Now, believe it or not, I do have a positive when it comes to the Titans this week.
We'll get into it.
The patience is running thin when it comes to Cam Ward.
What do we need to see from him in week two to feel a little better?
Physicality is fundamental.
It's not being tough.
I'll explain during the hop tick.
I'm mad.
Let's talk Titans on the Titan Squad Show.
Titan up.
It's the Titans Squad.
everything Tennessee Titans every week.
Covering all the big hits and game-changing plays from the heart of Music City,
the way only the Locked-on podcast network can.
Squad up.
The Titan Squad Show starts now.
And welcome to the Titans Squad Show, Julian Minnesone, Kayla Anderson, Tyler Rowland, Brad Hopkins here with you,
and we're going to be talking Titans.
Today's episode is brought to you by Game Time.

We're going to have a Bops hop take.
We're going to talk about the Eagles coming into town.
When will the Titans get their first win?
Can Cam Ward be fixed?
Titans are coming off of a loss of 23 to 10 loss to the New York Jets
that's got all of Nashville and Titans fans everywhere
feeling like the sky is falling.
And so I wanted to start with our favorite segment,
the first time that we've had a regular season game to do this, guys.
Tighten up and tighten down.
Kayla, I'm going to start with you.
And I want to start with Titan Down.
What is your Titan Down out of the laundry list of Titan Downs this week?
Yeah, I mean, I forgot at some point that he was on the team.
And, you know, I don't even know if it's a Titan Down because I don't know if he's ever been up in terms of the preseason or training camp.
But Calvin Ridley, man, I don't even know where this guy exists on this team.
And I'm not trying to be rude here.
But I am seen as a veteran wide receiver who obviously, you know, restructors.
his contract to stay here.
He's coming off of that leg injury of last year.
I understand that, but he is supposed to be a part of that receiver room.
They kept him for a reason.
Like there were other guys that got cut.
When you come into this game and you have zero across the board, he wasn't even targeted.
And I do understand there was possibly, you know, a play where Cam could have found him
a little bit down the right side and maybe that was on Cam.
But when he comes in, it has no productions, what.
and we barely talked about him in training camp.
This seems to be a trend with Calvin Ridley of like,
who is this guy and what is he going to do for your team?
Gotcha. Tyler.
Should I do the tighten down?
I feel like we're going to talk about Cam Ward quite a bit.
But let me do this.
Let me do this.
Cam Ward,
we'll talk about it.
And I can spend a lot of time there.
I'll give my thoughts.
I'm going to tighten down the run defense.
And as a bonus,
fans who thought the run defense would be good.
Because if you look at Robert Sala's career,
if you listen to Robert Sala in previous press conferences
when he was at different places,
he is very clear about his ideology on defense.
We are not going to give up explosive plays,
even if it means giving up shorter plays,
and we want to prevent points.
We do not care about yards.
He has said that publicly, and his defensive numbers bear it out.
He's been a defensive play caller for nine years in the NFL,
And seven of those years, his run defense was 16th or lower in the league.
And multiple years, they were in the 20s.
He's had one good year of run defense, and it was 2020 with San Francisco where they were seven.
This team was never going to be good at run defense because Robert Sala does not care about run defense.
He wants to stop explosive pass plays, and he wants to prevent points.
He has literally said this publicly.
So it's like, the run defense is bad.
It's probably going to remain a problem.
It has been a bugaboo for every fan base that has had Robert Sala.
But I will say this, to end that out,
I do believe that the secondary and the past coverage
will be significantly better by the end of the year
to make the defense not an absolute disgrace like it may look like.
But I'm just telling you,
the run defense ain't going to get a lot better
because Robert Sala's the four-man fronts, the wide fronts,
it literally just opened you up to be susceptible to the run.
So I don't think it's going to get better.
Yeah, Titans gave up 152 on the ground, two running touchdowns as well.
Baha.
Yeah, and I think Jeff called that the leaky yards.
The leaky yards are basically what made the pipes burst.
You know, when they couldn't get off the field, the 19-play drive for 12 minutes,
the eight-played drive to start the game.
You know, they weren't doing anything.
They weren't in reinventing the wheel.
They were just methodically staying on the football field and converting first downs,
which is basically the formula.
That's not my type.
down, but just to kind of embellish a little bit on Tyler on what you're talking about in the sense of your frustration.
This is a team that wants to be in the front to be able to pin their ears back and get after the quarterback.
That situation never presented itself this weekend.
And we'll talk more about that too, especially when it comes to camp.
But for me, it was the lack of complimentary football.
Complementary football is guys getting off the field on third down, not giving up huge points.
to make a differential and dictate the pace of the offense.
And for an offense that gets on the field,
stay on the field, and put points on the board after drives.
At the end of the day, complimentary, and you know what,
special teams had its fight of the shit pie, too.
Because when you start the game out, kicking the ball out of bounds
and giving the ball to the jets at the 40-yard line
and then them staying on the field for eight plays
and so they don't get on the end zone,
that's not the way you want to start a ball game.
But at the end of the day,
offense, defense, the first of course,
did not think top of the football and getting them to plan to win with the best.
No, yeah, that's true.
And I guess mine, it kind of goes off of that.
They just weren't competitive.
You know what I mean?
You know how when we were talking about like the heat out there on game day,
there's like the temperature and then there's like the feels-like temperature.
The score was 23 to 10, but then there was a feels-like score that made it feel like a lot wired to zero.
Right?
And, you know, it's one thing to lose a close game and then maybe you can point to a thing or two here and there and say,
okay, you know what, I can cope with a close loss.
It was a little bit more competitive,
and there's one or two things you can look at
that they need to get better from week to week.
But the laundry list is so long
that I understand why fans feel hopeless.
You know, I am not a Titans fan like Tyler.
I didn't play for the organization like Brad.
But I know you want every season to feel like a separate entity,
but it's very hard when the trend continues
and the results are kind of carrying from year to year.
year. That's the most depressing thing, Julian. That's the worst part. That's what
gets me so bad is it just feels like, and as someone who makes content for this team,
nobody wants to hear about Anthony Hill playing well or how J.C. Latham had a good game
and shut down because it was all so bad that you post anything positive about the team,
and it's just a wave of comments of negativity. It's just like it feels like it's November
again. Like we're right back into last November is how that loss made you feel.
