Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans NOT ENOUGH TALENT at Wide Receiver & Desperate DRAFT NEED in First Three Rounds

Episode Date: March 23, 2026

The Tennessee Titans signed Wan'Dale Robinson and brought back Calvin Ridley so far this offseason, but wide receiver is still a massive need as the reality is this is still one of the worst groups in... the NFL. Drafting a wide receiver in the first three rounds is an absolute must for the Titans as they need to keep building out the group. That puts the focus on what already exists and while Ridley and Robinson are good, they aren't more than low to mid number two receivers. Elic Ayomanor and Chim Dike also can take steps forward, but it is hard to see either becoming a true dominant alpha receiver like the Titans need. Backend depth like Xavier Restrepo, Bryce Oliver and Mason Kinsey are also guys who should not be factored in too heavily.   LOCKED ON TITANS EVERYDAY CLUB: https://lockedontitans.supercast.com/   Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitans   Everydayer ClubIf you never miss an episode, it’s time to make it official. Starting point is 00:00:00 The Tennessee Titans simply don't have enough talent at wide receiver, and they must attack the position early in the NFL draft. I'll explain on today's edition of Locked on Titans. You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked on Podcast Network, your team every day. Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast. I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans. On today's show, we're going to continue our positional review series and look at the wide receiver position.
Starting point is 00:00:41 And it is obvious that the Titans not only need to draft a wide receiver, but must add one very early on. Before we dive in, do want to thank you for making Locked on Titans. You're at first, listen each and every day. Remember, Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year round, always for free. Make sure that you get subscribed, stay subscribed. It's your team every day. Speaking of Every Day. Shout out to my Everydayers out there.
Starting point is 00:01:05 Tune in Monday through Friday. Couldn't do it without you guys. If you aren't an Everydayer, what are you doing? We're reviewing the entire roster this week on the podcast. Then we are going to dive head first into draft content previewing every single position, getting you guys ready to go for the draft that kicks off on April 23rd. Less than a month away, folks. And before you know it, the Titans will be back out on the practice field as well. So make sure that you stay locked in with the number one.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Tennessee Titans podcast in the world. Locked on Titans. But with that being said, again, as we head quickly to the NFL draft, it is apparent that the Tennessee Titans must attack the position much earlier than they have in recent drafts. They have no excuse this year to not take a wide receiver in at minimum the first three rounds. Like, they absolutely have to take a wide receiver inside the top 100.
Starting point is 00:02:00 I get what they did last year. They didn't have the ability to go after the guys that they wanted, the talent pool that was there when they had their picks wasn't quite where they wanted to attack. So they just threw as many resources that they put on day three at the position. They add Jim Dikey O'Manner and then Gunner Helm at Tide End. We're just going to throw as much as we can on day three and see what sticks. And right now, it looks like all three in some way will be able to stick.
Starting point is 00:02:28 None of them are terrible players. Now, there are question marks, and we'll talk about Elye O' Manor and Chim Dekay later on in the show. But like, they did that plan to try to address the weaponry issue. This year, they need to go get a better talent. They have to spend. Now, first round, I think, unless they trade back in the first round, wide receivers out of the question.
Starting point is 00:02:52 They're not going to take Carnell Tate, Jordan Tyson, Mackay Lemon at number four. If they were able to trade back to 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, I think that wide receiver squarely becomes an option for the Tennessee Titans. That would absolutely make sense if they were able to get a trade back. And you guys know, I haven't been very high on Carnell Tate. And even with the injuries, Jordan Tyson is my number one wide receiver. He is the best wide receiver in the draft, in my opinion, at least as a prospect. But you can't take Jordan Tyson number four with the injuries.
