Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis had his best game of the season, even if he was to blame for most of the sacks.
I'll break it down on today's edition of Locked on Titans.

On today's episode, I'm going to tell you why this was Will Levis' best game of the
season and some of the stuff we saw on tape was very exciting, but I'm also going to go
through all seven sacks and explain why most of these sacks are on Will Levis.
And finally, I'm going to tell you that the Tennessee Titans have a good offensive line
despite what you may hear. Before I get into all of it, I do want to thank you for making Tennessee Titans have a good offensive line, despite what you
may hear.
Before I get into all of it, I do want to thank you for making the Locked on Titans

It's your team every day here on the Locked on Titans podcast,
the number one Tennessee Titans podcast in the world.
Shout out to my everydayers out there tuning in Monday through Friday.
Couldn't do it without you guys.
If you're watching on YouTube, throw a thumbs up on the video,
throw a Titan up down in the chat.
And I don't ask for this a lot.
I rarely ever say anything,
but some reviews on Apple podcasts would be very, very helpful midway through the season.
I would appreciate anybody out there who would throw a five-star review
on the podcast.
But with that being said, I went through Will Levis' tape in Week 10.
I watched every single Will Levis throw of the game,
and honestly, I came away very, very encouraged by what I saw.
Now, of course, like we're going to talk about,
I'm going to go through every single sack and what I saw on tape
and why most of them were on Will Levis.
And the data is pretty, I mean, it's comprehensive,
is what I want to say as to who's at fault
for some of the Titans sack issues this year.
But before I get into that, I do want to start with the positives
because there were so many positives on the tape.
I think I charted probably nine bad plays from Will Levis.
Honestly, I would say probably six or seven bad plays from Will Levis
in the game on every single drop back that he had.
I had at least 13, 14, 15 good plays for Will Levis where he did his job.
You know what I mean?
And I think that is a very, very positive step for Will Levis.
And I think some of the stuff that I saw on tape was correctable.
But think about what we saw.
The touchdown throw to Calvin Ridley, the very first one of the game.
He keeps his eyes over to the left side of the field,
brings the safety in to make sure that he can't get over to Calvin Ridley on the backside post,
and then hits Calvin Ridley perfectly in stride.
Again, some people said that ball was a little bit underthrown.
I think that ball was perfect,
and it hit Calvin Ridley right in the chest,
and he walked in for a touchdown.
What more can we ask for in that situation?
You think of the second touchdown to Calvin Ridley,
probably Will Levis' best throw of the day,
a layered, beautiful bucket drop to Calvin Ridley. Probably Will Levis' best throw of the day. A layered, beautiful bucket
drop to Calvin Ridley on a slot fade on the left side of the end zone. I mean, it was absolutely
fantastic. And those are the plays where that's the arm talent that we've seen from Will Levis
that gets you so exciting. Not only that, but anticipatory throws. Throwing with anticipation.
Not something that you see a ton on Will Levis' tape
and something that as he gets more experience,
hopefully he can get better at,
but he threw two slants to NWI
and then had an in route as well
where he threw the ball perfectly with anticipation.
What the Chargers were doing in this game
is they were running split field coverage.
They would basically run cover four
on one side of the field with two deep
quarters, and then you would have a curl guy, and then you would have a hook defender on the inside,
and then on the backside of it, they would run a three-man coverage where they would have a guy in
the flat, they would have a guy on the hook on the inside intermediate, and they would have a deep
half. So they're playing cover two on one side, cover four on the other, kind of a cover six,
if you will, but it's split field coverage is what I like to call it. They're playing cover two on one side, cover four on the other, kind of a cover six, if you will, but it's split field coverage
is what I like to call it.
They're running two different coverages, and Will Levis on the backside
where they were running cover two perfectly allowed his wide receiver
to curl inside the linebacker on the hook curl,
and he was perfectly anticipating where NWI was going to be
and hit him right in the chest.
There were multiple throws where he was able to do that
on the backside of the Chargers split field coverage.
So that sort of stuff gets you really excited about him
starting to really see the defense
and understand what he's going to be getting and feeling confident
because in both of those throws, he was taking pressure.
