Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - The Tennessee Titans saw an insane weekend in the NFL unfold and as the dust settles, Cam Ward seems to be the only logical option at quarterback
Episode Date: March 10, 2025The Tennessee Titans saw an insane weekend in the NFL unfold and as the dust settles, Cam Ward seems to be the only logical option at quarterback as the free agent pickings grow slimmer. Harold Landry... was cut over the weekend as well in a move that the Titans were smart to make, but now they have a massive need on the edge even though that need already existed before the cut. Finally, the offensive line needs some help, but the solutions in free agency are not plentiful if they don't want to spend. Tyler goes over his full free agency plan for the Titans. Work on some film stuff with the free agency.
You want to make sure that you stick around with Locked on Titans.
But with that being said, again, we saw a ton of quarterback dominoes
start to fall over the weekend.
That lead me to believe that cam ward is the pick for the Tennessee
Titans at number one overall.
So first and foremost, Gino Smith gets traded to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Number one, what that does is that sets up the Raiders to not be a player
in the quarterback market, which eliminates a potential trade up option.
The Seahawks are at like pick 18.
They're not going to trade up all the way to number one.
The Raiders might've.
So that removes some leverage for the Tennessee Titans because now the
Raiders are not a trade-up candidate.
With that, it sounds like the Seattle Seahawks are trying to get Sam Donald, and if they don't get Sam Donald, they're going to get Aaron Rodgers, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
It sounds like they want to get Justin Fields, and if they can't, they're going to go after Sam Donald.
They just traded for DK Metcalf. Crazy NFL news.
But it sounds like Sam Darnold could end up
with the Seahawks or the Steelers.
That eliminates a possibility.
And then Aaron Rodgers would go to the team
that doesn't get Sam Darnold, the Seahawks or the Steelers.
And then Justin Fields goes to the New York Jets.
And then Russell Wilson,
who was approached by the Giants last year,
would then become the veteran option
for the New York Giants.
And then Justin Fields again with the Jets, Russell Wilson with the Giants.
Derek Carr stayed with the New Orleans Saints. Kirk Cousins isn't being released.
So what are the options for the Titans? If Sam Darnold, Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers,
Justin Fields are all off the market,
Derek Carr and Kirk Cousins aren't available, that doesn't leave anyone that can be a legitimate starter for the Tennessee Titans.
There are no more starting options that you can realistically say,
hey, this is going to be our starting quarterback this year.
If you want to bring in a, you know, a Mac Jones, a Zach Wilson and say,
they're going to compete with Will Levis.
Fine.
But Brian Callahan's getting fired.
That's not a real starting option.
You have two backup quarterbacks that you're going to have fight with each other.
Whether you bring in a Garner Mintchew, I would even say a
Jameis Winston, a Jacoby Brissette, a Joe Flacco.
Those are all guys who aren't legitimate starters in the NFL today.
They're high level backups.
So I'm sorry, but if I'm Brian Callahan, there's no way in the world that you can
tell me and look me and my coaching staff in the eye and say that you're giving
us a realistic chance to keep our jobs.
in the eye and say that you're giving us a realistic chance to keep our job.
If you give us Will Levis and Mac Jones, Zach Wilson, James Winston, Jacoby Brissette, Garner Mentsch, Joe Flacco, there's no way, there's no way
you can look me in the eye and say that those are realistic starting options,
that you're not just setting me up for failure.
Now, if Brian Callahan has an agreement that he won't be fired no matter what happens this year because of the quarterback
situation, then fine, then fine. But I very, very severely doubt
that Brian Callahan has a guarantee that he'll be the coach in 2026.
So again, if all of those options are off the board and the only
other options left are quite frankly disaster options where you're going to take the season going with Will Levis and Zach Wilson would be like Garner Mintchew and Aiden O'Connell, but worse, you know, like you're going to die that there is no living with that scenario. So again, based on
what I have just laid out here, how could it not be Cam Ward? What is the only
other realistic option, the only other realistic option at quarterback is for
the Titans to pick one number one overall. And if you trade the pick to the New York Giants, then Cam Ward's going to
go number one overall. And then Shadr Sanders is going to go number two to the
Browns. And then what do you do? Again, I have said it over and over and over
again. My preference would be to trade down and pick Abdul
Carter at number three, that would be, if they could go quarterback, quarterback
Carter and the Titans trade down, get a first round pick and next year's draft.
That would be the ideal scenario.
