first half of the season
and play tighten up
tighten down
who's playing well
who's playing poorly
who needs to get better
Not only that, but we got to talk about the perfect buy week that was for the Tennessee Titans.
I'm going to explain to you why it was so perfect and why things went the Tennessee Titans way.
Before we dive into all of that, do want to thank you for making Locked on Titans,
your first listen each and every day.

Now is the time to be one.
Make sure that you stay locked in with the Locked-on Titans podcast.
But with that being said, again,
it was an absolutely perfect by week for the Tennessee Titans.
So many things went the Tennessee Titans way
and set them up to accomplish their goals
in the back half of the season.
And I know a lot of you hear that
and you're instantly thinking, yeah, they need to tank.
They need to tank.
Well, I don't think that they're going to be
tanking
voluntarily.
That's just what's going to happen
because they're a bad team.
But I'm also going to explain to you why
I don't think the Tennessee Titans
necessarily have to tank
and I wouldn't even be mad if they won
another game and we'll go into why
but number one again
a perfect buy week
for the Tennessee Titans
and as I talked about
I did a little short video
going over the reasons quickly
but one of the number one reasons here
we have to be honest with ourselves
is to get a break from this football team.
Watching this football team play every single week for three to four hours
has absolutely sucked the joy out of watching football.
I mean, this football team is truly the worst football team I have ever seen.
Now, I say all this in jest.
I'll be honest with you.
I went back, watch some Tennessee Titans tape from the season
before I got on here to record this episode
because I miss Titans football.
Even when they're as bad as they are,
I'm just addicted in that sick and strange way,
as I'm sure a lot of you guys listening are as well.
But the reality is it was nice to have the bye week,
watch some other football games,
not have to worry about the Titans affecting my mood
and all of that losing another game,
the dumb things that happened with the coaching
or the mistakes or the penalties
or all the different things that happened.
Okay, the bye week was nice because it was a buy.
You know, that's part of it.
But with the jokes aside,
the reality is a ton of things
went the Tennessee Titans way.
here. Number one, we've got to be looking at the Tennessee Titans draft positioning at this
point. Getting the number one overall pick, the possibilities that come with that, how that
lines up with other teams and what they need, incredibly important here. And you start going down
the list of teams that were in a similar boat to the Titans coming into the week. The New Orleans
Saints, I think they were the number one challenger, them in the New York Jets. They both had one
win on the season, just like the
Titans, I mean, both
of those teams are terrible, all right?
The Jets are absolutely despicably
bad, the Saints are bad,
but both of those
teams came through
in the clutch. The New Orleans Saints
led by rookie quarterback, Tyler
Shuck, were able to upset the Carolina
Panthers 17 to 7.
Massive, massive win.
And I'll be
honest with you.
It kind of cuts both ways here.
because what you don't want is
you don't want Tyler Shuck to prove that he is the guy going forward
and you know that after taking him at number 40 in the draft
the Saints are hoping and praying
that Tyler Shuck can be their quarterback going forward
I'm not a big fan of Tyler Shuck
I didn't like him very much coming out of the draft
but you know if he's going to play well enough
to knock them out of contention for the number one overall pick
then great but he would also take someone off the board
who could be potentially interested in trading up
for a quarterback if he plays well enough.
But at this point, I'm perfectly fine with the Saints
getting a couple more wins,
big-time win by the Saints,
gives them their second win on the season,
and of course, the Titans only have one,
so that's good news.
And then we go to the New York Jets
who beat the Cleveland Browns,
27 to 20, and for me, this is critical,
all right, because the Browns play the Titans.
So if the Browns were able to beat the Titans,
that could really, really secure things
for the Titans long term.
now that the Titans don't get to play the Jets.
So the Jets beating the Browns,
and then the Browns having the chance to beat the Titans,
and then the Titans also play the New Orleans Saints.
Like, again, the Browns, the Saints, the Jets, the Raiders,
these are the absolute worst teams that I've seen all year long.
And the Raiders beat the Titans.
The Titans get to play the Browns.
They get to play the Saints and potentially lose those games
when they don't get to see the Jets.
So the fact that the Jets were able to do this,
get off of their one win.
Absolutely crucial.
But not only that, there's more.
The Miami Dolphins.
The Miami Dolphins got a win.
