Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans NIGHTMARE LOSS as Cam Ward COLLAPSES AGAIN vs New York Giants & Robert Saleh Issues

Episode Date: September 27, 2026

The Tennessee Titans just experienced a nightmare loss highlighted by the poor performance of Cam Ward. Ward was a disaster and it was a game that should haunt Titans fan dreams. Add in the special te...ams mistakes, coaching errors and drops, it makes for an all-too-familiar disgrace for Titans fans. The defense will get blame, but realistically they did the best they could with the offense completely falling apart. However, Robert Saleh led the defense much better than the team because the game management was awful and that has been a theme early this year. This realization makes things even more worrisome as the Titans truly cannot make more changes this offseason. They must have patience and we can only hope the patience is worth it. LOCKED ON TITANS EVERYDAY CLUB: https://lockedontitans.supercast.com/ Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitans TicTacTitans Merchandise: https://dixons-dream.square.site/product/tic-tac-titans-polo/255?cp=true&sa=true&sbp=false&q=false Follow Tyler on Twitter @TicTacTitans Follow the show on Facebook @LockedOnTitansPod Subscribe to the Locked On Titans YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@LockedOnTitans Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!HomeChefFor a limited time, Home Chef is offering my listeners FIFTY PERCENT OFF and free shipping for your first box PLUS free dessert for life! Starting point is 00:00:00 Cam Ward completely choked in the Tennessee Titans, nightmare loss to the New York Giants. We're going to break it down on today's edition of Locked on Titans. You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day. Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast. I am your host, Tyler Roland Titans fans on today's show. break down that absolute nightmare of a loss by the Tennessee Titans, 12 to 7 to the New York Giants. We are absolutely in the dark ages of Tennessee Titans football folks. And that game was absolutely proof. The defense played very well. It wasn't really their fault. But boy,
Starting point is 00:00:54 I have some long-term concerns about Robert Sala coming out of that. Nonetheless, and the offense led by Cam Ward with an absolute choke job of a a performance, a mirage performance at the end of the game to make us think, oh, maybe Cam's getting back into it. Maybe Cam's finding some rhythm. Maybe Cam's going to come up clutch and he throws one of the most brain dead interceptions I have ever seen. I mean, literally, I am in the trenches right now having flashbacks of Nam of Will Levis, Jake Locker doing just absolutely moronic stuff. And it's like, yeah, Cam had a couple of good drives there at the end to get them down the field. but the bad plays that he made in the first half,
Starting point is 00:01:37 the bad plays he made out of halftime, the bad play that he made at the end. He should have had another interception earlier in the game that he threw right to a guy. He's throwing balls to Cornell Tate that are all the way out of bounds. Even the catches that are made. Some of these slant routes that he's throwing, he needs to throw it in front of the wide receiver,
Starting point is 00:01:54 like on the Calvin Ridley one. Calvin Ridley dropped in. Everybody's say, oh, it's a drop by the wide receiver. But Cam is throwing to the back hip of a wide receiver on a slant when if he threw it to the front shoulder like you're supposed to, Calvin Ridley can catch it, not only get the first down, but pick it up and run even more. It's like even the completions are often in a terrible spot.
Starting point is 00:02:15 And you guys, not all you guys, but a lot of people like to say, well, it hit his hands, he should catch it. Like the Elykeyeomaner passed last week in the end zone. That is a despicable pass. If your buddy threw you that pass in backyard football, you would tell him that he sucks, you would razz him for it. But since it's Cam Ward and you don't want to lose hope,
Starting point is 00:02:33 in the franchise and you don't want to feel those negative feelings. You want to say, oh, Eleg, he got two hands on and he's got to catch it. Ball placement is everything in the NFL. Tom Brady isn't the best quarterback of all time, simply because he got it to the wide receiver's hands. No, you have to put it in the right spot in the NFL. You have to put the ball in the correct place, not just get it to the receiver.
