The Tennessee Titans should not sign Devonte Adams unless he brings Aaron Rogers with him.

Welcome to the Locked On Titans podcast. I am your host, Tyler Rollins Titans fans.
On today's show, we are gonna preview the wide receiver
tight end and running back positions in free agency.
And I don't think the Titans should make any big moves
at any of those spots, but we will start with a big move I think the Titans should make any big moves at any of those spots. But we will start with a big move.
I think the Titans should consider, and that's bringing in Devante
Adams and Aaron Rogers.
I'll explain why I think that's a good move for the Titans and why if
Rogers isn't coming, then I wouldn't bring in Devante Adams by himself.
Before we get into all of it, you want to thank you for making the locked on

There's free agency next week.
The draft right around the corner.
If you want to make sure you're as informed as you could be as a Tennessee
Titans fan, then make sure that you get subscribed here to the locked
on Titans podcast. But again, Devontae Adams released by the New York jets. Now the reality
here is, and you guys know, if you're listening to the show, you know, these type of fans
that no matter what name gets available, no matter who pops up, they want them.
Sign this guy, sign that guy, this and that.
Well, to me, I would not sign Devontae Adams if I were the Tennessee Titans.
At this stage in Devontae Adams career, he isn't the player that he once was, even if he's still a good player.
Not only that, but the Tennessee Titans paid $90 million to Calvin
Ridley, who's going to be 30 years old this season. The Titans don't need to get older
and more expensive at wide receivers. So Devontae Adams alone coming to the Tennessee Titans,
I don't think it makes much sense. The Titans need to draft and develop and start adding
some young explosive wide
receivers to this team that they have not had in such a long time.
With that being said, the Devante Adams and Aaron Rogers want to play together.
They're tied at the hip.
It's been reported in multiple places.
Devante Adams and Aaron Rogers want to play together one more year.
So if Devontae Adams and Aaron Rogers are a package duo and are willing to take less
money to make sure that they get to play together, then the Tennessee Titans are the perfect place
to do that a month ago
When it was announced, hey the Jets probably are getting rid of Aaron Rodgers
I said then I think that is the perfect fit for the Titans. It was Rodgers and Derek Carr
That were my perfect fits for the Titans
Here's why?
Aaron Rodgers not going to break the bank like Sam
Donald would so you're able to win games in the short term
and be more competitive.
I don't think the Titans are going to have a winning record.
I don't think the Titans are going to be incredible next year
if they get Aaron Rodgers, but there is no quarterback that
I think would do that for the Titans.
Cam Ward isn't going to lead the Titans to some crazy record. Sam. Donald is't going to lead the Titans to some crazy record.
Sam Darnold is it going to lead the Titans to some crazy record? This roster has a while
to go. So don't tell me that Aaron Rogers can't win just as many games as Cam Ward or
Sam Darnold with the Titans. There's not an astronomical difference in the amount of wins.
Either way, all three of those guys give the Titans a chance to win more
games next year, but it's not going to be the Titans or contenders
with any of those guys.
They have so many other needs.
So you bring in Aaron Rogers who gives you a more competitive floor as a
quarterback and helps you be more competitive.
He helps you be far more interesting as a franchise, which is absolutely
something the owner thinks about.
And it prevents you from needing to do something crazy in the short term,
like pass on a great trade offer in the draft and draft a quarterback, or give
Sam Donald a three year, you know, $90 million contract.
I would take a one year, $15 million deal with Aaron Rodgers.
Way before I would take a three year, $90 million deal for Sam Donald.
It's not even close.
I'm not telling you that Aaron Rogers is still a great player.
I am not here to sell to you that Aaron Rogers is going to change this team's fortunes.
That's not what I'm selling.
That's not what I'm trying to accomplish.
I want a bridge quarterback who could play for one season, who can help you evaluate Brian Callahan and how good Brian Callahan is
that doesn't commit future money to anything you don't want to.
And look, if you want to draft cam more, if you want to trade down and maybe
draft Chaudhry Sanders, if you're somebody who wants a quarterback in the draft,
this move doesn't change anything.
Bring in Aaron Rod and Devontae Adams
for one year. Draft a quarterback number one overall. You have your current
quarterback and then you have your future quarterback. And it's the Alex Smith,
Patrick Mahomes. It's the Aaron Rogers, Jordan Love all over again. Mike Borganzi,
Chad Brinker. Where'd they come from? Kansas city, green Bay.
Are you putting it all together?
And here's my thing right now.
The prevailing thought is that the New York giants will bring in
Devante Adams and Aaron Rogers and trade up to draft cam ward.
