Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans MUST TRADE Arden Key, Major Injuries to Cushenberry, Diggs & No Draft Pick Fear
Episode Date: November 4, 2024The Tennessee Titans may have won on Sunday, but they still need to be sellers at the NFL Trade deadline and deal edge rusher Arden Key. Unfortunately, a lot of the Titans other trade options will no...t be as realistic due to recent injuries. Two of those injuries being season-enders to Lloyd Cushenberry and Quandre Diggs. While both are damaging, the Cushenberry injury hurts the Titans more in the long term while Diggs hurts more in the short term. Finally, despite the Titans beating the Patriots, fans who care more about draft position should not be overly concerned that the victory will hurt the Titans in the draft order.Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel:https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitansTicTacTitans Merchandise: https://dixons-dream.square.site/shop/tictactitans-gear/C3AAPNWXSXA6SBYG3USV2I7R?page=1&limit=30&sort_by=category_order&sort_order=ascFollow Tyler on Twitter @TicTacTitansFollow the show on Facebook @LockedOnTitansPodSubscribe to the Locked On Titans YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/c/LockedOnTitans/videosSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Pre-Alcohol by ZbioticsGo to zbiotics.com/LOCKEDONNFL to learn more and get 15% off your first order when you use LOCKEDONNFL at checkout.BetterHelpThis episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. We're going to talk about the NFL trade deadline,
who the Tennessee Titans should trade, who they can't trade now.
Also, we're going to talk about two major injury updates.
The Titans lose two important starters for the year.
What do they do now?
Also, I'm just going to calm your guys' concerns about where the Titans are picking in the draft as things stand right now.
Before we get into all of it, do want to thank you for making the Locked on Titans podcast
your first listen each and every day.

Tune in Monday through Friday.
Couldn't do it without you guys.
If you aren't an everydayer,
you need to be one
because tomorrow,
I'm going to break down
all of the trade deadline action
if the Titans make any more moves.
We do got to look ahead
to a game across the country
against the Los Angeles Chargers as well.
So again, make sure that you get subscribed.
Stay subscribed.
It's your team every day. Well, like I said, the NFL trade deadline is at 4 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday.
Honestly, the NFL trade deadline, probably the biggest thing happening in America on Tuesday.
I, well, maybe I think that's fair to say. And the Tennessee Titans need to continue to be sellers.
So look, I know that the Tennessee Titans won that game
against the New England Patriots.
And while they're 2-6, you look around at the AFC,
and I guess if you wanted to convince yourself
the Titans could push for the final wildcard spot,
if they turn things around and they make a run,
okay, you could do that.
But I'm sorry, I'm not going to be able to get to that point.
The Tennessee Titans are not making the playoffs.
I honestly would be surprised if the Titans won more than two games
the rest of the season.
Like a 20-17 overtime win, ugly win, against the New England Patriots,
who I also think are one of the worst five teams in the NFL.
That is not going to change my mind on what I think this team is.
And hopefully, hopefully it doesn't change Rancar Thon's mind on what this team is.
I've had people ask should the Titans be sellers.
Well, folks, they already are.
Selling away DeAndre Hopkins, selling away Ernest Jones.
Like the Titans have already told you, we know that this team is not going to make a run.
We know that this team is not going to make the playoffs.
And we are looking to sell off pieces.
And I think the number one piece that the Titans should be looking to sell off,
and not only are they looking,
we already have heard confirmation that there are conversations being had.
It's Arden Key.
And Arden Key having four sacks in the last, or four sacks in the last three weeks
is great news for the Tennessee Titans. Now, here's the reality. Arden Key does have another
year on his contract. So you could say, why would you get rid of Arden Key, bring him back next
year? He's starting to play very well. He's helping the pass rush, blah, blah, blah, this and that.
But I just don't think that Arden Key is a good enough player
to hold and want to keep for next year.
The reality is, outside of this little stretch where Arden Key has been good
last year, mostly unimpactful.
This year, yes, he's had a good stretch,
but Arden Key is also a player who has bad, bad moments.
If you look at yesterday's game, he's the guy who dove at Drake May's legs and missed
and allowed Drake May to run around for 11 seconds.
There's also a big play late in that game
where Arden Key makes an inside move.