Starting point is 00:02:54 And Cam rarely ever is even close to getting it. And he's late. He's not. Shout out to Ron Davenport from ESPN, who I think is by far the best beat reporter that the Titans have. Tehran is going to call it as he sees it. He's not a hate or anything, and he's pointing out because he's watching the full field at the game.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Hey, Cam Ward had Calvin Ridley down the field. I don't know why he checked it down so quick to Tony Pollard. Oh, Cam Ward had a guy here. We can talk about the run game, the O line, wide receivers drop and passes. You know what's a much bigger problem for the Titans' offense than wide receivers drop and passes? The quarterback.
Starting point is 00:03:33 The quarterback. Cam is not playing good football. It's not all his fault, but he is not absolved of blame because Wondale Robinson dropped a five-yard out and Calvin Ridley dropped a slant that's behind him. That is not, well, hey, those two plays happen. Now we can't blame Tam Ward at all.
Starting point is 00:03:52 Now it's not his fault at all. Guys, I did this same thing. My very first season ever covering this team, I was willing to criticize Marcus Mariotta. it's not good enough. He's not hitting easy throws. He's not seeing it clearly. And I'm going to criticize Cam here too.
Starting point is 00:04:10 It doesn't mean that the rest of the offense is doing well because of the rest of the offense is an absolute disaster. Again, this was a nightmare performance that finishes the Titan season. They're 0 and 3 now. They lost to the Jets in Week 1 who were 1 and 2 now. Everybody's like, oh, are the Jets actually good? The Jets aren't, the Jets are better this year, but they're not good. It's not like the Jets are going to the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:04:32 or something like that. So they look like an absolute disgrace there. They find a way to bow up and have a decent performance and still lose against Philly. And then they come out here and look like this. And again, those two drives at the end of the game aren't going to make me forget what this offense and what Cammore did throughout the majority of this game.
Starting point is 00:04:52 And the finish of this game was a deadly reminder of, hey, if you forgot how bad your quarterback's been for the first through three weeks, here's a reminder so that you don't get too high off. this. Like immediately, he could have ran. Cam could have just kept the ball and ran forward instead of trying to throw cross-body falling back, lob it over Javon Holland, who's one of the best safeties in the league who, if you go back, I wanted the Titans desperately to sign Javan Holland in free agency two years ago. But that's a point for another day. Even such,
Starting point is 00:05:25 what a brain dead decision. And the inaccuracy, like the Titans' offense is rough. And why receivers have dropped some passes and they aren't always consistent in the run game and Brian Dables play calling driving me up the wall sometimes. But I'll be honest with you, when I go back and watch on tape and I see Cam Ward miss open receivers throw bad passes that aren't even close. I mean, think about those ones on the sideline where he's just not even given Carnell Tate a chance to make a play. It's just not even close.
Starting point is 00:05:59 and I haven't even brought up yet. I haven't even mentioned yet the missed of Carnell Tate that should have been a touchdown two drives before that. The drive before the first touchdown, the Titans should have won the game if Cam Ward can complete a simple wide open
Starting point is 00:06:18 pass to Carnell Tate five feet in front of him. Cornell Tate is literally wide open in the end zone running right with Cam five yards in front of him. Here I am and Cam sails it. Not even close. Not even close. The Titans should have won that game multiple times, over and over. But Cam just can't do it right now.
Starting point is 00:06:41 And I know the conversation is immediately going to be, they got a bench Cam Ward, they got a bench Cam Ward. I know I'm going to see it in the comments. I know it's going to be the conversation. Do you bench Cam Ward? I will continue to say, no, you do not bench Cam Ward. If he's going to be this bad all year long, then you let him be this bat all year long
Starting point is 00:07:01 and see where it takes you. And in the off season, go get a veteran quarterback. Let him and Cam Ward compete like you did with Marcus and Tannahill, like you see with Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy. You go do that.
Starting point is 00:07:16 If Cam Ward can't beat out that veteran, then he's the backup and he's probably done forever. If he does beat out the veteran, you give Cam Ward year three. And if he's not good enough in year three, then you're okay to draft another quarterback and let him go. But, you know, I don't want to see Cam Ward on the bench. But I can tell you this.
