Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - TITANS FIRST PICK: Rueben Bain, Jordyn Tyson & Arvell Reese | Free Agency Targets | Coaching Reset
Episode Date: November 6, 2025The Tennessee Titans season is not going as they had hoped which means another high draft pick is on the way and three players, Rueben Bain, Arvell Reese and Jordyn Tyson, currently lead the pack as o...ptions and would all be a great fit for the Titans in April. However, Reese is a bit of a dark horse and will create a tough conversation. The Titans also need to make moves in free agency, but with it being a bit of a weak crop, the Titans need to be smart and identify calculated options. Finally, with half of the season gone, the Titans are getting closer to a proper coaching search and Mike McCarthy and Robert Saleh are now at the top of the list. I am answering your mailbag questions
We're gonna start with some big picture questions about the NFL Draft particularly at the top
We'll move into my plan for the Tennessee Titans when it comes to free agency and how much money they need to be
spending and who they could possibly spend it on. And we'll do a little update on some of
the best coaching candidates for the Titans based on what we heard this week from Titans
General Manager Mike Borganzi. Before we get into all of it, do want to thank you for
making Locked on Titans. Your first listen each and every day. Remember, Monday through

But with that being said, we start with the NFL draft.
What are the Tennessee Titans going to do at the top of the draft?
And I got a great question from Mark Workman.
And Mark basically asked, should the Titans be going on offense?
Should the Titans be going on defense?
Should they be going best player available?
And look, we'll talk about all the different names at the top of the draft,
the Baines, the Reese's, the Tysons, all the guys that do.
make sense, but at the end of the day, one of the big things that grinds my gears, as people
like to say, one of the more frustrating things for me is to see people say, the Titans
need to take this position, this position, this position. First round we take this, second round
we take this, third round we take this. You cannot draft like that. You cannot say,
we're taking an edge rusher. Number one, we're taking a wide receiver, number two,
we're taking a running back number three, whatever. Because you don't know what the value is
going to be there. You're not going to pay rib-eye price for sirloin just because you want a steak.
You know what I mean? Like if you go into the grocery store saying, I want a nice rib-eye,
that's what I want, that's what I like. And you get to the counter and all they got sirloin,
you don't say, oh, well, you know, that's the best they got. I'm going to grab it. You say,
I guess I'll look for something else. I guess I'll go get chicken. I guess I'll go with ground beef.
I guess I'll go with pork sausage. You know what I mean?
It's a loose metaphor there,
but the point is you cannot overdraft
because you are locked into a specific position.
So I don't have a great answer for
should the Titans go offense, should the Titans go defense?
I agree with the best player available at a position of need.
When you're at the top of the draft,
there are going to be players there
at all the positions of need that you actually have.
Like, just because the Titans have a need at, you know,
tight end doesn't mean they should.
take one number one in the NFL draft.
Like, there is so much that goes
into it. It's such a nuanced
discussion that I can't stand when people
say, first round we take this, second round we take
this. Yeah, in a perfect world, if the value
was there, all of your biggest
needs line up perfectly like that, but
that's just not how it works. And if you get
into the second round and you have the first pick
in the second round, you're not going to
say, hey, I'm going to take
Edge 11
because we need an edge even though
wide receiver 2 is on the board. Do you see what
I mean, like I would take running back one like Jeremiah Love at the top of the second round
before I would take the 14th best edge rusher just because the Titans need edge.
Do you see what I'm saying?
So that's how I kind of view that question, Mark.
But getting deeper into it, of course, the question becomes,
what position would I like to see the Titans address at the top of the draft?
what are the big positions, and D.R. Tagna says,
what position would you address first in the draft,
and would that depend on whether we trade out of the top three or five?
It absolutely depends on if the Tennessee Titans trade out,
how far back they go, because I'll be honest with you.
I don't think this is a very good draft class at the top of it.
I don't think this is an elite draft class by any stretch of the imagination.
So the Titans got to be careful with how far they go back.