Starting point is 00:03:26 Not going to work out of this pro day. There's reports out there that he suffered a setback to his high. hamstring during his training. You simply cannot take him at number four. I don't think that Carnell Tate is a number one wide receiver in the NFL. I think he's Alec Pierce. He's a mid to high end number two wide receiver at best. I don't even think that he's going to be good enough to be a T. Higgins. Like I don't see Carnal T. Higgins level talent. So I can't, I can't take Carnell Tate at number four.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Mackay Lemon, very good player. But after you just paid Wondale Robinson, after you have Chim Dike, you have Calvin Ridley, a bunch of guys who are probably best in the slot. Now, I think that Chim D.K. And Calvin Ridley can do more, and we'll talk about that here in a second. But just because I think they can do more than just be in the slot, doesn't mean that I don't think that they can't also play in the slot. You know, so that's three guys right there, including Wondale Robinson, who is purely a slot-wide receiver.
Starting point is 00:04:23 You can't take Mackay Lemon at number four. You can't do that. It just, it doesn't make any sense. And if the Titans were interested in Mackay Lemon, I don't think that they would have went and got Wondell Robinson and went and made sure that they got Calvin Ridley back. I don't think that they do that if they were going to take a slot wider. And listen, like Calvin Ridley or Chim DK, McCoy Lemon could probably play some Z. I don't think that McCai Lemon is incapable
Starting point is 00:04:47 of playing on the outside in a Z wide receiver role. But is that where he's going to be his best? Are you getting actual value of taking a guy? Like, they're not going to take McKay Lemon at 4. So if they're not going to take a wide receiver in the first round and they don't trade back, they have no choice. They have to take one, rounds two and round three. Whether that is a Casey Conception, a Denzel Boston,
Starting point is 00:05:12 if Omar Cooper were to fall that far, which I think is absolutely not happening at this point. Chris Brasel, Chris Bell, Skyler Bell, you know, there are somebody, Elijah Serrat, There are so many different guys who could make sense for the Titans in those rounds in that area. And there are more wide receivers who, I'm just forgetting the name off the top of my head, who are going to be a reality for the Tennessee Titans in those rounds. I know some of you guys like a Malachi Fields, not me. You know, Ted Hurst would be another guy. Maybe a Jacoby Lane if they like him that high.
Starting point is 00:05:51 I'm not as high on Lane or Fields personally. but like the point is all of those wide receivers I just mentioned 8, 9 wide receivers right there you gotta get one of those guys you just absolutely have to like there's just not enough talent and maybe those guys don't turn into a number one wide receiver
Starting point is 00:06:12 but maybe they do maybe they do so this is one of these situations where I got to see how the board plays out to necessarily say this with certainty but I do not want the Titans to trade down from 35 this year. I just simply don't want them to do that. There's going to be too much talent on the board.
Starting point is 00:06:33 They have to find a way. They have to find a way to get one of those wide receivers to get one of the top 10, 12 wide receivers in this draft, in the top 100. And again, their third round pick is 66. If the Titans don't take a wide receiver with one of their first three picks, I'm going to be so disappointed. And you should be too.
Starting point is 00:06:54 again, the whole point of this conversation is they do not have enough talent at wide receiver right now. They have not done enough. So even if they take Jeremiah Love who can catch the ball out of the backfield and split out a little bit, he's a running back. He's not a wide receiver. He could do some wide receiver things, but this is like, you know, Chig Oconquo is a tight end. Oh, why don't they put him at wide receiver? Well, because he's not a wide receiver. He could do some wide receiver things, but that doesn't mean that he's a wide receiver. Jeremiah Love is a running back, not a wide receiver.
Starting point is 00:07:30 So just because you add Jeremiah Love number four in the draft, that does not mean that all of a sudden you've done enough at wide receiver. What would be the ideal scenario for the Titans is to take Jeremiah Love at 4 right. That's a weapon around Cam Ward, your support in Cam Ward. He could split out and blah blah blah. And then get a wide receiver at 35 too. A guy like Denzel Boston. A guy like Ted Hurst at 66.