Starting point is 00:07:38 I can sit here and tell you you do not bench Cam Ward because I'm thinking about the Tennessee Titans long term. I'm thinking about, hey, if Cam Ward is terrible, then you got to keep him in and make sure that you don't get any bad wins from Mitch Trubisky so that you don't ruin your chance at Jeremiah Smith or Colin Simmons. or Leonard Moore, whatever.
Starting point is 00:08:01 I don't want those cheap wins for Mitch Trubisky. But you know who does need those cheap wins for Mitch Trubisky? Robert Salah, Brian Daible, and Mike Borgesi. They're going to get fired eventually if they don't win games. And listen, we'll talk at the end. Things aren't going to change from a big picture standpoint anytime soon, folks. Again, we'll talk about, that's my final segment. It's talking about the big picture.
Starting point is 00:08:26 But if you're Brian Daibel, if you're Robert Sala, you can't worry about the Tennessee Titans big picture three years from now. Your job, and I don't even blame them for this, their job as coaches is to worry about winning the next game. And what we're seeing from Cam Ward on a consistent basis for 80% of the drives this year,
Starting point is 00:08:52 75% of the drives, there were a couple of good drives against Philadelphia where Cam looked good, and there were a couple of good drives in this game to day. But for the most part, this offense and this operation is a complete zero. And at some point, you have to change something. So I do not want to see Cam Ward be benched. I think that would be a bad idea for the Tennessee Titans future. But I'll be honest with you. If Brian Daible wants to do that, you know, he's got to win games right now. That's his job.
Starting point is 00:09:25 And I can't really blame him if they're considering it. But man, again, that's why this is such a nightmare loss, guys. Cam looked terrible. The offense was despicably bad, unwatchable. This team is unwatchable at times. Just ruining the joy of being an NFL fan in every possible way. They fumbled the ball on the first freaking play of the game. What is going on with special teams in Chim DeKan?
Starting point is 00:09:56 And the coaching decisions, the game management, the play calling. Again, we focus on Cam Ward because, hey, that's the friend. anti-s quarterback, and boy, was it scary out there today? But again, everything else is terrible, too. Coaching, wide receivers, special teams. The O-line and the Titans defense are the only thing that you can feel good about right now. But even when I look at Robert Sala calling the defense, I am reminded of, well, yeah, he's doing a good job calling the defense, but boy, he's doing a terrible job of calling
Starting point is 00:10:31 the actual game for the full team. We got some Robert Sala issues that give me long-term concerns. And again, most of that long-term concern comes from the fact that the Tennessee Titans are not going to be able to make any real changes any time soon.

Again, recapping that nightmare of a loss for the Tennessee Titans, Cam Ward looked absolutely terrible for most of the game despite two okay drives, three okay drives, I guess we should say, late in the game,
Starting point is 00:13:46 and his overall performance was so discouraging. But again, he wasn't alone. The special teams was terrible. Once again, the coaching was terrible. Once again, one of the only redeeming things of the game was the Tennessee Titans defense. You cannot blame the Tennessee Titans defense for this game whatsoever. Held the Giants to 12 points.
Starting point is 00:14:05 The Titans made mistakes. They had the fumble at the very beginning of the game. The Titans held down the Giants, generally speaking throughout the game. Now, they gave up some rushing yards, 138 rushing yards on the day, but only 100 team passing yards. Winston had 118 passing yards on the day, 5.4 average, got sacked three times. Like, the Titans defense, if you hold a team to 12 points in the modern NFL,
Starting point is 00:14:32 you should be able to win the game. And not only did the Tennessee Titans defense do their part and hold the Giants to 12 points, but they did it while the offense literally did nothing. The time out of possession, got out of control in the first half again. The Titans' first five drives were three and outs, and the defense is trying to play when they're literally on the field all the time. This is, again, nightmare game for the Titans because it feels like we're just stuck in this same pattern.