But right now, like I was saying, the top needs for the table,
Tennessee Titans are Edge and Wide Receiver.
There's no question about it. Edge and wide receiver and then I would say
cornerback and when Legerius Sneed is eventually cut in the off season
cornerback is going to be a no doubter so I would say edge
wide receiver and cornerback are the top needs but I don't really know
I don't really know if cornerback is a is a great position
this year especially when you're looking at the top of the draft so for me
it's basically between Edge and
wide receiver at this point.
That's kind of the only options
that I think the Tennessee Titans
realistically have
when it comes to
which guy they're actually going to take
and that leads me to my next question
and it comes from
Sebastian greets
I think that's how to say your last name
Sebastian my apologies
if I got that wrong
but he says if we get on the clock
during the draft and these three
players are on the board who do you
Ruben Bain Jr., the edge rusher out of Miami,
Rvel Reese, the do-it-all front seven player out of Ohio State,
or Jordan Tyson, the skilled wide receiver out of Arizona State.
Quite honestly, right now, I think I'd probably go Ruben Bain.
The Titans need a dominant alpha edge rusher,
and Bain is technically skilled, he's physical, he's aggressive,
he sets the run, or sets the edge against the run.
Ruben Bain makes a ton of sense
and I've kind of been locked on him
throughout the beginning of the college football season
he's just been so good
but
there are some concerns with Ruben Bain
about his athleticism about his
arm length about his height
and size you know those are
big questions there
Jordan Tyson the wide receiver out of Arizona
State 6 foot 2
great speed really improved as a
contested catch guy this year he looks like a
do-it-all weapon the Tennessee Titans
could absolutely go there. I think that would make a ton of sense.
And Arvel Reese.
Arvel Reese is interesting and got to give a shout out to my guy Mark King.
And Mark King asked, who is your dark horse pick for the Tennessee Titans at the top of the draft?
And my dark horse pick is Arvel Reese.
So Ruben Bain versus Arvel Reese is going to be the conversation.
So if you guys aren't aware yet, you better buck up because that's going to be this or that of this draft for the
Tennessee Titans. Ruben Bain is technically sound. He has pass rush moves. He has production
at the highest level of college football. But again, he has some athletic traits concerns.
Arvel Reese, on the other hand, is 6'4 long arms, 33 inch, going to have tremendous speed.
Basically what you're talking about is Arvel Reese plays offball linebacker and he rushes the
pastor. He's the most productive.
productive pass rusher in college football right now.
He's a freaking demon all over the field at all times
and a lot of people compare him to a guy like Micah Parsons.
Whereas Ruben Bain, a lot of people compare him to a guy like Jared Verse.
So it's a question of do you want the technically sound guy with limited traits
or do you want the super tratesy guy with freakish athleticism
also production at the highest level of college football
who maybe is more of a tweener?
Arvel Reese from Ohio State
may very well be the best player in this draft class
he may very well be the Tennessee Titans pick
but most people are focused on Bain and Tyson
because those are the most high profile names
Arvel Reese not as well known coming into the season
but I think Reese is a legitimate option here
for the Tennessee Titans and one that
I think they should be very very interested
he won't be a dark horse by the time that we get to the all season
that's what I can tell you for sure
So that's how I would answer that question about the NFL draft.
Let me know who you guys think your favorite prospect for the Titans at the top of the draft is right now.
Ruben Bain again would be my pick, but I think R. Val Rees, he's closing,
and that might be the pick by the time it comes around.

Titans fans. Let's continue today's
mailbag edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
We talked all about the NFL draft
and the Titans choices at the top of the draft.
Now I want to move into free agency
because we got some great free agency questions
and I go back to my guy Sebastian Gertz
who asks, how much money
do you think the Titans spend in free agency?
Me, I'm thinking 50 to 60 million range.
So the Titans are looking at 80 to $90 million in cap space
as things stand right now.
