Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Will Levis NOT BEING TRADED as Tennessee Titans Give FRESH START, But Trade Still BEST OUTCOME
Episode Date: May 4, 2026The Tennessee Titans have moved on from Will Levis and the franchise is fully behind Cam Ward as the future at quarterback. That makes Levis expendable and most have expected a trade would materialize.... However, at this point in the offseason, it is less likely a deal will be made and the Titans would be wise to hold on to Levis and wait for a better market for his services. The coaching staff has also talked about giving Levis a fresh start, and while that sounds nice, the best outcome is still a trade for Levis to go somewhere else, because keeping three QBs on the roster just doesn't make a ton of sense. Looks like I might be wrong about Will Levis being traded, but it's still the best outcome for him and the Tennessee Titans.
I'll explain why on today's edition of Locked on Titans.
You are Locked on Titans, your daily Tennessee Titans podcast, part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day.
Welcome to the Locked on Titans podcast.
I am your host, Tyler Rowland Titans fans.

We need to talk about Will Levis and why it seems increasingly likely that he doesn't get traded any time soon.
But I still think it's the best outcome possible for both sides.
Before I tell you why I do want to thank you for making Locked on Titans,
your first listen each and every day Monday through Friday Tennessee Titans content all year round always for free
make sure that you get subscribed stay subscribed it's your team every day speaking of every day
shout up to my everydayers out there tuning in Monday through Friday couldn't do it without you guys if you
aren't an everyday or you need to be one but with that being said again I have said since the moment
that Cam Ward was drafted Will Levis is going to get traded
Will Levis is a goner.
There's no way they're going to keep Will Levis on this team.
Now, the injury last year to Will Levis,
where he decides to get surgery on his shoulder
and sit out the entire season,
that postponed the need for that decision to get made.
But then flash forward this year,
Will Levis is healthy, there's a new system,
but the reality still remains that the Titans gave up on Will Levis
and decided to go with Cam Ward as the future of the franchise.
and there is no way that Will Levis' long-term future is here in Tennessee.
So with that in mind, I was like, okay, I would still expect Will Levis to be traded.
Well, the draft passed.
And the draft was a, you know, a good opportunity for Will Levis maybe to get a fresh start.
No, I don't think that a team would give up a ton for Will Levis.
We're talking about a guy who had a very rough year the last time he got opportunities.
a guy who dropped to the second round
because a lot of people in the NFL
weren't high on him in the first place,
even though some people thought he had top five talent
and all that. Nope, ends up going second round.
So I'm thinking, you know,
Will Levis could go for, you know, a sixth round
at best, maybe a seventh round pick,
something like that in the draft. It wasn't a very good
quarterback draft class. Maybe some of these teams
had a guy like Nussmeyer or Aller and mind,
and when they don't get their chance at them,
they could go get Willis. Well, that didn't happen.
So now you have Will Levis on the team.
He's in the building.
He's at OTAs.
He's going to be at minicamp.
He's going to be in training camp.
He's going to be doing all that stuff.
He's not going to be the backup quarterback.
It's going to be Mitch Trubiske.
But it sounds like I could be wrong
and he could at least be around.
Because Brian Dable said this weekend at the Tennessee Titans rookie minicamp,
He talked about all the quarterbacks.
He said, Kim Ward's been very professional in his approach.
Mitch Trubisky has familiarity with the system
and guys can benefit from his stories of his ups and downs.
Former first rounder, you know, failed out, became a backup.
Will Levis has picked up the system quickly and gets a fresh start
is what Brian Dable said here,
and he said, Hendon Hooker looked good in his tryout,
good for Hendon Hooker.
But if Will Levis is truly getting a fresh start,
and Will Levis is picking up the system quickly and they like him and this and that,
well, then they're not going to trade them anytime soon.
And that means if Will Levis does get traded,
it's not going to happen until much closer to the actual regular season.
Now if Will Levis gets traded, we're looking at preseason.
We're looking at the buy week before the regular season actually kicks off.
We're looking at late in training camp at minimum.
if it happens at all.
You know what I mean?
So, like, as we get closer,
and if things like a quarterback injury
or a young player
not living up to the expectations
of their coaching staff,
you know, those are the sorts of things
that we'll be waiting on
for the Titans to take advantage
and be able to trade Willevis,
and I'll tell you this,
it's a lot easier to stomach a trade for Will Levis
if you're the team trading for him.
if you give up a 2027 late round draft pick
when the draft doesn't happen for eight months
then it is to give up a draft pick
that you want to use right now in April
on Will Levis.
So that could help the Titans.
But again, I mean,
as we go through these windows of opportunity
and the Titans don't trade Will Levis,
it becomes increasingly likely that I'll just be wrong.
And they're not going to trade well Levis.
But here's the thing that stands out to me.
If they don't trade Will Levis,
then what's the plan?
Because keeping three quarterbacks
doesn't sound like a good plan either.