But speaking from an outsider's perspective now and looking at it in a different way to you guys,
like you've got to understand.
And I've said this before.
But like when your owner and your organization decides to change things up every single year for the last five years.
And it's it's something every single time.
There is no continuity with this organization.
And then when there is a new foundation, supposed to be.
set in place, people want to screw it up again. But it's been one game. And it's like,
if there's no patience in this organization either, you're going to keep on doing the same stuff.
Like, I just, it's a hard thing to be like a fan. I get it. But like, there's got to be some
patience in some aspect of this whole process. That's very true. But I would just say,
patience with the wrong person is wrong. I think it's, I think it's hard to be patient when you
suffer your sixth straight opening season loss.
Yeah, I don't know. It's hard for the fan base to have this kind of attitude.
Like, hey, you know what?
But the thing is, I mean, put this way.
You know who the Titans joined this weekend?
They joined the Rams.
They joined the Broncos.
They joined the Chargers.
They joined every team that had the thought that this is going to be their year.
And they started out the season with an egg.
The Rams went down to Australia and got there,
kicked. We saw the Broncos. Was that the same Broncos team that was supposed to win the West this
year? You should feel one of Polnix is a quarterback after that. But the point being, there was a lot of hope
for a lot of fan bases. And guess what? 16 of them lost this weekend, 16 of them won. So it is
week one, and it is frustrating to start the season out with what is supposed to be a winnable game.
But let me throw this out there. Let's look at the Jets for a second. Is this the same Jets team
that we saw last year?
I don't think so.
I think that they are vastly improved,
which is exactly what draft equity
and some of the trade decisions that they would make,
that they made, and a team that stuck to their game plan
was able to accomplish.
So did the Titans look like ass this weekend?
Yes, and they'll be the first one to tell you that.
100%.
But we've also got to give the JETS Jets credit
for the way that they played.
And unfortunately, I heard JETS Jets, Jets,
just way too often in Nissan State.
Yeah.
Listen, I have something to say.
I'm sorry.
I know I'm mad.
But I just want to say,
Brad, you're not wrong,
but I'm tired of that.
I'm tired of being like,
oh, well, it's not as bad of a loss as it looks.
The Jets are better this year.
Why can't the Titans be better this year?
Why can't the Titans?
And they took trash from the Titans.
We traded away Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
And Tavondre sweat because they're bad for the culture.
Well, which team looked like the team that had the worst culture?
It was the Titans, not the Jets.
So I'm just like, yeah, you're right.
The Jets are better.
the Jets would be more competitive this year.
But I'm tired of being like, oh, well, the Jets are better than we thought.
It's not quite, why can't the Titans be that team that was better?
When is it our term?
Like, why do I have to keep waiting and being patient?
And, Kayla, you're right.
We got to be patient and allow a foundation to build.
But, like, if you build a foundation with a person who sucks at their job,
being patient with someone who sucks doesn't help you win any longer either.
So it's like, I don't know.
I'm just so mad and so frustrated at this team.
I'm not thinking logically.
Unfortunately, when we get upset and we want what Kayla is saying that tights need to stay away from, change, right?
Because like you just said, if guys aren't able to do their job, what are you looking at?
Are you looking for them to wait for them to develop and improve?
No, no.
You want them fired.
You want them replaced.
You want something different.
And that plays into what Kayla's talking about, which is the lack of continuity and consistency.
At some point in the time, you've just got to be able to just ride out with what you got.
It will change just like the stock market does.
Inevitably, if you give guys a chance to get better,
look, Malik Willis wasn't good enough to be a starter here, right?
Well, guess what he's doing now in South Beach?
It didn't help him win this past weekend, but he's a starter.
He played better for the Packers to give him that opportunity.
Because at the end of the day, sometimes it takes time for players to get comfortable
in getting those roles where they can then be relied on to be the stars of tomorrow,
the foundation pieces.
Okay, so that's, I understand your frustration,
and it is completely valid, 100%.
And at the end of the day, week one is just an example of what happened.
Week four in this stuff keeps happening, those are just excuses.
But right now it's the first week of the season.
You see what I'm saying?
So what I'm doing as a player analyst, and I can't take the player part out of it,
that's the way I was built, is I have to look for solutions.
I have to look at the problem itself and figure out how, if at all possible,
can we get better?
instead of sitting here bitching about the fact that we suck.
That's an obvious statement to make because the tape, it's in the tape.
And they'll go out there and they'll tell you the exact same thing.
Just like Robert said at the end of the game,
we've got to look in the mirror and take a hard look at what happened
and figure out where we can actually get fixed in a day.
You've got to fix more of these things.
I think we might have lost Brad on that.
I think we might have.
Yeah.
International man of mystery.
Brad's always somewhere.
It can't really blame it.
That's why he's a legend.
But to that.
point, I think the surprising thing with me, and I was talking about this with Kayla off air,
was the strengths didn't look like strengths. But we thought we're going to be the strengths of
this team. You know, the defensive line, they addressed a lot of that in the offseason.
You pay Jeffrey Simmons, you pay John Franklin Myers. You brought in Jermaine Johnson. And Gino doesn't
get touched, you know, at all. Special teams starting off with a kick that put the jets at the
40. The punting wasn't great.
I think that's at the toll.
It's just crap, special teams.
Right.
I mean, think about that.
The first play of the season,
they can't even execute a kickoff.
Exactly.
It's just, it's every little possible way that they can make you mad.
They find a way to do it from every single level.
And Brad, you're right.
I think Borganzi and Sala deserve more patience.
I am not calling for heads or anything.
And Brad is 100% right.
The player in the team perspective,
they can't just sit around and cry like I do.
on the podcast. They got to focus on how
we get better and not just accept what it is.
But I can sit around and cry on the
podcast and I'm pissed, all right?
Do we have a tighten up at all?
Yes. Yes. Yes.
It was 10 to 7.
It was 10 to 7.5.
Woo!
Come on, man.
Hey, come on.
J.C. Lake did a really good job.
Yeah, that was my tighten up too.
If I was going with players, next time I'll go with more themes.
but yeah, I was on your page with Jacey Lathen, too.
Yeah, the offensive line overall, I mean, we could talk about it more.
