Episode Date: March 19, 2024

The Tennessee Titans have made a ton of changes over the offseason so far and more could be on the way, including potential trades. There is no one on the roster more likely to be dealt than wide rece...iver Treylon Burks. What could he be dealt for? Tyler goes over the options and the latest news. Also, if Burks is traded, there are plenty of ways to use the compensation to move the Titans up in the draft. Finally, the Titans signed Sebastian Joseph-Day on Tuesday to bolster the defensive line, but need to do more. Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel:https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitans Follow Tyler on Twitter @TicTacTitans Follow the show on Facebook @LockedOnTitansPod Subscribe to the Locked On Titans YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/c/LockedOnTitans/videos Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!eBay MotorsFor parts that fit, head to eBay Motors and look for the green check. Starting point is 00:01:13 Also, what could the Titans do with that draft pick in the draft to make more trades to climb up the board? And it's a new day for the Tennessee Titans. Interior defensive line is the Titans sign Sebastian Joseph Day at defensive tackle. We're going to talk about all that before we do. Thank you for making the Locked on Titans podcast your first listen each and every day. Remember Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year round, always for

Starting point is 00:01:58 Couldn't do it without you guys. All right. So we got a report from NFL reporter Cam Marino. All right. Works for NFLDraftBuzz.com. He says, seeing the Jets connected to trade rumors at the wide receiver position, I'm thinking Traylon Burks is in contention here. All right. So look. Cam Marino has been doing a good job throughout the circuit.
Starting point is 00:02:27 I'm not going to act like I've heard about Camerino all along. We'll be honest here. No disrespect to Camerino, but it's a little bit different to see him saying Traylon Burks could be in contention for a trade to the Jets and Adam Schefter or Ian Rappaport or Jake Glazer or Jordan Schultz.
Starting point is 00:02:43 You guys know what I'm saying, all right? So I'm not saying that Camerino is wrong here, but we'll just take it with a grain of salt. But either way, I have been saying that a trade for Traylon Burks could make a ton of sense. Now, let me just say this. If you're someone who is typing in the comments right now or you're someone who's thinking,
Starting point is 00:03:02 no, I don't want to trade a former first round pick for, you know, a mid round pick or a late pick. I want to see Traylon Burks and Brian Callahan's offense. I want to see what he can do. I understand. I get what you're saying. I don't think that you're crazy. I'm not adamant here that they don't do that.
Starting point is 00:03:23 But I think if a trade presents itself for Traylon Burks, the Tennessee Titans need to do that because I still think the Titans need to draft two wide receivers in the draft. You sign Calvin Ridley, you have DeAndre Hopkins, draft two receivers, one in the first two rounds, one in the next two rounds. I absolutely think the Titans need to do that. Totally remake the wide receiver room. Again, let go of the stain of the A.J. Brown trade. That's not Traylon Burks' fault, but at the same time, that is a part of this.
Starting point is 00:03:55 So I know that Burks has shown flashes. I know that some people want to see him in the Callahan offense. But for me, if the Titans have the opportunity to trade Traylon Burks, they need to do it. They need to get that draft pick and they need to go into the NFL draft with the expectation that they are going to take two wide receivers. And Brian Callahan said at the combine that they hope a couple of those guys will be good fits for them. So they're looking like they're going to take multiple receivers anyway. If Traylon Burks and Kyle Phillips are not on this team next year
Starting point is 00:04:25 and the Titans draft two wide receivers, I'm going to be fine with that. I'm going to be fine with that. Then you have NWI as your wide receiver five, and then you have Colton Dow as your wide receiver six, who's going to be on PUP or IR, whatever. He's going to come back eventually. I think that's an okay route to go.
Starting point is 00:04:41 All right, that's the route that I would go. And as for the trade with Traylon Burks, the Jets have a fourth round pick at 111 and a fourth round pick at 135. The Jets also have a sixth round pick at number 185 and they have a seventh round pick at 256 and 257. They do not have a fifth round pick. So if the Titans were to trade Traylon Burks
Starting point is 00:05:07 to the New York Jets, it's either one of the fourth round picks, the sixth round pick, or the seventh round picks. I would be hype. I would be hype if the Titans could get a fourth round pick here. 111, yeah, right.