Starting point is 00:15:01 It doesn't feel like week three of a new season. It feels like week 40 of a marathon long, decade-long season that will never end. When Game of Thrones talked about winter and how winter would be like years long, 15 years long, the Titans are in a Game of Thrones winter right now. It's not like a season of four or five months. No, these winters last years and years. Again, I'm going to talk at the end of show how we're in the dark ages here, but seeing the Tennessee Titans defense do a good job,
Starting point is 00:15:33 but eventually start to wither a little bit at the end against the run, but ultimately only allowed 12 points and really check their box. But the Titans' offense to be so lifeless, so terrible, so disastrously bad, no matter who the coaches, who the quarterback is, who's on the O-line. The O-line played great. The O-line played great in this game. They weren't great in run-blocking. I will tell you that.
Starting point is 00:15:57 They were okay in run-blocking. I mean, Tony Pollard average 4.4 yards per carry. Wasn't a good game for Tage, but he's not a physical. back anyway. The Titans really have a running back issue right now in my opinion. But again, this same pattern of Titans offense is a disgrace. Titans offense can't do anything. Defense has to be out there all the time. Defense actually does a good job. Defense's good job is wasted because the offense continues to do a terrible job. Titans lose because the offense is so pitifully, pathetic. It never ends. It has been this way. I mean, I have been a Titans fan now for
Starting point is 00:16:36 27 years, well, 1999, yeah, I'm not good at math, but 27 years, going on 28 years when we switch calendars. And how many of those seasons of being a Titans fan have we seen this same pattern of the defense does a pretty decent job? They're not great, but they're okay. And the Titans offense is just an absolute disgrace. Like, it just never, never ends. And you know what? even though Robert Sala is doing a good job with the defense, even in that excitement that the defense did a good job, you did it against James Winston, who was absolutely terrible in this game. The weather was terrible, which helped the defense as well.
Starting point is 00:17:17 And Robert Sala is a terrible head coach through the first three weeks. He has been an awful head coach when it comes to managing the team. So in week one, he had all the team. those cowardly punts when the Titans were losing, it was fourth and five, fourth and six, they're at, you know, 50 yard line, they're across the 50 yard line. It's the second half. You're down double digits and he's punting. Terrible. The Titans on two plays in week one, two plays against the Jets. Remember the one in the Red Zone that everybody talked about? Two plays against the Jets. The Titans had 13 guys on the field, not even 12. They had 13, totally wrong packages in and had to call
Starting point is 00:17:59 timeout. Then you get to this game. Before halftime, and this is debatable, this is debatable, but before halftime, right before the two-minute warning, Robert Sala literally let 50-some seconds run off the clock without using one of his timeouts. Just let 50 seconds go off the clock. Now, he could have been intentionally doing that because he's worried about the offense being terrible and giving the ball right back to the Giants. That's a theory. But nonetheless, he let like 50 seconds run off the clock there. And then during the offensive drive, when the Titans got the ball back,
Starting point is 00:18:33 he let like five or six seconds run off the clock from 136, 137 down to 131, 130. Just let him roll off the clock before he called timeout. During the second half, the Titans had to call timeout because they had 10 men on the field on a crucial play in the fourth quarter
Starting point is 00:18:51 when they were down in the fourth quarter of a game where they would probably need those timeouts. Robert Sala seems to be so concerned, and this is the problem with a play calling head coach. These are the ups and downs. He's so concerned with calling the plays on defense that he's making very bad game management decisions as a head coach. Now, as a defensive coordinator,
Starting point is 00:19:14 he's done his job pretty decently so far this year. The Titans gave the Eagles fits as long as they could. Against the Jets, things weren't great, but I again think that the offense was a much bigger problem. I think the offense is a significantly bigger problem in this nightmare game. But Robert Salah's game management, and then if you want to look at Brian Dable, Brian Dable's play calling on offense, I don't think that like the plays are terrible, but just leaning on the run, being so conservative. And then the argument becomes if Cam Ward is playing that bad, and Cam Ward can't complete an easy slant on the right shoulder of his wide receiver to pick up an easy first down and literally even the
Starting point is 00:19:54 basic, most basic throws that you can throw in a football game. Cam Ward can't hit him. And you're looking at Brian Dable, say, be more aggressive. Why are you calling play so scared? Well, he's probably scared of Cam because Cam has just been awful. So I don't really know how to feel about that right now. Brian Dable has to be more aggressive on offense. But I understand that he's scared to do it with the way that Cam Ward is playing.