It's the biggest gap in my mind is between film watchers and casual fans is the O-line.
Like, there will be no bigger discrepancy and opinion on players in the team,
which is not a surprise.
O-line play is very hard to pay attention to.
The average person doesn't look at the O-line at all.
They're looking at the ball.
They just see guys around Cam.
It had to be the O-line.
fall. You can't see the route concepts to know what happened.
So offensive linemen, as Brad knows, take more crap,
undeservedly than any other position in football.
But the Titans offensive line was nowhere near as bad as like what the fans are
saying this. O-line's trash and blah. Dan Moore had an ugly couple of plays.
The spin move inside. The pool was bad. He's not a good pooler anyway.
I broke that down on a Steelers film a year and a half ago.
Like it's just not what he's good at. Latham played
solid, really good football.
Could have been better in run blocking.
You know what I mean?
Carmona had one really bad loss
to Tavondre sweat, but was overall pretty solid.
P is solid as always.
The O-line was mid in this game.
They weren't terrible.
They weren't great.
They were mid, and they were better
than what the fan sentiment says about the O-line.
So that's a whole tighten up there.
Kaila?
Yeah, mine was J.C. Latham in particular.
I think at first sight,
I didn't like exactly the line and what they did,
but then going and looking at some of the breakdowns.
I do feel like there were moments where Cam could have made decisions.
It's just seeing things or not seeing things for Cam, right?
Or I think being comfortable or not being comfortable.
And a lot of times he was not comfortable.
And he just go, he scrambles, right?
He just, he goes on the move instantly instead of really like looking and seeing what he has available.
or just stepping up and like kind of being okay to maybe even take the hit.
And so I think like the line when I looked at it overall, it wasn't as bad as I thought,
like Tyler said.
But JC in particular, I think JC is going to continue to improve this season two.
Like this isn't by any means his best performance and I don't want it to be.
But I think for the most part, I think PFF gave him like maybe two pressures.
And I know PFF is not the end all, be all.
But he had like two pressures.
I don't believe he gave up any sacks.
his end and yeah I think it's what we wanted to see from JC at least in terms of a step
one now they've got to he's got to build on that and the line's got to build on it
sure Diham you know there's a I'll always find a positive because that's just the way I'm
wired but it's really not about focusing on a positive for me it's about just getting better
you know what I mean?
So is there another opportunity for them to look at the tape,
discover some of the things that they did inconsistent?
Like blocking attack, that's just the basis of football, right?
This one-arm shot shit and not wrapping guys up and that kind of stuff,
that's why Breece Hall had the briefs-haul.
You know what I mean?
And so you can figure out, are we going to practice?
like it matters that way you know what i mean i understand it's a fine line
it's like we might have to have to be cognizant of being smart yeah can you hear me i got
you you guys hear me okay yeah we're my wife is robin coming back from florida and uh
we're in some kind of corridor where AT and t or actually t mobile's ass so team mobile's so
did on t stands for titans tightens tight he's open can't get away you go see i didn't mean to go there but either
way but the point being yes i i think that there's a lot of potential for growth i know that because i know
that you learn a lot more from a loss than you do from a win and they'll go back and they'll look at this
tape and they'll discover some things about themselves that they want to fix and hopefully that'll get
ready for i mean an even more aggressive front in the philadelphia years yeah my my tighten up is is
somewhat similar to Brad's is that it's a new week, right? Like, last week is over. It's a new chance.
Tight up. The game is over.
It's not. And I was saying, like, I did multiple shows on Sunday, postgame shows outside of this one.
And I was trying to find the words to describe, like, what I saw. And, you know, sports to me,
and it may be similar to each of you guys. I mean, Brad, you were a former player, so there's a
livelihood piece in it too. And I guess for Tyler and Kayla, for us to an extent there is a livelihood
piece in it as well. You too, buddy. Try to wiggle out of this, Julian. So, but sports to me is,
is three things. It's competitiveness. It's culture. It's entertainment. That's what it is to me.
And Sunday, there was no competitiveness. The culture around this team right now, if there is a
winning culture being implemented, it wasn't shown on Sunday. And even just from an entertainment value,
it wasn't a fun game to watch.
Again, if they played close and there was a little bit more of a competitive spirit,
I may have been able to accept that.
And personally, I thought this game was a must win.
I was on that side like, hey, this game against the Jets,
you got to win this one because you look at the schedule and you don't know what it's going to happen.
If you didn't feel that way, I do believe you.
But if Sunday was anything, it was a must not look like that.
And so this is, when I'm looking at this week, I'm just looking at it as, hey, when you have a performance like that, you want to get back on the field sooner.
And I know those guys do.
And so this is a chance and an opportunity for them to do so.
That's my tightness.
Hey, real quick, Julian, real quick, I do have a tighten up.
And the tighten up was off of what Jeffrey Simmons asked the fan base to do and what I witnessed on Sunday when I left the stadium.
Jeff said, stick with us while we go through these growing pains.
Remember that? That's what he said after the game, right?
I'm coming down the escalator out of the press box,
and there's a guy wearing the Eddie George jersey right over my shoulder.
And so I just looked back, and he didn't know who I was.
I just looked back and I said, what did you think?
He said, man, that was hard to watch.
He said, but I'm going to keep rocking with him.
Yeah.
Then I asked another guy when I was on the sidewalk
about to cross the street to go to my car,
and asked the same thing,
because I kind of wanted to get a feel of what the fan base was saying.
And the guy said almost the exact same thing.
It was hard to watch.
But this was week one.
So they haven't given up on us.
They haven't thrown in the towel.
They're not, not supporting this team.
Because at the end of the day, I remember, like, in the 13 seasons I played for this franchise,
I think we started the season out one and four, like, three times.
You know what I'm saying?
So I know what it's like to lose the first one or even win the first one and lose the next
three or four.
You know what I mean?
It's bad.
And you don't want to disappoint the fan base.
I will say that I heard booze early in that ball game.
You know, when Cam was throwing the ball on the fourth time, he had to throw it out of bounds,
trying to escape the pressure.
The fans were tired of it.
They were fed up and they were booing.
You know what I'm saying?
So fan bases actually determine the energy.
They set the tone.
And the tone was flat.
You know what I'm saying?
Because the Titans didn't give them anything to be excited about.