But I have also said repeatedly, if they want to go quarterback, I'm in.
And at the end of the day, when you look at the way the dominoes are falling
right now in the NFL, the only logical option that the Titans have to go at
quarterback that would not be a downright tank of the season is Cam Ward at
number one overall, period, period.
So if you keep that in mind, and then you look at free agency,
what would free agency look like if you know that Cam Ward is your pick at number one overall?
Well, to me, you bring in Jacoby Brissette.
Jameis Winston or Jacoby Brissette would immediately become my target at quarterback.
What the Titans have said is, we want a veteran player that can teach a young quarterback how to prepare, how to watch film, how to get ready, how to take care of their body, how to be a professional.
Jacoby Brissett is the perfect person to do that. He just did it for Drake May.
He understands where he's at at this point in his career, Jacoby Brissett would be the perfect, perfect veteran
backup quarterback for Cam Ward. Would absolutely love that for the Titans. So that would be my
option and the Titans have $60 million in cap space. So they have the ability to make moves
that they need to make and getting a solid veteran
backup. You can't have Cam Ward and Will Levis. You cannot have Cam Ward and Will Levis as your
two quarterbacks. You can't do that. I'm sorry. Not here for that. Not buying that. Will Levis
would need to be traded and you bring in a veteran quarterback to go with Cam Ward as the number one
overall pick. That's what I think the Titans are going to do right now.
I think cam ward is the pick.
And then you bring in Jacoby Brissette as a backup quarterback.
Jamis Winston as a runner up for me.
But if they don't go with an option like that, and they go with a
Zach Wilson or a Mack Jones or something, then just know Brian
Callahan is going to be fired by Thanksgiving
because that means they're not going Cam Warden the Drag.
But again, $60 million in cap space.
How are they going to spend it?
I like Jacoby Brassetta as a backup, but what about the O line?
What about defense?
I'm diving into a full free agency preview right now.

Titans fans, let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
It's a free agency preview. We went over all of the big news in the NFL over the weekend and why all of those quarterback dominoes, I think, start to fall in a way where the Titans are taking Cam Warden number one overall.
They don't really have a lot of other options. Do want to mention Josh Allen gets a massive contract, $55 million a year.
DK Metcalf traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, $33 million a year.
Crazy stuff going on in the NFL with the Geno Smith trade, but the Titans were involved in the weekend
transaction cycle as well when they finally cut edge rusher, Harold Landry.
Now that move saves the Titans $11 million in salary cap.
It's $13 million in dead money.
Look, I love Harold Landry.
Harold Landry has been one of my favorite Tennessee Titans of the.
You know, past decade, I've always been a big Harold Landry Stan, uh, early
in his career, he had that dip.
He had that bend.
He had that speed off the edge.
He would be physical in the run game.
He could drop back into coverage and be versatile.
I've always been a big fan of his personality and his work ethic out on the field.
But the reality is he was one of the least productive starting pass
rushers in the NFL last year.
When you look at some of the advanced analytics, his pressure rate, uh, it was bad.
It was one of the worst in the NFL at the end of the day.
And Harold Landry get cut by the Titans.
And then immediately going back to Mike Vrabel in the Pittsburgh or in the
new England Patriots for, you know, $46 million in three years.
I, I just think he got overpaid. I don't think that harrowlanders that level of player at the end of the day. I thought the Titans could keep him around and
Still find a way to either get him on a pay cut
You know try to work something out but that wasn't it tenable for the Titans and it makes sense
But that wasn't it tenable for the Titans and it makes sense roster wise at this point to save that money and look to get a replacement. So with that in mind on the defensive side of the ball, what could the Titans do in free agency with their 60 million dollars in cap space?
Well, obviously they have a need on the edge.
Now, in my opinion, Harold Landry getting cut doesn't mean the Titans
are taken out of the corridor.
And it doesn't mean that the Titans are going to do something crazy
and free agency because quite frankly, the Titans need at the edge
is still the same.
Harold Landry had fallen back in talent level to a point where the
Titans needed to edge rushers with Harold Landry.
So they still need to edge rushers without him.
And I think one of those edge rushers needs to come in free agency,
and one needs to come in a great edge rush class in the NFL draft.
Excuse me. With that being said, on the edge in free agency,
top of the market, I think you look at Josh Schwett.
Josh Schwett from the Philadelphia Eagles, 8.5 sacks last year. It's a name a lot of Titans fans want. I do not want Joshwett. Josh Shwett from the Philadelphia Eagles, eight and a half sacks last year.