He gets beat and he just stops rushing.
Like Arden Key has good moments,
but he doesn't have enough good moments.
I continue to say he's not a starting level player in the NFL.
He is a tertiary rus NFL. He is a tertiary
rusher. He is a third rusher, and he would fit perfectly behind two starting edge rushers. That's
where in San Francisco, he got his career back on track. In Jacksonville, he earned the contract
that he got from the Titans, and I don't think the Titans ever paid $7 million a year for Arden
Key. It's been an okay value, but the point that I'm making is Arden Key isn't
such a good player and such a reliable player and a confirmed starting level edge rusher that the
Titans need to keep him around. I just don't think that that is something that needs to happen. So
if they can capitalize right now, and according to Diana Rossini from The Athletic, the report
came out over the weekend, the Tennessee Titans and the Arizona Cardinals
have had discussions about Arden Key, and the Cardinals had a pretty good pass rush performance
against the Chicago Bears. I think they had six sacks on Sunday, so maybe their interest is cooled,
but hopefully not. Hopefully they look at Arden Key and they say, we add him to this mix,
and we can make a push to win the NFC North. That's what I want the Cardinals to be thinking.
And Monty Austin Fort, who used to be with the Tennessee Titans front office, who's the general
manager for Arizona now, he's somebody who knows about Arden Key and was around for some of the
conversations that were had before Arden Key was brought in. So to me, I would love to make that
deal now. A lot of people instantly ask, what would the Titans get? For me, realistically,
I think best case scenario
for Arden Key, you're looking at a fifth round pick.
Worst case scenario for Arden Key,
it would be a sixth round pick.
If it's anything lower than a sixth round pick,
then I'm simply not interested because I don't feel
that you're getting proper value. A seventh round
pick to me is nowhere near
the fifth round value that I think
that they should be able to get. So, if it
were me, I would be looking for a fifth round pick.
If you can't get the fifth, I would take a sixth round pick from anybody, really, for
Arden Key.
But I think getting Jalen Harrell more opportunities.
Jalen Harrell could be your third edge rusher next year.
And then you'll have Harold Landry.
You'll have Jalen Harrell as your third rusher.
Hopefully, the Titans are able to draft or add somebody in free agency that can be that
second starting edge rusher for them.
But I would absolutely be looking to deal Arden Key.
Now, other options, I continue to say Nick Folk.
Why would the Titans have a 40-year-old kicker?
You know, that's something that you would have
if you're a playoff team.
You know that you're going to be in close games.
You know that you need to eke out wins.
Like Nick Folk has been great, but there
are teams out there that are struggling at kicker
that will be playoff teams, and I think
they could have some interest. Now, you're probably only
looking at a seventh-round pick at that point, but
again, it's a 40-year-old kicker that
probably won't be here next year, and you're a team
that isn't really
going to be a playoff contender.
It doesn't really matter to me.
Sadly, I think that Quandre Diggs
would have been an excellent trade option.
I think a player like Dylan Radins
might even have been a trade option for the Titans.
But Dylan Radins missed last game with an injury.
And unfortunately, Quandre Diggs
going to be out for the season.
And that kind of limits the trade options the Titans would have.
Jeffrey Simmons, Calvin Ridley, LeJarrius Sneed, Harold Landry,
I don't like any of those options.
I don't think any of it.
First, Simmons, Ridley, and Sneed are not being traded.
It doesn't even make sense.
If you look at the money and the guaranteed money
the Titans would have to swallow, that's not happening.
And Harold Landry is a guy who I think is too important to the team
and can keep around for next year when the Titans hopefully are to swallow. That's not happening. And Harold Landry is a guy who I think is too important to the team and can keep around for next year
when the Titans hopefully are a more competitive bunch.
But let's talk about these major injuries,
one on offense, one on defense,
and what the Titans do from here.
Before we do, I do want to let you guys know
that today's episode is brought to you by GameTime.

Talked about some trade options the Titans would have.
I really think Arden Key is their only realistic trade option right now
considering some of the injury situations the Titans are facing.
And we're going to talk about those injuries now at the end of the show.
I'm just going to go on a little bit of a Roland's rant
to talk about people freaking out about the Titans draft position,
which I think is completely unnecessary if I'm honest.