So it's a tandem.
It's a tandem of things.
And so I think at the end of the day, my tighten up is the fact.
that I didn't see this wide scale. Throw your hands up in the air. I'm done with this franchise
type attitude. No, 100%. We are going to continue to break down what happened in the Jets game
and what we want to see moving forward, in particular with Cam Ward. That's on the other side
of the break here in the Titan Squad show. Don't go on anything. The NFL is full of games
you plan for all year, but sometimes the best memories come from the games you almost miss.
Game time makes it easy to find tickets to NFL matchups. You want to see the prices that
include fees so you know your total cost up front. You can browse games, see a panoramic view
from your seat before you buy, and get tickets in just a couple of taps. Plus, zone deals let you
choose the section and let game time choose the seats to help save even more, whether it's a rivalry
game, a matchup featuring a player you must see in person or an underdog ready to make some noise.
Game time makes getting to the game simple. Think about the game on the schedule that you absolutely
don't want to miss. Maybe it's some of those AFC South rivalry games at home for the Titans
this year, whether it be the Texans, the Jags, or the Colts, get your friends together, get your
tickets and tell them it's game time. Download the game time at, create an account and use code

big question this week. Can the Titans upset the Eagles? Right now, the Titans winning is trading at a

All right, guys, we're transitioning to talking about Cam Ward. Of course, QB1 for the Titans,
not his best first day, I guess, first day of his second season. I should say 19 to 32, 140 yards,
the garbage time touchdown to Elyke Eil Manor.
Now that we've had a few days to digest and let that performance
marinate a little bit.
Tyler, I'll start with you.
What did you think?
Well, I mean, I don't really have much other to say other than Cam Ward was the
worst part of the football team.
I mean, we can talk about special teams being bad, the defense being bad,
O-line, wide receivers, coaching, anything you talk about.
But the biggest problem, if you rank them, was Cam Ward.
I mean, he just, he's missing late.
ups, the Wondale Robinson bubble screen, the Tage Spears bubble screen.
He's missing Reed, two crossers to Cornell Tate.
One was a bad throw.
One, he didn't even throw.
Two outs, one to Wondale, one to Tate that are there in the three-man concept on the
front side of the play and he doesn't throw it.
He's not getting rid of the ball and then taking pressure and then falling back in the
pocket, making the O-line look worse.
You know, it's unfortunate.
He's so much better of a player than this.
I refuse to believe this is who Cam is.
I have seen him play better football than this.
To me, it all comes down to he looks scared.
And when we go into the preseason
and we talk about, oh, he's sped up.
He's playing too fast.
He just needs to chill out.
He's rushing through things.
He's rushing through reeds.
He's getting happy feet in the pocket.
There was one play where he,
it looked like the very first play against San Francisco,
where he chopped his feet.
When you're throwing a football,
you should be, you know, with your body sideways.
You know what I mean?
and then you step forward.
You don't throw a football with your chest straight forward like this.
And Cam so often, instead of sliding up in a good throwing motion,
he freaks out and runs forward, which ruins his base.
He's out of position.
That one to Chim Dekay, where he tossed it up in the air to himself for some reason,
he literally just panicked in the pocket and went head first into the defensive line
like a juggernaut from the X-Men or something like.
It just, he's capable of so much more.
But like with Marcus Marriota, before he got replaced.
by Ryan Tannahill, no matter how painful that was for Titans fans.
Marcus just couldn't even hit a bubble screen.
And it's like, we cannot operate an offense if you can't hit these simple,
throws these simple layups and just operate the offense.
Like, we're not even asking him to make those spectacular plays that we saw last year.
Just run it like a backup would.
And he just hasn't been able to do it for multiple performances.
Yeah, it's just the preseason.
But now it's a real game where he just looks shocked, man.
and I just, he has to calm down, take a deep breath, and just play football.
And I just think there's too much going on up top for him right now for him to be as good
of a player as he is, even if he's not elite or whatever.
He's better than this, man.
Bhop, how do you get a quarterback like Cam to trust his pocket?
You know, the thing is, he really wasn't under duress to cause him to hit the
panic button like so many times we thought he was.
Yes, exactly.
Braddy seeing ghosts.
Now, I will say this.
It was the absolute worst situation for Cam Ward to be in, being down in points,
and having to chuck the ball around the yard.
Okay?
And I will take a little bit of, not exception, Tyler, but disagreeing with what you said about
we don't expect him to make those big plays.
Yes, we do.
And the reason why we expected to make those big plays is because,
because he makes so many, he makes so many mistakes.
In other words, the mistakes were palatable when you can,
when you can back that up with an extraordinary play,
which is what we see him do, right?
It would be sometimes, like when he saw on the post route,
Gunnar Helm, right, almost in the end zone,
he throws it his feet, gives it to him, okay?
But what we expect him to do then is to,
when he's scrambling outside of the pocket,
make some sort of off-platform throw for 20 yards down the field
making a big play, because that's what happens with camp,
especially for a young quarterback.
Now, I will say that one thing that didn't happen this weekend for the Titans that I wish could have happened, Frank Wright is one heck of a play caller.
Andy Reed is one heck of a play caller.
You know what these guys did this past weekend?
They ran the ball.
They ran the damn football.
Andy Reed, which he never has done, he ran the ball nine straight times to start the game.
That's the enemy up in there again.
Eric, the enemy's back from the house.
It wasn't Patrick Mahomes that beat the Broncos.
It was Kenneth Walker, the third, that beat the Broncos.
And it was the same thing.
Breece Hall beat us, not Gino Smith.
Gino Smith had like what, 200 yards, 250 yards?
I mean, good day, but it's not a killer.
You know what I'm saying?
At the end of the day, the yards that Breece put up,
the extra yards, even Allen had some breaking tackles and things of that nature.
But when you could run the football, now it doesn't force Cam to be in a situation
where he needs to extend the play and throw the ball down field.
You see what I'm saying?
Now the playbook is way more expansive.
We talked about this on Sunday after the game, Tyler, when you weren't there.
But the point being, the Titans need to have more of a balance in their approach.
