Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans MUST SIGN Joey Bosa for Pass Rush Help & Kevin Zeitler REUNION NEEDED IMMEDIATELY
Episode Date: May 4, 2026The Tennessee Titans have worked through the two big player acquisition phases of the offseason with free agency and then the NFL Draft, but they still have quite a few needs on the roster where thing...s are not solidified. First, the pass rush has gotten some additions, but Joey Bosa would be an excellent fit and a low-risk, high-reward option. The Titans could also use some help at interior offensive line and while they may want to get a look at the young players, signing Kevin Zeitler needs to happen ASAP. This move would be certainly make Tyler feel better about the o-line and probably make Cam Ward feel better too. Finally, the Titans nickel cornerback spot is still open and while there has been a push for Marcus Harris as of late, a potential veteran addition could make some sense. The Tennessee Titans still have a big knee to edge rusher,
and that's why they must go out and sign Joey Bosa.
I'll break it down on today's edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast,
part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast.
I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans on today's show.
you're going to look at the biggest remaining needs on the Titans roster and who the best
free agent fit is. We'll talk about a free agent versus Marcus Harris at slot cornerback.
We'll talk about why the Titans must bring back Kevin Zitler on the interior offensive line.
But I want to start with edge rusher where I think the Titans still have a big time need.
And Joey Bosa would be the perfect fit.
And there are multiple reasons why I think Joey Bosa would be the perfect fit for the 10th
Titans. Number one, he is a veteran player with a ton of success rushing the passer. It's that simple.
He's been one of the better edge rushers in the NFL since he got drafted and Bosa may be at
the end of his career. He's no spring chicken anymore. He's going to turn 31 in July. But with the
way the Titans plan to rotate the defensive line, I think that alleviates the concern about
Bosa's age and the concern about Bosa's health.
And at the end of the day, you look at Joey Bosa over the last two seasons,
he's played 29 games. He played 14 games and then 15 games.
So I know that he's had injury issues in the past, but they haven't been a big deal as of late.
And the Titans aren't going to have to pay Joey Bosa like a top tier edge rusher.
It's not like Bosa's going to get $25 to $30 million.
The Titans have $60 million in cap space.
still remaining. Realistically, they have about $40 million that they could play with.
You could give Joey Bosa a $10 to $12 million deal to come in here,
be on a rotation, and be the best pass rusher that the Titans would have on the edge.
And not only all of that, but Robert Sala, obviously coached Nick Bosa,
Joey Bosa's younger brother during their time together with the San Francisco 49ers.
so that personal connection may help kind of grease the skids for a move like this.
Not only that, but Bosa could teach the young players the Titans have like a Femiola-Dagio.
The Bosa's are known for their excellent hand technique.
I mean, Nick Bosa, Joey Boso are good athletes.
Don't, you know, misconstrue what I'm saying.
But they never were guys who absolutely overwhelmed people with their athleticism.
were good technicians, great with their hands, understood angles.
So you have a guy like Joey Bosa who can maybe help refine Femiola DeGio's game.
I know that Joey Bosa and Jermaine Johnson aren't that far apart in age with
Jermaine Johnson, but I think Bosa could still teach some things to Jermaine Johnson.
So when you look at the rest of the Titans Edge Group 2, it makes the need for Joey Bosa
even more pronounced and all of those reasons work for Joey Bosa.
But again, the edge group is still a massive need, in my opinion,
and drafting Keldrick Falk didn't really change the way I feel about the need on the edge,
especially with the way that they talk about Keldrick Falk.
Robert Sala and Gus Bradley had talked about Kaldrick Falk being somebody who rushes from the interior.
He's going to play on the edge on early downs and then rush from the interior.
Well, if he's going to rush from the interior, then that means on Pats.
passing downs, you didn't really help your edge rush issue at all.
Jermaine Johnson is not an alpha edd rusher.
I have, you know, I struggle with some of the conversations that I see take place
and some of the feedback that I get.
I just don't understand where some people get these ideas in their head.
I had somebody say to me online the other day because everybody was mad at me.
Everybody was mad when I said the Titans Eddress Group is not good.
the Titans have one of the worst edge rush groups in the NFL on paper.
All right?
They do.
There's no way around it.
Jermaine Johnson is your best edge rusher right now.
And again, I think people just misconstrue who Jermaine Johnson is.
And when I try to give you a splash of reality, you call me a hater.
But I don't think it makes me a hater to say,
Jermaine Johnson is not an alpha edge rusher.
Jermaine Johnson is not getting 14 sacks this year.
Jermaine Johnson at his peak got seven and a half sacks.