But let's talk about these injuries because, man,
I said it in my little short video that I put out,
but even when the Titans win, the Tennessee Titans lose.
Before I dive in, thanks again for making Locked on Titans
your first listen each and every day.
It's your team every day here on the Locked on Titans podcast.
But first, we heard about Lloyd Cushenberry on Sunday night.
Lloyd Cushenberry, torn Achilles,
out for the rest of the season,
and then we got that followed up with Quandre Diggs,
out for the season with a Liz Frank injury,
which is a foot injury.
I'm not a doctor, so I'm not going to go into the details,
but it's a foot injury.
I think the Liz Frank is like a bone in your foot,
but now I'm getting out of my territory, all right?
Like I said, not a doctor.
But both of those guys are going to be out for the year,
and they have been quality veteran players for the Titans.
Lloyd Cushenberry, the bigger loss, in my opinion,
because it stunts the development of the offensive line as a five-man group, and the Titans
gave them a $50 million contract in the
offseason. The reality is, Quandre Diggs
was on a one-year low-money deal.
So, like, long-term, it's not
like, you know, the Titans,
we're going to have to find a new safety,
or get a new safety after the year
anyways. But with
Lloyd Cushenberry, a torn Achilles,
that could linger into next year.
So when it comes to next year's outlook, the Lloyd Cushenberry injury is way worse than the
Quandre Diggs injury. But on the other side of it, when you look at how this impacts the team right
now, I actually think it's the opposite. The Quandre Diggs injury is a much more damning injury
for the Titans right now in terms of what they do next.
So looking at Lloyd Cushenberry, okay,
obviously hurts the team.
And we talked about the impact next year in Achilles,
his age coming back from that.
How will that impact his all season?
Will he be available for training camp?
Like Achilles is the new terrifying injury. ACL, guys come back from the ACL and they look all right. You know what I mean?
Like it's not as bad of an injury as it was 15, 20 years ago, but the Achilles, that is still a
major concern. But at center and you look at the interior offensive line, that is actually a place
where the Titans have a little bit of depth. And I look, number one, at Daniel Brunskill.
And I said this yesterday, Sunday night on Twitter,
at Tic Tac Titans.
Follow me there if you don't already.
But Brian Callahan confirmed it on Monday in his press conference
that the idea will be you get Dylan Radins back,
he goes back to right guard,
and then you put Daniel Brunskill at center,
and Daniel Brunskill, again, not as good as Lloyd Cushenberry, and in the Titans system,
Dylan Radins is a better fit at guard because he's bigger and stronger, but Daniel Brunskill is a
low-level starting NFL offensive lineman, and Daniel Brunskill actually had a pretty good game
yesterday playing at right guard. Gave up zero pressures, gave up zero sacks. Like if you move Daniel
Brunskill to center and you have Dylan Radins back at right guard, I honestly don't think that
there's going to be this massive drop off from what Lloyd Cushenberry was able to do. Now,
Daniel Brunskill is not going to be as good of a run blocker as Lloyd Cushenberry. He's just not
as big and as strong as Cush is. But Daniel Brunskill is not going to be as good of a run blocker as Lloyd Cushenberry. He's just not as big and as strong as Cush is.
But Daniel Brunskill has always been an effective pass protector
because he's an athletic guy.
You know, he would be used as like the Titans heavy tight end
throughout the season because Daniel Brunskill is an athlete.
Like he was always known as an athletic, agile guy.
He had his best years in San Francisco
where they were running that wide zone, zone run scheme
that requires a ton of athleticism from the offensive line.
So I think that Daniel Brunskill as a center,
that would be a perfectly fine situation.
Again, I don't think that that is as damaging to the Titans right now
as the loss of Quandre Diggs at safety.
So you put Dylan Radins at right guard,
you put Daniel Brunskill at center,
and the Titans offensive line will be a little bit worse,
but I don't think it'll be a dramatic step back
for this offensive line, which is great news.
I think you keep playing Leroy Watson at right tackle,
and you go with that group the rest of the year.
That's where they're at.
Now, the problem comes if Dylan Radins is still unable to play, and then you got to play Daniel Brunskill at right guard, and then
you got to play Corey Levin at center. Look, I like Corey Levin. He's been a guy who's been involved
with the Tennessee Titans organization for a long time now. He's a good quality practice squad depth
player to have around who knows the system, is comfortable with the environment, all of that.