Starting point is 00:05:23 135. I mean, the Jets don't have a second round pick here. 111, yeah right. 135, I mean the Jets don't have a second round pick. So if they take offensive line or tight end or defense or something like that with their first pick at number 10, they don't have another pick until their third round pick and they're not giving up a third for Traylon Burks. So the Jets need other things. If they say, hey, we got Garrett Wilson. We made some additions. We're going to go out and get a former first round pick and Traylon Burks to be our deep threat for a fourth round pick.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Again, 135. I would be hype if the Titans could get 135. More realistically, a sixth round pick probably could get you Traylon Burks I would be happy if the Titans got pick 185 for Traylon Burks I would accept that
Starting point is 00:06:12 I would be okay there now I would hate if the Titans only got 256 or 257 back even if they got both of them back 256 and 257 those are like the last two picks of the draft. That is a non-starter for me. So I would be hype
Starting point is 00:06:31 with 135. I would be happy with 185. I would hate 256 or 257 because it adds to the Titans pick. So I know you're thinking in your head right now, we traded A.J. Brown and drafted Traylon Burks in the first round, and we're going to give him up for a sixth round pick. That is stupid. And I get it.
Starting point is 00:06:54 I get it. Even a fourth round pick. Maybe you think a fourth round pick is stupid. I get it. But it's not just about that individual pick. It's about what it will allow the Tennessee Titans to do in the draft to move around the board. The Titans don't have a third round pick right now.
Starting point is 00:07:14 They pick 7 and 38 and then they don't have a top 100 pick. So if you knew that you traded Traylon Burks, like imagine if you could trade Traylon Burks. Like imagine if you could trade Traylon Burks and the Titans fourth round pick and get a top 60 pick. What if you could trade Traylon Burks and a sixth and move up into the third?
Starting point is 00:07:42 Think about it like that. You know what I mean? And I'm going to go over some of those possibilities. I'm going to go over four trades that the Titans could make if they trade Traylon Burks with the pick that they get back to move up in the draft
Starting point is 00:07:56 and get better players in the top 100, something I think the Titans desperately, desperately need to do. So we're going to go over four trades here in just a second. Before we do, though, do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought to you by eBay Motors. Passion, drive, patience. Titans fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast. We talked about potential offers for Traylon Burks from the New York Jets, what picks they have that they could offer,
Starting point is 00:09:34 what would make sense for me, for the Titans, my hype, happy, and hate trade returns. But now I want to spin it forward. Now I want to kind of put another layer on the Traylon Burks trade conversation here because I understand, again, if you're someone saying, no, I don't want to trade him. Let's see what he does in Callahan's system. Let's see if he can live up to the hype a little bit more. Let's give him one more chance. I absolutely understand that. I do. But again, it's not just about what you get back for Traylon Burks. It's what you can then do with what you get back from Traylon
Starting point is 00:10:09 Burks. So I'm going to go over that before I do. Thank you for making the Locked on Titans podcast your first listen each and every day. Get subscribed. Stay subscribed. It's your team every day here on the Locked on Titans podcast, Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year round, Monday through Friday, Tennessee Titans content all year round, always for free. But we're going to start with some trades the Titans could make from my hype return. My hype return for Traylon Burks was a fourth round pick, number 135 from the New York Jets. All right, that would be the best possible return I think the Titans could get for Burks,
Starting point is 00:10:46 a fourth round pick. So if the Titans traded for the Jets, fourth round pick, number 135, these are the trades that they could potentially make. Pick number 135, the Jets' fourth round pick,
Starting point is 00:11:03 plus the Titans' sixth round pick, number 182. If you follow the Fitzgerald-Spielberger trade chart, the trade value chart that they have, which I think is the most accurate. You have, you know, the Rich Hill, the Jimmy Johnson, Draft Tech has one. The Fitzgerald-Spielberger trade chart is the one that I think is the best. So that's the one I'm using here.