Starting point is 00:07:59 A guy like Casey Conception at 35. Maybe even Chris Bell at 35 with the way that he's progressing. And ACL Ter isn't what it used to be. And all reports indicate that Chris Bell's looking pretty good. Conception had a thing on his knee. He's looking pretty good in videos too. So it's like you have to find a way to get one of these top guys because there's simply not enough talent at wide receiver right now for the Titans
Starting point is 00:08:24 to look at it and say, oh, yeah, we're good. And I don't think that they are going to go out and get Joanne Jennings. I don't think that the Titans are going to go do that in free agency. I don't think that they're going to go get Stefan Diggs or Tyreek Hill or any of these guys. I don't think that's what the Titans want to do. They need to find a way to start adding young players who could potentially be the alpha number one wide receiver for this team. So they have to go out in the draft and get wide receiver in the top three rounds.
Starting point is 00:08:54 Just no doubt about it. But what about the rest of the wide receiver group? Well, I'm going to explain why I think it is so important that the Titans go out and get a wide receiver, not just from a talent standpoint, but based on what they already have because I think what the guys on the roster are capable of is already pretty much set in stone.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought to you by TurboTax. It's tax time, but for a lot of us the old way of doing taxes is a lot. Starting point is 00:10:14 and find a store near you and book your appointment today. Let's continue today's edition of the Locked-on Titans podcast talking about the wide receiver position where it's at right now. And again, the Tennessee Titans simply do not have enough talent at the wide receiver position. They have to add one in the first three rounds of the NFL draft, preferably the second round pick at number 35 where there should be a lot of wide receiver talent left on the board. But either way, the need to get a wide receiver so early is based on the fact that the Titans simply don't have enough talent right now on the roster
Starting point is 00:11:07 and I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that, you know, a lot of these guys simply haven't proven what they are so far and you can't count on it or they have proven what they are so far and you have to count on that and I start with Calvin Ridley. I mentioned it when Calvin Ridley did the pay cut. But why is Calvin Ridley taking a pay cut guys? Why would he be willing to do that? Because he understands where he's at in his career,
Starting point is 00:11:34 right now as well. And he knew that if the Titans were to cut him, he wasn't going to make as much money as he's going to make with the Titans, even with a pay cut as he would on the open market. That's just the truth. And he knows it. We know it. You know it. So, if we all understand that fact, then we can also acknowledge the fact that Calvin Ridley's not a number one wide receiver. He's not going to be able to play the Malik neighbor's role in Brian Dable's offense.
Starting point is 00:12:02 He's not going to be able to be isolated nonstop. Look, he's a guy who you want to play the motion Z so that you can get him in motion, let him use his speed. He's not going to deal well with physicality, especially as he ages. He is a low-end wide receiver 2 at best, a high-end wide receiver 3 at worst. That's where I think Calvin Ridley is.
Starting point is 00:12:26 People saying that he's a wide receiver 4. I think that is just jumping the shark. That's way too over the top for me. Calvin Ridley is still a good player and a starting wide receiver, which I consider three wide receivers as starters. So with that, Calvin Ridley isn't good enough to be like, oh, we brought Calvin Ridley back.
Starting point is 00:12:48 We don't need to draft wide receiver in the first three rounds. That's not it. No, you need a first round, you need a second round, third round wide receiver to go with them. Because again, he's the slot Z guy. You can play in the slot, be a motion Z, low two, high three. That's all you could hope for with Calvin Ridley. Five to 800 yards somewhere would be incredible.
Starting point is 00:13:11 I'm thinking 500, 600 yards, 50 catches, two or three touchdowns. That's a good year for Calvin Ridley. That's what the Titan should expect and what you should expect. And then you look at Wondell Robinson, and again, we can have this conversation. I feel like I've had it already. I've explained it in great detail. Wondale Robinson is not a number one wide receiver. And the way that people talk about number one wide receiver is confusing to me.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Some people say the number one wide receiver like, oh, he'll have the best stats. That's not a number one wide receiver to me. We're talking about a true number one wide receiver. Would you say wide receiver one to me? That just doesn't mean who's the number one wide receiver on the depth chart. I think of a true number one wide receiver. A Justin Jefferson, a Jamar Chase, and A.J. Brown, a CD Lamb, Pooka Nakua, Jackson Smith and Jigba.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Like, that's a number one wide receiver. It doesn't have anything to do with whether they're the best wide receiver on the team, whether they play X, whether they play Z, whether they're 6 foot 2 physical. That's not what I mean. I mean an alpha wide receiver talent. Not every team has a wide receiver 1.
