However, that doesn't mean it is time for a freak out. Next, the defensive line continues to eat the Seahawks alive and the linebackers are starting to separate themselves. Finally, there were some injuries on Thursday and Jah'Quan Jackson continues to show out.Subscribe to the TicTacTitans Film Channel:https://www.youtube.com/@TicTacTitansTicTacTitans Merchandise: https://dixons-dream.square.site/shop/tictactitans-gear/C3AAPNWXSXA6SBYG3USV2I7R?page=1&limit=30&sort_by=category_order&sort_order=ascFollow Tyler on Twitter @TicTacTitansFollow the show on Facebook @LockedOnTitansPodSubscribe to the Locked On Titans YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/c/LockedOnTitans/videosFor your next listen, check out the Locked On Fantasy Football podcast. Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis struggled at Thursday's practice, but that doesn't mean that he'll struggle forever.

with the Seattle Seahawks from Thursday on today's show.
First, Will Levis struggled,
but that doesn't mean that he's going to struggle forever.
Also, the defensive line continues to eat,
but the linebackers made some waves on Thursday.
And then finally, we'll talk injury updates.
We will talk lineup updates as well.
So much to discuss on today's show.

Previewing the Titans preseason game on Saturday night. Then on Saturday night, I'm going to be going bonus episode for you guys previewing the Titans preseason game on Saturday night
then on Saturday night
I'm going to be going live immediately after the game ends
to break down all the action with you guys
and then we'll be right back up
for five straight days of Titans podcast next week
as well as we get closer and closer
to the final preseason game
and ultimately the regular season
but with that being said
do have to dive into the performance on Thursday from Will Levis,
which, again, it was a struggle.
And I think that based on all the reports we've seen coming out of camp,
it has not been a good two days of practice for Will Levis.
Now, that doesn't mean that it's all bad.
Levis had some good throws in short and intermediate situations.
In Wednesday's practice.
It was definitely a better practice on Wednesday.
Thursday, same thing.
I mean, there's a touchdown throw to Mason Kinsey in red zone period,
a couple of big plays, one going to Traylon Burks in particular.
So it's not like it was all bad for Will Levis,
but overall it seemed there was, you know,
either just as much bad or a little bit more bad than the good.
And these are the struggles that you expect from a second-year quarterback going through his first full training camp as the starter.
I mean, you're going to expect some struggles,
but I'm not going to sit up here and sugarcoat it
and act like it's not a little disappointing to hear.
And I think that people need to be less ridiculous,
I guess is the only word that I can think of.
Like, Will Levis struggling in two practices
doesn't mean these long-term things that people think that it does.
And look, talked about some of the good stuff.
There was an interception in red zone 7-on-7,
trying to throw it into Chigaconquo,
got intercepted by Reek Woolen.
There was the worst play of the day.
The Titans go into the two-minute drill,
and on the very first play of the two-minute drill at the end of practice,
whole teams are there watching.
Will Levis' very first play throws an interception to Devon Witherspoon
on an out-breaking route, throwing it to Mason Kinsey.
first play throws an interception to Devon Witherspoon on an out-breaking route,
throwing it to Mason Kinsey.
Now, there's context that needs to be added here.
Obviously, you have no Tyler Boyd out there with a bruised foot.
I know a little bit about a bruised foot.
No DeAndre Hopkins out there.
Josh Wiley left practice early.
Kyle Phillips left practice early. So he's missing some of his top options for sure.
But at the end of the day, we're talking about two interceptions in practice.
Go back to yesterday.
He missed a couple of deep balls to Calvin Ridley.
Now Calvin Ridley did the thumb pointer thing and said,
oh, I slowed down. Those are on me.
But we've seen enough reports that have reported one of them was just clearly a bad throw.
So Calvin Ridley can do the right thing and take the blame all he wants,
but one of those was a bad throw. So we'veley can do the right thing and take the blame all he wants, but one of those was a bad throw. Okay, so we've seen some
missed deep connections. I believe it's three interceptions
and you don't want to get caught up in preseason statistics or anything like that,
but I'm not tracking the statistics. He just threw three picks. I just know
because I've been following the practice reports.
So I just think that it's fair to say that Will Levis struggled in these two practices.