You know who Jermaine Johnson is?
Jermaine Johnson is an appropriately paid Bud Dupree.
Jermaine Johnson is a discount Harold Landry.
And I don't mean in their skill set,
like, you know, Harold Landry and Jermaine Johnson don't win the same way.
They don't have the same body type.
I'm saying in what the expectation of their role should be.
Harold Landry was a good number two edge rusher.
The problem is the Titans never gave him a number one edge rusher
to slot him properly.
Bud Dupree was a good number two edge rusher.
The problem is that John Robinson paid him like a number one edge rusher,
which I call dumb in real time.
This ain't 20-20 hindsight.
when the Bud Dupree deal happened
I did not like it
and guess what happened then
everybody yelled at me
said Ties negative
Uncle Ties being mean
he hates the Titans
he doesn't want the Titans to win
why is he saying that
Bud Dupree isn't a good signing
why is he's a hater
well
just like with Bud Dupree
I'm going to tell you with Jermaine Johnson
I ain't being a hater
by telling you he ain't getting 14 sacks
Germain Johnson at his best.
Let's assume.
Let's take a moment and assume
that Jermaine Johnson gets back to the level he was at
before he blew his Achilles out.
Let's assume that.
That heading into age 28 season,
two years removed from a blown Achilles,
never having higher sacks than seven and a half in a year,
that it's all going to go great.
The best version of Jermaine Johnson with the Titans is a 10-sac player
like Harold Landry, like a Bud Dupree.
These guys, Jermaine Johnson, Harold Landry, Bud Dupree,
they're not 15 to 17-sac players, alpha edge rushers in the NFL.
That's not who they are.
And that doesn't mean that they're bad.
The problem is Bud Dupree was overpaid.
If Bud Dupree was paid $10 million a year, he would have been fine.
Germaine Johnson's getting paid $13 million this year,
which is fine if he gets back to his pre-Achilees form.
If he doesn't get back to his pre-Akelees form,
and he looked like he looked last year for the Jets,
the Titans are not getting their monies for it.
And that is more likely than 15 sacks this year for Jermaine Johnson,
14 sacks, 12 to 14, whatever person said.
Like, who do you guys think Jermaine Johnson is?
He's a solid number two effort rusher
who's good against the run
is physical and is a great person to have in your locker room
who knows Robert Salas system.
It was a smart trade
because an average edge rusher
is worth way more than an average nose tackle.
Even a good nose tackle.
I would rather have an average edge rusher
than a good run stuffing nose tap, period.
So like the conversation around who Jermaine Johnson is seems to be the gap
between people who think the Titans edge rusher spot is good
and the people like me who think the Titans edge rusher spot is bad.
Some of you think Jermaine Johnson is somebody who he isn't.
And if you're telling me two years off in Achilles
going into a new team that he's going to all of a sudden become someone
who he's never been ever in his life, then fine.
wait on that to happen. I'm not. I'm going to go get Joey Bosa and add to the group.
And then Femi, it doesn't mean that I'm giving up on Femiola-Dajio, to be honest.
He's a converted linebacker who missed a lot of development time last year on the field,
in games, which is where he's actually going to develop, not in pass rush camps and
preseason practices. He's going to develop in games against real opponents at full speed.
So I don't expect any development from Femiola-Dazio at this point
until during the season, the second half of the season,
we might see Femi explode.
But you can't bank on that right now.
Right now, he is a converted linebacker
with zero pass rushability who's only good against the run.
That's who Femi is right now.
That's a below-average edge rush.
And Jacob Martin,
a 30-year-old journeyman speed rusher
who's a 30-year-old speed rusher
and it's Jacob Martin
who's never been anything more than a backup.
So some of you will say
oh, don't sign Joey Bosa because
the injuries.
Well, he's played 29 games in two years.
The money, they have $60 million
and he's only going to be worth 10 to 12 million.
The opportunity cost.
You want more Femiolidazia.
Well, Robert Sala has said
He doesn't want his guys playing more than
60% of the snaps anyway.
So having Joey, but right now,
it's Jalen Harrell and Jacob Martin.
That's who I want to give more snaps to
from to Joey Bosa.
It's those guys.
Not Jermaine and Femi,
they're still going to get their 60% snaps.
I want Bosa
as the third edge rusher,
especially again, if Kaldrick Falk
is going to exclusively rush from the interior,
which I think is smart.
So whether it be Bosa as a player,
whether it be the uncertainty of the Titans group,
I think the Titans have to go out and get an edge rusher.