Starting point is 00:14:23 There aren't 32 wide receiver 1s in the NFL for every team to have one. Wondell Robinson ain't that he may be the best wide receiver on the Titans but he's not a wide receiver 1 and we're being real Wondell Robinson
Starting point is 00:14:43 probably a high level wide receiver 3 on a good team like look at the bangles or the Eagles or the Rams like he's a wide receiver 3, low end wide receiver 2 if we're talking about talent buckets in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:15:07 So Wondell Robinson's going to be that low end two, high end three slot guy. So I'm sorry, I'm excited about Calvin Ridley coming back. I'm excited about signing Wondell Robinson because you need those level of players too. You're not going to have three alpha number one wide receivers on one team. That's not how it works. So you need players like that too. but I'm not going to oversell those guys and be like, oh, the Titans don't need
Starting point is 00:15:38 to draft a wide receiver that early because they signed Wondale Robinson and brought Calvin Ridley back. Like, we know who those guys are. They're high-end threes, low-end twos. And I think that Wondale Robinson being a low-end 2 and Calvin Ridley being a high-end 3 with a true number one wide receiver,
Starting point is 00:15:59 like imagine that they were able to get Denzel Boston at 35. Chris Brasel. And maybe he turns into Randy Moss Light, you know? If the Titans had a true alpha number one wide receiver right now, like an actual one, like a Puka Nakua, if they had that, then Calvin Ridley and Wondell Robinson would be slotted perfectly. So, again, the whole point is
Starting point is 00:16:30 the Titans don't have enough talent at wide receiver, we know what Wondell Robinson and Calvin Ridley are at this stage in their career. We know who they are and what their ceiling is. So you can't let their presence deter you from looking at wide receiver as a severe need still. Wide receiver is still a severe top level need for this team. Now you look at the two younger guys. Elyke-o Manor Chim D.K. And D.K. proved that he can be a good wide receiver.
Starting point is 00:17:02 I think D.K. At his best is in the same bucket as Wondale Robinson and Calvin Ridley. He's a high end number three, a low end number two. I don't think Chim D.K. will ever be a number one wide receiver.
Starting point is 00:17:19 He's never going to be Amon Ross St. Brown. You know, like, he's never going to be Jackson Smith and Jigba. He's not that good of a route runner is really what it comes down to. And he has some drops in there too. And with his role on special teams, again, I'm always going to look at Chim D.K. until he proves me wrong as a utility wide receiver.
Starting point is 00:17:43 Chim DK is a guy who can play the Z position outside and move in motion and go across the formation and things like that. He can play in the slot. And this was why I couldn't stand when people say, why would they sign Wondell Robinson when they have Chim D.K. they don't have similar skill sets. Just because they both can play in the slot doesn't mean that they're the same player.
Starting point is 00:18:09 They're very different. Chim Dike is a slashing small forward. Wondell Robinson is a score-first point guard. You know? Like, they aren't the same kind of guy. And I thought it was interesting that Greg Cassell went on a media visit and basically said the same thing that I've been saying for months. And it's like when Gray Cassell says it,
Starting point is 00:18:32 you guys want to believe him. but when I tell you it for months leading up to free agency, I got people in my comments fighting with me all the time about everything, you know. So it's like, but the point is here, I don't see Chim D.K. as a star wide receiver. I think he's a good wide receiver. A good wide receiver. And again, you don't let Chim Dek,
Starting point is 00:18:57 you don't say to yourself in the draft room, hey, we have Chim Dekay, we don't need to take wide receiver this early. like that is what I am explaining here with these roles. You cannot let that happen. You cannot feel content with what they currently have. And same thing, Elyo Manor, you know, I feel like I don't want to do a lot of poo-pooing here. You know, I don't want to be a wet blanket.