Starting point is 00:11:29 But if you take the Jets' fourth rounder, 135, that's 514 points. You combine that with the Titans' sixth round pick, number 182, that's 363 points on the trade chart. That gets you pick number 66. A third round pick. A high third round pick. That's 877 points is pick number 66. So even if, even if we adjust a little bit for pessimism, we'll say,
Starting point is 00:12:02 the Titans could take the Jets' fourth rounder and their own sixth rounder and probably get 75 to 80, somewhere in there. Similarly, a second trade. The Titans could take the Jets' fourth rounder, 514 points, and combine it with one of their three seventh rounders. The Titans have three seventh round picks.
Starting point is 00:12:24 So you take the Jets' fourth round pick and one of their three seventh rounders. The Titans have three seventh round picks. So you take the Jets fourth round pick and you're one of your three seventh round picks and you can get up into the end of the third round, 80 to 90, somewhere in there, 778 points on the trade chart. You got the 514 from the fourth round pick Titans earliest seventh round pick is 264 points on the trade chart. You put that together, you're getting to about 80 to 90. So yes, I get it. If you want to say, don't trade Traylon Burks, you know, I want to see what Traylon Burks can do. I get that.
Starting point is 00:12:58 But if you get a fourth round pick from the Jets for Traylon Burks, you can combine that with some of your late round picks and now you're up in the top 100 and now you have one, you have 38, you have 65, 70, 75, 80, and you still have your 106, your fourth, you have your fifth round
Starting point is 00:13:23 pick still, which is 106, your fourth. You have your fifth round pick still, which is 146. You still have your sixth rounder, or you traded your sixth rounder, but you still have your three seventh rounders. Like whatever you decide to do, you're still going to have a ton of your picks. But because you have the fourth from the Jets, you can get into the third round, get back inside the top 100 by only giving up one of your day three options. Like, so again, it's not just, oh, I'm getting a sixth back for Traylon Burks. I'm getting a fourth back for Traylon Burks. That might not be worth it. It's what the Titans can then do once they have that extra pick available. Okay. So here are some other options. If you don't like those,
Starting point is 00:14:05 I said I would be happy with the Jets' sixth round pick. So here are some trades the Titans could make with the Jets' sixth round pick. The Titans could take their fourth round pick, which is 106, 637 points on the trade chart, and they could combine that with the Jets' sixth round pick
Starting point is 00:14:24 that they get for Traylon Burks, pick 185, which is 354 points, and that could potentially get them all the way up into the 50s, maybe early 60s. Like, that's huge. Imagine having 7, 38, and 60. That would be huge. That's what the Titans need to do. And then you take 148 and one of your 7th rounders, and you jump up in the top 125.
Starting point is 00:14:56 So the Titans don't need necessarily to get 8 players and to take 3 7th round picks. But if you start combining those seventh round picks with earlier picks, you can jump up even higher and the Titans could still leave with a seven man draft class. All because they traded Traylon Burks. All right. So here's another trade, the last trade that I want to break down. Take the Titans fifth round pick, number 146. Combine it with the Jets sixth round pick, number 185. And according to the trade chart, you could get up as high as 73. So the Titans could get, what, 75 to
Starting point is 00:15:32 80 for their fifth and their sixth? And then what would you have? You would have pick seven, pick 38, pick 75, pick 106. Now you have four picks inside the top 100. And you still have three 7th rounders to take dart throws. Again, a 7-man draft class with four guys in the top 100. So basically, when I talk about trading Traylon Burks, it's not just about getting back one singular pick for Burks. It's about adding to the Titans ammunition to make these type of draft day trades,
Starting point is 00:16:15 to move up and down the board, to get back into the top 100. Right now, the Titans go from 38 to 106. That's a huge gap where a lot of the good players are going to go. And you've heard it like I've heard it. And if you haven't, then lean in. The back end of
Starting point is 00:16:34 the draft is not as good as it normally is because of NIL. College players who are juniors, who would go out and go into the draft just because they want to make money, even if they're going to be mid-round picks are staying at college because they're making money off NIL. That means that the back end of the draft is not as good
Starting point is 00:16:55 because there's not as much of a middle class buoyed by underclassmen because they're staying for NIL money. So having three seventh round picks, okay. Get that pick in there for Traylon Burks, a fourth or a sixth. Use that to make even more moves up and down the board
Starting point is 00:17:15 and set yourself up to remodel this team under a brand new coaching staff. Remember, Rancar Thon has said to us on numerous occasions this offseason that because they changed coaches from Mike Rabel to Brian Callahan, they had to totally scrap the college scouting process. They had to totally scrap that and change it
Starting point is 00:17:34 because the coaches are looking for such different things. So, with that being said, it's probably players on the team that don't fit. And with Burke's situation and with the draft class of wide receivers, it just makes a ton of sense to trade him and give yourself more ammo to move up and down the board.