There were guys on him.
He had to let that ball go in time,
and he had to anticipate it or it would have been too late and he would have been sacked if he had to see that ball go in time, and he had to anticipate it, or it would have been too late, and he would have been sacked
if he had to see it come open.
So that's the type of stuff that will help Will Levis take less sacks as well,
continuing to throw with anticipation.
He did have a few misses out there.
I'm not going to act like, you know, they weren't there.
The out route to NWI on third and six, he just threw the ball far too outside,
and it was an inaccurate pass.
It was a bad throw.
Now there was a penalty that would have negated it, even if he caught it. But still, we are judging the down-to-down performance.
There were a couple miscommunications, at least two miscommunications,
with Calvin Ridley in terms of Levis throws to a spot,
and Ridley is in a different spot.
Again, that's correctable stuff right there.
And then you look at the run game.
Will Levis had two design runs in this one,
both in short yardage situations.
One was a design quarterback lead where the Titans are in five wide
and you have a guard and a tackle pull around to the inside
and lead Levis through the hole.
And then you had a quarterback sweep out of five wide
where they faked a jet sweep
and then Levis took off around
the outside with two pullers in front of him. I really like the idea of doing that with Will
Levis. He's a guy who wants to play physical football and you don't want him taking shots
whatsoever. But at the same time, if you let Will Levis run the football a little bit on designed
runs, I think it keeps him in the game and I think he gets excited to do it. So I like that the
Titans did that. A couple of scrambles in this game, and I think he gets excited to do it. So I like that the Titans did that.
A couple of scrambles in this game that were pretty impressive where Will Levis not only got first down yardage
but was able to slide down and protect himself.
There was one second down in the red zone where he did not do that,
and he took some shots up the middle.
But again, he's a physical guy who's going to want to run the ball.
So you look at the anticipatory throws.
You look at some of the excellent throws to Calvin Ridley for touchdowns.
You look at the clean operation as well, the screen passes, the quick outs,
the little short stuff, the quick timing stuff.
He was so much better on all of those kind of operational things
where the play is going to be open.
You just need to not mess up.
They're the layups.
He got all of his layups.
He made some excellent throws as well
with the anticipatory throws to NWI.
And then think about the post route
that he threw to Bryce Oliver
for Bryce Oliver's first catch of his career.
Like the two anticipatory throws,
the two touchdown throws to Calvin Ridley,
the post to Bryce Oliver.
Those are excellent throws.
So five excellent throws,
a ton of clean plays,
some good runs designed and on scramble, and then really just five or six bad plays counting the
three or four sacks that he was responsible for. And then a couple of miscommunications and a bad
throw to NWI. He really only had one inaccurate pass the entire day that was just he needed to throw a better pass.
That is encouraging stuff.
Now, I'm not going to tell you that Will Levis is going to become elite,
and he still has some major problems that if he doesn't correct,
it's never going to click for him.
But this was by far his best game of the year, even with all of that being said.
So let's talk about these sacks, because that's a big topic coming out of this game.
Who is responsible for the sacks?
By my count, Will Levis was responsible for four out of the seven,
but I'll break down what happened on every single one of them.

I told you guys what I saw from Will Levis on tape that has me very, very excited.
It was his best game of the year.
But the reality is a lot of these sacks are on Will Levis.
And we're going to go through every single one of them.
At the end of the show, I'm going to explain why the Tennessee Titans have a good offensive line.
Not a bad offensive line.
Like some people like to say.
Before I get into it, I do want to thank you again for making Locked on Titans your first listen.

It's your team every day.
So, looking at the sacks,
all right, I'm literally going to go one by one
because in my charting,
from what I see on tape,
four of those sacks are on Will Levis.
There are two sacks that are totally inexcusable
by Will Levis.
There are two sacks where he held the ball too long,
and then there are three sacks where
you could probably blame it on somebody else.
And honestly, the third of those sacks, we're going to talk about it.
I don't know if it's necessarily on Will Levis, but he definitely could have avoided it, but
I see why he didn't.
But at the end of the day, most of the sacks are on Will Levis.