I do want to let you know that today's episode is brought to you

Fans, let's continue today's bonus edition of the Locked on Titans podcast.
Again, we're talking about the Will Levis situation.
Looking at the quarterback group, honestly, as a whole right year,
but there's not much conversation to have with Cam Ward at this point.
He is the franchise quarterback.
We know that Mitch Trubesky is going to be the backup quarterback for the Titans.
Will Levis's situation, though, very uncertain.
very uneasy. We don't know what's going to happen there. And again, if I'm wrong,
and the Titans don't trade Will Levis, because they can't get a trade. It's not like they
don't want to. I think they would trade Levis in a snap if they could. But that doesn't mean
that someone is going to trade for Will Levis in a snap. You know what I'm saying? But here's
the thing. And this is why a trade is still the best outcome. Because are the Titans going to
keep three quarterbacks on the active roster, on the 53.
They're going to keep three quarterbacks,
and they're going to have Will Levis inactive every game day
and just waste a roster spot, waste in an active spot.
They're not going to have both of those guys, Levis and Trubisky,
active on game days.
So what's the plan?
In my mind, if they don't trade Will Levis,
well, at that point, you have to cut him.
You can't keep three quarterbacks on the roster
and just have one guy inactive every Sunday
and totally waste a roster spot.
You cannot do that.
That's not what teams in the NFL do right now.
Maybe they do.
Maybe they say, hey, he's too valuable.
We think we're going to get something in a trade eventually.
We don't want to do it.
We're going to hold on to him.
We're going to waste a roster spot
with the idea that maybe we'll get a sixth or a fifth
or something if, again, injuries, bad performance,
this and that.
But at some point, you know,
Will Levis
is going into
year four
it's going to be
the last year of his rookie contract
so
like at some point in time
holding on to him
in hopes to get a sixth
or a seventh round draft pick
just it's not
the juice isn't worth to squeeze
you know what I mean like at
at some point
you are hurting yourself
by hoping to get something back when you don't, you don't really need that.
You know what I mean?
Like, the roster spot is going to be more valuable to the Titans during the season
than the prospect of trading Will Levis.
He's on the last year of his contract, folks,
which, the reason I bring that up is he's going to be less enticing to NFL teams.
Because you need to get a look at Will Levis right now.
otherwise you're trading a draft pick just for him to go into free agents.
And the Titans would have to,
the Titans would have to eat, you know,
$2 million in dead cap
if they cut him.
But like again,
what's the other outcome?
If they don't trade him,
then they're going to cut him.
They're going to cut him.
You know, so it's like,
we could say, all right, Tyler, you're wrong.
they didn't trade Will Levis.
All right.
I'll admit,
I was wrong.
They didn't trade Will Levis.
But they're not going to keep Will Levis.
And if you're Will Levis,
you want to go to a new opportunity.
If you're the Titans,
you want to get something for Will Levis.
So if they don't trade him,
then they're just going to have to cut him
and then they get absolutely nothing
and he gets what he wants.
Maybe that's just, the Titans are just ready to move on.
They don't care about that. Sure, go ahead.
But yeah, all right.
I'll admit defeat if Will Levis isn't traded and say that I was wrong and he wasn't traded.
But again, he can't be on the team all year anyways.
That's not going to be the outcome either.
So it's like, yeah, I was wrong, but it's not like they're going to keep him on the team all year.
He's not going to make the 53-man roster in the final year of his deal to be the backup to Campbell.
That's not going to happen either.
So they're not going to keep three QBs.
If he doesn't get traded, he's not going to be on the team anyway,
and they're going to get absolutely nothing.
So I'm still going to hold out hope that a Will Levis trade happens.
Hopefully what Brian Daibble and Robert Salah are doing
when they talk about Will Levis is they're just trying to keep their powder dry,
RIP coach Mac.
Because they still want to trade and they don't want to make it obvious
that they're going to cut Will Levis.
And hey, why would I trade for him when I can just wait until you cut it?
Now, maybe a team wants to get ahead of that and doesn't want to be in a bidding ward.
wants to get Will Levis without having to fighting off all the other teams and all that.
But again, at the end of the day, Will Levis is not going to be on this roster.
So maybe I'm wrong and he doesn't get traded because he just doesn't have enough trade value,
but they're not going to keep three quarterbacks on the roster item.
So Will Levis isn't going to be on this team by the time we get to the regular season.
So if you want to say that I'm wrong about that, go ahead and say it.
but one way or another.
Doesn't matter.
So let's just hope that they do
get a trade at some point
because again, Cam Ward is your franchise quarterback
and Ms. Trubisky is your backup.
And that's what it's going to be.
So with that being said,
do you think that Will Levis get traded?
Also, later tonight,
we're going to look at what the Tennessee Titans' biggest needs
still remaining are as we come out of
rookie minicamp in the NFL draft.
But with that being said,
that's going to do it for me today, folks, as always.
I am your host, Tyler Rowland, and this was Locked on Titans.