Starting point is 00:17:55 But with that being said, the Titans made a signing. It's a new day for the Titans interior defensive line. All right, that's the last time I'll tell that joke. Let's talk about Sebastian Joseph Day signing with the Titans right now. Before we do, I do want to let you guys know though that today's episode is brought to you by FanDuel.
Starting point is 00:18:16 Say goodbye to busted brackets. Because FanDuel lets you bet on every single game of the tourney. Starting point is 00:18:47 You can even pick who's going to win it all. Me, I took a little bit of a dark horse. I took North Carolina for plus $1,700. All right? I think they got some good players. I know that UConn, Houston, the top guys, you can take those if you want. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:19:03 But I thought North Carolina was a nice move for good odds. But make sure that you visit fanduel.com slash locked on and bet on college hoops until they cut down the nets. Titans fans, let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast. We talked about Traylon Burks, a possible trade, what the Titans could do with the pick that they get from a trade of Traylon Burks in the draft. But now we're going to talk about the signing that the Tennessee Titans made. They brought in help on the interior defensive line with Sebastian Joseph Day.
Starting point is 00:19:52 Before I break it down, I do want to thank you for making the Locked On Titans podcast your first listen. Starting point is 00:20:25 on Locked On Sports Today, 24-7 streaming channel on YouTube or the free Amazon Fire TV channels app. Also, go Red Legs. But, Sebastian Joseph Day, signed by the Tennessee Titans. He had a visit on Monday. The information came in late on Monday night.
Starting point is 00:20:44 But we got 6'4", 310-pound defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph Day has played the nose tackle. He's played all the way out as a defensive end in a 3-4, as a 5 technique. Played some 3 technique as well, but I think really where the Titans are going to want him to play is on that nose tackle. Now again, 6'4, 300 pounds, good length. He can move around the defensive line and that versatility is important because the Titans don't have a lot of depth there. But I ultimately think as the nose tackle next to Jeffrey Simmons as the three
Starting point is 00:21:16 technique, that is the best spot for Sebastian Joseph Day. He is a little bit older. He's 29 years old. Well, he's 28 right now. He'll turn 29 on March the 21st. So just later this week. My birthday is actually the 22nd. So, hello. But with that being said, 29 years old. He's not a big upside guy,
Starting point is 00:21:36 but he's a veteran who you can plug in. And at the end of the day, that is what I wanted from the Tennessee Titans. This is what I wanted the Titans to do. You don't need to give a big contract to DJ Reader, pay T. Air Tart above market value like he thought he was going to get, which he's not. The Bengals sent him home saying he had a bad attitude.