But we saw yesterday
even though he didn't have a terrible game Corey Levin did not play poorly in the game but the high
snaps you know that's going to be something and Brian Callahan even said in his press conference
we got to get the high snaps reined in but overall Corey Levin didn't play too poorly so
honestly we have to hope that Dylan Radins is back at right guard and that Daniel Brunskill can play center for the Titans,
and I really don't think that that is some season crushing
or it's going to kill the quarterbacks or anything like that.
But I think if Corey Levin had to play consistently
with Daniel Brunskill at right guard, now you're really, really,
I don't want to say weak because these dudes are 10 times stronger
than I'll ever hope to be, but you just have smaller guys that aren't as strong in those spots.
And I think the Titans interior offensive line could get overpowered a little bit at
that point in time.
But again, the loss of Lloyd Cushenberry is more of a concern for next year and the money
that could be wasted because of his recovery timeline more than it is a problem right now.
Like Quandre Diggs, who are the Titans going
to play at safety now?
You cut Jamal Adams, which great, fine with that.
That was a stupid signing for the first place.
But the reason that you traded Elijah Molden, who's having a great year with the Chargers
right now, who you're about to play this week, revenge game for him.
You traded Elijah Molden because you brought in Jamal Adams and you thought you didn't
need Elijah Molden because you brought in Jamal Adams and you thought you didn't need Elijah Molden I like the value that they got in the trade for Elijah Molden but the process
to trading Elijah Molden I disagreed with all along Elijah Molden is a better football player
than Jamal Adams so what like I just hated the Jamal Adams move and the domino effect that it had
on the defense and the personnel decisions and all of that. Here's what's going to happen though.
Mike Brown is going to have to step up and play.
And Mike Brown is a guy who I like.
I think he's underrated by the fan base.
A lot of people don't even know who Mike Brown is.
I think Mike Brown is a quality third safety and in a dime safety role being
that third safety.
I think he's a quality player who's better than Jamal Adams too.
So I, you know, I was just like, always like, God,
why are we prioritizing this bump? But Mike Brown isn't a starting level safety.
And at this point in time in the season, like who are you really going to be able to get?
That's a starting level safety. It's like, I've been talking about with right tackle
and edge rusher. Like they're just not there in November. If there was starting quality safety
play on the market in November, it would
be had. And I don't want the Titans to make any trades to go out and get people. They need to be
sellers, not buyers. So the injury to Quandre Diggs, very unfortunate. Will he be back next
year after he's on a one-year deal? It's very doubtful. The Titans probably need to sign a
veteran safety and draft a safety at some point
in this draft coming up. But again, in terms of the right now, the Quandre Diggs move hurts more
because it thrusts Mike Brown into a starting safety role. And then Julius Wood is behind him.
You know, you just don't have the level of players that you need to continue this level
of defense that they've been playing. But for the future, the worst one is certainly Lloyd Cushenberry.
So bad news for the Titans.
But either way, time for a little bit of Roland's rant for you guys.
Everybody freaking out like the Titans ruined their draft pick by winning yesterday.
And I just think it's a little bit overblown.
Before we get into it,

We talked about the move the Titans need to make before the NFL trade deadline,
trading Arden Key, hopefully, to the Arizona Cardinals.
Talked about where the Titans go from here
after some major injury news to two starters.
But now I kind of want to just go on a little bit of a rant here
that I think needs to be said,
and a lot of you people need to hear this, okay?
Before I do, thanks again for making Locked On Titans

But, you know, some people are freaking out about that Titans win,
and really what it goes back to is what I was saying at the end of last week.
I said it on Thursday in the crossover.
I said it on the Friday game plan episode.
The Titans can absolutely afford to beat the New England Patriots.
It is not going to hurt their draft pick going forward.
It's just simply not.
I mean, you look at, so I posted it on all my socials.
But the Titans dropped this weekend from picking number two to picking number nine.
And again, a lot of people freaking out about that.
The Titans just ruined their draft pick.
They can't get a quarterback.
They aren't going to get a blue chip.
But this and that.