Well, what I would say to you is this.
Why would that be a bad idea for the Titans? If that's what the the Giants are trying to accomplish right now, why
would that be a bad move for the Titans? Again, you get
financial flexibility because you're not committing 90 million
dollars to Sam Darnall. You get a higher floor at the quarterback position because Aaron
Rogers right now is way better than Will Levis is way better than Justin
Fields or Mac Jones or Jamis Winston. Aaron Rogers is better than all those
people. And then you bring in Devonte Adams too, to pair with Calvin Ridley,
you get to be more interesting, you get to win more games this year,
and you get to make sure that you don't make any future decisions
that would harm you, whether that's paying Sam Donald,
or drafting a quarterback you don't want.
And if you do want the quarterback, then you get a bridge quarterback in Rodgers
for one year with Devonte Adams Adams and you get the quarterback.
And then next year, when Aaron Rogers retires, you have Calvin Ridley.
And maybe you bring Devontae Adams back.
You had a rookie wide receiver into that.
And now you have a group that can support cam ward as he becomes the starter.
So whether you want quarterback in the draft or you don't, Aaron Rogers
still makes more sense than any other veteran quarterback. And as a matter of fact,
according to Matthew Berry, who does his 25 combine rumors, Matthew Berry's, some of them
have hit in recent years. He's been right on about some things. Well, he said that right now, Aaron Rogers, second
preferred option is the Tennessee Titans. It's the New York Giants and then the
Tennessee Titans. So if Rogers is interested and it obviously makes sense
and he can bring Adams with him, why would the Titans not do that for one
year? Give Adams $15 million. Give Rogers $15 million for one season.
Draft your quarterback of the future.
Do all of it.
Why not?
Why not?
I think it would be a great idea because honestly,
outside of that, there aren't any free agent wide receivers I'm interested in.

Titans fans. Let's continue today's edition of the locked on Titans podcast. We talked about Aaron Rogers and Devontae Adams coming as a duo to Tennessee.
Why I think it makes sense and why there are a little bit of breadcrumbs that
could point us that direction.
But now I want to get into another part of my free agency preview.
We're going to talk wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs.
I want to start with wide receivers because one thing that is just a reality
about this free agency period, especially on offense,
is it's just not a good free agent class.
Like it is significantly worse than last year's free agent class,
especially when it comes to skill positions on offense from the Titans perspective.
Maybe if you're a different team and a different situation, it would be better.
But for the Titans, not good, not what you want in free agency.
So let's look at wide receiver.
So we talked about Devonte Adams and I think Devonte Adams is looking at.
Fifteen to 13 million dollars.
15 to 20, I'll say 15 to 20 is where I think Adams is going to be.
But there are other wide receivers who I would say are in Devontae Adams
class who will probably be around a similar place.
Stephon Diggs, Keenan Allen, Chris Godwin, DeAndre Hopkins.
These guys aren't the same, but they're older guys.
Robert Woods, Brandon Cooks.
Like I guess at the end of the day, I talked about Devontae Adams separately.
And I would take Devontae Adams if it meant him and Rogers are both
coming to Tennessee for a season.
But outside of that scenario, Devontae Adams by himself, why would the Titans do that?
I explained that earlier and that philosophy and that line of thinking
can be applied to Stefan Diggs. Why would
the Titans pay Stefan Diggs off an ACL tear in his 30s? Why would they do that? Keenan Allen, same thing.
Chris Godwin, he's probably going back to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That's, I think that's a
done deal personally. But Chris Godwin is coming off major injuries. He's an older wide receiver.
Um, but Chris Godwin is coming off major injuries. He's an older wide receiver.
Why would they do that? Again, you're already paying Calvin Ridley, a 30 year old wide receiver. You gave him a $90 million contract last year that he's going to be on your team for at least three
seasons. This team does not need to get older and more expensive anywhere on the roster, really
outside of quarterback because you need a bridge, but outside of quarterback, this team does not need to get older
and more expensive anywhere, literally anyway, and wide receiver chief among
those positions, the Titans desperately need to take serious capital and invest
it in the wide receiver position.
They have no young explosive wide receivers. Don't tell me Traylen Burks. I don't want to hear
Traylen Burks' name ever again, quite frankly, in regards to the Titans. I said
it last offseason with Traylen Burks. He is a ghost from here on out and at this
point he's not even a ghost anymore. He's just gone out of the picture. Don't want
to hear about Traylen Burks. Get rid of him. It's over.
I'm tired of it.
But outside of that, where is it?
NWI and Tyler Boyd are both free agents.