3 to 7.
Big for the Dolphins to get out of there
because I think they're going to try to move on from Tua.
After the year, they could be a team that could be interested
in getting a quarterback.
Having them get further away from the Titans.
Now two wins ahead of the Titans.
Absolutely critical.
So those are all massive wins for the Titans.
The Giants had the win.
and then let the Chicago Bears come back after Jackson Dart got hurt.
Brian Dable got fired by the Giants on Monday.
They're probably going to lose a ton of games.
But the good news is the Giants don't need a quarterback.
So they're in the same boat as the Titans,
which means they're going to have less competition, I guess, for the Titans
in terms of teams that need a quarterback.
Okay, the Giants could just stick and pick,
and then you don't have to worry about them.
That could be helpful depending on what happens.
Giants get the number one overall pick,
they're going to be able to take advantage of what we want the Titans to take
advantage of.
So the Giants, another team, the Titans don't get to play.
That's a team that you really got to watch here.
And if they have Russell Wilson back in,
it's going to be even more difficult for them to get a victory.
So you see how every little victory is so, so important for these teams around the Titans.
And then finally, this doesn't help the draft pick in the first round,
but the Baltimore Ravens also won.
the Los Angeles Chargers also won beating the Pittsburgh Steelers,
which means Baltimore is only one game back from Pittsburgh.
They get to play Pittsburgh two more times the rest of the year.
Joe Burrow came back to practice on Monday,
which could make it more difficult in the AFC North for the Pittsburgh Steelers
who have to play the Bengals two more times as, or one more time,
as well, they already lost to the Bengals once when they had Joe Flacko.
So this is all good news for the Titans, the Ravens, the Titans Condition,
pick with the Draymont Jones deal
is contingent on them making the playoffs
and then Draymont Jones having two sacks
so Saints win
Dolphins win
Ravens win
no Titans game to bring us down
you know what I mean like it's
it's all good news
for the Titans in this by week
the Jets get a win as well and
again if the Titans get the number one pick
the ability to trade back
get multiple draft picks
while a team like
the Saints, the Browns, the Jets, the Raiders, the Dolphins.
The Los Angeles Rams have the number 10 pick in the draft right now
because they own Atlanta Falcons pick.
The Rams could be moving up looking to get their replacement for Matthew Stafford
after the season.
We don't know how the season's going to end or what that's going to be like for those teams.
So I think there are a handful of teams that all make sense
options and the more teams that we have
that want quarterbacks
the more competition the better
the deal that the Titans will get
so there's no way around it
this was a perfect buy week for the Tennessee
Titans but now let's put a cap in
the first half of the season
do want to let you guys know

Titans fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
We talked about why week 10 was the perfect buy week for the Tennessee Titans.
But now I want to kind of put a cap in the first half of the season.
and put a pin in it, you could say,
and talk about the players that have played well
in the first half of the season,
the players that haven't played so well
in the first half of the season
where I kind of sit on all these guys
through one half of the year.
Before we dive in, thanks again for making Locked-on Titans,
your first listen, and thank you again as well
for making the Locked-on Podcast Network,
the number one sports podcast network.
But with that being said,
my first Titan up is Cam Ward.
And I know that it's been up and down.
I know that Cam Ward has had bad moments.
I know that he's had ugly moments as well.
The turnovers, some of the misreads, things like that,
they've got to be better.
There's no doubt about it.
I'm not going to sit here and tell you that that's not the case.
But after going through every single dropback that Cam Ward has had
and every single throw that Cam Ward has had
and every single offensive play for the Tennessee Titans
over the last couple of days,
going back through the film, getting reacquainted with everything
all the way back to week one.
to me, I don't see how in the aggregate, in the overall,
you wouldn't have Cam Ward as a tighten up.
Some of the best moments that the Tennessee Titans have had,
some of the only signs of life that the Tennessee Titans have had
on the offensive side of the ball is when Cam Ward has gone supernova.
And there are so many things on tape and so many of the good plays
that have happened to the Titans this year,
which is just Cam Ward made a play.
Either his elite on talent makes an incredible throw,
changes the game for the Titans.
Think about some of these safety splitters,
the one to I-O, the one to Calvin Ridley.
Think about the shot deep down the field
against the Arizona Cardinals to set up the game-winning score to Calvin Ridley.