Of course, I want it to be Bosa,
but Cam Jordan, Leonard Floyd, Hassan Reddick,
if you want to go a different route,
Y. Tertr Gros Montos, A.J. Esponessa,
Janavian Clowny, I just think the Titans need more
at the edge rusher spot.
And I think Bosa has the high-end potential
to make it an actual good edge rusher group.
So that's what I want to see from the Titans.
But I think the number one spot that people are worried about the most
is interior offensive line.
And boy, would I feel better if they went out and signed Kevin Zitler bat.

Again, we're looking at the Tennessee Titans.
biggest remaining needs and the best free agent fit for each of those.
I talked about Joey Bosa in the Edge Group.
Now I want to move to the offensive side of the ball
where I'll tell you why the Titans need to bring back Kevin Zitler,
but why they should not sign a free agent wide receiver.
We start on that interior offensive line.
But first, I want to thank you for making Locked on Titans,

Actually, the next two shows for the Locked on Titans podcast.
I'm going to do my initial 53-man roster prediction.
You guys always love the predictions and all that.
Can't wait to have those discussions with you guys.
But again, the interior offensive line.
Bring back Kevin Seitler.
Why are we playing these games?
I have talked about this quite a bit.
I don't think that I need to beat the dead horse for very long here.
But Cam Ward's protection.
Cam Ward's future.
Cam Ward's developed.
Cam Ward.
Two words, Cam Ward.
It's not worth,
or Cam Ward's future development, all that,
is not worth risking on these uncertain interior offensive linemen.
Again, Jackson Slater
may turn out to be a good place.
and maybe we're all wrong.
Maybe I should have more faith.
Maybe my lack of faith is disturbing.
For Darth Slater,
who the Titans have affectionately nicknamed
from the May the 4th Be With You video
that they put out with Jackson Slater
who was a massive, massive Star Wars nerd.
Now, I like Star Wars too,
but just some of the things Jackson Slater was saying,
I'm more into the Marvel DC stuff than Star Wars at this point,
but that guy knows his Star Wars,
but Darth Slater is a sick nickname,
and we're going to rock with that.
And that nickname alone made me reconsider my position
and say, you know what?
Screw Kevin Zitler.
We're going with Darth Slater.
But let's be serious for a second.
Are you going to have a career backup
in Austin Schlotman
and a fifth round pit from last year
in Jackson Slater
starting on your interior offensive line in front of Cam Ward.
Is that the plan?
What if it's two rookies?
What if it's Pat Coogan and Fernando Carmona?
Is that really the route that we want to go with Cam Ward's health
and Cam Ward's protection and Cam Ward's potential?
Is that what you want to do in year two when this offense needs to take steps forward?
This offensive line is not good.
Dan Moore is average to below average at left tackle.
J.C. Latham is average at
best, although I think he can be better than that.
He is an average at best starting tackle right now.
So you have average to below average and then average at tackle.
You're going to have significantly below average at guard center
and then you have elite at left guard with Peter Skronsky,
who is truly one of the best five guards in the entire NFL.
Is below average elite, below average, below average average average?
Is that a good offensive line?
No.
The Titans have gotten significant.
worse on the offensive line after last year.
So, I have faith.
The Jackson Slater can become a decent player.
I think that Fernando Carmona, Pat Coogan,
one of those three guys,
will turn into a starting level player.
But I'm not banking on that.
Especially Cam Ward coming off an injury.
I'm not banking on that for a second.
Kevin Zitler, while being 36 years old,
getting banged up at times last year,
had the best pressure rate allowed
for any right guard in the entire NFL, 2.9%.
I think there's any guard in the NFL, period.
He's an elite pass blocker still at 36.
Now, run blocking requires a little more strength,
a little more viciousness, a little more speed,
not as technique-based.
I mean, it's technique involved.
Don't get me wrong here, but I'm just saying,
as an older player, it's easier to pass.
task protect in my opinion than it is to run block.
At guard, at guard.
A tackle, we can have a different conversation,
but at guard.
Can find spaces, just don't let somebody get in front of you.
Use your body positioning, your hand technique,
just make sure that you hold your ground.
But when you got to fire out of your stance,
move somebody against their will,
all that may get a little bit harder.
So I know that there are downsides here.
And every snap that Kevin Zitler gets
is a snap that Fernando Carmona or Jackson Slater is not getting.
But I guess what it comes down to is
if I am weighing certainty, confidence
in Cam Ward's protection in year two
versus the development of day three rookies,
I'm going to easily, easily favor Cam Ward's protection.
It's not even a question.
Now here is a potential scenario, a theory of what could be happening here.