Starting point is 00:19:24 But the way that some of us, Titans fans, the way that Titans fans talk about some, of the young players just kind of blows to my mind. Like people ask like, well, what about Kowell Mullings? Well, what about him? You know, it's what about Xavier Restrepo? We'll get there, but like, what about him? David Martin Robinson.
Starting point is 00:19:52 What about him? You can't count on these guys. Titans fans want to believe that our guys that are currently on the team are gonna turn into something special because that's fun. That's optimism. That's, hey, this guy who isn't an obvious star
Starting point is 00:20:11 will turn into one. And like, I want Elylech Eo Manor to be that too. But he didn't perform near good enough last year to be like, Elyke Eo Manor should be the starting X wide receiver and the Titans don't need to make sure that they get good competition. Like getting a got another fourth rounder, a fifth rounder, a sixth rounder,
Starting point is 00:20:36 compete with Elyke-I-O-Manor at X is not good enough. He hasn't earned that. 20% drop rate on on-target passes. Major drop issues. He had drop issues in college. Not good enough of a route runner. For his size, he's not a bad route runner, but not good enough. And he's supposed to be a combat catch contested guy.
Starting point is 00:20:59 He made contested catches last year, but he didn't win at a good enough rate for a guy his size and for a guy who has the drop issues that he does and isn't a good enough route runner and doesn't have, you know, the elite speed that there are guys at his size that have. He's got to be a lot better to look at Elyo Manor and say,
Starting point is 00:21:21 oh, he's a starter going forward. I did not see that last year. He did not earn the right to be an unquestioned starter going into this year. And the reality is, I think if we're honest, it's more likely, much more likely if Ellicayo Manor is just a, you know, Nick Westbrook-Akekekeke. And I don't mean in talent, he's more talented than Nick Westbrook-Akekekeke.
Starting point is 00:21:52 But NWI was always a rotational guy. He was never a guy you wanted to be your certified starter. He came in and he over-performed. but his role and his expectations should probably be the way that we look at Elyke-I-O-Manner until he proves otherwise. At the end of the day, he was number 136. Now, he has talent that makes you excited,
Starting point is 00:22:17 but he was drafted that late for a reason. NFL teams did not like what they saw. So we treat ELEC I-O-Manner like he is David Boston, like he's Chris Brasel, Like he is somebody the Titans took in the second round that needs to turn into a star wide receiver. But that's hope. It doesn't mean that he can't do that.
Starting point is 00:22:40 But the truth is, that should not be the expectation. We need to talk about this guy like he was a late, fourth, early fifth round wide receiver because that's what he looked like last year. So again, I say all that, Ridley, Wondell, Iyo, DK, I say all that to hammer home the point that the talent the Titans have at this position is nowhere near good enough.
Starting point is 00:23:03 This is still one of the bottom 10 wide receiver groups in the NFL, even with Ridley back, even with Wondale signed. And that means that the Titans desperately still need talent at wide receiver. And again, some of these low end of the roster guys at wide receiver, like I'm saying right now, you can't count on them to make a big impact. Do want to let you know that today's episode is brought to you. Buy Robin Hood. What have sports were traded like markets? Starting point is 00:24:35 Fans, let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast. Again, we're breaking down the wide receiver position right now and what the Titans need to do next. Again, not enough talent. The Titans must hit wide receiver early in the draft. We went over the rolls for the Titans top four wide receivers currently. But now we need to look at the wide receivers after that because there's a lot of, a lot of optimism about some of these guys,
Starting point is 00:25:13 but I want to just be obvious and clear about what I think their roles are and why you can't really count on them. Before I dive in, do want to thank you again for making Locked on Titans your first. Listen, each and every day. Speaking of every day, you guys got to join the Locked on Titans Every Dayer Club. Starting point is 00:25:54 Again, hit the link down below in the description, whether you're listening on a podcast app, watching on YouTube. It's down in there. But with that being said, I like Xavier Restrepo, guys. I think that Xavier Restrepo can be the next Mason Kinsey on this team.