Some of the only good plays that the Tennessee Titans have had
because the run game has been despicable.
The run game has been absolutely putrid.
There's been nothing outside of the 50-yard scamper
by Tage Spears down the right-hand sideline against New England,
I think it was.
The Titans' run game has done little to absolutely nothing.
Okay? So, Cam Ward is out there.
Historic pace with the sacks.
Tons of drops, one of the bottom five teams in the NFL in that category.
Terrible offensive coaching.
So to me, when you take, hey, here are the bad things that Cam Ward has done,
which I have been honest about and critical of.
When you take the environmental factors and how we should kind of grade Cam Ward on the curve
of being a rookie and being in the situation he is,
And then you look at the great things that he has done
and the flashes that you have seen.
And again, it's impossible for me
to make a tighten up, tighten down list
for the first half of the season
and not give Cam Moore to tighten up.
There's just no way,
considering what he's going through,
what he's playing with,
and then the good moments that have happened,
you've got to give him credit
for lifting the Titans up
and the only moments that they have gotten up
on the offensive side of the football.
Now, along with that,
I know that there have been issues.
but I am giving a tighten up to all the rookie weapons.
Chim D.K. obviously, is a tighten up with the special team's prowess,
all pro-returner in year one for the Titans.
That's critical, but Chim D.K. has come along as a pass-catching option
as well after they let Tyler Lockett go and got D.K. more involved.
Elicio Manor has had drops.
Again, like with Cam Ward,
I'm not going to sit here and tell you that Elico Manor has been perfect.
but, you know, I'm looking back
and we're seeing games where
Alec Ayo Manor has four catches for 52 yards and a drop
and people are coming out of it because of the drop
and they're like, oh, Alec, Iyo's got to pick it up.
Well, the reality is he's a, you know, a late fourth round rookie
who's, for the most part, from week one to the by week
has been the Tennessee Titans' most consistent weapon on offense.
Like, that's just the truth
He's got the most yards of anybody on the team
He's got the most receiving
touch, most receiving yards
He's got the most receiving touchdowns
of anybody on the team
26 catches
323 yards
2 touchdowns
12.4 yards per reception
Like I-O has made big plays for the Titans
okay, he just has
Now again
there have been drop
you're right, I'm not going to tell you that there haven't been drops and that isn't an issue
but quite frankly, when I'm looking about what this team is, what can you do for the team?
What have you done well?
When the Titans have had their good moments and Alex had four drops on the year,
that's the total, four drops according to pro football reference.
I mean, it's frustrating to have drops, but
Elicio Manor in the aggregate has been
an important player for the Titans
and had a very good start to his rookie season.
All right, so he's getting a tighten up.
Gunner Helm as well, it's not his fault,
they don't throw him the ball.
I mean, he's got 20 catches,
187 yards, and a touchdown.
Only 25 targets on the year
while Chigacanquo has gotten 39.
They got to play Gunner Helm more.
He's just a...
The only thing that Chigaconquo does
better than Gunner Helm right now is yards after catch.
And quite frankly, the Titans need more than that
to justify having Chig on the field
when they're getting rid of all these players
that aren't going to be back next year.
Well, Chick-a-Conquo, I don't think the Titans are going to
re-sign him. So let's get Gunner-Helm more involved here.
Gunnor-Helm gets a tighten up for the...
He's just made... going through all the throws
and seeing how many of Cam Ward's
good throws and good plays
end up going to Gunner-Helm, it's just like
how can we not get this guy
more involved? How is it not more obvious?
that this dude needs to play more often.
But moving away from the weapons,
I do want to say, tighten up to Van Jefferson.
Van Jefferson had the big drop in the preseason
and everybody kind of said, I hate him.
I'm done with him.
But, I mean, he's been very solid.
The team isn't good, the offense isn't good,
but Van Jefferson has been very solid.
That's the truth of the matter.