And I don't think that they're going to spend
all of that, but the reality is they're probably going to have even more cap space
after they cut more people. So, you know, I think that
they're going to have a great opportunity to, oh, and I do want to say
Jacob Dominguez, I'm sorry, I forgot your question, asking about the top
offensive and defensive prospect in the draft. And I mentioned him, Ruben Bain and
Jordan Tyson, wide receiver, so that's the answer. But I wanted to make sure that I acknowledge
that your question was in there. But that's a great question. How much do they spend
and to pair that up, Ben Lambert says,
how aggressive do you want to see Borgonzi be in free agency
who are some guys that they could target.
Hunter Jenkins asked top five free agent targets.
Any chance we go and get Tyreek Woolen.
So a lot of free agency questions there.
And here's the reality.
I don't think that the Titans are going to be super, super aggressive
in free agency.
I just don't see it.
And Mike Borgonzi talked about it in the press conference.
He said, free agency is meant to supplement our roster.
We don't want to go out there and be irresponsible.
But I mean, you know, the team has holes and we need to add some guys in certain spots.
The Titans, what the Titans did in free agency this year,
I think is very indicative of how they're going to operate.
They made one big move with Dan Moore,
who they thought would be a key addition and a key piece at a key spot.
okay
they added
you know a mid-range guy
with Cody Barton
they add a mid-range guy
with Draymont Jones
they go for a mid-range option
on the offensive line
you know they add little veterans
here and there
like a Van Jefferson
Tyler Lockett for example
Quandre Diggs
for example
Xavier Woods for example
so I think that the Titans
aren't going to be out there
spending a million
dollar, a million is not a good example, spending half a billion dollars on guaranteed deals and
getting guys in and be it super aggressive. I don't think that's what the Titans want to do.
I think they'll have one decent money free agent signing.
I don't even think that that might be as expensive as Dan Moore was this year.
I don't think that they'll have a deal that big this year.
I just don't see that from the Titans.
I think that they're going to go with some value options and they're also going to have one
spot where they really address
the problem is in my opinion
that's a bigger issue
is I don't think there
are a lot of good free agents
I think this free agency class is terrible
if I'm honest with you. I don't see
a lot of good options for the Titans
look at some of their positions of need
wide receiver
I mean
if you want to go get Alec Pierce
like a Dante
Dontavian Wicks, a Romeo Dobbs, a Wondell Robinson.
I think those are all good guys at wide receiver.
Dontavian Wix is a restricted free agent.
But if the Packers decide to keep Romeo Dobbs,
they have Jaden Reed, they have Christian Watson,
who they gave an extension,
they just drafted Matthew Golden.
You know, that's four wide receivers right there.
So I think that one of Dontavian Wicks and Romeo Dobbs
will be available. I think they would make sense.
But again, do you really think about what
you're saying here? Do you want to go out
and pay $18 million
a year?
$15 million a year for
Romeo Dobbs?
You think that solves the problems?
You know, I just don't
I don't know.
I would rather, if
the Titans are that desperate for wide receiver,
I would rather take
Jordan Tyson
Mackay Lemon out of
USC. Cornel Tate out of Ohio
State. I would
rather just get one of those guys and go with
Eich E.O. Manor, Chim D.K.
And you're drafted
first round rookie wide receiver.
And then get another, you know, Van
Jefferson type veteran signing
of that kind. You know, that, I would
rather go that route than to pay
that much money to Romeo Dobbs,
you know,
or Wondell Robinson.
So I don't really see that.
then you go to edge rusher and
AJ Epinessa from Buffalo
I think that would be an interesting fit
I think I could see that
Sam Williams from Dallas
Adafay O.A who just got traded to the Chargers
I'm guessing that the Chargers will extend him
and bring him back after trading for him from Buffalo
but OA is a guy who I think would have a tremendous impact
on Femiola Dazio they're not similar
I would say but
Adafay O'A
needed a ton of development when he was coming out of college.
I think he would to Penn State, right?