And you've heard people who were literally at the practices saying similar things,
that Will Levis did not play his best in these practices.
And look, one of the big reasons that we were excited to go against the Seattle Seahawks
in the joint practices is because of Mike McDonald's offense,
because of the McDonald's offense,
because of the talent that Seattle has on the defensive side of the ball,
on the D-line, in the secondary.
This is the type of work that you want to get.
But I just want to say this.
It's just so frustrating for me
to see how fickle
some of the fans in the fan base are.
If you put, Traylon Burks is playing really well,
which he made a big play on Thursday as well.
He got a pass over the middle.
Big gainer. Nice play for Traylon Burks.
If you say Traylon Burks is playing awesome,
everybody will say,
oh yeah, Burks, he's going to have a breakout year.
If you say Jaquan Jackson,
who, again, caught some passes
and did some good things on Thursday like he did on Wednesday,
you say Jaquan Jackson is playing well.
Everybody, man, the rookie is going to make an impact.
Like, he's getting a lot better.
He's making his way up the depth chart.
He's finally rounded into shape.
You say the Titans' defensive line, which they did again,
and we'll talk about it in a second.
The Titans defensive line is killing the Seahawks offensive line.
The Titans D-line looks so good.
Tavondre Sweat is so incredible.
Tavondre Sweat's going to be rookie of the year.
Tavondre Sweat, Tavondre Sweat, Tavondre Sweat.
Every practice, killing Cushenberry.
Titans fans are going wild.
Tavondre Sweat.
Tyler, you're an idiot.
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
But then when it's, oh, Calvin Ridley
struggled. Couldn't get all press coverage. Didn't have great
practices. Brandon Gall said that out of the top 10 players
on the team, Calvin Ridley was the worst out of
all top 10 in these two practices. He was the worst player of the
Titans top 10 players in these practices. And was the worst player of the Titans' top 10 players in these practices.
And Will Levis wasn't far behind him.
So when you say Will Levis struggles,
and you say Calvin Ridley struggled,
well, now it's just preseason, nerd.
You're an idiot.
Why do you care about practice?
Why do you care about preseason stats?
Why do you care about training camp?
None of this matters.
So what is it?
So does it matter?
And Sweat is going to be
defensive rookie of the year and Jaquan Jackson is doing well and Traylon Burks has gotten better
and the O-line and the D-line's eaten. Or is it? You can't have both. You can't be excited about
the positives and then say that the negatives don't matter. That's just not how life can work.
And there's a quote from, I think it's like George
Orwell, one of his books. He says, the more a society gets away from the truth, the more they
will hate people who speak it. Okay. So like, let's just accept what it is. And again, this goes back
to my initial point when I started off, just because Will Levis struggled in these two practices doesn't mean that he's going to be bad
or that his struggles will continue forever
or that because, like, I can say to you,
Will Levis struggled in these practices.
And what happens is when I say that,
when I say Will Levis struggled in two practices,
then everybody says, why are you overreacting?
He's going to be fine.
Will Levis is still going to be good.
What do you mean?
Well, I didn't say
that he was going to be bad forever.
I didn't make a long-term overreaction about that.
I just simply said,
Will Levis struggled in these two practices.
And then everybody makes their own implications
and everybody makes their own assumptions
about what that means.
Why can't we just come be at a place where it means what I said?
I said Will Levis struggled in these two practices.
You making that seem like I am saying something else,
that's on you, not me.
I didn't say that.
I don't have to take your bad interpretation of my words seriously.
That's not what I'm saying. So, I just, it's hard
to have any kind of discussions about what's happening when people want to make these broad
long-term assumptions based off, you know, to me
it would be like going into a restaurant that everybody says
is great. This is the best restaurant in town, blah, blah, blah. And you get an item
and you didn't like it. And you say,
well, you know, I got the
chicken parm. It wasn't very good.
What? That's the best restaurant in town.
How can you say it's not good?
I didn't say the restaurant was bad.
I just said I didn't like the chicken parm that I got.
And it doesn't have to be more than that.
So, you know,
just accept things for what they are
and stop trying to put words in people's mouths
of what you think they might be trying to say.
No, Will Leavitt struggled in the two practices.
It doesn't mean that he's going to be terrible.