Going to the offensive line,
Peter Skoronsky, tighten up,
no doubt about it
second best player on the football team
behind Jeffrey Simmons
Skoronsky's been fantastic
a clear tighten up
this may be controversial
but I'm going to give a tighten up to Dan Moore
some of the moments
have been bad no doubt
but with J.C. Latham
being out half of the season so far
and
the Titans offensive lines
struggling with Cush
and Zitler
I'll be honest
Dan Moore has been the Tennessee
Titan's second best offensive lineman
and he's had some bad games
I'm not going to act like he's playing awesome
but Dan Moore hasn't been like
oh Dan Moore is wrecking the game
multiple weeks
like that hasn't
that hasn't happened
it's been a collective problem
it's not like it's not like it was
with Andre Diller and Dennis Daley
and Jalen Duncan there
and Nicholas Petit
Ferrer there and stuff like that. It's not, hasn't been like that. So the bar is low,
all right, I admit, the bar is low, but I'm giving Dan Moore a tighten up. And I'm going to
give a tighten up to Ali Udo for a backup tackle. He filled it admirably to the point
where some people were wondering if they should put Ali Udo back in after J.C. Latham struggled
in his first game back. That was always a really bad take. You're not putting Oli Udo in back
over J.C. Latham. But nonetheless, Oli Udo had some moments of success as a backup swing
tackle. He did a fine job. Now on defense, it's clear. Jeffrey Simmons is a tighten up.
Tavondre sweat has been up and down, but overall he's made some big plays for the team. I'll
give him a tighten up. Sebastian Joseph Day, again, been a very, very solid role player once
again for the Titans. Cedric Gray, clearly a tighten up. One of the small flickers of light
for the Titans this season that could have fans excited. Major tighten up to Cedric Gray. I would
give Jihad Ward as part of the front seven.
I would give him a major tighten up as well.
I would give, you know, some guys who are gone now like Roger McCreary and
Dremont Jones tightenups as well, but they're gone.
Obviously, Jihad Ward gets a tighten up.
Titans got him off a scrap heap and he's been one of their most consistent pass rush
threats throughout the year.
Again, the bar is very low.
And I'm going to get my final tighten up to Kevin Winston,
finally getting back out on the field, finally getting going,
getting opportunities, and now Quandre Diggs has been released.
Kevin Winston going to get even more opportunity.
So those are my tighten-ups for the team.
Let me know if you think I missed any.
Let me know your tighten-ups.
But now we've got to talk about the tighten downs.

Titans fans. Let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
We talked about why the bye week was absolutely perfect for the Titans.
We talked about my Titan ups from the first half of the season.
Now we need to talk about the Titan downs.
And there are far too many Titan downs.
And quite honestly, they're all justified.
And I could have even done a little bit more.
There are some guys who probably could be
Titan Downs, but I just didn't include them
because I didn't feel like they felt they landed
in either category. But before we
dive into the Titan Downs, do want to thank you again for
making Locked on Titan Jewel at first. Listen
and thanks again for making the Locked On Podcast Network,
the number one sports
podcast network. But
with that being said,
Titan Down, I got to start
with Calvin Ridley. He's been hurt.
He was unproductive.
There have been drops. He has
just not lived up to what
we thought him and Cam Ward were going to be able to do together this year.
I mean, even last year with Will Levis and Mason Rudolph going back and forth and the health
of the offense last year, even last year he was able to put up 1,000 yards.
He is not going to get anywhere close to that this year.
Sadly, the haters were right.
I mean, it's just been an utter disappointment.
There's no way you could put Calvin Ridley as anything other than a tighten down.
I'm going to get Bryce Oliver a tighten down as well.
were some people hyping up Bryce Oliver.
He's just been injured all year, barely been able to play,
hasn't been on IR for a while, but still isn't able to come back.
Like, he just, he's a ghost out there right now.
And, you know, he was so hyped up.
Just add him to the list of overhyped training camp wide receivers for the Titans,
the Marcus Johnson Award, as I like to call it.
Chigua is a Titan down.
Look, he's been fine as a little dump-off threat for Cam Ward,
but he has just been so despicably bad.
as a blocker.
I mean, it's insane how many snaps there are on tape
where Chig misses a block and it is critically important
that he make that block.
Now, at some point in time, it's the coaching staff's fault
for continuing to put Chigacanquo in situations
where he's got to make important blocks to spring runs,
but he has failed.
Basically every single time it feels like
I've watched him on tape.
To the offensive line, Cushingberry, Zitler, and Latham, all tighten downs.
Cushenberry has not been good enough this year for what he's getting paid.