Kevin Zitler
just is old, just doesn't want to do OTAs,
doesn't want to do any voluntary workouts,
doesn't need to, I'm a 36-year-old veteran,
I've been in the league forever, I don't need to do all this stuff.
I'll see you guys at training camp.
And then maybe Kevin Zitler is signed right before camp
to get ready to go and all of that.
Maybe that's the case.
but until that happens,
I'm going to look at the Titans interior offensive line
and be concerned, and you should do.
Now, maybe the Titans go out and get a center.
Maybe they do like one of those guards, Slater or Carmona,
and they want to get a center.
Maybe Graham Glasgow, Ethan Posich.
But I got to tell you, I think it's much more likely,
much more likely
that the Titans start Austin Schloteman or Pat Coogan
or Fernando Carmona at center
and then bring back Kevin Zitler or start at right guard.
That would make me feel better.
It's one thing to start two of those guys in those two spots,
but to only have one of them significantly minimizes my concern.
And maybe it's not Zitler.
Maybe I'm wrong about that.
Maybe it's Joel Betonio.
Maybe it's Mackay Bechton.
But I just don't understand why the Titans wouldn't get the familiar guy
who's been there, who's played next to late,
them who can learn any system.
It's not going to be hard for Kevin Zitler to learn the system.
He's going to be fine.
So I don't know why the Titans would go grab somebody who Beckton has locker room
concerns and weight concerns and effort concerns and injury concerns
and Betonio is also the same age as Kevin Zitler.
Why would they go with one of those guys instead of the devil that they know in Kevin Zitl?
You know what I mean?
It just doesn't, wouldn't make a lot of sense to me.
Now, staying on the offense, I know that there are wide receivers out there.
Stefan Diggs, Juan Jennings, Tyree Kill, DeAndre Hopkins,
the Samuels Debo and Curtis, and I gotta tell you, no, I'm out.
I'm out on all of them.
Whereas the Titans have day three interior offensive linemen,
and then a wide receiver they have, you know, some day three,
Wide receivers in Chim DK and Elykeyeom, of course.
The Titans also have
Cornell Tate, a first-round pick.
So to me, it's different saying,
no, I want to go with the young guys at wide receiver,
Chim D.K. in year two,
who proved he's a pretty solid player last year.
Cornell Tate as a rookie who was a top five pick.
To me, that's a different conversation.
And they're wide receivers.
Totally different combination to talk about the offensive line
that has to protect Cam Ward to make sure he doesn't get hurt.
Fernando Cormona, Pat Cougan, Jackson Slater,
Austin Slotman.
They are not first-round picks.
They are not guys who showed a ton of promise last year,
whether Cugan and Cormona because they were in college
or Schlotman because he's just a backup level guy
and Slater only got to play one game there at the end of the season.
So it's like
the immediate impact on Cam Ward's protection,
the potential upside
and the players involved
makes it a totally different conversation
for me at wide receiver than interior
offensive line.
And none of the wide receivers,
Diggs, Jennings, although Diggs has some history
with Brian Dable, I'll give you that,
but Diggs, Jennings, Hill, Hop,
but none of those guys
were on the team literally last year.
and are in Nashville and want to be in Nashville.
You know, it would take a little bit more to get those guys back.
So I know that at first blush, it would seem hypocritical to say,
I want to sign somebody on the interior offensive line
because I don't trust the young guys,
and then go to wide receiver and say,
I trust the young guys, I don't want to sign anybody.
But clearly you could see the differences in the situation there, right?
Like, clearly, the circumstances are different.
So I do want to bank on the young guys at wide receiver.
I do not want to bank on the young guys on the offensive line.
But with that being said, we've got to go over to defense
where I think that slot cornerback,
Marcus Harris has gotten a lot of hype lately,
but I still wouldn't rule out a potential free agent option.
Do want to let you know that today's episode is brought to you by indeed.

Let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
Again, we're looking at the Tennessee Titans.
biggest remaining needs on the roster.
We talked about edge, interior, offensive line,
potentially wide receiver.
Now I want to move to the defensive side of the ball.
Talk about slot cornerback.
Talk about linebacker and the positions
that the Titans don't need a free agent fit app.
Before I do though, I want to remind you guys

But with that being said, I look at slot cornerback.
And I know that Marcus Harris has been getting hype.
Robert Sala, Gus Bradley, don't sleep on Marcus Harris.
I think Marcus Harris is an impressive guy, all of this different stuff.
So Marcus Harris is definitely in the catbird seat.
He's in the pole position right now for that slot cornerback spot.