But when you're down 23 to 3 or whatever the score was when they needed to basically abandon the run game,
now the situation dictates who KAM needs to be, and that's the worst situation for him to have been in it.
especially early on with the new offense with again a different offensive coordinator and i'm
not trying to make an excuse but it's freaking reality and if your team in the first game of the
season isn't able to run the freaking ball and tony pollard has 30 yards and spears has that's
ridiculous that's that is setting up your quarterback for absolute disaster because i do feel like
cam was not good right cam was not good he had really bad moments he looked scared he
looked uncomfortable. He was bailing out. And I think that if there would have been some more
establishing of the run game, which couldn't have, it didn't happen because special teams created
catastrophe in the beginning of the game. This whole game was blown up from the start. And it set
up everybody for an even worse, like, not like being able to rebound at all. And then Cam was
put in those situations. So I'm not saying like every time Pam gets put in a pressure situation,
he's got to bail out and he's got to not be able to make the right read or whatever.
But they have got to establish a run game to help him out a little bit.
And I get they couldn't really do it because it was just a wonky game in that aspect.
But I do think it made Cam look a lot worse because he was them pressured to just be the guy that was throwing the ball or, you know, just bailing out.
And I got to say this, guys.
When we say Cam, Cam is a representative of the.
offense, okay? Because I want Cam when his back foot hits the ground to know where he's going
with the football, release it because the guy is open and the guy made a catch and continue to drop.
Taji Spears had a drop. That was crucial. You know what I'm saying? It's just there's situations
like that. Jim D.K., after the defense was on the field for so long, gets the ball right back to the
jets on a fumble in return. Those are bad situations that then compound themselves to just make
this whole thing ugly.
So at the end of the day, I go back to complimentary football because that makes everybody
look better.
Ken will take credit when we win.
Ken will take credit when we lose.
That's the plight of a quarterback.
Okay?
But at the end of the day, it's not just him and his performance, it's everybody.
It's blocking, tackling, catching, running, all those things.
And we just didn't do that with any sort of consistency to give ourselves a chance to win.
The Jets did, and that's why they won.
Yeah, whenever you have a quarterback, right,
Like, we've seen it.
In this league, you cannot get to where you want to go if that position isn't right.
And Brad, to your point, wanting him to make plays, because we've seen it,
you expect somebody who is the number one pick, and I know it's only his second year,
but you want them to elevate the team, right?
Like, and it feels almost like he's kind of caught in between taking what the defense gives him
and what they want him to be, but also what he naturally is.
which is a big play hunter, gunslinger, throwing it downfield, taking chances.
And I'm wondering if you guys could enlighten me if you feel like that's part of the reason
why he's seeing deer in the headlights, not trusting his pocket, throws her off the mark.
And it's leading to the offense kind of spiraling out of control here.
I think he's scared because he got hit so much last year and he made bad decisions last year.
And he's just like, I can't mess up. I can't mess up.
Oh, I can't take a sack.
I can't take a sack.
Oh, I can't have a turnover.
He's just going through all of the different things that he cannot do right now.
That he, it's hard.
It's probably hard for him to think about what he can do.
You know what I mean?
Like he's just so bogged down in all the things that he has to be better at
that he's, you know, he's too worried about all that to be even able to slide into.
Let's put it this way.
He's bogged down with so much paperwork at his desk during Clark Kent time
that he doesn't have time to go out and put on the Cape and be Superman.
He's got too much Clark Kent worked.
So I think that I think it's all mental for me.
It's just, he's just thinking about so much right now that he's just not confident,
and I don't get paid enough to have a good answer for that.
I simply don't.
And I don't have a good answer for how they, how they fix that.
Because the only way is for him to calm down and feel safe.
And I don't know that, and that ain't happening this week against Philly.
Yeah, big damn.
You know what, Tyler, you actually, you actually hit the nail on the head with one word that you said in there.
Kayla, what's that cologne that Dionne Sanders always wears?
Confidence.
He said, you smell that?
That's confidence, baby.
Because at the end of the day, confidence keeps you level.
Confidence keeps you at an evil key, even keel where you don't panic,
and you don't worry about what you're not being able to do.
See, confidence lends you to step into any sort of room
and know that you're the baddest MF are in there.
And you play like it.
You look like it.
And people feel that coming from you.
That's the aura that you present.
Right now, Cam was waning as far as the confidence.
Is he scared?
I think fear is a fear of messing up.
Is he scared to get hurt?
No.
Is he scared to getting hit?
No.
He's a tough dude.
You know, is he, but maybe this is the thing.
It's the fear of failure.
Because that has chased him his entire career.
From learning to play from a wingtie in high school,
to learning at Incarnate Word.
So from learning at Miami, you know, at the U, learning the position still, even in his first year of Brian Callahan, he's still in that learning trajectory.
And it's just hard to kind of get that footing to say, look, I'm top dog, man.
I'm the man, baby.
See what I'm saying?
At the end of the day, when you start smelling that from him, when you start feeling that confidence coming from him, then that's when he'll play like that, that less anxious guy that knows exactly what he's doing on the football field at all times.
The reason why I still, and people can call me stupid, I don't give a shit, honestly.
I've been called way worse things.
But the reason why I have Cam Ward and I'm still backing him is because I've seen what he's
gone through in his career.
And I've seen him overcome adversity.
And I've seen him have to pick up new offenses, learn new things.
This is though at a different level.
And I understand that.
But he still has not been given fair enough time when he just gets a new coach.
again this year and a new offense to learn. I'm sorry, you guys, that's impossible. That's like us
getting a new job every year and expecting us to excel right away. It takes us a couple of years
to get into the groove and feel comfortable where we can be ourselves, where we can maybe
make mistake and be like, you know what, that's okay because tomorrow I'm going to come out and
I'm not going to make that mistake again. So I guess like for me, I don't want everyone to just
give up on him yet because I do deserve or I think he deserves this year to show improvement
Now, the improvement needs to come faster than it did last year,
because I do think you have a more capable staff around you,
and more veteran staff around you.
But I do hope that people just give him a little bit more time
so that this offense can kind of grow together.
That's all I hope for.
And if you can't get it done this year,
then you can't get it done.
They're going to have to move on.
It is not fair to call Cam Ward a bust right now.
That's insane.
I agree 100%, Kayla,
that he deserves his time throughout this season.
It's 100% Cam Ward this season.
And if they need to bring in real veteran competition next all season,
that's the move.