You have Jaquan Jackson.
Colton Dallas still under contract, but obviously coming back from the injury last year
that never really bounced back from.
Got an undrafted free agent guy like Bryce Oliver, you know, but what are we talking about here?
What are we talking about here?
The Titans have no wide receivers at all.
Okay.
And they don't need to add them with this group of older past their prime, expensive wide receivers who still think they deserve a bunch of money, even though they're past their prime. You don't want to do that.
So outside of those names, you go to the secondary name. And for me, if the Titans are going to bring in a free agent wide receiver,
I'd like them to bring in somebody who could potentially return kicks, somebody who has speed and somebody
who isn't past about 28 years old.
Get a guy who can add explosiveness to your offense has versatility
to do different things on the roster.
But also is it an older player who is going to be expensive and
who fits that more to me
Elijah Moore from the Browns, Rondale Moore from the Cardinals,
Tutu Atwell from the Rams, and Ola Mata Zacchaeus who played for Washington last year. Now Ola Mata
Zacchaeus is my favorite option out of those.
He could play inside, he could play outside. He's done a little bit of kick return.
He's been a productive player for years. Yeah, he's not an all-star player catching
a million balls with 100 yards, but he's just a nice productive 300 to 500 yards,
30 to 50 catch guy who can play inside outside consummate professional help in the
return game, like he's going to add some speed as well.
I think Olameda Zaccheaus would be a, and I wanted him last year for the Tennessee
Titans.
Now here's the thing.
I don't typically like smaller wide receivers in the draft.
If I'm giving up high draft capital on day two, a third or a second round pick for 150, 160 pound wide receiver, like a Tess Johnson, I didn't want Josh Downs.
I didn't want Tank Del either. Why? Because those guys always get hurt. Look at a Kyle Phillips.
You're smaller. You're playing in a big man sport, but if you're getting a guy for it, less than
$5 million Elijah Moore, Ron down more to two at well, Ola made us a chaos.
I think they make sense.
Now, if the Titans want to go with a bigger wide receiver, who's similar in
terms of, he's not past 28 years old.
He's not going to break the bank.
Like, you know, digs and Allen and Adams and Godwin and all that.
If you want to go with someone a little bigger than the Moors at well and
Zacchaeuses of the world, then I think a guy like Dianne Brown from Washington,
who could be had, I think probably six to $8 million.
Dianne Brown could be a guy who could play on the outside across from Calvin Ridley.
I don't think he's a true X though.
I think that Brown is more of a Z wide receiver.
So maybe the Titans wouldn't be interested there.
Josh Palmer from the Los Angeles chargers.
I think he ultimately returns to the chargers, but Palmer is a very good player.
Palmer is a perfect example of a guy who is not a star. He's not a pro bowler
He's not going to make waves your casual fan
Maybe doesn't know about josh palmer, but he's just a solid player who's productive
And would be helpful to a titans offense that likely can't fix the wide receiver position this year
They're probably going to focus on o line defensive line
And not really give too much. Now, if they go out and draft Travis Hunter, I think you might need to play him at wide receiver.
Travis Hunter, Calvin Ridley, bring back NWI.
It's not terrible.
With that being said though, with all these names that we've discussed,
I want to see the Titans bring back Nick Westbrook and Kene.
Three years, 18 to $20 million, 12 million guaranteed, guaranteed two
seasons of six to $7 million a year for him and bring him back.
My official prediction, NWI back with the Titans three years, $20 million.
Two of those years guaranteed.
That's what I think happens.
You do that.
Maybe you bring back Tyler Boyd just as insurance in the slot.
And now if you had Ola made as a case, NWI Tyler Boyd, Calvin Ridley, you had a drafted wide receiver to that.
And then you bring Bryce Oliver back in the fold that six wide receivers.
You can go into next season
with. And that would make sense to me. But with that being said, we got to talk about
tight end. We got to talk about running back because the reality for me is I don't want
anyone at either of those position groups. I'm going to be back.
Titans fans. Let's cap off today's edition of the locked on Titans podcast. We talked about Davante Adams and Aaron Rogers potentially coming as a duo to Tennessee.
Not likely, but I think it makes a ton of sense for the Titans, quite honestly, and I think it solves every issue for the off season that they possibly can.
No to a ton of wide receivers, but there's a mid-tier group of receivers that I am interested in, but let's talk about the last two
skill positions and we're going to get the offensive line here later in the
week and get the defense later in the week as well.
So make sure that you don't miss that obviously offensive line.
Very, very important for the Tennessee Titans.