Starting point is 00:26:12 He can be a low end of the depth chart, wide receiver, a guy who gets called up from practice squad sometimes. If there's injuries in training camp, we'll make the roster as a low-end wide receiver. He's got that chemistry with Cam Ward that's obviously important. I think he could potentially be Wondale Robinson's direct backup, where I see Calvin Ridley and Chimdike at the Z, Elyke-Ele-Manner and hopefully a drafted wide receiver at the X. Wondale Robinson and Xavier Restrepo.
Starting point is 00:26:47 But the question becomes, if the Titans do draft a wide receiver, which they should, and Bryce Oliver is back, Bryce Oliver is a pretty decent wide receiver as well. And when you have ChimDK, Calvin Ridley, Wondale Robinson, who can all play in the slot functionally, do you need a backup for Wondale Robinson on the roster?
Starting point is 00:27:12 you could just play Calvin Ridley or Chim DK there. Wouldn't you rather have somebody who has more ability to play on the outside like Bryce Oliver and has the ability to be a gunner on special teams and on kickoff and punt and coverage teams and all that? Doesn't that add more value as your 49, 50, 50, 51st, 50, 2nd, 50 third man on the roster?
Starting point is 00:27:34 Just be real here. Just be honest about it. And from a scout team perspective, Xavier Restrepo is going to be more effective as a scout team weapon than Bryce Oliver as well So to me I'm looking at those guys
Starting point is 00:27:54 And people say, well, what about Xavier Restrepo? Well, again, like I just said, what about him? At this point, you can't look at Xavier Restrepo and say he's a lot to make the roster We just didn't see that last year he didn't get a lot of opportunities. And with more opportunities, maybe he'll show something. And that's what off-season program and training camp and pre-season is for.
Starting point is 00:28:19 He's going to get more opportunities this year than he got last year. He's not going to be behind James Prochet and stuff like that. But like, again, we can be excited about Restrepo. And he can have a role with this franchise. And he can, you know, get called up to the big club sometimes and make plays. But you can't be like, oh, well, Xavier Restrepo is going to step up this year. The Titans don't need wide receiver that bad. That's ill-advised.
Starting point is 00:28:44 That's misinformed. You can't think like that. So, I hope that Xavier Ostrepo proves me wrong here. I hope that he makes the roster as wide receiver six. I hope that he can make an impact out there. But the truth is, with Bryce Oliver playing special teams in a higher capacity and is better,
Starting point is 00:29:05 and as a good special teams player, Bryce Oliver is the last wide receiver makes a little bit more sense because hopefully you have a drafted guy Ridley Wondale IODK, that's five and then they're probably only going to keep six wide receivers
Starting point is 00:29:23 especially when it looks like they want to load up on tight ends so if they only keep six I think Bryce Oliver is the sixth wide receiver and Xavier Restrepo is probably still a practice squad guy but either way, you can't count on Bryce Oliver or Xavier Restrepo to make some sort of big leap into something that would prevent the Titans from needing to draft a wide receiver in the first three rounds.
Starting point is 00:29:51 That's ultimately what it comes down to. And Mason Kinsey, just let him hold water bottles and stay around forever at this point. As long as he's not on the active roster, as long as he's a practice squad guy who the Titans can just count on to bring up whenever they need him, be that guy who if we need somebody to return punts in a pinch, if we're down to our eighth wide receiver, we know this guy is going to come in, play hard, know what he's doing.
Starting point is 00:30:16 He was at the Titans jersey reveal. I'm okay with keeping Mason Kinsey around in a practice squad role. Nothing wrong with that. But with that being said, let me know your view on the Titans wide receiver position. Do you disagree with me on my read of anybody's role and their ceiling as a talent and my just continued thought that the Titans must attack wide receiver in a serious way.
Starting point is 00:30:41 Let me know how you guys feel about it. Locked on Titans group chat. Any social media app down below in the comments. Thumbs up on the video. Tighten up down on the chat.