And I just, guys, the Titans have already had their bye.
And basically seven of the eight teams in front of them have not had their bye.
So the Titans are going to lose another game that these other teams have already played.
You know what I mean?
Like that is going to factor in.
A lot of the teams in front of the Titans in terms of high pick
have lost seven games and the Titans
have only lost six because they played
an extra game because they didn't have their buy.
So that's going to equal out and even
out as well. Also,
let's be real here.
You know why I'm not concerned
about this? You know what really,
really doesn't have me concerned about the Titans
draft pick? How many games are the Titans going to win the rest of the year? Think about this. You know what really, really doesn't have me concerned about the Titans draft pick?
How many games are the Titans going to win the rest of the year? Think about it. They go across the country to play the Chargers next week. They ain't winning that game. They ain't beating the
Chargers. The Chargers are going to bully the Titans. What are we talking about? And then they
come home and they play the Minnesota Vikings. Look, the Vikings aren't as good as their record says, in my opinion.
But Brian Flores is going to eat Will Levis alive.
And without Quandre Diggs, the middle of the field defense
is going to be even worse for the Titans.
You think they're going to stop Justin Jefferson?
No.
And then they play the Texans.
The Titans aren't beating the Texans.
Not in Houston.
That ain't happening.
And then from there, they play the Commanders.
We thought that was a winnable game.
The Commanders are going to shred the Titans.
They just made Drake May look like Mike Vick.
What's Jaden Daniels going to do?
Come on.
Now, the Titans play the Jaguars at home after that.
I think the Titans will the Jaguars at home after that.
I think the Titans probably win that game.
The Titans could beat Jacksonville,
one of the two remaining matchups, for sure.
That would be three wins.
And then they play the Bengals.
I honestly think that's the one game where if the Titans could pull an upset,
it's that because there's going to be so much emotion
with the former Bengals players on the team
and with Brian Callahan being a former Bengal.
That's going to be a win-one-for-the-gipper type game.
So I can see the Titans maybe winning that one.
And then they play the Colts again.
They lost to Indy at home.
You think they're going to beat Indy in Indy?
I don't.
And then they play Jacksonville at Jacksonville.
I honestly think Jacksonville is a better football team than the Titans.
So I'm not convinced that the Titans are going to beat Jacksonville
either of those times.
And then they finish with the Texans again.
Like, how many more games are the Titans realistically going to win?
One?
Two?
At max?
So, look, I know that a large portion of the fan base
is more concerned about the draft pick right now.
I'm not even going to tell you that you're wrong
for being more concerned about the draft pick.
Like, I get that. Trust me, I do.
But at the same time, come on, folks.
The Titans won a second game.
They haven't won in forever.
They got absolutely mauled by the Bills and the Lions.
They needed this for morale.
These are real people in the locker room They got absolutely mauled by the Bills and the Lions. They needed this for morale.
These are real people in the locker room with real emotions and real work ethics. Like they needed something positive.
And I'm sorry, but I'm not sorry.
This win against the Patriots, getting a second win on the season
with what this team looked like in that win.
This team is not winning a couple more games to ruin their draft pick.
They're going to have three or four wins at maximum,
and they're going to have a top five draft pick this year,
and everything is going to be just fine.
So if you're somebody freaking out about the draft pick,
I'm just encouraging you to relax, calm down.
It's not like this team is about to go on a run or something.
This isn't some turning point, And having two wins instead of one
isn't going to dramatically change where they're at
because the other teams around the Titans
are going to win more games.
Like, there are better teams in this grouping with the Titans
than the Titans.
I think the Titans and the Panthers and the Saints
are like the worst teams in the NFL.
So,
I'm just not overly concerned
that the Titans are all of a sudden
going to start winning games
and ruin their pick.
That ain't happening, folks.
So,
just enjoy the win for what it was
and don't try to make it
some concerning thing that,
you know,
they've ruined their draft pick.
They have not.
It'll be fine.
The tank continues.
And especially after losing Cushenberry and losing Quandre Diggs,
like, this thing ain't getting better.
Okay?
So everyone can have their cake and eat it too.
Get to celebrate a win and know that the draft pick is not going to be,
you know, irreversibly damaged in any way.
But with that being said, that is going to do it for me today, folks.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland.