Starting point is 00:20:21 And Robert Salas being Uber conservative with all of his games. management decisions, but it's because he's scared a Cam Ward too. But at the end of the day, like the Titans with Marcus Marriota, before they ultimately went to Ryan Tannahill. You cannot play football and win games if the entire coaching staff and team is scared of the quarterback messing up. You can't win like that. But the problem for the Titans is,
Starting point is 00:20:44 there ain't no Ryan Tannehill on this team. And Mitch Trubisky certainly ain't that. And that's why partly there's more to it, But we are in the absolute dark ages, folks. Like, this is 100% the worst era of Tennessee Titans football ever. The season is over. We know looking at this team, and that's why I called this a must win. This was a must win game because there's no way that this football team
Starting point is 00:21:11 that played the way it played today is going to turn and go on like some wind street. Again, this is the absolute dark ages of Tennessee Titans football. David Harrison here at the Lockdown Commanders podcast. talk about butcher box. I'm someone who's always trying to make sure I'm getting enough protein. Again, butcherbox.com slash locked on NFL. Make sure you use our link so they know we sent you. Fans, let's cap off today's edition of the Lock On Titans podcast. Again, this is an absolute nightmare of a loss.
Starting point is 00:22:48 Not only did the Titans lose, ruining the season, dropping them to 0 and 3, keeping the vibes in the absolute toilet, but Cam Ward choked at the end, looked terrible for most of the game. I mean, the coaching is an absolute disgrace right now with game management and conservative play calling. Nothing looks good, and that's really the biggest issue. What are we going to change? what are the Titans going to change?
Starting point is 00:23:14 They can't fire Robert Sala after this. They can't get rid of Cam Ward. What are they going to do, draft another quarterback? What's that going to do? If Brian Dable and Robert Sala are bad coaches and Mike Borgonzi's a bad GM, I had a couple of people say, oh, they got a clean house after the year.
Starting point is 00:23:37 They got a clean house. You can say that, and maybe that would be the right decision. I don't know, but they aren't going to do that. Amy Adams-Strawn was just criticized for years and years and years about how quick triggered she is. She fired Mike Brable too fast. She fired John Robinson too fast. She fired Rand Carton and fired Brian Callaghan and blah, blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 00:24:01 She's quick triggered. She's impulsive. She fires everybody too fast. And then fire Mike Borgonzi after two years, fire Robert Saul after one year and get rid of Cam Ward after two years. That is impulsive, quick trigger. And so whether it would be the right decision or the wrong decision, I am not saying it would be right or wrong.
Starting point is 00:24:20 I am telling you it ain't going to happen. Mike Borgonzi will be the general manager next year. Robert Salo will be the head coach next year, and Cam Ward will be the quarterback next year. They will all still be on this team and with this organization next year. It's week three of a long season. They don't have any, there's nothing to change. You're not going to fire Brian Daible.
Starting point is 00:24:45 They're not going to fire Brian Daible. That's not going to happen. They aren't going to fire Robert Salah in the middle of the season. They aren't going to fire Mike Borganzi in the middle of the season. There's no, you know, big, oh, we're going to give this guy more opportunity. We're going to run Taj Spears more. We're going to throw more to none of that matters. literally the only change,
Starting point is 00:25:14 the only possible big time change the Titans could make right now is to bench Cam Ward. And even if they do that, I don't think that's going to get them anywhere. And then next year, it would be like I talked about earlier, they would go get a better veteran quarterback
Starting point is 00:25:33 than Mitch Trubisky. They would go get Mac Jones or maybe they go get, I don't even know. I don't need who, what other veteran, Gardner meant you. You know what I mean? Maybe they go get Carson Wentz
Starting point is 00:25:48 or these sound like absolute disasters, don't they? Boy, they do. They sound terrible. I'll tell you that. But they'll go get that. And now I've can't compete with that guy. But that'll be the plan going into next year. They're not going to draft a quarterback at the top of the draft again.