A ton of, he was a super tracy guy, had good explosiveness, speed, size, length, all that,
but really needed technical refinement.
So maybe he would be a good impact on Femiola Dejo.
I think that would make sense.
And then if you have Adafé OA, Femiola Dejo in year two,
and then you draft another edge rusher in the first three rounds of the draft,
that could be a pretty decent trio.
You know, it would be young, two young players,
but that's kind of what you want from the Titans.
You know, I think those names make sense,
but the pickings aren't, the pickings aren't great.
And here's one other thing to consider.
We don't know who the next Tennessee Titans coach is going to beat.
So it's hard telling what system exactly.
The Titans are going to be looking to fit here with new players.
So that'll be interesting there.
But those are the names that I think that I would be most interested in.
John Martin also asked, do you think a better veteran backup?
Oh, let me say this before I move on.
My one big splash signing that I think the Tennessee Titans could actually make
is on the offensive line.
Wyatt Teller from the Cleveland Browns.
He's in his 30s.
He's 30, going to be 31-year-old.
old, so a little bit older of a player.
But I think he would make a ton of sense as an interior
offensive lineman to fill that right guard
spot. And I think if you gave Wyatt
Teller a two-year contract,
you could have your offensive line with Dan Moore,
Peter Skoronsky, let
Cushenberry come back a year after the
thing, and we'll reevaluate Cushingberry
after that season. Wyatt
Teller at right guard, J.C. Latham
at right tackle. I think you have a
solid offensive line group
for the next two years together. And then you
can, of course, evaluate
Lloyd Cushenberry, and you would hope that a guy like Jackson Slater might be able to take over for Lloyd Cushenberry and have an internal answer for Center after 2026.
That would be kind of my plan as we see Cushenberry in 2026 with Jackson Slater competing with him and then, you know, go from there.
If it's time to move on from Cushingberry during the season, you slide Slater in there, you cut Cush after the year, you're good to go.
you have your plan.
If Cush and Barry is good, then you have your group.
You know what I mean?
So I think Wyatt Teller on the offensive line at guard
could be a really good option for the Tennessee Titans.
They're one big money signing.
They spend about, you know,
$10 to $13 there.
That could be it.
So I don't think the Titans are going to be overly splashy.
But John Martin says,
do you think a better veteran backup could help Cam's growth at QB?
I don't know about helping his growth,
but I think after this year,
the Titans are going to need a new backup because
Brandon Allen was just a Brian Callahan merchant
and the Titans are going to be more focused on winning games next year.
So if you're trying to win more games
and you don't need a Brian Callahan Lackey at backup quarterback
then I would go, I wanted James Winston this year
and you would think that he would not put himself in the position
he put himself in this year
where he's going to be a third string quarterback for most of the year.
I think Winston would be a great option
behind Cam Ward. I think that would be good for the locker room.
I think that would be good for Cam Ward's spirits and keeping him up if they're losing and things like that.
So yeah, I think a better backup quarterback is a must next year.
The final question in this realm is, well, a couple more here.
Stephen Richardson said, what will the team do with Levis?
They bring him back.
I think you trade Will Levis before the draft.
I think if he's healthy and you know that he's healthy and he's cleared and not.
I think you flip him for a fifth or sixth round pick to another team.
His time here is over, if I'm honest.
USFA, I think it's United States Air Force Smitty,
says, why was Roger McCreery not a long-term fit?
I just think that McCreery doesn't have versatility.
He's a slot-only guy.
He's a small guy.
He's got short arms.
He's not good in ball situations.
And there are a lot of people philosophically out there
who think that being able to produce
and catch point situations and having ball production
is the most important thing you can have for your secondary.
So clearly I think that Mike Borgonzi feels that way
and feels like paying a slot cornerback right now
high end of the market deal doesn't make a ton of sense.
So that would be my answer to that for you.
The final question that I have here in this segment
talking about free agency and the roster and all of that is
Franco said, do you think,
it's better or worse for Cam to be in a small market and not have a massive spotlight on
him. I think it's better for him when times are bad and I think it's worse for him when times
are good. Because when times are good, Cam Ward's playing well, doing stuff like that.