But when you look at the running back position, you have Tajay spears,
you have Tony Pollard.
I think the Titans do need to add a running back to that group.
Someone with a different skill set and body type.
They need to get a bigger, stronger, more powerful running back that
can run on short yardage goal line.
I don't think that Tony Pollard can keep up with the amount of
carries that he got last year.
And Tajay Spears got hurt last year.
There were injury concerns with Spears coming out of the draft.
Is he going to be able to stay healthy so that he can adequately spell Tony?
Tony Pollard can not carry the ball as many times as he did last year.
He started breaking down at the end of the year.
Tony Pollard is not a bell cow running back.
Tony Pollard is a lead running back in a committee.
And if you can't have a strong committee because the other guy in that committee
is always hurt and then it results in Tony Pollard getting hurt as well.
Well, that's a disaster wedding to happen.
So I think the Titans need to be serious about their third
running back this year, but that shouldn't come from free agency.
Look, uh, Aaron Jones, Raheem Moster, Najee Harris, Nick Chubb, Javante Williams, Alexander Madison,
Rico Daddle, J.K. Dobbins.
None of those guys fit in my opinion. Either they're going to be more
expensive than the Titans should be paying because they're going to get
Tony Pollard money like Aaron Jones or Raheem Moster or Najee Harris.
They're going to get paid more than Tony Pollard got last year.
I'm not paying two running backs, Tony Pollard money.
No way.
Not a chance.
So you look at the second tier of guys who I think stylistically would fit
AJ Dillon, D Ernest Johnson, maybe a Samajay Perrine, older guy, but
versatile.
Trey Sermon, bigger body back.
Maybe you give him a shot after kind of having a rough start to his career.
Either way out of all these names, my point remains, this is an elite and all time running
back class in the draft and all time running back class in the draft and all time running back
class in the draft with the debt that's in there, there might be 20 to 25
running backs that get selected.
Take one, take one, take one on day three, take a running back in the fourth
or fifth round that has a bigger body frame and a more powerful skill set than
Tajay Spears or Tony Pollard. If you had Tony Pollard as your
lead back, Tajay Spears is your speed switch up guy and then
a physical back. Like I continue to say like Ollie Gordon out
of Oklahoma State, probably going to be a day three pick in
the NFL draft over six foot tall, over 200 pounds and a powerback.
Maybe it's not Ollie Gordon exactly, but there are a ton of running backs
in this draft class that are fast, that are over 200 pounds.
Like there are numerous running backs in this draft class that fit the bill
of what I'm describing at running back as a third running back within this committee.
There's just no need to pay $4 million for AJ Dillon or $3 million for Deonors Johnson or pay less than a million dollars for a sixth round running back.
It's a great year to do that. So the Titans need to draft running back, not sign running back.
And quite honestly, I feel the same about tight end.
But my point here is you have Josh Wiley, you have Chigga Conquo.
You roster, you rostered five tight ends last year with DMR and
Thomas O'Doukoye barely getting on the field.
DMR, David Martin Robinson and Thomas O'Douoye barely getting on the field. DMR, David Martin Robinson and Thomas Odequoye were on the roster,
but inactive more weeks than they weren't last year.
You can't have that again.
The reason that you kept those guys on the roster,
even though they weren't going to be active on game day,
and you basically wasted a roster spot on those guys all year long,
the reason you did that is to develop them active on game day and you basically wasted a roster spot on those guys all year long.
The reason you did that is to develop them so that they would be ready this year.
So Tyler Conklin, Jawan Johnson, Gerald Everett, Zach Ertz, none of those guys
fit what the Titans need.
The Titans need a big physical blocking tight end.
That's what they...
So for me, a veteran minimum for CJ Uzama, for Chris Manhurst from the Giants,
who's a great physical blocker.
Jack Stoll from the Eagles.
Luke Farrell from the Jags.
Maybe you bring back Nick Van Et.
If the Titans want to add a tight end.
And again, this is a great, I repeat, a great tight end class in the draft.
If you want to add a tight end, if you think you need to add a tight end
to this group that you've been developing, then do it in the draft
on day three because it's a great draft class. So again, I know it's not exciting, but I don't want I don't really care.
If the Titans didn't sign a single wide receiver or a single tight end
or a single running back of note, I would be perfectly fine with that.
They'll probably add some depth, but I just don't see the Titans making
a big splash any of these positions.
But again, free agency right around the corner, rumors heating up.
We're going to talk about all of it tomorrow,
probably diving to the offensive line,
and then we got defense to cap off the week.
But that's going to do it for me today, folks.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland,
and this was Locked on Titans.