But I disagree with the notion that Marcus Harris is a bigger-bodied slot cornerback.
I don't really buy that as an option.
I don't know if Marcus Harris is going to be physical enough
to play the run consistently as the nickel on,
early downs. I think he's sticky enough in coverage where he could be the passing down slot
cornerback. Certainly, he could back up Cordell Flott as the field cornerback. I think all of that's
possible. But to be that early down, every down nickel, you've got to be a little more physical.
And I think you've got to be a little bigger than Marcus Harris. Now, I'll say this. I have continued
to say that I think Kevin Winston would be an excellent big nific.
I think him is the early down nickel
with Marcus Harris as the passing down slot
that is a perfect combination
and again this is something that you see all over the NFL
platooning that slot cornerback spot
especially teams that like to run three safety looks at big nickel
so I think that is a plan the Titans should follow
I think that would be maximizing Kevin Winston
puts Marcus Harrison a great role that fits his skill set
I think that would be great
but maybe the Titans don't want to do that.
Maybe the Titans see Kevin Winston as a pure safety.
Maybe they don't think that Kevin Winston can be a big nickel.
If that is the case,
and Marcus Harris doesn't prove that he's physical enough
to be an early-down nickel,
then I think going to get one might be a good option.
And Mike Hilton
formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals,
whoop the Titans in that playoff game against the Bengals.
You know which one I'm talking about.
The worst, the worst beat in Titans history, maybe.
For my career, that was the worst lost Titans ever took.
But maybe the Titans go get a guy like Mike Hilton.
Very physical.
Cornerback, slot guy, good at blitzing.
And again, not an outside guy, a slot cornerback,
but a good blitzer, very physical.
always been a very physical slot cornerback.
Maybe Mike Hilton could make some sense.
Kenny Moore, yes, of the Indianapolis Colts,
has requested a trade, has not been traded.
Maybe, eventually, after June 1st,
Kenny Moore is released.
And I've seen some Colts people say,
if they can't trade Kenny Moore, they'll probably release it.
if Kenny Moore is released,
that would be a great option.
Kenny Moore has been one of the best slot cornerbacks
in the entire NFL for years.
So I don't think it's super likely,
which is why I put it here at the end of the episode.
I think the Titans would rather let Kevin Winston,
Marcus Harris,
I think the Titans would rather play Josh Williams outside
and let Alante Taylor play the big nickel spot
than they would to go out and sign a free agent.
But maybe.
But maybe.
that could be an option.
So keep your eye on that.
We've talked a tonne about linebacker.
Now, maybe Cody Barton gets cut.
If Cody Barton gets cut
and they want to bring in their own veteran linebacker,
maybe they bring in Bobby Wagner.
Who's played in the system before
and can coach up young guys.
Maybe they bring in Bobby O'Caricay,
like we've been talking about,
who again is a veteran player
who can coach up the young guys,
back up Anthony Hill.
Would fit the system better
than a guy like Cody Barton.
So maybe they get rid of Cody Barton and they bring in a veteran linebacker.
But if they don't get rid of Cody Barton,
I don't think they bring anybody in at linebacker.
Other than they're going to add a ton of guys at, you know,
as they turn the roster.
It's not like they're never going to add an edge or like cuts
and different things come available and try out guys get cut
and guys from the old roster they don't want around.
They'll change and get somebody new.
Like there's going to be changes.
But big time names who you'd actually know
and calling Bobby O'Caricay.
a big time name feels a little wrong.
But you know what I'm saying.
You know who Bobby O'Caricay is.
These undrafted free agent tryout cut,
like Dorian Musai,
who the Titans brought in light.
You don't know who Dorian Musai is.
You know who Bobby O'Karek is.
So you guys see what I mean there.
But if they don't cut Barton,
I don't think they need to add a linebacker.
Also, interior D-line,
outside cornerback, running back,
tight-in, offensive tackle quarterback.
I don't see the need for big time free agent additions there.
Turn the roster, look for depth.
If some presents itself, sure.
But I wouldn't be expecting to sign somebody
who you recognize at running back tight end,
offensive tackle, quarterback, interior defensive line, or outside.
Edge, interior O line.
I think I said interior O line.
I'm an interior defensive line there at the end.
But edge, interior O line.
offensive line, maybe wide receiver, maybe, maybe slot corner, maybe linebacker.
Those are the only spots where I think the Titans have, you know, needs that you could look at and say,
maybe, maybe we go out and get one of these free agents that are still available.
But let me know what you think the Titans' biggest needs are.
Let me know your favorite free agent fit for those needs.
That's going to do it for me today, folks.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland, and this.