And at the end of the show, when I tell you why I think the Titans have a good offensive
line, I'm going to show you some particular numbers that point even further in this direction
that Will Levis is the primary reason for most of these sacks.
Now, looking at the first sack of the game
for the Titans against the Chargers,
Will Levis takes a rollout,
and he's on the sideline,
and Chigaconquo is open about seven yards in front of him.
Why Will Levis doesn't throw the ball to Chigaconquo?
I don't really know.
He's open.
Fire it in.
He points to Chig and tells Chig to go block.
But there's a linebacker coming downhill at him.
There's a defensive end on his tail.
There's no way that Will Levis is going to be able to get something out of this
if he tucks and runs.
Even if Chigaconquo blocks the defensive back that's in front of him.
So to me, that is a decision-making problem for Will Levis.
You have to hammer that home to Chigaconquo,
or you have to throw the ball out of bounds.
Instead, he takes a sack.
Now, he only loses one yard on it, but he takes a sack.
And then people say, oh, the Titans had seven sacks.
The offensive line is bad.
But that is purely on Will Levis.
It's a play-action rollout.
Throw the ball to Chig on the sideline when he's open
or throw the ball out of bounds.
The worst thing you can do is take a hit
and take a sack where you lose a yard.
It just, it's a bad decision.
So to me, there is no question, there is no debate.
That sack is on Will Levis, 100%.
Sack number two, Dylan Radins
gets beat to his edge. Dylan Radins gets beat to his right-hand shoulder on the outside. Now,
Will Levis could have stepped up a little bit in the pocket, I think, but at the end of the day,
after watching it on tape, there's no way I'm going to blame Will Levis for Dylan Radins simply
getting beat. And now look, Dylan Radins is not the best guard in the NFL, but Dylan
Radins has been more than serviceable this year. And I think the Titans should resign him. So,
you know, offensive linemen are going to give up sacks. The Titans are never going to have
zero sacks for an entire season. You're going to see him here and there. And I thought Dylan
Radins played decently well, even if Dylan Radins was the reason for sack number two,
I'm not going to blame Will Levis for that after seeing it on tape.
When I saw it in real time, I'm like, Levis, step up.
But I think that Dylan Radins got beat a little bit too quick.
So that's where I'm at on sack number two.
Sack number three is another unexcusable sack.
Will Levis does a play-action rollout,
and Josh Wiley is on a corner route,
and Josh Wiley is open.
And Will Levis has time,
you have to find a way to get that ball out of your hands to Josh Wiley. And again, if you don't
like it for whatever reason, if you don't like Josh Wiley on that corner route, which I think
you should have liked Josh Wiley on that corner route, but if you don't, okay, understandable,
throw it out of bounds. Instead, Will Levis loses another couple of yards
just trying to extend the play all the way
when the ball already should have been out of his hand.
Now, let me say this in the middle of this.
Tomorrow at 8 a.m. or Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. Eastern time,
I'm going to have a full Will Levis film breakdown
out on the Tic Tac Titans YouTube channel.
I have the link to that YouTube channel down below in the description.

I'm going to break down all the good throws that I was telling you about to start today's episode.

that we're having on the Locked on Titans podcast.
So go to the Tic Tac Titans YouTube channel and get subscribed right now.
But again, number three, another rollout where it's solely on Will Levis.
You can't blame an offensive lineman.
So two out of the first three sacks of the game are on Will Levis.
And you know, you just can't have that.
You can't have your quarterback running into sacks.
You've got to have the wherewithal to throw it away
or throw it to somebody open.
It's that simple.
Now, sack number four is on John Ajuku.
John Ajuku gets folded in by one of the edge rushers
for the Los Angeles Chargers,
and there's nothing that Will Levis could have done.
So, you know, two out of four right now
have been on the Titans' offensive line.
Then sack number five is a play- action pass where Joey Bosa is double teamed
by Nick Vanette and Tajay Spears.
And both of them lose.
Now, what you could say is, why do you have a tight end and a running back
trying to block Joey Bosa?