It doesn't mean that it's time to flush the season down the toilet.
You just hope that he performs better as we get closer to the season.
And then in the season, these things don't crop up
the way that they have during these two joint practices.
Now, Seattle's defense is good. They have a really good defensive coach. And that was the point of the practice, these things don't crop up the way that they have during these two joint practices. Now, Seattle's defense is good.
They have a really good defensive coach.
And that was the point of the practice, to get good work.
And that's what they got.
So, let's talk about the defensive side of the ball
where the Titans defensive line continues to eat.
And most of you guys can say that that matters and is real.
So, we'll get into that.
Before we do, though, do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought to you

We talked about Will Levis and his struggles
and why that doesn't mean some overarching point about his future.
It can just be what it is.
He struggled in these two practices. We're going to talk about his future. It can just be what it is. He struggled in these two practices.
We're going to talk about the defense.
We're also going to do some injury updates
and things like that at the end of the show.

As a reminder, tomorrow, bonus episode, previewing the preseason game,
and then Saturday, we're going to go live after the game
to break down everything that we saw.
Probably not going to be a lot of starters playing
since they did joint practices, which I've been talking about all week,
that Brian Callahan seemed to make that the plan
and make that obvious early in the week
that there wouldn't be a lot of starters playing
in this preseason game because of the joint practices.
So no surprise there, quite honestly.
But with that being said, this tightens the line.
I mean, according to all reports,
just still absolutely eating Seattle's offensive line up.
Bunch of reports about Jeffrey Simmons slamming Lincoln Tomlinson
to the ground in one-on-ones and yelling out,
I do this, crap, I'll say, blah, blah, blah.
Like, Jeffrey Simmons is eating Seattle's offensive line alive
for two days, you know,
to Vondre sweat out there still making work, getting it done next to Jeffrey Simmons.
Like you got to be excited about that Titans defensive line, at least the starting group
to see what they could do with all the, all the reports that we heard out of practice
when it was just Titans versus Titans.
And now the reports that we got out of the Titans joint practices talking about Jeffrey
Simmons and to Vondre Sweat up front.
I mean,
again, for me,
I would like, like,
there isn't a piece of preseason evidence that I think,
oh, just complete nonsense.
Get rid of it.
But also at the same time,
you don't look at anything from the preseason and say,
oh, that's absolutely 100% true. Now we know
Traylon Burks is balling out. He's going to be an all-pro.
You know, like, I just feel like you
should take the information and
shouldn't discard it completely, but always
have a grain of salt as well. And that's just how
we should be with everything. You know
what I mean?
But this Titans-D line, I mean,
there isn't a day, there isn't
a day that goes by where this Titans interior line, I mean, there isn't a day, there isn't a day that goes by
where this Titans interior defensive line doesn't get love.
It's not a single day where we don't hear something about them,
about them making big plays, about Jeff Simmons going nuts
and getting in fights and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
You know what I mean?
Like, at this point, if the Titans interior defensive line
doesn't make a ton of plays in the first month of the season,
I will be disappointed.
And we will know that, okay,
the training camp stuff was a complete blip on the radar.
So I don't think that that's the case.
I think this Titans' starting defensive line,
the starting line with Simmons and Sweat and Landry will be decent.
I think they'll be one of the strengths of the team.
Now it's the depth after those guys that I have been worried about
throughout the summer.
But Chance Campbell, another interception.
In that two-minute drill where I told you Will Levis threw an interception
to Devon Witherspoon on the out route to Mason Kinsey,
the very next drive when the Titans defense came back on the field,
Chance Campbell gets an interception.
Brian Callahan talked about it after practice.
He just keeps making plays.
And what they ask is, look, any of these players,
these are NFL players.
Any of them could have a good day one day,
but can you stack these days?
Can you do it multiple times?
Can you do it with consistency?
That's what makes the great players.
That's what makes the good players,
is consistency.
Like, for example, I can go out and golf and shoot a 42,
which I know some of you guys are probably really good
and you're like laughing like blah, blah, blah,
but that's a good score for me, man.
You know, golf is hard.
Also, I'm not a freak athlete by any means.
Pretty average, quite honestly.