It's a name a lot of Titans fans want. I do not want Josh Shwett. I think Josh Shwett is a good
player, but he had a lot to do with, or he, his success had a lot to do with the rotation that
they had in Philadelphia. I think paying Josh Shwett 15 to $20 million a year would be as big
of a mistake as paying Bud Dupree $18 million a year.
He's a good player. He's not a great player worth that contract. I would like to pass on Josh Schwett.
Some people I do like though, that would be more mid-range costs, about, you know, $7 to $11 million a year.
Charles Amenahue, who's kind of an inside-outside tweener, like a Danico Autry style player,
who could play with his hand in the dirt as a defensive end, play on the inside, pass rush,
be physical against the run, Chief's connection with Borgonzzi.
I think that a guy like Patrick Jones, who was a rotational pass rusher for the Minnesota Vikings,
would make a ton of sense for the Titans.
I liked Baron Browning.
Baron Browning's off the board.
He went back to the Arizona Cardinals on a two-year deal.
So not going to get my wish with Baron Browning, but it would have
been a good move for the Titans.
Of course, you have big older names like Joey Bosa, Khalil
Mack, Von Miller who got released.
I don't want any of those older guys.
They don't fit the timeline.
So Charles Amenahue,
Patrick Jones, Malcolm Coons is another name from the Raiders, but he's got some injury issues. I'd
probably pass there. Daryl Taylor could make some sense as a rotational edge rusher. Trashawn Wharton
is a guy who can kind of play inside outside as well from the Kansas City Chiefs. I think he could make a lot of sense for interior defensive line depth.
Joe Tryon, short, Sri Lanka from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
I liked him coming out of college out of Washington.
I would like the Titans to go make a move right there as well.
That makes sense.
A younger player and Joe Tryon who could fit with the Titans on the interior
defensive line bring back Sebastian Joseph Day.
I think a guy like TJ Slayton from the Packers makes a ton of
sense. Dramont Jones from the Seahawks could be an option. Milton Williams
from the Eagles is a high-end option on the interior D line. I'm out on that.
Uh, John Allen got released by Washington. I think that could make a ton of sense,
but he is a guy who probably wants to compete. He's played three technique.
They have Jeffrey Simmons, but he would be great depth on the D line.
I just don't see it.
So TJ Slayton and Sebastian Joseph day to go along with Keandre Kober and Tevondre Sweat,
Jeffrey Simmons, you draft an interior defensive lineman in the draft.
That's a good six set, which I think is the minimum that you need on the interior defensive
line for the 53 man roster.
Then you go to linebacker and Nick Bolton back to the chiefs, Jamie
and Sherwood back to the jets, Zach bond back to the Eagles, like.
A ton of inside linebackers ended up back with their teams.
So the market isn't very strong.
You're looking at Dre Greenlaw, Robert Spillane, Kazir White.
I continue to say at linebacker, sure, you could sign another veteran
like a Kenneth Murray level veteran, but the Titans haven't cut
Kenneth Murray yet.
So if they're keeping Kenneth Murray, I don't want to put another Kenneth
Murray level contract into linebacker Cedric gray, James Williams, one of
those guys needs to step up and draft the linebacker on day three in the NFL draft.
The Titans need to do what the chiefs have been doing.
Just draft inside off ball linebackers every year in the mid rounds of the draft
and continuously cycle through them. But look, I think a guy like Willie gay could make some
sense for the Tennessee Titans. If they go out and make that kind of move, I would be
interested there. But for the most part, I don't really want an off ball linebacker because
that's not how I want to divvy out the assets to build a roster.
You pay elite level linebackers.
You don't pay Aziz Alshayar.
You don't pay Kenneth Murray.
You don't pay Nick Bolton.
You don't pay Jamie and Sherwood.
What they're getting paid.
You pay elite level linebackers.
You pay elite level interior offensive linemen.
You pay elite level safeties. You pay elite level tight ends.
You pay elite level running backs.
But if they're not elite at those positions, then you simply don't pay.
And you go with a day three, day two pick and you get value veterans in free agency.
So that's how that needs to be approached.
But I think Kazir White and Willie gay could make sense for the Titans.
If they do go with another veteran linebacker, bring back Darryl Baker, baby.
That's the only move at cornerback.