But what the Titans are trying to do is they're trying to slide J.C. Latham
and the entire offensive line to the right-hand side so that they can take
three on five and help Leroy Watson
and help John Ajuku and help Dylan Radins. And then if you have the running back come back to
the backside with the tight end and have them double team an edge rusher, that in theory should
work, but it doesn't always work against Joey Bosa. I thought on that one, Will Levis needed
to get the ball out of his hands a little bit quicker, he could have dumped the ball down to Chig Aconquo,
but it was third and 14,
and Aconquo was probably only five yards down the field,
and maybe he's thinking, hey, we're down big in the second half.
If I dump this off to Chig, he probably doesn't get it,
and then we're punting, so I'm going to hold the ball and look downfield.
That happened a couple of times with Will Levis,
and you know what?
I understand, but in this particular case, with this particular sack,
which I'm going to break down,
I think if you get it to Chigaconkwo,
he has a good chance to run and get the first down.
So that sort of decision-making and calibrating when to throw,
when to throw it away, when to take the sack,
because at the end of the day, that's the safest thing.
It's a tough thing to do.
Playing quarterback is tough in the NFL,
but that was definitely on Spears and Vanette overall.
So three out of the five sacks so far in the first five of the game,
I would say were on other people, not Will Levis.
But the last two sacks are both by Bud Dupree
where he's rushing against J.C. Latham,
and Latham does a good job getting in front,
and Levis is just holding the ball, going forward,
holding the ball, going forward.
And the thing is, is both of them are on first and 10.
And it's like, you know, it's first and 10.
I get that you're down by multiple scores,
and you want to push the ball down the field,
but at the end of the day, it's first and 10.
Just either run or dump it off.
He had opportunities to do both.
Pro Football Focus didn't credit J.C. Latham with a sack in this game,
despite both of those sacks being on J.C. Latham with Bud Dupree against him.
Why?
Because Will Levis was holding the ball too long in both of those circumstances.
So to me, I would say four out of the seven sacks were on Will Levis.
And one of the sacks that isn't on Will Levis,
he could have gotten rid of the ball a little bit earlier.
But situationally, I understand why maybe he was trying to force it down the field.
On one of these Dupree sacks that were the final two,
I mean, it's like, well, one of them was first and 10,
but one was third and forever.
It was like third and 20.
And the Titans are running all streaks, all go routes down the field,
and Levis is just trying to climb the pocket and wait for someone to come open
so he can throw the ball down the field.
I can't really blame him for that one.
So really, three out of the seven sacks I thought were a bad job by Will Levis.
So he is mostly to blame,
and the numbers also point that out from a season-long perspective.
We're going to talk about that because the reality is,
my point here,
the Titans don't have a bad offensive line.

Titans fans, let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
Really stepping into the tape breakdown of Will Levis
and explaining exactly what I've seen on tape.
We talked about the good stuff that has you excited.
We talked about the sacks and how Will Levis needs to help his offensive line out.
And I just want to give even more credit to this Tennessee Titans offensive line.
Guys, you look at the second quarter of the NFL season
since the bye week, really the game before the bye week against Miami,
this Tennessee Titans offensive line has been good.
They haven't been incredible.
It's not the Detroit Lions offensive line by any means,
but outside right tackle, they have been excellent.
Okay, J.C. Latham, Peter Skowronski, Lloyd Cushenberry,
and I thought Daniel Brunskill played very well in this game. Even Dylan Radins. Dylan Radins is
probably the fourth best starter on the team, but he's had a very good year. And again, I think the
Tennessee Titans need to resign Dylan Radins. If you want to point to a problem with the Titans
offensive line, it's right tackle. Don't say that the Titans have
a bad offensive line. No, they have a bad right tackle spot. Everything else has been very solid.
If Dylan Radins was your fifth best offensive lineman, the Titans would be absolutely cooking
if they had a competent right tackle this year. So this Titans offensive line has made massive
improvements. And again, I don't want to hear that they have a bad O-line because they don't.
And quite honestly, Will Levis makes the offensive line look worse
than it actually is.
I'll give you some numbers to prove my point.
Before I do, thanks again for making Locked On Titans
your first listen for your second listen.