Starting point is 00:21:55 But anyways, moving right along from there, I've been telling you guys for a long time, don't pay T. Air Tart. And thank gosh that the Titans didn't do that. But anyways, this is what I wanted them to do.R.E. Tartt. And thank gosh that the Titans didn't do that. But anyways, this is what I wanted them to do. Get an undrafted free agent. Get a guy as a seventh round pick in the draft. If you want a young interior defensive lineman, nose tackle type, that's how the Titans got Tartt. That's how the Titans got Naquan Jones after him. You don't need to spend big money to
Starting point is 00:22:19 get interior defensive line play. So they're going to bring in Sebastian Joseph Day on a one year, you know, two and a half million dollar deal, maybe even a little bit less than that. I think it's a great move. Again, a veteran. He's been in the NFL five seasons, 11 sacks, 229 tackles, 21 tackles for loss. He's been incredibly durable. That's a key here. Incredibly durable. He's played 16 plus games in four out of his five seasons. All right. He had a great couple of years next to Aaron Donald with the Los Angeles Rams. He had a good season with the Los Angeles Chargers. And then he eventually this season in 2023 moved on and played the playoff run with San Francisco.
Starting point is 00:23:06 But again, this is exactly what the Titans needed to do at the interior defensive line situation. Bring in one of these veterans. We talked about Sebastian Joseph Day throughout the episodes earlier this week. My everydayers will remember on the first episode of the week, we mentioned him, talked about him last week as well. He just made a lot of sense. And you don't need to pay a lot to get a two down player who's going to stuff the run, maybe give you
Starting point is 00:23:32 a little pass rush. Worth noting, Sebastian Joseph Day did have three sacks last year, tying his career high. So, you know, with San Francisco's defensive line, with the Los Angeles Chargers, he was still able to make some plays. Nothing you're going to write home about. I'm not going to freak out and say how great of a signing this is. But this is just what the Titans should have done all along for the interior defensive line.
Starting point is 00:23:55 This is what they should have done. Just go out, get a veteran. You can plug in for really cheap. Get some undrafted free agent guys to compete during camp. See if you get a gem of any kind. And that's how you solve that two down run stuffing position. Boom. Alright. Now the Titans move forward. Offensive
Starting point is 00:24:11 tackle. Again, at the time of this recording, we still have not gotten news on Andrus Peet and whether the Titans signed him. He had a visit on Monday. So the further we get away from Monday, the more unlikely it becomes that they sign him.
Starting point is 00:24:28 At Offensive Tackle, more news. The Bengals signed Trenton Brown. So not going to be an option for the Titans. But if you're somebody who wants Makai Becton, the Bengals were interested in Becton and they went with Brown. So they're definitely not going to sign Becton. So it would make sense if the Titans would then maybe pivot and take a look at Becton and they went with Brown so they're definitely not going to sign Becton so it would make sense if the Titans would then maybe pivot and take a look at Becton
Starting point is 00:24:48 they were rumored to be interested in him early in the process that's faded maybe now that Becton has been shunned by the Bengals the Titans may be assed there but you know with Andrews Pete can the Titans see him playing on the right side if the Titans think Pete can play on the right side and
Starting point is 00:25:03 the left side which I don't agree with, but if they do, Bill Callahan, I guess, then it wouldn't make sense for the Titans to sign Mekhi Becton anyways. So we'll see how that develops. But Becton, Pete, even Josh Jones still, Cam Fleming,
Starting point is 00:25:19 Charles Leno, I guess, is still out there as of this recording. You look at the linebacker. Isaiah Simmons is still a name I'm interested in. Defensive line, Emmanuel Ogba, Mike Dana, Carl Lawson, Jadavion Clowney. I'm going to talk about that later in the week because I know a lot of you guys shudder when you hear his name,
Starting point is 00:25:40 but I think that would still make sense. Safety, Akella Witherspoon, Rocky Asin, Justin Simmons, and Marcus May are still out there as safety. I mean, there's still a lot of names out there at positions of need for the Titans, but I'm sure we'll get
Starting point is 00:25:55 more news on signings as we continue our way to the NFL draft, but that is going to do it. For today's show, I'm going to be back with you guys tomorrow. If we don't get any news and more signings, we're going to talk Corey Davis and Jadavian Clowney reunions. That's going to do it.
Starting point is 00:26:12 As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland, and this was Locked on Titans.