It's not get rid of Cam Ward.
It's, hey, we're going to bring in a veteran,
do the Daniel Jones, do the Sam Darnold, do the Tyler Marie,
that the Vikings.
That's what the Titans are looking at next all season.
If Cam continues this level of play.
But I will just say this.
Tyler Shub, or Jackson Dart, has had three head coaches.
He had Brian Dable and then Mike Kafka the interim,
and now John Harbaugh the same.
He has been in two different systems.
The same as Cam Ward.
He has Malik neighbors off in ACL,
but it's not like the Giants have like this amazing team.
And Jackson Dart went out there and put it on the Cowboys for three touchdowns.
Tyler shook through for 400 yards.
You know what I mean?
Like a lot of these quarterbacks, Caleb Williams last year,
first year of Ben Johnson, they go 11 to 5.
Drake May, first year in a new offense,
brand new coaching staff.
second in MVP.
Like, yeah, Cam Ward deserves his time,
but there are other players out there with the same exact circumstances
who have performed far better than Cam.
So I can't let him off the hook entirely with a he deserves time.
Other quarterbacks have the same stuff and played way better than him.
So he deserves his time this year.
I'm not against that, but I can't let him off the hook
because it's a new scheme and new system entirely.
Like, it's week one, but those other guys look better anyway.
Yeah, and sadly those guys will be,
compared to each other, especially Jackson and
They should.
Sam's the number one pick.
He was the number one pick.
He should be way better than those guys.
And on the confidence piece, Tyler, that Brad was talking about,
if he is indeed the number one pick the Titans thought he would be.
And if he is indeed of the genetic makeup that we thought he is,
mentally, physically, he will get out on the other side.
Yeah.
On the other side of this break.
No, you have to think present time.
Think that thought.
if he is the player that we think he is
if he's going to be the player we think he is, not thought.
Thought means you gave up on him.
Thought means that you don't think that in him.
I love that, Brad.
I love that.
Good thing.
All right, on the other side of the break,
we have a hop take from Bhop.
That's next.
There are certain flavors that instantly feel like summer,
and for a lot of people, those classic red, white, and blue freezer pops
are right at the top of the list.
Sweet cherry, lime, blue raspberry.
It's one of those nostalgic summer flavors everybody recognizes.

Time for Bhoff's hop take.
Behop, take it away, my friend.
You notice the energy that we have
right now doing this show, trying to figure out
why the Titans played bad,
trying to look at all the things that happened
to the Titans this weekend, ultimately to the fan base.
It's way easier a show than doing it when you
went.
Now, I will say,
I don't want the Titans, obviously, to go out there
and get blown out against
the Philadelphia Eagles, but I
tell you what, we'll have just an exciting
emotionally packed show next week
as we did this week if that happens.
I'm not wishing that on them for any stretch.
But I do know that
Mr.
Love the company.
My other hot take is
this.
It's fundamental.
Meaning
it's about you
want to be a day
to do that.
This is when you can actually
know what you're doing.
Stay with the space.
and continue to just lay it on a guy time and time and time again.
That's physical.
I want this team to be physical like Robert Sala wants them to be.
It starts up front.
It starts to winning the trenches.
That's exactly how Robert Sala said this game was going to be won.
And he was right.
It just wasn't his team that did that.
And every single team that won this weekend did that.
They won the war up front.
And so at the end of the day, I want this team to be physical,
but I want them also to be fundamental.
Blocking and tackling.
That's where it starts.
winning the trenches.
Of course the offensive linemen of the group is going to say that.
It's important, man.
Yeah, it starts.
I have a schedule here, and I know Titans fans after losing that game on Sunday are like,
where are the wins going to come?
When is that first win going to come?
And so I'm going to put up the schedule again,
and I want each of you to say where you think the team gets this first win.
Tyler?
I mean, Cleveland.
Week 7 is when I think they get their first win.
And I'm going to say this.
If the Titans don't beat the Cleveland Browns,
they are going 0 and 17.
So they need to beat Cleveland in week 7
or they will not win a game all year.
Yeah, I'm also on that with it being Cleveland.
And I do think it could be really interesting, too,
and full storylines at that point.
Now, hopefully by that point, we've seen improvement from this offense as a whole, obviously the defensive side.
But offensively, we could be seen at this point two guys that were highly compared to each other in that draft a couple of years ago in Chador Sanders and Cam Ward.
Because Chador Sanders could very well be the starter at that point in Cleveland.
So that could make for a very interesting game.
And hopefully, like I said, Cam is going in the right direction because you,
don't want that to be the opposite of Cam going in the wrong direction when he goes and faces
Shador possibly in that game. Behoff? I think Cleveland's the obvious one because they're
struggling just like the Titans are at this point. But I'm going to say the next one. I'm going to say
this is another opportunity. Even though they started out 1-1-1, there are a lot of really good teams
this week that started out 1-1, and they'll get better. And I think that this is a week where, guess what,
They're going to be vastly underestimated.
They're going to be vastly underrated as far as possible getting the win.
And even though we're hosting this team this weekend,
not a snowball's chance in hell do people think that the Titans have to pull it off.
So this is just the best opportunity to catch the Eagles with their pants down
because I did see the Washington commanders getting after them.
As a matter of fact, the commanders, if they didn't get stopped on that two-point conversion,
they might have won in overtime.
So I'm saying the next one.
There you go.
Hey, look, if you're going to get the Eagles,
you're going to get them early, right?
Yeah.
You're going to get them early in the season.
And I think what we thought about the Eagles after that game
against the commanders is they win,
but they're kind of boring too.
You know, maybe you get them with their pants in.
But I would also say Cleveland.
Like, that seems to be the obvious answer, right?
Because out of all the 32 teams,
they're probably the one that,
in them, Miami, look on the same level
as the Titans as far as their performance this past Sunday.
So I probably go Cleveland there.
Julian
Kayla
so that we're not off the hook here
if you can't pick Cleveland
you cannot pick Cleveland
sure
what's their next win
I am going to say if I cannot pick Cleveland
I am going to go with
can you throw the schedule back up
Julie? Yeah I got you
since I can't pick Cleveland
I refuse to wait all the way
until like December
for the Titans to win I'm not going to do it
if they don't beat Cleveland
I think they'll win at Indianapolis.