He would make a lot more money if he was doing it in a bigger market. But in a smaller market,
when things are bad, you don't take as much heat. And not as many people are talking about how
bad you're playing or how bad your team is. So it's a double-edged sword. And we'll see how
it works out for Cam Ward. But with that being said, what about the coaches?
Mike Borgonzi had an interesting quote about the coaching search.
Let's talk about who my updated head coach candidate list is.
Do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought to you by prize picks.
You and I make decisions every day.
But on prize picks, being right can actually get you paid.
Don't miss any of the excitement this sports season,
whether you're following the NFL, the NBA or both.
There's no better time to jump in on the action.
And if you haven't tried it yet, prize picks is the simplest way to play.
You just pick more or less on at least two player stats.
And if you get them right, you win.
It takes less than 60 seconds to make your lineup.
And you can play anywhere prize picks operates, including California, Texas, and Georgia.
I've been using prize picks during both football Sundays and NBA tip-offs.
It keeps every game more exciting.
Their new stacks feature is a game changer.
You can actually pick more on Steph Curry's points, threes, and a game.
assists all in the same lineup. Plus, if one of your players leaves early with an injury,
the injury reboot saves your lineup from a loss. Download the Price Picks app today.
Use the code locked on NFL to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5
lineup. That's code Locked on NFL for $50 in lineups after your first $5 lineup.
Price Picks, it's good to be right.
Titans fans.
Let's cap off today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
Mailbag episode answering your guys' questions.
We talked draft.
We talked free agency.
Now it's time to talk about the other third most important thing
or biggest thing for the Titans moving forward.
And it's the coaching search.
And remember, Mike Borgonzi said at his press conference on Wednesday,
The Titans want a leader.
He doesn't care if it's offense or defense.
He knows like I know the Tennessee Titans need a culture setter.
They need a leader in the building right now more than ever.
And I thought there was a good question here on developing players.
My guy Nick Bradley says, my question is do you feel confident in this staff to develop these players,
especially the ones on offense right now?
Because I think during his press conference, he said he believes,
talking about Mike Borganzi, that
people can develop, these people
can develop players, so what's your take?
Wipe them clean or keep them.
Nick, I got to tell you, I think that is
that is Mike Borganzi being nice.
He's saying they can work with these individual players,
they can support these individual players,
and I think it's fair
to say
that the Titans' current coaching staff
while being terrible on game day,
they're not good at play calling,
They're not good at game management situations.
They're not good at, you know, strategy and things like that.
This coaching staff is not good, especially on offense.
Dernard Wilson, Bones Fossil, give them their credit.
They're kind of absolved of the nonsense of the other coaches at this point for me.
But especially the offensive coaches, I think that they're capable of developing players,
teaching the correct route running technique, teaching footwork and mechanics to Cam Ward,
you know, teaching blocking technique and how to do things.
Like, I think they're capable of individual player development.
I just think they're terrible on game day.
They're not good play callers, play designers.
Like I said, strategy, game management, decision making.
I think that's where this coaching staff is terrible.
And I think leadership, leading the locker room, creating a culture,
all of that different stuff, that's where this coaching staff has fallen short.
is in-game management
and then locker room leadership.
The individual technique of developing players
I don't think is terrible.
Like, I don't think so in that sense
Mike Borgonzi could be given truth serum
and say, well, I do think these guys are capable
of developing this players.
I just don't think they're capable of winning with these players.
So with that in mind, Nick,
don't trick yourself, man.
They are cleaning house after the year.
You're going to have a brand new coaching staff next year.
Maybe Bones Fossil is back and that leads to the final question.
Christian says the most important question is who will be our head coach?
We have a nine game sample size who are or aren't your favorite so far have they changed.
I wouldn't really say they've changed much if I'm honest with you.
I think you want leadership first and foremost.