You got Ligeria Snead, Cheeto Cheeto Bayouzier, Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
Roger McCreary, bring back Darryl Baker.
That's all they need to do.
You don't need to do.
You don't need to sign a cornerback if you're the Titans.
Go to safety though.
The Titans do need to make them.
I think safety is what you can actually get a difference maker.
You're not getting one at linebacker.
You're not getting one at edge.
You're not getting one on the interior defensive line, in my opinion,
but it's safety because the safety market is, do you remember last year we were Justin Simmons, Marcus May, quandary digs.
Like there were so many veteran safeties available in the summertime last year
that it deflates what the top end of the market can get paid.
Why would I pay you this much money when there are so many value veterans?
So that makes the safety market down a little bit.
So for 15 to 17, maybe 18 million a year, you could get Jevon Holland,
who I think would be the best splash signing that the Titans could make on defense.
And we've heard that the Titans are interested.
Outside of him, Trevon Moregg, who's more of a towards the line of scrimmage safety, but
still only 25, 26 years old Travon Mo-Rick who played for the Raiders.
I think would be a great pickup.
Uh, Andre Cisco, if you want somebody to play in the backend and be a free
safety and get interceptions, Andre Cisco from Jacksonville would be a great decision.
So those are guys that I make sense.
Justin Reed is a name that came from Kansas City. So maybe there's a connection there, but I think the Reed is, uh, he's an older player, the oldest of the names that I've talked about here.
And he's more of a box safety than anything. So for me, Charles, many you Patrick Jones, Sebastian Joseph day, TJ Slayton,
Kazir white, Willie gay, bring back Darrell Baker, Javon Holland,
Trevon mo reg, Andre Cisco.
Those are the guys that I'm looking at for the Titans.
And hopefully by this time tomorrow on Monday, we've gotten news that the Titans
have made some sort of move, but
that big move could actually come on offense and specifically
the offensive line. I'll go over all of my targets on that
side of the ball. Do you want to let you guys know that today's
episode is brought to you by Fan Duel Sportsbook March Madness

Let's continue and cap off today's edition of
the Locked on Titans podcast. Free agency preview here. I
talked about why I think all of the NFL news over the weekend
leads to Cam Ward being a Tennessee Titan. Went over my
defensive targets in free agency that I think make the
most sense. Now, I want to go to the offensive targets in
free agency and obviously, we got to talk about the offensive line. Before I continue, do you want to go to the offensive targets in free agency. And obviously we got to talk about the offensive line.
Before I continue, do you want to remind you the Tennessee Titans have $60 million of cap space available.
I don't expect them to make more than maybe one big splash move, but they do need to make a good amount of smaller moves.
So I think the Tennessee Titans with re-signing some of their in-house free agents and then bringing in new free agents should sign anywhere from 11 to 15 players.
I think you're going to be signing deals with the Tennessee Titans over the next few weeks or so.
So with that in mind, we move to offense and I look at the offensive line.
I think that the Tennessee Titans need to draft both spots.
I think they need to sign a veteran at both spots, but you can't afford to go super expensive at both.
Okay, you can't afford to give out a high price offensive
tackle contract and a high priced interior offensive line contract. You need to pick
one. And at the end of the day, when you look at the options, I think interior offensive
line presents one really, really good option that isn't available at all offensive tackle.
You look at offensive tackle. Ronnie Stanley went back.
You basically have cam Robinson, Dan Moore, Morgan Moses, and Jedrick wills.
Outside of that, I don't know that I see any starting offensive tackles.
I don't know that I see that.
So cam Robinson really is just a left tackle.
If you draft, if you sign Cam Robinson, you got to move JC
Latham to right tackle.
I just don't think that that's the best move for the future for the Tennessee Titans.
Dan Moore is a guy who for the Pittsburgh Steelers has played a bunch of different
spots on the offensive line, right tackle, left tackle.
But here's the reality.
Dan Moore gave up 12 sacks and 40 pressures last
year. Do the Titans want to give 13 to 15 million dollars to a guy who gave up 40 pressures and 12
sacks? My answer is hell no, I'm not doing that. So if I'm not paying Cam Ward, I'm not going after mid Dan Moore.
I'm sorry.
If the Steelers don't want Dan Moore on their offensive line with
how bad their O line was, what are we doing?
Then that leaves you 34 year old Morgan Moses.
Who reportedly the Jets want back.
