

Hands, let's cap off today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast.
Again, we're taking a big picture of you of the summer break for the Tennessee Titans.
I want no drama, no problems.
I'd like to see Peter Skoransky's extension get done.
If the Titans do anything, he deserves it.
But other than that, let's just be boring as we head towards training camp.
And again, let's talk about what's next on the schedule,
what the key dates are for the Titans throughout the rest of the time
until we get to week one against the Jets.
Before we dive in, I want to thank you again for making Locked on Titans,

But with that being said again,
training camp comes around late July.
Will it be July 27th, which is a Monday, July 28th,
which is a Tuesday, July 29th,
which is a Wednesday.
Can't know for certain exactly when the Titans will start to do things.
I think it'll be the 27th on Monday.
All the guys come in, they report.
You get, you know, all the official stuff,
everything you need to know about the training camp schedule, where we're going to go,
the travel, all that different stuff.
Do your weigh-ins, maybe a conditioning test,
make sure everybody's good, hydration, body fat measurements,
blah, blah, blah, you're playing going forward, all that.
And then usually they get out on the field for some walk-through level,
jog-through level practices, install, understand, this is what we're doing.
And then by the beginning of the second week of training camp,
as we get into the first week of August,
pads are coming on.
Probably the end of that first week of training camp
and then into that second week of training camp,
pads are coming on.
And like Robert Sala said in the quote that we looked at,
first segment,
August the 8th,
which is basically two, a week and a half,
into training camp,
the Titans are going to have the Bud Adams Bowl,
the inner squad scrimmage that they have at the actual
stadium. So the Bud Adams Bowl is going to be the 8th of August probably, Saturday.
And then literally, less than a week later, they're going to San Francisco for joint practices
with the 49ers before August 13th is their first preseason game. It's a Thursday.
So they're probably going to have joint practices with the 49ers.
I would say Monday and Tuesday.
And then a break day on Wednesday.
and then the preseason game on Thursday night.
And then they got to come home.
Probably have practice on Sunday, Monday,
and then the Seahawks show up.
And they'll probably have practice with the Seahawks
on Tuesday and Wednesday or Wednesday and Thursday.
Yeah, they'll probably practice Sunday, Monday
and then break on Tuesday.
Wednesday, Thursday, joint practices against the Seahawks.
And then Sunday on Sunday night football.
the 23rd of August, they have another preseason game.
And then six days later, Saturday the 29th, against the Bears.
And Robert Salasani wants to have joint practices with the Bears during that week.
Then they have their final preseason game against the Bears on August 29th.
And then the NFL has changed cut down day,
which used to be on Tuesday at 4 p.m. after the final preseason game.
Now it's Sunday.
Literally Sunday at 6 p.m.
on August the 30th,
the Titans will cut down their roster.
So we'll know at 6 p.m. on Sunday night on August 30th
what the Titans 53-man roster is.
And then from there, we break it all down.
Two weeks later, September 13th,
Titans have their first game against the New York Jets.
Week 1, at home, Robert Solis, former team,
Gino Smith, Breeze Hall, Garrett Wilson.
good offensive line.
Going to be a challenge
for the Titans defensive line early on.
It's going to be a challenge
for the Titans secondary early on.
Now the Jets defense
not as worried about the Jets defense
if I'm honest with you.
The Titans off.
What a great matchup.
The Jets' offense is going to be better
than their defense,
but the Titans defense should be better
than their offense.
And the Jets defense
isn't really that good.
So it gives the Titans a decent matchup
to start off with.
And David Bailey is a good rusher
and Will McDonald is a good.
good rusher and, you know, they got a lot of big guys up front, like Tavondre Sweat, of course.
They don't really have a terrifying, dominant pass rusher.
So kind of a great matchup for the Titans, like we talked about when the schedule came out.
But with that being said, that is the schedule.
That is the lead up.
That's what we have, the five-week break, training camp, pre-season, cut down.
Season is here.
So football will be back before you know it.
But I have so much playing for you guys.
We're going to talk summer goals for individual players.
We're going to build a World Cup team out of Tennessee Titans players.
We're going to talk about where each individual position, you know, group is,
how I would rank them.
We're going to do a 53-man roster prediction.
Now that we're into the summer, we're going to talk about free agents.
The Titans could still add.
We're going to do a ASC South divisional breakdown week that I do every single year.
There is a lot more content coming your way over the summer.