But can I shoot a 42 two days in a row can I shoot a 42
for a month you know nah I'm gonna slide back up to 46 47 45 and being there like I can't stay down
there forever you know and that's the thing that's the difference you know that's the difference
between just your average athlete and the really good athletes, no matter what the level.
It's the consistency, okay?
So Chance Campbell has continued to be consistent,
and he's probably going to play a lot in this game on Saturday night,
and if he continues to make plays, there's just no way he's not going to make the team,
and he might eventually even get a chance to be a starter.
He's just been very consistent.
Back to the D-line thing, do got to mention Jamal Adams.
Like literally everyone is talking about how much Jamal Adams talks.
And that deeply resonates with me personally as a serial talker
and a serial trash talker during sports as well.
Even if I'm losing, I'll talk a little bit of trash every now and then with my buddies.
Might be different if I was out on NFL field losing by multiple touchdowns, but either
way, you know what I'm saying.
Otis Reese.
Otis Reese got the opportunity to run with the first team with Kenneth Murray being out
of the practice.
I'll get to the injury stuff at the end, but Kenneth Murray not at practice.
Everybody relax.
I'll explain.
But Otis Reese had a big hit on Kenneth Murray, according to reports.
We'd like to see Otis Reese get a real opportunity this season.
He's probably going to start on Saturday night.
Like, these games, these preseason games, you could say that they don't matter,
but they matter to somebody.
Like, these are people's jobs on the line every single weekend for these games
that people tell me don't matter.
You know what I mean? Like, we'll sit
here and argue about who should be linebacker
five, linebacker six,
and then say that when
the battles actually take place that it doesn't
matter. You know, it just blows my mind.
Clearly, I'm frustrated by
the conversations
around preseason activities
and practice and stuff like that.
Anyways, away from things that were good on defense,
the defensive backs continue to struggle.
DK Metcalf had a 40-yard touchdown in one of the two-minute drills.
Apparently, it got called back for a holding,
but Quandre Diggs got beat on that one deep. a 40-yard touchdown in one of the two-minute drills. Apparently, it got called back for a holding,
but Quandre Diggs got beat on that one deep.
No Snead, no Cheeto.
Roger McCreary was out for one period,
but he came back, so he's good.
No big deal there.
But, you know, the Titans don't have their top two outside corners.
And Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and Roger McCreary are both going to be better slot corners than anything else.
And then besides that, you have Gabe Judy Lawley and Trey Avery.
And what do you think is going to happen
when DK Metcalf goes against Trey Avery?
We already know. We saw it last season.
It's going to be devastation.
Okay?
So, probably no surprise there that Seattle's passing offense,
at least with DK Metcalf, had a good week because, well,
the Titans don't have their best corners out there.
So what do you expect is going to happen?
But with that being said, that's kind of a roundup of some of the defensive notes.
We're going to talk about injuries.
We're going to talk about lineup stuff.
And I'll give you guys an update on a general idea
of what to expect from the preseason game on Saturday night.

recapping joint practices from Thursday.
Talked about Will Levis' struggles and why it doesn't mean anything long-term.
We talked about the Titans D-line,
absolutely holding it down, and some other notes
on defense as well. Now I want to
get into some injury updates, and then
the final kind of
news that I want to talk about
on the offensive side of the ball. Before we do,

Network your team every day.
But the last player note I want to make,
and I roughly touched on it earlier, but Jaquan Jackson.
Jaquan Jackson. The rookie continues to make plays, and I have started to affectionately call him the famous Jet Jackson, because he looks like a jet out there the way he flies around. I mean, and if any of you are around my age,
you know what a great show on Disney Channel that was.
So Jaquan Jackson is just fast, getting open in one-on-ones, making plays.
He had a big play in the team drills today.
I talked about Traylon Burks earlier.
Jaquan Jackson had a play pretty similar.
Big catch and run.
Maybe not the 70-yard touchdown that he had yesterday,
but still good plays nonetheless.
And look, we'll get into injuries.
Kyle Phillips was hurt.
We know that Mason Kinsey is not an NFL player.
Come on.
Let's not play games.
And Jaquan Jackson is a good returner.
So when you have a guy who has more deep speed
and can run deeper routes than Kyle Phillips,
a guy who is still progressing as a rookie
and learning, I mean, he used to get his information
off a card on the sideline.