And outside of that, you got Jedrick
Wills, who's going to turn 26, who I've continued to say is the right move at
right tackle for the Titans. Jedrick Wills played left tackle for the Browns,
but he was a right tackle in college. He got moved to left tackle by Bill
Callahan. So reunite Bill Callahan with Jedrick wills, get the best back out of him, have him play right tackle.
Then you go into the NFL draft and you draft a right tackle with a high pick again.
And then hopefully Latham is your left tackle. The rookie you drafted is your right tackle.
And Jedrick wills is your swing tackle for the next three seasons.
You have depth, you have upside, you have youth, you have length. That's the move to fix right
tackle for the Titans. Which means that I think the big interior or the big move for the Titans
and free agency on the O line should probably come from the interior. Now that Trey Smith is off the board,
the best option that remains is Will Freeze. Will Freeze from the Indianapolis Colts broke
his leg at the beginning in the first month of the season last year, but it's a broken
leg, not an ACL or anything like that. So I think that Freeze should be back, should be ready to go, should be healthy,
shouldn't be a problem. And if the Titans are going to give out a big contract on the
offensive line, I think will freeze is the only player that makes sense. I'm not giving
a big contract to Tevin Jenkins, who's always hurting, been a disappointment out of Oklahoma
state. I'm not giving a big contract to Mackay Bekton, who has been known as a knucklehead, who doesn't work hard, who, yeah, he worked in Philadelphia
with an incredibly strong locker room, but the Titans are trying to build
their culture. It's not set.
Mackay Bekton is a killer of culture.
You do not bring him in to a young team like the Titans.
So I don't want Mackay Bekton. Brandon Scherff, look, like with
Morgan Moses at offensive tackle, Brandon Scherff, 33 years old, he would solve the problem for one
year. If you want to make sure that you have the best offensive line possible, then sure, go get
Morgan Moses, go get Brandon Scherff, have the right side of your offensive line be 33 and 35 and just admit that we couldn't solve this in the draft.
We're not going to attack it super hard in the draft.
We're just going to do this for a year and get the best align
that we possibly can.
Sure.
Sure.
They could do that if they want to, you know, I, I guess they could do that.
But for me, again, I'm either paying
Will Frees 15 to 12 to 15 million dollars a year to be my starting right guard for
the next three seasons. Or I'm bringing back Dylan Radens. I'm not paying.
Tevin Jenkins, Mackay, Bechtin, Aaron Banks, Patrick McCarrie. I'm just not paying for that level of play.
I'd rather keep it low and cheap and go
with Dylan Radens if I'm not solving the right guard position for years to come.
Will Freeze solves the right guard position for years to come.
But.
There's no other option that does.
So either you fix the problem or just go with a veteran value option.
I don't say cheap anymore because you guys always say you want to go cheap. You want to go cheap. I just mean a value.
Okay, not every player on your team can be a high level contract guy. You have to find value somewhere.
And guard is a great place to find that value. So either get freeze or bring back Raidence.
Period.
Now, I don't think the Titans should go out and sign a tight end.
You have Chigga Conquell.
You have Josh Wiley.
You rostered David Martin Robinson and Thomas O'Doukoye all year last year and barely used them.
It's time for those guys to step up and be ready to play.
And it's a great tight end class in the draft.
So same thing running back.
It's a great, a historically great running back draft class.
If you want to running back and get one in the draft on day three,
Ollie Gordon, Oklahoma state continues to be a great fit for me.
Um, so yeah, the reality here is the Titans aren't fixing the
offensive line and free agency, maybe at guard, but there are no offensive
tackles that are fixing the line and free agency. There aren't.
So you're looking at a value guy like Morgan Moses or Jedrick
Wills that like that's what you guys need to have your expectations on.
And then maybe on the interior at guard, they do something.
Wide receiver, I would like to see a speed guy who could be a kick returner potentially.
Elijah Moore, Rondale Moore, D'Ami. Ola made a Zacchaeus is my favorite one. Greg Dorch is a guy. I think
it could make a ton of sense for the Titans bring back Nick
Westbrook. A three years 18 to 20 million dollars. I think
that would be perfect. and then let's go from there. Let's go
into the NFL draft, but all of the action kicks off Monday
noon Eastern again, I'm going to be going live a little bit later than normal here on the youtube channel throughout the week
to try to get as much of the news as possible to you guys, but
It's a crazy time of year folks and by the time that you hear this

Free agency is here.
That is going to do it for me today, folks.
As always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland, and this was Locked on Titans.