And I think there are plenty of guys who check that box.
and then for me, I want some schematic advantage.
I want you to know your scheme stuff.
So when you look at those two qualifications, experience Mike McCarthy.
I will continue to talk about Mike McCarthy.
I think he's a great option for the Tennessee Titans.
He's going to establish a culture.
He's been a part of culture.
He got the Green Bay Packers to a Super Bowl championship.
He got the Dallas Cowboys, the three straight 12-win seasons.
He's had multiple top five offenses in his career,
so he gives you experience, leadership,
and has built multiple programs
while also giving you some schematic and quarterback advantages,
which I think helped Cam work.
So I love that as an option.
Robert Sala,
the defensive coordinator from the San Francisco 49ers,
culture setter to the max.
He is a galvanizing guy who will motivate his players,
get max buy-in from his players.
Love Robert Sala as an option.
get the schematic stuff of the defense.
The Jets used to have an awesome defense.
Once they fired Robert Sala
last year, five games in, their defense
has never been the same.
San Francisco barely has any of their stars
on defense. Their defense is still pretty good.
People want to play for Robert Sala.
Now, the problem with that is
he's a defensive guy.
So, will he hire a good enough
offensive coordinator? And when
that offensive coordinator does do well,
will he just be hired a way?
as a head coach somewhere else?
See, I would like, as I've talked about,
Robert Sala,
and if the Dolphins fire Mike McDaniel,
McDaniel has a San Francisco connection,
Robert Sala and Mike McDaniel together as a pairing
with Sala as the head coach and defensive play caller
and Mike McDaniel as the offensive coordinator.
That is, that pairing to me
is my number two preferred pairing.
outside, a preferred option outside of Mike McCarthy number one.
I think if you, Cliff Kingsbury is still a great option
because the scheme rating is at 100
and what he did for Jane Daniels and has done for Jane Daniels,
I think he could get the best out of Cam Ward.
But there have been questions about whether Cliff Kingsbury is a leader of men.
Can he establish a culture?
Is he a little too player friendly
to really get the best out of guys?
I think that's a fair question.
Matt Nagy has experience, but he's a guy who, I don't think he could set the culture,
even though he has some scheme and offensive stuff and has the Kansas City connection to Mike Borganzi.
Arthur Smith has been mentioned.
Again, I just don't like the culture that he sets.
What he does in Pittsburgh with his personnel deployment,
his biggest plays of the game, not having your best players out there,
all this foo-fou fancy stuff,
what we saw from Mike McCoy in this last game against the Chargers
with the Wildcat and the schemed-up screens.
And Arthur Smith is a guy who thinks he is smarter than everybody else.
And he is going to outsmart everybody, even though he is not capable of that.
I have no interest in Arthur Smith at all.
Even though I think he could set a culture, it's just schematically on offense.
He's a disaster.
Don't trust him.
Brian Flores is kind of a knock-off version of Robert Sala.
In my opinion, he could set a culture.
He has defensive scheme capabilities.
You want to go with guys without that leadership and experience.
Maybe they prove that they have that in the interviews,
but you can't prove that right now.
Joe Brady, the offensive coordinator from the Bills.
Jesse Mentor, the defensive coordinator from the Chargers.
Josh Glissard, the offensive coordinator from the Buccaneers.
Clint Kubiak, the offensive coordinator from the Seattle Seahawks.
I think it's going to be a hot candidate and a hot name as well.
Maybe you get young Kubiak who has seen his father do it,
but that feels a little bit like Brian Callahan, in my opinion.
So, again, I think there's two different buckets, guys with experience,
guys without head coaching experience.
I think it's more likely the Titans go with a guy with head coaching experience.
And I think guys who have proven that they can set a culture like Mike McCarthy,
Robert Sala, and Brian Flores make a ton of sense for the Titans as well.
But with that being said, that's going to do it for me today.
Folks, as always, I am your host, Tyler Rowland.
And this was Locked on Titans.
Thank you.