And now he's in the huddle hearing plays and stuff.
Like it's taken him some time to adjust,
but now we're starting to see him get comfortable.
We are starting to see Jed Jackson get comfortable
making plays in camp,
getting up with the twos instead of the threes.
I'm very excited about Jaquan Jackson,
what he can do for the Titans,
but I was excited when he got drafted.
I thought this was a great fit,
a guy who can return kicks,
who can be a slot wide receiver
and have that short area quickness,
but also has deep speed as well. I mean,
this is the type of gadget player the Titans have been looking for. Like, so I loved the idea.
But again, he got an opportunity to play with the ones today or play with the twos today because
Tyler Boyd is out and then you had Kyle Phillips go out. So he's probably going to get a lot of
opportunities this weekend. Like, especially if Kyle Phillips is out. So he's probably going to get a lot of opportunities this weekend.
Like, especially if Kyle Phillips is going to be out for any length of time.
And Kyle Phillips went out with a hamstring injury.
And yesterday there were a couple of issues.
But Brian Callahan said it was mostly cramps.
I don't think that Kyle Phillips' hamstring is a cramp, sadly.
I think it's a real hamstring injury.
Now, that doesn't mean that he's going to miss a bunch of time. But I'm just telling you it's not some cramp that we're going to see him
tomorrow. You know what I mean? Speaking of cramps, though, JC Latham, Traylon Burks,
back out on the practice field. So they cramped up on Wednesday. Wednesday was a hellacious practice.
They practiced for two and a half hours. It was hot. It was heavy. It was
an intense practice.
So, makes sense that guys were struggling
and like Calvin Ridley said, he pulled up
on a couple of deep balls because his legs were tired
and stuff like that. Like, you know,
it was a heavy practice and Brian Callahan
even admitted that after Thursday's practice
that Wednesday was heavy. They cut
practice short on Thursday
because of how heavy Wednesday's practice was.
So J.C. Latham back out there.
Latham got in a, like, a tussle with Leonard Williams,
the defensive lineman in Seattle Seahawks.
Apparently, Leonard Williams almost threw a punch,
but, like, held himself back.
At one point, Rancar Thon was on the field
pushing J.C. Latham to get him out of the ruckus.
Like, sounded like Titans offense, Seahawks defense almost came to blows
quite a bit during the practice,
but nothing ever actually tipped over the line or anything like that.
So J.C. Latham, Traylon Burks back in practice.
Kyle Phillips out.
Josh Wiley smashed his head on the ground and was out.
Brian Callahan said he hit his head hard. So they were just
taking precaution. He didn't say that it's like a concussion or anything, but we kind of stumbled
after he got up. If it was in a game, he would be out for the game with concussion protocol for
sure. So, um, would not expect to see Josh Wiley on Saturday night, if I'm honest with you, hope
I'm wrong, but don't think I will be on that. So Wiley and Phillips left.
No Kenneth Murray again.
Brian Callahan said it's just a little tightness in the hamstring,
and they're just being very precautionary,
which I like that the Titans are being precautionary.
We don't want any of these guys going too hard in practice
and getting hurt or anything like that.
So it makes sense.
Again, yesterday was a very demanding practice,
and we're seeing the effects of it a little bit.
For some lineup notes,
again, I told you Otis Reese running with the ones.
Andrew Rupsich continues to get a little bit of time
with the ones at right guard.
And Malik Willis.
Malik Willis got some opportunity with the twos.
And according to Brian Callahan, Malik Willis is some opportunity with the twos and according to Brian Callahan
Malik Willis is going to start on Saturday night
and get a chance to play with the second string
so I'm going to have a full breakdown on Malik Willis' performance
with the second string offense
on the Tic Tac Titans film channel next week
that's going to be the first project that I jump on
once I get my tape
probably Sunday or Monday
so you'll have that as soon as possible.
But Malik, gonna get his chance.
We've been talking about seeing Malik with the backups
and seeing how that goes.
So we'll finally get the opportunity to do it.
But that is gonna do it for me today, folks.
Again, I'll be back with you guys tomorrow
with a bonus episode.
Throw a thumbs up on the video.
Throw a Titan up in the chat.
That'll do it for me today.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland.
And this was Locked on Titans.