I want to throw some numbers at you guys here. I did some research on Monday morning to kind of see
how things compared between Will Levis and Mason Rudolph. On yesterday's podcast, we already had the data from the game that Will
Levis' time to sack was one of the highest in the NFL this week. It was over four seconds,
showing that Will Levis was holding the ball a long time by the time that he got sacked.
You know, that's just the truth. And when you look at some of these numbers, it proves it out. So Will Levis' time to throw, this is the average amount of time
it took Will Levis to throw the football in Week 10 was 2.87 seconds.
That was the 12th slowest in the NFL in Week 10 so far
without the Monday night football game being played, obviously.
So 12th slowest.
So he was holding on to the ball a little bit.
His pressure to sack rate, which is how many pressures ended up in sacks,
was 50%.
Half of the time when Will Levis got pressured, it turned into a sack.
That was the worst in the NFL in Week 10 outside of Monday night football.
The worst.
So if you're getting pressure on Will Levis,
you're getting sacks on Will Levis
because he's not getting rid of the ball quick enough
and he's making silly decisions like not throwing the ball out of bounds.
Now, you want some comparison.
Let's look at Mason Rudolph.
In Mason Rudolph's four appearances this year,
his average time to throw is 2.63 seconds.
So that's more than two-tenths of a second quicker
that he's getting the ball out of his hands than Will Levis.
His pressure to sack percentage is 11.6.
So 50% of the time when Will Levis is pressured,
it turns into a sack.
Only 11.6% of the time when Mason Rudolph is pressured,
does it turn into a sack.
That right there shows that Will Levis is holding the ball
just a little bit too long.
And because he does that, he is not handling the pressure well
and it's turning into sacks.
That's why Mason Rudolph
makes this offensive line look way better, because he's getting the ball out of his hands. Now,
what the Titans really need is a happy medium here, all right? Because Mason Rudolph isn't
throwing the ball downfield with any consistency or any success. Will Levis is able to do that
little bit. So I'm not asking Will
Levis to do exactly what Mason Rudolph is doing. That's what Levis tried to do against the Colts.
He had his quickest time to throw of the year with like 2.27 seconds, if I recall. But the Titans
need a happy medium there because Levis is holding it a little too long and Mason Rudolph was getting
rid of it just a little bit too quick. Okay. So I would like to see the happy medium of that.
And for Will Levis to do that,
he's just got to speed up his processing a little bit
and make better decisions.
And if you want one more piece of data,
just to drive this home,
Will Levis on the field
has taken 22 sacks this year
and 148 passing attempts.
22 sacks.
Mason Rudolph has taken six sacks in 128 attempts.
So that's 20 less attempts from Levis to Rudolph
and 16 less sacks.
Again, we gotta have a happy medium here
of Levis holding the ball and turning into sacks
and making his offensive line look bad
and Rudolph getting the ball out of his hands
maybe a little too quick to not take advantage
of some of the downfield stuff that Brian Callahan has called.
So again, I thought Will Levis had his best game of the year.
I was impressed by what I saw.
I think a lot of it is correctable stuff.
But at the end of the day,
whether you want to look at the film,
whether you want to look at the data,
Will Levis is making a good offensive line
look worse than they actually are.
And I just want to say
that all of us,
all of us hoped
that the Tennessee Titans offensive line would be as good as they are right now.
That's what we hope for in the offseason.
You know what? They are.
Right tackle is still a major problem,
but if you listen to this podcast, my everydayers will know,
I was worried about right tackle,
and I didn't think the Titans did enough to address it in the off season. They needed another free agent signing and they didn't go out and do
it because they wanted to try out Nicholas Petit Ferrer or Jalen Duncan or John Ajuku or Leroy
Watson or Garan Christian or all these different options. And that was a mistake. That was a
mistake. They did not have the answer in house., again, I'm excited by what I saw from Will Levis on tape.
I'm going to have that breakdown
on the Tic Tac Titans YouTube channel,
8 a.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday morning.
With that being said,
if he just cleans up his timing and gets rid of the ball,
he's going to help the O-line.
He's going to help the offense.
But,
this is a good offensive line, and don't forget it.
So there you go.
That's going to do it for today's show.