Starting point is 00:26:06 They're not going to do that. I just cannot believe it. I just cannot believe that they would do it. And then, although I will say Arch Manning has been compared to Daniel Jones and Brian Dable drafted Daniel Jones. So just throwing that out there. But it's like, when's the end at the end of the tunnel? Where's the light?
Starting point is 00:26:27 Like right now, we just started. It's week three of Robert Sala and the team isn't going to make us happy. Whatever you think is a good season for this Titans team, whether you thought it was 10 wins, whether you thought it was playoffs, whether you thought it was six wins like me, whether you thought it was four wins, five wins, they're going to disappoint you. And this is why I called week one against the Jets, a must win.
Starting point is 00:26:55 This is why I said, hey, they got a second shot in a must win game right here. You know why I said those things? Because it's not just, hey, well, they're only 0 and 3. Technically, they could win every game on the rest of their schedule. It's not a must win because mathematically they're not a limit. It's not a must win. Football is not played in a calculator. This isn't matter.
Starting point is 00:27:18 This team that we just saw look this way against the Jets, that offensive performance, the way Cam Ward looked so far this season, the way they played against the Jets, that football team is not going to all of a sudden flip it around
Starting point is 00:27:32 and go on this huge run and beat a bunch of people. Like, it's not just that they lost. It's the way that they are losing the way the football looks. The football is a disgrace. So if Robert Saul is a terrible coach, Mike Borgonzi is mid
Starting point is 00:27:53 or worse at General Manager, Cam Ward is bad. If all of that's true, well, we're going to be stuck with all of them, not only for the rest of this season, but next season as well. And already, let me throw a stat at you guys. You want some stats?
Starting point is 00:28:11 I get big. on the talking points. And I give you guys my emotion and my raw feelings on the team. But you want some stats, you want some data, take this for data. The Tennessee Titans record from 2022 to 2025, so starting to this year, was 19 and 49. So 19 and 52 now since the start of 2020, 19 and 52 since the start of 2020. that is by far worse than 2012 to 2015 when the Titans were 18 and 46. This is the, I think it was David Clark on Twitter who said that.
Starting point is 00:28:56 The worst, four-year stretch of Tennessee Titans football since they moved to Nashville. Since they moved to Tennessee, the worst. This has been the worst stretch of performance that I, and with the coaching changes, the GM changes, Rand Carthorn and Brian Callahan are some of the worst collect general manager and head coach.
Starting point is 00:29:20 Brian Callahan is the second worst head coach in the last 15 years in the NFL, right in front of Urban Meyer, and that is it. Rand Carthon may be the worst general manager in the NFL in the past decade. And now we're still believe in Cam Ward and think that he can get out of this funk. And I, again, I would not bench Cam Ward. I would keep playing Cam Ward all year long and see what happens. I think he can play better than this. But right now it's looking like a massive bust, first overall pick.
Starting point is 00:29:57 How can Brian Daibald do what he did last year with Jackson Dart? And then this is what the Titans' offense looks like. When the Titans' offensive line has been good, the Titans offensive line has been good in all three games. And the offense is still pitiful and pathetic. it. Even though Jackson DART and Brian Dable looked incredible last year and put up 20, 30 points every week,
Starting point is 00:30:20 I just don't understand. Are we cursed? I just don't get it, man. Every move we make is just dumb. Like, yeah, I see it. Scam ward. It's everywhere. I don't know what else to say, man. It's rough. It's rough.
Starting point is 00:30:39 Whether it be this nightmare performance, special teams coaching, Cam Ward, the offense overall, whether it be the years and years of disgraceful, disgusting losses, the worst stretch of Titans football in the history of the Tennessee Titans,
Starting point is 00:30:55 whether it be the lack of hope going forward with Camac quarterback, Sala, head coach, Borganzi, a general manager, you know, there have been worse games, there have been worse losses, but this has got to be one of the lowest low points in Tennessee Titans.
Starting point is 00:31:11 Titans history. Just an absolute nightmare in New York. But with that being said, the content train rolls on, the season rolls on. Now the Titans got to go to Baltimore. I guess we'll talk Titans football all week. I'll be here with you. And if you want to take it to a deeper level, baby,