Now, he's coming off the Achilles tear, fair enough,
but he has just gotten bullied in certain matchups,
and it's just, it's impossible when you're getting pressure straight up the gut.
And him and Kevin Zitler together have just never been on the same page
without a handle stunts, twists, blitz pickups.
That from center to right tackle is just in dismay.
May, every single week with how to pick things up.
They never got on the same track.
And it makes you wonder, maybe Kevin Zitler should have played in the preseason
some so that he could get on the same page with some of those guys.
And not having Cushingberry because of the injury, obviously that's a different situation.
But it's just never allowed them to get any rhythm.
Zytler has been really poor at times for this team.
And Latham is equal parts.
Hey, be better.
And you miss time.
Like, it's just crazy that J.C. Latham was a guy who would, like, never miss a football game in his life due to injury and then goes on IR in his second season after there's so much hope for the offensive line.
But Latham hasn't played well enough when he's been on the field, and he hasn't been on the field enough this year.
So I got to give it.
It's different, like him and Sweat are kind of similar, but sweat has actually had pretty good moments out there.
He's made some impactful plays for the Titans.
Latham really hasn't had an impactful game where it's clear that he's shutting down his appellate.
own it and giving K.M. Ward proper time from that
spot. So the whole right side of the
offensive line to me is a tighten
down. Going to the defensive side of the
ball. Cody Barton, absolute
disaster, at
linebacker, Arden Key,
Legerius Sneed,
Amani Hooker. I mean, Key
has missed so much time, but he's been
absolutely terrible when he's been out on the field.
He got absolutely replaced by
Femi, by Draymont, by Jihad
Ward, like Arden Key has been terrible
or hurt or both.
at all times.
So Barton, Arden Key, Legerius Sneed, Ammoni Hooker, veterans
who are getting decent money,
who have just been a disaster.
A disaster for the Titans.
I mean, you look at a player like Jalen Armar Davis,
who the Titans got off waivers.
You look at a player like Daryl Baker Jr.,
who the Titans got off waivers last year.
Those guys are playing bad, tightened down for them.
They aren't being paid like great players.
They are waiver, wire, scrap heap pickups.
Duh, they aren't playing that well.
But Barton, Key, Sneed, Hooker,
they were paid like veteran contributors.
Sneed was paid a ton.
And he'll never play for the Titans again.
It is over, folks.
What a disaster and a disgrace that situation was.
The trade, the deal they gave him from top to bottom, a disaster.
So most certainly a tighten down
for all those veteran players on the defense
and again, the expectations weren't very high
but still a tighten down nonetheless
to Jalen Armar Davis and Darrow Baker
they clearly aren't good enough players
for the role that they should not have been put into
to be fair.
You know, they should be backups to Jarvis Brownlee Jr.,
Roger McCrary, and Legerius Sneed.
That was the plan all along.
Finally, I want to say this.
Johnny Hecker and Joey Sly both get a tight.
down. Johnny Hecker has been awful,
disastrously bad.
Like, he hasn't kicked a good punt in forever.
Anytime there's a chance to pin someone inside the 20,
he only gets him to like the 18 or the 15.
He hasn't got anybody inside the 10, it feels like, in forever.
He's had some really short punts with bad hang time,
and Joey Slides obviously missed five or six field goals on the year.
If you combine all his total kicks, like it's just,
the special team's kick.
has gotten significantly worse
even if the return and the coverage
has gotten better and that's on bones
at the end of the day.
He wanted his guys on special teams
and the Titans got rid of Nick Folk
who has been way better than Joey Sly
this year.
I didn't put Tony Pollard, Tajay Spears,
Xavier Woods, or Femiola Dejo in any category.
Femi
had better moments than people want to admit
and had his best game
when he got hurt and then went on IR.
Xavier Woods has had some good moments
but some down moments.
He hasn't been as bad as Amani Hooker,
although he hasn't been good.
And Tony Pollard and Tajay Spears have just been okay.
I would put Tony Pollard and tighten down
if I had to put him anywhere,
and Tajay Spears and tighten up if I had to put him anywhere.
But I don't think either of them deserve either of those designations,
if I'm honest with you.
But with that being said, that is going to do it for me today.
Folks, as always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland.
And this was Locked on Titans.
Thank you.