It's a division game.
The Colts aren't that great anyway.
Let's go with Indianapolis and give them a division win.
Yeah, that was honestly the only one in this chunk of the first half,
which I do feel it's important to get one win before the buy.
At Indianapolis would make them more sense to me.
Now, it'd be nice if it was in Tennessee for that game,
but I don't think it's impossible to go up there and win.
Like you said, Tyler, at least from what I saw,
Leon from this indie team does not look good. And I'm not feeling as confident in Jacksonville
and facing Jacksonville right now because I know they have Jacksonville after the buy.
But right now I feel like Trevor's kind of gotten in a little bit of a group with his new head
coach leading pulling in his second year. Yeah, I'd probably say Indianapolis too. And that's only
because I know at least talking from guys like Jeffrey Simmons and Peter Skoronski the last
couple of years, they really want to win those divisional games. You know, they'll get a
up for those divisional games now it's been hard with the results i mean like they've only won one of
those in the past two years but i do think the cults are a big question mark this year we thought about
that going in like what are they going to look like are they going to look like the first half
cults last year are they going to look like the second half cults um as well and so uh yeah i'd probably
say indy the other one i if i wanted to be different here tyler for your question
how healthy will cincinnati be by first of
November. Like they haven't really given us a reason the last couple of years to think they are going
to be healthy and what that might look like. And yeah, I refuse to pick a game after the by week
just because I'm trying to speak something into existence where we talk about this team and there's
a little bit more interest there rather than now they're just going to lose everything before the
buy. And so I'd look at Indy and if not Indy Cincinnati just because of the history with the
Bengals and how banged up they've been over the last couple of seasons. So I've just say to Brad's point
how would we feel if we woke up on Monday morning after an Eagles win?
And like if we're at one-in-one, because let's be honest,
even the most optimistic of fans around us
didn't think the Titans were going to beat the Eagles.
We thought the Titans would be one-in-one after two weeks.
So how different would the vibes be,
how different would the fan-based be,
how different would the locker room feel when you're in there doing interviews,
Julian?
If the Titans beat the Eagles on Sunday and move to one-in-one,
I'm telling you, there would be fans saying Super Bowl is back on.
We're going to be the Patriots this year.
We beat the Eagles like, for every ounce of bad that we lost to the jets.
You know how it feels to say we lost through the jets?
You know what I mean?
For every ounce of bad that that is, the Eagles are every ounce of the opposite of,
we beat the Eagles.
You know what I mean?
So I will say this.
I am not betting on that.
I'm not picking the Titans to win the game.
but I will just say they can 100% save the entire season
if they beat Philadelphia.
And I remember 2018,
Corey Davis, overtime,
walk off touchdown against the Eagles who won the Super Bowl that year.
The Titans can beat the Eagles in Tennessee.
We've done it before.
Yeah, Kayla, you know this very well.
You and I have walked into the locker room
in way more losses than wins over the last couple of years.
And it was so exhausting to go in there
and hear Jeffrey Simmons say the same thing.
I'm tired of losing. I'm tired of losing.
And again, I will reiterate.
I am not like Tyler over here, my friend.
I am not a Titans fan, but I do think the job is more fun when they win.
And so a win over the Eagles, that locker room,
I imagine because I'm going to be at practice tomorrow what that locker room looks like,
it's probably going to be pretty serious.
I imagine that locker room is going to be completely night and day
if they beat the Eagles on Sunday, somehow, some more.
I think all, like, all this team needs, now they need to build on it, right?
But this team needs a boost to like freaking vitamin C, vitamin D,
glutify on, like, whatever you can get to get the body back and going in the mind.
Because I just think, you know, especially after losing to the Jets at home,
you know they hear the criticism.
They know they're feeling down.
Like, it's a player's job to get back up and go back on the field.
I understand, but they're freaking human beings.
And I know that because I talk to them every single, you know, Sunday before a game during the week.
And these guys feel it overtime.
And this team, especially the veterans who've been on the team, they're exhausted from losing.
They are.
Jeffrey Simmons is exhausted from talking about it.
You're right, Julian.
So to get like a little bit of a boost if they could win against the Eagles this weekend,
it could at least give them some confidence in themselves for some of these games moving forward,
even if you lose some of the games to play some good football or better football to keep it close.
Sure.
You know?
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Well, we will talk to the fans because the comment section is popping off here.
We're going to do that next in our final segment and round out the show here on the Titans Squad show.

Our first question comes from Kylie Wiley.
Does Mike Borgonzi survive if they win one or two games?
Yes. Stop.
Yeah. You have to. You have to.
You can't fire him right now.
No way.
Yeah. That's too much change in the front office.
And then you're kind of doing the same cycle.
New GM with a head coach he didn't pick and a quarterback he didn't pick.
It's kind of the same.
that guys. The last couple years, right?
Yeah, you can't keep doing that.
Thank you. Well, I will ask this.
If there is one or two wins,
and Kayla, you and I talked about this a little bit off air today.
And Tyler, I want you to chime in here too.
If there is one to two wins,
the consensus is you don't bring back the exact same crew.
Whether, you know, a lot of times people look at the GM,
the coaching staff, the quarterback.
If that's the case, what changes then?
The roster.
I mean, they can't.
We're all, you know, we're all preaching patience.
Amy Adam Strunk is tired of hearing about how she's this emotional woman
who's firing people all the time, which I've always pushed back against.
She should have fired Rand Carthon and should have fired Brian Callahan.
The problem was firing Mike Vrable.
That was the issue that we should go back to is, yeah, they probably should not have done that.
But getting Callahan and Carthon out of there, that was the right move.
That's why I was like pushing back on the, imagine if we had patience with Rand Carthon
and Brian Callahan.
Like what a disaster.
That would have been.
Thank God they didn't.
But like, I'm sorry,
Mike Borganzi is doing a better job than that.
Sala actually has experience in his past
and his Jets team got a lot better in year two
than they were in year one.
Unfortunately, and that's part of the problem,
there's just nothing that you can change.
There's nothing that you can responsibly change.
You just have to hope that it gets better in year two.
And then if it's not better next year,
then you fire Sala,
You draft a new quarterback.
You do all that.
We have a question from Scott McMillan.
Titans are getting blown out against the Eagles.
Do we see Mitch Trubisky at any point during the upcoming year?
I mean, unless Cam gets hurt,
and I don't wish that upon him.
I don't think you,
I just don't think it makes sense to do that
when you're trying to get Cam through this storm.
You know, it just wouldn't make any sense.
What's the outcome?
What's the outcome?
What's the,
upside of playing Mitch Trubisky. It's like Mason Rudolph two years ago. What's it going to do?
You're still going to lose games. You're not going to be building anything towards the future.
You're just running in mud if you're doing that. With Cam out there, even if Cam plays bad,
it's answers, it's information. It's stuff you can use going forward. Even camp,
camp playing bad is better than watching Mitch Trubisky play mid. Like there is no upside to it at all.
That's why I'm so annoyed with Cleveland right now.
I know this is another team.
But why would you not just sticks your door out there and see what you have?
It makes no sense.
Yep, insanity.
Yeah.
Seeds of shame.
That's a funny name.
That's good.
Eagles, Giants, Ravens, Texans, defenses.
Which one is worse than the Jets defense?
What happens at Owen 5?
Apparently the Texans, they gave up 31 points right now.
I don't, I don't, I actually, I would say the John.
I think the Jets defense may end up being better than the Giants.
But I don't think that's going to happen, and that's the only logical chance.
Yeah, that's probably also the most winnable game of those five, right?
The Giants?
Giants, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
He's going to be in the lab, in like the – he's going to be locking himself into the basement,
scheming up against them, you know, you run into your ex, you can kill how much better
you're doing.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, I wish Sala would have done that.
You got to make sure over there, too.
I think John Harbaugh's biggest challenge with the Giants, too, is you've got to keep your quarterback and your running back healthy.
Because those two men, while they're fun to watch, one knock and a out.
So they're insane.
They are.
I think Cam Scataboo headbutts things for fun, pretty much.
Cam Scataboo is the first player in NFL history to have CTE before he got into the NFL.
Like, that dude is nuts, man.
Yeah, that is something that coaching staff needs.
to um needs to look at stop the back lips scams cataboo yeah um let me see here oh yeah i wanted to get
your guys take on something before we go because we didn't really get to it in the tighten up and
tighten down segment so you know how in the preseason we were talking about how hey
the starters didn't look the best against the backups from some of these teams and we we said context
matters in that right and we were talking about hey vanilla offenses vanilla defenses they
They didn't want to show their cards.
They played a tough joint practice, almost an entire game pretty much two days prior.
So how much were the bodies impacted, right?
But to me, this team and this performance on Sunday got me questioning a lot of things in the sense that I know incremental improvement is the goal.
But from what I saw on Sunday, does it change your perspective of what you saw in those preseason games?
because is that context still matter for those preseason games or is this what the team has been for four weeks?
You know what I mean?
That's a good thing.
That's a good thought.
And I don't like to make much of preseason games in general, right?
I don't like to ever say, oh, that meant something or it didn't mean something.
But what I will say on that, Julian, is I expected to see some sort of a fight, even if they didn't win this game with the Jets.
I expected them to be right in it with the Jets.
And I've said this from the jump when we've teased this game.
I expected Sala's defense to show some sort of an identity of who, you know,
Sala has come in here and put his, you know, scheme into place and his whole like fast and physical.
And I was really just let down and disappointed because that is what we saw in the preseason,
opposite of fast and physical.
It just looked against second teamers.
It didn't look good.
So that's what made me.
he's so incredibly disappointed that we didn't see any resemblance of what
Salah's been talking about in this game either.
Well, and that's why I bring up the question, because Salas said this Sunday is,
the hope is that this is the floor for this team, right?
But it's looked like the floor.
It's looked like the basement for about a month now if you are taking those preseason
games seriously what you saw rather than all the context we were talking about
and maybe, I don't want to call it excuse-making,
but factors, you would say,
into why they performed the way they did in the preseason.
Who was here all along,
saying the pre-season is a concern.
This is not good.
They are not playing well.
I am worried.
And who got batted down like always?
Not you guys, but the comments section, the fans.
Oh, it's just pre-season, Tyler.
Why are you always so negative?
Why you feel it out?
Oh, the pre-season doesn't matter.
But it looks like the pre-season matter.
The preseason matter is the same football team
We saw on the preseason
Just like I said it was going to be
Because you don't just magically get good at football
Like it doesn't just
The process of the preseason
The process of training camp OTAs
People who say nothing matters
Everything matters
Every little possible thing matters
In life, in football, in whatever
Preseason was a warning
And now looking back
I've had people, Tyler, I guess you were right.
It should have been more concerned in the preseason.
And it's just like, not every team's preseason is something to be worried about.
But the Titan's circumstances made that preseason more important than it would be to a normal team.
And they blew it.
Yeah.
You know, and again, that's why I am, I don't like the it's only week one excuse.
Yeah.
And, you know, because how, you know, the saying the NFL goes week one is a liar,
but it's told the truth about the Titans
the last couple of years.
If it's one team,
it's not a liar about it's the Titans.
And if they played well like Kayla said,
like if they played a decent game
and just happened to lose to the Jets,
we could at least tell ourselves
oh, well, you know, if that's
the worst they're going to play this year,
they're going to play better, okay, maybe this team
will turn it around by the end.
But if that is the baseline,
and this was my argument about six wins
and why the Jets game was a must win,
There's no way they're going to win six games this year.
If they don't win the Jets game,
because the level that they are at right now after that game,
even if they improve, that's a four-win team, not a six-win team.
So it's like, yeah, they're going to improve.
But when you start at the very bottom,
improvement still isn't good enough.
Yeah, no.
I think, Tyler, to round out this show,
you had the funny tweet today saying,
can't wait for the Titans that opened the season this week,
starting one and O against the Eagles.
Yeah.
The season hasn't started yet, guys.
It must have been a different universe.
I felt like I was in a nightmare watching that game on Sunday.
I do have crazy dreams.
I had to be one of them.
No, central kickoff at Nissan Stadium.
And, of course, we'll be here for you guys every single step of the way.
For Julian Minneson, Kela Anderson, Tyler Rowland,
and, of course, Brad Hopkins, who's traveling back to Nashville.
We'll see you guys on Game Day.
